So, crazy theory I had a while back, but in Monster’s Inc. they claim, not only can touching a child kill you, but that any contact with their items and toys are lethal as well

Now obviously, we as an audience recognize this is meant to be a bonkers claim, and something the characters themselves discover to entirely false later in the movie

But, when and how exactly did this idea of children and their items being toxic even spawn from?? Clearly no one ever saw with their own eyes a monster die from being touched by a child and/or their items. So, the obvious assumption is that it was a lie (whether intentional or not) that spread enough paranoia to the Monster Inc. world for them to deem it as an indisputable truth.

Now, that leaves one last question, who told the monsters children and their toys were toxic??
