Sooga Island's Monster problem has only recently gone down to a reasonable level. Even 15 years ago it wasn't considered unusual for the village to have to be rebuilt twice a month.
Luckily, things have changed since then. Between new sources of food and the alliance with the local Goblins, Sooga Island is now a thriving community.

Chef John's Apple Dumplings
The secret to Chef John's rendition of traditional American apple dumplings is a straightforward, three-ingredient brown sugar sauce.
Recipe for Chef John's Chicken and Dumplings
A delicious fluffy biscuit tops a light and flavorful homemade chicken soup to create a classic American comfort food. 3 sprigs fresh thyme, salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste, 1/2 cup milk, 1 onion chopped, 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper or more to taste, 4 sprigs thyme for garnish, 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour or as needed, 2 teaspoons chopped fresh thyme leaves, 2.5 quarts cold water, 2 eggs, 1/2 cup creme fraiche, 1 whole chicken, 1 bay leaf, 2 cups self-rising flour, 1 stalk celery chopped, 1 large carrot cubed
My sister-in-law wanted to try Ms. Chi Café because she’s a Top Chef fan (the owner is Chef Shirley Chung). The menu even features the cheeseburger potstickers Chef Chung made for one Top Chef challenge. The café serves Northern Chinese and elevated Chinese American food – noodles, dumplings, fried rice, etc. The drink menu includes boba tea, slushies, wine, espresso drinks, tea, beer, and cocktails. For dessert, they have mochi donuts (regular and vegan). There are weekday lunch specials. On weekends, there’s a brunch menu.
Vegan mapo tofu ($18): silken tofu cubes, roasted mushrooms, spicy Sichuan peppercorn, chili sauce. This was inedible even when eaten with steamed rice because it was SUPER salty. Ugh. One star.
Steamed jasmine rice ($3): seemed dry. Even the rice wasn’t good.
Sauteed yu choy hearts ($11): Chinese greens with whole roasted garlic cloves. Mr. Froyo asked for no garlic but it still came with garlic. Plus the whole garlic cloves were barely roasted. There wasn’t much garlic flavor because of the way they cooked the garlic whole. Mr. Froyo said the veggies were swimming in way too much sauce.
The jumbo cheeseburger potstickers and chow mein looked greasy.
Service was friendly but the food seemed to take a long time to come out even though they weren’t busy. They brought it all out at once, so maybe that’s why.
The interior is cute – white and pink walls with velveteen chairs, a tiled bar area, and merch for sale. You can get a t-shirt or dumpling apron. There’s an outdoor patio. Parking is difficult.
