End of the Year Reading Tag
Thank you so much for tagging me @senadimell ❤️❤️ this was fun!
1) Did you reach your reading goal for this year (if you had one)?
My reading goal was to get back to reading for pleasure as opposed to for research. I used to be able to devour novels within weeks as a teenager and well into my early 20s. My priorities shifted and i clearly got burnt out (i really felt what you meant when you talked about your own reading habits xD @senadimell ), and I only had attention span and investment for fanfiction anymore. Most of my recent reading had to do with researching an event, cultures, politics and almost always had to do with work of some sort.
I rediscovered reading for pleasure last year and I am thankful for it.
2) What are your Top 3 books this year?
Well, given that I have only finished a few books last year, it's not all that much. So Six of Crows duology? It's been a while since I got invested in characters and cared about them.
3) What's a book that you didn't expect to enjoy quite as much going in?
Persuasion. Both Austen's tendencies for run off sentences (especially daunting when reading online as a "recently rediscovering reading for pleasure" person) and a quiet, resilient protagonist was something I didn't think I would enjoy as much I did. I really adore Anne, and I didn't expect to. With Austen, I tend to be drawn towards protagonists like Lizzy or Emma and Anne was very different, but also very refreshing.
4) Were there any books that didn't live up to your expectations?
Errr. I heard a lot about Naomi Wolf's The Beauty Myth. Unfortunately for myself, I had gotten her book Vagina: A New Biography. I was expecting to learn some cultural histories, how much patriarchy informs it but it eventually devolved into embracing your inner goddess (with a dash of "here is how it is in the mystical land of eastern cultures" 🙄 and my favourite aggressive question she posed to heterosexual man via her book: "do you want to be married to a Goddess or a bitch?"), which I side-eye very heavily.
5) Did you reread any old faves? If so, which one was your favorite?
As followers from my blog know, Harry Potter became a coping mechanism in the pandemic. My favourite reading experience would be Prisoner of Azkaban. The development of Harry's journey there is so tight and contained - and also very satisfying.
6) Did you DNF (=did not finish) any books?
Plenty. 😅 It's all because of attention span because I do intend to go back and read it:
- Sweating Saris: Indian Dance as Transnational Labor by Priya Srinivasan
- Upside Down: A Primer for Looking Glass World by Eduardo Galeano
- Blank on Map by Eric Shipton / Nanda Devi also by him (i especially love his writing style, so I really want to get back to these!)
7) Did you read any books outside of your usual preferred genre(s)?
No :( possibly this year!
8) What was your predominant format this year?
PDFs! Six of Crows was bought after I finished reading it online!
9) What's the longest book you read this year?
Possibly the Six of Crows duology still? The Vagina would have been the longest, but i couldn't finish it.
10) What are your top 3 anticipated 2022 releases?
I actually haven't been following any releases. I remember checking out Christina Lauren after a recommendation to read a romance (it's been a while and I am actually really bored of this genre - to the point I want to rant about what I dislike) - they have a book with a summary that looks interesting coming out this year. It's about a girl who is an outdoor guide? I might check that one out.
11) What books from your TBR did you not get to this year, but are excited to read in 2022?
I look forward to returning to books I didn't finish - especially Eric Shipton! And also looking forward to Half of Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Adichie.
Tagging @thedreamermusing @thecat-isblogging-blog @dragonlordette @hinnyfied @mrs-stubby-boardman @floreatcastellumposts @somesunlitdays @yletylyf and anyone who wants to do this!

BOOKS OF THE YEAR 2020 PART 2
Wanted to post this just to complete my end of year posts.
I don’t tend to read that many novels but I did read some really good ones this year - Queenie (debut novel by Candice Carty-Williams about a young black girl living in London), Black Wave (by Michelle Tea - a queer woman leaves behind her drug addicted past in San Francisco to escape to Los Angeles only for the announcement that the world is due to end), Mirror, Mirror (by Paula Byrne - a story based on the life on Marlene Dietrich partly narrated by her mirror), Oligarchy (by Scarlett Thomas - a Russian girl ends up at an English boarding school that’s dominated by a sinister devotion to extreme dieting), and Wonderland (by Juno Dawson - about a young trans girl at a posh boarding school who’s trying to track down her friend who’s gone missing + ends up at a secret houseparty - loved this esp all the nods to Alice In Wonderland).
Probably my favourite of all was Boy Parts by Eliza Clark which is about a young female artist who’s moved back to Newcastle + spends her time taking explicit photos of young men she scouts on the streets. One reviewer described it as like American Psycho meets Fleabag which is a good way of summing up its deranged genius.
Read a couple of books by Hallie Rubenhold - The Five (about the women murdered by Jack The Ripper) and The Covent Garden Ladies (about Harris’ List of the late 1700s + the female sex workers who appeared on it + the times they lived in). Also read Mad + Bad. Real Heroines of the Regency by Bea Koch which seeks to redress the balance the bit for the women of the Regency period by showing that there were women involved in the sciences + that not all women of the period were only concerned with their ballgowns + who to marry.
Also read a few good books on drag - Serving Face by Felix Le Freak (which is a collection of profiles/interviews w/various drag performers), Drag. The Complete Story by Simon Doonan (which is an overview of different types of drag such as comedy or fashion and how they’ve evolved over the years), and Legendary Children by tom Fitzgerald + Lorenzo Marquez (which takes RPDR as a starting point to examine different facets of LGBT culture including profiles of various people over the years).
Read Fangirls by Hannah Ewens which discussed different aspects of fandom by highlighting the experience of different groups of female fans around the world and She Found It at the Movies edited by Christina Newland which was a collection of essays by various female authors discussing how films had influenced + inspired their desires. Style Tribes by Caroline Young was a great look at various subcultures + I especially appreciated it looking outside Europe/North America which some books like this have a tendency not to do.
I read a couple of good mental health related books. Charlotte Amelia Poe’s memoir, How to Be Autistic (I particularly liked the fandom references in it). The More or Less Definitive Guide to Self Care by Anna Borges (which is an A to Z of all different suggestions for self care + includes different people talking about what works for them). It’s Not OK to Feel Blue and Other Lies edited by Scarlett Curtis (which is an anthology of writing by various celebrities covering all aspects of mental health).
One of my favourite books of the year was Girl, Stop Passing Out in Your Makeup by Zara Barrie which is a cross between her memoir + a self help guide and is v. funny + so cool + includes chapter heading such as An Ode to the Girls Who Grew Up Too Fast, Praying to Lana Del Rey, and PSA: Bottomless Mimosas Are Taking You Down.
I was also delighted to see Anita Pallenberg finally get a biography of her own (She’s a Rainbow by Simon Wells) which sought to explore the life of a complex and creative woman who too often has been reduced to just ‘girlfriend of the Rolling Stones.’

Date of Birth: April 13th, 1987.
Age: 33.
Hometown: Seattle, Washington.
Length of time in Crescent Harbor: 33 years.
Neighborhood: Bywater Park.
Occupation: Social Media Manager.
Faceclaim: Satomi Ishihara.
BIOGRAPHY (trigger warnings: implied drug abuse, implied alcoholism, overdose, foster care)
“The world goes on, stupid and brutal, but I do not. Can't you see? I do not.” —Jennifer Donnelly
The Winter family have always been the exact opposite of the image their name would invoke, a family that instead of being frosty and detached, were a warm and loving bunch with as many troubling trials and mishaps as any family next door. ‘There is no such thing as perfection’ Mrs. Winter would remind her children, a mixed bunch of adopted and foster kids that belonged as much as her biological children did. ‘But what matters is that you try.’ Mr. Winter would finish. And though such words of encouragement were only meant to help and not hinder, Lara Christina would not be first nor last to realise that their name isn’t inspired by the literal cold, but the ceaseless strength of such a season that endured, even in the most silent, most dread-filled moments.
Lara was one of the middle children of the Winter brood, identifiable by the blonde hair almost always set in braids with her cornflower blue eyes perpetually set to the distance. With a penchant for adventure it was she who would be the last child inside for dinner with dirt on her hands and knees and leaves in her pocket, she who by the time she was fourteen would steal weekends to stay with friends or adventuring into the city, even taking up hiking eventually when she convinced her elder siblings that she could keep up with them.
Her parents used to say that her restlessness would lead her right out of Crescent Harbor one day, and by the time she was sixteen she had dreams of walking through the halls of Versailles, of backpacking through Italy, and taking a photo outside of Buckingham Palace (and maybe even meeting Prince Harry), maps and brochures taped to her side of the bedroom she shared with her siblings. There was no question about it: their adventurer was made for a world beyond Crescent Harbor, and she had every intention of making her dreams come true.
However, those same dreams had not included a child by her high school sweetheart at a young age. They’d talked about it of course (it, being what they wanted to do in the future), getting out of town and being able to travel as they grew older, maybe even applying to a university out of the state and studying for a semester out of the country. But Lara had fallen pregnant over New Years break her junior year, and early into her senior year of high school, they’d welcomed their little Mason Hawthorne into the world.
It should be known that they’d both tried to do the right things. Not only for themselves, but for their infant son. Without either of their parents’ support, they moved in together, trying to balance raising their son between Quinn dropping out taking on multiple jobs to keep them afloat and Lara working part time and staying in school. There was nothing easy about it. Lara can’t remember how many times she’d cried, still nearly a child herself as she tried to settle their son down for the night so she could trudge her way through a calculus assignment and Quinn could rest. But what mattered at the end of the day was that they made it through each day, and that every day they tried even more to give as good as they could. As her parents had instilled in her, it wasn’t that they had a perfect life. But that they put in the effort.
What she didn’t expect was how difficult it all could become; how being a young adult, a young mother would test her mettle. They weren’t perfect, but they were happy. Or, at least, she tried to convince themselves they were until the fighting had become too much and seemingly out of nowhere, she stopped trying temporarily. Lara had left with their son on her hip and returned home. Their adventurer, their dreamer returned to her safe place to land with her head down and tears in her eyes. Her dreams, hers and Quinn’s promises had not only frayed at the edges, but finally cracked like a mirror. Reflected in her gaze were those ideas shattered. So she’d begin again, under the safety of her parents’ roof, with the help of her siblings as she slowly picked herself up: she enrolled in a local college, worked full time — and in a way that only a Winter could, Lara tried, again and again with Quinn.
Perhaps a better girlfriend would have stuck it out; a better partner would have been able to support him better for his sake and hers and Mason’s. In a way, she will never forgive herself for not being able to do so; as regrettably with each relapse, after every promise that he was clean and stable and better for them and their son was broken, that same shattered yet enduring love wore away with the sea that lapped at Crescent Harbor’s shores. His overdose at the age of twenty-six, a scene she (much to her horror) had discovered with their son, was the last straw. After being raised to not stop trying, to endure and persevere, to not prize perfection but the effort put forward, Lara stopped entirely.
Instead of attempting again to try and raise their son together as a family, to heal what was so obviously fractured between the both of them, Lara Christina Winter stepped away, for once embodying the unforgiving, frosty invocation of her surname. She looked critically at her jobs and career trajectory, dedicated herself to her son: her dreams would no longer be based on a family of three, but two; the trips and little escapes from the monotony of life would be for her and Mason to enjoy. She’d give their son the stability a child would need, a soft place to land if he fell, and after failing Quinn, the promise on her own life that she would never stop trying for him.
In the next handful of years, it would be she and Mason on a trip to Disneyland and Universal Studios, to Hawaii, and after landing a new job three years ago as a social media manager for an eSports organisation based in Seattle, she’s finally been able to afford the both of them a short trip to France and Italy, and has flown with Mason to trips across the United States to attend the professional league tournaments of the video games he loves.
Although she’s finally had the adventures she’s dreamed of by the age of thirty-three (and lived many more that she could have never imagined) it’s only through her new occupation that she’s had an inkling how much she has to regain. Between her career, Mason, and still lukewarm-at-best relationship with Quinn since his last overdose, it’s been seven years of hard work without letting anyone into her life to access those same vulnerabilities and dreams that Lara had for herself. Mason is sixteen now, and the ‘what if's' of a bigger family, of having a partner or another child have popped into her mind thanks to the younger demographic of her workplace. She’s been reminded time and time again (and the reminders have now begun to come from Mason, too) that she’s still young, and still has the world of opportunities to enjoy. She has to remember she’s more than a mother and co-worker— Lara has to try for herself, too.
PERSONALITY
+ creative, self-sufficient, dedicated.
- protective, escapist, repressed.

//A big hello to everyone and thank you for coming to this blog. This blog is for my original character Christina Mallory Malfoy from the Harry Potter universe. I have included a small background biography here for your reference. As you may have noticed, my face claim for Christina is Amanda Seyfried, gorgeous girl that she is.
Christina is the sister of Abraxsus Malfoy and was previously romantically connected to Tom Riddle when he was a young man. They were married at one point, Tom taking advantage of her love to cement his place in pureblood society. The match only lasted for a short period of time before they split, Tom attempting to dispose of Christina as she was becoming more of a hindrance than anything else. Christina escaped with her life and lived abroad in a cottage in the Black Forest. She maintained good contact with her nephew Lucius and focused on developing and studying the ancient earth based magick of the world.
I hope you enjoy the blog and I look forward to interacting with all of you.

Do I Have That Book Challenge
Tagged by @flamingmirrorbookish. Because it looked like fun and I really wanted to do it!
Do you have a book with deckled edges? The Wrath and the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh
Do you have a book with 3 or more people on the cover? The Love Interest by Cale Dietrich, Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly

Do you have a book with a title that starts and ends with the same letter? Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, Soul Mates - Flüstern des Lichts by Bianca Iosivoni
Do you have a Mass Market Paperback book? Plenty! Pretty much anything written by Jeaniene Frost (The Night Huntress series and all the spin-offs) And the Supernatural tie-ins.
Do you have a book written by an author using a pen name? I... actually have no idea... It’s likely that I do but I don’t keep up with that stuff so if I do I’m not aware.
Do you have a book with a character’s name in the title? Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie, The Gospel of Loki by Joanne M. Harris, Rheanne - An Bord der Adlerschwinge by Anne Troja
Do you have a book with 2 maps in it? A Game of Thrones by G.R.R. Martin (well more than just two but whatever)
Do you have a book that was turned into a TV show? 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher
Do you have a book written by someone who is originally famous for something else? ?(celebrity/athlete/politician/tv personality…) You’re never weird on the internet (almost) by Felicia Day and Revenge of the Nerd by Curtis Armstrong. (They are biographies/memoires. Am I cheating?)

Do you have a poetry book? William Shakespeare’s Complete Works do count, don’t they? His Sonnets are included.

Do you have a book written by an author with the same initials as you? Caraval by Stephanie Garber, The Smoke Thieves by Sally Green
Do you have a book of short stories? Because you love to hate me edited by Amerii, All Out - The no-longer secret stories of queer teens throughout the ages edited by Saundra Mitchell

Do you have a graphic novel? Uuh, I still haven’t fully gotten the difference between ‘Graphic Novels’ and ‘Comic books’. I own a shit-ton of the latter (Mostly but not exclusively Manga). I guess Twilight part 1+2 and New Moon part 1 adapted by Young Kim is a safe bet? As for a comic book example, The Complete Elfquest Vol. 1-5 by Richard and Wendy Pini.
Do you have a book written by 2 or more authors? What if it’s us by Becky Abertalli and Adam Silvera

A thoughtful dialog in response to the article I linked to here. A few excerpts (but the whole thing is worth reading in full):
Harris: Absolutely. Yes, and I do think there is this tendency among a certain set of progressives to feel that about LGBT issues, certainly about gay and lesbian issues. To feel like: “We solved that, and everybody’s equal now,” so we don’t have to factor in [sexual orientation] when we talk about candidates. I certainly don’t know any actual gay people who feel that way, so it can be a little jarring to hear this historic nature of a gay candidacy and have a gay candidate dismissed by other progressives.
... I think this was where I got my back up a little bit about the insistence on comparing Buttigieg and Warren, because Pete Buttigieg is a gay, Midwestern, veteran mayor of a city. That’s not Elizabeth Warren’s background, and all of that is part of who he is. The fact is, people don’t vote just by closing their eyes, getting the pictures of who the candidates are out of their heads and saying, “OK, but what are their positions?” It’s about this weird intersection of positions and biography and demeanor and experience and age. And with a lot of those X factor issues, probably most of all the issue of “relatability,” there’s a huge amount to interrogate about the difference between the way men and women are treated. That’s where I think the criticism is legitimate. I just think it was interesting and, to me, somewhat disturbing that this wasn’t a discussion of Warren versus Inslee, or Warren versus Hickenlooper, or Warren versus Biden. It was about the one gay candidate in the race, and it felt like he was not necessarily the right place to aim one’s wrath about this particular issue, I guess.
Cauterucci: I was trying to think about, what do we value in a candidate who comes from a background that’s underrepresented? And how does that identity, if they want to identify with that aspect of their identity, affect their perspective? How have Pete Buttigieg’s identities informed his perspective? Recently, talking about Chick-fil-A, he said that the boycott of Chick-fil-A is a lot of virtue signaling, or maybe it’s a worthy cause, but there’s a lot of virtue signaling involved there among progressives. To me, that says he’s actively trying to play down the way his gay identity might be affecting his politics, because an economic boycott is the opposite of virtue signaling. It’s trying to prevent money from being funneled into the hands of people who would want to continue to subjugate queer people.
Harris: ...I remember the “Obama isn’t black enough” pushback in his first campaign, and it seems to me absolutely inevitable that the first really viable gay candidate is going to be mild, moderate, almost aggressively reasonable about gay issues.
Cauterucci: Reasonable for straight people, not reasonable for gay people.

after almost twenty four hours after the submit has closed and 11+ hours of reading applications and making painstaking decisions, the long-awaited acceptance post has come. i’d sincerely thank every single applicant for applying because i really don’t lie when i say that i read through every single app and had to make some very tough decisions, some that hurt my heart because almost every app came neck and neck with each other. this entire experience has been surreal -- i never expected for my plot idea to take off so incredibly and for such kind words to be said about it. i definitely did not anticipate 43 apps to end up in my inbox and to have such dedicated and patient applicants. thank you so much to everyone who’s been a part of this experience already, i really, really can’t say it enough or articulate it well.
to people who are not accepted -- i really mean it when i say that i wish i could accept everyone. every single app went beyond my expectations, and if you weren’t accepted it is NOT a testament to your writing abilities or anything personal. having to pick ONE person out of so many apps, or ELEVEN out of FORTY-THREE ?? it’s nearly impossible. it breaks my heart to not be able to accept THIRTY-TWO apps that were so beautiful. i strongly encourage people who weren’t accepted to keep an eye on this rp in case any openings or expansions occur in the future, because i’d really love to have people reapply. i wish i could type with the conviction and passion that i’m feeling right now when i say that every app blew me out of the water, but now i’m repeating myself over and over again. ( if anyone would like feedback on their app or for me to send their app back to them, please let me know over the course of this week. )
with that said, under the cut are the eleven accepted applicants. please send in your accounts within TWENTY-FOUR HOURS and be sure to check out the CHECKLIST as well as the inbox of your character blog once you send in your account so i can send invites to the ooc discord chat !!
CONGRATULATIONS LAURA ! YOU HAVE BEEN GRANTED ACCESS TO THE FILE OF AGENT AURUM, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS MALCOLM WEBB ( REECE KING ).
holy crap, laura !! your writing is amazing !! you really made malcolm come alive, with everything from your edits to your stunning biography and description of his personality. my heart really hurt for malcolm while i was reading about his background and you really provided so much depth behind the surface-level rich kid. you displayed his vulnerabilities and desires incredibly well. also, i love how you even added depth to the way his skills ?? thank you so, so much for applying, love, and welcome !!
CONGRATULATIONS EMILY ! YOU HAVE BEEN GRANTED ACCESS TO THE FILE OF AGENT CRIMSON, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS RAFAEL BOLÍVAR ( TYLER POSEY ).
emily -- can we talk about the way you write for a sec ?? it’s absolutely phenomenal. you took a darker twist to crimson than i could have imagined and i loved every second of it. your backstory for him is incredibly unique to me and i’m so excited to work with his narrative throughout the rp !! beyond that, you really know your character well !! i was blown away by your para samples -- the way you wrote his connection with nikolai and also that drabble about him and tony ?? you have such a knack in your writing to be able to sympathize with your muses, like oh my god. i’m so glad you applied and i can’t wait to see how you develop rafe !!
CONGRATULATIONS CHRISTINA ! YOU HAVE BEEN GRANTED ACCESS TO THE FILE OF AGENT CYGNUS, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS RHYSAND ATTWOOD ( HARRY STYLES ).
you truly went above and beyond, christina, and i am honestly so glad you came out of retirement from the rpc to apply !! the cygnus competition was so, so tough, but i kept coming back to your application. not only is your writing incredible, every facet of your application was so detailed it was clear that you had an understanding of rhys !! the thing that completely sold me was that you wrote about every connection rhys would have and how rhys would act and that was so great to see !! i also loved your twist on rhys & odessa’s connection ?? i also love his potential development and the way you tied his story into the plot !! i can’t wait to write with you, love, welcome to operative !!
CONGRATULATIONS TERESA ! YOU HAVE BEEN GRANTED ACCESS TO THE FILE OF AGENT HAWTHORN, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS CALLIOPE MAXWELL ( CARTIA MALLAN ).
my goodness, i absolutely loved your app, teresa !! it was so unique and i loved how you showed how much depth callie had and the development that she has gone through and will continue to go through. i just loved the twist on her backstory and how she didn’t start off too kind ?? you made the skeleton of hawthorn three-dimensional and complex !! also, your ideas for her goal and how to extend it into a plot in the future was so creative and intriguing, i can’t wait to explore it more with you, love !! also, the liberties you took with your para sample absolutely paid off !! i loved seeing callie’s perspective on the provided connections. welcome, teresa !!
CONGRATULATIONS JULIE ! YOU HAVE BEEN GRANTED ACCESS TO THE FILE OF AGENT HYALUS, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS DANAË BAUTISTA ( CLEO LAZULI ).
hyalus was another tough decision, but julie, i absolutely loved your take on hyalus. not only did the memes and vines make me laugh out loud, but you gave such a fresh perspective on our resident hacker. just the aspects ( and perhaps irony ) of her father’s condition made me incredibly sad, but it provided a ton of depth to danaë ?? and i loved the fact that you gave her the label ‘ the icarus ’, the way you explained it made me love danaë even more !! also, your research for the role literally had me with my mouth open while i was going through your app ?? and the fact that you included a family tree / timeline ?? your dedication is unreal. thank you so much for applying and i can’t wait to see danaë on the dash !!
CONGRATULATIONS RHINE ! YOU HAVE BEEN GRANTED ACCESS TO THE FILE OF AGENT MERCURY, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS LYSANDER SEO ( LEE JONG SUK ).
the competition for mercury was probably one of the toughest -- every single app i read for that role was filled with so much effort and talent, that i kept going back and forth between so many. but rhine -- i strongly believe that you have an ability to paint with words. as i kept reading, i was just swept away by your writing ability ?? every single sentence was like a masterpiece !! and the way you wrote lys and his backstory was something i’ve never really seen before, and the amount of research you put into it was amazing !! while i was reading it all, i was internally screaming out of astonishment for your writing and sorrow for lys. he has so much depth and you understand him so well !! i cannot wait to see you play lysander on the dash and in events !!
CONGRATULATIONS EL ! YOU HAVE BEEN GRANTED ACCESS TO THE FILE OF AGENT NOX, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS KINGSLEY LIM ( BANG YONGGUK ).
el, el, el !! your writing is insanely beautiful and by the end of your app, i felt like i understood king extremely well. his backstory had me crying and i loved the way you made nikolai a tether for king. also that pinterest ?? organized from head to toe had me already screaming, but then your explanation for each color and what it meant... it had me on the floor, quite honestly. your understanding of king and the very dark take on nox’s skeleton was stunning to read !! and those last two lines of his bio ?? had me weeping. in any case, i can’t wait to see kingsley develop here and welcome to the rp !!
CONGRATULATIONS GUBSE ! YOU HAVE BEEN GRANTED ACCESS TO THE FILE OF AGENT OPHIDIAN, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS OLIVER KNIGHTLEY ( XAVIER SERRANO ).
goodness, the depth you gave ophidian was astounding  -- the anger, the loneliness, the flirtations  -- it was all wrapped up into oliver so perfectly ?? and then your development questions... the way you answered them ?? your writing is absolutely amazing !! it's a different vision i had for ophidian, but that’s in no means a bad thing. it's exactly why i loved it so, so much. just the line " he looks in the mirror. ' what are you capable of ? '" gave me shivers. i absolutely cannot wait to see how you play oliver on the dash. congratulations and welcome to operative !!
CONGRATULATIONS MINNIE ! YOU HAVE BEEN GRANTED ACCESS TO THE FILE OF AGENT PHANTOM, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS JIYOON ARIELLA HAN ( PARK SOOYOUNG ).
everything from the biography, to the stats, to the connections, to your character’s goal... all i can say is wow !! i also absolutely loved the pinterest boards that went along with the biography !! every twist and turn that your writing took me on had me love every minute. it was a different take than i expected for phantom, but you captured the skeleton’s essence and really made it your own !! the explanation of her personality just confirmed that you were the one for phantom !! your writing is spectacular and i truly can’t wait to write with ariella !!
CONGRATULATIONS HONEY ! YOU HAVE BEEN GRANTED ACCESS TO THE FILE OF AGENT PHOENIX, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS FRANCIS KANG ( JEON JUNGKOOK ).
holy shit, honey. i was weeping for francis and i really loved your take on phoenix’s connection and the depth you put behind him. i loved how much of a facade he put up & your depiction of him and odessa !! besides all that, your writing is gorgeous !! your in-character paragraph for phoenix really sold it for me !! you really have a good grasp on francis, and your creativity with his background / personality has me so excited to see where he goes and how he’ll develop !! thank you so much for applying and welcome !!
CONGRATULATIONS CLEO ! YOU HAVE BEEN GRANTED ACCESS TO THE FILE OF AGENT SCORPIUS, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS ANGELINA DELAROSA ( CINDY KIMBERLY ).
the scorpius decision was probably the toughest of the whole acceptance process -- each app was absolutely amazing and i was struggling to pick just one. but i kept coming back to yours. your writing is almost poetic, and the way you wrote angelina was something that really pulled at my heart. the fact that you gave so much depth to the scorpius skeleton, beyond just a seductress, really gave it to me !! also, your paragraph samples, your explanation on her personality ?? my goodness, i could really tell that you understood angelina, from the way you wrote her goal, to her despair following nikolai, to the way you even wrote a drabble about her first mission... and the way you described those aesthetics as well !! your app had me absolutely floored !! you’re such a talented writer, and i can’t wait to see where you go with angelina !! welcome to the roleplay, love !!

A little about me (Something I was tagged in)
What made you first start writing? Do remember anything specific that made you start or have you always “just wanted to?” I don’t remember why I started writing. I remember doing a writing contest in first grade that I won for my school and placed in my school district. That’s is probably when I started and I kind of got hooked on making up stories from there.
What was your favorite childhood book? Being the avid reader that I was I loved Amelia Bedelia books, Nancy Drew, The Wayside School books, and even biographies. I was a total nerd from a very young age.
Have you read a book or story that you would say stuck with you “the most” either as a reader or as a writer? Harry Potter. I was about 9 or 10 when they came out and I started reading them. I was instantly transported to Hogwarts. I wanted to be at Hogwarts so bad I couldn’t stand it. Then all the drama about it being evil because of magic got going with members of my own family and I was quick to defend the books. Don’t judge something you’ve never read. I found the overall story inspiring and wanted to create something on that level just how JK Rowling did. She’s seriously a major inspiration of mine.
Music! Do you use it at any point in your writing process? Always! I can’t do anything in silence. I need music to function. I have quite a bit of playlists but most of what I listen to are different types of rock music, primarily symphonic and gothic rock/metal bands. My main playlist has bands like Nightwish, Delain, Epica, Lacuna Coil, Kamelot, Amaranthe, Depeche Mode, Evanescence, Within Temptation, ReVamp, After Forever, Leaves’ Eyes, HIM, Tarja, The Birthday Massacre, Xandria, Tarja, and many more. Occasionally I’m listening to more Pop music like Taylor Swift, Maroon 5, Demi Lovato, Kelly Clarkson, etc. I do randomly get in moods to listen to my favorite stuff from my teenage years like Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, N SYNC, Christina Aguilera, Spice Girls, etc. I also have my classic rock, 80′s pop and rock, 90s music, and 90s country moods too. It all depends on my mood and what I’m working on to be honest. I just really love music.
How do you feel about fairy tales? Love them, hate them, read them all the time, think they’re childish or is it something else? I love fairy tales. I still read them. I find them fascinating. While the older I get the more of a realist I can be, deep down I’m still the hopeless romantic that believes in fairy tales.
What kind/sphere of knowledge tends to influence your writing the most? (i.e. if you know a ton about music, does that show up in your work? Are you a mythology buff and pull a great deal from that knowledge? Or maybe you’re into science and use that a good bit!) I’m a history buff. I love history! I find it so fascinating and you can learn so much from it. I don’t understand how anyone can hate history because the study of it helps us learn where we came from so we can keep from repeating the mistakes of the past. European and Russian history are my favorites. My specialty is Middle Ages Europe through the Religious Reformation. I also know a lot of British history because I’m of Anglo-Norman English descent. I find Imperial Russia quite fascinating as well. I may be American but American history is one of my weak spots. I’m very influenced by the things in history that have grasped my attention. I love things Medieval, Renaissance, and Victorian. I could go on forever about what all historical things that I love to study.
Have you had/do you have one person that you would consider your “writing mentor?” I had a teacher in high school that particularly mentored me with writing poetry. I was introduced to the work of Sylvia Plath by this person as well. They had a big influence in my life and I’m very grateful that I did have them.
Have any books made you want to travel to a specific place (in the real world of course!) SIMPLY because the book really brought it to life? Harry Potter - Hogwarts and the Wizarding World, Lord of the Rings - Middle Earth, A Song of Ice and Fire - Westeros and Essos (though I’m afraid the trip there would end with me losing my head or turned into a white walker or something), The Hollows Series - Rachel Morgan’s version of the world with the altered history and the Ever After
Have you ever named a pet after a character from a book you read? Have you named a pet after a character from a work that you wrote? My cat’s name is Callie Daenerys - her middle name being obvious of where it came from
Do any specific settings crop up repeatedly in your works? Are those settings pulled from where you currently live or have lived in the past? I think most of things that crop up come from history books or my imagination. Nowhere I’ve lived but definitely some I’ve visited aka visiting Vlad the Impaler’s castles in Tirgoviste and Bucharest, Romania when living there for a few months.

Happy birthday to J.K. Rowling, who brought the magical world of Harry Potter to readers of all ages! Last month, we sent two Fellows off on their Potter Trail journey. We’ve checked in with them to learn more about the author’s inspiration for her beloved books and how the librarians Vilma Martinez and Christina Stark plan to inspire readers after “being there”:
“Our Fund for Teachers fellowship has come to a close, but the magic will continue to brighten our library worlds and in turn the world of our students. We are grateful that Fund for Teachers "chose" us to be recipients of a 2017 grant! Harry Potter has been in our hearts for years, what better way to re-ignite the love for the series in ourselves, our students and future generations of readers than by going to the sites captured in the pages of J.K. Rowling’s magical series?  Reading the books, biographies, newspapers, watching movies...NOTHING...can compare to the experience of seeing and learning things for ourselves.
To stand in the grandeur of places like Tower Bridge, Lacock Abbey, Gloucester Cathedral, Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, and all the others, it's just an indescribable feeling. We love J.K. Rowling for creating such vivid, complex, beloved characters and a truly magical world that continues to touch so many people -- young and old alike! Through our walks, we saw older couples getting just as excited to stand in the places where Harry, Ron and Hermione stood and we could hear the excitement in their voices, see the excitement on their faces. (People could say the same thing about us!)
Twenty years after Rowling’s first book was published, we were there to celebrate her spirit and her characters and the magic welcomed us with open arms as we created videos that will enhance students’ reading experience. In addition, we’re planning the following activities for students after they read each book in the series:
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: Choose your House: a sorting ceremony where students will be placed into their House (and earn house points throughout the year). "Plenty of courage, I see. Not a bad mind, either. There's talent, oh yes. And a thirst to prove yourself.  But where to put you?"--The Sorting Hat
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: Photo opportunity with robe and house scarf, plus Make Your Own Wand MakerSpace project.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban: Write a handwritten letter to J.K. Rowling and a tweet using our schools’ library Twitter accounts.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: House competitions in which students compete for points answering questions based on the first four books read using Quizizz. (if you haven't used this app in the classroom, check it out, it's tons of fun for students, they will beg you to use it again and again).
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix: Use Google Slides or TouchCast to write or report on their favorite characters. (Write Ups will be showcased on the library "Hogwarts: Heroes and Villains" bulletin board display.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: Using MovieMaker or other video making app or program, make a promotional video to entice new readers. Special screenings to occur live during Morning Announcements.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Discover the most popular title in the series. Provide students with a ballot which they will cast at the end-of-the-year Harry Potter Party where students can have a magical time talking and sharing their favorite parts, books, characters, scenes, the list goes on and on. The House Winner will be announced and photographed! More photo ops such as "Have You Seen This Wizard," Platform 9 and 3/4's and anything else the students come up with!
J.K. Rowling said it perfectly,  "The stories we love best do live in us forever, so whether you come back by page or by the big screen, Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home."
So again, thank you Fund for Teachers and a big thank you to our blog readers for following us on this magical exploration of all things Harry Potter!”
On their blog, which they maintained throughout their fellowship, Vilma and Christina also offer Harry Potter resources for students, parents and teachers.
Vilma Martinez is the Library Media Specialist at Boone Elementary in Alief, TX. She is an instructor for both online and face-to-face professional development courses for her district and also presents at the state Technology Conference and Support Staff Association Conference. Christina Stark is the Library Media Specialist at Albright Middle School, also in Alief.  She, too, presents professional development in her district, teachers an online course as an adjunct professor at the University of North Texas, and has received two grants from the National Endowment for Humanities.

Biography
Margaret was born as the second child of a 5th Baronet, Charles Stapleton. An aristocratic - kind off - background was given to her by birth and it made her youth an unusual one. With five children at home your life was not usual either. Her brother would have to carry on their family name, as Maggie knew that she would have to uphold the family’s reputation.
Once of age Maggie was send to an all girls boarding school, one of the best of the country. After boarding school she made the decision to go to the Birmingham City University, despite her parents wanting her to go to a smaller university. She rolled into a Public Relations bachelor and finished it by the age of 23. Ever since the age of 19 however she became a part of the Stapleton Foundation, a foundation focused on organising trips for sick children as being one of their last wishes. She chose her education knowing that she was going to step up inside this organisation.
Since this year she’s named the Vice-President of the Stapleton Foundation, using most of her time on meetings and Maggie is not that happy about that yet. She liked it much more to be on the developing side, organising the trips. She knows that her sister Vanessa would like her place so much more, but she is not of age yet where she has finished her degree. So Maggie knows it is only a few more years to hold on.

Top BEST 150 audio books (5-star audio book list) to read during covid19 home stay
After reading/listening to more than 1,000 books, here is my (growing!) list of 5-star favorites.
I am very stingy with my ratings/stars.
If I really (really!) enjoy something, it gets 4-stars (or 4.5 stars).
5-stars are reserved for books I love so much I think everyone should read them ;)
I am not linking to Amazon (or other) to avoid making any money off this post--it is a public service. I get most of my books from the library (libby app or hoopla) but also buy from Chirp and audible.
If you need an "escape" right now from all the goings on, this post is your best friend.
Happy Reading!
  NEED MORE RECOMMENDATIONS?
I have hundreds and hundreds of 4-star books. Read my reviews/see my ratings on Goodreads. Currently, I average about a book every other day and I try not to read too many "popular" or "main stream" books (e.g. Reese book club) because I LOVE finding the overlooked gem and giving it love. I usually include summaries with my reviews to help you decide if you're in or out!

However extra to the raceAhead level, each Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Vice President Joe Biden have been requested to account for his or her information on race. Although the problems have been from completely different eras – and Buttigieg was ready for the query — each, in my opinion fell brief. (Although, as my colleague Renae Reints factors out, everyone missed a whole lot of other topics, too.) The tales under will help you fill within the blanks.[/bs-content][bs-link link=”http://fortune.com/2019/06/28/democratic-debate-highlights-night-two/” source=”Fortune”] [bs-title]This is the background on Joe Biden’s historical past with college busing[/bs-title][bs-content]Kamala Harris introduced the show-stopper. “It was hurtful to listen to you speak in regards to the reputations of two U.S. senators who constructed their reputations and careers on the segregation of races on this nation,” she said. Her critique included his stand opposing college busing within the 1970s, which he unequivocally did. In 1975, Biden supported an anti-busing measure from famous civil rights opponent Sen. Jesse Helms, then doubled down the following yr with a bid to cease the Justice Division from utilizing busing as a desegregation measure. It was throughout this time that his collegial relationship with segregationist Senator James Eastland grew to become a difficulty. And I will concede his preliminary “I did not get it carried out,” possession of the escalating racial tensions between residents of colour and the police in South Bend, Indiana was compelling. However it was not sufficient. The racial points at the moment are years within the making and embody a neighborhood revitalization scheme that was designed to revitalize the small metropolis however as an alternative has been broadly criticized as being burdensome to individuals of colour. However Harris made quiet historical past final evening by being the primary girl of Indian descent to run for president and make it to the primary debate stage. (The primary Indian American to run for president was Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, who solely acquired so far as an undercard debate earlier than tapering off.) It isn’t as if Harris is not forthcoming: Her mom is the particular person she most quotes on the marketing campaign path and in her work, and she or he wrote extensively about her in her autobiography. Shyamala Gopalan Harris was a breast most cancers scientist and civil rights activist who emigrated to the US from India in 1960.
