14yr old Angeal has trouble controlling his newfound powers and doesn't know why he's special. He hides his abilities from his adopted mom, Cissnei, so as not to worry her. He's been using his power and abilities to hunt monsters ravaging their town and the surrounding areas to help the weak since he was ten years old. The only problem is his powers are continually growing and becoming more unstable and he doesn't know how to deal with it. He sets out to the only place where he feels someone can help him. The Hero Headquarters of New Shinra in New Niebelheim. What he didn't expect was to run into his Hero and the one person who can give him all of the answers.

Is cloud bisexual in canon? I dunno. Couldnt say for sure (im in Rebirth chapter 12 and Only discussing rebirth rn). I can definitely say he's Aware Andrea admires him, Super Aware Dio likes him and is flattered by it and up to flirt with that opportunity (wild choice cloud but okay).

I keep hitting you with asks. I'm sorry adskjasdkjlsdkljdsk I've been thinking about the genderbent version of Sephiroth (and it's making my bisexual heart flutter). Do you have any headcanons for AGSZC if they woke up one day as a different gender and how they would handle that?

Angeal: The abrupt switch in gender is unfortunate, but he's not the type to dwell on what can't be changed. He gets up in the morning and makes the most of it, calling his mom for advice and trying his best to make himself look presentable before going "fuck it" and going to work. Oh goddess....he looks weird, doesn't he? That's why people are staring and whispering, and why Zack keeps stuttering and won't look him in the eye, and why Sephiroth and Genesis simultaneously ran into the glass doors when they saw him.

Zack: This is the opportunity of a lifetime for him. He's always wondered what it'd be like to be a girl. Unfortunately he has a heart attack when he goes to the bathroom that morning and sees that something is missing. He spends a good 10 minutes freaking out before he realizes that he's a different gender. This is great! Free stress balls on his chest, and his ass looks great when he does squats. His day is going great until lunch, when he feels a random uterus cramp.

Zack: Oh man...I can't be on my period already, can I?

Cissnei: Hm. It could be lots of things—ovulation, stress, hormonal imbalances, an ovarian cyst, a UTI, many possibilities.

Zack: I should go to the doctor. He'll tell me what's wrong, right?

Zack:

Zack: Why are you laughing?

Genesis: He's someone who's very in touch with his own body and has spent most of his life getting his appearance to a point he's comfortable with. So it's an utter nightmare when he wakes up and he's not in the same body he went to bed in. He's sulking and upset for an hour before he finally makes his peace with it. Come to think....now instead of being the hero, he's the goddess herself! He slips on his old uniform that previously no longer fit, and goes out to cause chaos by flirting with with his friends and seeing how long it takes them to realize that it's him.

Cloud: He's having a rough time. He's aware that it's his body, but it feels wrong to even touch or stare at. He puts on his baggiest uniform and tries to go to work as normal, hating the attention and stares he receives from the other troopers. Someone thinks it's funny to whistle and catcall him. Cloud breaks their nose and attempts murder.

Sephiroth: Has a bit of a meltdown when he looks in the mirror that morning and sees his mother's face staring back at him. Never mind that he's a different gender, he can't keep his hands from his face. Is this what his mother's nose felt like? Her lips? Her jaw, her face? It's as if he's staring at the photograph again. Because of this, he feels oddly comfortable in his new body, and goes about his day as normal.

Zack: Sephiroth! You're a girl!

Sephiroth: How dare you, Zack.

Zack:

Sephiroth: I'm a woman.

Angeal: You know, Zack, you're a lot smarter than you give yourself credit for.

“So what’s the first thing you’re gonna do when we’re back in Midgar? Me? I’m thinking takeout! Cissnei handed me recs as a thank you for being ‘a delight to shadow’. Probably not a good thing but hey I’ll take the nice food. Oh by the way! There’s this kid in infantry, he hasn’t had great luck with the SOLDIER exam and I was wondering… well if you could give me a tip or two?”

Only the walls and echoes of footsteps answer Zack. That’s completely fine! What kind of friend would he be if he couldn’t handle Seph being out of sight? It’s that stupid basement, that stupid library and that stupid lab rattling his nerves. Once they’re outside, he’ll be able to focus. Then the only thing they’ll have to worry about will be-

SOLDIER is like a den of monsters. Don't go inside.

Shinra. It was bad when they left but now… with what they learnt… Still he couldn’t just leave Kunzel or Aerith like that. Could he convince Sephiroth to stay? …Yeah, right. Zack’s attempts with Genesis and Angeal had worked so well after all. No. Seph wouldn’t stay only for one guy. Not for Zack.

Would he just leave alone then? Sure, he mentioned it on the way to Nibelheim… then what? Maybe the demon of Wutai would be fine living on the run but for how long? He used to see Shinra’s Firsts as pinnacles of strength, all of them. One impaled himself on Zack’s sword, another is dying and set on taking as many as he can with him, the last is this close to flying the coop.

Deep breaths. Deep breaths… The buster sword is a familiar burden on his back. There may be no meaning in fighting for Shinra. Still Zack can fight for his friends, including those he can yet save. He can do this. He has to. No one else has got as close of a shot.

“All that ancient stuff flew over my head, you know? But Guess what! I know a girl down in the slums who is ALSO a Cetra. Maybe you two could bond over the planet and talk about your moms.”

In retrospect spilling that secret of hers wasn’t the smartest thing. Tseng and Aerith will rightfully scold him if, no when they go back, but it’s FINE! Sephiroth wouldn’t do anything harsh, would he?

What about Jenova? Didn’t Hojo say she was not an ancient but a calamity from the sky? After being trapped by Shinra for so long, would that monster give up so readily on Sephiroth? No and neither would Zack put in the same spot.

… He is out of ideas. Still there has to be something, anything! Maybe the hippies at Cosmo Canyon could help out. He’ll take the guy snoring in the coffin at this point. Well he would if he wasn’t afraid of more skeletons from Shinra’s closet falling onto the two of them. And in the middle of that storm a thought stops Zack dead in his tracks: he can’t hear any footsteps.

No, no, no. Sephiroth can’t have just left without him noticing! All of these enhancements, all that training, all that fighting and he can’t even keep an ear out for a friend. Where is the silver lining that kept him going despite Shinra’s bullshit? Where is Sephiroth?

He can’t breathe. He can’t see the end of this tunnel. He can’t hear anything but his own stupid thoughts and his heart hammering in his chest. Fuck it. He has to make sure his friend is here. He has to-

 “No matter what you cannot let your companions see your doubts.” A memory of a lesson with Sephiroth rises above his dread, a glimpse of a far off star in cloudy skies. “They are counting on you to keep calm even as death takes their friends. As long as their leader stands, the formation will hold. You stick the course and do not look-“

Zack turns around.

“Seph, I-“ But he doesn’t get to finish as Sephiroth’s icy glare shoots down any further excuses. Without another word the general heads back towards the library. The last thing Zack hears is that damned door slamming shut once and for all.

Tseng took a moment to fix his uniform, eye trailing over Reno's choice of casual attire, but knowing well enough not to pull at that thread. "Lodbrok, Winsord and Lin and expendable; outdated and of no further use to the company. But we cannot have Wutai getting their hands on an Active-type SOLDIER. This mission is to be given priority."

thumbing through the other documents inside the sparce file, reno noticed a glaring gap surrounding the second class - first name, rank, a few other attributes, but no surname. no familial information. no parents. no next of kin.

if shinra had that stuff on file, then he'd have access to it. that was the way it had always been - that's what the turks were there for. to tie up loose ends. so why would they redact vital information?

in reality, the kid probably wasn't heading back home to his parents or hometown if he was with lodbrok, but still - knowing if dear old mom or dad were still above ground would be great for leverage, could end up being a trump card to force the kid out of hiding.

either the kid was an orphan and shinra genuinely didn't have that information, or they were scrubbing the backgrounds of the new SOLDIER intakes.

' i want freya. ' reno answered after a few minutes, setting the pictures and documents back inside the file cover and letting it lay on the table. he didn't sit up though, he kept his foot braced against the empty chair next to him, leaning back and folding his hand behind his head.

' she was tasked with getting close to him - the second class, i mean. her to him and cissnei with fair. i want freya with me for this mission - she might know where he'll go ... and a familiar face might draw the kid out. '

omgggg ok category 5 autism moment incoming i just feel CRAZED like omg. voice direction is something i feel i care perhaps an above average amount about so of course i'm like paying super attention to all that but also i'm just so confused like the way in which caleb performs as zack is so. not zack. like i'll disregard the pitch thing for right now even if they were trying to get someone that hit closer to zack's japanese voice actor's range why wouldn't they get. a Voice actor? like caleb pierce has had a number of on camera rolls but this was his first voice acting roll. and sure like aerith's new va hadn't done voice acting either but she's like. good at it? i don't know how to say this lightly but he's bad. or at least for the character he's bad. there are plenty PLENTY of voice actors in that mid high range with all the levels of nasal and scratch you could ever dream of that can give you the emotional range and growth zack goes through. caleb just doesn't perform that. we see this in scenes where he's meant to be yelling yet he puts no strain in his voice or in scenes where he's meant to be calm and understanding where he still has a snarky bite.

another thing that comes to mind for me to show just how different they play the character is the scene where zack meets aerith for the first time. once he collects himself, rick has zack deepen his voice a bit to put up a sort of bravado, he's just met this cute girl you see, zack is something of a flirt, he's just made a fool of himself falling through her roof and he's compensating. what a nice moment of ACTING!!!!! that is TONE that is ALL rick and/or the director. that wasn't the script. caleb reads those lines the same way he reads everything else. there isn't the same nuance and intrigue in performance, to me anyway. i find watching caleb perform boring to listen to honestly. like he's too afraid to get a little silly or a little ugly. no mess. all snark. and sure up to a point you can get away with that i Guess but it's not a terribly long time. once angeal starts pulling away zack gets more serious. he's still goofy and silly but he's also angry and loud and confused and he doesn't know how to deal with any of it. caleb not getting more rough with his voice takes the emotion out of these scenes. "WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO ANGEAL?" stops sounding like an angry and horrified boy who thinks his mentor just killed his mom, and starts sounding like someone scolding their dog or something. like this was a failing of the director if nothing else.

but let's get back to the pitch because i am so serious it makes a difference!!!!!! even if caleb had STARTED at the same place he should have ENDED putting on at least a Little bit of a deeper voice? like am i supposed to assume this man has No range? i don't wanna assume that i don't fucking know this guy!!!! but like man. angeal is Such an important person to zack. zack sees angeal in EVERYTHING. one of the first scenes is angeal saving zack and grabbing his hand to pull him up. zack is the one who ends up killing angeal. angeal chose him because he knew he was going to die anyway and he didn't want it to be at the hands of shinra by any means. zack is not shinra to him. zack is his cherished friend and mentee. zack kills angeal and is gifted his sword. zack mourns angeal. cissnei tells him wings don't signify a monster, they symbolize freedom. zack looks up to the sky as white feathers fall around him. he catches one in his hand and says, "those wings, i want them too." when zack dies it's angeal we hear his final message to, and we see him reach his hand out to be pulled up by angeal. he smiles as he goes. the main theme of crisis core is dreams and honor. dreams and honor is angeal's theme, angeal's leitmotif. we hear dreams and honor in nearly every song in the soundtrack, even including cloud's. most importantly zack's theme, the actual main character of this video game, is dreams and honor with an electric guitar. zack sees angeal in EVERYTHING. zack thinks the entire world of angeal. in nibelheim he tries to fulfill a similar role in that moment that he had with cloud. he tries to be the rock. when cloud shifts the conversation to be about zack, zack breaks. he lets out a bit of that frustration and confusion at what shinra is forcing him to do. when cloud brings up his sword he suddenly remembers angeal again. not just that he was his mentor and he was grounding, but his strong sense of morals and ideals. his dreams and honor. it is in this moment i believe zack stops seeing "SOLDIER" as SHINRA and starts seeing it as angeal. angeal stopped seeing zack as shinra long ago. before zack kills all those infantrymen he repeats angeal's mantra. embrace your dreams and whatever you do, protect your honor, as SOLDIER. zack is not still attached to the military he's currently slaughtering the lowest members of. he's not desperately clinging to a title of power he once held. he's reclaimed it and given it to angeal.

ALL THIS TO SAY I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT HE CHANGES HIS VOICE TO SOUND MORE LIKE ANGEAL'S AS HE GETS OLDER. like from a character perspective it makes no sense he wouldn't have a vocal change At All after so much has happened like that's a super easy thing you can give to a character to show growth. AND ZACK HAD THAT. BEFORE. i'm running out of steam. it's just kind of crazy to me like even separating rick gomez from the equation caleb pierce plays zack in such a boring unnuanced way. but anyway. heart<3

Just wanted to quickly apologise for my absence the past few days, gonna get to reply over the course of the weekend! Needed a breather from the Tumbles <3

As payment for my absence, here's a smol head canon <3: We all know how happy Cissnei is now and how talkative and beaming she is, but Cissnei in her earlier days was a quiet individual, and never uttered a word, choosing only to either write her answer down on a notebook or make certain vocal cues in disapproval or approval such as a grunt or sigh. The reason was due to the trauma that she experienced when her dad was murdered and her mom dying not too long after.

The loss of her family affected her badly, so much so that she refused to speak until she found the peace she wanted. That being to destroy the gang that bullied and murdered her father. At that time, only Veld and Tseng could get Cissnei to speak, but only in private away from the others. That changed when she finally got her revenge (Will talk more about what happened later).

From that point on, Cissnei opened up to the rest and finally spoke to the others finding the justice that she wanted. She was still relatively tsundere with the others, but eventually she blossomed and relented, showing a side that she thought would never come back after years of hatred and mourning.

i think Tifa probably knows how to bake, with her running a bar both in canon and post canon, i think she probably got her hands in doing other stuff in the kitchen

in my heart i feel like Barret would be good or maybe was in the past before he lost his hand, but he would be a bit awkward with his prosthesis (especially when he was only having a gun there). But i think Barret would still try because it's important for him to be able to have those bonding moments with Marlene. So i think he probably wouldn't bake with ease but he'd help out as much as he can in the kitchen still.

(in fact i totally picture that when Tifa and Barret met each other they both teamed up to give Marlene as much of a normal upbringing in this chaos so they'd be in the kitchen with Marlene on Barret's lap, and Barret would whip the ingredients once they were all together, while showing Marlene how to do, while Tifa would help out for all the things Barret would be awkward with doing)

I also believe Reeve can cook pretty well because his mom taught him right (he's a real momma boy, watch On The Way To A Smile: A Denzel Story to learn more--), but he's always so busy that he keeps just feeding himself with energy drinks and food so much so he probably forgot how to cook. Save him.

the remake also leads me to believe Biggs would cook pretty well since he was very active at the Leaf House taking care of kids and the others folks there talk about how Biggs would effortlessly take good care of the place.

for the rest of the cast, i feel like most of them either are neutral or disaster in the kitchen. I don't think Cid ever set a food in the kitchen to help out. Nanaki cooking with his paws is out of the question. Cait Sith is a robot and probably inherited his creator's lack of focus on that. Vincent has been locked in a coffin sleeping for 30 years this man doesn't know how to even navigate in a kitchen anymore.

I feel like Yuffie is probably more used to survival cooking type to really know how to bake but who knows.

I don't believe Cloud, Zack, or Aerith would be able to not fuck something up in the kitchen. I genuinely believe Cloud and Zack would both have the idea of "if we need to cook 10 mins at 300° degree it'd be quicker if we cook it at 3000° right" "i'm getting out the fire materia brb" and then they would fuck it up, and for Aerith i believe she would try her hardest and all but something will go wrong somehow. I believe those three would be disaster in the kitchen, i believe in my heart--

oh and in the Crisis Core squad, i believe Angeal could bake quite well. Genesis would never dirty his hands with that but he'll be here reciting Loveless verses for mental support (his friends are not feeling supported there). Pre-Madness i feel like Sephiroth would help out but never be really good with it, since he was always made to focus more on war stuff anyway, and i feel like it'd add a layer to how his Madness was pretty much "well i'll be the monster they set me out to be anyway" by also reacting like "oh they think i can set a kitchen on fire? what about tHE WHOLE TOWN" (Nibelheim dying in the back)

Kunsel could probably bake but he's always busy with data collection so he's probably not having the head for it. Also Avalanche-wise i have no idea for Jessie and Wedge, could go either way.

and oh god there's the Turks too i can't forget.

before that: Rufus never cooked in his life he's a rich kid. I don't trust Reno in the kitchen at all, Rude, it's up for debate. I feel like Elena wouldn't be good either. The only Turks i'd trust are probably Tseng because he's a perfectionist, and Cissnei because she seems more put together at least

... so yeah in term of the main squad i really only believe in Tifa, and Barret is probably the closest to her because he makes effort damnit, else i include Angeal, Tseng and Cissnei on the list.

Things I liked: 

Part of the final dungeon, Howling Fangs, was purely optional. Love that. Didn’t want to do it. 

The music.

The magic felt way more overpowered than normal. I was kind of into it. The final bosses were a cakewalk because of it. 

The final sequence with Zack against the Shinra army. 

Things I didn’t like: 

The writing. Holy shit, this script was really bad. No one talks like this, and the relationships that Zack had with everyone were so painfully underdeveloped. They tried giving him too many friends, and when the game is this short, that’s a fatal mistake. 

I think the relationship issue could’ve been alleviated if there were small segments where Zack actually teamed up with some of the others as guest party members. Particularly Cloud, Sephiroth and Angeal. 

All the new characters written for the game. Each of them are on a sliding scale of generic/they exist (Cissnei, Angeal) to bad (Genesis).

Genesis. What a shitty character and final villain. The guy had no personality outside of his favorite book. Every time he opened his mouth, I wanted to punch him in the teeth and skip the scene entirely. 

Some of the characters should’ve been composited to trim down the cast. Cissnei’s role should’ve been just Tseng, and Angeal would’ve made a better final villain. (I’m pretty sure the only reason Cissnei exists was to give Zack another female friend aside from Aerith.)

Weird pacing. The first act was super long, the second act was short, and the third act was in the middle.

Zack’s characterization was disappointing. He’s kind of a Gary Stu honestly. 

The repetition of the missions got really annoying. Granted, at least they’re short. But traversing the same maps over and over again got old. 

Some of the letters in the mail mechanic seemed to hint at story events, but they never happened. I.E. In Nibelheim, Cloud sends Zack a message saying that maybe they could visit Cloud’s mom and have dinner together. It was disappointing to see the narrative ignore it, then prompty gloss over almost everything leading up to the reactor events. 

I’m very happy I didn’t pay for this game. I will be returning it to my library and will never play it again.

Lately, I've been really reading the FF7 timeline to copy it down for reference and I've found some *very* interesting details. Here's a list of stuff so far:

Bugenhagen is apparently born in 1877?? This means he's 130 years old in OG!!

Pres Shinra is born in 1940. Palmer is 3 years younger than him.

Hojo was born in 1945, making him around 35 when Sephiroth is born.

ShinRa was known as "ShinRa Manufacturing" before it was an electric company, and we apparently don't have a date for when it was founded but know it discovered Mako energy on September 23, 1959.

Heidegger is born in 1949, making him a year older than Vincent.

Both Vincent and Lucrecia are born in 1950.

Red XIII is born in 1959, which is apparently the same year the Gi attacked.

Grimoire dies ~1970, which means Lucrecia was around 20 when it happened. Can you imagine doing undergrad research trying to get ahead of the curve and you get your advisor killed by the equivalent of a minor deity cuz you wouldn't stop poking it? She wasn't even a grad student when it happened 😂

Barret and Reeve are the same age, having been born in 1972.

Cid is actually 3 years younger than both of them, having been born on Feb 22, 1975.

Construction on the Midgar plate starts in 1976, and ShinRa is known as an electric company by then, but we don't know when that actually changed.

Tseng, Rufus, and Rude are all the same age, having been born in 1977. SOLDIER is initiated in the same year to help bring an end to a long-running international war.

Oh, Jenova is also found in 1977, which means none of the trio can even be conceived until that year. The Jenova Project also starts up that year.

At some point between 1977 and 1982, Vincent is assigned to guard the scientists running Project S. Yeah, we have no concrete date for that.

Somewhere around 1980, the trio are all born. No actual birthdates for any of them.

Gast leaves Shinra in 1980, which means, that even if Sephiroth is born in late 1977, he literally never knew the guy. He apparently meets Ilfana at some point before 1985, but we have no date for that.

We also have no official date for Lucrecia going crazy and Vincent getting shot. Wiki says it's somewhere around 1984, which is fucking wild. Cuz it's stated that she goes crazy during pregnancy and Vincent confronts Hojo as a result of that, which gets him shot. And yet, Sephiroth is supposed to be born around 1980??? Which means there's no chance he was born that late? WHICH IS IT SQUARE???

Reno is born in '79, meaning he's conceivably older than Sephiroth??

We have no concrete date for Zack being born, just the "around 1984", except we know he's 16 in '00, which means he was born early '85 at the latest since he's canonically 2 years older than Cloud and CC starts in October of '00.

We have no idea how old Kunsel is! I usually place him as being born in '83 and a year older than Zack.

Aerith was born Feb 7, 1985 and Gast was killed 20 days later on Feb 27.

Cloud was born on August 11, 1986 and Tifa was born on May 3, 1987.

we have actual years for basically all the Tsviets being born and yet no date for Sephiroth.

Yuffie's mom is apparently named "Kasumi"??

The Wutai war begins "around" 1992, which means Sephiroth could conceivably be, at the youngest, like, 8 when it starts up and around 16 at the oldest. We also have no concrete date for when he gets deployed, but know he's apparently a 1st class already by then?

Tseng is also only, like, 15 when the war starts, which leads me to believe that he gets recruited by the Turks in the early days of the war. He's also a rookie Turk by 1997 when the whole thing that results in Kalm being bombed happens.

Cissnei is hailed as the youngest ever full Turk, and considering Tseng is one by the time he's 20, and Reno is one when he's late teens, she's gotta be as young or younger than Zack. I usually put her as being born in '85 and thus 15 when CC starts.

Before Crisis is fucking wild dudes. We have at least years for all the events and it gets the Turks involved in a huge number of events in the timeline.

Rufus isn't made VP until after Genesis deserts. Seriously. The mass desertion event happens in October of '00 and Rufus isn't VP until December.

The Wutai war ends in Feb of '01 and Avalanche starts being a problem almost instantly (hmmm, I wonder why?? It's almost like someone started giving the group funding to start up 🤔)

Cloud leaves Nibelheim somewhere between December of '00 (when he makes his promise to Tifa) and April of '01 (when he meets Zack on the Modeoheim mission).

Cloud successfully kills a RAVEN (an enhanced Avalanche soldier made by Fuhito, a cheap Hojo knock-off) with their own sword in June of '01 when he's 14.

Avalanche attacks the ShinRa building in June of '02 and apparently almost makes off with Hojo??

Avalanche learned of Aerith and actually try to kidnap her in August of '02.

Cloud, Zack, and Sephiroth arrive in Nibelheim on Sept 22 and are then there for a whole 9 days before Sephiroth snaps and burns the town to the ground on the 10th (October 1).

Marlene is born in late winter/early spring aka early '03, making her 4 at the time of OG.

Apparently, Avalanche and the Turks were involved in the failed Shinra No. 26 launch?? I actually refuse this specific thing as canon, but the failed launch happened on April 12 of '03. Cid is 28 at the time.

The Corel reactor is attacked on May 8, and the town is blamed for it and burned to the ground apparently the same day??

Red XIII is captured by Shinra on October 30 of '06. And apparently, Reno was one of the Turks who captured him??

Zack and Cloud escape the lab on Dec 18 of '06. It then takes him almost 3 months to make it to Gongaga (arrives in February).

Then, Zack doesn't make it to Banora until September?? And that's when he deals with Genesis. And then he's dead before the month is over.

An entire mess with a summon called Zirconiade happens in early October of '07, where Midgar is almost destroyed cuz Fuhito decided that killing all humans was the best way to save the planet and turns himself into the summon?? Idk BC is fucking wild. This marks the end of this incarnation of Avalanche.

Tifa also finds Cloud wandering the slums in October of '07 and then the reactor bombing doesn't happen until December. This gives us officially 2 months of time where his recovery was happening and zero details. I have fanfic ideas already.

It's incredibly funny to me that Avalanche as the Turks know it is done in October and then, 2 months later, another cell pops up and has the balls to bomb a reactor. Talk about the mother of all cockroaches.

Apparently, officially, OG takes place over around a month or so??

Edge is being built by the end of January '08 and the WRO is also founded very quickly. I don't know if I believe that, really.

Advent Children happens in '10, and we have very little knowledge about those 2 years other than some OVAs and light novels I think.

DoC happens in '11. The less said about that, the better.

So like. We will see how ff7 remake continues on its version of canon. But for me and my old experience of ffvii and crisis core and dirge of cerberus, they left me shipping

Aerith/Tifa/Cloud/Zack (all 4 except like i think tifa and zack are maybe just friends)

Aerith/tifa/cloud (cause zack died ;-; )

Aerith/tifa (frankly i ship them more without cloud but if they want him they can have him)

Cloud/zack (crisis core cloud was adorably crushing, asked zack out for ramen and brought him home to mom, zack spent years hauling his ass trying to keep him safe, genuinely they Gotta be close thats just how it is)

Angeal/Genesis (crisis core childhood best friends to tragedy)

Cloud/barret (so maybe cloud doesnt crush on barret as hard as on aerith and tifa. But they can go on a date. Whether its as friends/frenemies/crushes is up to ones preference)

Tifa/cloud/barret (advent children era up for interpretation. Theyre raising kids together, clouds linked to So many poly ships why not include this)

Cloud/sephiroth (sure not strictly canon supportable. But if sephiroth's getting paired with anyone non-genesis, clouds a good choice. Sephiroths linked to him forever post ff7, and remake seph? Well abaolutely the Remake's canon compliant ship sephiroth/cloud are u fucking kidding me? Of course. The new games wont let me forget)

And of course the Mega Poly ship zack/aerith/tifa/sephiroth/cloud/barret (where zack and tifa are only friends, seph and tifa are possibly hostile, barret is romantic w cloud and anyone else its your choice)

And of course dirge of cerberus poly ship yuffie/vincent/reeve

(All of the above are full canon To Me ahshhd im sure theyre not maybe intended as such but to me? All thats canon compliant workable)

Optionally Connects to the Other big poly ship: yuffie/vincent/reeve (well dirge of cerberus was begging for this ship interpretation - optional, not sure yuffie/reeve would be together but they can both be with vincent. Then if you ship vincent and cloud, thats how this big poly ship connects! And if u think theres a chance sephiroth is Vincents kid instead of Hojos, altho remake implies its probably hojo whos the dad, then it gets a lil funny vincents dating cloud and so is sephiroth. Of course, vincent loved sephiroths mom so its funny regardless. Vincents an immortal so hes older than everyone anyway. Then well if you ship Cid and Vincent? Then its cid/vincent and reeve/vincent/yuffie and cloud/vincent to cloud/tifa/aerith/zack/sephiroth/barret (excluding certain members when dead) AND angeal/genesis/sephiroth AND if u ship reno with cloud or rude with tifa then u can link reno/rude to the main polycule, AND if u ship rufus/reno or rufus/cloud u can attach them to the main polycule, AND then there tseng who i ship with aerith (blame crisis core and their past) and u could theoretically ship aerith with reno (also turk watching her) or fuck it ship aerith/cissnei (turk watching her) or cissnei/zack (cissnei u could argue liked him) then theres elena and even if shes not dating anyone thw turks are basically a fucked up polycule anyway. And my point? My point is u can shove almost the entire main cast of ff7 into one mostly canon compliant polycule! Unfortunately... if u count vincent and lucrecia and hojo... that means u can also link evil awful slimebag hojo to this giant network slightly.

Zack/sephiroth (not strictly in my eyes but like. I did like them becoming almost friends until u know. Sephiroth got real sad and went off the rails)

Zack/aerith/sephiroth (strictly in a: once theyre all dead in the lifestream, of course zack and aerith would reunite, of course zack would wanna be warm to sephiroth old friend, and sephiroths 3 split selves from Advent Children wouldve clung to aerith so like i gotta imagine hed be on at least speaking terms with her if theyre all in the lifestream - not to mention i think in original ff7 aerith and sephiroth had a lot of parallels in what they emotionally were dealing with and it wouldve made for a good ship. Not like necessarily in line with canon but i think these 3 would have potential)

"Angeal," Sephiroth started, on a night when Cloud was asleep in his room after a long day of sowing chaos, and the two SOLDIERs were enjoying a little bit of peace and quiet in Sephiroth's living room, "why does Genesis call you a 'mother hen?'"

Angeal blinked and then sighed. "He calls me that to try and rile me up. And, it doesn't work because it doesn't bother me."

"...what is a 'mother hen?'"

"What is...? Oh, I see what you're getting at. When Genesis calls me Mother Hen, he's saying I'm behaving like an overprotective mom."

Sephiroth looked thoughtful. "One does not...have to be female, to act like a mother?"

Angeal gave him an odd look. "Well... no, I guess not."

Sephiroth hummed and dropped the subject.

It took several months before Angeal finally figured out why Sephiroth had stopped 'looking for a female influence for Cloud' and started spending more time around Angeal instead. He considered explaining, but quickly decided he was just going to take it as a compliment and let sleeping dogs lie.

How do you like this spot right here? Nice and shady, huh? This is the first tree I’ve seen in a while.

I miss all the trees back home. There were so many, all around town. I bet I climbed every last one of ’em when I was a kid.

Can’t believe we were really there, just a couple of weeks ago. Good old Gongaga. You think it’s funny, Cloud, but you’d love it there. Everything’s so green now, with the reactor out of commission. Some parts are kind of a mess, though. At least Mom and Dad are okay.

I wanted to stay there so bad, but Cissnei wouldn’t let me. She was right, though. Too obvious.

It’s okay if I keep talking, right? Hope I’m not boring you. If I had a radio, we could listen to some music… Hey, I know. Why don’t I sing something?

Heh. Just kidding. I wouldn’t do that to you.

We should rest up here a while, though. It’s gonna be a long journey to Midgar. We’re gonna have to go all the way around the island to Mideel and sneak onto another ship somehow. Hope we don’t run out of gas before we make it to port.

Sorry about the ride, by the way. I can tell it was rough on you.

AU Where Sora Is Aerith Gainsborough/Zack Fair’s Son

Because I can

1. Sora was ✨conceived✨ about a month before the Nibelheim mission, hence why Aerith kept trying to call Zack while he was in Nibelheim

2. ‘Sora’ is an Gongagan name! Aerith went to visit Zack’s parents to tell them about their grandson and heard the name; she decided she liked it :) 

3. Aerith wrote all about Sora (and Sora drew pictures!) in her letters to Zack, telling him every little thing she could about their little boy. She never lost hope that Zack would meet his son... 

4. Sora has Zack’s eyes! Aerith wasn’t sure about the effects of having a child with someone repeatedly exposed to Mako, but from she could see, Sora didn’t seem to be affected in any way other than his eyes...

5. Sora and Aerith sold flowers together 🥺

6. Aerith told Sora everything about his daddy. When she tells him the story of how they met, a 2-3 year old Sora went and laid down in the flowers, in the same spot Aerith said he had landed. It quickly became a thing he did a lot, whenever he was lonely or sad. 

7. Aerith is such a good mom, y’all. Disney may not exist in the FF7 universe, but that doesn’t stop Aerith from being a Disney Mom™️. She and Sora would sing silly songs together as they cleaned her church, they would try and do a good deed every single day, and Aerith made sure to teach her baby how to be loving, compassionate, and kind. She makes some fumbles, as all first-time mothers do, but Elmyra is there too, to help her every step of the way (Elmyra loves her grandson, and Sora loves his grand-mère!).

8. Sora spent the first four years of his life with Aerith in Midgard. One day, however, after a visit from Cissnei, Aerith wakes up in the morning... and she can’t help but feel like something’s missing. She searches every room in the house, the uneasy feeling of missing something sitting heavy on her stomach... but it goes away soon enough. Her mother and her don’t remember why the guest room is completely empty. She finds a baby pacifier, and thinks a cat must’ve brought it in as a toy. Life goes on...

9. Until a year later (after FF7 Remake), when visiting Radiant Garden and her cousins Leon and Yuffie, a teenage boy with an oddly familiar name and similar appearance to her shows up. Aerith can’t put her finger on it, but she feels like she knows this boy. His eyes remind her of Zack’s...
