Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten

Suffocation is one of those bands that due to the nature of their genre will have very little cross over into mainstream appeal, but fuck do they have the skill and talent to be a top 100 artist if people were just a touuuch more willing to listen to death metal.

This album is filled with some of the heaviest and most impressive instrumentation in the metal genre. Every aspect of the performance from the way the guitars seem to fly all over the fret board to the insane drumming skills on display are some of the best the metal genre has to offer. Simply put, this is a fucking classic. One of the best of all time and absolutely an album you should check out if you haven’t already.

This album is considered by many as the very first 'true' Death Metal record

“My lyrics are based more on the subject of death and real-life gore. I get a lot of ideas from seeing gore flicks. For example, "Torn To Pieces" is about the movie "Make Them Die Slowly", and "Scream Bloody Gore" is about "Re-animator" (Chuck Schuldiner for Metal Forces 1987)

metalhead ghost who’s been in moshpits since he was a kid and is now a veteran of the scene and the self appointed look out. he keeps an eye out for anyone falling or passing out, kicks the shit out of anyone crowd killing or putting their hands where they shouldn’t

and he’s been keeping an eye on the punk in the kilt since he saw him throw himself headfirst into the wall of death

he looks like the type to start shit - loud and aggressive as anyone else here but a punk doesn't end up at a metal show for no reason - but there's also something niggling at him that he's gonna end up getting himself hurt. and ghost can’t tell if he’s going to do it on purpose

if he does, ghost needs to know. he uses these places as an escape - the music, the violence, the community - always has and he knows all to well how easily an escape can curdle and become destructive. he’s seen too many people lost to the darker parts of the scene, almost lost himself to it; he doesn’t want it to happen to anyone else if he can help it

so when he sees the punk sweating his mohawk off, his movements becoming looser and uncoordinated, he has no issues with yanking him out of the pit and pulling him away from the crowd; pushing him up against the venue wall and ordering him to open his mouth

the glaze that falls over his eyes concerns him even as he obediently lets his mouth fall open. he was right; the punk’s severely dehydrated, tongue and gums far to pale and along with the look in his eyes, he half-thinks he’s about to drop

he reflexively tightens his hold on his jaw to keep him up and the punk shivers, a flush creeping up his neck. an almost confused arousal joins the haze in his eyes and ghost smirks beneath his mask

looks like metal shows aren’t the only thing the punk is new to

Bolt Thrower - War Master

Jesus Christ bolt thrower’s albums are just so god damn fun. The whole thing feels so insanely epic. It has to be some of the best music to just hang out to and feel powerful. I myself have a toe that’s fucked up and am cramped to hell so I’m laying in bed and thinking about this absolutely insane album.

The riffs are just so over the top. I particularly like how they really do a great job at charging them forward almost march like. Like you get the feeling that some insane fantasy army would be marching to the beat of these riffs. On top of that the soloing is all over the place from more melodical epic and triumphant solos to one’s that feel like absolute chaos just hurtling up and down the fret board.

The vocals are also just so fucking powerful. Bolt Thrower albums always just feel like they’re the perfect thing to get yourself all hyped up. Definitely definitely definitely check out this record if you haven’t already.
