So I asked my mom what can I do

Over the summer she suggested I try it out on my school computer

Today I chose to finally try it

I finished my homework so I called this an award

So I connected my DVD player to my school computer

It worked

I put the dvd for Cars 2 in

It doesn’t work and I couldn’t play the movie

Instead my computer broke it up into smaller files of code

Not an actual video file for me to play the movie

So I’m highly disappointed

there's also a practical reason why students switch rooms instead of teachers in the US: very often you'll be in different classes with different people. you might have English with one person, but you could be in different Math classes. you might be taking Spanish as your required foreign language, but someone else might be taking French. the only way for students to be the ones to stay put is if you have a group of all students taking the exact same classes, which is generally true for elementary school, generally not true for high school, and varies for middle schools.

How useful was Ned's Declassified for non-American schooling? What did or didn't match up to your school experiences?

It's been years so I won't pretend to remember all of it. My country doesn't have school buses though. We also don't have personal lockers. Most of the info that was actually relevant and helpful was about effective studying.

England vs America

Not to be rude or anything but when it comes to final grades Americans really don’t know how lucky they are. If they fail one test they have a bunch more to bring their grade up plus they can do extra credit stuff to bring it up later. In England, you get what? two tests for each subject if you fail one of them your grade is basically cut in half and there's nothing you can do. You can do a resit but unless it's Maths or English and you've been told you need to resit you have to pay and you can bet it's not cheap. Hell, it cost £70 (approx.) to get your exam remarked and a lot of the time it turns out that your exam was marked correctly and you’re £70 in the gutter with the same grade. And while yes, even a low grade is still technically a GCSE or an A-Level but to get into Uni or Sixth Form or Collage you need to get above a certain grade to get in. Plus Americans (if I'm not mistaken) are told what to revise before the test. We're not.

Take Chemistry GCSE for example: let’s you’re a separate Science student (meaning you get a separate grade for Biology Physics and Chemisty rather than a combined grade called Science) over two years - for most schools- you get taught eight topics. In May-June time you get two exam papers. One has the first four topics in it the other has the last four. Now you go into the exam hall panicking because you don’t know what’s going to be in that paper. It’s know it one of the four topics you were taught but not all the topics are gonna be in there. You might get a tonne of Quantative Chemisty questions and you’ll sit there not being able to do any of them because you don’t understand them. You don’t know if it’s going to be Organic Chemisty.

If you take French. Eight topics again. But this time you don’t get two papers that split the topics in half. You get four exams. Listening Reading Writing and Speaking. For Spekaing you get to pick on of three themes which conians at least two if not three of your eight topics and that’s only for the role play element or you speaking exam. You still have a photo card and general conversation. For both of which you have not idea what your going to get. All in all we have to memorise content from a minimum of eight subject to a maximum twelve subjects and that not including any extra languages you decided to do.

To break it down. We choose three subjects, a language and a humanity. So that’s five subjects plus English Maths and Science. Now if you take someone who isn’t in too set Maths and who didn’t get into the separate science and who didn’t take an extra language they’ll have eight subjects and aprox. 24 exams depending on what subjects they choose. That’s our bench mark let’s say.

Me for example I’m in separate science second set maths and I’m doing an extra GCSE in Polish. I took History French Psycology Drama and Computer Science as my subjects. So I’ve got eleven subjects and thirty exams! Now my friend who’s in top set maths has got one more subject that me. Statistics. Man I do not envy her but that’s to that she’s got a grad total of thirty two exams.

That ladies and gentlemen is how fucked up the British education system is. Next time you complain about having so many tests just remember at least woth that many tests you can bring your grade up. We over in England are fucked.

If I got anything horribly wrong about America please let me know. I do want to know more so that I can have a more rounded judgment on this. Thank you for sticking out to the end hopefully we’ll all learn something.

Taylor is a mother to a three year old and she’s recently divorced from her high school sweetheart. They probably shouldn’t have gotten married, but she doesn’t regret it. She adores her son, Marlon.

Taylor was born and raised in Lima, went to high school there, attended McKinley for computer science, and now works at McKinley. She did decide to travel for a year after high school graduation and dreams of getting out of town, but she’s not sure if that will ever happen. Those dreams changed once she got married.
