One of the most incredible things about being an anime fan in 2025 is the massive amount of anime figures available to collectors. And figure companies aren’t just focusing on new series—they’re developing models for older anime, too! A decade ago, that would have been unthinkable, but now? We’ve got new Toradora figures!

We are giving away one Pop-Up Parade figure of Taiga Aisaka, everyone’s favorite tsundere, from the classic series Toradora! Here’s a little BtT trivia: my love for that series sparked a dormant love for anime within me, and it eventually led to me blogging about anime, which led to Beneath the Tangles.

So are we ever going to talk about how 97% of contests for illustrators and visual artists are organized so that the organizer gets hundreds of options FOR FREE for their new merch, poster or whatever it is the art is going to be printed on? It’s like commissioning hundreds of artists without paying, or, if the winner wins money, paying just one out of all the entries you had which might I remind you are not project drafts or proposals, they are full fledged finished artworks.

If I had a nickel for every contest that was set up just so that they don’t have to pay an illustrator to make the stuff they want to make I literally would be a millionaire. And what saddens me is that artists fall for it a lot of the times.

If “exposure” doesn’t pay when your cousin’s friend asks you to draw their picture, it likewise won’t work when these people do it. And that’s what they say if you actually win the contest. If you lose, congrats, you’ve just worked for free. And bear in mind, I’m talking specifically about contests with a set theme where you have to do a lot of intellectual work to submit something that will make sense for what is being requested, I’m not talking about contests where you can just repurpose your old work. Another disclaimer I’ll make is that I’m talking specifically about contests where the winner illo gets printed on merch, becomes the cover art for something, or published in some way. So that means we’re providing someone who is not a client with our full time attention and money, if like in a lot of these contests, there’s a subscribing fee to pay or travel expenses or printing expenses. Or literally the materials used to make the art.

I genuinely don’t understand why so many of us still do these. I maybe understand if someone’s a student and needs practice, but if you’re a working artist I don’t. Now more than ever we need to establish that visual artists, illustrators, character designers, everyone deserves to be paid like any other professional, and if these people can go through the hassle of setting up a whole contest they also have the means of contacting agencies or browsing portfolios to choose an illustrator. Or hire an art director to do it for them.

So no, I won’t be submitting any work for your posters for free. Fuck y’all

Hey lovely awesmazing people and Happy New 2025! Hope it is more bright, more magical, more fun and more inspirational!

As I countdown the hours to saying goodbye to a pretty darn nasty year, I am looking back at some not so bad moments and taking a page from @devooshawrites stealing this lovely idea and doing my own writing review.

✨It has been a year of battles as I got addicted to Writing Battle and did as many as I could. It's exhilarating and I hope to get into even more in 2025.

Between writing battles, London Writer's Salon weekly writing contests and an amazing speedrun zine, Cafeeine Rush, hosted by @bycmykae my new OCs Ryan and Star and their wonderous universe were born. Hoping to be able to bring you more of “The Universe Beyond” in 2025.

✨Even though it was just one, I managed to get out a chapter of “As Loud As a Whisper, As Silent As a Scream”. Thanks so much to @vexednperplexed for the push and faith in me. Love you dear friend. I did also work a lot on the detailed outline for this, so 2025 should hopefully see even more chapters.

✨Of course transformative works have been on my creative forefront again this year. Still very much into my VLD blackhole but slowly branching out as well. Most of the others are in a wip or outline state so they will have to come in 2025 so stay tuned.

✨Last but by no means least, I was honoured and blessed to be part of a few projects this year. The 2024 Drone Photo Awards Capture a Striking Overview of Global Struggle

One of the most charming series of the summer 2024 anime season is Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian. The title gives you the basic setup—tsundere speaks of her adoration for the MC in Russian, which she assumes no one understands (wrongly of course)—but the quality of the voice acting, animation, and characterization has been excellent.

And now, y’all have a chance to read the full array of light novels from which the show is adapted!

We’re giving away volumes one through 4.5 of the series—all the LNs currently released of Alya by Yen Press! That adds up to five volumes in total as it includes a volume 4.5 as well. And it’s so easy to enter!

the rules?

if you set out any hate towards another character or creator, you will be auto disqualified.

a.i art for a character if found will make your character considered in-eligible.

art theft will also carry the same penalty. meaning if you dont have the art, just go to farrgofiction, not that hard.

the character can be nsfw in origin but not in presentation, meaning they need to be clothed for the purpose of this contest.

Characters will be set in brackets of one v one at random.

this means that I am not setting any form of theme

im not trying to set big creators against small ones.

the Only Prize will be copy rights and the ability to show off your funny little guy!

This contest was recommended to me, and I cannot explain the psychic damage I took when i saw those words strung together.

The "Grand Prize" is a wedding at an Elvis themed venue is Las Vegas on the date in the picture with catering being chicken tenders and dip.

What is the target audience for that?
