Books I Bought This Past Month And A Bit
Yeah, I may have a problem. But life is stressful atm so let me have my process.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some of these I've already read but others I have ready for October, some I have for after when I wanna read something lighter since it's spring and summer will be here soon enough.
So happy I found myself a copy of Lucy Undying. Had no idea it was releasing in Australia similar time to the rest of the world. (Yes...unfortunately that is still common here. Looking at you 'The Thirteenth Child', March next year my arse. My Scottish friend has my back there.)
I'm also really excited to read 'The Death of Dora Black', the story is inspired by the first female Australian police officer and I'm all for women being included. (This also hits home a bit cause my grandma was also one of the first female police officers, only in Scotland rather than Australia. My grandad was also a detective at Scotland Yard. It's how they met, really cute story like jskdhfgabklusyjdgfb.)
I finally caved and bought 'Once Upon a Broken Heart', I much preferred the American cover. The bright pink of the Australian cover was just too much (even though I adore pink), but this blue did look nice too.
I'm doing a buddy read with a friend and we have chosen 'The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires'. I'm so pumped cause I don't often get to buddy read.
'The Book of Eve' is written in a really interesting but odd way. I've read the first few chapters but this one is going to take me a while to read for sure.
'Her Soul to Take' has been a really frustrating one to get a hold of. Amazon sent me the wrong version TWICE. I purchased the bonus chapter version. But they said I could keep it and gave me refund so HELL YEAH!!
And ofc I have the new covers of Haunting and Hunting Adeline. I love that series so much. Now just to get an original copy of Hunting Adeline so I can annotate it and add it to my collection. Amazon unfortunately screwed up again which is why I currently do not have the original cover. These books are honestly so hard to get here. It's driving me insane. Even second hand copies of this book goes for $40-$50 AUD. I'm legit crying. If anyone has a copy they don't want that's in good condition PLEASE hit me up.
I bought a GORGEOUS version of 'The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue', I've never bought a book like this and when I saw it I just could not help myself. The pretty sprayed edges and the art on the inside I just couldn't say no!
Of course if you've seen my other posts recently you'd know I have been OBSESSED with Erin A. Craig. And I'm currently reading through 'Small Favours' at the moment. Only a few chapters in but it's tickling my brain in a good way so far.
And 'Grimstone'!!! I'm so excited to finally have a copy. I had it preordered since July. So excited to get to it once I've finished all the main books I wanna read first.
If you got this far, honestly, thank you. I know this post is just an excited ramble but it's just fun to ramble about things you like. Leave a bee emoji if you read it all.
Have a good day!

lol, somebody dug up my old Drea/m D/addy fic from the blue forum. I had a whole plan for a series of fics based on that game. I feel like I’ve lost the rhythm and the writing style for them, but it’s still a really fun setting. Did I ever share my very loose outline for that here? I only did the Damien 1 and Mat 1. I REALLY want to do the Brian and Hugo ones, but does anybody still care about D/ream Dad/dy? Is it still something worth writing about? At first I thought I would need to totally replay the games but I think honestly I could just re-read my own fics and brush up a little on the dialogue of the other dads. I think. Add it to the long long list of things I have to write…
Damien 1: Cary is allergic to Damien’s garden
Damien 2: Damien gives Cary snuff (Damien is a fetishist)
Mat 1: Cary sneezes Jonathan Jones and the Speakeasy Choir off the stage.
Mat 2: Mat has a cold, sneezes loud (he sneezes quiet otherwise)
Brian 1: Dad Sneeze competition. Obviously.
Brian 2: Brian and Cary are both sick with the VERY INTENSE MAN FLU, trying very poorly to take care of each other.
Joseph 1: Joseph’s Church Sneezes (dutiful, restrained)
Joseph 2: Joseph’s Boat Sneezes (Full On Dad Sneeze of Thunder)
Hugo 1: Him and Cary reading together silently, Cary tries to hold back a sneeze, but Hugo sneezes massively.
Hugo 2: ????
Craig 1: Craig used to sneeze loud as a rocket back in their college days but he’s become more restrained. Still forceful, powerful, but nevertheless restrained, almost dutiful. Can’t jostle the baby.
Robert 1: ????

Officially charting into another AU! Mortal Kombat Skool Days and Transformers: Instruments of Destruction are now being joined by a remakequel (a phrase coined by my friend Kyle) of one of the most underrated series the Blue Blur was part of...
SONIC UNDERGROUND ENCORE
While I really like the show, I admit it has issues. But for my version, it will be more mature in its themes, similar to SatAM and the 2000's era of games. Plus, I imagine some of the main characters, some of which weren't in the original show, would be "voiced" by actual musicians. Yes, I'm keeping the music aspect. But instead of being cheesy pop numbers, I want it to be more like... well, without a better way to describe it, Crush 40.

Book Review: The Thirteenth Child by Erin A. Craig
Tumblr media
The Thirteenth Childis a sweeping yet haunting fairy tale about a young girl named Hazel Trepás who is promised to Merrick, the god of death.
The youngest of thirteen, Hazel spends her childhood unloved, unwanted, and unseen, as she waits for her godfather to come and collect her. When he finally arrives, he says that she will become a great healer, someone who is gifted with the ability to diagnose ailments in sick people and cure them. However, her gift also comes with a steep price, for not everyone can be healed, and it's up to her to end the suffering each time a new deathshead appears.
This comes to an inflection point when she is ushered to royal court to treat the king, who is suffering from The Brilliance, an illness where the body leaks then solidifies into gold. Though he is marked for death, Hazel is torn. What if she saved him? Is there a bargain she could strike with the gods? And if there were, what would happen if she went against her godfather's wishes?
Romantasy fans will love this! Craig's writing is lush and atmospheric, with vivid descriptions that make readers feel as if they've been dropped into a dark Grimm Brother's fairy tale. That said, there's also a warmness at the core that burns with hope as well as humanity. It makes for the perfect blend of magic and sentimentality.
Hazel is a lonely and secluded character for the most part, a woman who yearns for company, for someone who will look after her and think of her first, and because of that, she feels somewhat reminiscent of Addie La Rue. They have a similar longing in the soul. A desire to belong, not only to the world, but to some of the people in it. I loved that, as well as the tenderness it welled in me as a reader.
A powerful and intimate fairy tale, through and through!
Many thanks to NetGalley, Random House Children's, and Delacorte Press for the ARC in exchange for my review.
4/5 stars

THE UPTON-CRANES (AND BONUS CRANE)
VIOLET UPTON-CRANE (NEE UPTON)
brooke shields
child star turned supermodel turned actress, 90s icon, now in her director/exec producer era. briefly had a singer phase but it was the biggest dip of her career, her only vaguely hit song (because it was so fucking bad) was the subject of a lip sync on drag race where she was a guest judge to prove how much of a good sport she was. now she's in her big shot director era and is always in women in film panels, talking big about feminism etc etc. currently on an international tour around film circuits for a movie that is getting oscar buzz hype about a contentious mother-daughter relationship and she remains coy about the inspiration. she visits gen regularly and takes her out for dinner every month at least, where she normally talks at gen rather than to her.
ADAM CRANE
daniel craig
ceo of the record label let up by his father, started out as a music producer and really does have a knack for it and finding the next big thing. for most of gen's life, he's been in meetings and will throw money at her versus actually parenting. he's pretty affectionate to her when he does see her though, but tends to only really see gen in person during holidays/summer/when his assistant has penciled it in on his calendar. all the presents he buys gen his assistant definitely bought and mostly he just does what his wife says.
ADELINE CRANE
olivia cooke
gen's aunt, yes her grandfather's wives and girlfriends do keep getting younger which is why there's such a small age gap between them. gen's favorite relative, who followed the family tradition and went into music. music wise and stage aesthetically she's chappell roan-esque, just got engaged to her future wife and gen loves seeing them both. would love to see them more often but addie is pretty busy, travelling, performing and attending grandpa crane's 50000th wedding. she will usually see gen on thanksgiving though!
GENEVIEVE UPTON-CRANE
she's the nepo baby your honor.

M. L. Ayer – Author of the *Simon Spring* magical children's series
In this enchanting episode, Craig Addy welcomes author M. L. Ayer to discuss her long-standing passion for storytelling, sparked from a young age, and how a dream involving a flying witch inspired her magical imagination. M. L. Ayer shares fascinating details about her *Simon Spring* series, which follows a boy on extraordinary adventures, infused with magic and mystery.
The episode features a special treat: M. L. Ayer reads excerpts from her work, including a scene where Simon Spring finds a mysterious egg, glowing with gold and silver. Craig, ever the musical artist, selects one passage to create a unique musical composition, adding a new layer of magic to the storytelling.

I headcanon Liane has a deep (for a girl), playful voice, with an accent when she’s emotional.
Adrastia I basically hear as Asami!
Leta I imagine as husky but higher pitched, or deep? Idk.
I’ll try to think of a comparison for Ren?
(Abigail is very high pitched!)
-----
What kind of voice do you think my OC has?
Okay so honestly
I don’t have a specific voice in mind for Liane, but what you described is probably what I would go for.
For Addie, I actually tend to imagine Grey DeLisle’s Azula voice.
I don’t have much of a voice in mind for Leta.
For Ren, I tend to imagine Roger Craig Smith as Ezio. Complete with the getting deeper and huskier and sexier as he gets older. Ren’s voice would currently be Ezio’s circa AC: Brotherhood.

ANOTHER AU!? I know what you're saying... Gwen, you're nuts. But not only are you absolutely right, I think this one might be my most ambitious one yet. As a young nerd, there were two groups. The Marvel fans and the DC fans. And while the rivalry certainly has calmed down a bit, I was almost always torn. So, earlier in the week, I decided to do the one thing that every fanfic writer has tried at least once.
A Marvel/DC crossover.
But unlike the typical realm merger, to put it in Mortal Kombat terms, this is a universe where both properties coexist. For example, picture a group of people walking to a Big Belly Burger while listening to Just the Facts with J. Jonah Jameson. That's just a fraction. I have an ENTIRE starting cast as well.
