Hello there.....
............Nope. Still not dead (so far). Lol.
Don't think many people are missing me anymore... and that's okay - time continues, people move on and grow apart, and life happens. ::shrugs:: What're you gonna do, right?
Tumblr media
Not sure about the state of my stories/fics @ this point... haven't officially decided anything. I once had absolutely every intention of finishing them - I really did love writing them & had many plans for the storyline(s). I just... have so little free time right now that I don't know what the future holds for them. :-/
What I've been doing/Where I've been: 'Mom-ing', lol. I mean, that's really 90-95% of it. My son's now 5, ABA has been great for him, and we're preparing him for kindergarten in the fall. My daughter's 1 1/2 and growing and learning a little more every day. Not every day is 'easy', but for the most part we're doing okay.
I also bought a Cricut Maker cutting machine & eventually started a small side business making and selling my own magnetic toppers for Pair Eyewear glasses (not affiliated with them, just doing my own crafts) - but I want to branch out to other crafts as well. I enjoy it - creating my own designs & making a product for someone else to wear & enjoy. It's a neat feeling - creating something that other people want to use. Pretty cool! It's still in its starting stages, but I'm hoping to gain more customers in the future. If you're ever on FB or Etsy, look me up: - VIP Creations on FB - VIP Creations on Etsy
So... yeah, that's about it so far. ...I'm not super exciting, hehe. ::shrugs again:: If you still wanna chat, definitely feel free to hit me up! I hope 'the gang' I used to chat semi-regularly with is doing well & are all relatively happy. ...It's kinda tough being an older person in the group - a little less to relate to people with, and little 'cliques' always seem to form here & there (my whole life I never really fit in with ANY group/'clique' - that's just me & my weird spectrum-ness, hehe)... but no ill feelings (mostly, LOL). Just... taking one day at a time.

Binderary 2024 wrap-up
When Binderary started, I hadn't touched any bookbinding since August when I broke my foot. Step one was getting my crafting space cleaned up enough to let me walk through it with crutches.
So my original goal was to get one single book done in the month, with a stretch goal of 4 total books, aka peaceful mode of the challenge.
I finished with seven total books, if you include the leather cover I made for my dnd notebook (which I do, it was complicated.)
Here are all my full books from this month on my shelf
Tumblr media
I'm obviously most proud of my two large projects: the 999 script and the Planescape: Torment novelization. They were both involved typesets, and Torment was an experiment in binding style.
This month was about learning new techniques. From the entire k118 binding style, which I learned mostly from a couple blog posts, @spockandawe's advice, and at the end from the fantastic Binderary workshop on it. Plus I was using a guillotine for the first time, which I'm still getting used to.
And I very impulsively bought a Cricut Maker which arrived halfway through the month (thanks to enabling from Renegade folks and finding a used one for a good price.) So I had to learn entirely from scratch how to use that. My experiences with HTV Foil were BAD, but regular HTV is much easier. I then started working with stencil vinyl and paint, which was its own learning process, but worked pretty well on my leather books.
Meanwhile, I was also going through physical therapy for my foot and went from crutches to being able to walk unsupported in my boot, which is huge progress and made working on books much easier as the month went on. So this Binderary was a big time of growth and progress for me personally.
I also really love that Binderary is February because I get in a real creative slump in winter, and after two months of no creative impulses, Binderary always shocks me into high speed creation in a really nice way.
Thanks and love to everyone involved in planning and running this great event and everyone hanging out in the discord and workshop chats.

Hi, I was recommended this event and it sounds very fun and I´m thinking about joining but even on your website you are not very clear about ai art after saying on your Tumblr post that that´s where you should go for answers about it
On your page this is what is standing:
Tumblr media
I don´t want to join an event that supports Ai "art" so I want to be sure before I join
Hi there, it's Zhie -- I'm the one handling the AI art questions. I serve on an AI taskforce, and I have twenty years of AIML experience, which strangely enough means I get to field AI related questions for both work, and play here in the fandom spaces. Below is what we have written on our website regarding Generative AI and Accommodative AI. As an artist who deals with some super fun (sarcasm intended) neurological things that make my hands shake, I utilize a Cricut to cut out things I have designed, and then I put them together, and art happens. A Cricut is technically a robot; the interaction with Design Space to make it cut things can be interpreted as a Accommodative AI tool. I tell it what to cut, but it makes the cuts for me versus me with a scissors (which is literally dangerous for me sometimes -- on June 7th I cut myself with a pair of scissors because of the above mentioned hand tremor things, and it was not fun and also a little embarassing. Getting old sucks, but the alternative is worse, so, life goes on.)
Can you please let me know what portion is unclear, or what specific questions you have? On the flip side, if the scenario I have already described related to Accommodative AI is already something that makes you uneasy, no one is going to fault you for sitting out this event. Not every event is for everyone; everyone has to find where there happiness is.
The comment about 'whatever you say is art is art' relates to jerkfaces who will comment that a particular thing isn't art or shouldn't be considered art -- and has a lot to do with a presentation that occurred at Oxonmoot where pieces of fanart were displayed and the person running the panel made fun of the art for things such as, how an Ent looked and how they should be depicted, or particular styles or cultural representation found in art that made a lot of people feel bad about their interpretations. It also relates to things like, you painted a rock? That's art. You doodled on a napkin? That's art. You made a sandcastle version of Gondolin and took a photo? That's art. That statement was part of our rules before we added in the AI addendum (found below for reference).
PS -- Another option for this year for you might be to join the Discord, watch the event, and decide from the way it runs and what occurs whether or not you're comfortable to join in next year. We don't gatekeep our Discord; we welcome anyone who participates and anyone just interested in knowing more to join it and interact.
AI Content Information
Generative AI is not allowed for the complete creation of written works, end of story.
AI tools may be permitted for creation of elements that assist in the writing of the final product. Example: Using an AI generator to help come up with a title, or a AI tool to create a map of a neighborhood used in the worldbuilding for the story. If you are uncertain, please connect with Zhie. (Zhie checks the Discord frequently, but you can also send a message to the event email and ask to speak to Zhie about AI.)
Generative AI is not allowed for the direct creation of art in most of the galleries.  Generative AI used as the end result of a piece of art is permitted only for the In Memoriam gallery, but must be labeled as such. It still counts as a submission from whomever asked for it to be submitted, however, per copyright law, this type of art cannot be copyrighted and the person who submitted it is not the creator of the work, the tool is.  This means the tool used to generate the art must be included as the author, with a link to the tool which was used.
Use of generative AI as a starting point for art maybe permitted.  An artist must make significant contribution to the finished art for it to be permitted in galleries other than the In Memoriam gallery. Example: An artist uses AI to generate a particular pose, then uses this as reference to create a new piece of art so that someone's legs don't go flippity floppity the wrong way. If you are unsure, please connect with Zhie.
Use of accommodative AI tools is usually permitted.  These are instances when a tool is used to supplement the creative process.  Examples include, but are not limited to, an AI removal tool in a design program, or use of machine-aided technology to produce items which will be further manipulated to create the final piece. If unsure, please connect with Zhie.
Zhie is the final authority on AI decisions.  Please do not poke at other mods if you don't like Zhie's answer.  There is a good chance Zhie will send Finrod to bite you (and not in a super fun way).
If at any time we are asked to remove a piece of AI generated art due to copyright infringement, we will comply with current laws and regulations.

Heya
Aaah it made me so happy to see another one of your beautiful creations
I know I told you before but you're legit a reason why I taught myself how to embroider so I can make things like this 😅
I just wanted to ask, do you use a cricut cutter for the letters? Cause I remember you said it's vinyl?
I bought some sheets recently for a bookbinding project and found that it's very hard to cut it nicely by hand but those machines are expensive 😅
Hope you have a wonderful end of the year and if you're celebrating anything, I hope you have a beautiful celebration
💚
Hello my darling Ty! I'm so sorry for the super late response, but I hope you're having the most wonderful New Year! You're so very sweet 💖
And in answer to your question, yes I use iron-on vinyl and a cricut machine to do all my lettering. When the cricut machine cuts it, it's actually a very shallow cut that only goes through the vinyl itself and not the attached backing so that may be where the problem is. I know the machines are expensive and I was lucky enough to get one as a Christmas gift from my family.
Embroidering the lettering isn't impossible, just not my own prefered method since I'm usually stitched out by the time I get to that part. You could potentially try using a fabric marker or a fine sharpie to write it in by hand? I would suggest typing/writing out your line first on separate paper to make sure it's exactly the way you want it, then use some method of backlighting (like a sunny window or a tablet/computer screen) to trace the line directly onto the cloth of the piece. I hope that makes sense 😅
I'm would love to see anything you come up with if you ever feel comfortable sharing and I'll do my best to help should you ever need it 💖
