Windows Users Hit by Major Outage After Crowdstrike Update: ‘Blue Screen of Death’ Strikes

Windows 10 users globally are experiencing significant outages due to a new Crowdstrike update, causing PCs to become stuck on the recovery screen. Reports indicate that this issue has resulted in widespread disruptions at airports, companies, banks, and government offices worldwide.

Users on social media have shared images of their screens stuck on the recovery page, displaying the message, “It looks like Windows didn’t load correctly. If you’d like to restart and try again, choose Restart my PC below.”

Crowdstrike has acknowledged the issue on a recent support page, stating that the recent crashes on Windows are related to problems with the Falcon sensor. “CrowdStrike is aware of reports of crashes on Windows hosts related to the Falcon Sensor,” the company noted.

Hey thanks CrowdStrike for your latest update - my corporate laptop is now bricked!

The unofficial workaround to removing the faulty agent/probe only works if you:

A) Know your Bitlocker key (which corporate users usually don’t know)

B) Have a full administrators account that works in SafeMode - which 95% of corporate users don’t have.

If both are true, then you execute the following:

1. Boot Windows into Safe Mode or WRE.

2. Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike

3. Locate and delete file matching "C-00000291*.sys"

4. Boot normally.

Okay so the whole Crowdstrike thing is kind of funny….

…until you’re stranded in a foreign country because your flight back home has been cancelled, you’ve had an autistic meltdown that lasted an hour because it’s potentially fucked up your weekend with your friends back home, your dad has been trying to find a new flight and has had your mum on the phone who in turn has managed to find a flight but it’s at 6:00 in the next morning and has a 4 nearly 5 hour lay over for a connecting flight so you’re now stranded in a foreign airport for over 12 hours, meaning you are now spending a total of over 18 hours in various airports, you’re exhausted but you can’t sleep, you’re miserable and anxiety ridden because there’s a possibility of more delays and cancellations to further screw up something you’ve planned for months and have been super excited about for when you get home.

But yeah go on Tumblr, it’s funny, until you’re in the middle of it.
