Why did it take me so long to see Monkey Man?! Delightful!! And surprisingly queer!! Very relevant and really fun to watch, I thought it kicked ass.

Seriously, this movie rules: it's got great cinematography, class war, strength training at a trans commune, mutual aid, monkey masks, and Dev Patel stabs a man with his teeth! IT WAS FUN

There's this one part where the camera is momentarily 1st person as Monkey Man is jumping down a flight of stairs kicking a guy, but then as he's fighting another guy the camera gets knocked OUT of 1st person and back into 3rd person and it happens so organically and fluidly I was floored

Finally finished my latest passion project - a zine aaaall about the different ape movies that came out in 2024! I think anyone who knows me will not be surprised I decided this topic was worth making a zine about lol

This was super different from the zines I usually make and was definitely a fun departure from the norm - hope u enjoy reading and perhaps get inspired to check out some of these films (especially if the film you're inspired to check out is better man. please watch better man. monkey man too obviously but better man needs the win right now)

And if you really enjoy reading, I'm gonna be dropping a link to download a printable version on itchio, if you fancy being able to print off and fold one of these bad boys at home. You can carry it around in your pocket for moral support or something!

Just watched Monkey Man and I can't recall the last time I've seen an action movie that was that overtly political. Like, it's set in India (the movie is in American/Canadian coproduction) and so it's somewhat distanced from the NorthAmerican context, but it's still very much a movie with a major plot point of the hero organizing an army of Hijras to murder the shit out of the chief of police, a corrupt conservative religious leader, and a bunch of transparent stand-ins for the BJP.

Also, it's really good.

My thoughts on Wicked

Elphaba is impossible to miss. She's new and exciting and obviously different — there's clear parallels to queer and racial voices in her character. She is, very clearly, an Other.

That's why she cares so much about the Animals, isn't it? She's an Other, just like them!

They are not the same, though. Not by any means.

The Animals had high status, once. They founded universities, they taught, they preached their beliefs to Oz – just like regular people. They didn't have to claw their way up from the bottom, like Elphaba did.

Then they lost that status. Something changed, something made them like everyone else.

I would argue that it made them Jewish.

We were comfortable, once.

We had high-status jobs, full rights and citizenship; we were people, just like you.

And someone came into power who realized the public's need for an Enemy.

And we were forbidden our jobs

And we were forbidden our voices

And we were rounded up

And the world chose not to remember.

And now so many care for Elphaba, who is championed in the fandom as one who cares for the plight of the Animals of Oz, who is just like them. (It's not like anyone actually talks about the Animals, though.)

Elphaba and the Animals are not the same.

At the end of the day, one of us is a (green) person.

And one of us... well, one of us is a Rat.

The August Bundle!

Honestly, this month started to put promising until I stopped having ideas on what to draw really. Until I watched A New Wish, and it somewhat led me to want to draw up more ideas. So, I drew more, but I'll post it later on. Maybe tonight or maybe tomorrow, maybe the end of next month, idk.

I've started using Milanote to gather the details of the story together and as someone that likes organizing things in a very specific way its AWESOME. Like for character outfits, I pulled pics from pinterest from the character pinboards (bc I don't organize my pinterest for AUs, working with its features are frustrating for me sometimes) and characters they're inspired by and I'm having so much fun looking for these references.

Looking for references of cyber / neon punk cities is kind of frustrating though because most of the top results are AI slop but I guess I shouldn't have any qualms with taking it for references

ANYway this game will not be coming out any time soon. I plan to take my time to build the story and my skills (animation, programming and game design, etc) before I even begin something with the scale I'm imagining.

That being said, I don't have any issue with sharing my thoughts in relation to story elements because nothing is set in stone so enjoy my disjointed musings about the story + St Chroma lyrics LOL
