  About Jeremy Sole
Jeremy Sole’s upbringing was seeped in the rich Chicago history of Blues, Jazz, Disco, Salsa and Soul – and he reveled in that space where they all blend together. As a teenager, Sole threw loft parties that were a culture clash during the birth of Hip Hop and House music. His obsession grew to include music from every corner of the world and, in 2001, Sole moved to LA. With a broad musical palette, he felt right at home in the spiciest melting pot in the country. In April 2006, Sole was in the studio working with Ms. Lauryn Hill. After hearing him mix, she asked if he had ever considered getting into radio, “…because this is the music the people need to hear”. Months later, KCRW called to ask him that same question, and since then you can hear him Wednesdays from 12-3am on 89.9FM and KCRW.com. https://www.instagram.com/jeremysole/ https://www.kcrw.com/music/shows/jeremy-sole
About Glenn Red Known primarily for his work as half of Santa Monica’s legendary Afro Funké Sound System and one-third of beloved Afro-Latin deejay/producer collective, La Junta, GLENN RED quietly continues to forge a loyal following among fans of eclectic music, steadily rocking crowds in the city’s most respected venues alongside the finest selectors and musicians from around the world. With the honest music of passionate artists as a common thread, his deejay sets weave fluidly through time and across genres, connecting the traditional sounds of Africa and the Americas with their modern expressions around the globe. Afrobeat, Cumbia, Rumba, and Samba rhythms embrace Funk, Soul, Hip-Hop, and Reggae, as Glenn’s rhythmic and multifaceted sound echoes the deep, colorful, and spirited energy of LA and its soulful people. https://glennred.com  http://www.instagram.com/glennzenn10

He has played with numerous reputable groups including Ballet Folclórico Do Brasil, Sona Sané, Abalayé, Mila Samba School, Inu Olorun, Debbie Allen Dance Company, Les Amazones, and Viver Brasil. Kahlil honed his rhythmic gifts with noted teachers including Mestre Amen Santo, Jose Ricardo Sousa, Kobla Ladzekpo, Esteban “Cha Cha” Bacallao (Ibae), and Sandy Perez. His studies in Guinea, Brazil and Cuba have helped to widely broaden his knowledge and musical strength. However, he is most profoundly influenced by West African master drummer Mamady Keita, with whom he has studied since the age of 13. Kahlil is the founder of Extra Ancestral which began in 2017 as an ensemble that aims to educate audiences through the fusions of hypnotic Afrobeat, Reggae, Jazz, Afro-Latin, and traditional African diasporic rhythms, narrated by powerful ancestral dancing. Some hcs and snippets For Hot Glenn Holidays
(there's an idea for each prompt of the week)
----
Sweets and Baking:
Glenn likes spicy hot cocoa and coffee. It never occurred to him to look up a proper recipe for it, so usually he tossed a few drops of hot sauce in the beverage of choice and called it a day.
He does this with ready-made cookie dough as well. Both Darryl and Ron were appalled by this info but Henry seemed excited to ramble about some related family recipes.
Fun in the Snow (Post S2 AU):
It snows in hell all year so snow ball fights are pretty common. His favorite ones are yearly though when--most of the family (including Hermie) are wrangled into participating (compared to dragging over unsuspecting demons in the area). He also has an ice rink set up down there and is a DJ for it.
Caroling (Teen High School Band AU):
As the school's band teacher, he's always excited about performing with his students during the local parade. Its a performance mix of instruments and holiday tunes. One part rock 'n roll and the other being a mix of anime and traditional stuff. The anime music is courtesy of his grandson Taylor, also in the band. One of his old Glenn Close trio band mates always drives the truck for their float and of course the whole thing has protective guard rails on it. A few students and himself sit in chairs within big cardboard present boxes with no bottoms or tops. During certain cues in the songs, they are supposed to stand up to pop out of the box and then sit back down. Its a big hit with crowds and the candy canes others hand out seal the deal too. Little candy bags that even have coupons to local shops inside too.
Caroling and Saint Nicky:
Back when Morgan was still alive, she'd work some pretty long shifts sometimes. It was rarely around Christmas, but if it was, Glenn and Nick would do some caroling around the neighborhood and surprise her with a holiday serenade when she got back.
Present Wrapping (cw self harm):
Glenn's gotten into the bad habit of scratching his wrists to chase away the phantom feeling of cuffs and chains. He should stop but its easier to try and keep it a secret instead. Until he's at Darryl's holiday party and the sight of Jesus strapped to the cross makes his stomach flip. And he's off to the kitchen to get away from it all, wrists stinging as his nails-- But...with the sound of footsteps, he realizes Ron followed. The shorter man doesn't call out the obvious or ask any related questions to the red marks peaking out from under his baggy ugly christmas sweater. Instead, his friend asks him something else: "Can you try this ribbon on for me?" He doesn't remember if he even said yes or 'mhm' but the soft feeling of the present ribbon is nice. The thin fabric is warm from Ron's hands, tied loosely so Glenn could slip out of it at any time. He lets go of the breath he was holding, flexes his fingers, and stares at the pink ribbon now around one wrist "This looks dumb."
Ron doesn't hold back his little laugh at all and pats his shoulder. "Sure does. How does it feel though?" It was a thinly veiled 'How do you feel?' that Glenn decided to answer. Maybe because they were alone or because Ron was willing to laugh at him instead of assure him. Or a bit of both...
Glenn felt himself smirk and say a tired but honest, "A little better."
Christmas in the Sand:
Before the divorce, Bill used to take the family to the beach at least once a year. It was to have fun and make some business while he was down there. Getting a hotel at the beach was a lot cheaper in winter too. He'd often wake up earlier than his wife and son each morning to go browse the boardwalk. Again, there was money to be made with talks and setting up new gigs or busking.
But, regardless of the deals, his favorite part was waking up little Glenny and showing him the bag of trinkets he bought or traded for that day. The three also played out in the sand. Mostly Christine and Glenn burying a napping Bill in the sand. Christine wasn't one to laugh much except when looking at her sand mermaid husband snoozing away. Both were awake to play with their kid in the waves later on too. Glenn and Morgan took Nick to the beach as well, but they all tended to wander the city instead of play in the sand most of the time. It was so hard to get sand out of everything when they did go over there. Also having to convince their son not to munch on said sand was a whole other challenge! Still a lot of fun though and so many great pictures too.
Trees and Ornaments:
Since that blunt existed in the close family mail box regardless of the timeline shift, lets go with the thought that some other misc. items stayed behind too. Like a few worn family pictures from old vacations mentioned above. Glenn has a giant Christmas tree set up in hell and the beach day photo with Morgan by his side, an arm around his waist, and Nick on his shoulders always goes at the top instead of a star or other ornament.

Andrew Forell 2023 End of Year
Tumblr media
Robert Forster, photo by Stephen Booth
2023 buzzed by in a whirl of too much work and music. So many records and so many missed. I kept going down rabbit holes of genre and artists, chasing and never quite hauling in all the things I wanted to, or felt I should, listen to. In the end, music being so difficult to rank, here, in alphabetical order are the records I spent most time with a bunch of others I’ve been recommending to anyone who would listen.
The Feelies – Some Kinda Love (Bar/None)
2023 has been a good year for guitar music.  New albums from Teenage Tom Petties, The Reds, Pinks and Purples, The Drin, The Tubs and The Murder Capital have been on high rotation here. So why a 2018 live tribute to a band who broke up in 1973 by a group in their fifth decade? First, these are songs are from The Velvet Underground, and second, simply, The Feelies. Joined by Richard Barone and Joey Maestro from The Bongos, they rip through a set that features the “hits” and some lesser-known songs with affection but not awe. Glenn Mercer and Bill Million’s guitars thrum in the style we are accustomed to, while Stanley Demeski, Dave Weckerman and Brenda Sauter provide rhythmic support which adds a dynamic swing to songs like “There She Goes Again,” “Head Held High” and “I’m Waiting For the Man.”  Some Kinda Love is a pure dopamine hit of great songs played by a brilliant band. Joy and fun in equal measure.
Robert Forster – The Candle and the Flame (Tapete)
youtube
On The Candle and the Flame Robert Forster produces some of the most emotionally direct and effecting songs of his career. Recorded in the shadow of his wife, Karen Bäumer’s diagnosis of, and treatment for ovarian cancer, Forster writes with grace about family, friendship, love and the past. The only song written in direct response to the illness “She’s A Fighter” contains only six words but the propulsive tension of the music expresses everything Forster doesn’t attempt to say. It’s an extraordinarily powerful performance, a cathartic blast, and for me, one of the songs of the year. “Tender Years,, “The Roads” and “When I Was A Young Man”  are also up there. As I said in my review “few (songwriters) imbue the quotidian joys of domestic life and the power of memory with such poetry.”
Iceboy Violet – Not a Dream But a Controlled Explosion (Fixed Abode)
youtube
On their self-produced album Not a Dream But A Controlled Explosion Iceboy Violet mixes rap, grime and swathes of liminal ambience into an emotionally purgative chronicle of identity, desire and fantasy which flows with a dreamlike intensity. Over deep pulses of sub-bass, taiko influenced percussion and concrete noise, their voice shifts in and out of focus, here a background whisper, there an urgent Northern accented boom. The music, like the vocals, is in constant flux, slipping between hard club beats and eerie ambience. At just 17 minutes, the eight tracks here stay with you for far longer.
The Inward Circles – Before We Lie Down in Darknesse (Stone Corbel Press)
Scottish composer Richard Skelton manipulates a six second fragment of Baroque recorder music taken from the run-out groove of a battered 50-year-old vinyl recording into haunted soundscapes that to tap into something primordial and elemental within layers built like geological strata. This is music to lose yourself in. Obsidian and glacial, Skelton’s work captures and preserves trace elements of melody and rhythm so imperceptible that you feel as much as hear them. Before We Lie Down in Darkness is a beautiful, timeless voyage andhas often eased me from insomniac anxiety to sleep in the last few months.
King Vision Ultra – Shook World (hosted by Algiers)
Using musical stems from Algiers’ Shook, found sound and collaborations with artists including ELUCID, Matana Roberts, DJ Haram, Dis Fig and Bigg Jus, King Vision Ultra’s self-styled mixtape is a companion piece and conversation with its source rather than a remix. A shifting  sound collage that explores and interrogates race, class, gentrification, violence, love and community, Shook World digs into the core of New York City. Recordings of subway announcements, overheard conversations and confrontations lend a bracing realism and more than once Shook World  has merged with the noise and incident of daily trips on the 1 train. A brilliant, often disorientating and abrasive sound portrait of NYC from some of its most interesting musicians.
Kofi Flexxx – Flowers in the Dark (Native Rebel)
Native Rebel founder Shabaka Hutchings has been in the vanguard of the English jazz scene with his bands Sons of Kemet, Shabaka & The Ancestors and The Comet Is Coming and as a cross-genre collaborator with artists on three continents. Posited as a “creative principle” rather than a band, Kofi Flexxx, Hutchings acts as guide and producer. Flowers in the Dark is anchored by pianist Alex Hawkins, flautist Ross Harris and a dynamite rhythm section of bassist Daisy George and drummer Jas Kayser. Backing guest vocalists including rappers billy woods and ELUCID, singers Siyabonga Mthembu from South Africa and Tamil born Ganavye and poet Anthony Joseph on album highlight “By Now (Accused of Magic)”, the quartet provide a fulcrum that draws together the strands of black music into sinuous unity. The instrumental tracks  are equally good. “It Was All a Dream” has the rhythmic power of Sons Of Kemet with Hawkins’ percussive piano and George’s bass bounding along ahead of a wall of horns and Harris flying above them while managing to find a gritty rasp the bottom end of the flute. “Fire” is a bluesy spiritual jazz with George and Harris both prominent. An album that exemplifies Hutchings’ holistic approach to music.
Seablite – Lemon Lights (Mt St Mtn)
youtube
San Francisco band Seablite’s second album Lemon Lights delves deeper into their love for 1990s English sounds. The quartet of vocalist/guitarist Lauren Matsui, vocalist/bassist Galine Tumasyan (bass), guitarist Jen Mundy and drummer Andy Pastalaniec channel the lush end of 1990s British indie. Ride guitarist Mark Gardener mastered Lemon Lights and the result is an album of shoegaze adjacent songs which incorporate the jangling sound of Seablite’s Bay Area contemporaries. It’s a deeply satisfying combination elevated by vocal harmonies, serpentine bass lines and Pastalaniec’s driving percussion. Lead single “Melancholy Molly” has the rollicking rhythm of Ride’s “Leave Them All Behind” overlaid with Matsui and Tumasyan’s lush harmonies and the twin guitars sparking from the mix. The sound is dense but melodic, allowing the guitars to chime and shimmer than rather fuzz and the  melancholic edge to tracks like “Pot of Boiling Water” and the dreamy closer “Orbiting My Sleep” make Lemon Lights resonate.
Sinaïve – Répétition (Antimatière)
youtube
When Sinaïve released Répétition in April, I had a cursory listen, filed it away and promptly forgot about it for several weeks. My mistake. On second listen, their combination of Gallic cool, psychedelic pyrotechnics, VU drone and the distant echoes of Ye-Ye and the French underground was irresistible. The Strasbourg trio - Calvin Keller on vocals/guitar/keys, Alicia Lovich drums /vocals/organ and bassist Alaoui O - make a wholly satisfying racket. On the 11 plus minutes of “Citadelle/Bis Repetita”, Sinaïve ride Lovich’s robotic rockabilly beat and Alaoui’s throbbing bass though a suite that sounds among other things like “Ghost Rider”, “Sister Ray” and Love at their wiggiest before Keller’s freight train riffs entangle themselves as if on a lock groove. It’s a terrific piece of sonic détournement. “Les Diaboliques” finds Keller crooning over a squalling guitar and molasses bass line before guest singer Raphaëlle Albane enters, an earthbound angel amidst the feedback. Albane appears again on “Cela ne Fait que Commencer” to close the album duetting with Keller over a quiet pulsing beat, organ and strummed guitar.
99Letters – Makafushigi (Disciples)
Osaka producer Takahiro Kinoshita’s Makafushigi (Mystery Tape)is built on samples of the instruments and vocal styles used in Japanese Imperial Court music. As 99Letters, Kinoshita fuses these ancient sounds with modern electronic music in ways that are as malevolent as the demons of mythology and as sinister as the organized crime and ultranationalism in contemporary Japan. The tracks on Makafushigi are washed in a seamy mix of grit and clamor, a grim, grimy world of back alleys, dingy bars and low-tech manufacturing. On discovering this I went on to a deep dive into 99Letters’ back catalogue and emerged when Kinoshita put out his most recent album Zigoku on Phantom Limb in November. He is the artist I’ve been most thrilled to discover this year.
The Others:
Algiers – Shook (Matador

jaimie branch – Fly or Die Fly or Die Fly or Die ((world war)) (International Anthem)

-Didn’t see live, but was in the vicinity or interacted-
I was at a record signing for the Pretenders at Licorice Pizza at La Cumbre Mall in Santa Barbara and met the band when I was 10 months old or so. I don’t remember it, but Chrissie said I was going to be a drummer. I guess I was banging on the table.
Should have been at the Where The Streets Have No Name video shoot, but U2 started early thanks to the LAPD and I missed it by an hour. People were still hanging out at the corner in downtown LA when I got there. Eventually got around to seeing U2.
I had an email exchange with Brian Kehew of The Moog Cookbook sometime around 1999.
I camped at the next campsite over from Gyl Bonus, guitar player for The B Foundation. I haven’t seen them live, but I hear it’s a great show.
I had a ticket to see Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes with Fu Manchu in Irvine in 2000, but Jimmy cancelled the tour. Technically, I have seen both bands, so this should not be in this section.
Was invited to the recording of the live section of the “Enemies” EP by Frank Jordan, but I had to work my shift at Kmart. I should have gone.
A friend offered to give me his ticket and could have made it to the last half of a Pearl Jam concert in Irvine, but was too lazy. I should have gone.
Back to Santa Barbara, Bob Marley & the Wailers played a concert and I was in the same city at the same time but I was 3 months old or some shit. I wish I could have gone and been capable of enjoying it.
I was in close proximity to Johnny Halliday and his wife when they arrived at LAX a few years ago. Johnny was known as the “French Elvis”. There was a good amount of paparazzi, so I may be in the background of a picture in a French tabloid.
Met the band Spacetrucker at the Sky Valley sign on their tour which included Stoned and Dusted the next day. They gave me a free copy of their first album and the whole experience was amazing and magical.
Have been the presence of Dandy Brown, Jesika Von Rabbit and Lee Joseph in Palm Springs, and Arthur Seay at the Sky Valley sign.
I am friends with the drummer of Overwhelming Colorfast, of which Weezer once opened for, and who opened for The Ramones.
I am considered family by extremely close family friends of which one was the drummer for Out Vile Jelly and Idaho, and also made some great songs under the name twodoggarage.

can i get some interactions within the gang please,,? i'm starving for content and ur ramvles r my everything <3
ABSOLUTELY YOU CAN <3
all sfw!! just some cute shit between <3 <3 the gang
tw : driving, cars - brief mentions of car crashes.
OKAY SO SMTH THATS BEEN POSITIVELY ROCKING MY BRAIN THIS WEEK HAS BEEN THE IDEA OF,,
TEAM ROADTRIP??
FOR A MISSION?? FOR NO SPECIFIC REASON?? GOD I JUST WANT THESE CLOWNS TRAPPED IN A CAR FOR A WEEK, ON THE VERGE OF KILLING EACH OTHER <3 I HAVE NO EXCUSE I JUST THINK THIS WOULD BE SO CUTE
IM BREAKING THIS DOWN INTO SECTIONS BC IM FERAL.
-
VROOM VROOM
Good drivers!
Glenn! Responsible father! Good driver!!
Reagan!! got her license as young as she could. She was already driving herself a lot of places before she was licensed, bc her parents weren’t reliable enough to bring her places.
Fine drivers
Surprisingly?? Myc is like?? a decent driver?? sure he gets distracted sometimes and will run a few red lights but there are no fatalities so,, that honestly better than some ppl.
Gigi hates driving. so much. it’s so mind numbing. She can drive fine, she just hates it sdms.
Don’t let them behind the wheel please god
Brett : SUCH AN ANXIOUS DRIVER. he looks 3: the entire time. merging onto traffic involves a lot of nervous grimacing smdns. He would much rather be the DJ than be in front of the wheel. If he wasn’t so nervous he’d be very good!!
Andre : he,, is never sober. Just,,, no. smndsd he is not even considered (which he prefers,
‘Drive? What a ridiculous question - I’m the most advanced being ever created, and you’re asking me if I can drive?” (Robotus gets distracted and rear-ends someone. Sulks for the rest of the day.)
-
They agree on the ‘driver picks the music’ rule, because otherwise the entire roadtrip would be arguing about what music to put on. Unsurprisingly, they end up with certain.. Pair Ups?
Brett always takes shotgun when Glenn drives, bc they both Unironically Love Country Music. Everyone else is in pain.
Myc and Robotus at the front = Two Wine Aunts Gossiping. Myc gets dibs on the music and they both just,, complain. Make snarky comments about other drivers.
Surprisingly calm considering,, usually Myc torments Robotus when they’re in Cognito? Who knows maybe the Fresh Air gives Myc A Single Fuck To Give About Getting Along With Others. Or its because Robotus isn’t in his tube, and can now smack Myc if he pisses him off. the world will never know.
Myc and Andre is,, not allowed bc Andre is gonna give Myc a stupid idea and depending on his mood Myc just go ‘hell yea’ and swerve the car-
Andre and Gigi is,, A Gaggle Of Teens On Their Way Back From A Concert. That is to say, shout-screaming songs until everyone else in the car is either joining in, or deaf. Amazing pair for the afternoon to get everyone’s energy up.
Reagan + Brett = naptime. Usually they take the night-shift for driving bc,, Reagan is nocturnal and Brett never runs outta energy. Even if it isn’t, the ambience in the car gets so peaceful that everything just,, melts away. Reagan is quietly nodding her head to the music, Brett is staring out the window, maybe doing little dance moves during The Good Parts of The Songs. Overall, just very sweet. (if its during the day, its practically the same except Reagan Cusses Out Stupid Drivers At Random Intervals MSNDDS)
OK SOME MISC STUFF
Brett already knows everyone’s favorite snacks, so when they stop for gas he’s in charge of grabbing food!!
Myc and Robotus are,, not allowed to leave the car for obvious reasons. :( they don’t wanna need to mindwipe a bunch of people just bc Myc wanted to flirt with the gas station attendant. Anyone else who decided to stay in the car will receive their Commentary on all the passersby.
Robotus pretends to be miserable but he’s gonna be the first one to go ‘!!!!’ when they drive past Historical Monuments smdns. he secretly appreciates them bringing him,, being allowed out of Cognito is a nice reward.
Brett says ‘dog’ when they pass a dog. Eventually everyone is doing it <3 Myc purposefully yells out the wrong animal.
Reagan absolutely tampers with the car to make it need less fuel.
SORRY THIS WAS SUPER LONG,, I JUST LOVE THIS TROPE SO MUCH <3 SMNDSMD

“Bucky Barnes aka “The White Wolf”, at The Met Gala sporting an outfit from the Maison VALENTINO Pink PP Collection for Fall 2022. Sam Wilson, aka Captain America, was seen in a black Gucci tux, and later in a Tom Ford tux. Both suits had a subtle nod to his uniform: a pair of wings hand embroidered on the back of the black jackets, in black silk thread. Other celebrity sightings included…”
Ayo turns and looks at Shuri. “This Met Gala outfit. Ingcuka Emhlope is dressed like he’s going to an NBA Playoff game, sitting court-side between E-40 and DJ Khaled.”
“It’s Piccioli for Valentino Fall 2022,” Okoye says, looking at the large monitor, scanning the crowd in the background. “I saw the show online. One of our War Dogs walked the runway. He placed a couple of cameras in the room. For…Security purposes, of course.”
“Of course, General.” Shuri giggles, “Let me know when you plan to go to New York. I want that jacket for when I’m visiting San Francisco and Oakland. It’s always cold there. Especially in the summer.
Anyway, Bucky mentioned the Gala, so I sent him some fashion links.” She smiles broadly, “I didn’t think he was looking for Looks! Quite impressive ‘fit, though.
Wait…no way!! Look!!!”
She pulls up a picture of Bucky, on the Red Carpet, next to actress Glenn Close, who was also wearing hot pink Valentino.
Shuri picks up her chirping cellphone and starts laughing.
“He sent me a text: I don’t know who this woman is, but she wanted me to be her escort tonight…to get close to Sam!”
Ayo shakes her head and tries not to smile at the notion of the White Wolf as Sam Wilson’s wingman. “I hope the Queen doesn’t see th—“
They all hear her before they see her:
“SHURI!?? Why is Mahlubandile dressed like a rapper at the Met Gala. Is this your doing?”
[Ayo, snapping to attention and whispering to herself] “Bast asikhusele…”
********After The Gala********
{“Hey, Mthandi!”}
“Hi, Kitten. I haven’t been this exhausted since…I can’t remember. I have someone here eager to talk to you—“
“Sarah Wilson? Glenn Close here!
First, please tell me you’re saying Yes when this adorable man Pops The Question. Oh, my! He’s actually blushing! Haven’t seen a man do that in years! As for me, I’ve got my eye on Captain America over there. Bucky tells me he’s your brother? We’ll talk, you and I.
Anyway! Bucky and I met at the Gala tonight. We were both wearing Valentino!! He showed me photos of you and your adorable sons. You should have been here! Both of you in Valentino would have been stunning! Hopefully you two can attend together next year.”
Sarah’s head almost feels like it’s spinning. The woman on the phone is talking so fast she can’t get a word in. Did she say Glenn Close??
“I wanted to say, next time I’m in New Orleans, I’d like to charter your boat for an afternoon on the water, and reserve your restaurant for dinner in the evening. Just a few friends. Dear Bucky gave me your card. You’ll be hearing from my assistant. I’ll give him back to you now! I’m looking forward to meeting you! Bye!
Okay, I’ve got to run. My people are over there waiting. It was so nice to meet you both! I’ll be in touch! Thank you dear. Oh, my! That arm is quite solid. Good night!!”
“Good night, ma’am! Kitten? You still there? I’m on my way back to my room.”
{“James, what just happened? Glenn Close wants to charter the boat and book the restaurant—? First, back up. Why on Earth are you dressed like it’s NBA All-Star Weekend? Baby…you look like Drake.”}
“Drake? I don’t know who that is…but you should see what Sam wanted me to wear. I swear, I would’ve looked like one of the chorus girls in Steve’s Captain America USO show. All…sparkly. Covered with some kind of crystals? Showoffski Crystals? I don’t know. Baby, it was a lot. Hold on…”
While waiting, Sarah scrolls through photos and articles about the Gala on her laptop, and hears the post-Gala conversation taking place on the phone:
(“Ayyyyyy, man! Aren’t you Captain America’s partner?”)
“Hi! Yeah, not partners. We’re co-work—“
(“You’re Bucky! Saw you in the Smithsonian. Never thought I’d actually meet you! Yeah! Look at you! That ‘fit is hella-tight, man!”)
“Yeah, that’s me. Actually it’s quite loose. Very comfortable despite the color...”
(Nah, I mean you look good, man! That’s that Valentino ‘fit, right? My Girl and I were lookin’ at pictures from Fashion Week and NBA All-Star Weekend. That’s the color, though!!”)
“Yes it is. Thanks! Hey, I’m sorry, I have to head up to my room. The dressers are waiting to get these clothes back, and the Team has a de-brief…”
(“Nah, man it’s cool, you’re off the clock. Me, too. It’s time to kick back. Just wanted to say you lookin’ good up in here, and Thank you for your Service, man. My gramps served in WW2. Pacific Theater.”)
“Thank you and your grandfather. You have a good night!
Baby…that’s been happening all night. I cannot wait to get home. I thought being on Team Cap was intense on a mission. This…Gala appearance…thing?”
{“Um…Mthandi?”}
“What…what is it. You have a tone…”
{“At ease, Sargent. Just wanted you to know that you…and that outfit…and Glenn Close? All over the internet.”}
“Great.”
{“There’s more…”}
“Of course there is. Do I want to know in this elevator…or in the hotel room after everyone is gone. Kitten? Sarah? Why are you laughing?”
{“The two of you actually look cute together! All color coordinated! And she’s giving you serious Heart Eyes! Uh-oh. James…according to reports, there’s already speculation that you…”}
“That I, what?”
{“…you and Ms. Close…”}
“What…”
{“…are seeing each other!”}
‘WHAT?!?”
{“And that’s why you were both wearing the same designer and color!!
James, am I gonna have to fight Glenn Close in the middle of Time Square over you?”}
“Intanda!”
{“I mean, she is closer to your age than I am.”}
“Stop that!”
{[mock sniffling] “I understand if you two have more in common…” [dramatic mock sobs]}
“Aw, baby! You know you’re the only one for me!! I don’t want some fancy actress. I want you. My fancy Boat Captain. I want you. Right now, desperately.”
{“Desperately? Mthandi…”}
“Yes, desperately. As in, as soon as I get out of this outfit, I’m heading back to Avengers Tower, going straight to fleet, getting on a QuinJet, and having Vision bring me home.”
{“You don’t have to do that—“}
“Yes, I do. I’ll be home in a few. Don’t wait up. Just be there.”
{“I will.”}
‘Ndiyakuthanda, Intanda.”
{“I love you, too. Oh! Mthandi?”}
“Yes?”
{“Are they letting you keep that jacket?”}

Damn 5 whole followers 🥵🥵
Jkjk- it's time for more ranting abt Inside Job cause nooone else in my life watches it so I'm stuck with my myself and I 😔😔
The Gang(tm) throwing Brett a surprise party ,,,
IMAGINE IT THO
Brett for sure had some sucky birthdays, actuall ass of a time birthdays
So imagine it's Brett's birthday, idk if the crew would be the type to pull the "let's ignore Brett and pretend we don't care it's his birthday then surprise him" cause that would prob give him another complex
So instead they genuinely have no clue it's his birthday, and he doesn't bring it up cause he's just so used to dissapointment at this time in his life
Mayb Regan reads it in a file, maybe Myc reads his mind on accident or heck maybe he does let it slip that it's his birthday but he really downplays it "it's fine! Just another day in the year, yknow?"
But NO. That's un acceptable. Reagan IMMEDIATELY pulls the team (minus Brett) into a strategy meeting. She's had one too many sad/failed birthdays to let her friend willingly go party-less this year
I wanna say Gigi is on decorations, you KNOW she has an eye for that shit but I'd give that role to Andre (or maybe they collab)
He's the party animal, he knows what partying looks like and can adapt any room (think Tom Haverford) he's on lights and uhhh
It is at this point that I must admit to my audience that I don't go to parties. Ever. Anyway <3
•Andre (and maybe Gigi) on setup. •Gigi makes a plan to keep Brett distracted throughout the day. •Myc needs to decipher was Brett wants for his birthday. Either by digging through his thoughts or just by asking straight out and almost blowing their cover lmaoo. •Glenn is doing heavy lifting, physically heavy lifting. Putting up speakers, moving shit off desks, moving tables (btw they're either parting in the main office or in Reagans lab maybe) also fuk u, Glenn is the DJ, he has good music taste •Reagan is simply the head of operation (and the wallet of the operation) she just want to see her friend be happy. Gigi=shopping. Cake, drinks, she pulls a caterer out of her ass- she's doing this correctly or not at all
Hijinks absolutely ensue, nothing goes to plan. Someone drops the cake, Myc can't get a read on what Brett wants and is complaining about having to spend so much time with him (bonus points if the only thing he wanted was to spend time with his work family) Gigi and Andre can't decide on a theme. The caterer dies, shit is hitting fan
I'm too dumb and tired to come up with a good resolution but they cobble together a party, Reagan catches Brett right before he's supposed to leave and is like
"I'm so sorry, can you stay and help me with an assignment? It's an emergency"
And Brett being Brett agrees to help and he 🥺 he gets led into the office/lab and everyone there says surprise and Andre launches off one of those massive annoying confetti canons. Ppl are dressed up
Brett 100% stands in shock and just starts crying but dw they are the happiest of happy tears
Everyone hugs b/c I SAID SO and they party >:)
Here's miscellaneous stuff
They ended up getting him like 4 boxes of Legos, idk much abt men or adults but they seem to like Legos
The cake was dropped at some point so the frosting is smeared and omg. The cake decorator spelled his name wrong- that's my favoutie cliche gag every single show has ever done, spelling someone's name slightly wrong on a banner or whatever
"It says Happy Birthday Brent?? 👁👁??"
The punch bowl is not safe from Andre and the Gang knew that so the one sitting at the snack bar is a decoy (its water with red food colouring)

L’Rain DJ Set Review: Vans Channel 66, 2/16
Tumblr media
BY JORDAN MAINZER
It’s a unique opportunity to hear an artist like L’Rain’s Taja Cheek talk about her work and do a DJ set. The Brooklyn multi-instrumentalist, composer, and singer-songwriter makes music that goes beyond eclecticism; it seamlessly combines bits and pieces from different genres into a singular vision that belies pastiche. L’Rain’s sophomore album Fatigue, released last year via Mexican Summer to much deserved critical acclaim, dove in and out of R&B, dance music, jazz, and wiry punk. Yesterday on Vans Channel 66, Cheek joined Pitchfork’s Listening Room series and host Elia Einhorn to both talk about her work and spin some tunes. In explaining how she builds her songs, she revealed that they start with a melody or a chord progression, usually written on keyboard, and blossom from there. A self-described “hoarder of sound,” Cheek shared that she layers various recordings, samples of the world around her, to ultimately piece together her songs. Sometimes, it’ll take an hour to finish one; other times, it’ll take a decade. For Cheek, sounds are the strongest trigger of memory, and in a way, her pieces are just as much conversations with herself as with her listeners.
When an artist like Cheek selects what to play, I’m left wondering whether her choices are music that’s influenced her, music she simply likes, or perhaps both. Nevertheless, the ambiguity simply adds to L’Rain’s awe-inducing wondrousness. Though Cheek doesn’t necessarily explicitly call upon forebears in her music, it makes sense that she’d find creative kinship in artists that do. Her selection of The Durutti Column’s Otis Redding and Tracy Chapman-sampling “Otis”, a classic of guitar-based dance music of the late 80′s, was thusly fitting. Elsewhere, she chose the warm and welcoming tones of Beverly Glenn-Copeland’s “Ever New”, the breezy hip hop electronica of Shygirl’s “Cleo”, and the Coby Fey-featuring “So I Can See You” from Tone, a south London singer-songwriter whose relationship to genre is as elusive as L’Rain’s.
To me, the track that got me most excited was Eartheater’s arpeggio synth banger “Supersoaker”. In the first fourth of the show, Pitchfork features editor Ryan Dombal and staff writer Alphonse Pierre shared new songs they’d been digging, and one of Pierre’s cuts was Yung Kayo’s “iPic” from his new album DFTK, an album on which none other than Eartheater guests. The connection was probably coincidence, but it got me hoping not just for L’Rain to feature on a rap album but for the general further widening of her expanse. Though Cheek is firmly a leader of a broad Brooklyn experimental music scene that contains the likes of Grammy Award nominee Arooj Aftab (Cheek’s neighbor), her potential reach seems limitless.
