§ Dazai likes physical contact, and he also likes to tease; but he's a really understanding and loving partner once he starts a relationship with someone he loves too (Though it will take him a pretty long time to admit that he has real feeling for you but that's another story), so he won't be on the teasing part too much. Emphasis on "Too much". He will still tease you, brush his hand against yours when walking next to each other and eventually get a hold of it, surprising you with a light peck on your cheek especially if you're in public and rests his hand on your shoulder, all to see how your cheeks rose in light pink and of course, because he loves the feeling of your skin against his.

§ He won't force you into anything or suddenly throw himself on you (although he will get there eventually, that's inevitable lol); he starts from small, simple touches and takes his time, preparing you step by step until you fully get used to him touching you affectionately, and then he'll start touching you in his own ways hehe~ (stopping here, gonna keep this SFW)

§ Dazai is huge on kisses- He'll kiss you on the cheek while throwing some cheesy pick up line or a tatty compliment your way, planting small, wet kisses on your neck with his arms wrapped around you from behind in the morning when you're making breakfast for him, pepper kissing your face when you're all snuggled against him in bed at night; he'll leave you with no option other than to adapt to his touchy attitude because this man cannot keep his hands off you for a mere second, and also because you do like it, despite quivering every time he lays a hand on you.

§ Loves to see you struggle when you want to give him a kiss as well, but this feels all new and you still find it hard to express your love for him through affectional gestures. The expression you wear whenever he catches you off guard with a kiss or perhaps a surprise hug has him walking on air, because you are so cute and he can never ever get enough of you. He has mixed feelings because although he wants you to get used to his touch, he also loves the affect he has on you. Don't even get me started on the shivers.

The documents you were working on were complicated, wordy and required a lot of concentration; but you were dazed ever since you woke up that day, and your boyfriend's lips on your ear shell were not exactly "helping".

"Mhm... Why did you stop typing, Bella? I hope I'm not distracting you from your work"

Did he actually mean it? Well, you had doubts about that.

"You kinda are right now, Osamu.

Dazai let out a deep breath and smiled when you shivered as your skin warmed up, lips brushing against the crook of your neck and getting pleased when he felt you bating your breath.

"Why is that, baby? I'm just minding my own business right now"

What was his business? To distract you from your work, or to get you all tempted? It didn't really matter; because either way, he was going to get what he wanted.

"Maybe you should take a break and cuddle with me. I've heard that cuddling with your boyfriend can really help you ease your mind and relax"

This was the exact kind of stuff he would deceive Kunikida to fill up his notebook with, but in your case, it was mostly true. You could never deny how warm you felt when he was around, nervous but the kind that would make your heart flutter as his fingers traced down your skin.

"Yeah... Maybe I should"

Dazai smiled when you turned around and cupped his face to pull him closer, feeling deeply satisfied; not because of the fact that he won again, but because he got to feel your soft, warm lips against his.

↳Chuuya Nakahara

§ Chuuya is an extremely understanding partner as well. Given that his love language is acts of service, he might not realize it at first sight, but after a while he'll get a clue. No matter how much you've let your guard down, gasping and literally jumping in your seat when he places a hand on your shoulder is not a normal reaction.

§ He's the type of guy to blame himself for things that ae not even his fault, and this also happens in this case. Maybe it's because you don't want him to touch you, maybe he makes you uncomfortable and a thousand of maybes and doubts fill his head and make him insecure about the whole situation. He gets a bit distance at first, to give you the space you want to yourself; a space where he assumes he doesn't belong to.

§ It eventually hits him after a while, and makes him sad. Why aren't you used to doting touches? Because you didn't get them much. As your boyfriend, he feels responsible; so he showers you with love and compliment, and perhaps a loving kiss on your forehead or a possessive grip around your waist when you're out in public.

§ Chuuya starts teasing you once he feels that you've gotten used to his soft touches; not as much as Dazai would but still, since he loves to fluster you and he's only human (Or maybe not, but we're not here to talk about that). He won't do PDA since the risk of his enemies targeting you is high, but when you're alone in his office, you're not allowed to sit anywhere else other than your special spot, his lap. Having his arm wrapped around you while he's doing paperwork has become a habit of yours. Whenever you enter the room you automatically head to his chair and make yourself comfortable on his lap, where you'll always be welcomed; even when he has so much work to do.

§ Sleeping in the same bed is pointless unless you're in his embrace, right? His arms will be wide open for you to bask yourself in the warmth of his chest, to feel safe and secure because he will protect you, no matter what.

A nice night in winter should starts with a tasty meal, a cup of hot cocoa and end with your head on your boyfriend's lap when he's sitting in front of the fire place; although that part wasn't exactly planned by you.

It's pleasant to feel Chuuya's bare hands once in a while, delicately tracing down your cheeks to your neck. An comfortable silence is present in the room because you're both too drowned in your thoughts; Him thinking about how soft your skin is, like a new born baby, and you thinking about how much you don't want this to end, given how hard you're trying to prevent yourself from dozing off.

It's a battle between you and him, to see if you can keep up when his fingertips are so gentle, tenderly drawing meaningless patterns on your skin, your hair or wherever they can reach. After a few minutes you finally give in, drifting to wonderland, defeated by Chuuya's love and care. In the middle of your sleep you can feel his arms getting wrapped around you to carry you to bed, smiling softly when you feel his figure next to you, planting a small kiss on your forehead.

Everything feels so new, but with him by your side, you've got nothing to be afraid of.

not because of you two, you two were perfect. he was anything a girl could ever asked for in a man.

kind-hearted. spoiled you like hell, and knew how to love you in all of the right ways.

the problem was the fact you both worked for long-term rivaling organizations. this was years of hatred between its leaders and it wasn’t something that could be reversed overnight.

so the both of you found a workaround.

trying to find time in between work days and missions to meet up and spend some time together.

going on dates in public is incredibly risky since everyone knew about you being in the port mafia and dazai being in the armed detective agency.

word spreads like wildfire—so it was best that you both had these moments together in the comfort of your own homes.

these escapades had been a huge breach of trust from both sides, but the both of you didn’t care. you both loved each other, and love conquers all. right?

“dazai—mmm—i have to go…”

he pulls away from your lips, and a dejected look on his face arises. the time that both of you could have together is extremely limited due to your busy schedules. trying to squeeze in quality time has been difficult especially when trouble has been lurking on the streets of yokohama for weeks.

“what is it now?” dazai said, slightly annoyed but a hint of concern laced in his voice.

“mori needs me. he says it’s important.” you started to fix your clothes, and got up to grab your jacket. you heard a small groan slip from dazai’s mouth.

“you sure you can’t stay just a little longer, darling? i haven’t been able to get you alone all week.” he grabbed your hand and pulled you back down on the bed. you frowned. he sounded so upset.

“i can’t ‘samu. you know how he gets, and he doesn’t like waiting.”

“i know that. i’m sure you could come up with some type of excuse as to why you’re a little late, right?” his words take more of a seductive tone as his hand starts to trail down your arm, and both of his hands snake around your waist. you almost start to melt into his touch before realizing what is going on. “dazai—i can’t. i have to go.”

you pull him in for one last kiss, his lips seemingly never wanting to leave yours. you also place one more on his forehead before slipping from his touch and darting out the front door thinking you had already spent too much time with him than usual. he sighed deeply knowing you wouldn’t get another moment like this for a while.

being from two different agencies makes dazai worry a lot sometimes.

he knows you’re more than capable of handling your own, you were literally one of the strongest port mafia members.

nonetheless, he couldn’t help but resent mori for putting you in life endangering missions.

what if one of those times you don’t come back alive?

he wasn’t exactly prepared for the moment he would learn that you were dead because of “unfortunate circumstances.” he couldn’t handle losing someone else that he had to learn to love and care about. not again.

this leads to him being slightly overprotective. sometimes blowing up your phone and asking where you are at, wanting to send someone to keep an eye on you so he can make sure you’re safe at all times.

god forbid that you don’t answer your phone after telling him you’re going on a mission.

sometimes it could be overbearing but you’ve kind of accepted that this is the life you signed up for. you were already constantly under surveillance by mori so being watched by your boyfriend wasn’t something that bothered you anyways.

plus it keeps him sane knowing he could swoop in and save you in any moment the situation is taking a turn.

trying to keep things a secret from the port mafia is actually incredibly difficult.

you were quite impressed with yourself until tachihara caught you text dazai during a meeting.

tachihara wasn’t a snitch by any means, so he minded his business and didn’t confront you about it until after the meeting.

he approached you and asked what was the deal with dazai. you tried to act coy, dismissing the idea. on the inside, you were freaking out. you couldn’t risk one of your biggest fears becoming a reality.

he quickly reassured you that he wouldn’t tell and lightheartedly said he knew how to keep secrets. he had noticed you being a little more distracted sometimes and looking at your phone a bit too much.

you remarked that you were extremely relieved. you didn’t give him the entire rundown of what the situation was between you and dazai but you told him enough that would help him understand.

same thing in dazai’s end, but he’s a master of manipulation and gaslighting. not even saying this as a joke, he would legitimately gaslight any member of the ada into thinking they were crazy that he was in cahoots with anyone—let alone someone from the port mafia.

plus, as much as he cared about them, this was for their good. because if they found out about anything, they would make it their mission to end things and he wasn’t thinking about doing that any time soon.

you are quite literally the reason he lives. he believes you’re too pure and naive for this washed out cruel world. you showed him kindness even after finding out his deepest flaws. he can’t let you be with anyone else, you’re his, his only. he knows he can’t kill your friends or your family but he can sure as hell threaten and blackmail them. he’s a selfish man, only wanting you to show him your feelings and your sweetness. he pulls you out of any communication with anyone and everyone. why are you talking to other people when he’s there? he’s the only one meant to be there for you. you’re his beloved, he’s not going to lose another person he genuinely cares about.

Edogawa Ranpo :

sutookaa-gata (すとーかーがた) - stalker type

he’s not the world’s greatest detective for no reason. he smiles as he finds out where you are with his super deduction. you can’t hide anything from him, he’ll find out everything. you pique his interest to the max and he wants to know every single little thing about you. when you aren’t around him, he can’t help but find out where you are. he’ll casually bring up your previous whereabouts the next time you guys meet. you’re confused, remembering that you never told him but he simply tells you that he used his “ability.” he’s not scared of telling you of his deduction since both you and him know that you’ll never be able to get away.

Atsushi Nakajima :

jishou-gata (自傷型) - self-harm type

coming from a rough and complicated childhood meant that he wasn’t shown love or compassion. when he met you, he saw how you pampered him and how you treated him with so much love. as much as he hates it, he loves how you patch him up and coo at him when he gets hurt. when he’s on missions, he just coincidentally cuts himself every time. he can’t help but blush at your worried face and soft words. if it means that you’ll take care of him, a few bruises and cuts don’t bother him. he just craves your soft touch and treatment. after a while, you always try your best to be with him so he won’t get hurt as much. he truly is in love with you and your protective nature.

Doppo Kunikida :

choukyou-gata (調教型) - training type

he needs you to meet all of his 58 criteria. he wants you to live by his standards, shaping you into the perfect darling. he has authority over you and he’s not afraid to use it. despite this, he’s a bit confused on why he’s like this, on why he wants you to be his interpretation of perfection rather than let you be your own person. he treats you more like a doll or a dog rather than his significant other. don’t ever bring it up though, unless you want a punishment for breaking his criteria. he loves you, just not how defiant you are against him. he thinks of marrying you, further preparing you for marriage and your life together.

Kenji Miyazawa ( platonic ) :

mugai-gata (無害型) - harmless type

he’s so kind to you, always treating you like royalty. i don’t think he would even realize he had some possessive thoughts over you. even if he does realize, he wouldn’t hurt you. you’re too important for him to lay a finger on you. he just wants you to be happy alongside him. forcing you into things would never be his forte. he watches over you, making sure nothing bad happens. nothing that you do can make him snap, he’s always there for you. he’s probably the safest yandere on this list, not wanting to cause you any harm, physically or emotionally. even in hard circumstances, he would never take it out on you. you’re too special.

Jun’ ichiro Tanizaki :

mousou-gata (妄想型) - delusion type

his illusions of you fill him up with so much joy. even if you’re not his partner, he’s so delusional with his visions, craving you even further. whenever you’re not around him, he’ll imagine you with him so he can pass the time. despite him trying to hide his delusion, he’ll slip up when he mentions things you do for him in his illusions that you actually haven’t done. he’ll try to play it off but doesn’t do a very good job at it. even then, he won’t stop with his light snow. he’s just so obsessed with you and can’t help but always imagine you alongside him. if his love for you overflows, he’ll straight up tell you about his fantasies, wanting you to accept him.

Kyōka Izumi ( platonic ) :

hogo-gata (保護型) - protective type

after seeing her parents die in front of her, she can’t risk your safety. she cares deeply about you and will protect you at any cost. despite this, she won’t use demon snow to protect you in fear that demon snow will kill you like she killed her mom. probably the second safest yandere since she doesn’t want to hurt you. you’re her best friend, the most precious person in her life. if anything happens to you, she wouldn’t let you be near her, blaming herself for not being able to protect you. she’ll maybe even go as far as teaching you self-defense. she won’t see another person she cares about die in front of her eyes.

Yosano Akiko :

DV-gata (DV型) - domestic violence type

your relationship with her is a whole rollercoaster. she’ll randomly cut you with a scalpel only for her to heal you with her ability. she has fun with you by breaking you and fixing you up again. if you cry to her, she’ll dismiss it, firing back that she always patches you up. you’re normally a victim of her abuse. like any other person, she gets stressed out and decides to take it out on you. even if she’s mad afterward, she’ll patch you up. yosano doesn’t want you to have an infection or any bruises. you wouldn’t be able to tell anyone due to her ability. but even then, she cares about you, just in her own twisted way.

Naomi Tanizaki :

shuuchaku-gata (執着型) - obsession type

like brother, like sister. she’s heavily obsessed on you. she’s drunk on the thoughts of you. she wants to know everything about you ranging from your favorite color to the color of your undergarments. she always wants to be with you, coddling you as her own. you’re hers and she’s yours. she’ll follow you around constantly, clinging to your side. she gets jealous easily, feeling possessive over you, her beloved darling. she just loves you so much, gladly taking a bullet for you. as long as you’re her significant other, there’s no shred of alone time for you. there’s no way she’s going to let go of you now. not ever.

They were busy for quite a long time and didn't pay attention to their s/o (close to ignoring). When they got free, they really, really wanted attention from their s/o, but she was offended and did not pay attention to them, going about her business (reading, drawing, watching a movie, etc.). Fyodor can get very immersed in a task

So him not paying you any attention - even ignoring you when you're in the room or talking with him - isn't all that uncommon

You hate every time it happens, but usually it just takes a few days, then he'll spoil you (no doubt to shut up your complains)

However, it's been two weeks now and in order to distract yourself you had picked up some new hobbies you had been interested in trying for a while

Imagine your surprise when Fedya finally comes out of his office to just silently stand a few metres away from you, simply watching you do

However, he realises quickly that you aren't even acknowledging his presence

So he'll start by sweet talking you after standing in your silence for well over ten minutes (he honestly just wants to cuddle. As much as he pretends that it isn't the case, he is actually pretty touch-starved)

But you don't reply

His fingers twitch

He wants so desperately to ignore you, or be cruel until you break and fling yourself into his arms begging for affection

But he is smart enough to realise that this wouldn't work - that this might even make everything worse

So he sighs and sits down behind you, hands carressing your shoulder and the top of your head and asking you "Myshka, I know I was quite neglectful. Would you still tell me of what you are doing?"

He doesn't apologise, and he barely even acknowledges that he's done something wrong, but his soft voice and gentle touch is enough to make you realise that he is sorry and that at the end of the day he needs you as much as you need him

He's also one that might ignore you if work gets too much

However, he doesn't get so immersed that he won't notice you

He might snap at you, I'm sorry 🥺

And, while he will (most likely) not target any of your insecurities, he will make jabs at you that make you shut up and shun him until he's in a better mood

Usually, he comes to apologise a few hours later, pout on his lips and stretching his arms out for you to cuddle into his embrace

However, this mission is a whole lot more complicated and he's blown you off several times already

So in the end you decided it would be better to do your own thing for a while

When he is finally done, he doesn't even realise that he had blown you off for an entire week instead of only one day as usual

He has his usual pout on his lips and is waiting for his hug

He frowns when you don't even seem to notice him

He coughs, but you don't even flinch

That's when he starts coming closer, pressing sweet kisses to your neck and apologising after every one, though if you look closely, you can see that his eyes are calculating

He knows exactly what he has to do to get you back into his arms

Honestly the least toxic out of the three

His office is away from your apartment, so he's essentially just doing a lot of overtime over the week

He had already warned you about it, but now that it was actually happening, you couldn't help but miss him

That's why you visited him every day, bringing him food and at least pressing a kiss to his cheek

You always tried to get him to take a break - at least for five minutes - but he never budged

Also! Unlike the others he actually acknowledges your presence

He won't be able to hold a conversation though

He does try to answer you whenever you speak, but you can always tell that he isn't quite listening

Unfortunetely, right when he had finished his week of horror, you had to go into overtime for your work as well

However, he made short shrift of it

Such a hypocrite

Won't take a break himself, but forces you to take one

Yosano's not having a good time

So this started as a scene idea that basically turned into a mini fanfic. It's still worded more like an idea than a fanfic though.

The premise started with Mori offering to treat Dazai after the events of the current arc since he needs very skilled medical help, and Yosano stepping in and basically telling him to fuck off because Dazai is her patient and to get his grimy little hands away from him. It spirals on from there.

Also despite how some things are worded, in this story Mori didn't molest Yosano or Dazai as kids or anything like some fanfics or headcanons have him do. Just the general abuse we see in canon and some medical abuse with Dazai.

1. Damage

After Dazai is freed from Mersault, he's unconscious on a medical table and in need of serious immediate medical attention, but the procedure to help him needs a professional.

Mori offers to treat Dazai, until Yosano appears with a look of absolute murder in her eyes, grabbing his wrist before he can even touch Dazai. She tells Mori that he won't be touching him. Dazai is her patient and she is his doctor, as it is with all of the agency members, and she will be the one to treat him.

Mori tells her that Dazai has injuries so severe and complicated that only a truly experienced doctor could have a chance of bringing him back to a stable condition. He says she can try if she's confident, or if she's fine with bringing Dazai back to her agency as a mindless living pile of flesh.

Yosano holds her ground and doesn't flinch, still looking at him as if she were ready to kill if he didn't back away in the next minute. She affirms that she is confident in her abilities, and has spent years studying in a field that he himself abandoned years ago.

Mori calmly backs away, and Yosano stands between him and Dazai until he's left the room. Her skin is crawling where she touched him and she wants to curl up and scream, but she has a job to do and a patient to save, so she ignores it and gets to work.

After hours of surgery Yosano sits next to Dazai. It was difficult, more difficult from the fact that she had to do the surgery in an unfamiliar room and not her usual infirmary (Dazai needed immediate attention, so once they got him she had to use the closest medical room they could find). His heart is beating at least. She's exhausted, but can't bring herself to sleep or leave the room until she's stayed with Dazai long enough to make sure he's OK. And that eeriness and Fear that Mori might come back if she leaves or sleeps won't leave her. Even after they're able to transport Dazai back to the agency infirmary, she stays with him.

Yosano knows how Mori affected Dazai. Of course she does. They spilled their guts to eachother once, then never mentioned it again, but their general relationship became better after they understood eachother. Yosano had tried to never think about it since then, but after Mori offered to 'help' Dazai alarm bells went off and she wanted to protect Dazai like she wanted to protect her younger self.

She also knew that if they had let Mori operate on Dazai, even if it all turned out well, he would never trust the agency the same again. He would rather do a lot of things than be Mori's patient again, than to be left alone in a vulnerable state around that man, than to have his life and body in that man's hands.

To add onto this, maybe this is all taking place with Fukuzawa dead, and Yosano not making it to him before he died. So the Agency is already in a vulnerable position right now, and Yosano is already in an awful state but is trying SO hard and basically forcing herself to hold it together. She just lost her father and is dealing with the guilt believing she failed to save him, her brother is a wreck (not an outburst type of grief, but a quiter moving like a ghost type grief), she had to interact with, argue with and even made physical contact with the man who stole her childhood from her, and she's just been through hours of a risky surgery that she's not even 100% sure went successfully. She's practically praying that Dazai makes it out of this ok, because even if they weren’t too close, if she loses anyone else and is responsible for it she's going to break. It's not fair to Dazai, but her mental state is basically riding on whether or not he comes out of this alive and conscious.

She stays with him for days. Atsushi tries to stay for as long as he can too, but there's still work to deal with in the aftermath of the battle. After Dazai's surgery Yosano was given time to rest, but she just used that time to keep monitoring him.

2. Unofficial member

Sigma is not an official member of the agency, as there's been no time for an entrance exam and Kunikida is still just trying to focus on keeping the Agency together and going. He has however been working with the Agency since the end of the battle. Obviously it took them all a while to trust him considering who he was, but he'd told them crucial information twice that helped them end the battle (information on the page, and information on Fyodor), and Atsushi vouched for them and offered to help them fit into the Agency like he did with Kyoka. So Sigma is not an official member, but after some time he was able to prove that at least for now the agency could trust him to help them.

Despite his worry over Dazai, for a good while they couldn't see him because Yosano didn't trust them yet to allow them into her infirmary. Sigma was updated regularly on his condition by Atsushi and the other members as they got more used to him, but that antsy feeling that they couldn't believe Dazai was there and OK wouldn't leave them until they could see him.

So on one of the rare moments where Yosano leaves the infirmary, Sigma got her attention. They told her that if she allowed it, they could prove to her that they didn't have bad intentions with their ability. Of course it was a risk to her too, since Sigma could learn whatever he wanted to about Yosano. It was a gamble, and all Sigma could really do was try to show his sincerity to her and hope she'd take the chance. She's cautious. Despite the agency growing to trust him, Yosano has spent barely any time around them. But she sees their sincerity, and grabs their hand tightly. She tells them that if this is a trick, this arm and every other bone in his body gets broken. The threat doesn't sound as harsh with her tired voice and expression, but Sigma understands the severity, and activates his ability for a brief moment.

Yosano learns of how Dazai saved Sigma, and how much Sigma feels indebted to him. Sigma learns again of Dazai's current condition, because that's all their mind has been wanting to know for a while now. Yosano understands now, but she's still cautious. She tells Sigma to follow her and shows them to where Dazai is lying. They sit on the chair next to Dazai's bed, silently watching him, not even daring to touch him. Dazai's here. His heart is still beating and he's alive, and maybe one day soon he'll wake up and Sigma can thank him properly.

From then on Sigma is allowed to see Dazai in the infirmary, but only if Yosano's in the room as well.

3. Relief

After her rest period, Yosano was nervous to leave him, but Atsushi was monitoring him in her stead while she went round to help out any injured or critical condition victims from the outbreak (just in yokohama for the time). Whenever she got back she wouldn't go home. She would stay at the agency and just keep monitoring Dazai. Sometimes his eyes would open, but he'd remain unresponsive, and they'd close soon after. Each time it happened she got a little less hopeful.

After a few weeks, Yosano is in the infirmary while most of the ADA are out. Dazai's eyes open again. And Yosano holds her breath, but isn't too hopeful as this has happened before. Then his pupils move to look at her, then he speaks. It's quiet, and hoarse, but she hears it. He's responsive, he's awake, and he's alive. The surgery was a success.

Yosano's eyes immediately start watering, and then she's sobbing with relief and just rests her head on her hands on Dazai's bed.

Dazai is still drowsy but a little more awake now if only out of confusion of just waking up and then seeing Yosano suddenly start crying next to him.

But he sees her face after she lifts her head up, and despite the fact that she was just sobbing she's also smiling, so Dazai doesn't ask.

Immediately after she's able to calm down enough to talk she explains to Dazai the situation. How he's been unconscious for weeks and the aftermath of the battle and the outbreak. She also tells him, still smiling and with tear stains on her face, that he's lucky he's injured or she'd be kicking his ass over his wrecklessness with Mersault. She let's Dazai take what he needs to in before she tells the agency that he's awake.

Then once she's told him what he needs to and he gives her the OK, she goes out to the office. The rule has always been to leave Yosano's infirmary alone unless she allows you to come in, so she's been able to isolate herself in there for a while. When she steps out everyone's attention is drawn to her. She tells them Dazai is awake. A bunch of them immediately rush from their seats to go see him, and before she let's them in Yosano gives them the rundown on his condition and to not bombard him too much.

Atsushi and some others are out on missions at that point, so she doesn't tell them until they get back so that she doesn't end up distracting them midcase.

Atsushi and Sigma are the last two to come back, both coming back late after a case that took a difficult turn. Both are physically OK, just exhausted.

Before telling him anything, Yosano checks on Atsushi to see how he's doing, to make sure the mission wasn't too hard on him and that he's ready to hear the news. After some talking, Atsushi realises what's off and questions Yosano on why she's out of the infirmary, since she'd usually be keeping watch of Dazai. Yosano smiles at him, and Atsushi immediately understands and races to the infirmary. He barges through the door before Yosano can tell him to be careful and he freezes when he sees Dazai, still lying down, but awake and looking at him. He smiles at him, and Atsushi lunges at him and hugs him (he is so close to sobbing).

Dazai makes a pained noise at the sudden weight and Atsushi immediately panics and gets off him, remembering that Dazai is still in bad condition. Dazai just pulls him down again cause he knows Atsushi needs this, and Atsushi more carefully lays his head half on Dazai's chest, trying not to put to much weight on him. He's Gripping Dazai's hospital shirt and he's just fully sobbing now. Dazai rests his hand on Atsushi's head and strokes his hair and Atsushi tries to talk through his sobbing about how much he missed him and how he thought he wouldn't make it, and how sorry he was that he couldn't get there sooner. Dazai will have a talk with Atsushi later about how it wasn't in any way his fault (and it's kind of ridiculous how he thinks it is considering he was in a different country), but he just let's Atsushi get it out for now.

Sigma stands by the door. They rushed to the infirmary seconds after Atsushi, looking at Yosano first to check if it was OK to see Dazai even without her in the room. She was still sighing but smiling over Atsushi probably giving Dazai a heart attack with how quick he seemed to run into that room, but she waved Sigma to go and he bolted just as fast. When he gets there, he sees Atsushi clinging onto Dazai and sobbing and they suddenly feel like they're intruding on a personal moment they have no right to see.

He's stuck between wanting to give Atsushi space with his mentor, and wanting to go to Dazai too. Dazai notices Sigma, and smiles at him too, and stops petting Atsushi for a moment to wave at Sigma to come over as well. That's really all it takes for them to make up their mind. They slowly make their way over to him and sit down in the opposite chair, heart beating the whole time at a reaching moment they've been waiting for since Dazai pushed them out of the elevator. He doesn't say thank you then. He doesn't speak at all for now. He just sits next to Dazai like he's done for the past few weeks. Until Dazai's free hand reaches out to them. Sigma takes it and just holds on tightly to his hand and his arm. Not tight enough to hurt, but hopefully tight enough for Dazai to feel their gratitude until he can bring himself to speak it.

The three of them just sit there for some time. Atsushi no longer babbling apologies and concerns but still quietly sobbing and gripping onto Dazai, Dazai keeping his hand on his head, and the other hand holding onto Sigma who's still silently gripping him.

So that's the first part! I ended up writing more than I thought I would so I'm splitting it up and wanted to end it here on a good note.

[ ☆ ] we all know that osamu dazai isn't someone who had a peaceful and serene childhood. nor life, for the matter.

[ ☆ ] because of this, he would do anything in his power to make his child's life as calm and... ordinary as possible, though certain circumstances don't fully allow it.

[ ☆ ] the first two complications are his current and previous job: a detective and an ex-m4fi0so. working in these sectors implies a contact with the general public, his figure is quite known among all kinds of people, and working at the armed detective agency is a risky job due to multiple reasons. still, he'd find a way to be a good father while simultaneously be a good detective.

[ ☆ ] talking about his child's ability, at first he had no idea that they had one. certainly, he always had this possibility in mind, but discovering an ability user can be very hard, especially if it isn't something easily recognizable.

[ ☆ ] however, while time passed, casual incidents happened at home or at school.

[ ☆ ] osamu is an observant man, so at some point he realized they could have something to do with everything's destiny. so, testing them (for example, asking them to change a flower's fate), he found out about their power.

[ ☆ ] and, well, it is really an incredible yet dangerous ability. if dazai's enemies discovered it... it would be quite difficult to protect them.

[ ☆ ] but, remember, he'd do anything for his kid. don't ever forget it.

[ ☆ ] anyway, the definition of fate is “the development of events outside a person's control, regarded as predetermined by a supernatural power.”

[ ☆ ] being someone who actually CAN change something of this magnitude, since a young age, is a huge responsability.

[ ☆ ] if they wish to speak or write, their father (dazai) could let them do it by simply touching their skin, however it isn't always a possibility (he can't go to school with them, for example).

[ ☆ ] if their ability is activated also with the sign language, one thing they could do instead of speak/write is drawing what they'd like to express: illustrations can often speak more than words (even if this sentence is a cliché, it contains some truth).

[ ☆ ] by the way, except for osamu, only the other ada members know of their ‘condition’, but they don't really mention it (after all, it's a classified information).

[ ☆ ] anyhow, dazai will try his absolute best to help his child with anything, when he has the possibility (and he would do so even if they didn't have an ability).

[ ☆ ] raising a child would make osamu think about his almost non-existent childhood. because of this, thanks to his kid he would discover his inner child: what are the things he loves and despises? what does he like to do in his free time? what are his favourite books? what's his fav colour?

[ ☆ ] in short, he would start appreciating all the good, little things in life that he didn't allow himself to like back when he was younger.

[ ☆ ] he wasn't used to show affection through physical acts such as hugs and high-fives, however having a child would change this fact. from rarely hugging the people he cares about, he'd become more comfortable in expressing his love (/p).

[ ☆ ] he loves telling stories, so before sleeping he would tell fairytales to his child — some existed, others invented by him. his gentle and adorable way of narrating things is simple enough to understand it since a young age, yet absolutely beautiful to listen to.

[ ☆ ] if his child didn't understand something, of any topic, osamu would immediately explain it to them. even a billion of times, if necessary, and without judging them :).

[ ☆ ] he wouldn't yell. he finds it useless and only humiliating for his kid.

[ ☆ ] if his child did something wrong, he would calmly explain to them why they shouldn't do that thing. he knows that we human beings aren't born learned, so he wouldn't blame his kid.

[ ☆ ] if i'm not mistaken, canonically he isn't good at cooking. nevertheless, he would learn to cook for his child ! he wants to see the big smile plastered on his child's face every time they eat something they like <3.

[ ☆ ] sometimes he wouldn't know what to do, and so he would ask kunikida and/or fukuzawa for some advice.

[ ☆ ] he genuinely cares so, so much about his kid.

[ ☆ ] of course, he has his flaws as every human being. but, he's constantly improving and learning every day how to become a better father ! <3

In the calming atmosphere of the café, Dazai, with his casual demeanor, sips his black coffee while reading his book on suicide. The bell rings lightly at the entrance, revealing the arrival of a mysterious figure. Dazai looks up, intrigued by the presence of this stranger who is about to enter his world.

Y/N, a bit shy, hesitates in front of the counter. Dazai, without revealing himself right away, offers a mischievous smile and invites her to share his table. "You seem to be the mysterious element this café has been waiting for, my dear stranger. May I offer you a seat?"

Y/N, slightly surprised, accepts the invitation, and the conversation begins between these two beings destined to cross paths. Dazai, with his skill with words, elicits sincere laughter from Y/N. Each exchange reveals a little more of each person's complex personalities.

The days pass, and Dazai, fascinated by this enigma named Y/N, frequents the café assiduously. Each encounter adds nuance to the complex web that is their budding connection.

One day, as the sun sets, tinting the sky with warm shades, Dazai, with a touch of sincere emotion, introduces himself more formally. “Forgive me, my dear stranger, I am Osamu Dazai. And you, what is the name that resonates in this mystery that surrounds you?”

-Yes we can all confirm that Dazai is different in that alternate universe.. but if he's the same type of lover? Based on my opinion I would say he's 75% the lover he is in the original alternate universe..

-Would he be touched starved? About this aspect, not entirely.. why you may ask.. it's because Dazai in that alternate universe has somewhat forgotten the hole meaning of affection.. like he's the boss of the port Mafia, of course he thinks affection is unnecessary..

-Honestly Dazai acts like his usual self in the original alternate universe but he also acts like Mori from the original Au as well.. yes I believe that Dazai would be his usual clinging self but has moments where he acts two faced..

-how would Dazai give out affection? In my opinion he's a bit of a mix.. at one moment he surprisingly doesn't give out affection.. then another, he's showcasing his love for you shamelessly.. it's mostly depending on how he's feeling, on how he's recepting and his current thought.. there's time where he would give you affection and times where he would force you to give out affection.. yes, he's all over the place...

-it's not hard to believe that Dazai would be the one controlling the relationship.. not only does he like that thought of superiority but he'd most likely be as a manipulating yandere.. I don't really need to elaborate on why he would be a yandere nor why would Dazai be in charge of the relationship..

-it's well known that Dazai would easily manipulate you in some way to get what he wants.. like a hug, cuddles, embraces, ect.. or he'll do it himself without shame...

-Dazai doesn't need the courage to confess.. because if he truly wants you then you'll be his no matter what.. if you already have feels for him, then lucky you.. If not that's when the manipulation will come in (or he'll simply kidnap you..)

-Dates with Dazai.. he's a bit complicated when it comes to that.. there's moments where the dates are something you enjoy. like walking through a park or something of the sort, then the next is something completely different and unusual.. Surprisingly most places he does take you to, has a very deep meaning or symbolic to what he'll say or what he'll do.. like example he's proposing to you, he'll either take you to the place that the both of you first met or take you to a place where a lot of couples propose in Yokohama..

-despite being the boss of the port Mafia he still hesitant about certain aspect of the relationship.. but he gets over it quicker than usual because he doesn't want to let that slow him down..

-working with the Port Mafia with Dazai, very interesting to Dazai because 1. he can stalk all your activities without any difficulties (not that he had any difficulty if you weren't working for him) 2. he can easily stalk you (not that he would have had a hard time) and 3. he's the boss, meaning he can make you do anything or else, you know the consequences.. so it's really a win-win for him.. He can also make you take breaks whenever he wants you too (most of the time he wants your company with the reasoning he's lonely)

-what does he think about you living with him..? Honestly he preferred if you remained with him because he is a dangerous criminal. Not only that, but the boss of the port Mafia, one of the most dangerous and well known criminal organization in Yokohama.. It's safer to think that you should be in his protective range if you don't want to be harmed

-trying to sleep in the same bed as Dazai, he's honestly all for it because you're his lover... Of course he had fantasized of sleeping in the same bed as you.. it's quite obvious that he's not sleeping during the night.. so he'll either fall asleep because he feels so comfortable around you or he'll stay awake with only the comfort of your body against his own..

-majority of times Dazai would be big spoon.. because 1. He feels a sense of superiority and feels like he's protecting you throughout the night, 2. Easy access and exit, entry of leaving the bedroom 3. easier to leave and enter without waking you up.. there's probably more reasons but those are the ones he could name on the top of his head..

-it doesn't really take much to make Dazai the opposite Spooner.. because he gladly do it on his own time.. he'll most likely do it because he's sick, tired, exhausted, bored, needy, unwell, lazy, sacred, sad, frustrated.. shall I go on? Because Dazai will either cling onto you like an emotional baby or he'll cling onto you with satisfaction or he will cling onto you frustrated.. so take your pick..

-The affection Dazai adores.. is whatever cute affection you offer.. like hugs, kisses, embraces, hand holding, arm hooking, cuddles, quality time together, ect.. especially if you act very adorable while doing so.. (because heck he will coo you like Mori does with Elise when you do cute stuff like that)

-Dazai jealous.. I'm assuming someone's being too friendly, as in flirting.. So he'll either prove to this person that he is more important to you or he'll kill them because they were talking to his darling that way.. (scratch that, he'll torture them before he kills them..)

-if you think very lowly of yourself? It's best you don't vocalize it.. because it's not going to go well.. trust me..

-Dazai can't cook.. because if you know his backstory you would question if he knows how to cook for himself.. because heck he eats from the cafe, canned crabs and alcohol.. and you think he knows how to cook? No he wouldn't improve his cooking.. but he'll try to at least cook something decent if you're sick or unwell.. his heart goes on cloud 9 when you cook something for him.. so it's best you know how to hide, unless you want to be bothered by his squeals and coos as if he's speaking to a 5 year old for being cute..

Chuuya Nakahara

-honestly Chuuya isn't as different as the originally au.. because he's still the loyal considerate gentleman from the original AU.. not much has actually changed.. except the fact that he respects Dazai a little bit more than the originally AU..

-I would see Chuuya as possibly touched starved, because he didn't really receive an sort of affection that had good intentions behind them (so if you love Chuuya for Chuuya with the best intention, he'll love you just as much) but at the same time, it's most likely that he isn't touched starved because Chuuya's more fixated on having all his loyalty on work and his boss Dazai than on love..

-Chuuya would treat you with the up most respect.. of course he belittles you a lot because he believes he needs to protect you.. but I'm referring to the fact he will listen to your opinion, judgment and needs without question (because he WANTS to make this relationship based on communication rather than arguments)

-how much affection will Chuuya be willing to give out? He give a reasonable amount of affection, but most the affection will be done in private because he values both yours and his own privacy.. but he's all for arm hooking, hand holding, waist holding and maybe a few goodbye kisses in public.. (depending on where he is and who's around, obviously)

-if you're in a relationship with him, Chuuya would be most likely the one in charge since he likes spoiling his s/o in any ways he can (he's not used to, being spoiled himself and he's not used of being taken care of) and he also one to believe that he should be the one providing for you because he thinks you deserve to rest while he deals with the stressful and dirty work.. (because he believes that it would be nice of him to do..)

-I also see him like the type of boyfriend that comes home and needs affection because he had a long day (because he's job is more stressful than it sounds) not only that but he does need to be comforted once in awhile because it sometimes becomes overbearing..

-I believe the only way he was able to ask you out was because someone members of the port mafia were pushing him and the after effects of alcohol.. and also because he wants to get the heartache over with

-Beileve me or not.. but he doesn't care where the date takes place unless they have these big points. 1. He's with you, 2. He's spoiling you 3, More bonding time (yes Chuuya's a Simp when it comes to his lover) but he sometimes bring you too fancy restaurant, just because he can..

-I believe that he would be a bit hesitant with certain aspects of PDA and would rather take this relationship slow for his own comfort.. but once he gets used to it, you can almost give him PDA all the time.. and don't question it when he asked for affection, just give it! or he may prefer to be alone for a good while..

-working with the Port Mafia with Chuuya, honestly he doesn't have much to say on the matter except certain things that are beneficial and things that are not.. like he could easily protect you, keep an eye on you and make sure you take care of yourself with the bonus that you probably know how to defend yourself.. but on the negative side, you risk your life almost every day, you're wanted, you're most likely not as strong as Chuuya so you may be at risk.. but he tried his best not to argue with you.. because you're a person and you deserve to have your own opinions..

-I think he wouldn't exactly mind having you live with him because he loves you and he gets to see you more so it's a win-win for him and he could protect you if needed..

-trying to sleep in the same bed as him, don't get me wrong he loves you but he be very hesitant and flustered by the sudden proposal. But still doesn't after perhaps many opportunities.. unless for a valid reason such as nightmares, you're extremely cold, you're scared, you're sick, you've been for some recent trauma, ect.. (yes, he believes those are valid *not for himself obviously but for you*)

-I would think that most of time Chuuya would be big spoon because it's his way of feel more superior (totally not because of his height) and it gets him a sensation that he's protecting you

-he absolutely loves the feeling of you in his arms. When you're in his arms, he feels like he's protecting you from any harm that comes your way

-there would be times where he would be the small spoon on certain occasion like if he's afraid of losing you he might latch onto you, if he feels sick, if he feels really tired, he had a nightmare or even if he had a rough day and wants to be cooed at

-this boy really likes your praises like when you play with his hair, kiss on the cheek, forward kisses, he will melt into your touch especially if you offer to kiss on the lights.. it may or may not become spicy (especially if he's drunk)

-him jealous while in a relationship, I don't see him at the type to attack people unless they were being inappropriate but I see him as the type that would come up to you. Hold your body while letting his hands wonder a bit, seeming like he's tired and upset.. for you to react worried and practically forget that there was flirter talking to you and focusing all your attention on Chuuya. But it was he's way of proving to your flirter that your loyalty lays with him and then he would glare a little at the flirter once you're looking away.. or Chuuya may wake up and choose of violence which happens 76% of the time..

-if you think very lowly of yourself. he would just honestly tell you what he thinks about you. That he clearly does not think you're worthless or anything like that, while showering you in kisses.. even though he doesn't understand the insecurity, he'll try to change your mind..

-I believe that he's still an excellent chef but he would try and improve even more in hopes to impress you. If you make him something when he gets home, his heart will melt thinking how he's so lucky to have someone as caring as you

Bungou Stray Dogs Dead Apple: “You used corruption, believing in me? How Beautiful.” A “DISSECTION” OF THE SCENE

I mentioned before in one of the posts by @nataliaphantomhivesblog​, where we were discussing about the corruption scenes in BSD, that the scene in Dead Apple is my favorite. So, I decided (like any SKK trash) to make an “analysis” of that scene, just to make a point why I like it the most compared to the other corruption scenes (as if this post is the definition of being productive like I’ll just wasting my time rambling here LOL)

I divided this post into two parts. Part 1 is the more difficult one where I am attempting to write some “character analysis”. While Part 2 is more about how the scene is composed (it’s pretty boring. I’m sorry)

I will NOT include the infamous Lap scene (I know. I know. We all love that moment. But I would rather focus on the scenes before that).

Side note: I do not specialize in film or literary critique, so really this whole post is just for fun. Thus, why I put quotes on the analysis. Take this is as my personal opinion where I’m attempting to make sense by making it sound “fancy”.

But anyway. Here it goes:

In every Corruption scene, the thematic notion is always Trust—as in Chuuya trusts Dazai well enough to use his ability so long as he is present to nullify it. It is a very life-threatening process, especially for Chuuya since Corruption, despite being one of the most powerful abilities, can cause self-destruction the longer he uses it. So, Dazai should keep a close watch on him at all times, and then even giving him a sense of comfort to compensate to Chuuya’s worn-out body and for his efforts. This is the same trajectory in all 5 episodes of Corruption, but out of all of them, what stood out the most (for me) is the scene from Dead Apple. 

This scene has amazed me ever since I first watched the movie. And while it just shows their infinite trust, the whole execution of this scene evokes more than just that thematic concept. What I see in this scene is something that all of us have already witnessed, but there is something unique in the way Dazai nullifies Chuuya’s corruption, and their dialogue may be just them bantering and yet, their tonality is different. It is as if, we just touched a moment that is reserved only for these two and we just happened to have the privilege to witness it. In other words, there is a sort of familiarity (or intimacy) and gentleness going on at this very moment—it is cathartic. This is what I want to look into—like how did we come to this?

PART 1: His Proper Partner.

In the Japanese version, ever since the episode where Chuuya made his first debut, they call themselves “aibou” (相棒), referring to a one-on-one partnership. While “nakama” (仲間)can also refer to a partner, it has a different connotation in which the closest English equivalent of that term would be “comrade” or “acquaintance”. The closest English equivalent of “aibou” is, to no one’s surprise, “partner” (or “pal”). And it makes sense, considering that the first kanji (相) can mean “mutual”, “together”, or “each other”. So, to have Dazai and Chuuya referring to themselves as that, it just manifests their familiarity on each other.

And in their case, their “familiarity” is both their advantage and disadvantage. It is a “disadvantage” because they use it to get on each other’s nerves (both in comedic and serious situations).

However, it also serves to their advantage, especially when they have to cooperate in the battlefield. This comes into light in the Lovecraft Episode where they executed Operation Shame and Toad—Chuuya acknowledges Dazai’s tactical mentality, whereas Dazai (as he referenced Chuuya’s mastery in martial arts) let’s his partner do the grunt work. Interesting enough, this is the same episode we first see Chuuya’s Corruption (but not the first time he uses it).

Using Corruption stipulates that “familiarity”, especially in Dazai’s part who has to be present to monitor Chuuya’s physical state, therefore he is aware, not just the consequence in using Corruption, but also of Chuuya’s limit. This explains why Dazai declares that he is aware of Chuuya’s moves and “breathing pattern”, otherwise, as what he himself says, he “won’t be a proper partner”.

What is witnessed in the Lovecraft Episode is the standard protocol that Soukoku uses when they are at their last resort. So, it is not a surprise that we get to witness Chuuya using Corruption, again, when he saves Dazai in Dead Apple, except it is done differently.

Even though Dazai is ten steps ahead of the enemy, the situation is still risky and even more complicated in Chuuya’s part since he is using his ability WITHOUT Dazai present. And that he has to save Dazai first before he can get it nullified. With that being said, it requires a careful approach, one in which they know the other’s moves—Dazai knows too well how Chuuya would react. For instance, the manga version of Dead Apple demonstrates how Soukoku communicates in their operation using “codes”. As such when Dazai got himself kidnapped, no one knew about his whereabouts until Hirotsu mentions about Dazai buying a microscope (to which it leads them to a dead end). However, Chuuya—upon remembering that Dazai teases that he needs a microscope in order to see him—demands to see that microscope, breaks it, and finds the transmitter. It is a well-planned strategy in Dazai’s part where all it takes is to leave helpful clues for Chuuya to pick up and catalyze the operation. In the Dead Apple movie, he does it again:

Indeed, for the audience, it is not new to see Dazai planning ahead and having ulterior motives behind his actions. It is not new to see Chuuya executing his plans and understands his motives either. But seeing these two working together despite those four years of absence, and without physically communicating is beyond human comprehension. Almost like the microscope scene, Dazai is not there to directly tell him about his plan. Chuuya doesn’t know about the antidote until that punch as his only “clue” is that Dazai is working alone, so he sees that something is amiss.

Seeing the critical state of Yokohama, Chuuya knows that he will use Corruption, but seeing Dazai’s corpse, it gives this uncertainty on whether they can make it out alive or not. And yet, what did Chuuya do? He jumped off the plane and activates his ability, knowing that there is “no time to chicken out” or else Dazai’s plan won’t work, and they’ll end up dead. Even if it means doing the job to protect the city, it still takes guts for Chuuya to work and place his life on someone he “hates”. Despite those 4 years of absence, the scene in Dead Apple just manifests that they never doubt each other’s capabilities. And to further validate this, let’s check out their dialogue:

           Dazai: You used Corruption, believing in me? How beautiful.

           Chuuya: Yeah I did. I believe in your disgusting vitality and craftiness.

           Dazai: That was a somewhat violent way to wake up Snow White.

           Chuuya: Tch. You’re the one who hid an antidote your mouth knowing I would punch you.          

Not only does this scene perfectly parallels to the Lovecraft episode where we see Soukoku bantering while still in a critical situation, it also emphasizes the degree of their trust and how that trust has taken root from their familiarity.

Dazai: You used Corruption, believing in me? How beautiful.

Chuuya: Yeah I did. I believe in your disgusting vitality and craftiness.

Dazai’s first line is the main idea of their partnership, echoing Chuuya’s quote from the Lovecraft episode: “I used Corruption because I trust you”. This is a vital aspect in their relationship since it has been stated before in Fifteen and Stormbringer that “no one has trusted Dazai”… until Chuuya comes into the picture. Ever since their first teamwork against Rimbaud, Dazai finally has someone he can rely on both in strength and assurance, even smiling at the fact that Chuuya doesn’t even deny his proposal but merely asks for his reason.

With that being said, then it is appropriate for Dazai to say that line, touched by the idea that Chuuya still constantly trusts him. It just reminisced so much from what they have as children that it seems to this day, they never forgotten about it.

On the other hand, in Chuuya’s end, he confirms that trust and provides a reason, which is appropriate since Chuuya is Dazai’s “reason-living” like in Fifteen:

Chuuya’s line—“I believe in your disgusting vitality and craftiness”—is very similar in the excerpt from Fifteen, and this just shows how that line from the movie indicates his familiarity to Dazai. By “familiarity”, I mean that he knows his partner’s mental process and motives (as I have mentioned above). In this case, it seems like Chuuya has seen something that he and Dazai have in common: the desire to live. Of course, the latter always craves for death, but with his new viewpoint on Death, his mission in fulfilling Oda’s wish, and the fact that he is tethered to someone who wished to live, Dazai just couldn’t die. And Chuuya, being his constant companion, knows this. This is why Chuuya “believes” that whatever plan Dazai has on mind, it will always work, and in the scenario in Dead Apple it starts by taking a leap into Corruption—which is ironically, the very thing that could kill Chuuya, and by extent, would cause Dazai’s death if the plan is not well-thought or if they don’t work together. By referring to his “vitality and craftiness”, Chuuya is acknowledging his familiarity on Dazai, admitting their “rotten relationship”, and justifying his trust on him.

Dazai: That was a somewhat violent way to wake up Snow White.

Chuuya: Tch. You’re the one who hid an antidote your mouth knowing I would punch you.

Another interesting thing I find in the dialogue is Dazai’s line: “That was a somewhat violent way to wake up Snow White”. Fans think that this is Dazai flirting, where he is implying that he wants to be kissed by Chuuya the same way the prince does to Snow White. For me, I think this little dialogue is more than just fanservice since it makes sense, not only in the context of the movie containing motifs of a “poisoned” apple. I think the reference of the fairytale in this dialogue not only foreshadows his “death”, but it also highlights their dynamic whenever they work together with Dazai acting childish and Chuuya knowing that he is actually being serious (or the fact that he cracks some jokes in most Post-Corruption scenes). This is still related to the whole “familiarity” theme that I have been rambling about; as mentioned before, Dazai and Chuuya would use whatever they know about each other just to rile each other up. These moments are generally meant for comedic effect, but these teasing and bickering can serve as their advantage.

Similar to the microscope scene I have mentioned, Dazai makes that microscope comment seem like a childish joke on the surface, however, Chuuya picks this up as a clue and sees his real motive. This kind of synergy is seen again in the prologue of the movie where Dazai jokes about Chuuya getting hit by bullets when he is in close range of the enemy, and yet, the latter takes it as a warning that an ability-user is nearby. We really don’t know if Dazai leaves a Snow White-related clue for Chuuya before the events in Dead Apple (it would have been pretty cool tho), but that dynamic in the microscope incident and prologue is very similar to that dialogue we see in the movie: Dazai is being playful, but Chuuya sees and calls out his ulterior motives. This is how Soukoku works!

PART 2: The Art of Catharsis

The relationship of Soukoku in the battlefield is one of the best teamwork we have seen in the anime. Both parties are synchronized in the way that Dazai’s brains and No Longer Human, and Chuuya’s fighting skills and Corruption perfectly compliment each other. Moreover, we also see the basis of that partnership, and this is something that the creators want to highlight in this scene (in other words, how did the animators deliver this dynamic?)

In my opinion, I think the words “gentleness” and “cathartic” fit in this scene. To start off, before this moment takes place, we have witnessed Chuuya fighting the Dragon.

That scene was intense! Chuuya activates Corruption, generates into pure destruction with him yelling Dazai’s name (despite the fact that he is not supposed to be in a proper mindset). The way this scene plays out is interesting; in the shot, we see the two main figures (the Dragon and Chuuya) mostly in red—which is a very vibrant color—in contrast to the blue and green background. By using the color that pops out, the attention is on them, and it is topped with the amount of action in that moment. Not to mention, the background music, containing a rock music and a rap, elevates that energy. It is a scene that heightens the adrenaline, so the audience can empathize with Chuuya—understanding him as a character that is full of life, and also his hastiness to kill it before he runs out of time.

When that fight is over, we notice that the music alters into a string orchestra. This is a very good change because the tempo is slower—a direct contrast to the rap music—as if it is slowly bringing the audience down from the hype in the fighting scene the same way Chuuya slowly goes down and hovers Dazai’s body. The music immediately stops right on cue when the punch happens, then the audience is left in silence. Usually in films, silence is used for the purpose of anticipation. In this case, the anticipation is placed on whether Chuuya’s punch and/or the pill worked and saved Dazai.

The transition from the white background into a blue background should indicate that Dazai is alive. And yet, the animators did this subtly rather than showing Dazai’s face (like in Season 1 episode 1), just so the audience is still in the state of anticipation (add that with the white noise in the background). Furthermore, there is a fairytale quality in that shot, like this is similar to when Sleeping Beauty (in this case “Snow White”) wakes up, that’s when the colors in the castle come back.

Getting close to that iconic shot, I love how the animators keep the “camera” in the same place (Chuuya’s face), that way we can further empathize with Chuuya by seeing a close shot of his state: he was at his limit! But as soon as the blood starts moving away from the screen, we can see a bandaged hand moving to his face. And then, finally!

Words cannot describe how much I appreciate the details of that scene, especially on Dazai’s gesture. He moves his hand slowly but quick enough to nullify him right on time. Not to mention, he does not just touch his cheek but rather cups it (look at the shape of his hand!). One can say that the gentleness in Dazai’s gesture is the exact opposite to Chuuya’s punch, and this sort of contrast further highlights the catharsis in this scene. In other words, after all of that intensity with the fight and seeing Chuuya’s bloody state, it is relieving to see that familiar hand touching him, indicating that Chuuya can rest. And seeing that we witnessed and empathize with him, we know what it feels like.

With that being said, that’s why the third shot above where the hand is fully placed on his cheek and he made a short gasp is my personal favorite. It is the contrast in Chuuya’s face where we can still see “Corruption”, and Dazai’s hand to which he activates “No Longer Human”. I have seen some people complaining about how they want to see Dazai’s face in this scene; personally, I think this scene is animated brilliantly as it is. It is only fair to see a close up of Dazai’s hand to indicate that he is nullifying “Corruption”, after all, “No Longer Human” is works through touch. To top it off, the beauty in “not seeing the face” is more powerful because it leaves more to the imagination—we don’t know specifically what kind of face Dazai is making, but the way that hand moves alone is enough to tell us what he is thinking at that moment. And finally, upon contact, we see Chuuya making a slight twitch—this is when Corruption recognizes No Longer Human and deactivates. This is when Chuuya recognizes that familiar touch and knows that his partner is finally awake, so he can finally rest.

Then we have that iconic shot! Like the one I mentioned above, the camera stays in one place, only this time, it is a long shot, so the focus is on them (thus they are on the middle). Interesting enough, there is no background music in this scene, and we can’t see their expressions. Usually, in this anime, when a character is seen faceless, in order to determine what they are thinking are feeling, the animators would usually make them do a gesture or a dialogue.

In this scene, where everything is silent and their faces “unseen”, our focus goes to their exchanges. Both Mamoru and Taniyama use their “bedroom voices”, and I think it is appropriate considering that their dialogue contains a deeper meaning in regards of their relationship. In other words, as mentioned before, it may seem like another day of bantering, but with their tone, there is something sincere and intimate in what they are saying. Also, the playfulness in Dazai’s comment and Chuuya’s response hits different compared to their other moments of constant yelling. You really don’t need the close up of their faces in order to see that they are at peace in each other’s company.

In addition, the color scheme of the scene is predominantly blue, which makes sense, not just because of Dazai’s ability, but also because it highlights the serenity in the scene. The blue color, the orb, and the bandages that glide silently are animated in a way that they buffer out the red that we have seen back with Corruption, and also indicates a sense of “protection” (which is later seen in the lap scene when Dazai has to protect Chuuya from the fog). In short, the ambiance perfectly fits with how Dazai is there to give Chuuya a sense of comfort in Post-Corruption, letting him rest so that he can compensate for all that he did.

The scene in Dead Apple is something that lies in between of the familiar and the new—we have seen Dazai and Chuuya in this situation before, we know how they function as a team, and we know the level of risk they are taking. But this is something that we have never seen before; like subtleness in his gestures, the softness in their tones, and the fact that these two are in a position where they are saving each other, which becomes part of their instincts. They show how much they trust each other by knowing how much they knew of each other. They acknowledge the fact that their fates are tethered regardless of the years of absence. And finally, it is not just the Prince saving Snow White, but rather: the Prince saves Snow White and Snow White saving him in return.

Dazai Osamu in a relationship

Just a lil warning before you proceed: dis a chonky one, kay?

Depending on why Dazai is in a relationship affects how he will act with his partner.

If Dazai is curious about them, enough to enter the relationship,

it will last at best a handful of months, at worst about 2 weeks. Enough to get to know them, test them out in terms of reaction, values, honesty and morality, and get bored of them. Thus leading to him braking up with the person or, if he predicts that the person would react badly and cause a scene, get them to break up with him. But even that is dubious because i doubt Dazai would make the relationship official. He would probably just act as if they're dating, leading the partner to believe they actually are without having to verbally confirm anything, and then as soon as he loses interest, pulls a now-you-see-me-now-you-don't and disappears with little to no notice. Hey, he never said they were dating, he calls everyone Belladona, the fault is that person's for being delusional. Yes, he is an asshole, what did you expect of Dazai?

But if Dazai is in love?? Unrecognizable.

I will make a separate headcanon(? whatever these are I'm writing) on what i think a person should be like to sweep Dazai of his feet, but now i want to concentrate on what he would be like in such a relationship.

Is it possible for Dazai to fall in love? Absolutely. He loved Odasaku and Ango, perhaps not romantically, but he's definitely capable of love. People like him- aware of the world's cruelty, dealing with demons and guilt, roaming the world for the sole reason that they haven't died yet, hoping to find something worthwhile they can feel the need to be selfish about and call theirs; don't fall in love, they crash desperately. It takes a lot for them to feel those emotions, but when they do, they can never really let them go.

He would try to act as he usually does in public and try approaching the subject of his trepidation and disarray in many different ways. Distancing himself and going as far to actively avoid them would just come back and bite him in his boney ass. To effectively avoid someone, you need to know their schedule, hobbies, interests, habits, etc. And having learned that would just constantly remind him of them, they'd never leave his mind. He'd look on the clock, see the time and know that they'll be in that specific class because he knows their whole curriculum and class schedule/ at the grocery because they're surly out of their favourite snack/ doing black laundry and yes, he knows unnecessary details about them as well. After that disastrous failure, he comes back running and commences new ways to handle that person. These beta testings are for him as much as they are for them. Just how much and what exactly does he feel for that person, what buttons can he push and which ones he doesn't want to.

When i say Dazai in love would be unrecognizable, i mean it. Not superficially, where everyone can see it, but where it matters.

After doing his best to rail in the unfamiliar feelings under control, going as far as using some of Mori's techniques, the realization of the situation he's found himself in hits him hard.

He comes back as if nothing happened.

The deadpan that person gives him and a "Are you done with your bullshit or do you need some more time to brood about issues you made with yourself?" He doesn't even blink, "Oh, my Belladona! Does that mean you've missed me? Were you worried about me as well??"

All of this was said in your typical, Dazai maniac style, the only difference is that he actually wants an answer. He wants to hear the confirmation, in whatever form it may come- he can read between the lines and body language, just give him something to work with. He's desperate.

While the public Dazai persona won't change, his inner musings and his approach to the love interest will.

Osamu will, sometimes sneakily, usually not so subtly, immerse himself into their daily life. Get them accustomed and used to his presence. What this will do is cause a sense of familiar coexistence, that of people living together; make the person unconsciously continue to include him in their activities; learn to depend on him (not in a unhealthy, yandere way, but if their car brakes down or they're feelinh unsafe, Dazai will be the first person they feel the urge to call) because Dazai can be reliable and he will be reliable for that special person. He will also be the first person they share good news with as well, because if someone is always there for and with you, it's only natural.

Make no mistakes, Dazai is transparent only when he wants to be.

The reasons he does this is because 1) he wants to gauge their reaction to his great interest in them, 2) mask his subtle advances which are the most important part of integrating himself into their life, 3) to get that person in the position where he needs them to be for him to move on to the next phase of his plan.

Now, i may have said plan, but that's a somewhat loose term since what he'll do next depends on their reaction. He definitely has a rough outline of the whole thing in his head, but he's also adaptable and ready to react accordingly to whatever they may throw his way.

[I will be using l/i or LI for "love interest" bc I'm tired of writing that person or whatever, okay? Good.]

Once his l/i made effort to go out of their way for him or commit any type of love language, basically:

act of service- pay for his bills, massage his shoulders, buy crab based food or alchohol he really likes for their own fridge so that he can have it when he's over (often) even if they don't like those things especially then

words of affirmation- thank you Dazai, how was your sleep?, please take better care of yourself i can't help you if you're not making an effort

physical touch- ruffle his hair, lean on him when tired, hold his hand or wrist because it's crowded and it would be a pain to search for you Dazai

gift giving- "I noticed you were running out of bandages", "I bought you food, figured your lost case would forget to eat", "saw this mackerel, reminded me of you^^" "BELLADONA, NO >:("

quality time- spending nights with him because he has insomnia, playing games at the arcade, drive around town run from the cops

He would be overwhelmed. In the best way possible. He'd feel overwhelmingly good and pleasant and warm and worried.

He didn't feel like this, ever.

Not even with Odasaku and Ango. They were probably his first friends, but that's the thing. They didn't make his heart race, they didn't throw him into panic attacks, they didn't overwhelm him, they didn't keep him up at night because he couldn't get them out of his head or completely monopolise his mind during the day.

He gets panic attacks.

A lot of them, actually. Usually he can fake being fine, but sometimes he hyperventilates and can't breathe and all that he can smell is the blood on his hands and his chest is as hollow as l/i's eyes. He knows what can happen. They can and will be used against him. Hell, it could even be an accident. He is vulnerable just because they exist and he can't do shit about it.

He could do his thing: pull some strings, have them move to another country and never speak to each other ever again. He has the power, but he lacks the strength. He could do it, but he doesn't want to. His thumb won't press the numbers, his voice died out, his mind went blank.

The wind blows and it carries their scent with it. The bells ring and it's their laughter that resonates within. His bandages ruffle and it's the warmth of their touch he feels. He's dying, but he's not just ready yet to leave. Hopefully, Odasaku will patiently keep a seat for him.

That was what gave him away, actually.

That's when Ranpo realised, with zero doubt, that Dazai Osamu is in love.

Dazai could be going on and on about suicide.

Enter l/i.

"I found an amazing tree yesterday with really sturdy branches. I wanted to test them out today, but i promised l/i I'd go to the new bakery with them today and who would they go with if i die?? Unacceptable!"

Ranpo: "A new bakery? I'll happily take your place."

"UNACCEPTABLE!!"

With every panic attack he feels stranded on an island in the sea of death.

He's exhausted. For the first time he finally wants to escape alive. Then they walk in and the storm in the sea moves to his heart. And into his stomach and his hands and his knees.

"I'm here for you, Osamu. Everything is going to be fine."

His insomnia goes by a different name now.

It still keeps him up at night and makes him restless.

But this time, when he fills his nth glass of whiskey for the night, when the TV is muted and the trafic quiet, when he can hear their breathing beside him in their shared bed, he raises the glass to hope for the halcyon days.

Fucking finally. You think you're exhausted, you waste of bandages?? I have a final today I'm going to fail and actually wrote about your musky ass. You try doing that with my brain.

2. Favorite fic(s) of the year! (yours and/or someone else's)

I think my own favourite fics of 2021...

That I've written, is a hard thing? A lot of what I've written has been kind of touched by anxiety one way or another, my own or others'. But that said, because of how much of a continuity it is, I find it hard to say just one part of my "Chuuya is trans, and becomes a dad" AU/s I like. Favourite moments might just be the end of Outbreak of Hostilities, and the "Domestic" story that's in "Spring Winds After Rain, which has Fumiya jumping on the bed, and the three of them acting like a real family together (complete with food-stealing).

For fics by others, I had to go back into my bookmarks - I haven't been keeping up with things as much in the past month or so, but there are a couple that were just really good.

Technically two fics, but "To the one before, to the one after" is beautiful. They capture Dazai so perfectly, and even better than that, they capture just how complicated his relationships with people are, and how people show different sides of themselves depending on how they see you, who they are to you. It explores a potential on Dazai's past (which is funny, considering that anything looking at Dazai's past might potentially be made AU come "The Day I Picked Up Dazai") that I grew to love.

Honourable mention to "Of Stakeouts And Late Nights" which is something I'd often wanted (and still want more of) - Kunikida having to deal with Dazai in all his secrets and ex-mafia-ness before canon and Atsushi and finding out.

It's a shame that he has commitment issues, Dazai muses to himself. Because Odasaku isn't just the best fuck of his life, Odasaku is good to him.

Too good to him.

That's most of the problem. Odasaku will look at him, expression so gentle, so brilliantly sweet and patient and trusting, as if he doesn't think Dazai will rip him apart at the first sign he sees that as necessary. (Still, sometimes Dazai can stand it. Sometimes he even gives into it and the peace that comes with it hurts like a hell he could learn to adore.)

Is this self-sabotage? He doesn't know. And he's still fucking trash for pushing the issue away and ignoring it as he sends Odasaku a text to ask him if he's still not busy tonight.

Odasaku replies within the hour. I'm not, he confirms. Can I come over?

Dazai tries not to laugh, self-deprecatingly amused rather than annoyed at Odasaku's attempt to save him face. He's not that proud, he really isn't. 

He imagines if Odasaku were here, he'd tell Dazai that it has nothing to do with that. That Odasaku really does just want to spend time with him, and that's why during their last encounter, Odasaku casually, lightly mentioned the fact that he was free for the next week. Should they want to do anything. 

It is self-sabotage, Dazai comes to decide. Because no matter what Odasaku's intents were, Odasaku is going to end up in Dazai's bed, because Dazai desires it. And then Dazai won't be able to fool himself into either deciding the reason for this outcome is because Odasaku thinks Dazai knows himself well enough to make the right decision, or that Odasaku wants to give Dazai the choice to make bad ones.

Both options are better than thinking Odasaku just wants to fuck him. If he minded, which he doesn't, it'd be his own fault too. Everyone knows that you start texts with can we talk and not are you busy unless you want to bang.

Dazai closes his eyes, already tired of himself, even without having to pretend around Odasaku. He thinks about calling it off but that's rude and it'd make him look weak and it's all a lot more troublesome than going through with what he has so far. It's freezing but somehow, the heater is the one thing he doesn't have the energy to bother with as heg gets off his ass to fix up the apartment. He turns the TV on, keeps the volume nice and low on that channel that only replays old movies. Neither of them are wine people but that's what you're supposed to have for these kinds of occasions, aren't you? So he leaves a half empty bottle of sake on the coffee table. Lounges on the couch as he sips from his glass.

How classy is he.

A knock at the door. Odasaku knows it's already open and only does it to alert Dazai. But he still waits outside until Dazai calls, "Come in." It's so unnecessarily considerate of him, Dazai shivers. And hates Odasaku a little bit, even as he thinks about pushing Odasaku against the door and kissing the gentleman right out of him.

"Hey," Odasaku says as he closes the door behind him gently. He smells like takeout. Looks as rugged and handsome as ever. Dazai wants him so badly.

He moves his eyes to the TV as he puts down his glass so he can refill it. His hands are shaking, fuck. "Day go okay?"

"Yeah." Dazai listens for the sound of fabric shifting, Odasaku hanging his coat up on the hat rack. Soft steps signal Odasaku having taken off his shoes and switched them for slippers, walking light out of habit so they don't clack against the tiled floor. "And yours?" 

Dazai's half-distracted with trying to remember the last time they had sex for fun instead of thinking he needed Oda's body to make his own shut up. "It went okay," he replies to Odasaku, and it's a miracle he doesn't add, 'it's about to get better, I think.'

That would just be tacky.

He shifts on the couch, still a little chilly, but trying to signal Odasaku should come closer. 

"I brought you curry. And soup in case it's too spicy. Can I put it in the microwave?" 

Dazai blinks. His mouth starts curving up. "Odasaku, has anyone told you you're too polite."

"You probably haven't eaten." Odasaku easily ignores his teasing jab, placing the takeout on the kitchen counter but not quite walking behind it. "It's crab soup."

He hasn't eaten and yeah, he's a little hungry, and of course Odasaku knows all of this and brought him his favorite. But he doesn't like to eat before sex. It just makes him feel bloated and a little repulsed by himself.

Crab doesn't go with sake, he could try, only it does. He could try 'not in the mood for curry or crab', only Odasaku will probably ask him if it's okay to take a look at his fridge and make him something.

"I'm not hungry." He sips at his glass again. Isn't alcohol supposed to make you feel warmer? "Can I have a kiss?" He wants Oda's tongue burning up his mouth, wants Oda pinning him down and chasing the darkness out of him. It's a stupid thought. He humors it and waits for a reaction from underneath his lashes.

Odasaku's surprise is practically audible in the silence. Dazai starts to move over so the length of his gangly body stretches across the couch, then puts his elbows on the armrest and props his head up to watch Odasaku. Please?

Odasaku closes in slowly, but Dazai finds himself holding his breath, nervous anyways. He can feel his heart in his throat, feels it pulse when Odasaku bends down, warm hand sliding up Dazai's face, cupping his chin. Dazai tilts it up as his eyes fall closed.

And then his breath catches, when Odasaku kisses his forehead instead.

He blinks and Odasaku's already straightening. Retreating to give Dazai space.

"Odasaku...." That's not what he wanted, but-

Odasaku prods his elbow and Dazai takes the cue, pulling his limbs back and sitting up straight. Odasaku takes a seat besides him, their shoulders a couple of inches from touching. Looks at the TV as he says, "Can I hold you for a bit?"

He has to think about this one. Says, "okay," even as he thinks about how he doesn't really want to be touched, at least not if it isn't Odasaku pushing Dazai onto his back.

Odasaku shifts his weight forwards so he's sitting on the edge of the couch and able to comfortably reach for the coffee table. He pushes Dazai's  glass inwards- farther from Dazai- and then picks up the remote. When he readjusts his sitting position again, he's still sitting a few meaningful inches away from Dazai. And now he's left his arm stretching over the top of the couch.

It's such a date move, except it's them. Odasaku is doing this for Dazai.

He hates Odasaku a little more in the moment. He hates feeling inconvenient, because it's a reminder he cares about what Odasaku thinks. The desperation of his attachment- he's so fucking weak, it's pathetic. God, he disgusts himself. 

"Are you getting enough sleep?" Odasaku asks. Dazai is still leaning away from his arm, but he's not breathing as hard and so he supposes, this is good.

"No." He hasn't. Before they started their arrangement, Dazai would have answered that with a smirk, an 'is Odasaku coming on to me or am I still daydreaming?' 

The stunt actors throwing themselves across the TV screen are alright. If this were also back then, Dazai would poke Odasaku, tease and bet that he could do it better. Oda would consider it in his seriousness and Ango would scold them both into the next year. Everything's different now and he's not sure if he likes it or loathes it, even though having to ask himself which one it is, is pretty determining. 

Five minutes is how long it takes for him to finally calm down, enough to shift and holds himself against Odasaku's side. Odasaku radiates warmth. The rise and fall of his chest is steady. Dazai tries to ignore it. His neck prickles.

Some more minutes trickle by before Odasaku murmurs, "Can I take you to bed?"

"No," Dazai blurts out immediately, because he understands what Oda is saying, but the answer is no because it'd stress him out, be even worse than the little fiasco going on right now. He'd have to try and force himself to sleep around someone who should be a source of comfort and failing that would just be gloriously useless of him-

"Okay." Odasaku says, gentle. "No worries." A pause. "Would it help to invite Ango over?"

Dazai breathes. It would. He can put on a front if it's for people, if it's for friends. It's harder to put on a show if it's for individual people; he has to make sure their gears mesh together but they're so damn complicated. Odasaku more so, than most. 

"We should drag him out of the house a little more."

Dazai opens his mouth. It's not you, he wants to say, urgent, needy for someone else to know what he does. Odasaku, you're not the one making me uncomfortable, it's me.

"Maybe you can teach us how to make hot pot?" 

Dazai wants to yell. Fall apart out loud for a change. They're monsters, not shadow puppets on the wall, and they don't go away when the sun comes up or what their parents say it's bedtime, for real this time. Oda's trying too hard, and it aggravates him. 

Odasaku can't wrap his arms around him and make him okay. That's never going to be him. He's afraid that Odasaku still doesn't know that, and he doesn't know what Odasaku will do when he really, really understands this. Even if Odasaku doesn't leave, Dazai can't stand the thought of Odasaku suddenly thinking less of him. It'll be just like losing him.

"Dazai?"

He shakes himself out of it. "Yeah. Call him." He pauses. "Can I have the crab soup after all?" He's still not completely ready to hug it out with the idea of eating, but it'll give him something to do.

Oda rises. Dazai stares at the grace, the strength in the lovely curve of his back. He feels cold all over again.

Oda glances over and holds his hand out. Dazai stares at it for a second before he lets Oda lead them away, carrying the two empty glasses with him in his free hand. Dazai pulls away to work on transferring the takeout into bowls to send them off to the microwave while Oda runs the glasses under tap water, swishing the residue round and round before drinking it down and then washing them clean.

The smell of reheated curry overpowers the room. Oda watches Dazai drop into a chair and then watches Dazai plop spoonfuls of curry rice into his soup, stirring this way and that.

"Did you know," Odasaku says, and Dazai looks up at him. "You have happy-cat face."

Dazai sputters. "I'm sorry, I have what?"

"Happy-cat face."

"Odasaku," He purses his lips, but he can't stop his shoulders from shaking. "Odasaku, that's not a thing."

Odasaku keeps his gaze, the slightest rise of his eyebrow explaining yes it is because you have it.

"You're so silly. Did you know that?"

Odasaku hums. When he dials Ango, he places his phone on the dinner table. Dazai's eyes gleam as he shouts like he's from the next city over.

"Oh my god," Ango's voice is very grumbly. "Odasaku-san, please remove me, I think he broke my ear."

Oda turns off loudspeaker and brings the phone against his ear. "So when are you coming over?"

"Ugh, give a man twenty-minutes. I still have work to do."

Dazai throws himself into Oda's side, squashing his face against Oda's other cheek as he chirps, "Tell him all work and no play makes Ango grouchy. And that he has old-man energy."

"Tell Dazai-kun, I think his Brat Card should have an expiration date."

"Tell Ango, there isn't an expiration date on fun~"

"Tell Dazai-kun-"

Oda disentangles himself from his executive, passing him the phone and letting them go at it. Dazai sits back down, adjusting himself so he can bring his knees up to his chest and leave his feet on the chair seat. Even as he chatters away, he keeps his eyes on Oda, who moves to wash out the takeout containers. He reuses everything because he's an environmental dork. Dazai would be more of one if he wasn't interested in dying before the planet. Still, watching Oda so patient, quietly determined to withstand the overpowering...it makes Dazai soften.

"Hey, is Odasaku-san still there?"

"Nope." Dazai says, popping the p. "Odasaku is busy. Being perfect."

"Yeah, yeah. Why don't you two just get married already? Make it official and everything."

He doesn't recover as quickly as he'd have liked. "Ango, weddings are not good places to pick-up women. They're all crazy. And non-sober. And crazy. We'll find you your little lady elsewhere, don't you worry." He watches Odasaku shake off the excess water into the sink, wiping the counter dry and putting the containers to the side. Then he dries his hands, he drifts over to the living room and picks up the remote.

"Ha. Not that I wouldn't reject your delightful request to be your best-man, but are two groomsmen allowed to be each other's best man? I think so." 

"Has anyone ever tell you not to drink on the job, Ango?"

"Speaking of which, you'll have alcohol waiting for me, right? I had to train a new accountant today. If it was there, you would have fainted from the painfulness."

"Delightful. So. How much longer?" He'd really like for there to be someone other than Odasaku around him.

"That depends. I don't want to walk in on you two fucking."

Dazai sighs into the receiver. "It's not my fault. Odasaku has a really nice dick."

He can practically hear Ango roll his eyes. "Don't expect me anytime soon then."

"So. Fifteen minutes?"

"Yeah, alright. See you dumbasses then."

There's no immediate beep! Ango is waiting, letting him end the call. Dazai shakes his head. His friends are really something.

Odasaku keeps flicking through the TV channels, only looking up when Dazai leans over the couch from behind, gently resting his chin on the top of Odasaku's head.

"Hi."

"Odasaku's hair is really soft."

"Thank you."

"Odasaku smells very nice. Like mango-watermelon. And curry."

"Thank you." Oda sits very still so he can hand Dazai the remote without jolting him. "What do you want to watch?" 

Dazai breathes. In, out. "Anything is fine."
