The grand master of Dutch dance, Hans van Manen, celebrates his 90th birthday this year. That has given rise to international celebrations by leading ballet companies with the Hans van Manen festival from 8 to 29 June 2022, the exclusive publication Dance in Close-Up and the exhibition of the same name in Galerie Ron Mandos in Amsterdam from 19 June to 17 July 2022. From the 1970s to the 1990s, Hans van Manen was not only one of the world's leading choreographers, but also an internationally acclaimed photographer. It was during this period that the then very young photographer Erwin Olaf met the famed artist, who immediately took him under his wing and introduced him to the world of the visual arts and studio photography. This book celebrates their 40 years of friendship, with a photo series in which Van Manen directs moments from his choreographic career, recorded with the utmost precision by Erwin Olaf. With text contributions from the authors Nina Siegal and Michael James Gardner.

i saw your post about king's landing fashion/the influence of margaery, cersei and the factions dressing up like them, I ADORED IT! but it made me wonder how do you think fashion was during the dance? (better than in the show i hope...)

If you thought the Tyrells were ridiculous in the 290s wait until you meet the Targ-Hightowers in the 110s. The girls are over the top they’re giving you ruffles, curls, jewels, damask, embroidery they’re giving you EVERYTHING. This is the peak of Targaryen power so it makes sense that it’s going to show through their clothing. Like tell me these pics aren’t Rhaenyra at her wedding and Alicent at Aegon’s coronation

Rhae runs those Kings landing fashion trends like the Navy. Veryyy detailed dresses she wants the best most intricate gowns that can be made. Inlaid pearls and jewels and embroidery all over. Lots of extra layers and extra fabric and big skirts just to show off that it can be afforded. I think she’s definitely fond of ringlets, at least in her youth. When she’s older it’s still curled, but kept in a tighter updo, though it’s still gorgeous

The Hightower faction is probably more conservative because of close ties with The Faith. They’re still giving looks though like it’s just more subdued. Hair is probably tied up and/or put under a headpiece, and there are probably a lot of symbols of the seven in their jewelry and such. Idk why but I think they definitely love a ruffle or high collar too. Once the war starts clothing gets a lot more muted and subdued, half because of mourning and half bc of resources being cut off

Honestly the boys in kings landing are giving the ladies a run for their money. Daemon tries to act like he doesn’t care but he’s showing up to court in his fancy new surcoat (ruffles included) to try and get Rhaes attention. Aegon doesn’t give a shit but Aemond NEEDS his new embroidered black doublet to match his black silk gloves and his black velvet pants and stockings or what even is the point.

And then for the nobility’s “casual clothes” (and the handmaidens regular clothing) it would be simpler, made of looser fabrics so it’s easier to lounge or work. No stiff damask or embroidery, but it still has decoration on necklines and cuffs bc a girls always gotta look cute, even when she’s chilling. The Targs and Hightowers are always having serve-off there’s no time to slack

Scumtober- Day 25 (Slow Dancing)

Dutch Van Der Linde x Reader drabble

Once Sean was rescued, a celebration ensued, You planned on sleeping in but Dutch insisted you at the very least sit by him as he makes sure no one ends up dying.

By now its midnight and most of the other's are drunk or passed out. The ones that are still lucid are chatting near the campfire. As you read a book, you suddenly hear the gramophone play something you recognize.

"Oh, I like this one" You comment as you get up from your seat and hold your hand out to Dutch. "Come on Boss" You say with a smile.

As soon as you offer your hand, he takes it without hesitation and stands up slowly. “Alright then,” he agrees. The tune reminds him of one his mother used to hum while cooking breakfast back home in Blackwater.

You pull him to the side so you can both dance yet still be able to see the others. He wraps his arms around your waist, pulling you close enough for your bodies to brush together slightly.

He starts swaying side to side, moving fluidly with the music. It’s clear that dancing isn’t completely foreign to him; perhaps there were times during his youth when he had indulged in such activities.

He lets out a laugh that’s almost sheepish in nature “I suppose I have. Back when I was younger, there weren’t many opportunities for entertainment like this.” He glances around at the others who are either fast asleep or too busy partying to pay attention to the two of you.

You chuckle as you give his shoulders a playful squeeze. "Have you danced like this before, Boss?"

His hands move lower, settling just above your hipbones as he continues guiding you through the simple dance steps. Dutch holds you tightly, savoring each moment spent in your embrace

“But these days, things are different. We hardly ever stop long enough to enjoy moments like this.” There’s something in his tone you don't think you've ever heard from him.

You lean forward and rest your head on his chest. You close your eyes and relax as he sways you softly.

Dutch pulls you closer, relishing the feeling of having someone else share this peaceful moment beside him. He presses his lips against your hair, breathing in the familiar scent of lavender that always seemed to linger around you. He pulls away slightly to spin you around.

Surprised but delighted by the sudden movement, you raise your arms instinctively, allowing him to twirl you gracefully before bringing you back into his embrace.

His gaze lingers on yours for several heartbeats before he dips you dramatically, eliciting a chuckle from both of you.

Meanwhile, Mary-Beth and Karen watch from afar, catching your laughter.

”Look! Look, Karen!” Mary points excitedly towards the couple slow dancing under the moonlit sky. “They look so cute together, don’t they?”

Karen raises her eyebrows skeptically “Cute? Those two? Really, Mary?” She squints at the sight before nodding grudgingly. “Well, I guess they do seem kinda... nice with each other right now.”

I don't remember my country ever being this hyped about an Eurovision entry before. I've seen elderly dance to Europapa; Hakken is trending again; kids are already dancing to the song during school competitions; even the little ones who can barely even walk are bobbing along with the song. Church bells are playing the song; barrel organs are playing the song. Europapa is at #1 in the Netherlands' official singles chart for 2 weeks in a row already.

It's insane, and Eurovision hasn't even started yet.

Just Dancers and their favourite Efteling attraction + fairytale!

Night Swan is here too btw, its just like Canned Heat.

I stand behind my choices and am not afraid to go into heavy detail (and I will for some of them). Everything’s below the cut :)

This is going to confuse so many of you but being very real with you: I don't care. This is me mixing my special intrest with my current hyperfixation and you cannot stop me.

Wanderlust

The attraction I chose for Wanderlust is called Symbolica. It’s a dark ride that takes you on a tour through the Palace of the world of wonders aka Symbolica. I feel like he really enjoys this ride simply because of the whimsy of it. It’s an exploration through all different kinds of rooms (from a garden with a huge whale to a ballroom with all different types of dancers). It just feels right up his alley. He would 100% pick the music tour (and get into an argument with Jack in line why the music tour is better than the treasure tour). They always end up going for Wander’s choice though.

The fairytale I picked for Wanderlust is the Indian Water Lillies. I picked this fairytale for its story! I feel like it’s something he would really enjoy. If you don’t know it here’s a little summary: The stats dance on the water at night, and return to the sky before the first light of day. One day the stars refuse to come back through. The sun rises and a witch curses the stars. Now they’re water lillies during the day and dance as girls during the night.

Sara

The attraction I chose for Sara is called Dreamflight. It’s also a dark ride but it takes you through the world of fae and trolls. I feel like Sara would be a big fan of the fairies and maybe even have a plush of one of them. She always buys the pictures of her and the others whenever they go.

The fairytale I chose for Sara is Rapunzel (Raponsje). Although this version follows the original source of Rapunzel much closer, I think we all know the premise of it. I feel like it would be her favourite fairytale, why? Purely vibes. She does compare Jack to Rapunzel every chance she gets just to mess with him.

Brezziana

The attraction I chose for Brezziana is called Joris and the Dragon. It’s a roller coaster based on the story of Joris and the Dragon. I chose a roller coaster for Brezziana because I feel like she would enjoy roller coaster’s more than dark rides because of the thrill. The story doesn’t really influence why I chose this ride for Brezz. I feel like she would be more interested in the racing aspect of the ride. She would definitely challenge her friends to races if they were in the park on a quiet day. Brezziana is 100% a water side girlie (and good on her because water always wins). I feel like she would also really like the theming for this ride.

The fairytale I chose for Brezziana is Snow white. A true classic really. Don’t think I need to tell you the story of this one either. Brezziana really does strike me as a princess enjoyer, so thats mainly why I went for Snow White. A simple classic that no one can blame her for.

Mihaly

The attraction I chose for Mihaly is called Fata Morgana. It’s a dark ride that takes you on an adventure through the stories of the 1001 Nights (in a boat). I feel like they really like this ride because it’s often seen as a way to relax in the middle of a busy day or at the end of the day. I also think that they like it for all the different scenes you see throughout. Although they used to be really scared of the giant that you encounter near the end of the side as a child.

The fairytale I chose for Mihaly is called Frau Holle. I picked this fairytale because I feel like they would really agree with the message behind it. If you don’t know the fairytale it basically tells the story of a very hard working girl. One day this girl falls down a well while doing chores. In this well she gets transported to another dimension. In this dimension she does chores for Frau Holle. When she goes back to the human world she is rewarded with loads of gold. Her spoiled step sister throws herself down the well in search of gold, but once she comes back she’s covered in soot because she didn’t work hard enough. I feel like Mihaly would really agree with the idea that you get rewarded for the hard work that you do. Also Frau Holle is just iconic and we love her.

Jack Rose

The attraction that I chose for Jack is called the Flying Dutchman. It’s a roller coaster that is based on the legend of the Flying Dutchman. He likes it because of the theming and music. Thats all really, no other reason (looks at Night Swan who doesn’t like this one bc theres a tiny possibility that you can get wet and she doesn’t want to ruin her perfect outfit). No but in all honesty: he’s right. This is the best one.

The fairytale I chose for Jack is called the Red Shoes. It’s a fairytale about a poor orphan girl who gets adopted by this old lady. The old lady gives her a pair of red shoes that she can dance in. Eventually the old lady falls ill, but instead of caring for the lady the girl goes to a ball. As a sort of moment of instant karma the girl gets cursed and now she has to dance in those shoes forever. Seems decently innocent right? Nope. It ends with a lumberjack cutting off the girls feet. The shoes continue to dace, even without the girl. Feels right up Jack’s alley ngl. I feel like he talks about liking it really innocently too, and when people read the story they’re just kind of horrified. (It was between this one and the little match girl so)

Night Swan

The attraction I chose for Night Swan is called Villa Volta. Its a mad house type of attraction where like the entire room spins (or at least thats the illusion that is created). Basically the house got cursed and only someone with a soul as pure as a new born baby can list the curse. Just feels like her type of thing. Also she heavily vibes with the music.

The fairytale I chose for Night Swan is called the Chinese Nightingale. Although this is a very ironic fairytale for her to like (basically a ruler with a god complex finds out that they’re truly not as great as they thought they were), I feel like she would because it made Jack cry as a kid. Thats all, that amused her enough.
