No Humanity Analysis

If you're caught up on The Great War, you know why I am analyzing the No Humanity storylines in TVDU. I think there is a lot of confusion about what 'turning humanity off' means. And I think a lot of the confusion stems from the writers/characters not really knowing what it means.

The characters, when their humanity is off, will often throw around comments about not having emotions, but that's not realistic. If they had no emotions, they wouldn't feel anger or annoyance, which we clearly see from each NH character. Characters who actually experience no emotion would be very calm and logical. We see NH Caroline wanting to party and have fun -- all emotions. NH Stefan gets annoyed, a lot, with everyone wanting to turn it back on. Even NH Damon gets annoyed and vengeful with Lexie in the flashback. NH Elena is petty with Caroline based on emotions. So it is clearly different than turning emotions off.

Rather, to me, it seems more like they lack empathy. They feel the emotions but just don't care how they impact those around them. The show calls it humanity because the way humans can empathize with each other is a core part of humanity. NH characters can act ruthlessly because they do not fear consequences or how their decisions affect those around them. But throughout this, they still want to live their lives and experience emotions -- just without the guilt that comes with humanity.

Now, if you are caught up on TGW, you know I've added something that we are told is not possible in TVD, *spoiler* an Original turns off their humanity *spoiler* We are told by Rose that the older vampires cannot turn off humanity because their humanity is already so blurred. But older vampires still do have humanity, if they didn't, the audience wouldn't root for them. For a big part, they do not care how their actions impact humans, but they definitely care how their actions impact each other. It may be a selfish humanity, but there is still empathy/guilt there. And we even see moments of the Originals showing empathy to people outside of their family. Meaning they still have something to shut down. It may be a less dramatic change than seeing someone as compassionate as Elena or Caroline shut their humanity off, but there would still be a difference.

"De cineribus ad corpus eduxi te nunc!" Bonnie waved up her hands to the circle. A zillion magical particles surged like a whirlwind in the center. Like the phoenix bird, so did Elijah rose from the flames.

He breathed in deep, looking at the witch in front of him confused.

"Hello," Bonnie muttered, pointing to the side of the circle, "uhm- here are some clothes"

Elijah picked up the clothes and swiftly put them on. And then, he felt suddenly sickly and fell on down on his knees. He held his head in his hands.

"Here. Have some of my blood" Bonnie offered the Original a small potion bottle. "You need it. It will help you clear the pain from a spell I made to clear some of your memories."

Elijah took the tiny bottle and downed the potent Bennett blood.

Boarding House

"Did you hear this? Kai is back? JEREMY!" Damon said, focusing on hearing what is said below them.

"What the Hell?" Elena turned around stunned.

Meanwhile, in the study, Jeremy dragged Kai in, holding the astrolabe. "You got to send me back."

"I'm half dead." Kai said breathing heavy.

"I got to stop Bonnie" Jeremy shot at the witch.

"Even if I could do that, she made sure noone could break the timeline again. And the ancestors are behind her." Kai said.

"I can't believe this." Jeremy pushed Kai aside.

"Believe what you want. The Bennetts allowed it. They need Elijah. The four evil Gods of the Undetworld are let loose." Kai said.

"You're lying." Jeremy sifted angrily.

"Why do you think the Bennetts let me free?" Kai said.

In Fell's Church, Bonnie had to cut debriefing Elijah short.

"Craziness in Mystic Falls never stopped. I got to go. Your family still owns the Mansion - here is a phone with our numbers, as well as your sisters. Kol, too. Though I didn't tell them I'd bring you back. They would probably not agree. This was my call. I got to go. Later" Bonnie apologized for having to run.

Elijah straightened his sleeves and after a moment to himself made his way to the Mikaelson residence.

There, he pulled his phone out of the jeans back pocket. He inhaled sharply. He wasn't ready to face anyone just yet.

He inhaled and exhaled deeply once again, allowing his brain time to process all the emotions that hurled back in explosively, mixed in with the new memories, memories he had of his time spent with Elena in 1988.

Flashback

New York, 1988

"What has you staring at me like there's no tomorrow?" Elijah said.

"It's just - you." Elena said.

"Care to elaborate" Elijah's lips curled a curious smile up.

"I love you. And I wish I can have forever with you." Elena said, sighing inwardly. She stood up and walked over to him. She took his face with her hands and kissed him deep and hard.

"Elijah" Elena muttered with a burning throat as she staggered in the room, breaking the Original's thoughts. She wanted so desperately to run into his arms, squeeze him tight, kiss him zealously. But - there was the cloud above them. The cloud of covertness. No matter that what she had done was absilutely unintentional on her part, she knew him all too well. He hated being lied to. Another breath shuddered through her, "Elijah - I"

What was there to say. His quiet demeanour spoke louder than words.

She was guilty of erasing his memories of her, of them, everything that had happened between them from 1988. But like Bonnie had explained. The timeline was not to be shifted.

"I know what I said, but the message Bonnie left me that night was ademand. I had to do it." Elena said.

"Yes. She said so." Elijah said in his very distinctive low voice.

"It was the toughest decision I ever had to make. It killed me. I missed you. I missed us. My heart ached like crazy. And then Freya found a letter you wrote to me. It blew me away - because - the last time we saw one another was in Willoughby. And you left for New Orleans." Elena paused for a split second. She tilted her head, her heart thrumming warmly, citing part of it, "You had my heart spellbound the moment I have set my eyes on you."

Elijah's warm brown eyes glistened at the memory of the letter. And the night he wrote it. The night, he had let all of his feelings he had kept bottled up for such a long time loose. Or rather put them in order.

"Please, say something," Elena narrowed the gap between them, "Elijah?"

LOUISE/DAMON + RECURRING THEMES AND SYMBOLISM; the necklace

louise’s necklace: even though stefan was the one to give louise her necklace to protect her again damon (the power of compulsion, specifically), it became more of a symbol of damon and louise's relationship.

1.03 FRIDAY NIGHT BITES

The vampire sniffed and his eyes travelled to her throat, where he new necklace sat against her olive skin. "Vervain." He spoke the words softy. "What?" Louise frowned. "Let me guess: Stefan gave you that necklace?"

1.11 BLOODLINES

"Well, you're in Georgia." he said, leaning against his car. "Without your magical little necklace, I might add." Immediatelyy, her hand flew up to her necklace where he vervain necklace usually hung. Her eyes widened not feeling it. "I can very easily make you…agreeable." he continued. The brunette folded her arms across her chest and narrowed her eyes at the vampire. "You wouldn't do that."

1.14 FOOL ME ONCE

The brunette moved to unclasp her necklace that prevented her from being compelled and place it on top of the grimoire on the table. "Alright. Ask me if I'm lying now." She stared at him, awaiting his response. "You know Anna won't stop, by the way, not matter what I do." Damon informed her. "Then we'll deal with it." Damon grabbed her necklace from the table and moved closer to Louise. They were a lot close now, their chest merely inches apart. She felt the same sensation she always felt being this close to Damon. She couldn't hear her fast beating heart but she was sure he could. His hands made their way around her neck to refasten the clasp, his cold hand brushed along her collarbones sending chills down her body.

2.08 ROSE

"Wait! My necklace!" Louise's hand rose to her bare chest before she ran to the other room, Damon, Stefan and Elena followed. The seer was frantically searching the room. "It has to be here!" she exclaimed. "I can get you more vervain back at the house. We should go." Stefan said. Louise let out a tired sigh and pressed her lips into a thin line before she followed Stefan and Elena out of the room. Damon began to follow hen he noticed a glint of metal under a pile of rubble. He bent down for a closer look. Louise's necklace. Gingerly, he pick up the chain. He stared at the pendant dangling from his fingers. How easily he could get rid of it and no one would know. […] "I bought you this." Damon said. He held up his hand dangling from it was her necklace. "I thought that was gone." she said and he shook his head. Relief washed over her. "Than you." Her hand reached out to grab it but he pulled it out of her reach. She looked at him questioningly. "Damon, you're not funny-" "I'm not trying to be." He dropped his hand and tucked the necklace in his pocket. "I just have to say something. "Why do you have to say it with my necklace?" Louise asked suspiciously.

3.01 THE BIRTHDAY

"I've got something for you." he interrupted, pulling something from his pocket. The vervain necklace, her vervain necklace, flashed silver in the glinting moonlight as he held it out toward her. "Damon told me to give it to you. Happy birthday." She took it from him. "My necklace…I didn't think I'd ever see it again." she whispered, looking up at him surprised. "Damon? He found it for me?" Stefan simply just nodded. Louise cradled the necklace in her hand as if it was the most precious possession. The emotions it stirred were so overwhelming, it almost felt as if she was suffocating.

6.02 YELLOW LEDBETTER (1.11 FLASHBACK SCENE)

"I've got something for you." Damon announced, turning around abruptly and pulling something from his pocket. The vervain necklace flashed silver in the glinting moonlight as he held it out toward her. She took with her back against his car, trapping her on one side, and his body creating a barrier on the other. However, she didn't mind it. "I know how important it is to you." "You don't," she replied, as she stared at the necklace in all its simplicity. "Not really." "I don't?" "You think it's because it protects me from compulsion." she said and he looked at her bemused. "It was once. I can be safe from compulsion without the necklace. I could put vervain in my coffee everyday, wash my clothes with it, mix it in with my shampoo, but that necklace is me. It's…my constant. It's how I feel…safe."

2x12 - 2x22 Alright I did something different this time, I put my thoughts down while watching (usually after I finished the episode) instead of doing it after I finished all the episodes. So I have way more thoughts this time lol, my short term memory was struggling before. All this is to say this is much longer than my last recap thoughts, also this is one of the best seasons of the show so it made the rewatch more enjoyable.

Poor Rose and very dumb on Damon’s part to leave Elena with her having absolutely no idea what the werewolf bite was going to do. The dream sequence he gives Rose is one of the best Damon scenes ever IMO. RIP Rose and that awful wig.

Elena told Damon to be the better man and the groan I let out... I wish you an eternity of misery Kevin Williamson!

I could not stop laughing at Stefan's brilliant idea of talking to Tyler involved him sneaking into his house and then slamming him against the wall LMFAO!! Genius idea Stefan that definitely made him want to help you and be friends, truly a mystery that you two never get along.

The Lexi flashbacks made me sad I was 100% with Stefan glaring at Damon like BTW you’re awful in case you forgot.

Is Alaric wearing eyeliner sometimes or am I seeing things?

The Damon/Andie scenes just make me so mad and uncomfortable, there's moral ambiguity that always exists in this show and then there's this disturbing storyline, fuck the writers.

Ok I admit Matt and Caroline have one good scene (though Caroline does the heavy lifting here) when she sings to him at the grill and they kissed. I clapped, a moment of weakness. Matt ruined the good feelings by the end of the episode though so balance has been restored.

Unintentional Intentional Foreshadowing? At the 60s dance Stefan and Elena are dancing and then Caroline and Matt come in. Stefan leaves Elena to go dance with Caroline and spins Elena into Damon’s arms. While this is happening the song playing is Last Kiss, which is a song about a guy who lost his girl in a car crash. I don't think it was intentional but if I were the writers I would totally take credit and say it was.

I'm sure this is part of the Delener manifesto (which I will never read) but the line "I don't mind being a bad guy. I'll make all the life and death decisions, while you're busy worrying about collateral damage" had me like DAMNNNNNN. Maybe I don't give Damon enough credit because that was a pretty great summarization of why Stefan eventually lets Elena die in 3x22 by "respecting her choices".

I am so tired of the suicide missions this season, choose life!

At least Caroline chooses life! This is when I really started seeing how Caroline is climbing up in the narrative and especially how her love life is gaining more depth and importance. The porch and door scenes in particular because lovers and potential lovers on the porch was something Elena got in S1. For Caroline the doorway represents her heart. We got Tyler inside while Matt is outside in 2x10 because that's when she was helping Tyler and started falling for him, meanwhile she broke up with Matt to protect him. Then Tyler fucks up and he gets the door slammed in his face. Stefan says he can come in if she wants him to in 2x13 but she's not ready to let Stefan in yet, and he realizes that so he brings back-up. Then you've got Matt back inside her heart but really her Mom put him there to spy on her. I really like the shot of Matt at the door looking at Liz in 2x18 before the dance.

IMO most of this season Elena has a relationship with both brothers; she has a physical one with Stefan and an emotional one with Damon and she does that so they are both all about her. And I think this current version of the triangle was the only way she could have both. Because Stefan doesn't care that Damon is also in love with Elena because it means he'll protect Elena (re: quote above) and he'll be in Stefan's life which is all he ever wanted. And Damon because he's so obsessed and consumed by Elena will stay there pining and flirting and acting out when he feels ignored because Stefan will be there to "clean up it up." Everyone wins in a very fucked up way. The problem is she couldn't keep Damon at just an "hopelessly pining" distance and once Elena chose Damon, Stefan wasn't interested in being the one in an emotional relationship.

Klaus knowing all the Mystic Falls gossip already lol.

Tyler saying who’s Klaus my poor boy I wish you never found out. Really loved the Tyler and Caroline scenes the last few episodes (I mean the heart eyes he gives her in the tomb *melts*), they'll always hold a place in my heart.

I'm sorry Liz but you were a terrible sheriff, my god. In fact MFPD is up there with GCPD as the most inept police department in all of fiction. How the hell could they not take down one vampire who was weakened by werewolf venom?

The Stefan and Elena goodbye in 2x20 was so heartbreaking damn, they absolutely have moments where I totally ship them and that's one of them.

2x21 is the best episode of this half and overall the storytelling in this season is really solid. Everything with the sacrifice ritual was well done and even though I knew exactly what was going to happen I was intrigued the whole time, the best was Bonnie coming in with the wind and the fire and the magic. I feel like the show often has a problem where one half of a season will be good than the other meh, this season was solid throughout. Loved the twist that the sun and moon curse was made up.

Some of the acting choices Joseph makes while Klaus is watching Stefan drink the blood bags are… sir I see you and I appreciate you.

Lines that made me laugh:

Damon: Don't mistake the fact that we haven't set you on fire in your sleep for trust. (this made me laugh so hard I had to pause LMFAO his jabs at her were so good)

Caroline: Everyone just needs to stop kissing me! (a classic! Caroline's milkshake brings all the boys to the yard)

Not a line but Alaric having to write “The dagger will kill you…” on a piece of paper and then their mad faces was hilarious! They are just so dumb.

which season Stefan do you think had the best writing when it comes to solely his character and what's your favourite Stefan & Defan scene?

Good questions!

Question 1:

Stefan had the best writing in Season 3 because the narrative explored Stefan’s character in depth, which had been hinted at in previous seasons but never fully examined. Season 3 explored The Ripper, Stefan’s blood addiction, Stefan’s past, Stefan’s friendship with Klaus, Stefan’s guilt, anger, and shame. In other words, Stefan was finally written like a protagonist, rather than just the third point in a love triangle. Consequently, Stefan’s vulnerability, strength, villainy, and heroism were given the narrative focus they deserved.

And just for the record, my favorite TVD episode is The End of the Affair, the 1920s flashback episode that revealed Stefan’s friendship with Klaus. I love that episode. The writing, characterization, and themes were done so well. It’s a high point for me and I always wanted more 1920s flashbacks.

Question 2:

I have two favorite Defan scenes:  

The first is when Stefan apologized to Damon for turning him into a vampire in episode 2x08 (Rose).

Stefan: Hey.

Damon: What?

Stefan: I’m sorry.

Damon: About what?

Stefan: For being the guy who made you turn 145 years ago.

Damon: Enough Stef, it’s late. Don’t need to rehash that.

Stefan: You know what? I’ve never said it out loud. I guess I just need to say it and you need to hear it. I’m sorry. What I did was selfish. I didn’t want to be alone. I guess I just needed my brother.

The second is Damon forgiving Stefan season 8x10 (Nostalgia’s a Bitch).

Damon: You’re not here to forgive me, Stefan. You’re here so I can forgive you.

Stefan: You’re kidding me, right? Think of all the ways you have ruined my life for the last century, including the fact that I’m working for Cade right now because of you and you seriously believe that you’re the one who should be forgiving me.

Damon: You’re right. I’m a monster. But like I said, I forgive you.

Stefan: [punches Damon] I have nothing to apologize for.

Damon: Then why are you here, Stefan? Huh? Why are you always there to straighten me out when I go off the rails? C’mon man, you’re not here for Cade. You’re here because you blame yourself for turning me in the first place. Apparently, I still do too. At least until today. I officially forgive you.

Stefan: Shut up!

Damon: I forgive you, Stefan.

Stefan: [repeatedly punches Damon] Why aren’t you healing?

Damon: Remember that vampire I was warning you about, running around in my head? Well, it’s not me. It’s you. It’s always been you, Stefan. So, for the last time, I forgive you for making me what I am. I absolve you of all the death and destruction I have caused as a result. And you wanna know why? Because you’re my brother. And I love you and there’s nothing you can do to ever change that.

These two scenes encapsulate why I love Stefan & Damon’s relationship. Stefan and Damon (and the fandom) often view themselves in black & white terms:

Stefan is the “good brother.” Damon is the “bad brother.” Stefan is selfless. Damon is selfish. Stefan is a hero. Damon is a villain. Stefan is empathetic. Damon is sadistic.

This is true. To an extent. Because it is also false. Stefan turning Damon into a vampire against Damon’s will was selfish. Damon leaving his brother per Lexie’s request was selfless. Stefan was villainous and sadistic in The End of the Affair. Damon was heroic and empathetic when he ended Rose’s suffering.

Stefan and Damon were not as black and white as they (or the fandom) portray themselves as. They were nuanced. They were complicated. They both did terrible things. And they both hurt each other. Stefan hurt Damon when he forced Damon to turn into a vampire. That violation was the source of Stefan’s guilt and Damon’s resentment. It’s the source of their problems. Katherine and Elena were proxies for Stefan and Damon’s issues; they weren’t the actual cause of them.

I’m not interested in philosophical or moral debates as to whether Stefan should feel guilty for Damon’s actions. Because that discussion is beside the point. The point is that Stefan does feel guilty, and Damon does feel resentful. Stefan needed Damon’s forgiveness before Stefan could forgive himself. Stefan needed to hear Damon say “I love you and there’s nothing you can do to ever change that.” And Damon needed to let go of his resentment. This was the entire point of their story.

When Damon slept with Rose he grabbed her hair while I don't think he ever did that to Elena even though she did it to him. I remember when I saw 3x19 I was surprised at how unexpected it was seeing how much she took charge since in her previous relationships it was very vanilla. I've seen a lot of Stefan fans say that women in the show prefer Stefan over Damon in bed and that Stefan being less likely to submit in bed means he's less selfish. They use Katherine saying he's good in bed as an example and many of them use Rebekah talking about having sex with Stefan as an example even though she never said he was great, he's the one who said their sex was good because of her.

Being less likely to submit in bed has nothing to do with selfishness and everything to do with dominance. Stefan likes being in control, period. Damon and Elena alternate because they have equal control over each other. Damon allows her to dominate him because he loves strong, dominant women. Just look at his sexual partners. Sage, Rose, Rebekah, Lexi, Katherine... they're all older and stronger than he is. You see how much he enjoys being dominated by Katherine. She's got him pinned down on the bed in 1x13 flashback. He's literally flirting with Rebekah while she's torturing him. When he first meets Sage, he's drawn to the fact that she's boxing men. And I'd have to disagree. Women favor Damon over Stefan. Rose preferred Damon. Isobel preferred Damon. Matt's mother basically mocked Katherine for making a big deal about Stefan. Even after what Damon did to Vicki, she still brags about making out with him. Lexi is still holding a grudge some 20+ years later, so even she was strung over him. Bonnie would choose Damon over Stefan in a heartbeat. I believe she's the biggest reason Stefan dies in the finale.

The fact that Katherine prefers Stefan over Damon says a lot about Stefan. Woman literally takes over hell. Same with Rebekah, who actually prefers Ripper Stefan over humanity Stefan. They basically prefer a monster rather than a man. Just listen to Katherine talk to Damon. She was getting off on the fact that he was devious and monstrous. So much as hurt her.

This is Why I Hate Attention - Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Jessica gasped as her head shot up, panting heavily confused and disoriented for a solid minute before she remembered where she was. She had been taken because she had seen her older sister get taken as well. She furrowed her brow looking around the room she was tied to a chair in. She had been kept separated from her sister the whole time, but now she didn’t get why she was still here when she heard no noises nearby. Her blood ran cold as she went wide eyed realizing what had happened to her.

*Flashback*

Jessica’s body was limp as she was held tightly in the arms of the unknown man that carried her to a room on the other end of the house. She had been a complication in the plan to get the doppelgänger, but she would make for a nice snack. He was starving after all. He slowly set her down in the old chair using the dusty ropes to tie her hands so she wouldn’t get away. A smirk settled on his lips as he heard the girl groan and slowly open her eyes before he roughly covered her mouth with his hand to prevent her from screaming and bit down violently on her neck.

Blood ran down Jessica’s skin as she gave muffled screams and thrashed from the pain of this unknown vampire drinking from her. Her hands were bound meaning she couldn’t defend herself against him. What was worse was she was still groggy from being used by Katherine as a punching bag and being knocked out. A whimper escaped her throat as her thrashing slowly became more subdued. She was growing weaker and had a feeling this vampire would completely drain her. Jessica had been once told by Damon that her scent compared to Elena’s was more enticing and tempting. Her head sagged to the left as she gasped slightly trying to breathe normally. Tears streamed down her face as her hazel eyes met his dark ones realizing how much of her blood he was covered in.

The vampire frowned, realizing she was close to death, and his conscience ate at him for a long moment before he cursed and bit on his wrist forcing his blood down her throat to heal the bleeding bite. He turned as he heard Rose call for him and left the dying girl not truly understanding his consequences. He didn’t pay any attention as the young girl’s heart stopped not five minutes after he had left. He didn’t realize that he had sired a new vampire as he got his head swiped off by Elijah Mikaelson.

*End Flashback*

Jessica whimpered as she broke free from the ropes that were holding her down and covered her mouth curling into herself. She was in transition. She had died at 15 all because someone was after Elena. She shakily walked towards the door as she ripped off her heels that she had worn to the masquerade and saw her dress was ripped and dirty. Her curled hair was now frizzy, knotted, and matted from not being washed in god knows how long. The undead teen froze as more memories began to assault her mind.

*Memory 1*

Jessica had gone over to Caroline’s to drop off the sweater that she had borrowed from the blonde a while ago. Caroline hadn’t been home, but Jessica used the spare key to drop off the sweater and the chocolates that she had gotten the blonde. The moment that Jessica stepped inside of the Forbes’ home, she knew something was wrong. Her skin began crawling like she was being watched. Jessica shook her head trying to shake off the unsettled feeling she had in her stomach. The 15 year old set the sweater on the back of one of the kitchen chairs and set the chocolate on the table before she froze hearing what sounded like a growl in her ear from behind her. She swallowed thickly and gave a soft whimper as she felt the immense pain explode from her neck. A vampire was violently feeding from her. Just before she passed out, she was spun around and forced fed blood as her hazel eyes met the blue eyes of Damon Salvatore.

“You’re going to forget everything that just happened. You’re going to forget each time I do this to you if I do it again. You’re going to go home and clean the wound you got while out on a walk in the woods,” he spoke in a low tone, his eyes dilating as he compelled her to forget before sending her on her way.

*End Memory 1*

Jessica grabbed onto the closest wall to keep herself steady. She couldn’t believe what Damon had done to her. She had been used just like Caroline had been used by him. A sob escaped her throat as she grabbed her chest while another memory resurfaced. The difference with this memory was that it was about Stefan.

*Memory 2*

Jessica hummed softly as she walked into the Salvatore Boarding house. She had a school project on the Civil War for history and wanted to get some help from either Stefan or Damon. Her hazel eyes blinked owlishly before going wide eyed as she walked into the foyer and froze. The sight before her was not something she was expecting. Her body shook in fear as she saw multiple empty human blood bags around a brooding Stefan Salvatore. She gasped a little too loudly because when she turned to run away and leave the boarding house, he suddenly appeared blocking her path out.

“Now…now…what am I going to do with you? You’re not supposed to be here Jessica,” Stefan said slowly in a taunting tone, the dark veins under his eyes never dissipating. “Damon is right though. Your scent is something else…and I am desperately hungry.” He gave a dark smile as he sped closer to her while he grabbed the back of her hair compelling her. “Stay quiet. Don’t resist. You’ll enjoy what I am going to do to you. You won’t remember anything I do to you,” he said, his voice low and hypnotic as his pupils dilated.

Everything became a blur as Jessica was lost in her own mind trying to scream and resist everything he did to her that day. She didn’t understand why he was doing this to her. She couldn’t wrap her head around how he would betray her trust she had in him. Jessica didn’t even remember anything he did to her when she woke up the next morning in her bedroom with a slight limp in her legs.

*End Memory 2*

Jessica leaned against the wall and slid down to the floor sobbing as she held herself trying to make herself smaller. How did Stefan not feel guilty about what he did? Or did he feel guilty and not say anything so he didn’t ruin his image with Elena? She shook her head, her emotions running high from remembering everything not caring about anything as another memory surfaced.

*Memory 3*

The night of the Miss Mystic Falls pageant was one that Jessica didn’t want to be around for. She had found out that Stefan was on human blood and spiraling quickly. She also knew that there was no point in her even being there because she wasn’t competing and wouldn’t compete until at least next year. She wasn’t even sure if she was going to compete because she had wanted to do it with her mother helping her. Now that her parents were dead, she didn’t want to do anything that would remind her of them.

She had gone outside of the Lockwood Mansion to get some fresh air while pulling her shawl closer around her body to keep herself shielded from the slight breeze. The 15 year old gasped softly as the one person Elena told her to stay away from appeared in front of her. Stefan was dangerous when he was on human blood. He didn’t care who he hurt or drained while in this ripper-like state. Her hazel eyes grew in fear as she backed away from him, her back hitting the tree she was near. “Stefan?” she whispered softly in fear trying to make herself seem smaller.

The green eyed vampire smirked as he stepped closer to Jessica towering over her. “Remember everything,” he said darkly. He was in the mood for a chase and basked watching her expression change to one of horror. “You can have a 30 second head start.”

Jessica whimpered and bolted as best she could through the trees of the Lockwood property trying to get back to the party. She was very glad she wore flats to this stupid party and cried out as she was grabbed from behind thrashing against Stefan’s vice like grip. A strangled scream left her throat as she felt Stefan bite down on the nape of her neck. Jessica tried to get away from him, but she was just a weak human. Her body fell to the floor as Stefan was ripped away from her. A loud snapping sound caused her to turn her head to the best of her ability ignoring the pain in her body to see Katherine Pierce standing over Stafan Salvatore’s dead body. Katherine had saved her.

Katherine kneeled down and helped Jessica sit up before biting her wrist to feed Jessica blood to heal the gaping wound on her neck. The Petrova vampire lightly held her face. “Forget what Stefan did to you today. Go home and rest,” she ordered softly, compelling the youngest Gilbert.

*End Memory 3*

Jessica gasped trying to breathe tears cascading down her cheeks like overflowing rivers. Her chest was tightening, and she couldn’t control her breathing. Her head was swarming with more memories that had been compelled away. She screamed as someone grabbed her hands. She looked up seeing a brown haired man who looked as though he had just woken up. She didn’t notice the gaping hole in his clothes nor did she notice that his skin looked more gray and ashy.

“Sleep,” was all the man said as his eyes dilated. This man was compelling her. How could a vampire compel another vampire?

Tomb

Artemis Stefan and Damon and I walked down the steps of the tomb "Let's to it" he said looking between Stefan and I.

Gilbert's house

"Hey, can we talk?" Stefan said once the door opened to reveal both Elena and Amy "Why?" "We went to see Katherine" "Come on in"

Flashback

"Please, come on in. There's many room for all of us" Katherine snarked as she gestured for us to walk in "I rather poke my eyes out" Damon said "Hmm, but they're such pretty eyes" she said as she moved as close as she could to the barrier "We're here for the moonstone" "Feel like tossing it over?" I said showing myself which made her jump back in fright.

She was silent for a minute before looking to the boys "Tell you what, you get a little witch to hocus pocus me out of here and you get whatever you want" Stefan shrugged his shoulders "I thought you liked it in here. Nice and safe where Klaus can't get to you" she sighed.

"I've had time to reconsider" "Meaning you're hungry"I smirked "I'm starving, dirty but above all, I'm bored. At least running from Klaus was not boring so here the deal: you get me out of here, you get the moonstone and I'll disappear from Mystic Falls forever. Let me know what you decide" She said showing us the moonstone before leaving.

Flashback over

"You don't believe her, do you?" Amy said to which Damon snorted "No, of course not. We just want the moonstone" "According to Rose's friend Slater, there's a way to destroy the spell that Klaus wants to break" "No spell, no doppelganger sacrifices so ergo you live" "How do you destroy it?" Amy said sitting by me "By releasing it from the moonstone" "How do you guys even know this is gonna work?"

"cause we have a crafty witch on our side" "You discussed with Bonnie?" "She agreed to do anything she could to help us" Stefan said standing up from his position on the counter "It's Katherine who has the moonstone. She's not gonna give it to you" Amy said confused on how we were going to get the stone "We're gonna get it from her" "Well, what he means to say is we will pry it from her cold dead hand if we have to"

"Bonnie just needs to find a way to release the seal long enough for us to get in, get the moonstone and get out in time for her to return it" I sighed "leave it to me I will get the stone" "Whoa, seems like you guys have already all planned out" Elena said completely ignoring me "Yep, we're awesome" "Except for one thing. I don't want you to do it" I sighed.

Amy looked up at me and motioned for me to follow her "so you would have a way to get the stone out safely?" She said as we walked out the front. I nodded "I can make a call and Katherine wouldn't be strong enough even if she was still consuming blood right now to take me on" Amy nodded in thought before finally looking up at me "could you please? My sister likes to make everything difficult and it's even worse when the brothers try to solve it" I nodded "I'll have it by tonight"

She nodded before moving to sit on the steps "you never told me how my sacrifice is supposed to go" I sat down next to her "instead of a stone like Klaus's. The thing he was bound by was a person" Amy looked at me surprised "our mother hated that she had had Andreas with our stepfather. There were times that I saw that she actually cared for him but most often I was the one to mother my siblings. My mother bound him to the person he loved a 1000 years ago"

"your original doppelgänger" I said looking up from my hands back to Amy who looked as white as a ghost "but Andreas killed her in cold blood when he found out that she had cheated on him and had a child with another man. Obviously not knowing that she was what could break his curse" I sighed and looked at the sky "my brother used to be a kind and honest person who would do anything for his family and in his own twisted way he thought he did. Valkor and Thora's cruelty changed him and made him the man he is today"

"It's not your fault Artemis" Amy said placing her hand on my shoulder "yes it is...maybe if I had killed Valkor the moment he hit Andreas then maybe he wouldn't be like he is today. Maybe my mother wouldn't have changed us" "you can't always think about the what if's Artemis. It'll only make you contradict yourself. The past is in the past. Let it stay there" I turned to her and smiled "thank you Amy"

Amy Elena dragged me to the Salvatore house without out an explanation after the brothers and Artemis left. Elena barged in without even knocking "Elena!" I whisper yelled "It's not nice to leave a girl naked so early in the morning" Rose said as she came around the corner in a nightgown. As soon as she sees us her smile falls and she looks away in embarrassment "Sorry, I thought you were..." Elena, speechless tried to talk "I... sorry. I..." she said moving her weight from one foot to the other awkwardly.

"There is no one else here" Rose said "Actually we came to talk to you" Elena said which made me look at her confused "Then I should probably get dressed Rose smiles and heads upstairs.

"It's a bad idea" I rolled my eyes at Elena trying to convince Rose to take us to her friend "No, it's not. From what Stefan told me your friend Slater obviously has more information about Klaus. You and Damon just gave up before you got it" I looked at Elena in shock "Because somebody blew up a coffee shop with them in it Elena!" "There's more to learn. We just have to find a way to learn it" Elena said as she paced back and forth, ignoring my comment.

"Why are you coming to me with this?" Rose said from her seat next to me "Because you owe me. One word from me and Damon Stefan could have killed you for kidnapping me" I scoffed at Elena "Or maybe it's because you know that they wouldn't want you doing this" I said glaring at her which she glared back "We're having a disagreement, okay? They're willing to risk everyone that i love and I'm not"

"They're just trying to protect you" Rose said trying to get Elena to see it from their point of view "And you've proven you couldn't care less whether I'm protected or not so we're back to you taking me to Slater" "What exactly do you hope to achieve by this Elena?" I said crossing my arms. Elena looked at me before looking at rose "How would you like to be able to walk during the daylight?" As soon as those words left Elena's mouth all Rose's rationality went out the window.

"I've been the slave to shadows for 500 years, what do you think?" She snarked "I think I know a witch who's willing to do whatever it takes to help if you're willing to make a deal" Elena smirked. We got up and I was dragged with them to go meet this Slater guy.

Salvatore's House

Damon We had Bonnie come over to talk about what could be done to get the stone "I might be able to lower the tomb spell long enough for you to get in there and grab the moonstone from Katherine" "How? It took both you and your grams last time and look what happened to her" Jeremy baby Gilbert said against this plan "I'm aware of what happened. I've learn a few new things" "Bonnie..." he whispered. 'Was there something going on with these two?' "How will you get it?" "She hasn't been feeding. She's weaker, we're not"

Stefan said as I lifted up my glass of blood "You wouldn't be underestimating her, would you?" Bonnie said warily "It's a plan. Is it perfect? What plan is?" "Let me do it. I've got my ring, I could get in, get out and no spell necessary" Baby Gilbert said "Jeez thank you 16 years old child. Why didn't we think about that? Why are you even here?" I said crossing arms "Maybe I can help better the plan. Do you have anything that belongs to Katherine?" I looked

An apartment

Amy When we finally made it Rose knocked on the door but nobody answered "Slater? Slater, it's Rose. Open up!" When there was no answer rose and I turned to Elena "He's not home" "sorry" Rose said shrugging her shoulders "uh uh. We didn't come all the way out of here for nothing" Rose sighed broke the chains "technically we didn't want to go. You made us" I said as we walked inside "Slater?" Rose called as her and I looked around but as we walked further into the apartment we found a grey veined body lying in the middle of the room.

"I don't think he's gonna be much help" Rose said as Elena walked into the room as well and sees the body too. But instead of leaving she looked around more until she noticed papers and computer. "Looks like whoever blew up the coffee shop found him and killed him for his information" I threw my hands in the air in frustration at Elena's lack of care towards the dead man on the floor.

"Yeah, probably for helping people like us. The guy was a vampire omeneck. Knowing too much information just beat him in the ass" Rose said as she opened the curtains. My eyes widened but then nothing happened making me confused "What are you...?" "tempted glass, UV rays can't penetrate" She said as she looked through the window "I used to just come here and watch the day" Rose said in thought.

Elena picked up a picture of Slater and Rose "I'm sorry about Slater" she shook her head before turning to us and walking over "Any luck?" Elena sat down and tried to get in but shook her head "its password protected, I can't get in" "Then this is pointless, let's just go" Rose said before her and I started to walk towards the door but stopped at a noise.

"Stay here" she said looking at us before walking to the source of the noise. We didn't hear anything until Rose spoke up "Alice?" A girl ran up and hugged Rose "Rose" she sobbed.

Salvatore's House

Stefan I walked back into the lounge room holding the photo of Katherine from 1864 out "This belonged to Katherine. I found it with her things after I thought she was dead but it was hers" I said handing it to Bonnie. She took it and puts it in a bowl. She puta few drops of water on it before it suddenly lit on fire. She closes her eyes and cast a spell.

"What was that?" "I can turn the metal into ash, blow the ashes on her and it will incapacitate her for a minute or two. Long enough for you to get the stone and get out" once she was finished she tipped the ashes onto the table. I looked at Damon "We should get the torches" he nodded "Alaric's stakes are in my trunk. Bonnie?" He said as we looked at her "Go ahead. I'm almost done"

Slater's apartment

Amy Rose comforted Alice a little bit before walking over to us Alice. "She found him a few minutes before we did" Rose said standing beside me "How is she?" "Overreacting. Big time" Rose said with an eye roll. Elena gave her a judgemental look as if saying that she hasn't done the same thing this whole time "Her boyfriend just died. There's no such thing as overreacting" "The tears are for her. She didn't care for Slater. She was only dating him long enough to see if he'll turn her"

We all looked at Alice. Elena rejoins her and gives her a cup of tea. "Thank you" she said looking at Elena "You two look really familiar. Did you know Slater?" Elena shook her head "Not personally, no. I just knew that he kept detail records of all of his vampire's contacts and I was hoping that he could point me towards Klaus" Alice scoffed "Doubtful. Klaus doesn't want to be pointed out" she said taking a sip of her tea.

"Do you know Slater's computer password?" My eyes bulged out at how rude Elena was being "Are you seriously asking me that right now? "Kristen Stewart. God, was it obvious?" Alice scoffed as she got the computer unlocked "These are all leads to vampires?" Elena asked as she leaned over Alice's shoulder "Slater was obsessed. Almost as much as me" suddenly Rose pointed at a name "What about that one. Cody Webber? They exchanged dozens of emails about Elijah and Artemis" she turned to Elena "I could call him" Elena pulled her phone out and gave it to Alice.

"Tell him that we're trying to send a message to Klaus and Andreas. the doppelgängers are alive and they're ready to surrender" my eyes widened and I looked to Elena "What?!" "WHAT!!" I yelled but Elena ignored both Rose and I "Oh my god! I knew I recognized you" Alice smiled "Just Get him the message please" she said before walking out of the room.

"What are you doing?" Rose said as we followed after her "I'm getting Klaus and Andreas's attention" "If Klaus and Andreas know that you two are alive, they'll find you and they'll kill you" when Elena doesn't say anything both Rose and I realise that was what she was doing this whole time "Which is exactly what you wanted all along" "It's either me and Amy or my family" "So all of this is a suicide mission so that you could sacrifice your sister and yourself to save everyone else?" I glared at her "You do not get to make that kind of decision especially when that decision involves me" I growled.

Elena looked at me angrily "what? Would you rather him kill all our loved ones!?" I glared at her even harder "no but that doesn't mean you get to put targets on our backs. Stop being reckless and stupid and think about someone other than yourself!" Elena's eyes widened in shock "honestly Elena, Artemis acts more like my sister than you have in 18 years" I growled before walking out and heading back to the car.

Ethan’s car breaking down in front of the Baker home after Eveline sends a molded at him.

Jack having a more bigger role than just shit-talking Ethan perhaps having flashbacks where Ethan meets Zoe in her trailer.

Ethan getting the shotgun when Jack uses it against him because he’s had enough of him.

Instead of the three dog seals, it should be a key located in the basement of the house where Ethan finds it and engages in the chainsaw battle against Jack.

Marguerite being a more stalker-like villain and her fight with Ethan being more brutal.

Ethan exposing Lucas to Eveline as a Blue Umbrella team raids the place. Perhaps Lucas sets up some traps but is soon killed by Chris Redfield as a surprise cameo.

Eveline having a fight against them with Ethan blasting her with an Alber-01.

Two post credit scenes being Ethan’s wounds suddenly regenerating and the birth of Rosemary Winters as a nurse (implied to be Daniela Dimitrescu) looms over her and calls Mother Miranda or maybe in Europe, Mia answers the doorbell but she looks in complete terror at the camera right now then is about to scream before it cuts.

Add a segment where Ethan and Mia are getting used to their lives with Rose.

Ethan maybe fighting back against Chris and Hound Wolf, perhaps he shoots one of the soldiers while heading to Rose and injures him before Chris knocks him out.

Elena Lupu having a big role now, perhaps it’s revealed she’s part of a resistance movement against the Four Lords and her house was one of many safe houses for them. Also she started the rebellion when she found out about the castle and fungus amassing a small following of villagers that got guns from the Duke.

Dimitrescu (Elizabeth Debicki) and her daughters surviving resulting in a fight scene where they take on both Hound Wolf squad and the BSAA. They get captured later on by the BSAA. Maybe she rips off one of the BSAA soldier’s helmets then shows the body to Chris trying convince him to leave.

Beneviento (Eva Green) being a more vocal and charismatic villain to Ethan as she lulls him into a false sense of security.

Moreau perhaps reimagined as more of a hunter now and leads the lycans. He’s an honorable warrior and wants a fair fight against Ethan by turning into a werewolf to take him on.

Heisenberg’s factory gets raided by the villagers where he (played by Oscar Issac) takes on Ethan himself using his hammer and a large sword then mutates fully.

Miranda (Tilda Swinton) is almost killed by a rocket launcher where Ethan shoots her.

Hound Wolf squad should consist of Barry, Jill, and the same characters.

*sigh* This is exactly what I have thought to console myself,since TVD ended,into accepting a lot of narrative choices with regards to Caroline ( & Bonnie),the finale included.

Haha! But I thoroughly enjoyed reading your thoughts on Damon and it made me realise why I always struggled to care about his character at all.Huh! TVD is a hot-bed of lost potential and giant plot craters with 5 billion  romances(mostly poorly written) as plot twists.

In 1864,his desire for vampirism was motivated by his desire for Katherine.Once Katherine was gone,he was against completing his transition.In the modern timeline,his desire for the cure centered around Elena Gilbert.In s4*,he refused to take it because Elena didn't but in s6, his desire for a human life came back because Elena wanted to be human.

   As for his existential crisis,I think it popped up because Rose expressed her desire to be human in the dream(2×12), that Damon gave her, when she was dying.Once that chapter closed,his existential crisis conveniently poofed into thin air!

*In s4 finale,if I'm not wrong,Damon was dying from werewolf bite which was why Elena asked him to take the cure.Correct me if I'm wrong because I don't remember much of s4 and its convoluted mythology,but how exactly was a cure for vampirism going to protect someone from werewolf toxin?It could turn a person human.But the venom would still be in their system,right?If the venom is fatal for a vampire,should it not be even more fatal for a human?Who knows what poisonous toxin their bite contained that could instantly off a vulnerable human![Although this was Elena-logic,the girl who went from attending occult studies and having no basic fire safety skills to becoming Dr.Elena Salvatore! Hope she keeps Caroline's blood stocked in her clinic! *side eyes* ]

Or is it one of those UNO reverses the writers loved pulling instead of making an actual effort in creating a compelling narrative?You know like the one they did with Stefan in s8! Give him the cure so he is not a ripper anymore! Problem solved forever not because the conflict is resolved but because the conflict is magic-ed away by default! Who cares if Stefan never overcame his ripper issues!

Yeah, that’s why I loved Damon’s existential crisis in season 2 – it wasn’t tied to Katherine or Elena. Damon's missing being human was an added complexity and nuance to his character. Delena (and Datherine) reduced Damon into a one-dimensional character, which is one of the reasons why I disliked that ship so much.

I think Rose’s death sent Damon into a tailspin, but his existential crisis makes sense because Damon only wanted to be a vampire if it meant being with Katherine forever. He had no interest in vampirism beyond that. Furthermore, it was established in flashbacks that Damon hated being a vampire for the first couple of decades. Damon existential crisis (Damon missed being human more than anything) was consistent with that characterization.  I’ve pointed this out before, but starting in season 4 the writers used Damon as a plot device, resulting in an inconsistent characterization. The writers retconned Damon’s characterization (his desires, motivations, and backstory) to suit the plot rather than writing a plot that suited his established characterization. (You aptly described this as the writers pulling UNO reverses.) Using Damon as a plot device in the later seasons caused his character to swing from one extreme to another. It drove me nuts because Damon’s character was all over the place in the later seasons. There was no logical character arc for him.

I don’t remember why Elena wanted Damon to take the cure at the end of season 4, but either way, Damon’s attitude change was never explained. Damon went from “I miss being human” to “I don’t want to be human” with no onscreen explanation.
