In Islam, there are many acts which can lead to immeasurable reward – both today and in our Hereafter; these acts are commonly referred to as sadaqah jariyah.

Sadaqah jariyah is an act of giving in a way that keeps on giving. For example, if you were to invest in planting a tree, that tree would then go on to provide shelter for as long as it stands – meaning you shall receive an ongoing reward for as long as it stands, too. Sadaqah jariyah differs from Sadaqah in this way, due to the ongoing reward.

On the authority of Abu Hurairah (ra) that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, ‘When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: Sadaqah Jariyah (a continuous charity), or knowledge from which benefit is gained, or a righteous child who prays for him’. (Muslim)

Although this is a relatively simple act, it can be incredibly life-changing for communities without any access to a water supply, and the rewards for your contribution shall continue for as long as others are benefitting from it. A truly impactful type of sadaqah jariyah.

⭐️Partaking in the Building of a Mosque, School or Hospital⭐️

Many Muslims choose to donate towards the construction of a mosque in order to gain significant rewards. In turn, your rewards will continue for as long as others benefit from your generosity. In fact, you shall be rewarded for every single prayer recited in the Mosque; every single patient being treated in the hospital and every single individual gaining knowledge in the school. Even putting a watering can in a graveyard, will go a long way as every time someone fills up the can to water a grave, you, in turn, receive the benefits.

⭐️Sadaqah Jariyah is Investing in the Hereafter⭐️

Throughout life, we invest a lot of money, time and effort into achieving our various personal goals and dreams. We often focus our energy on work or home, putting in a lot of hard work to obtain the results we wish to see.

We should remember to give just as much energy and focus into investing in our Hereafter as this is where the rewards are the greatest; not only for our today but for long after we have died.

“The semblance of those who spend their wealth in the Way of Allah SWT, is as the likeness of a grain of corn, which grows seven ears and each ear has a hundred grains. Allah SWT gives manifold increase to whomever He pleases. Allah SWT is All-Sufficient, All-Knowing.”

We should all aim to adopt ongoing charity as a habit in Islam as opposed to an occasional gesture as we will, one day, be thankful of our actions when the resulting rewards continue to benefit us in our Hereafter.

Human rights provide the essential social foundation for all people to lead lives of dignity and opportunity. International human rights norms have long asserted the fundamental moral claim each person has to life’s essentials – such as food, water, health care, education, freedom of expression, political participation, and personal security – no matter how much or how little money or power they have. As the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) says, ‘recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world’.7 Of course, a social foundation of this kind only sets out the minimum of every human’s claims. Sustainable development envisions people and communities prospering far beyond this, leading lives of creativity and fulfilment. But, given the extent of deprivation and extreme inequality in the world, ensuring that this social foundation of human rights is achieved for all must be the first focus.8 Since 2000, the MDGs have provided an important international focus for development, and have addressed many deprivations, whose urgency has not receded: eradicating hunger and extreme poverty; achieving universal primary education; promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment; reducing child mortality; improving maternal health; combating HIV and AIDS, malaria, and other diseases; and extending access to water and sanitation. The priorities set out by the MDGs remain critical for achieving the social foundation for all, but additional concerns and challenges in recent years are extending that agenda. Shocks and volatilities – in terms of food and energy price spikes, financial crises, and the impacts of climate change – have drawn attention to the importance of people building their long-term resilience through climate-change adaptation, disaster-risk reduction, and well-designed social protection schemes. There is also increasing awareness of the need to provide decent work for a rapidly growing global labour force; to bring electricity and clean cooking facilities to billions of people who still live without them; to tackle extreme inequalities within and between countries; and to ensure people’s empowerment in influencing the political and economic processes that shape their lives. Inequalities between women and men run deeply through all these concerns, reflecting enduring disparities in control over natural resources, in employment and earnings, and in social and political participation. Gender biases are embedded in markets, politics, and institutions, and can be reinforced by poorly designed economic policies and development strategies. Tackling the source of these disparities is critical for achieving the social foundation for all, to the benefit of women, their families, and society. The High-Level Summit on the MDGs in 2013, along with interest in creating Sustainable Development Goals out of Rio+20, will most likely launch a process of exploring how global development goals should be renewed, updated, or expanded to reflect these emerging concerns. This process is, effectively, an opportunity to draw up a set of internationally agreed priorities for the social foundation, to be achieved over coming decades.

The United Nations plans to end the world poverty by 2023 it's the first of 17 Sustainable Development Goals designed to make the world a better, safer and fairer place. But have you thought about what that actually means, poverty means not being able to afford simple things like food , water, healthcare or a safe home. You may already have some idea what that looks like. Poverty happens everywhere but it's not the same for everyone. Sometimes it affects entire countries and generations of families, other people may suffer from situational poverty which are caused by some events like an illness or losing a job or systematic poverty caused by inequality or discrimination. The main thing is poverty can affect anyone anywhere, and right now a mass of 700 people live on $1.90 a day. Think about the whole world as just 10 people , as at least 1 of them will have $2 a day to live on. Could you do that? Why don't we just print a big pile of money and give it away? Well it's complicated. One of the reasons poverty is such a big challenge is because it can have many different causes.
