college! luigi struck down by a cold during finals week and still trying to keep up with school, ta stuff, frat stuff etc and reader urging him to rest and take care of himself and practically forcing him onto the couch with tea <333
I LOVE THIS 😓😓❤️
WARNINGS: none! just affection and luigi being sick, mentions of Y/N
Tumblr media
Luigi was always persistent in his work, he was incredibly dedicated and prompt with deadlines; especially in college. Only problem: he’s too dedicated. He would make sure his work is accomplished even if the world was ending.
So when a casual cold that everyone was inevitably getting during the winter semester, you found yourself trying to encourage him to take a break. The first day he had symptoms and felt under the weather: “I’m fine, it’s just a headache and runny nose. I’ll take something before bed and I’ll wake up feeling better.”
His words against yours you suppose.
Your classes were a lot earlier than his, so naturally you woke up way before him. You made yourself a to-go cup of coffee, gathered your bag and headed out. The two of you lived in different dorms; but they were across the hall from one another, which meant you saw each other all the time.
The day was normal, nothing of interest, you got through your morning class and a lengthy final, you were grateful to get it out of the way. You were on your way to a meeting with some other students about one of the support groups, there were usually two held during the day, you preferred attending the early one since there’s no classes during. On your way, you decided to drop in on Luigi, he was just barely waking up and getting around. Sluggishly. Very slowly.
You loved him but he looked like death. He stood at the small kitchen counter, a very.. yucky cough escapes his mouth. “You sound lovely.” You say as you set your bag down on a chair and watch him, he groans and mutters something inaudible. “I feel fantastic too.” He says back.
“So much for feeling better, hm?” You state a little cockily, he just glares at you. It’s funny but you also feel bad about it, his dark brown eyes are glossed over, his beard stubble was growing back on his jawline and chin; which he always hated and tried to maintain. His nose was getting red around the nostril where he would wipe and blow. Somehow, even in sickness the asshole managed to look cute. He just seemed laggy, not all there but also, too present. His ears hurt, they popped every time he drank from his water bottle. “Shut up.” He murmurs.
“You should stay here, get rest.” You say, tiptoeing to reach into a cupboard and get the box of elderberry tea out. It was nasty but it always helped when you were sick, so you bought some for Luigi. “Are you crazy? I can’t do that! I have finals all this week, plus a frat meeting Wednesday, which is really important, Y/N!” He was trying to be stern and get his words out quick, but he ended up just coughing excessively, rubbing his temple. Annoyed — almost.
“Jeez, Lu, I know this week is the worst to get sick during but you gotta focus on your health too, ya’know.” You say.
“I do know, but I already checked… I’m not running a fever so I’ll take a Tylenol later for my headache and some cough syrup before I leave. I have a two different exams today in calculus and algorithms, on top of that I’m the one planning the frat meeting, and quite frankly I haven’t really done much for it. I have no idea where it’s even going to be held this week.” He sighs and plops down on a chair.
“You’re overworking yourself, Lu. It’s catching up to you and now you’re sick.”
“It has nothing to do with it, sweetheart.” He says in that tone — you sigh, “I’m not gonna force you, but you need to rest. I’m fine with helping you plan whatever it is you need help with. However, I’m sure the other fraternity members would understand you needing to cancel and reschedule. It’s going all around, even a few of my professors had to cancel classes for the week.” Of course, he was stubborn and did it his way. Men never listen.
You went on to attend your last couple of classes and take the finals, Luigi forced himself to go Monday and Tuesday. Some of his friends came up and told you about his stubbornness in classes when the professor confronted him about not feeling well. As a teacher’s assistant, he resisted and insisted he was fine. Obviously everyone else didn’t think so because he had to sit away from other students as to not spread the bug.
As the week progressed he became more loopy, while you checked in on him daily, you finally decided to put your foot down. “Luigi Nicholas Mangione, you are staying in this dorm and you are resting. I don’t care if I have to strap you to that bed, I already canceled the fraternity meeting, a few of the members are sick as well and your professors are willing to reschedule a day for you to take the finals.”
He sat there, listening to you, his legs hung over the edge of his bed, looking more pale, his red nose had worsened and he trembled from being cold yet simultaneously overheated. His room was unusually messy, his clothes he’d worn the past few days was tossed around, he slept shirtless and there was an attempt to get tissue in the trashcan, but he wasn’t a basketball player. They were scattered lazily.
“But it’s only two finals, I don’t have any tomorrow or Friday,” He starts but you cut him off. “No, Luigi. I’m serious-” He pushes by you. “I’m fine, I just need to take my medicine for the morning.” You roll your eyes, following him into the other part of the dorm.
“Sit down.” You say firmly, you never use a really stern or somewhat harsh tone with him. You don’t like it. He glances at you as he stands awkwardly, shifting his tall figure. “But…”
“No, you heard me. Sit on the couch.”
He grumbles and finally sits on the small gray-colored couch, folding his arms like a toddler. You heat up water in a coffee maker and get the elderberry baggies for the tea he clearly hasn’t been drinking.
He’s been achy from doing so much, his body was tired. His back had been sore for a couple of weeks now and this cold didn’t help. You give him a blanket and bring him his laptop to watch TV on, then you set the mug on a coaster atop an inn table beside him. He feels a little defeated but he can’t deny he likes being tended to. Especially by you.
“There. Not so bad is it?” You question and he looks up at you innocently. What a stupid pretty boy. “Well, I’m not entirely against you taking care of me.” He flutters his long lashes. You chuckle and gently sit across from him. At this point in the relationship, you two never cared if the other was sick, he would lay with you, kiss you and care for you every time you were sick; even if it wasn’t solely an immune system sickness.
You pull him over into your embrace, he lays his head on your chest. His muscular arm tucks around you, making sure to pull up and share the throw blanket. He smiles and gazes up to you.
It’s cute seeing him with his beard growing out and rosy cheeks. Although you could do without the snotty and congested part; his feverish body kept you warm. You return with a cheeky grin and gently place a little kiss on his chapped lips. “You need some chapstick, Lu.” You murmured against them.
“I know. I lost the one I had.”
“How? You just bought it a couple weeks ago.”
“I don’t keep track of everything.”
You shake your head, tracing little patterns across his back with your fingertip. He leans over for a minute, sort of sitting up and lifts the mug with tea to take a big sip. His face contorts, you knew how funny elderberry tasted. It wasn’t the best. You laugh at his reaction, “That’s…disgusting.” He says quietly, “Yeah, but it helps.” He nodded, “Thanks for.. Helping me.” He lays his head down, burying his face in your chest once more.
“That’s what I’m here for. Next time you should really listen and rest.” He tilts his head back and itches his neck, “Yeah, yeah… You’re right. As always.”
“Don’t say it like that!” You say, eliciting laughter out of you both, before you let out a hefty sneeze. “Bless you.” Luigi says, reaching up to brush hair from your head. His thumb traces down your cheek; you sneezed again, this time it inflicted an immediate headache. Great.
He knew the inevitable had caught you too. You give him an unamused look, Luigi grins and stares back up at you.
“Welcome to the club, sweetheart.”

😷weekly tag wednesday😷
thank you for tagging me @mybrainismelted @deedala @heymacy @jrooc @casey-ackkat @energievie @catgrassplantdad ! ! !
Name: Karen
Location: the birthplace of trap music
Age: Layla
Are you sick right now with a cold, flu or other non-life-threatening but deeply obnoxious illness: the very tail end of a cold-ish illness but it was more like Cold Lite.
When you're sick are you a get-up-and-just-work-through-it kinda person or a lie-in-bed-and-moan-loudly-and-not-move kinda person? I used to power through and be miserable, now I try and rest and not push through what can't be really pushed through. It's a balance.
What's your ultimate comfort drink when you're under the weather: I usually crave a soda of some sort. I guess I'd say a sprite? I think it's because my parents let me have a 7up when I was sick as a kid. It's like muscle memory except it's high fructose corn syrup.
Are there any superstitions or things you do that you believe will make you get better faster? no. I usually don't take anything either. I think most of them are shams. Maybe some ibuprofen but I try not to because of my medication load. I have tea with honey and just rest.
Do you take vitamin C or any other herbal remedies or do you think that's all non-scientific nonsense? I take various vitamins already but they are gummy ones so I feel like a child. My friend made elderberry syrup for a few years and another friend made fire cider, and I took both of those at various points and I fully believe the fire cider knocked something out of me quick. Elderberry worked maybe? It tastes good at least. I believe in it. I don't get sick often anyway.
When you were young and got to stay home from school what was your favourite show to watch (or thing to do whatever)? I'm with almost everyone else here of a certain era. Price is Right!! It was thrilling to watch tv on a school day. I would also get to have the aforementioned 7up and lay on the couch. My mom was usually pretty hands off because she's a nurse and believes in things just running their course. We never got anything like cold medicine that I can remember. Just honey. And 7up.
Is there a secret favourite part you have to being sick? No way. I hate being sick.
Worst part about being sick: I hate when you cough and cough and it's all rattly and you can't catch your breath. Freaks me out. Puking doesn't bother me in the slightest (I had horrible serious morning sickness that lasted the whole pregnancy twice, I've thrown up a billion times) but colds kind of activate my anxiety with all the breathing issues.
Who do you think would be the worst patient? Ian or Mickey? Ian would be the worst because he would try and push through it and make himself sicker. He'd be really frustrating to deal with and generally be moaning and groaning but still tying on his stupid running shoes and refusing to just rest. Mickey would be mad at him for not taking proper care of himself, but secretly Mickey would love doing things at night for Ian like getting him gatorade or rubbing his back or trying to figure out what a humidifier is and why Ian is asking for one. The next day Mickey would go buy one and present it at night all proud of himself. And Ian would fall asleep happy even if he snored because of a stuffy nose.
tagging to play and/or handing a box of tissues to...

Sick Day Magic
Tumblr media
It may come as a shock to some that I am, in fact, a human being and not a 500 year old oak tree with internet access. /j
Being human, and actually being alive, means you will get sick! Exploring biology for my biomed degree has taught me a lot of things about virus's, bacteria, and how exactly they work! For example: All living things can be effected by virus's, they are nanometers big for that reason, and not much is known about their origins here on earth which is really cool! With that said, every living thing gets sick, and with that we can pair magic to help us through our sick days!
I know I am, simply because I am writing to you now while on sick leave from all 3 of my jobs. Currently the summer flu has hit our home really hard, so lets talk about recovery!
Obvious disclaimer before getting started: Doctors, medical professionals, and health organizations are here to help you. This post is not to discourage you from using modern medicine, or seeing a doctor when you need one. I actually am very much against using spiritual bypassing to discredit medical research, especially as someone who is entering the medical field. If you are sick it is always important to speak with your doctor before trying any holistic remedies, especially if you are on medications that can conflict with herbal supplements. Know the warning signs for when symptoms escalate. This post is mainly about illnesses that can be treated at home and go away within a couple days or weeks (cold, flu, etc)
Lets get started!
How do living things get sick?
To keep this as simple as possible, living beings get sick from small organisms in a couple different classifications. You have virus's, bacteria, fungi, or parasites, and they all have one goal: to use your body as a host! Some things cant reproduce on their own like virus's so they hijack your cells, some things feed off of you and your daily body functions like parasites! In all, we are exposed to all sorts of pathogens, and our body will react with the nasty symptoms like fevers, chills, coughing, vomiting, and more because your body is trying to fight off all the pathogens using your body to reproduce. There are some circumstances where medical intervention is required however, for things like the common cold, flu, and sore throat you can find remedies over the counter!
All living things get sick, including tree's, seals, and even grasses. These pathogens are really good at evolving with us!
What did people do historically?
Before the introduction of germ theory in the 1860's, and the introduction of modern medicine in the 19th century cultures all around the world were still evolving to combat common sicknesses! From medieval Europe using cupping and leaches which assisted in medical standards and theories, to indigenous tribes using the herbs around them to pave the way for medications, cultures all over the world had their own tips and tricks for staying healthy!
In general most cultures followed a 3 way system, prevention, coping, and resistance, where methods were followed to assist in times of sickness. Often times they had distinct prayers and rituals, and would combine it with local remedies and folklore to help the general population.
Later on, herbs would pave the way for medicine as scientists discovered exactly what about an herb could help someone and isolate it into a pill, salve, or tincture!
What is some illness prevention magic?
When getting vaccinated create a prayer or chant to not only take your mind off it, but also for a metaphysical boost
leave offerings to gods of health during cold and flu season by your front door, and leave offerings to spring gods during pollen season by windows
have fire tonic, elderberry syrup, and lions main mushroom tinctures prepared (reminder: always consult a doctor)
Keep crystals like jade, green aventurine, and carnelian by your bed for health
Keep fresh flowers in the home, as scents can represent healing
Visualize sickness being repelled away from you as you practice hygiene
keep sigils in your shoes to 'draw illness back to the earth'
Mundanely make sure you are also having regular checkups (if you cant afford to see a doctor regularly, see what option you have for free clinics, or public health options like medicaid in the US), going to see your dentist because the teeth has a lot to do with health, and practicing good health habits can all be really helpful with preventing illness
What is some illness coping magic?
When sick, keep lavender and chamomile under your pillow as a sleep aid
Contrary to popular belief: Don't burn incense when you have a stuffy nose because the smoke will irritate your nose, instead use a humidifier and optionally put essential oils in it for drainage
take healing spiritual showers
create soft broths, and plain foods using kitchen magic and infusing it with intentions
Optionally if you are having trouble eating because of vomiting or fever, enchant your water bottle with healing energy with even just a simple chant
Put cold or hot compress on pressure points, optionally while you rest research what those pressure points symbolize and how you can translate that into your healing rituals from bed
visualize a healing green or blue light enveloping places that may hurt like joints or the head
Listen to gentle music or healing subliminal during naps to draw out illnesses
enchant your tissue box so every tissue you use is one less you have to use later
create a salve using willow or birch bark, camphor, mint, and chamomile for a soothing joint pain relief
Enchant medications with chants or sigils on the bottle
Mundanely, we see a lot of spiritual hacks, don't put garlic in your nose (The only reason you think it works is because it irritates your nose lining creating mucus), don't use elderberry (It puts your immune system in over drive when you are already sick and actually hinders the healing process), its better to limit herbal and holistic approaches other than things that are rich in things your body needs like fruits, veggies, and electrolytes!
Recovery goes into this much like prevention, our bodies begin to process and understand the invaders making it less likely for you to get infected by the same problem again, however as mutations grow, make sure you are taking care of yourself!
Spiritually, your body is a temple, and its the only one you have, love it and it will love you back, take care of it and it will take care of you back. As a human being I recognize the struggle that concept can be. Its easy for someone to say "just sleep lmao" without having insomnia for example. In general, finding a routine that works for you, your body, and your mind is very important! You are a spiritual being, but you are also human! Don't let people try to sell you the idea that modern medicine is out trying to hurt you, because there are people out there like me who will stand for making the medical field a safer and better place! Don't let people try to sell you the idea that your sickness is because of "bad karma" or that your "low vibes" or something silly like that because the truth is, you get sick because you are alive. Cherish being alive in all of its forms.
Fair winds friends!
And remember, if you took nothing away from this I will say it again, Cherish being alive in all of its forms.

Foraged elderberries.
An interesting little plant. Elderberry is one of the most commonly used medicinal plants in the world. It is most often taken to treat cold and flu symptoms. I try to keep a jar of elderberry syrup in the fridge in case of coughs and colds. Also good on pancakes.
However, the raw berries, bark, and leaves of the tree are poisonous. They contain high levels of cyanide-inducing glycosides, which can cause nausea and vomiting and may lead to death in high enough quantities.
Many fruits, particularly berries, actually contain trace amounts of cyanide. Most famously, apples contain some in their seeds. However, to actually die, you'd need to eat and chew slightly more than 250000 seeds, which is pretty impractical.
Elderberries in particular contain about 3mg of cyanide per 100g, and you'd need about .5 grams of cyanide to kill a person, so, 16666g of elderberries is enough to kill you. Also impractical.
This isn't to say it's a good idea to eat loads of them. You'll still puke your guts out.

my muses except i assign them to loose leaf tea flavors i currently have in my house
please read my posts about tea i have kind of what my detractors might call an obsession.
apple cinnamon french toast - currently my second favorite tea. delightfully sweet and bold, has a strong smell and a rich taste. i would assign this tea to roland fortis!
savannah sunrise - citrusy but not too strong, a very clear and vibrant tasting tea. it's new to me so i haven't had much of it. i would assign this tea to ty lee!
lavender raspberry honeybush - a very subtle but rich fruity tea, easy to brew and drink at any temperature. i would assign this tea to cahir mawr dyffryn aep ceallach!
blue lady grey - very strong and unique tasting, sort of not what you expect upon seeing it but a very memorable tea. i would assign this tea to roy mayrana!
tangerine ginger - extremely flavorful but VERY heavy on the ginger flavor. if i drink it in the wrong mood it feels sort of like i'm being attacked but i actually like the way it looks and smells a lot. i would assign this tea to stella!
peach ginger detox gold - actually very good, has a more muted flavor than you'd think but the low brewing temperature means it's easier to drink fast. the ginger is also not noticeable in here. i would assign this tea to pleasant clemens!
pacific peppermint - smells almost exactly like a candy cane. tastes like a very muted candy cane. actually very good for a dessert or afternoon tea in my opinion. i would assign this tea to aurilis ayeva!
earl grey supreme - a plain tea but actually quite good as far as earl grey goes (i am an earl grey fan though). i would give this tea to mukuhara kazui.
decaf earl grey - i didn't honestly like this one that much, it was bland and taking away the caffeine is kind of detracting from earl grey in general ... i would assign this tea to vernon roche! because that man does not need to be more wired than he already is all of the time.
caramel toffee pu-erh - a VERY sweet tea with a very long brew time, but i really enjoy it as a dessert. i would assign this tea to luminous!
white cherry - it smells exactly like cough syrup. the taste is fine but i can't get over the cough syrup thing. i would assign this tea to five pebbles to help with his rot. feel better soon five pebbles!
apricot white - a VERY very good and light white tea, it's very appealing to look at and very nice to drink. i've been debating ordering some more of this. i would assign this tea to dandelion!
chocolate covered strawberries - it was alright. it actually didn't stick out to me really at all. i would assign this tea to benjamin clemens!
pomegranate green tea - a very strong tea, the pomegranate flavor really comes out and i usually drink this before my friday dnd! for that reason and because it looks a lot like blood i'm going to assign this tea to cyran azerrad kapral!
elderberry fortress herbal tea - it's a good tea and one of the only actual medicinal teas i have in the house. genuinely like it, but we save this for when we have sore throats or allergies. i would assign this to ankita culathene!
houjicha - a VERY VERY VERY good japanese green tea. my favorite tea we currently have. it's moderately sweet and nutty and amazing and i drink it almost every sunday night before bed. i would assign this tea to yanna lazaros!
moringa tulsi - why is it spicy ................ i would assign this tea to jet!
international breakfast tea - my best friend. he's like a brother to me. very plain and slightly bitter but i drink this tea every morning for breakfast. i have an industrial sized bag of this tea so i can drink it every morning for breakfast. very high in caffeine. i would assign this tea to shirogane kei!

Benefits of Elderberry for Immune Health in Adults and Children
Tumblr media
Elderberry, derived from the Sambucus tree, has been used for centuries in traditional medicine. Rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, elderberry is renowned for its immune-boosting properties, making it a popular natural remedy for adults and children. With elderberries ripening across the Northeast US right now, it seems like a timely opportunity to explore the benefits of elderberry for immune health, and how you can make elderberry syrup as a natural remedy for your family.
Immune-Boosting Properties of Elderberry
Rich in Antioxidants: Elderberries are packed with flavonoids, particularly anthocyanins, which have powerful antioxidant effects. These compounds help protect the body’s cells from oxidative stress, reducing the risk of chronic diseases and enhancing overall immune function.
High Vitamin C Content: Elderberries are an excellent source of vitamin C, a key nutrient for immune health. Vitamin C supports the production of white blood cells, which are crucial for fighting off infections. It also helps in the repair and growth of tissues, further bolstering the body’s defenses.
Anti-Inflammatory Effects: Chronic inflammation can weaken the immune system, making the body more susceptible to illness. Elderberry has natural anti-inflammatory properties, which can help reduce inflammation and support a healthier immune response.
Specific Benefits of Elderberry for Adults
Cold and Flu Relief: Studies suggest that elderberry extract can reduce the duration and severity of cold and flu symptoms. For adults, taking elderberry supplements at the onset of symptoms may help shorten recovery time by several days, making it a valuable addition to winter wellness routines.
Support During High-Stress Periods: Adults often experience periods of high stress, which can weaken the immune system. Elderberry's immune-supporting properties can be particularly beneficial during these times, helping to ward off infections when the body is most vulnerable.
Antiviral Properties: Elderberry has demonstrated antiviral effects, particularly against influenza viruses. For adults, this means a potential reduction in the severity and duration of flu symptoms, as well as a lower likelihood of complications.
Specific Benefits of Elderberry for Children
Safe and Natural Remedy: For children, elderberry is often considered a safe, natural option to support immune health, especially during the cold and flu season. It is available in various forms, including syrups and gummies, making it easy to incorporate into a child’s routine.
Enhanced Immune Response: Children’s immune systems are still developing, making them more susceptible to infections. Regular elderberry supplementation can help strengthen their immune response, potentially reducing the frequency of colds and other respiratory infections.
Soothing Effects on Coughs and Sore Throats: Elderberry is known for its soothing properties, making it effective in alleviating coughs and sore throats in children. Its gentle action makes it a preferred choice for parents seeking natural remedies.
What is Elderberry Syrup?
Elderberry syrup is a popular form of elderberry supplementation due to its convenience, potency, and effectiveness. Here are several reasons why people choose elderberry syrup:
1. Concentrated Dosage
Elderberry syrup is made by boiling elderberries to extract their beneficial compounds, resulting in a concentrated form of the fruit. This allows for a higher dosage of the active ingredients, such as antioxidants and vitamins, in a smaller serving. A teaspoon or two of syrup provides a potent dose of immune-boosting nutrients.
2. Ease of Use
Syrup is easy to incorporate into daily routines. It can be taken directly by the spoonful or added to beverages like water, tea, or smoothies. This versatility makes it a convenient option for both adults and children.
3. Palatability
Elderberry syrup is often sweetened with honey, making it more palatable, especially for children. The sweetness balances the tartness of elderberries, resulting in a pleasant flavor that can make taking it more enjoyable.
4. Quick Absorption
The liquid form of elderberry syrup is absorbed more quickly by the body compared to capsules or gummies. This means that its immune-boosting effects can be felt sooner, which is particularly beneficial during the onset of cold or flu symptoms.
5. Natural and Preservative-Free
High-quality elderberry syrups are often made with minimal ingredients, usually just elderberries, water, and a natural sweetener like honey or maple syrup. This makes it a natural and preservative-free option, which is appealing to those looking to avoid artificial additives.
How to Make Your Own Elderberry Syrup
Now that you know about the immune-boosting benefits of elderberries, and how elderberry syrup can be a delicious and easy way to incorporate this natural remedy into your life, let’s learn how to make it!
Ingredients
1 cup elderberries (dried) or 2 cups fresh elderberries
4 cups water
2 cinnamon sticks (or 1 tsp. ground cinnamon)
1 cup honey (raw honey preferred)
In a medium saucepan, combine elderberries, water, and cinnamon sticks.
Heat on medium heat until the mixture starts to boil. Reduce heat to simmer and cover with a lid.
Simmer for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until the syrup is reduced by about half.
Remove from heat and allow it to cool for 10-15 minutes. Pour the syrup through a fine mesh strainer into a glass bowl. Use the back of a spoon to squeeze any remaining juice out of the berries. Discard the elderberries.
Allow the elderberry syrup to cool completely before whisking in the honey.
Add the honey and stir until it dissolves into the mixture.
Pour completed syrup into a glass mason jar, add a lid, and store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. For longer storage, freeze syrup in ice cube trays, and thaw whenever you need them.
Notes:
Makes about 3 cups of elderberry syrup. Suggested Use: Children over 1 year of age can take ½ - 1 teaspoon a day. Adults can take 1 tablespoon per day as a preventative, and increase to every 2-3 hours if you feel an illness coming on. Recipe from artfulhomemaking.com
Considerations and Usage
While elderberries offer numerous benefits, it’s important to use it properly. Raw elderberries are toxic and should never be consumed; they must be cooked or processed into supplements, syrups, or extracts.  Elderberry syrup is generally safe for all ages, making it a family-friendly option. However, it should not be given to children under the age of one.  Most elderberry syrups contain honey, and honey should not be given to infants due to the risk of botulism.
Another immune-boosting strategy we use in our clinic is Immune Essentials by Celarity. It contains N-Acetyl Cysteine, Zinc, Quercetin, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Vitamin D to defend your body against viral and bacterial infections, as well as recover faster.  We like to use this, and then add in Elderberry syrup as a natural immune booster during times when flu, colds, and other illnesses are prevalent.
Conclusion
Elderberry is a powerful natural remedy that can support immune health in both adults and children. Its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral properties make it an effective tool for preventing and managing colds, flu, and other respiratory infections.
Elderberry syrup is an effective and enjoyable way to harness the immune-boosting benefits of elderberries. Its concentrated dosage, quick absorption, and natural ingredients make it a preferred choice for many people looking to support their immune health, including our family. Whether used as a daily supplement or as a targeted remedy during illness, elderberry can be a valuable addition to any health regimen, helping to keep the immune system strong and resilient year-round.

hey look, chapter 15 of aces and oh's is finally out. Please don't kill me for having weird shapeshifter biology be borderline omegaverse. I am a sucker for that trope. I'm more so into the politics of that trope rather than the sexy stuff. But in the AO3 version, theres sexy stuff for you pervs.
Chapter Fifteen (At home with the ghosts at the national parks.)
Atlas’s POV:
Everyone else had gotten over the sickness except for Kenz, who no matter how much cold medicine I put in them, they seemed to get worse. I paced back and forth, pondering why this was the case. Their fever refused to break and all they would do was sleep. I sighed as I paced over to the herb garden where the wildcats had raided all my herbs. It was too late in the season to start growing them again, as seeds need to be sewn in the spring. We’re gonna be off for a harsh winter without cold and flu remedies if those cats keep raiding our herbs. I harshly sighed as I transformed into my cat form, patrolling non-clan territory for herbs. The cats took what was left of my licorice. I gritted my teeth as I found some dried patches of licorice. The roots should still be good.
I picked the roots out of the ground and sniffed around for feverfew, mallow, coltsfoot, and catmint. I picked several elderberries from a wild elder tree for elderberry syrup. I gave a heaving sigh as I couldn’t find any other herbs throughout this specific patch of forest. How far does Clan territory reach? I brought my herbs to my room and made some elderberry syrup for Kenz’s cough. “Here. Drink this.” I gave a large dose to Kenz, who needed it the most.
I took the herb search elsewhere in the woods beside the Gravity Falls lake. To my relief, I found what I needed in abundance in these woods. I harvested as much as I needed, taking the feverfew, catmint, tansy, mallow, and coltsfoot back to the shack to make into tea for Kenz. I gave Kenz some more elderberry cough syrup and gave them the tea I made. Kenz’s color started to return to their face, but their fever continued to rage at a boiling 104.
Kenz’s pupils were narrow as they stuck their tongue out drooling. I could sense in their mind that the fever was racking their thoughts and mental capacity, causing them to hallucinate. “None of that is real.” I reassured them, deciding to help them get in the tub for a bath since they could hardly stand without staggering.
I took their shirt off and found a nasty rash starting on their neck and spreading down their scarred back before tapering off on their legs. The rash was full of red spots that tingled on Kenz’s skin. Kenz mewled as I tried to turn on the barely warm water on them. “I-it’s boiling!!!” Kenz’s face turned an even brighter red. They must have chickenpox. I remember that I am immune due to having been vaccinated with my sister by the Axolotl. Kenz was vaccinated. I don’t know why they are showing symptoms. I called Ford to come in and examine the rash. “I think it’s chickenpox. But Kenz must have been vaccinated.”
Ford shook his head and rubbed a cotton swab on the rash, much to Kenz’s protests. “Dipper broke into the same rash a few days ago and is doing a lot better now. I don’t think Kenz is as lucky. I think this is something much worse.” Ford rubbed the swab in an agar dish as I started to gently sud up the rash. “What sort of paranormal rash is this?”
“I’m not sure. I don’t know how it went through the whole house without showing up. I guess most of us have had it before. It looks like goose pox, chickenpox’s less tame cousin that doesn’t cause shingles. It has a lot of different strains so reinfection is possible. But once you have had one strain, symptoms are milder. Kenz isn’t used to living here, so there’s some diseases that they will catch that are found nowhere else.”
“Is goose pox like chickenpox where it’s really bad to get it as an adult?”
“For the first infection, yes.” Ford adjusted his glasses as Kenz snarled at him for coming near them. “It can cause aggression sometimes.”
“I’m sure that’s just Kenz’s normal hatred for you.” I sighed as Kenz started biting the rash on their back like a mangy dog. I pulled their head away and gave them some Lavender in their bath to soothe them. They submerged themself in the water and decided to just breathe through their gills on their neck. I sighed as Kenz chewed on the lavender sprigs in the bath, soothing their feverish mind. “Yes. Chew the lavender. Not the rash.” I decided not to use any harsh soap on the rash. Instead, I used some natural soap weed known for making a soapy substance when wet. Kenz took a bite out of the weed and chewed on it more in their typical “I must chews on everything” fashion.
I drained the tub and lifted them out. They bit me and insisted that they could get out on their own, only to fall on their back and struggle to get up again like a flipped over turtle. Ford stifled a laugh as I helped them up. “Kenz. Your brain is too scrambled to do anything.”
“Nyah!!! Your brain is too… Fuck…” Kenz coughed up some phlegm into the toilet and tried to bite me again. “Teeth tingle… Must chomps!!!” Kenz started to bite the shower curtains as I gave them a solid block of ice with a mouse frozen in it for them to chew on. They gritted their teeth on the ice and chewed on it, which kept them occupied long enough for me to put on their frog onesie.
Dipper walked in, hearing Kenz’s feral growling. I sighed as Dipper seemed a bit drowsy. “Hey.”
“Hey.” Dipper scratched at a rash on his forearm, which looked more like an allergic reaction than the rash on Kenz’s back. I checked Kenz over once more, seeing that the rash looked more like small pustules oozing with pink fluid that reeked badly. The pustules were on the back of their neck, wrists, forehead and ankles as well. They gritted their teeth and transformed into a coyote, snapping at us to get out of their bed. I shrugged and went to my own bed, but Dipper was passed out and didn’t budge. Kenz gritted their teeth, getting into their boxes with their sharp teeth. They gently started carrying more plushies and blankets to their bed, arranging them in a peculiar way that resembled a nest. I saw them drag a massive frog plush half the size of their human body to the bed, which I presumed they ordered with some of the inheritance that Mom left them (Mom surprisingly was widowed by her ex husband at the time of her death who was super rich. She only used the funds for her medical treatment and split it with the three of her children after her death in her will. Kenz spent some of it on plushies.)
Kenz transformed into their cattle dog/labrador mix form and barked loudly at Dipper, who buried his head in a pile of moth plushies. Kenz barked again, pawing at Dipper to get out of his nest. “Kenz. I took some benadryl and you know how that stuff makes people sleepy.” Dipper slurred, seemingly out of it. “Geez. How much did you take?”
“Enough.” Dipper whined, showing me the bottle. “This is industrial strength benadryl.”
“I almost had an anaphylactic reaction to a banana.” Dipper groaned. “I’m getting a ton of weird allergies lately. Like I’d be allergic to something one day and would be completely fine with it the next. I think it’s a complication of whatever bug was going around the house.” Dipper started scratching at his skin. “Dipper. Don’t scratch.” I put some hydrocortisone cream on the rash as Dipper started to lean in the direction of Kenz and fall asleep. He swatted at something in his sleep before falling still. I checked the benadryl bottle and checked the dosage. “Dipper, how much did you take? Because it says here one pill contains 500 milligrams.”
“Three pills. Why?” Dipper muttered in a half asleep daze. I shook him as Kenz sniffed the benadryl bottle and barked loudly. They sat on their haunches and pointed at the bottle like a drug detecting dog. “Kenz, what are you saying?”
Kenz transformed back into their human from and showed me that the label was peeling off. They peeled off the label to reveal another. It had the Das Flavor Pups logo and was labeled “Partydryl.” which was just really large benadryl pills with extra Diphenhydramine in it to get the “party rush.”
“Oh no!!! Dipper!!!” I immediately got an IV into him and started giving him some physostigmine nasally. I patted Kenz on the head as they bit my arm. “Kenz. You saved his life. Don’t bite me.”
“I don’t wanna be touched!!” Kenz growled as they rubbed their back all over their plushies, getting their stink all over them. Ford walked in with a piece of paper. “The good news is, whatever’s going on with Kenz is not a viral illness like we originally suspected.”
“So what’s the bad news?”
“The bad news is that whatever we all came down with had some complications with Kenz’s thyroid regulation. They’re currently going through a hormonal surge similar to dogs in heat. Those pustules? They’re scent glands releasing scents.” Ford grimaced as he shot his glance at Dipper. “What happened to him?” “Bad case of benadryl spiders. He accidentally took the wrong dose due to his allergies and took the wrong kind used by college kids to get high. Where did he even find this?” My lip curled at the bottle as I threw it in the trash. “The CVS backrooms.” Kenz snarled, sinking their teeth into the massive frog plush and thrashing their head. “Kenz!! Knock it off!!” Ford pried Kenz’s head off the frog plush only for them to bite him instead. “Kenz isn’t keen on touch right now.” I poured some warm water where Kenz was biting and they instinctively let go to take a sip. They went back to biting the pillows. “Kenz. You’re gonna accidentally shred things.”
Kenz whined and started rolling in their plushies. “Kenz. Can you maybe…” The words didn’t come to my mouth as I sighed. “It’s getting late. Maybe you should take your meds and go to bed?” I suggested as Kenz seemingly snapped out of whatever trance they were currently stuck in and went over to their desk where they kept their meds and took them. They went back over to their nest of plushies and blankets before transforming into a coyote and bolting outside. They came back with a massive leaf half the size of their body covered in eggs the size of Ford’s hands, along with their fur roughed up and covered in a sticky substance. They put the eggs in the center of the nest and curled protectively over them. “Hey Kenz?”
Kenz transformed into a massive cobra and flared their hood at Ford, hissing and faking strikes. “Kenz. Why did you steal those eggs? You’re not exactly in the position to be a parent.”
Kenz didn’t respond and went to sleep in their human form, curled up around the eggs. Their back was covered in scales of a strange creature and they stank of flowers and nectar. Ford approached them as they protectively curled over the eggs. “Kenz has never been this keen to be a parent before.”
“Exactly. I have seen how they run away from Soos’s son at every opportunity.” Ford seemed really concerned for Kenz as they snarled at him for getting too close to the eggs. Ford’s gaze lit up with his typical “Oh no. Something went terribly wrong here.” expression. Kenz was slightly bleeding from their mouth and breathing harshly. “The Moth Queen.” Ford covered Kenz’s back in a lavender salve as they relaxed their posture. Ford took the eggs out from underneath them and put them back outside. “The Moth Queen?”
“Queen of all Mothmen. She must’ve picked up on Kenz’s vulnerable state. She’s basically a giant anthropomorphic moth with heavily exaggerated woman-like features. Able to hypnotize any creature who can smell her pheromones. I think Kenz got scammed into a glorified babysitter role for her offspring.” Ford’s tone was frustrated as I went over towards the eggs. “Don’t crush them!! They release a scent when crushed that summons other mothmen. And mothmen eat flesh. Sometimes human flesh. They start out as catterpillarmen watched over by highly territorial mothmen.” Ford shooed me away from the eggs as I nodded. “Kenz must’ve been at the wrong place at the wrong time.” I sighed, remembering how other monsters react to shapeshifters as a “breeder species” or the perfect species to raise their young due to their high genetic variability. The Axolotl told us how humans fear shapeshifters, but other species particularly like to view them as baby making machines. Shapeshifters, even though they are a powerful species that could easily turn on their owners, are often used in the monster fucker trade. They’re really fertile and can easily change their biology to breed with anyone. No one gives shifters the respect they deserve. Kenz is having to learn the hard way how to be careful. Very few shapeshifters are the sex hungry breeders that monster society puts them as. I gave a heaving sigh as Holly walked outside, gazing at the eggs. “Those smell suspiciously like mothmen and Kenz. Oh no.” Holly burst inside to our room as I sighed and gazed at Ford. “Shapeshifters have been fighting for their rights for millennia. It’s really sad.”
“So I’ve heard.” Ford sighed sadly and with regret. I walked back into our room as Holly was giving Kenz some lavender, chamomile, and thyme tea to soothe their overactive mind. They purred and flopped over. “Kenz, why do you have to present now? You’re getting your stinky slick everywhere.” Holly sighed and shook her head. “Who am I kidding? This must be so hard for you. It wasn’t sickness that brought this on. It was just a matter of shapeshifter puberty.” Holly brought out the whole bible long book of shapeshifter history and biology. “Atlas. You might want to have a look at this.”
She showed me the page on shifter sex. “Kenz is going through some changes. They’re nto liking it in the slightest.”
I nodded as I put Kenz’s frog warmie in the microwave to soothe their cramping body. I’m so sorry.

i've had a persistent sore throat, so my parents grabbed some cough drops for me
-The lemon/herbal ones taste like medical lemon, fine but not ideal
-The liquid filled cherry ones taste like medical cherry, which is doable, but I think the liquid is straight cough syrup
-The elderberry-cherry ones taste great, but make my mouth numb
so the original lemon/herbal ones it is lol

alright guys im sick again and you know what that means
(six of the most obnoxious airhorn sounds you've ever heard in your life)
thats right baby it's cough drop review time
before we begin i should mention that this is taste based as my attention span is too short to follow whether or not they work because my sinuses are absolute dogshit right now and i'm mostly focused on them, so! allow me to kick this off with the worst of our (official) selection. (not including 1.5)
1) doterra onguard protecting throat drops
the first thing i want to say is that if you're going to be selling snake oil, you should at least make it taste decent. maybe i'm not a cinnamon guy? anyway i don't have a lot of thoughts on these except that they felt on my tongue a bit like toothpaste. i should also mention that because i'm sick my possibly impaired taste might make these weird but i don't really care because nobody (or at least hopefully nobody) is going to be eating cough drops when they're healthy so uh yeah
i should also mention i did not buy these i stole them from my facebook wine mom. shoutout to her for providing me with these cough drops and also my therapy bills
verdict: 3/10 (they have something to them i guess)
1.5) the honey lemon cough drops from my childhood
i don't know what brand this is so it's not an official part of the list but even though i think these might have helped they were absolute dogshit.
verdict: 0/10 (not worth it)
2) ricola berry medley
this one is kind of your standard cough drop. it's not bad, but your child isn't going to be digging through your medicine cabinet trying to eat it when you haven't bought them any fruit snacks in a while. which is probably good for some parents, actually. i think they stopped working maybe 30 seconds after i finished them. no cap the only reason i havent been adding whether or not they work is because my memory is dogshit but its probably safe to say doterra didnt
verdict: 5/10 (its aight)
3) ludens wild cherry
i'm not sure i'm a cherry guy but these are pretty good otherwise! they taste sorta like cherry candy. i did take one in recent and haven't been coughing so make of that what you will, i haven't really taken it more than once yet though so i can't say whether or not it works.
verdict: 7.5/10 (i can fw this)
4) mucinex insta soothe pain relief elderberry
PEAK. i dont know what they put in this to make it taste that good but i genuinely don't care my tongue goes numb when i have them, they taste amazing. also maybe if i put it somewhat near the back of my throat when its smaller (so i dont choke) it'll numb my sore throat which is also peak. would not recommend that though as you might choke. even in taste alone though this one is easily the best, i don't remember if they actually work though
verdict: 9/10
aaand thats about all i've got so far. i will keep you guys updated on the horrible drug interactions that may occur from me having two cough drops, cough syrup, and cold pillswithin the same hour. i am very intelligent. ok bye bye besties
