The Tapestry of History, 18 – The Rise of the West, 13 – The Enlightenment, 5 – the French Revolution
(Image – Napoleon, crowned Emperor of the French, 1804, painting by David. Wikipedia) From 1792 to 1815, Europe was engulfed in a series of great conflicts resulting from the shattering consequences of the French Revolution. It is estimated that as many as ten million died in these conflicts – the most terrible war death toll in history before World War One. These wars were heavily influenced in…

This is an episode series of Cultish I listened to on hiatus, and while I know I've got LDS followers, it's geared toward Christians and I'm chiefly recommending it to my Christian followers.
These guys are part of a Reformed ministry to Mormons in Utah. They, like myself, have many Mormon friends and loved ones, so while the podcast name may seem inflammatory, it is meant to be literal & earnest, as they have immeasurable compassion not only for Mormons, but for all members of cults, from vanilla conspiracy theorists to literal Nazi colonies. They're not here to say, "Look how loony these people are," but rather, "There but for the grace of God go we."
Because their main evangelical focus is in apologetics, it's very important to them that their textual and historical information be accurate and their discussions accurately reflect the (quite diverse) views and professions of Mormons themselves.
As the LDS church's mainstream profile grows, in both negative ways--such as the countless new docudramas you can find streaming on any platform--and positive ways--such as the rise of Angel Studios--I think it's important that Christians understand what they ACTUALLY believe and how they ACTUALLY got there.
This series is by no means exhaustive (only one season is complete), but it is a great start.

The Tapestry of History, 16 – The Rise of the West, 11 – Enlightenment, 3
(Image – William WIlberforce, leader of “the Clapham Sect, ca 1807 at the time of the abolition of the Slave Trade in the British Empire) As we near the end of the first quarter of the 21st Century, the West is in a deep identity crisis. Can it survive? 0r, like its great and original predecessor, ancient Rome, will it succumb to the “barbarians” who are lusting for its demise? As Arnold…

It is important to understand that real knowledge is of the heart. Real wisdom is what we live. Real knowledge comes from experience, and more importantly, that experience of higher realities comes when we investigate our own heart, our own mind, our ways of living, and to look, not to assume that we know, “I am of this race, this culture, this religion, this belief system, these politics, this upbringing.” It means to really look at what is inside in terms of our emotions, our impulses, our will.
This active looking is precisely what every tradition teaches about meditation: to look, to observe, to acquire new information―not to assume that we already know who we are, but to be open and to watch in a state of stillness, of observation, of clarity. It is that inner discrimination of ourselves that really helps us to distinguish right from wrong. It is our heart, our conscience, that tells us what is right and what is wrong. We may have traditions that tell us these things, but what do we know in our being about what to do? ― especially when we are faced with situations that are so complex that we are baffled. We are confused. We are overwhelmed, like you heard in Carmina Burana. When fate hits, the hammer of karma, of hardship, strikes, and we find all of those things that we typically ignore come to the surface of our mind, things we may neglect or fail to look at.

ides of march is closing out and i am once again begging writers and artists to consider utilizing classical themes or parallels and/or roman mythology in amrev projects. y'all are so talented it's insane.
art of them wearing togas? the founding fathers' wet dream. these men didn't stop thinking about the roman empire. literally their roman empire.
fanfic of them with heavy parallels to classical heroes or duos? once again, canon. they went around calling each other "caesar", "colossus", "cattaline" and writing under roman pseudonyms for christ's sake.
