#Even Boosts Up Your Immune System

Friends, I think we need to talk about Covid.

I want to get a few caveats out there before I start:

I am aware that there are people who need to exercise extreme caution about Covid; I live with someone who has two solid organ transplants and who is at the most immune compromised level of immune compromised. *I* have to be extremely cautious about covid.

Masking does prevent a certain level of transmission, and people who think they may have covid should mask and people who are concerned that they may be at high risk for covid should mask.

You should be vaccinated and boosted with the most recent vaccines that are available to you; covid is highly transmissible and very serious, you do not want to get covid and if you do get covid you don't want it to be severe and if you do get covid you don't want to give someone else covid and up-to-date vaccinations are the best way to reduce transmission and help to prevent severe cases of Covid.

We should be testing before going to any gatherings, and informing people if we test positive after gatherings, and testing if we suspect we have been exposed.

It is bullshit that there aren't good protections for workers who have covid; you should not be expected to go to work when you are testing positive

It is bullshit that people who are testing positive are not isolating for other reasons; if you have Covid you should not be going out and exposing other people to it even if you are experiencing mild symptoms or no symptoms.

We do need better ventilation systems for many kinds of spaces. Schools need better ventilation, restaurants need better ventilation, doctor's offices and hospitals and office buildings need better ventilation and better ventilation can reduce covid transmission.

I want to make it clear that Covid is real and there are real steps that individuals and systems can take to prevent transmission, and that there are systems that are exerting pressures that needlessly expose people to covid (the fact that you can lose your job if you don't come in when you're testing positive, mainly; also the fact that covid rapid tests should be ubiquitous and cheap/free and are not).

All of that being said: I'm seeing some posts circulating about how we're at an extremely high level of transmission and the REAL pandemic is being hidden from us and, friends, I'm pretty sure that is just incorrect and we're spreading misinformation.

I'm thinking of this video in particular, in which the claim is made that "your mystery illness is covid" in spite of negative tests. The guy in the video says that there's nothing else that millions of people could be getting a day, and that he predicted this because a wastewater spike in December meant that there was a huge spike in cases.

I've also seen people saying that deaths are where they were in 2021-2022, and that we're still at "a 9/11 a week" of excess deaths and friends, I'm not seeing great evidence for any of these claims.

I know that we (in the US, which is where the numbers I'm going to be citing are from) feel abandoned by the CDC and the fact that tracking cut off in May of 2023. But that only cut off for the federal tracking.

I live in LA county and LA county sure as shit is still tracking Covid.

Okay, you might say, but people are testing less. If they're testing less of course we're not seeing spikes, and they're testing less because fewer tests are available.

Alright, people are definitely testing less than they were in 2021 and 2022. Hospitalization for Covid is probably the most clear metric because you know those people have covid for sure, the couldn't not test for it.

As vaccination rates have gone up, cases, deaths, and hospitalizations have gone down. It IS clear that there are case spikes in the winter, when it is cold and people are indoors in poorly ventilated spaces and people are more susceptible to respiratory infections as a result of cold air weakening the protection offered by our mucous membranes, and that is something that we will have to take precautions about for the forseeable future, just as we should have always been taking similar precautions during flu season.

So I want to go point-by-point through some of the arguments made in that video because I'm seeing a bunch of people talking about how "THEY" don't want you to know about the virus surge and buds that is just straight up conspiracism.

So okay, first off, most of what that video is based on is spikes in wastewater data, not spikes in cases. This is because people don't trust CDC data on cases, but I'd say to maybe check out your regional data on cases. I don't actually trust the CDC that much, but I know people who do tracking of hospitalizations in LA county, I trust them a lot more. Wastewater data does correlate with increases in cases, but this "second largest spike of the entire pandemic" thing is misleading; wastewater reporting is pretty highly variable and you can't just accept that a large spike in covid in wastewater means that we're in just as bad a place in the pandemic as we were in 2022. We simply have not seen the surge of hospitalizations and deaths that we would expect to see in the weeks following that spike in wastewater data if wastewater data was reflective of community transmission.

The next claim is that "there is nothing else that is infecting millions of people a day" and covid isn't doing that either. The highest daily case rates were in January of 2021 and they were in the 865k a day range, which is ridiculously high but isn't millions of cases a day.

But what we can see is that when people are tested by their doctors for Covid, RSV, and the Flu, more tests are coming back positive for the Flu. Covid causes more hospitalizations than the other two illnesses, but to be honest what the people in the video are describing - lightheadedness, dizziness, exhaustion - just sound like pretty standard symptoms of everything from covid to the cold to allergies. There are lots of things your mystery illness could be.

The video goes on to talk about the fact that people aren't testing, and why their tests may be coming back negative and I'd like to point out that the same things are all true of Flu or RSV tests. People might be getting tested too early or too late; getting a negative test for the flu isn't a good reason to assume you've got covid, getting a negative test for covid isn't a good reason to assume you've got the flu, and testing for viruses as a whole is imperfect. There are hundreds of viruses that could be the common cold; there are multiple viruses that can cause bronchitis; there are multiple viruses that can cause pneumonia, and you're not going to test for all of these things the moment you start feeling sick.

He then recommends testing for multiple days if you have symptoms and haven't had a positive test (fine) and talks about the location of the tests (less fine). Don't use your rapid tests to swab your throat or cheek unless it specifically says that they are designed to do so. Test based on the instructions in the packet.

He points out that the tests probably still pick up on the virus because they're not testing for the spike protein, they're testing for the RNA (good info!)

The video then discusses something that I think is really key to this paranoia about the "mystery illnesses" - he talks about how covid changes and weakens your immune system (a statement that should come with many caveats about severity and vulnerability and that we are still researching that) and then says that it makes you more susceptible to strep or mono and that "things that used to clear in a day or two now hit you really hard."

And that's where I think this anxiety is coming from.

Strep throat lasts anywhere from three days to a week. A cold takes about a week to clear. The flu lasts about a week and can knock you on your ass with exhaustion for weeks depending on how bad you get it. Did you get a cough with your cold? Expect that to take anywhere from three to eight weeks to clear up.

I think that people are thinking "i got a bad virus and felt really sick for a week and haven't gotten my energy back" but that just sounds like a bad cold. That sounds like a potent allergy attack. That doesn't even sound like a bad flu (I got a bad flu in 2009 and thought i was going to straight-up die I had a fever of 103+ for three days and felt like shit for three days on either side of that and took six weeks to feel more like myself again).

Getting sick sucks. It really, really sucks. But if you're getting sick and you're testing for covid and it's coming back negative after you tested a few times, it's almost certainly not covid.

The video then says "until someone provides evidence that it's not covid, it should be assumed to be covid because we have record levels of covid it's that simple" but that's not simple. We don't have record levels of covid and he hasn't proved it. We have record high levels of wastewater reports of covid, which correlates with covid cases but the spike in wastewater noted in december didn't see a spike with a corresponding magnitude of cases in terms of either hospitalizations or deaths, which is what we'd have seen if we had actual record numbers of covid.

He says that if you want to ignore this, you'll get sick with covid, and that about 30-40% of the US just got sick with covid in the last four months (which is a RIDICULOUSLY unevidenced claim).

He says that we need to create a new normal that takes covid into account, which means masking more often and testing more often and making choices about risk-avoidant behaviors.

Now, I don't disagree with that last statement, but he prefaces the statement with "it doesn't necessarily mean lockdown" and that's where I think the alarmism and paranoia is really visible here. We are so, so far away from "lockdown" type levels that it's absurd to discuss lockdown here.

What I'm seeing right now is people who are chronically ill, people who are immune compromised, and people who are experiencing long covid (which may not be distinct from other post-viral syndromes from severe cases of flu, etc, but which may be more severe or more notable because of the prevalence of covid) are talking about feeling abandoned and attacked and left behind by society because covid is still out there, and still at extremely high levels.

I am seeing people who feel abandoned and attacked because the lgbtq+ events they are attending don't require masking. I am seeing people who are claiming that it is eugenicist that their schools don't have a negative test policy anymore.

And this comes together into two really disconcerting trends that I've been observing online for a while.

The claim that the pandemic is still as bad as it's ever been and in fact may be worse but we can't know that because "they" (the CDC, the government, capitalist institutions that want you back in the office, the university industrial complex that wants your dorm room dollars) are covering up the numbers and

Significant grievance at the fact that people are acting like number one is not true and are putting you at risk either out of thoughtlessness (because they don't realize they're putting you at risk) or malice (because they don't care if the sick die).

And those things are a recipe for disaster.

I think I've pretty robustly addressed point one; I don't think that there's good evidence that there's a secretly awful surge of covid that nobody is talking about. I think that there are some people who are being alarmist about covid who are basing all of their concern on wastewater numbers that have not held up as the harbinger of a massive wave of infections.

So let's talk about point number two and JK Rowling.

Barnes and Noble is not attacking you when it puts up a Hogwarts Castle display in the lobby. Your favorite youtuber isn't trying to hurt you when they offhandedly mention Harry Potter.

If you let every mention of Harry Potter or every person who enjoys that media franchise wound you, you are going to spend a lot of your time wounded.

People are not liking Harry Potter at you.

Okay.

People are also not not wearing masks at you.

You may be part of a minority group that experiences the potential for outsized harm as a result of majority groups engaging in perfectly reasonable behaviors.

There are kind, well-meaning, sensible people who go out every day and do something that may cause you harm and it's not because they want to hurt you or they don't care about whether you live or die, it is because they are making their own risk assessments based on their own lives and making the very reasonable assumption that people who are more concerned about covid than they are will take precautions to keep themselves safe.

We are not at a place in the pandemic where it is sensible to expect people with no symptoms of illness to mask in public as a matter of course or to present evidence of a recent negative test when entering a public building in their day-to-day life.

I think now is a really good time to sit down and ask yourself how you expect things to be with covid as an endemic part of our viral ecosystem. I think now is a good time to ask yourself what risk realistically looks like for you and for people who are unlike you. I think now is a good time to consider what would feel "safe" for you and how you could accomplish feeling safe as you navigate the world.

I'm probably going to continue masking in most indoor spaces for years. Maybe forever. There are accommodations that SHOULD be afforded to people who have to take more precautions than others (remote learning, remote visits, remote work, etc.), and we should demand those kinds of accommodations.

But it is going to poison you from the inside out if you are perpetually angry that people who don't have the same medical limitations as you are happy that they get to go shopping with their faces uncovered.

So now I want to talk to you about my father in law.

My father in law had a bone marrow transplant in 2015. That's the most immune compromised you can get without having your organs swapped out.

The care sheet for him after the transplant was a little overwhelming. The list of foods he couldn't eat was intimidating and the limitations on where he could go was depressing. It cautioned against going to large events, it recommended outdoor gatherings where possible but only if he could avoid sunlight and was somewhere with no history of valley fever. It said that he should wear masks indoors any time he was someplace with poor ventilation and that he should avoid contact with anyone who had an illness of any kind, taking special note to avoid children and anyone recently vaccinated for measles.

It was, in short, pretty much what someone immune compromised would need to do to try to avoid a viral infection. Sensible. Reasonable. Wash your hands and social distance; wear masks in sensitive contexts and don't spend time in enclosed places with people who have a communicable illness.

This is what life was always going to be like for people who are severely immune compromised, and it was always going to be incumbent upon the person with the illness to figure out how to operate in a society that is not built with them in mind.

It is not the job of every parent I encounter to tell me whether their child has been vaccinated against measles or chicken pox in the last three months. That isn't something that people need to do as part of their everyday life. However it IS my responsibility to check with the parents I'm hanging out with whether their children have been vaccinated against measles or chicken pox in the last three months so I know if it's safe for my immune compromised spouse to be around them.

If you want an environment in which you feel safe from covid, at this point in the pandemic (when the virus is endemic and not spreading rapidly as far as we can see from case counts) it is your responsibility to take the steps necessary to make you feel safe. Some of those steps will involve advocating for safety improvements in public spaces (again, indoor ventilation needs to be better and I'm personally pretty extreme about vaccination requirements; these are things we should be discussing in our school board meetings and at our workplaces), some of those steps will involve advocating for worker protections, guaranteed sick time, and the right to healthcare. But some of the things you're going to need to do to feel safe are going to come down to you.

If you are concerned about communicable diseases you have to be realistic about the fact that our society doesn't go out of its way to prevent communicable diseases - norovirus among food service workers pre-pandemic is pretty clear evidence of that. You are going to have to be proactive about your safety rather than expecting the world to act like Covid is at 2021-2022 levels when it is measurably not.

something that I haven't really seen being talked about/mentioned is that Tim having some of the Lazarus Pit's water inside his body and it's side effects (if there's any), like, would minor wounds and injuries not affect Tim even though he doesn't have a spleen? does he heal faster? run faster? better stamina or flexibility?? did he get stronger?? does he have shorter temper? does his eyes flicker Lazarus green when feeling strong, negative emotions or does he sometimes hear it's whispers when he's feeling strong, negative emotions??

Hmm... is this the hc/au idea that Ra's, to "help" Tim post splenectomy, injects or feeds Tim some Pit water?

It's not a full dip, so the effects are drastically reduced, but it still changes Tim.

I've barely seen this AU, but there are two reasons Ra's could have done this.

He genuinely wants to help Tim (not out of the goodness of his heart, though)

This would lead Tim to be susceptible to influence/manipulation

This does depend on your HCs for Lazarus Pit effects. The overall canon rule is that it heals the dying and kills the healthy. Other than that? Canon is all over the place.

So, do people post-dip enjoy enhanced strength, healing, stamina, and flexibility? Are their anger or all emotions heightened? Do they have the cool mood ring light up eyes? It is up to you ^^

I did like the idea you proposed of injected Pit water giving Tim a boosted immune system/healing speed. However, I also like the idea that Pit effects fade.

Therefore, Tim slowly becomes sicker and weaker as he becomes more susceptible to illness ^^ He can either inject himself with more Pit water or find an alternative (like taking more break, changing his diet, taking antibiotics, etc).

What if Ra's regularly sent him Pit injections to help him combat his lack of spleen? This could be a way that Tim owes Ra's or a manipulation technique. Maybe Tim has to pay back the "medicine" (through passing along information, running leadership like tasks, doing missions, or whatever).

The Vamp!Rhys brain rot is taking over; here are some headcanons I don't know what to do with:

Vamp!Rhys who cooks you dishes from his childhood, using recipe books written in the faded script of his mother's hand writing. He loves doing it because food no longer tastes the same to him and watching you enjoy something is as close to he can get in indulging in it. But times have changed and sometimes getting his hands on particular spices is damn near impossible so he improvises and then asks you, his very human, partner if it tastes right. You can only stare at him because how are you supposed to know what a thousand year old dish should taste like?

Vamp!Rhys who absolutely refuses to let you get sick. He's constantly making you ancient herbal teas to boost your immune system and making sure you eat all the right things. Mother forbid you even start to sniffle because he immediately tears his fangs through his wrist to feed you his blood so you're cured instantly. Sometimes you forget that he was turned in an age where a common cold could kill someone in a couple days. He's old, he doesn't really know how the human immune system works or evolves, he'd rather not take any chances with you.

Vamp!Rhys who is so used to his immortal strength that he's always putting the lids on things way too tight so you can never open anything in the house. You have to wake him up to open anything in a jar, which amuses him to no end. Some days you think he does it on purpose but you can't prove it.

Vamp!Rhys, who speaks a dozen different dead languages, sometimes can't remember what an item is called and will point at it and say what he thinks it is in each language until he finds the right word.

Vamp!Rhys who plans dinner dates, but you're still on a very human schedule so you're ready by 6 pm and he's still sound asleep in bed because a dinner date with a vampire is around 3 am.

Vamp!Rhys who gets very concerned that you keep asking him if you look ok when you get ready to go out so he goes out of his way to make sure you know how beautiful you are only to realize several months later that you've been asking because he doesn't have any mirrors, since he can't see himself in them and gave up on trying centuries ago (he's still somehow always impeccably put together despite this).

• Please cuddle with him so he knows you're not going anywhere. He fears that, because you're a human, you may get worse, and he's practically terrified at the thought of losing you.

• He may read to you if you ask nicely, especially if you like classic literature, then he may be persuaded. (I fucking love classic literature so now everyone had to suffer because of it.)

• He will also take you to the lake during the day when it's warm. You can relax in the water and get some sun, it's a win-win.

• All together, Rain is a sweetheart and will do anything and everything in his power to make sure you have a speedy and smooth recovery.

You counted down the minutes you had been staying in the lab. Not only had you been sick for the third time this month, you’d also been made to stay in the lab with mostly avatars, and other human scientists of course.

As much as you appreciate their care, you can’t help but feel bored. With the absence of your friends and even anyone remotely your age, you sit aside in an unused room, not exactly sure on what it’s for, some scientists simply just left you there to quarantine for awhile.

You slump in the office chair, getting bored of rolling around back and forth across the room. And then, a voice sticks out to you and differentiates itself from the background noise.

“Where is she?”

“Neteyam?” That’s Norm, why’s Neteyam here though? You assumed he would be busy with training, and if not, why would he be thinking about you?

“Uh, they’re sick.” You missed a little bit of the conversation.

“Again?”

You strain your neck trying to get a glimpse of their figures, they both stand a few metres away, but still close enough for you to hear the conversation.

“Yea. Nothing too serious, but she’s just been tired, Jake figured she’d be more comfortable here.”

“Where are they?” Neteyams eyes wander the room filled of avatars. Norm looks towards your room, eyes locking to yours.

You squeak, immediately turning away at the thought of being caught eavesdropping, but you still pick up on the next few words.

“Over there, take your time.”

The footsteps coming towards you are immediately familiar. “You’re here again?”

With a turn of your office chair you face him. “Yea, almost a second home at this point.”

But he won’t be away too long either, and is quick to pick you up from that lavish bed of silk again - having you close yet again. This deity is so doting!

Important Update

Thankfully, as of Sunday, her symptoms started to improve, but we still went ahead with the stool sample to make sure that her immune system had finally kicked in and was fighting off the cocci on its own. Results today showed that the sample was now negative, which means we don't have to worry about any medication right now. That said $79.50 (receipt is screenshotted and included) is still a major blow when you've only got $140 to your name and no guarantee of employment and no other assistance.

So. I appreciate everyone who has shared this post and the individual who donated (and thanks to that individual, this is no where near as urgent now)! If anyone the ability to help me cover the rest of the cost I would super appreciate it and it would help a lot, but otherwise I'm not in panic mode at the moment.

I'm a disabled neurodivergent transmasc who is currently in unemployment hell because the few jobs I am physically capable of and meet all of the requirements for are also coincidentally all the jobs that either don't want to hire me, or just straight up won't get back to me. Catra recently got extremely ill to the point of needing to be hospitalized, which meant that between me and my family, she has recently cost well over $3000. At this point, my family cannot afford to help me with any more medical costs for her, and I can't afford to continue with extra medical costs for her if I want to still be able to feed her until I do manage to get a job. Thankfully she has made a very strong recovery, for the most part...

However, she is also now battling a nasty coccidia infection that seems to be resistant to the medication the vets had given her. He makes sure you take the correct amount of medicine every certain hour. He can even write it down in a paper so you remember, as he might be working. (Every break he has he spends it with you)

Every time he goes to work, he places a cold cloth on your forehead (or warm, depending on what you may need), and once he comes back for the break, he will change it for another if you wish.

Will lift your mood with moderate humour (and will also whine about work, which is a funny sight)

Definitely will give you tea with honey. Honey is a good antibacterial so it might help against any infection! It also might help to boost your immune system, so he insists on taking it. He will also drink it with you just to taste and enjoy the honey and your company!

Ezarel isn’t really restricting when taking care of you, as he knows that you are strong and you will be able to recover, no matter how long it takes. Of course he isn’t allowing you to work hard, since you need rest, but if you need something that requires little effort, then he allows it. He knows the impotence of not being capable of doing much.

“Humans are so weak…” and then he takes care of you as he never took care of nobody else before. You are his human.

Hey, you will get free forehead kisses when he checks your temperature :3.

He is very patient with you, and keep doing his teasing every now and then, but he is mainly gentle and calm as he thinks that the last thing you need is a lot of energy at that moment.

The only bad thing is that he won’t kiss your mouth much since he appreciates his well-being. But don’t worry, once you finally recover he will fill you up with kisses.

He has taken care of Karenn every time she got sick, and it is no bother for him at all. In fact, being able to protect her makes him feel good as he knows she is in good hands. The same goes for you. Tthough he is afraid of your fragile human body not being able to recover fast.

He is observant and can feel how your body shows signs of discomfort. When he sees you doing a slight expression of pain, his face goes from neutral to :C. His baby… how can his baby be sick…? He immediately places a hand on your back and caresses it to soothe the stress you might feel. As soon as he can he will guide you to the bathroom to wash your face or directly guide you to his room so you can rest.

That’s alright, he is gonna be there for you. Are you cold? He’s gonna cuddle with you. Are you hungry? He’s gonna ask Ewelein which things won’t hurt your stomach so you can eat in peace. Do you need to be alone? Alright… but he’s gonna be close to your door.

He gives you head massages, or belly, or back massages, only if you allow him or he sees that would be useful for you to relax.

As you sleep he is gonna be there, caressing your hair and giving soft kisses to your head and forehead, making sure that you can rest well.

Ask anything you wish from that mouth and he will give it to you.

There is gonna be a big bottle of water in the nightstand for you to stay hydrated. And speaking about hydration, he completely refuses to drink your blood as you are sick. He is well aware that if he did, it would take you longer to recover and you’d feel worse. He’s definitely NOT doing it.

Cancels almost all his plans just to be with you. If there is anything important, he will go, but immediately comes back to you. 

He’s gonna place all the blankets he finds over you.

Definitely does things for you. What if you try to move from bed and your legs fall or something? No. You must rest.

VALKYON

He wouldn’t notice you’re sick until he sees how physically weak you are. And the moment he checks that you are sick, he is gonna feel bad for not noticing before. He will take you to see Ewelein, and then to your room so you recover.

Valkyon won’t really cuddle as you are sick, because his natural temperature is naturally really hot, so it’d overwhelm you. He’d sit on a chair besides your bed and hold your hand. Sometimes he’d fall asleep there.

You can ask anything you want and he will definitely do as you want. 

He isn’t the best cook but he definitely is capable of doing vegetable soup for you so your immune system can be stronger. He is also going to be strict with any medicine dose you need.

If you need time alone to not be overwhelmed, he can give it to you. He is aware that maybe external noise or crowded places aren’t good when you are sick, so he is even capable of making people shush when they walk across the corridor.

If you pout because you can’t cuddle with him, he’s gonna melt. But, sorry, darling… he isn’t going to do it in case you literally overcook yourself…

He’d only get closer if you are under the regular temperature, caressing your cheek or placing his hand on your belly, rubbing it. 

Kisses on your hand to cheer you up def.

He’s gonna carry you on bridal style everywhere.

He will prepare you baths, bring the meal to your bed and bring the food to your mouth <3. He’s gonna spoil you, that’s a fact.

Wanna take a bath? He is joining to give you the most relaxing massage on your shoulders. Also a lot of kisses and caresses.

When he comes back from work, he definitely brings some cookies or something to cheer you up (if you are ill from the stomach, forget about it, he will only give you tea).

LEIFTAN

Leiftan literally feels it. He knows how bad you feel as he can feel your emotions, and before he sees you he goes to Ewelein to ask about the thing that hurts you at the moment and what you should do to feel better. The moment he sees you he hugs you and tells you to go rest immediately.

He’s gonna move you to his room so he can be close to you. He focuses mainly on comforting you, humming soft melodies and  caressing your back as you rest your head on his chest. He wants you to fall asleep so your body and mind can rest.

The best time to read! He can read for you or you both can do a reading date, he is fine with both.

Imagine Leiftan spooning you as you two decide to read the same book. If you fall asleep while reading, he simply marks the page where you two are, closes the book and cuddles you until he can also fall asleep.

He’s gonna make sure that the environment is refreshing and comfortable for you. As you enjoy the warm and good bath he prepared for you, he cleans the room to not keep the human germs.

He gets fatherly in these types of situations.

He prepares a basket with warm blankets, tissue boxes, bath kit and natural remedies for your health (he hates using medicine, even if it’s needed, he doesn’t like to make your vulnerable body consume it unless very needed).

His way of checking your temperature is by pressing his forehead with yours, or cheek with cheek. A gift kiss as well because he knows you will get better soon.

LANCE 

“I told you so…”  type of guy. But that doesn’t mean that he will scold you or mock you for too long. He’d sigh and simply accept that he will have to be your caretaker.

He is anxious about your well-being. He might ask every 5 minutes how are you feeling. He doesn’t want to overwhelm you with his worries, but you’re everything that is on his mind lately. No matter if you reassure him of getting well, he’s still gonna be right there for you in high alert.

He makes Ewelein check you regularly, but even she would say that you’re not in danger… He’s just very worried, alright?

Lance would tie you up in the bed so you don’t do anything- Maybe not to that extreme but he’d definitely not allow you to do much effort.

His cold hand can be helpful to lower your temperature. He’d place it on your forehead or neck for a few minutes until you feel better.

He’s gonna make you sit on his lap and he’ll feed you good food for your sickness. 

He won’t give you kisses until you get better, just in case… and what if he steals your oxygen and you die? No, you must recover. He will give support by holding you.

When he goes to work, he lends you his shirts so you can wear them and feel like he is there with you. And every now and then he’d go to your room to check on you.

He can prepare a warm bath for you, even with candles so you can completely relax!

Will probably make Mathieu do his work whenever he feels like he did not spend enough time with you…

MATHIEU

He is a human so he knows that you will get better soon. Still, he will be dramatic in joke and say “oh no, we have to cuddle before you die!” as he snuggles to your side and traps you in his arms.

He asks Lance advice to make you feel better, and he is somehow good at remembering about you taking your medicine. If Ewelein gives you a potion or something, he’s gonna smell it and judge it beforehand to feel sorry for you.

Mathieu feels pity for you, so he tries to cheer you up with jokes and some details.

He is the worst option when it comes to food, because he will offer you food that could be wrong for your stomach. He will apologize for a week if that meal made you feel worse :(.

He once gave you a piece of cake with chocolate and that evening you spent it throwing it up… 

After the scolding he received from Lance and Ewelein, he acknowledged himself with those things you can eat and which not.

You might have to warn him to not get so close to you, but he won’t even care and will keep kissing you, being close to you, until he ends up being sick as well.

He talks to you until you fall asleep, even though sometimes you might ask him if he can lower his voice. And he can! He wants you to feel calm and not overwhelmed.

If you two had any access to technologies, he’d offer you to watch any shows or movies as you two cuddle and rest. But since that option in Eldarya isn’t available, he will make a picnic on your bed with things you CAN eat when sick instead of almost killing you again.

Do not let him cook for you or you will surely suffer.

i've been.. sick.. auhrgh. (its a simple cold but my body can'teven),, if you still take tiny drabble requests can I request Barb helping mc when they got a cold.. just tooth rotting fluff.. (if you dont/aren't comfortable thats fine :0b)

Oh noooo I hope you're feeling better!! Being sick is the worst...

And I am still doing drabbles, yes! So I may have written a little more than what I consider drabble length but uh... well I can't help myself when it comes to Barb, so.

Anyway, here's a bunch of fluff!

You were sick. You knew it and even though you were trying to hide it, you were sure everybody else knew it, too. You kept your sneezes as quiet as possible, burying your face in your elbow to muffle their sound. You refused to sniffle unless you absolutely had to. And you went into the bathroom to blow your nose in private. You tried everything you could to suppress the shivers that ran through your aching body, even while you kept wiping the sweat off of your forehead.

All day at RAD, you felt like despite the obvious signs, you were doing a decent job of powering through it. If anyone noticed, they didn't say anything.

Until you got home, that is.

You were surprised to find Barbatos already in your room.

He smiled at you, but there was a sternness behind it, too. "MC. You are in no condition to continue pushing yourself the way you have been. I have changed your bedsheets and washed your favorite pair of pajamas. Now I must insist that you get changed and get into bed so you can rest."

You frowned and folded your arms. "I don't need to get into bed, I'm fine," you said.

Barbatos walked over to you, removed his glove carefully, and put his hand on your forehead. You shivered a little, partly because you knew he would feel your fever and partly because his touch awakened a burst of butterflies in your stomach.

Barbatos let his hand descend to cup your cheek. "You cannot hide the evidence of your illness from me," he said. His voice was soft, the firmness of moments ago melting away into indulgence. "I know you feel that it is minor, but you will recover quicker if you rest now. If you will allow me to, I will take care of you until you are well again."

The tinge of heat that rose up in your cheeks wasn't something you could blame on your fever. You nodded.

When you were in your pajamas and snug beneath the covers, Barbatos brought you a tray of soup and tea. He sat beside your bed while you ate. On your bedside table he had already placed a supply of tissues and water.

"This is delicious," you said when you were halfway through the soup.

"It is a recipe of my own design," Barbatos said. "It incorporates all of the best nutrients a human would need to fight off a cold. The tea is also a special blend of Devildom herbs. They are safe for human consumption, of course, but they contain just enough magical properties to boost your immune system and speed your recovery."

You smiled at him. It was just like him to be so meticulous in what he served you.

"Isn't it a bad idea for you to be this close to me?" you asked. "What if I'm contagious? I don't want you to get sick, too."

"You needn't worry about me, MC," Barbatos said. "I am not capable of contracting an illness of this nature."

You didn't have the clarity of mind to question that statement further.

When you had finished eating, Barbatos cleared away the tray, then positioned himself back in his chair.

"Are you really just going to sit there all night?" you asked.

"I wish to be here should you need me," he said.

You sighed. You were feeling sleepy. The warmth of the food made you heavy and the softness of your mattress caused your body to relax. Your senses were dulled by the fever still running through you. Your eyelids were slowly descending, but you kept them open. You reached out a hand toward Barbatos and murmured his name.

Barbatos knew what you wanted without you needing to say it. You were still sitting up in bed and after removing his shoes, Barbatos sat beside you. Instead of laying back on your pillows, you rested your head on his chest. His arms enclosed you and your breathing synced with his. You fell asleep listening to the beating of his heart.

Clearly Luis likes to paint himself as a ladies' man, but unlike the typical charismatic bachelor, he's definitely got one thing holding him back from that luxuriously free lifestyle: when he's with the right person he's got baby fever like you wouldn't believe, and it never really goes away.

It always starts slow with that initial conversation of "so how do you feel about kids?" and a positive answer may as well be a proposal to Luis when it comes to you. He starts making offhand comments about seeing the cutest baby in the park the other day or mentioning that the schools are enrolling for kindergarten this month, and "wouldn't it be nice if we had our own..." like the hints he was dropping before just weren't enough. Because then he's fantasizing about what your kids would look like and even busts out all that research on genetics he's done just for fun, illustrating what kind of genes your children might get from each of you and how adorable they would look with your features put together.

And obviously you get to hold it over him if he's being a menace on occasion. Luis might be bothering you about something or disappearing at random to go play hero again, and all it takes to rein him in is you wondering aloud about whether or not you could really trust him to be a good father. And he'll come racing in with reassurances that he is! He will be! Just give him a chance, mi amor, and he'll show you he can be the best father you've ever seen--if he could figure out how, he would even carry the baby for you just to save you the physical toll of childbirth and postpartum. He wants one so badly but at the same time, he understands the trials and tribulations of carrying a child to term better than most men, so it's definitely not a small ask from him and he certainly acknowledges that.

If and when it finally comes time for you to let him have a crack at knocking you up, Luis is downright methodical about it right up until you actually conceive. He keeps a calendar of your cycle and maps out your ovulation days to figure out the best time to try, starts giving you vitamins and other supplements to take to help boost your immune system ("healthy body, healthy baby, mi vida!"), and Luis even looks into different positions he can try in the bedroom to help the fertilization process. He's almost too scientific about it but it's so cute to watch him pore over those documents and baby books in his reading glasses, making notes and comparing information so he can make it as easy for you as possible throughout the process. He'll do all the work for you that he can--all your job includes is sitting around, being comfortable, and growing your baby until you're ready to pop. You don't have to work, or travel, or stress at all, all Luis wants you to do as your lover and in-home doctor (kinda) is to relax, indulge in your hobbies, and let your body direct you towards whatever it needs. You can do that for him, right, love?

That's not to say he's completely, ahem, sterile about the whole process. Luis doesn't mind being a little messy--and god knows he has no qualms about getting all sloppy and rough when it's time to actually make the baby. He's got a theory that his seed will take easier if you're completely relaxed, so he always starts out with the gentlest, most loving head he can manage between those sweet, pretty thighs. But it never ends that way because before long, Luis' mind clouds with lust as he gets that feverish taste of you on his tongue, and by then he's leaving finger-shaped bruises in your hips and moaning with his lips totally sealed around your clit, totally mindless as he makes your world spin. The scrape of his stubble against your skin and the pressure of his nose grinding into you when he has you ride his face is hypnotic, it's tantalizing, and Luis knows that well enough that he never skips out on going down on you even if he's got limited time. Fingers, tongue, or face, he's going to have you falling apart in his lap no matter what time of the month or how sensitive you might be about exposing yourself--Luis would never judge nor condemn you for anything because no matter what it is, it almost always turns him on more than you could ever realize.
