Lately, I have been thinking about Kotake and Koume, and, out of interest, have read through a lot of interesting takes on their involvement in Ganondorf's upbringing during Ocarina of Time. However, I've noticed that some of these discussions tend to depict them as emotionally distant, exploitative, manipulative, and even borderline cruel.
Which, granted, isn't entirely out of line for their characters. What other personality traits could we expect out of witches who brainwashed their people into doing the bidding of their king, who were born nearly 400 years before the events of Ocarina of Time and therefore hold a vastly different worldview than the rest of their tribe?
But as always, I like to carry a bit of sensible skepticism when it comes to the narrative that is being pushed in the game. And I find it almost imperative to do so for Ocarina of Time, given that it is played through the eyes of Link, a child soldier who fails to question the orders that he believes he is meant to follow, and the kingdom of Hyrule, which had recently come out as the victor and dominant power after a "civil" war.
The question still remains, however. What, in Ocarina of Time, would "redeem" Twinrova? Where can we see evidence of their "goodness"?
In my opinion? Their powers.
Their powers, I argue, were not chosen randomly by the creators of Ocarina of Time. It was absolutely intentional to show their association with the Gerudo Tribe and more importantly, the Gerudo Valley/Desert. Just think about it, the climate there is scorching hot during the day, yet biting cold during the night.
Wouldn't you, with powers of ice, try to cool down your people after they return from a tiring yet successful hunt?
Wouldn't you, with powers of fire, try to warm your people up when there is not enough hides and furs to pass around?
And given that no one (aside from maybe Ganondorf) has these powers, it is safe to assume that the Gerudo regarded Twinrova as blessed beings; divine guardians sent by the Goddess of the Sands as a reward for their endurance in such harsh climates.
Again, this isn't to condone their actions that take place during the game. We see they are more than happy to kill in the name of their king, willing to coerce others into killing by ways of dark magic.
However, we should also acknowledge the fact that we're encouraged to see just that: two antagonistic witches who revel in brainwashing, killing, cheating death, and being unapologetically evil.
Boring. If we wanted absolutely evil, death seeking creatures, we can look to literally any other magical creature in Ocarina of Time.
Rather, it's important that Twinrova are humans (or humanoid, though either way their sentience still stands), as it forces players to 1) look at the bigger picture and question why the twins behave the way they do and 2) recognize that they have motives that go beyond simply helping a king assert control over an entire world.
Perhaps, Twinrova might have been prolonging their lives to look out for their people, as they had no one with magical affinity to mentor until Ganondorf had demonstrated his own prowess in the mystical arts.
Perhaps, over the centuries, they realized the chiefs and chieftesses before Ganondorf were not cutthroat enough like their Hylian counterparts to fend off territorial expansion/colonization.
Perhaps, after seeing their era of prosperity being snatched away from them, they grew hateful of the kingdom that lives in splendor, and wanted to see it burn and freeze the way they do.
Perhaps, after seeing the complacency of the new generation, how some of their best warriors seek out lovers in that damned Castle Town, they realized this boy was their only hope of restoring their honor and dignity.

Heracles 7: Other Notable Feats
According to Diodorus and Apollodorus, Heracles has many other notable adventures and achievements during his quests to fulfill his labors. Some of these events (but certainly not all), are as follows:
The 1st Olympic games: After capturing the Cretan bull, Diodorus tells us that Heracles Founded the first Olympic games in honor of his father Zeus. Heracles chose the laurel wreath crown as the prize and, as is fitting his demigod prowess, won first place in every event!
The gifts of the gods: Diodorus also lists the boons gifted to Heracles by the gods upon return from his labors: a robe from Athena, war club from Hephaestus, horses from Poseidon, a sword from Hermes, bow and arrows from Apollo, and the Lesser mysteries, instituted by Demeter to purify him of the Centaurs murders.
The rescue of Prometheus: The titan Prometheus, for stealing fire from Zeus and gifting it to mortals, was punished by being bound to a mountain rock and having the giant Caucasian Eagle come and peck out his regenerating liver every day. Heracles, coming upon this tragic figure, shoots down the eagle with his arrows, rescues the titan, and persuades his father to calm his anger for Prometheus’s transgressions.
To get a deeper look into his further adventures during these times, I urge the reader to review the section on Heracles in Diodorus’ Library of History and Apollodorus’ The Library. Many more feats are listed such as Killing the Libyan giant Antaeus in a wrestling match, constructing the Pillars of Heracles to mark the end of the known world, fighting the giants of the earth with the help of the gods in modern day Italy, praying for divine intervention in the bothersome sounds of crickets at night, escaping capture and being a sacrificial victim in Egypt by King Busiris, amongst many other episodes.
Thanks for looking and reading!

Terrible Fic Ideas #15: Game of Thrones, but make it soul mates
My muse being the fickle thing it is, it's already abandoned #14 and latched onto a new fic idea - mainly: what if Tywin Lannister had to choose?
Or, more specifically, what if some series of events - say, Jaime Lannister getting a female!Jon Snow soulmate - placed each of Tywin's golden twins on opposite sides of The War of Five Kings, forcing Tywin to have to choose between his daughter and Robert Baratheon and his son and House Stark?
Just imagine it:
First, imagine an AU that plays by Bequeathed from Pale Estates soulmate rules. Which is to say: soulmates are rare, undeniable, holy, and as much romance as divine retribution. It's an honor to be marked, but there's always the undercurrent of our marriage is healing a blood feud as there is in so many noble medieval weddings. Children of these marriages are always legitimate, as the soulmates can bed no other.
Second, imagine that someone with some sense was in the room when Robert Baratheon tried to keep Jaime Lannister on as a Kingsguard. However you look at it, even knowing the full story of events, it would have made more sense politically and for his own personal safety for Robert to have released Jaime from his Kingsguard vows after the Sack.
So we have a Jaime that is reinstated as his father's heir c. 283 AC but still desperately in love with Cersei. Tywin is to some degree aware of this and strives not only to see them kept apart, but to get Jaime married to secure his line. Though he succeeds in the former, he fails in the latter. Tywin arranges three marriages for Jaime over the years, but Jaime manages to be absent for the first two ceremonies and, though dragged to the third, refuses to say the vows.
By 297 AC, Tywin is at his wit's end with Jaime - who is more commonly known as Jaime the Bridegroom a la Edderion Stark than the Kingslayer these days - when his son gets a soul mark.
Tywin has the bard's playing songs about how romantic it is that some part of Jaime knew to wait for the other half of his soul mark before he even learns the woman his heir is fated to marry is the bastard daughter of Eddard Stark, whom we shall call Jeyne Snow.
There's no way for Jaime to avoid a marriage to his soulmate, and after 14 years of only seeing each other occasionally from across crowded rooms some of his obsession with Cersei is rubbing off. It doesn't help that she's clearly been taking one of their uncles or cousins to bed to have three golden-haired children that look so little like her husband... so Jaime goes through with this marriage. It's part resignation, part spite, and part maybe Cersei isn't my other half after all.
Jeyne, for her part, is mostly pleased to be legitimized even if it's only to be sent away to the Westerlands to marry an indifferent husband. It's not ideal, but it's honestly the best she could have hoped for in her situation and she's nothing if not practical. Perhaps even ruthlessly so, as a female bastard who practices the old ways has neither the Wall nor the Faith to escape to.
Ironically, Jeyne ends up spending the first year of her marriage liking Tywin better than her husband, because for all the man is calculating and ruthless, he has that same vein of practicality. Tywin sees it too and ends up training Jeyne to rule after him, because gods know Jaime will only see everything he's built turn to ruins if left to his own devices.
But Jeyne and Jaime do soften to each other, if only because they're in this together and there has to be some compatibility for the gods to have marked them as soulmates. It's not easy, and they figure out the sex long before the friendship part of things, and so by the time Robert dies they have a young son, Loreon, to continue their line.
The exact details of what happen in the capital don't matter so much - maybe they happen exactly as in the books, maybe Ned being Jaime's wife's father keeps Joffrey from executing him, maybe Ned being Jaime's wife's father makes Cersei encourage the execution that much more - but either way we end up with the same basic situation: the North rises against Joffery.
But what is Tywin to do? He's schemed his whole life to get a child of his blood on the throne, but even he can see just how bad a king Joffrey would be even with the most detailed management. If that was his only option, Tywin would be forced to stick with it - but it's not. His heir's wife is Ned Stark's most beloved daughter, Robb Stark's most beloved sister, and the military strength of the North is never to be discounted. (Maybe he's already starting to suspect that Jeyne is Rhaegar's daughter; maybe he's considering claiming she's Rhaegar's daughter to keep his blood on the throne.)
And... that's it really. I really want to see Tywin forced to decide between Cersei and Jaime, between the mad grandson already on the throne and the infant grandson he could place next to it.
I suppose there would be a lot of plot in the background involving Jaime and Jeyne learning to get along, and Jeyne adjusting to the Westerlands, and Tywin coming to like Jeyne despite himself (and maybe, through Jeyne's inexplicable fondness for Tyrion, value his youngest son just a little). But at the moment I'm focused on Tywin being forced to decide between what he's always wanted, but achieved the worst possible way and what he's always wanted, but better for the realm and with the possibility of ending badly.
Bonuses include: 1) At least one character mentioning the first time they see Jeyne dressed in Lannister red that she almost looks Targaryen and wondering if her mother was a dragonseed. 2) Jeyne learning to be at least a little bit sneaky and in the process saving all, or most, of House Stark. 3) Tyrion serving as marriage councilor for both Jaime and Jeyne without either party being aware, and being driven to drink even more than usual.
As always, feel free to adopt this poor plot bunny, just let me know if you do anything with it.
Other Jon Snow Headcanons: Aegon the Unyielding | Aemon the Adventurous | Lady Arryn | Lady Baratheon | Lady Lannister | Lady Stark | Prince Consort | Prince of Summerhall | Queen Mother

What's your canon world state for dragon age?
Hello🏃🏾! So, my Da world state is like a personal mess in my brain, because my first warden was my Mahariel and i consider it canon, but i full played Surana recently and it's also canon for me, like a branch in the timeline that became bigger than i thought, so I'll put Mahariel as an honorable mention:
DaO: Thaer Surana, circle elf, arcane warrior/blood/battlemage, 22yo, kind, a bit prideful and determined to survive. Saved the circle, *saved Connor, helped the werewolves and elves, Bhelen as a King, helped Jowan escape every time, didn't destroyed the Urn, didn't kill Flemeth, did the dark ritual because she trusted Morrigan (and is a scholar too), Anora and Alistair rule together, Loghain is alive, saved Amaranthine and the Keep, let the Architect alive and romanced Leliana.
(* for game reasons Surana makes a deal with Desire, but in my HC it's with Pride (after the Redcliff events), the same from the Harrowing)
Da2 (current playthrough): Inara Hawke, self taught mage who dabs into a bit of everything, 25yo, pretty straightforward and a mediator (blue and a bit of red), never felt at home in Kirkwall and is burdened by the loss of their family. Carver becomes a warden, killed the Arishok, Merrill's clan is alive, Isabela returned the tome, helped the mages, let Anders go and romanced Fenris.
DaI: Tharell Lavellan, Knight Enchanter and almost First Keeper of his clan. 40yo, serious looking and a bit of a bastard with a heart of gold (under all his pipe's smoke), didn't wanted to be there at all. Sided with the mages, let the wardens stay in Ferelden, Bull's Chargers alive, Celene dies and Brialla rules through Gaspard, Divine Leliana (softened), Hawke left in the fade, not drank from the well, disbanded the inquisition and romanced Blackwall.
NOW, the honorable mention of Mirthir Mahariel worldstate:
DaO: Mirthir Mahariel, Berserker/Warrior (and hunter alongside Tamlen) in the clan. 22yo and bright like the sun. Saved the circle, saved Connor, helped the werewolves and elves, Bhelen as a King, Killed Flemeth, Anora rules alone and Alistair is a warden, Loghain is dead. Loved Tamlen, romanced Alistair for a bit, then Zevran until the end. Did the ultimate sacrifice.
(I have a second Hawke (Tibalt) in my sketches and my first inquisition (Vena) Adaar so maybe this could become a future secondary worldstate!!)

Atlantis and It's Evolution
J.R.R. Tolkien feigned to uncover lost documents when he wove various ancient myths into the lore of Middle Earth.  This is a technique originated by Plato in constructing Atlantis.  Plato claimed he found a source in Egyptian recounting the stories of Atlantis.  His “translation” into Greek is the justification for several phonetically Greek names.
Although Atlantis was not the most significant element in Plato’s dialogues, it has inspired the imagination of successive generations and become a cornerstone of fantastical storytelling.  Nor was it the only fantasy tale in Antiquity, as Lucian of Samosata wrote A True Story in the Second century A.D. to mock the genre of fantasy as a travelog.  Tales beyond the edge of the map of the known world were quite popular in Antiquity.  Of them all though, Atlantis is the only one still widely known by almost everyone in the World and certainly by every adult in the Western World.
In 360 B.C., Plato penned the story of ancient Athens defeating Atlantis.  Plato was discoursing upon the ideal civil state in two dialogues, Critias and Timaeus, written as sequels to The Republic.  In his dialogues, he discusses two different states.  One is the wealthy and luxuriously decadent world power of Atlantis, while the other is the almost spartan ancient Athens.  Plato’s ideal Republic is a system in which men and women are both educated and equal, but only within their state-assigned class, and only the warrior class rules.  Personally, I believe that this system is remarkably similar to Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World.
These two Platonic dialogues both reference Timaeus’ ancestor, Solon as the wisest of the seven sages and lawgiver of Athens who visited Egypt, where he heard the tale from several Egyptians.  Salon told Dropides who told his great-grandson Timaeus, from which Plato found the tale.  It is a tale of a great island, just past the Pillars of Heracles (the modern-day Strait of Gibraltar) in the Atlantic Ocean.  The Kings of Atlantis descended from Poseidon and Cleito.  Atlantis was the source of the metal Oreichalkos, which is only a bit less valuable than gold.  Although Plato places Atlantis 9,000 years into his past, he inserts Athens into the tale as an ally until Atlantis becomes corrupt and imperialistic in its decadence.  Morally superior Athens defeats Atlantis in war, freeing the entire conquered world.  Then Atlantis is sunk beneath the waves with earthquakes and tsunamis as divine retribution for their corruption.
The dialogues are an allegory designed to caution the people of Athens from becoming too decadent or imperialistic.  Plato warns against the decay of morality in favor of decadence, and imperialism, and he cautions against transgressing divine morality. This caution against doing folly may have been influenced by Plato’s experience of the Peloponnesian Wars and by the events and choices made by Athens leading up to the Wars.  His cause was performed for the Panathenaea Games in honor of Athena and may be seen as state propaganda.
Plato’s claim to the historicity of Atlantis is belied by his dating of Athens as an ancient contemporary, making it over 9,000 years old in Plato’s time, older than ancient Egypt, and requiring a reminder of its past by Egyptians.  This is about as realistic as Tolkien’s feign.
Still, people are inspired to look for a grain of true history within Plato’s account.  Some point to the destruction of Knossos and the Minoans from the eruption of the Thera (modern Santorini) super-volcano in the 1,600s B.C.  Others say the “sea people” accused of precipitating the Bronze Age Collapse around 1,200 B.C. may be the source of imperialism or refugees.  Others note the Wars between the Greeks and Persians in which Athens defeated the much larger Persian navy and established itself as the region’s naval power may have been an inspiration.
Perhaps some of these accounts are accurate inspirations, but they do not suggest Atlantis existed.    In the 1880s, Ignatius Donnelly authored Atlantis and the Antediluvian World.  He argued that Atlantis was not a myth, but the birthplace of humanity’s first civilization prior to Noah and the home of the Nephilim and their giant offspring.  He argued that ancient peoples of Europe and America worshiped the Atlantean kings who colonized Egypt, Mesoamerica, and Western Europe, from which we derive Aryans.
Within the context of the 1880s, the remains of the city of Troy, long believed to be a Homeric myth, had just been discovered.  Other archeological sites were slowly being explored, including Knossos and Mykene.  Most people still believed the Biblical flood as literal, with all cultures having an apocryphal flood story, Plato’s timeline placed Atlantis well before Noah.
Donnelly’s theories were adopted as state propaganda by the Nazis.  The Nazis argued they are the living descendants of the true Aryans who survived the fall of Atlantis.  They argue the Atlanteans were superhumans who fell not from divine judgment of their corruption but by intermixing with “lesser races”.  Only by purifying Aryan blood, and removing corrupt lesser races, could the superhuman be restored to rightly rule the world.
In more modern times, people still search for Atlantis, saying Plato had some details of time or place wrong.  Without any real evidence, people have placed Atlantis in the Canary Islands, the Guelb er Richat (Eye of the Sahara), Minoa, and Bulgaria or the Black Sea, amongst other possibilities.  They repeatedly source Egar Cayce, a supposed psychic.  He supposedly had thousands of genuine readings.  He claimed the Atlanteans had been reincarnated as the American people from the United States.
“Be it true that there is the fact of reincarnation, and that souls that once occupied such an environ [i.e. Atlantis] are entering the earth's sphere and inhabiting individuals in the present, is it any wonder that—if they made such alterations in the affairs of the earth in their day, as to bring destruction upon themselves—if they are entering now, they might make many changes in the affairs of peoples and individuals in the present?" (pg 50 Edgar Cayce on Atlantis by Edgar Evans)
"In Yucatan there is the EMBLEM of same. Let’s clarify this, for it may the more easily be found. For they will be brought to this America, these United States. A portion is to be carried, as we find, to the Pennsylvania State Museum. A portion is to be carried to the Washington preservations of such findings; or to Chicago." (page 89 Edgar Cayce on Atlantis by Edgar Evans)
In the Discovery series Hunting Atlantis, author Stel Pavlou and volcanologist Jess Phoenix, who has a Bachelor’s in history and a Master’s in geology, say Atlantis existed in 4,900 B.C.  They say Plato “based his timeline on ancient Egyptian Kings’ Lists” for his date of the 9,000s B.C. and it was in Bulgaria on the Black Sea.  However, Plato did not have access to these King Lists and any version accessible today is known to have been altered.
In the National Geographic series Drain the Oceans, the show slowly showcases four underwater environments.    All except the third are merely natural environments that are played up for drama, admits the series.  However, the third environment, an ancient town named Pavlopetri,  is a genuine Bronze Age town that had sunk below the sea due to the rise in sea levels and other natural disasters. It seems as if the idea of Atlantis was used simply to garner views instead of something genuinely investigated.
Most people are content to enjoy Atlantis as little more than an interesting setting for adventure stories.  J.R.R. Tolkien had Numenor as a fictional island setting in the first two ages of Middle Earth.  It was the first great kingdom of men, but it was corrupted by the fallen angel Sauron into attacking Valinor, the undying land of the elves and angels.  As punishment, the Creator destroyed Numenor by an Earthquake and tsunami in the second age of Middle Earth, a few thousand years before the Lord of the Rings where Sauron was finally defeated.  This is Tolkien’s Atlantis.
Disney adapted the idea in Atlantis: The Lost World and the sequel, Atlantis: Milo’s Return.  Disney’s original movies have Atlantis still existing in a giant cave under the ocean with its air pocket, and the Atlanteans being trapped primitives aware of the outside world.  Disney’s sequel took inspiration from Donnally’s book.  The characters leave Atlantis to travel to the surface world for further adventures in Norway and Mexico and in other nondescript places before returning to Atlantis and then bringing it back to the surface.
The video game Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has downloadable content titled Atlantis DLC, allowing for a story with some time exploring Atlantis, almost as a set-aside.  The first two chapters are set within the Underworld.  The content involving Atlantis only begins in the third chapter.  Atlantis was merely set dressing for the story.  While the setting is as Plato described, the characterization is less true to Plato.  The in-game Poseidon admits to routinely sending great deluges when the Atlanteans prove themselves to not be worthy of mercy.
Others believe that Atlantis was a historical civilization that existed 11,000 years ago.  It’s simply that such knowledge has either been purposefully hidden or lost.
In Secret Origins, the author relays his ideas of  how Atlantis actually existed and how such knowledge might have been kept secret.  He “quotes” Plato, Edgar Cayce, Ishmael Perez, Helena Blavatsky, and Matthias De Stefano, all without citation.  The author merely expects his viewers to believe his claims.  It was certainly an interesting and educational set of videos.
Atlantis seems to have become a lost city-state starting around the late 19th until today with figures such as Ignatius Donally and Edgar Cayce.  Up until then, the city was considered nothing more than a fable and parable created by Plato to flatter Athens and warn of the folly of men.

“Of course history is the humbling story of our misbegotten inflations, and truth is the corrective story of how we return to exactly who we are.” —Mark Nepo
Dearest Richard,
Our nation was honoring Martin Luther King Jr. on his birthday yesterday. Most federal and state employees had the day off. A potential time for reflection on where we now ride as a country. Bringing much up close and personal for me.  Finding just cause for actions taken and falling short. Leading with the right foot arcing itself towards a more perfect world. I stand here in this moment claiming the roughness of intent towards actions taken. Humility is being eaten for breakfast, lunch and dinner. What is lost and continuously seeks to be gained? What can be learned from our ancestors mistakes? This is the present question riding up for me. Continuing to learn, being held accountable for what I miss and need to amend. Staying humble throughout the process. Anything that alters the “good” that is  possible in a moment. It is something personal in the sense of my own responsibility in how I react. It isn’t because of somebody else, but it is about me in particular. Being personal because it is something between me and God. If I, for my entire life lean myself towards God’s divine design that is within me, then I experience a lot of writing on life’s chalkboard and then erasing. Trying again and erasing again. Not feeling shame, just feeling that I have a goal that I am working on and I need to practice more each and every day. Grounding down my innate imperfections over and again. This is what I am learning.
“Where did this all come from?” you might wonder. Getting sidetracked—yup,  but please stay with me for a bit. It makes sense in my head and I am anticipating this thinking will eventually bring me back around to where I need to continue heading out from. Learning something new can be messy and with no clear map it is easy to get off road. That can be where some of the most profound understanding can be found or it might just be a way to use up more gas. To get closer to running on empty. But that is the risk. I am presently game to take it and I hope you are too. For it seems more alive and open to the expanse of what life continues to offer me when I keep my eyes wide open.
Tumblr media
So here goes— an explanation of my  brain’s thoughts, as tangle webbed as they may seem. As part of your archived papers saved by Martha Jane, I was reading through the Gethsemane Parish Visitor weekly newsletter telling of events for the week of October 5, 1945. It was where the notice of your upcoming memorial service was circled. To be held the following Sunday: “Open to all who wish to come,”  the notice read. In the leaflet there was a smattering of details about the number of parishioners in the pews that previous Sunday, the schedule for an upcoming Boy Scout meeting and the next speaker for the Youth Group. Mr. John Sinykin would be speaking about his project for training seeing eye dogs. Sounds interesting. There was even an ad for a jewelry store, White & MacNaught nearby at 812 Nicollet Ave., “offering a solution for my gift problem.” Huh.
Reading further along. Thinking about how the everyday details were interspersed in along with your memorial service notice. There was a congratulating shout out to Betty Anne Weitzel for having just, the previous Wednesday, graduated from St. Barnabas nursing school. There was a welcome home for Walter Hall who was returning from overseas following his honorable discharge from the army. Dang. There that wordless pain can thwack one in the face. I am glad Walter was returning home, but what about you? You needed to return home too. So I continue to read and on page 3 I come across this article by John Wall of Virginia. This is part two of his article. Part one was on the previous week’s bulletin, but this is the key sentences that caught my attention:
“They [African Americans] have seen a world at war over ideas and ideals. They have learned that equality of economic, educational, and social opportunities is the right of every citizen regardless of race, creed, or color. No longer will they accept a second-class citizenship role.”
That message slapped up against my more recent finding about your dad and his land development company condoning racial covenants on land he was subdividing in this city where both of us were born.
Tumblr media
Here is the legalese from a document I had of some of his loan transactions. Selling only to the “caucasian” race. Learning more as more is uncovered. Trying to find room for what prejudicial actions look like and where we move from what is known and accepted. Or at least not spoken against to stop. So here he is, possibly sitting in a Gethsemane church pew, reading this article. Knowing there was movement that the war unlatched. Your dad, having worked in said position for decades now. Having raised a family. Moved out of the family home. Not certain if he was employed at this time or not. I don’t know what was in the mix but I just wondered if there was movement toward change for him? Was he a single bystander doing whatever everyone else was doing in the real estate business during the 20’s, 30’s and early 40’s or was he more of a ring leader? Knowing the power of silence can hold the crime of harm in place as much as overt actions can.
Just wondering. Stirring up the pot. Adding more ingredients into the mix.
"In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends." — Martin Luther King Jr.

Are you worthy?
The game had begun.
Two had already taken off into the depths of the castle, eager to begin their search. It was expected of those present to make their way out of the central room to the rest of the building, just as those two had done… but she hesitated. This was a game, but relatively anything in regards to an end goal, or even rules had been left a mystery. All the contestants had were a vague idea on where to go from this starting point.
Use your head. You don’t know what to expect, none of us do. It would be smarter to work together.
A tiny voice crawling in her head managed to point out the obvious, “It’s a game. There can only be one winner.”
He was right, of course, but there were a couple problems with that. For one, this was a game of honor. Any other sort of scenario like this one, it would have been smarter for her to go on her own, prepare herself for the inevitable conflict, and there was nothing to solidly deter her away from that in the present situation… except for one thing. Looking around the room at the others here, only two of whom she recognized.
And recognized was not the same as knowing them. What were they capable of? The Divine King had made it very clear this event came with risk, and all of them had still made the conscious decision to attend. It seemed to be one of the aspects that had all of them on edge before the announcement of the game’s beginning. It wasn’t hard for her gaze to wash over the others and feel that with not only her background, but her line of work, might give her some kind of unfair advantage. What could any of them do to her?
And where was the honor in that?
For two, the very threat of some kind of unknown risk. Again that nagging question came back… what were they capable of? Spirits and humans in a world where the very rules of existence were so unclear. How would they protect themselves? A worrying feeling sank into her very being. If this were her own team, she’d leave no man behind. They were a team for a reason.
The blue haired girl, Vivi… the blond with one metal arm, Arthur… and a spirit tinted to the color of blue, who’s name she didn’t know. They were the only ones currently left in the room… in a way, her team… but only if they saw it the same way.
And that led her to be the one to address them first, “I don't know about the rest of you, but I think we may stand a better chance sticking together. See what this place has to offer. If you'll allow me, I'll go where you do."
Arthur had gone up to the Divine King, not only to make sure he was alright, but to see if maybe there was some more information the host of the event might have to offer to them. He only confirmed what she assumed, that this was meant to be a free-for-all. Only one winner.
At one point or another… it must be expected that they would turn on one another. A sickening feeling in some regard.
But one good thing had come of focusing on him first. He’d been the first to agree with her, though proposed an idea of his own. Splitting into two smaller groups. There was safety in numbers… but he had one point. Even if the four of them aimed to work together, they could cover more ground if they split up. He had also brought up the prospect of looking for the others as well, though that plan wasn’t as desirable. All of them had to remember they were still part of a game.
If they came across the others, then fine, but they should also look to give themselves a fighting chance rather than spending all their time looking for someone else.
She hadn’t paid much attention to what the blue spirit was doing, though her attention had finally retreated from her own inner thoughts when Vivi spoke up, "We have no idea what could be waiting for us out there.  We don't know if we'll be strong in numbers, but it's worth a try."
She had paced ahead, coming to the now unlocked doors that lead to the rest of the castle. She’d given a glance over her shoulder to ensure the other three were coming, “Come on then! Let’s get this show on the road!”
Well, she certainly had enthusiasm to share.
This really was the team then?
The blue haired one taking charge.
The skittish, but caring, blond.
The bone covered spirit in formal wear.
And an unusual canine companion.
A strange combination, and yet fitting in a way.
"It seems the decision has been made then," she mused more to herself than the others in the room. Once she had also come to the doors, she offered a passing glance to the other two members of their team. Eventually, they came back to Vivi, "It would be a good idea if we also keep track of where we are and where we have been. At least that way if we come across something that may be dangerous, we have somewhere we can return to. I'm open to suggestions on where we go first."
Vivi hadn’t offered a suggestion, but her ears turned to listen to those behind her.
"Would... do you want to... maybe partner up with me for now...? While we look around. Or-- I mean if you'd rather with one of the others that's fine and all I just.... Yeah...."
“I’d love to go with you.”
"Let's go, big guy. You follow me for now, okay? We'll see what we can find."
It seemed those two had made their decision, but there was no need to press the issue. She’d simply remembered her first thought. So long as they were helping each other out, then this was a tactical way of seeing more of the castle grounds before they found their way back to one another. Rather than try to press the issue, she accepted it. Calling over to Arthur, "I'll go off with Vivi then for now. We can always meet up later and compare findings. Good luck you two."
He waved, calling back to them, "Good luck to you guys too! I'll try to pick up anyone we run into if I can."
From there, they went their separate ways.
Salena hadn’t noticed until too late that Vivi was no longer with her. A mocking tone whispered through her head, “Nice going. Not a few minutes in and you’ve lost your new partner. Good job mutt.”
Hush.
She should turn around, look for Vivi… but she should also take part in the actual game. The girl looked like she could take care of herself, if their one interaction prior to this was anything to go off of. She… should press on ahead for now. They were bound to meet up again at some point.
So long as she was beginning her exploration, it was best to take navigating in a methodical approach. She should start with the current floor, but that line of thinking could always change.
How… unsettling it was she found herself in the throne room first. The room was pristine, stone under her feet and along the walls. The space was enclosed, yet light seemed to flood in from around her. Stained glass made a multitude of colors shimmer in the stone room. There were smaller spirits here, simpler than the Divine King, or even the one that had gone off with Arthur. They noticed her when she entered, but had largely gone back to their cleaning duties.
So these spirits were the King’s his staff in a way. They were ignored for the time being, as they didn’t appear to be a threat.
At the very center of the room was the throne itself, adorned in gold, vines and sunflowers decorating the seat. There were ancient symbols here, ones neither one of them could understand. This kingdom was unique, and it would be foolish to assume that even in Alexander’s massive library, there would be anything on these designs. Statues lined along the walls, giving the whole room a beautiful, but regal setting.
Not like the frozen throne that flashed no more than a split second. That’s in the past.
Her feet carried her closer to the throne, her fingers tracing over the symbols, as well as the soft texture of the sunflowers’ petals. They were old, but somehow still full of life. A shine in the corner of her eye caught her attention. There, in the center seat was a crown. Golden… decorated in jewels.
Her name echoed from what felt like every surface in the room. She found her fingers laced over the top of the piece. This had to be the Divine King’s crown yes? Why then were they chanting as if she were meant to take it? How could she? Was it just part of the game… or were they tempting her? It was a role unfitting for her, one she’d never want.
She never deserved a crown upon her head… she didn’t even deserve to be here in the first place.
It was becoming unbearable. Too many voices buzzing around in one spot. Silence them.
The beast pushed herself to her feet, leaving the crown in its place. She couldn’t take it, and she dared not to look back at the reactions of the spirits pushing her to make her choice. Their hums filled her ears as she walked towards the staircase in the back of the room. She’d noticed it briefly before other things had called her attention.
“I thought you said you were going to take a methodical approach to this exploration thing.”
And I am.
“You’re going up a flight of stairs.”
Look, the upper floors are bound to be fewer than the ground level, so I’ll work my way from the top to the bottom. That still keeps the methodical approach in mind.
“Whatever you say dear.”
He faded into the background again, just as another shine caught her eye. They’d been scanning around the area as she had her internal conflict. Every room could hold something important, even the staircases, so best to see if there was anything that looked out of place or unordinary. What she’d managed to find was a… pin? It was golden in color, but nothing around here showed any hint as to what this might have gone to.
Or at least, nothing did until she had gone up a few more steps.
There were more of those spirits there, a white pillar towering over their smaller forms. They were trying to pick up some smaller objects along the ground with their… what she could only assume were hands. That made her raise an eyebrow. Weren’t they spirits? Could they not pick up anything regardless of the item’s size? Were the ‘rules’ here really that specific? A soft sigh passed through her lips, gathering two more pins to go with the one she’d already found.
Her hand seemed to hover over the gem resting with them. At first glance, it looked like an ordinary gem… but looks could always be deceiving. Even he knew that. He’d probably have her move on from here, untrusting of something that honestly looked similar to a prison of his own.
How he hated his time trapped in that tiny crystal.
Thankfully they were not alone. Surely these spirits could understand her, and therefore answer a simple question, "That gem. Is it dangerous?"
A shake of their heads. With that confirmed, she took it into her arms.
There was one little other tidbit of information the spirits had spilled: His Majesty would be rather upset if he found out they were irresponsible and dropped it on accident.
That in itself seemed so… out of character. Granted, it’s not like the man wasn’t capable of getting mad, but rather it seemed silly to get upset over an item like this. It was just by itself, and on display… and it wasn’t dangerous. Well, if that was the case, might as well help out.
“Oh yes, let’s waste some time worrying over a little display rather than continuing on our way.”
And like most of his backseat commentary, she ignored that comment.
The spirits offered no help, but it seemed simple enough to figure out. There were three pins, two gold and one silver, with the silver one being longer than the gold ones. Ok, so it made sense then that the two gold ones would go near one another. The silver one must be like a support pin for the gem, which would leave the smaller ones being used to hold it up. It didn’t take long to put everything in place. She stood back from her work…
Only to be showered in confetti… Now where did that come from?
She just went with it, ignoring the snickering echoing in her head.
"Well, at least the display is fixed. Probably don't want to leave this laying around for the Divine to find hmm?"
As if one could sense this, it had made the proper cleaning items appear, working on the mess. Meanwhile, the other one had another plan. It had dropped something in her lap… a key? No clue as to what it had gone, just left with her before they disappeared. Guess that was her cue to leave, but not before she made one final remark.
A waste of time was this?
“Hush mutt.”
The key was tucked away into one of the pockets on her shorts, making her way to the top of the stairs. Just as she got there, a voice made her look back the way she came. There was… someone younger coming towards her, with… white hair? She crossed her arms, “Might want to watch where you are going unless you want to trip, or run into someone."
That advice largely went ignored, the stranger coming to her. She held a flower in her hands, one that was offered to her, "For you! Everybody gets a flower!"
"Alright? Thanks?"
And with that she was on her way. That was…
“Strange? Unprompted? Odd? Take your pick.” She shook her head, taking the flower as she tucked it behind her ear. Might as well keep the small gift that was offered to her. Finally, she could get back to the path she’d begun once her first foot hit the stairs. There were hallways, but there had to be another staircase around that would lead her to the top floor. She can check the rooms on this floor when she was done on the upper level.
Sure enough, she found what she was looking for. Nothing caught her eyes this time, though the sound of windchimes in the air filled her ears. She closed her eyes, listening to the calming tune.
It’s almost peaceful here.
“Don’t let your guard down. There’s no telling what will happen.”
I know.
What stretched out before them was a balcony, three separate areas to choose from. Yes, this would make for easier searching, then she could return to the second floor. There were only three rooms, and if they were hidden this far up, there had to be some secrets kept here. Items of mystery and value, although cliché, were usually in a basement, or on the highest floor. The same seemed to ring true here. She had her options laid before her, though one room in particular drew her attention towards it. A calling perhaps? She’d gotten feelings like this before, so it wasn’t too out of the ordinary.
Salena pushed the door open, her gaze falling on a sword. Magic seemed to pulse off it, a light glow surrounding it as she stepped into the room. From what she could tell, the sword was made by an expert. She had a specialty in crafting weapons herself, but there was power radiating off this one, even if it was stuck in stone. There were… runic symbols? Something carved along the blade itself. This certainly put a fair amount of her work to shame.
A voice echoed softly around her.
Such A Furry Little Face....You Have Come So Far, Haven't You, Dear One?
...
Tell me...Are You Worthy?
Worthy? There was an easy answer to that, yet instead of answering with that response she stepped closer, "Worthy.. that in itself is a very vague question. Worthy of what? Of the blade before me? Of the Divine's blessing should I win? To win? I could go on.."
Worthy Of Whatever You Feel You Are Worthy Of...I Am Merely A Weapon To Be Used By Whoever Finds Me. I Shall Carry Out Whatever You Feel Worthy Of, Whatever Means That Much To You.
A sword in a stone. It was here because it was meant to be pulled out by someone yes? Someone worthy from the sound of it. So then why was she wrapping her hand around the hilt as if she thought she might be able to pull it out?
"And what if I believe that I'm not truly worthy of anything?"
Then You May Choose The Path Of Unworthiness. It Is A Painful Route To Take, Dear One.
A tingle of what felt like static sparked under her fingers. A sense of panic began to wash over her, “Let go of the blade.”
That just made her grip it tighter. Teeth grit together, ears pinning back against her head, a slightly strained voice released from her mouth, "You say that as if I don't know that road. It's one I chose to walk long before I came here. I don't understand it, probably never will. How can others see worth in someone like me when I can't see it in myself?"
The static feeling began to race up her arm.
.....You Have Already Felt That Pain, Yes?
Her arm started glowing. Glowing a bright yellow that shone even from under her long sleeved clothing.
“Salena! Let go of the damn sword!”
None of them noticed the sword come out a few inches.
You Must Learn To Find That Self Worth, Then. So Many Here See You As A Good Friend.
A snarl ruptured from her throat, a familiar pain shooting through her arm. She knew this feeling, the hairs starting to smoke amongst the sea of gold. Her head was screaming at her to let go, yet for some stupid reason, she was still hanging on. Her free hand moved to the stone under her, having knelt down in front of the blade shortly before, now running her claws along them… as if that might mitigate some of the pain. She fought to get her words out, "Is it wrong that I don't understand why? There are those here that barely know me."
No Problem At All. Healing Takes Time And Work. But The Strangers Who Look At You...Do Look At You With Understanding. You Must Look Inside Your Own Heart To See The Worth That They See In You. You May Find It To Be True In The End.
More pain…
“You damn bitch! I am begging you! Let go of the damn blade!”
Her eyes widened.
Fire… Burning fire!
“Oh hell no! You are not doing this on me!”
He raced through the hallways of her mind. By now, he knew exactly which alcove was connected to which set of memories. He only needed to find the ones on ‘him’ and his followers. None of them could risk an attack coming out of the panic seeping into her very mind. The locks on the doors were cracking, wood splintering under the strain. Well, not if he could help it.
“She should just listen to me. Let go of the damn thing hurting her, but noooo. She has to be her usual stubborn self.” His hand waved, more chains crawling over the doors. That should keep them from surfacing. With any luck, she’d come to her senses before even his locks broke.
Her head pressed further into the cool metal of the blade, huffs escaping her maw. How much longer should she keep going on? No… it didn’t matter how long. Endure.
"Understanding huh...? Like me...?"
Her eyes closed, thinking back to all those in her life. Alexander. Malceum. Cassandra. Hell, even the Good Doctor himself.
What about Arthur and Vivi? She saw worth in them, and they did in her did they? These strangers she just met but might be just like her?
She opened her eyes, finally seeming to come to an internal understanding. She fought against the pain, using her free hand to push herself up from the ground, "I've always wondered what I kept fighting for... Why keep going if there was no point, that I had no worth...? I was taken in... everyone sees a worth in me that I can't... bogged down by my past sins.. my past mistakes.. But so long as I am still here, at least I have those worth keeping safe. Maybe if I can finally do just that.. I'll be able to see it for myself.. Until then..."
Her one grip on the blade tightened, knuckles probably would be white were it not only for her fur, but the constant glow shining off it, "I won't stop fighting. Maybe I'm worthy, maybe I'm not, maybe you really are right. Isn't that how it usually is sometimes? Having to be told something you should already know?"
A long silence.
You Are A Wise Woman, Indeed. Hurt By The Fate Life Has Given You...But You Have Grown To Understand A Lot Of Things.
The pain finally died away, the glow fading to reveal her normal fur… or at least normal save for the slight black marks on the end, tiny wisps of smoke, and the irritated red of burns see running across her skin. A calm breeze passed around her form, her arm trembling roughly from the trial she endured.
Ah, Yes. I See...I Understand...Well. Aside From That. I Only Pray Life Gets Better For You From Here On Out, Madam Salena. But I Am Impressed With How You Manage Through Your Troubles.
Even with the pain gone, her hand still refused to let go of the hilt; although, she did manage to crack a smile, "How can I do anything else? Anything to ensure I don't lose what I have left to hold onto. I hope that you may find someone worthy of you."
A selfless lady, indeed. I could not be any prouder, even if we just met.
A sentient weapon? Proud of her? It really shouldn’t be… but who was she to try and convince it otherwise?
The echoing voice giggles around her, About that worthiness....
...
I think I already have a few choices.
From there, the sword sank back into the stone, silence surrounding her. Her hand released its grip, allowing her to stagger over to the closest wall. No way she was going anywhere else for a little while. Her uninjured arm clinged to the other one, stinging racing through her entire side. Her back pressed against the stone, lowering herself down. The sword shouldn’t mind if she rested here for a while.
And then on cue, a frustrated voice rang in her head.
“I can’t believe you! Actually no, scratch that. I can believe you would do something as stupid as this! It’s light magic! You know what that does to you! I told you to fucking stop, but as always, you don’t want to listen to me. I don’t know why I stay with you half the time when you do things like this! Oh right, because if I didn’t I wouldn’t have a willing host. This game just started and look at what you’ve done day one. Not looking good for-”
Alastair…
“Don’t interrupt me.”
Alastair please…
“What the fuck do you want?”
Do you think I’m worthy?
He fell silent for a short while before the voice came back, “Worthy of what?”
Anything.
“I think that if you weren’t worthy of something, you wouldn’t have a home… a family, a husband, people that care about you… shall I go on?”
I asked for your opinion, not what those in my life might think.
An audible sigh, “Look dear, I can’t give you all the answers. It’s just as the hunk of metal told you. It’s kind of something you have to answer for yourself.”
She fell to silence. There was another sigh, “Come on, you need to rest. Once you have, we need to get your arm treated. Just, close your eyes and sleep, I’ll take care of your nightmares.”
Thank you…
“Yeah yeah, just rest.”
Her eyes closed, head leaning back against the stone wall. In the darkness, a presence was felt. Golden looked upon her for a brief moment before fading back into nothingness.
What an interesting first day.

Event!: The Divine King’s Game Of Honor
The crowd surrounded the castle, their hearts beating in excitement for what their king was going to say today. It has been two years since his death, and everyone knew he's changed in a lot of ways. Everyone has changed in so many ways. The sky, a bright blue, but was a sign of a brand new day ahead of everyone. The king were to be here soon, and that meant everyone would have to watch very very carefully, for his words carried meaning. For it meant  everyone would have to listen with clear ears if they wish to understand this ceremony. And after several minutes of long, long waiting, the drums began their slow rhythm, and singing rose.
The dancers were spinning like ballerinas, making way for the confetti and the musicians coming through and down the lane. The entire crowd watches with awe at this beautiful site, along with guards coming out of the front doors, twirling their staffs as if they were in a parade. Everything seemed to peaceful, and it seems as though everyone was having a good time, cheering and clapping as if they were watching the world's greatest wedding. This was what the Kingdom's celebrations were always like. Joyous. Exciting.
Slowly, the Divine King Of Tempo himself steps forward. Everyone goes silent.
He walks down the lane, wearing his long dark robes, and his long golden glowing hair flowing behind him. Around his shoulders was a long dark cape that dragged across the lane, with the symbol of his kingdom being an emblem, a necklace that can be seen at the front of his chest. In his eyes are a look of concentration, determination, glowing and sharp like daggers were to flesh. His anchor was beating strong, in time with the drums, which catches everyone's attention. All eyes on him.
He reaches the end of the lane, standing on a rug, and raising one hand. The music, drums, all stopped, roughly around the same time at his demand. The crowd goes silent. Watching...Waiting. His words were low, at first, rising with the echo and reverb in his voice.
"As of today, the last time we have had this game was 11 years ago." He started, eyes scanning the crowd. "And those many years ago, my mother was in charge of it. The announcer /and/ the challenger. She did her job well...And may she rest in peace..." Ignore the dark hole swallowing your chest once again, Divine Child... "And in the end, there was one definite winner. An old companion of her's that became captain of the royal guards." He brings a hand to his chest. "May he, among the other heroes before him, rest in peace."
The crowd murmurs their mourns, but were quiet other than that. He continues. "Today marks the anniversary of his victory, one he deserved his entire life. And now, today marks the next anniversary for someone else's victory." His words become firmer, sharper, bolder. As did his stare.
"These games will be held again today, and I will be reporting every moment of it the entire time I will be there. Everyone who will be joining might come out with nothing, or they will even come out as an entirely different person. But if that is a risk they are willing to take, then so be it. Bloodshed. Betrayal. But perhaps even unity and hope, depending on which they choose."
He raises his arms up high, and the sun was in the perfect angle to be held in his hands.
"Let the Game Of Honor begin."
The crowd goes wild, cheering, clapping, roaring, some even almost in tears. Such a short announcement, but enough to get them all excited for the events that will play out today. Lowering his arms, his golden tattoos on his body began to glow, and his hair moving all around, stretching, in a bright light. As the crowd cheers, he slowly turns around, with his long flowing cape following along with him, floating off of the ground as he did.
It was now time for him to send out all invitations. A few have been chosen already.
It is as he said. Let the game of Honor begin.

A long, agonizing silence overtook the empty Mystery Gang home.  Tensely sitting upwards upon the worn couch, Lewis had been absolutely rigid in his leaned over posture; idly running a thumb over his locket as it pounded beneath his numb touch.  He quietly kept his attention fixated upon it, anxiously keeping himself busy as he keenly listened to the news that chattered amongst the radio static.  There was still no update on his cyan beloved, not even after she left to join the Game of Honor.  There wasn’t even anything after the King’s announcement, either; nothing but radio static that hit deaf ears.
A nonexistent brow lowered itself upon his bleak features.  Although he shouldn’t have to be, he was utterly buzzing with an overwhelming skittish energy.  He was nervous alright.  He was nervous for his wife’s safety!  Of course, why wouldn’t he be?!
Yet this was different, somehow.  This nervousness wasn’t even his own.  His locket had been beating rapidly all morning, showing no signs of stopping either.  Was this a sign of his wife’s nervousness, subconsciously calling out to him in her time of need?  He wasn’t too sure, but.. this didn’t feel right either.  Whatever was going on in that spirit’s castle, he didn’t like it one bit.

Happy International Fanworks Day!!
OTW's Creative Lounge recently shared some bingo sheets in honor of February 15th, so I thought I'd participate :').
Instead of doing a creator bingo card for all my works, because I'd just end up filling in every single square, I thought I'd just do one for my current WIP, Divine Intervention, the annoying Solo Leveling SCY/SJW drabble series that floods the front page of SL Ao3 sometimes.
More rambling about my fic and how it all started below the cut if you're interested! 💛 includes fic recs :D
I honestly never thought I'd see the day where I'd be making (and populating) a new tag all by myself, but stranger things have happened since the pandemic started, so here we are I guess LOL.
Honestly, believe it or not, Divine Intervention originally began from Woo Jin-Chul/Sung Jin-Woo roots (which ok, may not be so surprising because I recall several readers thought that was the actual pairingwhen we were first getting started, woops). Namely, another WIP of mine, Divine Right of Kings.
They share a lot of similarities which may not be so evident, seeing as Kings is less than 10 chapters posted, but source dude just trust me. They're both canon divergence AUs; apotheosis stories; Jin-Woo is Shadow Monarch in neither of them; deuteragonists; and, most significantly, they both feature a largely human cast--as the plot progresses, the amount of actual solo leveling that gets done dwindles to nothing, all in hopes of writing a universe where Jin-Woo actually gets the emotional support he deserves after the traumatic events that took place within the first 10 or so chapters of canon.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ What can I say, I've got a type.
In the progress of planning Kings' main cast (besides the main pair), Chi-Yul popped up as a prime candidate for party member. An experienced hunter, his conflict was interesting from the get-go: a skilled swordsman who ended up in the wrong class. Who else's class commonly gets mistaken in SL? Well, Jin-Woo, except the reverse--where Chi-Yul doesn't successfully make the whole magic swordsman thing work, Jin-Woo pulls off assassin necromancer who revives whatever he kills pretty darn well.
The next step was figuring out how they would fit together.
Song Chi-Yul in Kings was supposed to play a very different role than in Divine Intervention. Namely, their dynamics are completely swapped: in Kings, I planned Chi-Yul as a mentor figure who teaches a still fledgling Jin-Woo magic early on, fostering a decent amount of trust to make the groundwork for their eventual partying. (Of course, well, we never got there, but still. I had plans, guys.)
We don't get too much of Chi-Yul in canon, so I began trying to write short snippets or oneshots just as exercise to get used to them interacting together. This, as it turns out, was either a terrible mistake for everyone who was waiting for me to write more WJC/SJW, or the birth of something truly great: a banger.
Fueled by my diehard R27 nostalgia to give me shipping lenses and a recent venture into the newest Fire Emblem game at the time, I knew I wanted some kind of knight-and-his-lady dynamic, though in the slash case, knight-and-his-lord. Kings' background gave me a solid inspiration for another apotheosis-type story, so now all I needed was a vibe.
TBH I have a lot of different inspiration sources for the vibe I was going for--something otherworldly, ephemeral, and ancient all at once. I think that deserves another post of its own lol (comprising of a lot of anime and manga, but it's the weeb in me what can I do 😔).
Here's some fic recs in the meanwhile because I know my fellow degens well:
For drabble series,
Guardian by forthrightly [Complete]: A Spirited Away Chihiro/Kohaku drabble series.
Chihiro spends a long, hot summer in a tiny seaside community, minding an old auntie's store, but a legend whispered by locals leads the young woman on a quest of rediscovery. A small story with small chapters.
It'll have you soft and sobbing at the end of it. Alt account of Forthright.
Imperceptible by forthright [Complete]: An Inuyasha Sesshomaru/Kagome drabble series.
A story told through a series of drabbles and oneshots, tracing the slow and steady progress of trust. Sesshoumaru x Kagome, CU.
An aching canon universe SessKag rendition.
Forthright is IMO the mother of all drabble series; they just do it best. All of their other drabble series are equally excellent; go check them out if you're digging the format :)
For vibe,
The Human Mask by harunekonya [WIP]: Natsume Yuujinchou, gen. 182k words
Sequel to Worthy of a Name. Natsume slowly learns to deal with life as a god. An inter-connected vignette series.
It's been over 4 years since I've read this fic but damn do I remember the way it made me feel. Insanely intricate, detailed storytelling, a masterpiece. The fandom is dead but thank god we got this jewel out of it.
fear is the monster you forgot to flee from (fear is the monster that won't let you go) by cywscross [Complete]: Solo Leveling, SJW/WJC. 25.6k words
Jin-Woo reawakens. But he reawakens… wrong. Different. Changed. Monstrous.
(Some do not see it. Others do and are rightfully afraid. And then there are those who are afraid and still want it. They want it, until they cannot live without it, and Woo Jin-Chul finds that he is terribly susceptible to the latter.
If you're in the SL fandom, you've read this fic, but I'm putting it here anyway as a hyperlink for when you inevitably go reread it now that I've reminded you about it (and also because it's the only SL fic on this list, not that there aren't more bangers by our fantastic writers in this fandom but just because that's not what this list is about).
The Unexplainable by Metamorcy [Complete]: Katekyo Hitman Reborn, Reborn/Sawada Tsunayoshi. 238k words.
He had only come here to fulfill a dying wish from a younger version of himself, to take his place in this world as Sawada Tsunayoshi. That had been fine, boredom plaguing him constantly in his long life as nothing seemed to matter anymore. So when Reborn arrives to train him as Vongola Decimo, he ends up with something a little more. Dark!Tsuna, Dark!Universe
I regularly go back to reread this when I need a bedtime story to assauge the 'ol insomnia. The supernatural vibes are off the charts. An old favorite is timeless :')
Satis by Eiserne [WIP]: Hellsing, Alucard/Integra Hellsing. 83.5k words.
Integra dies, only to wake up in the past, as a fifteen-year-old. AxI.
Jesus christ the loyalty kink. The vibe kink. The poetry kink. The feet kink, in a totally not weird way. I know it's the 2nd WIP on this list but just, trust me, I wouldn't rec it unless it would completely wreck you.....in a good way.
Anyway this wasn't a fic rec list on purpose so I'll leave it at that 😂 These are all enjoyable reads even if you know nothing of the fandom or characters involved!
If you made it all the way here, thanks for listening to me ramble! I have a lot of Feelings for this newest baby of mine and I hope to take Divine Intervention a long way forward yet 😌🙏🌺

TES V OC Thingie
[Got tagged by @jessaryss ! ]
Pause your game! Wherever your OC is in their game currently, tell me about their story so far.
✧✧✧ General
Current Level: 56
Name: Jeer-Tei Perdes
Name Meaning: Literally got it from a name generator lol. But lore wise it was a name gifted to them in honor of an Argonian who served beside Tei’s mother during the Great War
Pronouns: They/Them
Age: Early 30s where they are story wise???
Race(s): Argonian
Place of Origin: Hammerfell
Pick A Theme Song For Them: oof that's tough... From a Crowded Wound or maybe even Firstwake? If you really played around w personal interpretation/the lyrics that is haha
✧✧✧ Locations
Where Did You Begin Their Game?: Argonian Assemblage, Windhelm (Alternative Start)
Where Are They Currently In Your Game?: Whiterun
What Are They Doing There?: Just finished attending a party held in their honor (Post Blood of Kings)
Homes?: Breezehome, Proudspire, Lakeview & Autmnwatch
# of Locations Discovered?: 274
Dungeons Cleared: 104
Misc. Quests Completed: 87
Favorite Areas and/or Locations: Falkreath / Lakewview Manor. Both areas are where Tei heads off to in order to collect their thoughts/feel some sense of calm.
✧✧✧ Main Quest
Are They Dragonborn / Do They Know It At This Point?: Yes & yes
How Do They Feel About Being Dragonborn: It's...complicated, being thrust into the role of savior by gods of the Cult, which in turn are followed by the folk who see you lesser than them. Tei already has a dislike towards the Divines, this doesn't really help lol
Main Quests Completed: 21
Where Are They In The Main Story Line: Alduin's dead, currently trying to ignore the Civil War as long as they can before the Empire forces its hand into forcing them to join their ranks
Dragon Souls Absorbed: In total overall? 147. The amount currently stored in Tei? 45
Words of Power Learned: 64
Shouts Mastered: 21
Favorite Shout: Firebreath / Dragonrend
✧✧✧ Combat
Most Used Weapon(s): Daedric war axe OR Dragonbone battle axe. Tei technically has both on them at all times during adventuring, alongside a shield, so which they used depends on the situation/which they grab fastest.
Combat Style: Two/One-handed tank. Main tactic is to rush in, cause as much damage/chaos as possible to shake up the opponent, & clean up what the ranged attackers of the party (usually Rumarin, Inigo and/or Lucien) weren't able to deal with.
Armor Type / Level In It: HEAVY ARMOR BABYYYYY (Level 100 + 35 extra points via enchantments)
# of Training Sessions: 99 in-game, lore wise its a lot of self-teaching/keeping their skills learned from Hammerfell sharp. Some of these are magic but lore-wise this doesn't happen cus Tei is not a magic user, save for shouts. I just did those in-game for exp OR so I can help Lucien raise his magic skills :'D
Who Taught Them?: In-game?? Fuuuck so many npcs. Lore-wise? They learned this from their schooling in Hammerfell, going off the canon-lore that it's p much expected for everyone to have a grasp on combat & weaponry! Though they did learn a few things from Kaidan & Anum-La.
Favorite Enemy Type: Dragons! Despite the fact Tei does not have the best magic resistance, it's one hell of a challenge they love to meet.
Least Favorite Enemy Type: Automatons, because of a bad experience with them as a child. Also Undead, because they were raised not to disturb them & it just feels so wrong having to fight them/go into tombs.
People Killed: 945
Animals Killed: 749 (Hunterborn makes hunting fun lol)
Undead Killed: 766
Automatons Killed: 105
Daedra Killed: 136
✧✧✧ Magic
Favorite School(s): None, actually. Destruction is okay though....they guess
Most Used Spell(s): Firebreath or Dragon Aspect. Tei doesn't consider shouts spells though. It's totally different guys shut up they ain't no smelly mage gods
Spells Learned: 9 in-game, mainly due to the spells you're kinda forced to learn for some quests/the ones you automatically know
Items Enchanted: 19 (Tei technically doesn't enchant, and wont next playthrough for sure I wont give in this time >:[ )
College of Winterhold Quests Completed: 8
Where Are They At In The Questline?: Main quest is done bcus i dont like seeing unfinished quests in my journal lmao. Tei's involvement is completely different from canon though in my take. Moreso was hired as a guard for the expedition & was, unwillingly, dragged into the rest of the mess. Is not offered the Archmage position, that went straight to Tolfdir.
Opinions on Magical Guilds (Arcane University, Winterhold, Psijics, Synod, Radiant Dark, etc.): As they get older, they tolerate the guild & magic users more n more, BUT, Tei grew up in an environment that frowns upon the practice of magic, & it shows. They mainly mistrust necromancers/illusionists & still hold onto that belief that reliance on magic, especially for combat, is a weakness.
Bold words for someone with shit magic resistance.
✧✧✧ Crime
Current Gold: 10,640
How Did They Acquire Their Gold?: Odd jobs, selling a lot of the items they made/harvested from smithing & hunting (jewelers are their go-to hirers bcus Tei is great at getting things like ivory), Dwemer ruin diving (they refuse to loot the tombs), also yknow....being part of the Dark Brotherhood helps
Largest Bounty On Their Head: 11,240
For...?: Unfortunately they did not stand down when they were being falsely accused of murder in Markarth. First time Tei called down dragons (Sahrotaar, specifically, Tei managed to get command of Miraak's dragons post-Dragonborn) to absolutely smite some fools.
Current Bounty: None! They're good at not getting caught/threatening and/or bribing guards. :)
Locks Picked: 15 i think?
Jail Time: 1, Cidhna Mine
Jail Escapes: 1, teamed up w the Forsworn lol
Murders: 28
Assaults: 307....In their defense people keep getting in their way during dragon attacks
Items Stolen: 37, most of them from the nobles of Windhelm
Thieves Guild Quests Completed: N/A (wont be doing this storyline unless i cant find a mod that'll let me get the shouts locked behind it)
Dark Brotherhood Quests Completed: 20
Where Are They At In Those Questlines?: DB is completed main arc wise!
✧✧✧ Relationships
Relationship Status: Married to two lovely fellas
Current Companions: atm? none
Housecarls: Lydia & Rayya
Friends (outside of party): Zora Fair-Child, Inigo, Lucien, Anum-La, Morndas, Aela the Huntress, Nazir, Babette, Scouts-Many-Marshes, Isobel, Madesi
Children: Khash, Chases-Starlight, Ram-Ku. (going of where Tei is now - Otero & Mei come around later on in Tei's story!)
Romantic Interest(s): Kaidan & Rumarin.
Sexual Orientation:
GAY
✧✧✧ Religion
Pantheon: Yokudan, with a hint of Hircine worship in there
Patron Deity(ies): From the Yokudan pantheon: Tei mainly views HoonDing as their main patron, but also prays to/pays respect to Satakal.
They are also Hircine's champion.
Daedric Quests Completed: 3 (Hircine, Vile, Dagon - the last Tei didn't really help, moreso pissed off)
Aedric Quests Completed: 1 if you count the whole Alduin thing I guess?
How Devout Are They?: Tei is rather devout, esp to their Yokudan patrons, praying or making offerings daily. They aren't the type to really push it in your face though, but have no issues answering questions one might have.
How Do They Feel About Talos Worship?: Deep down they acknowledge & admit trying to ban worship is terrible, but....Tei also lets their bias/experience with Windhelm, the Stormcloaks & especially Ulfric kinda cloud over this. If the Nords want their old ways so damn much, why fight for a divine from the Imperial Cult? Why not go back to the actual old ways? No, this isn't about worship, not to the men leading this so-called rebellion, they just needed something other than their racist bullshit to fool the common man into throwing their lives away for the nobles sitting comfortable in their thrones.
Also during their whole thing of getting into their role of dragonborn, they get a bonus 'fuck this dude actually' towards Talos, Ysmir, whatever the fuck he calls himself. (tldr; it sucks but good luck hearing Tei say that fully)
✧✧✧ Politics
Gray-Mane or Battle-Born?: Neither, ask them again they will punch you for the love of Ruptga they get asked that every time they enter Whiterun.
Stormcloaks or Imperials?: Also neither, Tei hates em both n think they can all choke. Unfortunately they were forced to join the latter due to, yknow, calling dragons & causing massive damage in Imperial territories during isolated fits of rage and the group being more aggressive in wanting something in return for "letting it slide"....oops
Opinion on the Thalmor?: Oh absolutely despises them, they loudly complained having to work with them during the CW & would go out their way to disrupt their plans/piss them off. Sneaking was an option they did not take during the Embassy quest, if it helps paint the picture.
Opinion Of Ulfric Stormcloak?: Tei doens't say they hate people often...but they sure as hell hate Ulfric. Again, their experience in Windhelm added to this heavily, how both the Dunmer & Argonians were treated like shit, with no help whatsoever from the Jarl or guards when the local Nords targeted them. It's still up in the air if I keep this for Tei's story, but I have it where they knew Chases-Starlight's parents, who were killed. When Tei went up & demanded justice/an investigation, only to be brushed off because it "wasn't a priority," it completely destroyed what little empathy or hope they had left for Windhelm as a whole.
Opinion of The Empire?: Cowards too weak to continue fighting back against the Thalmor, in their opinion, & holds these views they grew up with even when being strong-armed into aiding them. If anything they're at least attempting to use their influence to hint towards a rebellion against the Thalmor, but the Empire could also full-on dissolve & they could give less of a shit.
Civil War Quests Completed: 0
✧✧✧ Personal
How Are They Doing? Need Some Juice? A Nap? A Hug?: The whole event of Blood of Kings has fucked with their head, to say the least. It's the starting point of Tei's eventual spiral. So uh...yeah they're not sure how they're doing everything they knew about reality was kinda challenged & they don't rlly have anyone to talk to about it so its cool, its fine, its all good.
A nap is probably needed, not sure about a hug theough they're super flinchy rn
Days Past In Game: 196
Hours of Sleep: 846
Food Items Consumed: 1833
How Many Playthroughs Have You Done With This Character: Tei actually is an older character from the 360 days so uh...maybe 5 at most? This playthrough & their S:EC one coming up when the mod releases being the main ones focusing on their story
Overall How's Your Level Of Fun: Alright I would say! I just been stepping away from Skyrim more often lately to avoid burning out from it
Must Have Mods To Play This Character (for story or other reasons): Ordinator, Wintersun Faiths, Immersive Armors, Sarcastic Player Dialogue, 3DNPC, Inigo, Lucien Flavius, Kaidan 2, Khash the Argonian, Alternative Start, Leviathan Animations, Beast Race Body Paints, Beast HHBB, Apocalypse Magic, Deadly Dragons, Growl: Werewolf Overhaul, Pronouns, uhhh....idk what else without actually listing my current modlist lmao
----
And that's it for Tei! Anyone who wants to do this go on ahead!

DIWALI FEST
*12th November 2020 - 16th November 2020*
It’s festive time and Diwali Fest is here to help you celebrate it across different fandoms!
Tumblr media
Behind the name:
दीपावली (English: /ˌdiːpəˈvɑːli/ )  or दिवाली (English: /dɪˈwɑːliː/) is a term derived from Sanskrit words  दीपम् ( dīpam =lamp)+ आवली ( avɑːli = row). It means Rows of Lights.
Diwali is a week-long fest of lights and we have prompts for all of you based on each day! Since Diwali dates and stories vary throughout South Asia, we have tried to find a balance and added multiple prompts!
A little information about days and prompts under the cut!
12th November: Vasubaras
In Hindu myth centering around the churning of the primordial cosmic ocean known as Samudra Manthan. It was during this churning, different things emerged.
Among those the first to appear were a supernatural wish granting cow named Kamdhenu and Panch-Gavya (five calves).
On this day, people worship cows and their calves with utmost respect as they’re sacred. In villages they are adorned with garlands and offered traditional sweets.
Prompt(s) of the day: Bond between a parent and child.
13th November: Dhanteras
We pray to Dhanwantari, God of Ayurveda and Physician of Gods & Doctors for our health & Laxmi, the Goddess of Success and Auspicious Fortune to bless us with prosperity. Dhanwantari and Laxmi both emerged from Samudra Manthan as well.
On this day, we light clay lamps as an offering to Yama, Host of Death to avoid untimely death and to guide the lost spirits towards their destination.
Prompt(s) of the day: Healing and Self Improvement.
14th November: Narak Chaturdashi and Laxmi Pujan
Narak Chaturdashi is a celebration of Naraksura, the king of Hell’s defeat. He was slain by an enraged Satyabhama, wife of Lord Krishna, for his unforgivable crimes. This day is also called as Kali Chaudas to celebrate Goddess Kali or Mahakali, the most powerful form of Shakti (energy), who helped in defeating Narakasura. It is dedicated to soothing her rage.
Laxmi Pujan is the celebration of union between Laxmi and Vishnu, God of Reality, Karma restoration and Moksha. On the new moon night, Laxmi chose Vishnu as her eternal consort. She is both his wife and divine energy.
[People indulge in Abhyanga Snan, ritualistic bathing before the sunrise, moon still present with Ubtan (a paste made using sesame oil, turmeric, sandalwood powder, rose-water and milk). Having snan (bath) on Narak Chaturdashi holds a special significance as it helps wash off the evil and protect the person from unforeseen events, misfortune etc.]
Prompt(s) of the day: Strong and Fierce Women & Victory Celebrations
15th November: Govardhan Puja
Many stories of Diwali center around Lord Krishna. Once upon a time, people of Vrindavan angered Indra, god of rains and Storms. He started torrential rains and thunderstorms to punish them but the young Krishna saved everyone by lifting Mount Govardhan on his pinky finger until Indra calmed down. Govardhan Puja is a principal ritual of Annakut, a day long festival in remembrance of Krishna. We prepare and offer a variety of vegetarian food to Krishna as our gratitude, traditionally arranged in tiers or steps in front of the deities. Sweetest foods being placed closer and as you descend the steps, the savoury ones at the very bottom.
While the first three days of Diwali are celebrated with prayers to invite health and wealth in a devotee’s life, Annakut day is to offer gratitude for Krishna’s beneficence.
Prompt(s) of the day: Taking a stand & Gratitude.
