lucian is actually one of the funniest ancient authors to read. it's my goal one day to adapt multiple parts of a true history into intermediate latin for students because they need to be exposed to the absolute bullshit insanity that takes place.

Six years in total from middle school + high school... I left it because I really didn't have a need or desire to study it any further after I graduated and thought it more useful to study Japanese in college... also after six years of studying and still not being remotely able to speak French in any real way I was like oh well that's that then.

So if you ever are like "why the fuck can't I do my goal X activitiy after studying Y months/years?"

I encourage you to sit down and determine roughly:

1. How many hours you've actually studied in those months/years? (and if it's nowhere near the hours recommended for say a goal of reading or speaking at B2 level then perhaps consider planning to increase study hours)

2. How much of your study plan is spent focusing on practicing the goal skills? (If your goal is to speak to people at a B2 level, and you have never practiced speaking - or even shadowing after a dialogue - then perhaps change your study plan to Include some speaking related practice).

Since coming to the monastery, Gerome had barely ridden Minerva. Oh, he'd taken her out of course, he would not let her languish in her stall due to this shortcomings, she did not deserve that. Since his mother's death, she had practically taken on the role herself, and like himself she had come from their war-torn future. He had meant to release her in a world where wyverns still lived, but he knew now that he could not live without her and that she would never leave him regardless.

Gerome hefted his axe up and secured at his side. It took some time for him to get Minerva out of her pen, speaking lowly to her as he did so. "I know you've been waiting for me to free myself from the darkness that grips me. If mother were here..." he paused cause his words failed him. "I wish I could hear what she would say."

Cherche, his mother from his timeline, had been struck down when he was too young to know her, but he liked to think she was a bit like Minerva. Who keened lowly and pressed her snout beneath his chin as if to comfort him. Gerome smiled and caressed the side of her head, gloved hand running along her scales. "Yes, I think she'd say that, too."

He led her outside and in one swift, practiced move, mounted her saddle. For the first time in a long time, he took in everything as if he was feeling it again for the first time. The feel of her powerful wings taking flight at his side, her movement beneath him, and as rider and wyvern rose, the feel of the wind in his hair. The first time in a long time, he could feel something.

hooooo boy. i've got my Spanish class today, which i feel deeply, woefully underprepared for (first two years of Spanish classes were hindered by the other teacher at my junior high quitting on the first day, leaving my teacher juggling two sets of students alongside a long-term sub, so we only got through half the material that first year, and spent the entire second year playing catch-up. Spanish III, which i took voluntarily, went okay, but Spanish IV, also taken voluntarily, was an AP class i really struggled in. and, bc i took it, i got dropped straight into Intermediate Spanish without a placement test, and i'm two years out of actively learning the language, though i've tried to keep up with what i know. which is definitely less than i should know for an intermediate college class.)
