Honestly both! I guess I slightly prefer behind it, but more like in a “I am taking this selfie of all of us” kinda way. It’s taken a very long time for me to like how I look in photos but now that I like it, I’m very happy getting in frame!

This is literally everything I love about this band in a nutshell bc 1) this is literally a book they put out with their 7th record You Are OK which like. Need more be said on that album title? And they were just like “hey we not only want to do this record but we want to show you our headspace while we were writing it and let you know we see you and this is how we got here.”

2) the reason they can be like “fuck it lets also do a book” is because they have been completely 100% independent since 2011 (cough fuck Warner Bros cough) and it ALLOWS them to have the mindset Evan mentions. They DID the big label and the one hit in 2008. They could have probably been playing arenas and getting radio play on the alt stations long before now, but they aren’t. Which brings me to 3) because they want to do things authentically and not just churn out money.

This is the band that did a FOR FREE TOUR. AN ENTIRE TOUR!! WHERE YOUR TICKET WAS FREE. JUST SHOW UP. They *CALL YOU* when you pre order their record just to say thanks (and sometimes to prank you but that’s a story for another time #BigStimmyEnergy)

They hop down off stage right after the gig and take photos with as many people as they can. I’ve met these guys more times than I could accurately count. My cousins thought I was dating Jared the guitarist cuz I had him in so many of my profile pics on Facebook 😂 I have NEVER done a paid m&g for TM because their whole THING is “we want to meet you too. Come talk to us.” They don’t HAVE m&g, they have Pat the drummer slinging merch or the post-show hangs or walking the line while everyone is queuing. I think it’s harder to NOT meet TM than to actually meet them 😂

They make it SO OBVIOUS that they care and want to have success in the industry yes, but not at the expense of us. And that is so incredibly rare. I never question if the guys in TM are good people - I sometimes question if they think their shit through enough and definitely know they stumble like everyone. But I never question their intentions. Or where their hearts are.

They’d rather be where they are and happy than the next big thing.

I haven’t read through this thing in a while and honestly kinda forgot I had it, so thank you very much for letting me find it again (and sorry for gushing but. They are my faves. band1. Forever.)

How did you get into Queen/classic rock?

whew, this is going to be a long one

i’ve always been familiar with classic rock, when i was like 4 or 5 my dad was in a band and their gigs were at this run down house that he inherited (i promise we weren’t rich like it didn’t even have working plumbing)

around the same time, my mom owned her own business so i would go to work with her and we would listen to the classic rock station we could pick up so i knew a lot of the songs that would play

my dad and i pretty much exclusively listened to 70s/80s music (mainly ELO, Hall and Oates, Eagles, Ozzy, and Kiss) with occasional 90s pop and grunge sprinkled in there

i grew up in a very small rural community, population of a little over 2,000 people, and in small towns you’re seen as an outsider if you don’t fit this certain image, at least that’s how it was when i was growing up

the school that i went to was a segregation academy unfortunately so there were only about 300 kids Pre-K-12th grade, there were about 12 kids including me in the class and 10 of them were girls. I was usually the one that got picked on because I was different, I didn’t wear the trendy clothes that everyone else wore (mainly because we were poor but i didn’t want to wear them anyway), i didn’t listen to the same music, i didn’t watch the same movies or tv shows so naturally i was made an easy target.

i wanted to be liked because my mom was a people pleaser and it took me forever to get over that mindset i inherited from her, i was always so worried what people would say about me so i started assimilating, i started listening to the disney channel and Nickelodeon music, i watched the shows and started dressing trendier so i left all of the stuff that really made me happy behind so i could fit in

flash forward a few years to about 2012, we moved to a bigger city because my dad got a new job and i went to public school for the first time where obviously you meet a lot of different people from a lot of different backgrounds, i had friends for the first time that grew up similar to i did, they didn’t live in the nicer houses in town either and they didn’t all have the same personalities or interests so i learned that it was okay to be different.

the summer before 7th grade, i started listening to older music again. I got my ‘1’ album out by the beatles and listened to it non stop, i was also super into youtube at the time and watching music videos, somehow i stumbled upon the killer queen top of the pops video and that literally changed my life. i started reading their wikipedia page and realized they wrote all of these songs that i knew and loved. i started listening to their albums in full and knew this is what music was supposed to sound like.

This was also during the height of Pandora radio so i used to play ‘Queen’ stations and that’s how I discovered Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Clapton mainly.

Alright this is a little side story, my freshman year of high school I had a part time job as a hostess at a mexican restaurant and one of my neighbors was having a yard sale, they were selling one of those big cabinet record players with an 8 track player and a radio. The record player actually didn’t work, the belt was stretched out so i found a station i liked and kept it on 24/7 the entire time i was in high school, that exposed me to more 70s/80s artists and my most beloved bands like the Police, Billy Joel, Phil Collins, and Steely Dan

My 7th ARMY Anniversary

Today is my 7th ARMY anniversary!

I became an ARMY on May 23, 2017, and have officially been an ARMY for 7 years. I was 16 then and now I'm 23. It feels like time flew, yet it also feels so long ago.

To celebrate I will write about some of my favorite songs and moments:

1. Favorite BTS song?

I love Film out! Lyrically it means so much to me. It's up there with Yet to Come and Life Goes On regarding its meaning and what I personally get from it. Also, BTS' vocals are amazing, and the song is my vibe sonically. I love the simple yet artistic music video as well.

2. Favorite BTS performance?

All of their performances are amazing, so my pick isn't necessarily more amazing than any other they've done, but no one can deny that Mic Drop is amazing, and this live version is my favorite. Nothing beats a live band version.

3. Favorite BTS album?

I have a connection to all of their albums, but Wings is without a doubt my favorite. From top to bottom, its sound and lyrics are full and impactful. I love that it shows the talent of BTS as a group and as solo artists. It starts with a questioning of the self and ends with BTS' connection to each other and ARMY. In between it showcases the personal feelings of each member, and I can relate to each song in different ways. Overall, it's the BTS album and it has no skips!

4. Favorite BTS cover?

Without a doubt, Fix You. As a child, Coldplay was my first introduction to music and spearheaded my love for music. Hearing my favorite artists cover one of their songs so beautifully (as they always do) makes me speechless. 10/10.

5. An unforgettable moment?

My most unforgettable moment was probably when I became an ARMY. (Yes, I went to the Love Yourself: Tour, but in all of the excitement it's a blur in my memories.)

I remember hearing Ma City for the first time in 2015 on Spotify's radio system, but it wasn't until 2017 that I saw the artists behind the song. As a music lover, I was watching the 2017 BBMAs when I saw them getting their first award. I immediately fell in love with how authentic and grateful they were. Joon caught my eye, and soon I was falling down the rabbit hole. It wasn't long before I officially declared myself an ARMY, made an ARMYs Animo, joined ARMY Twitter, got my first bias (Jin), participated in voting for MAMA, streamed, binge-watched all of Run! BTS, their YouTube content, etc., and eventually experienced my first comeback with Love Yourself: Her. Soon after I got my first of many birthday albums and got solidified by getting my ARMY Bomb.

So, my most unforgettable moments are every time I was at my lowest and BTS helped me smile and made me feel like I wasn't walking alone.

Shifting gears a bit, let's focus on the art they've done recently:

6. Favorite Joon song?

In the same vein as Film out, the sound and lyrics of everythingoes are my favorite. I am a person who struggles to let things go, so this song helps me remember the importance of change. Sonically, this song feels like dancing on a cloud as it rains.

7. Favorite Joon album?

Right Place, Wrong Person comes out very soon, so I'm sure it very well could become my favorite since the word on the street is it's in the alternative genre (my favorite). However, my current favorite Joon album is mono. The album came out when I was one month away from turning 18, stumbling through my first semester of college, and failing said semester. It was October when it came out, and with the rainy nights spent waiting to be picked up from night class, I would blast mono. in my earphones and feel as if I wasn't alone with those heavy feelings. mono. will forever be one of the most personal albums for me. 

8. Favorite Jin song?

Jin, my first bias and fellow Sagitarrius. I see myself in his words of living for the joys in life, and I hope he doesn't struggle with the same moderation issues I do. That being said, my favorite song of his is The Astronaut. As I said, Coldplay means a lot to me, just as they do to Jin, so I'm grateful that Jin collaborated with them. The song is the perfect combination of Jin and Coldplay and the lyrics are perfect as well. Sonically it's uplifting and every time I hear it it makes me remember why music was my first love all over again. Jin's vocals are so beautiful. Also, I have always loved space. It just feels like this song is an example of why I love and connect with Jin as an artist and a person.

9. Favorite Yoongi song?

This is hard. D-Day is my favorite because it's a song that is hype in all of the best ways. Snooze is my favorite sonically as well as lyrically, but there's also Moonlight, People and Life Goes On. My true favorite, however, is Interlude : Set me free. It's up there with Film out, everythingoes, etc. as songs I will always have on my playlist. The vibe of the song is unmatched and lyrically it is so impactful and emotional for me. It makes me want to set myself free. Also, the instrumentals... 

10. Favorite Yoongi album?

I probably played D-2 too much when it came out, but nothing can beat the absolute BANGERS that are on D-DAY. Banger, after banger, after bop, after lyrical legendary, after VOCALS, etc. Listening to D-DAY feels like liberation from the self. 

11. Favorite Hobi song?

Arson. While I have always loved Hope World, and more recently Equal Sign, MORE, STOP, and NEURON; Arson was and still is so different and amazing every time I hear it. However, that isn't to say Hobi has any skips (he doesn't). Sonically, Hobi's vocals have always captivated me and lyrically I think he's truly my favorite writer in BTS. Arson has a chill yet dark vibe that I enjoy and the lyrics are twisted poetry. All I need now is the live and remix ver. on Spotify and I'll be happy. 

12. Favorite Hobi album?

Hobi never misses, all of his albums are amazing, but Jack In The Box (HOPE Edition) is my favorite. Firstly, Hobi's vinyl is my favorite BTS album I own, and his Hope Editon CD album is by far my favorite concept he's ever done. The whole storyline the album goes through is so well done and I love how (at the time) surprisingly Hobi the album is. He truly crafted each song with love and care. Also, special shoutout to some live versions of the songs included. (More please). 

13. Favorite Jimin song?

I love Alone so much. It is completely my vibe. Everything from the dark vocals to the mixing is great. I love the sad yet hopeful lyrics as well. It's one of those songs I always have on my playlist.

14. Favorite Tae song?

The entire Layover EP is such a vibe, but I have always loved Tae's song Winter Bear. It reminds me a bit of some of Coldplay's older songs and Tae's vocals in it are so beautifully understated. The instrumentals in the song are so relaxing as well. 

15. Favorite JK song?

In My You, JK writes and sings such beautiful words, and the instrumentals are so whimsical. However, my true favorite JK song is Shot Glass of Tears. As a person who has a rocky relationship with alcohol and those who overconsume it, listening to this song is like a beautiful sonic therapy. JK's vocals are perhaps my favorite I've ever heard from him, and the instruments of the song are so emotional.

Girls’ Generation that everyone protected, a touching 15th anniversary promotion activities

Last year, Kwon Yuri (along with Girls’ Generation) released the 7th full album, <Forever 1>, to commemorate the 15th anniversary of Girls' Generation's debut. <Forever 1> is a full album that was released after about 5 years and contains a total of 10 songs with various charms, including the title song of the same name. The title song, <Forever 1>, is a pop dance song with a dynamic development and an energetic melody, and Girls' Generation's unique cool singing brings a festival-like exciting atmosphere. After wrapping up the 15th anniversary promotion activities, Yuri said, "It was a 15th anniversary where I realized a lot of things, and I am thankful to the fans. The reason all of this was possible was because the fans stood together and protected the Girls' Generation name. I was moved by the fact that they supported me a lot and gathered strength (for us). As expected, the members also felt the same way.".

When questioned about whether she had imagined her current appearance (and that of Girls' Generation) at the beginning of her debut, Kwon Yuri replied, "Although I never specifically imagined it, I did abstractly think that they are teammates with whom I could spend the rest of my life and that we had the power (to do so). I'm so lucky (to be able to meet with the members). It's particularly special that none of us met because we wanted to be friends, nor did we meet at school. It's a close-knit bond that the sky, or even the universe has connected to my life."

Girls' Generation participated in 'SMTOWN LIVE 2022: SMCU EXPRESS @HUMAN CITY_SUWON (hereinafter referred to as ‘SMTOWN Live 2022’)' as it has been a long time since they have done an album promotion activity. Hyoyeon shed tears of emotion while Girls' Generation performed <Forever 1> that day. Kwon Yuri also recalled that time and said, "Even thinking about it now brings tears to my eyes. The feeling was extraordinary. We gained the energy through the support from our fans who stayed in the same place and waited for us. It was also thanks to the support of the fans who stayed in one place and waited for us during our (group promotion) hiatus. I was really happy because I could feel that they were really cheering me on.". She went on, "There is also a strong bond between me and the people who have been supporting me for a long time in the same place. It was strange and touching at the same time to meet them while I was standing on stage in my 30s, but I believe the fans felt the same way."

Kwon Yuri frequently meets fans at broadcasting stations because she has been active in the industry for a long time. Jaejae, an SBS broadcaster, is a well-known fan of Girls' Generation. She stated, "There is an implicit bond when it comes to fans. It is a welcoming feeling, as if to say, 'We were a singer and a fan, but we meet again like this now,' or 'In the end, 15 years have passed and we have maintained our position and are able to meet each other in this way,' ", she said. "While living as a member of society, I met people who said they nurtured a dream while looking up at me. Now I receive their help, and I am developing a new dream.  Jaejae is exactly the same. Isn't she responsible for making our voices heard a little bit more? So, every day, we would say, 'We need to have interview with Jaejae.' It's great to see someone like that."

Girls' Generation has been steadily popular for 15 years, to the extent that it ranks at the top of the brand reputation even when they are not doing group promotion. Kwon Yuri said, "Actually, while taking a break (of group promotion), I also thought about the secret to maintaining popularity consistently like this. It seems like a lot of reasons came together, but the biggest thing is that we were purely doing what we love and had a good influence." .

"Sometimes we compete in good faith, and other times we rely on each other as friends, family, or an existence more than that," Kwon Yuri explained. We triumphed and shared so much together. "I believe this has started a virtuous cycle," she explained. "This part also serves as a driving force for Girls' Generation. As a member, the symbolism of the group extends beyond the name ‘Girls' Generation’ to me. I really love and care about Girls' Generation, and I think that the people of this nation and the company are also putting effort to protect Girls' Generation.  So, even though we don't always promote (as a group), it feels like we're always creating something (in the name of Girls' Generation)."

Question 1: What are a few words to describe the past year that marked your 15th anniversary since your debut? Please explain why you chose them as well.

Taeyeon: Time flies!  I think we have done more compared to the time we’ve spent.

Sunny: Party!!!  There’s a celebratory meaning for us, but we also celebrated with the fans while making fun memories, and we have also received congratulatory messages from a lot of people, so it was a very fun party year.

Hyoyeon: No more pent up feelings!  I believe that through our 7th album activities, we have finally been able to resolve the feelings that all the fans and I have had about wanting to meet each other.

Yuri: A festival between SONE and SNSD only.  The SNSD members have been preparing for the project from one year ago for the summer of the 15th anniversary, and it is a celebration of SNSD and SONE’s time together so far.

Yoona: Happiness.  It was a happy year for both SNSD and SONE, as the moment everyone had been waiting for arrived.

Question 2: What is your favorite SNSD song?

Taeyeon: “FOREVER 1”!  It's a song that expresses SNSD as it is today, without being bound by a concept!

Sunny: “Kissing You”?? The lyrics of the song are beautiful the more I listen to it. 

Hyoyeon: The song that comes to mind now is “Baby Baby”!  I think it’s a song that expresses when SNSD was innocent well.

Yuri: The Japanese version of “GENIE”!  It’s the official debut song for SNSD in Japan, and it was the opening song for concerts, so it is very memorable.  It's a very memorable song as we did a lot of activities with the song on Japanese programs.

Yoona: I like the song “Summer Night”, which is on the new album.  I like the song’s vibe.

Question 3: What is a memorable moment in your activities in Japan?

Taeyeon: Hot springs trip with the members!

Sunny: The hot springs we went to during the tour!  And the trophy and the award ceremony that our staff held for us when our album became a million seller!!!  It was so fun~

Hyoyeon: The Japan tours! I still remember the arena tours very well.

Yuri: The tours. They were very enjoyable.  When I look back, it was a time when I made various memories with the members and got closer to Japan’s SONE.  I had a lot of fun touring around the different cities of Japan, eating delicious food and getting a feel for the culture of the fans in each city.

Yoona: The arena tours, and the Tokyo Dome concert.

Question 4: Are there any lessons you have learned during your 15th anniversary since debut that you would like to cherish for the future?

Taeyeon: Everything won’t go as you’d like it to, but that’s life.

Sunny: That health is the most important!?  Let's make sure every moment counts and feel thankful!

Hyoyeon: Hard work pays off!  I want to keep being someone who keeps working hard from now on.

Yuri: It will happen one day if you don’t give up.  I’m someone that believes that the power to keep going is the most important, but I think that in order to achieve this, we must believe that no matter what adversity, if we don't give up, it will come true.  I am striving to continue as I have.

Yoona: That a good moment will come one day if you steadily keep at it! 

Question 5: Please tell us once again what SNSD's appeal is.

Taeyeon: Variety. Everyone’s personality is different.

Sunny: Diverseness!! The member’s personalities are similar but different, and everyone has different quirks so it’s very interesting to see!!!

Hyoyeon: An eight colored bird* (A variety of appeals) I really feel like SNSD can take on any concept. *TL note: Bird species name is the fairy pitta

Yuri: I feel that Japan’s SONE would know that better than me! 

Yoona: Energy!

Question 6: What are you interested in or want to try now?

Taeyeon: I’m interested in psychology, because it’s something I don’t know.

Sunny: I want to try making smoked food using actual firewood and charcoal (laughs)

Hyoyeon: I’ve recently been interested in going to countries I haven’t gone to before! Also, I’d like to try having a world tour as a DJ!

Yuri: Action?  I’d like to try being an actress for an action drama one day (laughs)  Kind of like The Huntresses? 

Yoona: It would be nice to cook again if I had the time.

Question 7: A message for SONE JAPAN please.

Taeyeon: Everyone, please spend your precious days [well]!  May healthy days and only good things come to you all ♡

Sunny: My beloved SONE JAPAN♡ I always long for the day to see you again (T-T) I miss delicious Japanese food, the interesting and cute things, and above all I miss your twinkling eyes that you all have when you look at SNSD!!!!  I miss the fans that you paste our names and pictures on, too! (laughs) I believe that the day we can meet again is soon!! Be well and don’t forget me!! Please wait until we can meet again♡ Thank you always!!!!!

Hyoyeon: I was very happy to be able to see you all at SMTOWN in Japan the other day! It’d be nice if there were more chances to be able to see you frequently from now on. Thank you always!
