I have an AITA question here.

Last week, I had to cover the kitchen three times last week at the daycare I work at, once scheduled, twice due to the staff getting sick.

This tends to be murder on my body at the best of times (bending my 5’10” body over for dishes, standing, etc.) and my right knee started acting up the week before anyway.

I have the best knees in my family, by the way, but writing this up on Sunday night I’d put a 9 out of the 10 pain scale for trying to go down “proposal kneeling” on that knee now. That’s an estimate, I got myself braced to try then my nervous system vetoed the attempt.

I was also exhausted from that week, because I still had to do as much of my closing shift as possible so someone else had to do breakfast, the only person available is - not competent, there’s a reason they have them do the “serve cold cereal” and me the hot lunch - and playing catch up on what they leave behind is, well, one can imagine.

Anyway, that’s to explain the following texts.

At the point of serving lunch on Friday, I fully believed we would be going to a family outing and hour drive away for my brother’s birthday.

My family knows I’m an introvert, and surviving my brother’s extroversion is physical painful if I’m not 100%.

I sent the following text to my mother after work and feeling approximately 80%…

I'm glad I'm feeling better now, though.

There was a point in the middle of lunch dishes where I was considering calling in sick tomorrow.

For [Bro’s] dinner. 😜

I received this response from my mother:

No, you will be there, because he would be there for your birthday.

Fortunately, the venue had been changed to a restaurant 20 minutes away, which my knee handled being trapped in a car significantly better.

In the end, the birthday lunch went very well.

But I found that response… Harsh.

And not considering my own feelings at all.

So, AITA here?

There’s currently a poll going around where about 34% of people voted that Dean WOULN’T kill Cas to save Sam’s life (assuming it’s the only way)… I didn’t want to be mean in the notes but y’all voting no are delusional 😭 another 15% of people are voting other and saying stuff like “it depends on the season”

First of all, early seasons Dean would be 100% instantly on board no matter what. And honestly he wouldn’t even be that sad (maybe guilty, but not that sad). I’m talking like season 4, 5, maybe even 6. Late seasons Dean would be incredibly tortured and devastated but ultimately do it because above all else he NEEDS to protect Sam. That’s one of his defining character traits, and has consistently shown he’d do pretty much anything.

“Oh well Dean would only sacrifice himself he wouldn’t sacrifice anyone else” WRONG! Cas has a martyr complex and would love to die for the winchesters (more specifically, he’d love to die for Dean and he’d love to die for anything Dean needs (aka Sam)). “Always ready to bleed for the Winchesters” Cas would honestly kill himself to save Sam before late seasons Dean even gets the chance to feel conflicted about it. But to keep with the poll and making it about Dean’s choice, assuming Cas doesn’t just kill himself, I think late seasons Deans would be pretty easily convinced by Cas being so willing about it.

I just don’t see a single situation where this is ever a no and not an emphatic, yes Dean would kill Cas to save Sam if it was the only way.

Can we talk abt how much Guillermo Actually. Truly. Deeply. Cares for these group of misfit assholes??

He even lists Colin Robinson (as he should!) but Benji couldn't even be bothered to remember his name

And like, that's important!! Because Colin is one of them! He's a part of them. They are all a part of each other. To not love one of them is to not love them.

Guillermo is different. He does love them. He loves all of them. He loves all their silly bitchy faults. He loves things about them that have nothing to do with being 'a cool vampire' or what they can do for him. His genuine, inescapable love is what makes him different. Nadja, Laszlo, Colin, and Nandor can't not be affected by that, even though they try so hard to be.

I can't get over that this episode gave such a clear beautiful reason why these selfish, petty, dismissive, eternal beings would risk their lives to fight a whole clinic of their kind or keep a dangerous secret and try to help or hell, pretend that they don't care about that very big juicy secret just so Guillermo doesn't have to stress abt another person knowing (Colin definitely cares and probably already knows. Could he feed on Guillermo's anxiety and antics of keeping it from Nandor? ofc. But he doesn't and even lets Guillermo off the hook by indicating he both doesn't need to tell him or be bothered to try to hide it from him)

It's because of Guillermo's persistent love for them that they find the ability to love him back. It comes back to him. The love he gives to them, they give it back to him.

Look at what happened without even being a vampire: he became one of them.

Rewatching The Bear 2x03 is actually crazy and feels so clarifying because like...

The ep starts with Carmy speaking at Al-Anon about fun, and how maybe he needs to have more of it. He acknowledges that fun is complicated for him because as a kid his family tended to ruin things for him, even though this was often unintentionally done. He says that he thinks if he had more amusement or enjoyment in his own life then it would be easier to provide that for other people. (Big note here that part of the purpose OF a restaurant is to provide amusement and enjoyment for people. Then add in Luca's conversation with Marcus in 2x04 about how the best food comes from being open and inspired, and spending time in the world. So Carmy having fun could theoretically make him better at his job.)

Anyway, Carmy gives that spiel at Al-Anon. Then we get a brief interlude of Syd looking at articles about recent restaurant closings and being stressed.

And then we're immediately back with Syd and Carmy cooking together in his kitchen. She fucks up a dish again, and he suggests they stop cooking and do a palate reset.

Like... this all happens within the first five minutes of the ep. This man has been musing about how he needs to have more fun.... and then he suggests spending the day eating in the city with Syd..... ergo that's his definition of fun. This is literally him making an attempt at doing something for amusement or enjoyment!! He planned this!! I fully believe he had this idea even before Sydney fucked up the dish. This man said I need to have more fun and you know what would be fun? Spending the day with my business partner eating delicious food. So he sends her home with plans to meet in an hour.

And then. AND THEN. Claire calls. First of all when she asks if he's busy, he looks at the white board and the very first thing on the To Do list is "call fridge guy" so like. lmao. I love foreshadowing. And he literally is busy!!! Not with unpleasant tasks to do but with something FUN. Something fun that he planned FOR himself.

And what is it that Claire asks him to do? Is it something fun? No. She asks him to HELP HER MOVE her mom. Like, the least fun task in the history of anything, the thing that people historically HATE being asked to help with. And he doesn't look excited about it! He looks torn. He looks...weird idk. Like ohhhh it's actually so crazy that Carmy bails on a truly fun day with Sydney in order to do a manual labor favor for Claire.

This is so ripe for analysis you simply cannot tell me it doesn't mean anything.

Carmy thinks about how he needs more fun, plans a fun day for himself, and then, when someone he tried to avoid asks him to do a not fun favor, he says yeah, I'll do that instead.
