No Service Cremations Meadowbrook NY
When a loved one passes away, the funeral service is a time to pay tribute to their life. However, some families prefer to skip this ceremony and opt for a direct cremation.
This option is more cost-effective than a traditional funeral or burial. In addition to saving money, it is also less time-consuming. To know more about No Service Cremations, visit the Farewell Funerals website or  call 0404660974.
A no service cremation is an affordable option for families who wish to honour their loved one in a private and personal manner. It eliminates many of the costs associated with traditional funerals and cremation with a memorial or funeral service, such as casket rental, funeral home fees, and embalming charges.
It also allows family and friends to create their own celebration of life after the cremation takes place. This can be done at any time, anywhere, with as few or as many people as desired.
This option is also a more cost-effective choice than a burial package. It includes communication with an experienced funeral arranger, a direct cremation, and return of the ashes to the family or next of kin. This is the most economical option and can save you thousands of dollars in costs.
It is important for family members to say their last farewells, but funerals are not a requirement. Many families decide to forgo the service in favor of a memorial ceremony at a later date or even no service at all. This is not a bad choice, as it can help the grieving process.
In this situation, a direct cremation or burial is an excellent option. These services are simple affairs without a viewing, visitation or religious service. They are also less expensive than traditional funerals.
The funeral home will prepare the body for cremation or entombment. They will then transfer the body to the crematory or grave site for committal. The family will receive the ashes afterward and can choose to scatter them, keep them or place them in a memorial garden.
Embalming is a common practice in traditional funeral services, especially when families want to hold a viewing. However, this is not always a requirement and many choose to skip it. This allows you to save money on the cost of embalming and the casket as well.
Embalming involves the use of chemicals such as methanol, phenol, glutaraldehyde, and paraformaldehyde. These are not only dangerous to morticians but can leach into the surrounding soil and waterways, causing damage to nature.
Indirect cremation takes place so soon after death that the preservation methods used in embalming are not needed. This makes it a safer and environmentally friendly option.
In New York, a casket is not required for cremation. You can choose a container from any combustible material, including wood, cloth covered wood, wicker, or teak, as long as it does not contain metal parts. You can also purchase a container that is used only for the service, known as an alternative container. These are usually inexpensive, lightweight, and made of cardboard or pressboard.
You can also opt for a cremation only service without any ceremony, wake, visitation, or viewing. This is known as direct cremation and it is the most affordable option. A simple container is used rather than a traditional casket and it may save you thousands of dollars. You can still have a memorial service or a funeral afterwards if you wish to do so.
A grave is not needed when you choose a cremation service. There are several different options for cremation services including traditional viewing/visitation cremation service which is similar to a funeral service but without the body present and direct cremation – a cremation that omits a ceremony, wake or visitation.
You can also choose to keep the cremated remains at home ($70-$2,250) by using an urn. This option is often a good choice for people who want to save money on funeral costs or if they are concerned that their family may not be capable of handling the cost of a funeral service. To know more about No Service Cremations, visit the Farewell Funerals website or  call 0404660974.
If you have a bad experience with a cremation provider, it is important to notify the proper authorities. This will ensure that appropriate action is taken and other consumers are protected.

THROUGH THE EYES OF LOGAN MERDOCK, THE FIRST CEO OF NEWS CORPORATION LIMITED
the demise of your father exacted a profound emotional toll upon you. the venerable man who had nurtured you bid farewell to the mortal realm, succumbing to the inexorable march of old age. as he lay in repose within his casket, the profound weariness etched beneath his eyes served as a poignant testament to the passage of time. a multitude of mourners, some faces eluding your recall, converged upon his funeral, marking an indelible chapter in your memory that would undergo a transformative evolution as you traversed the threshold into adulthood. following the demise of your father, you assumed the mantle of responsibility, steering the helm of news corporation, a modest newspaper bequeathed to you by your progenitor. however, the mere stewardship of this familial periodical seemed insufficient to perpetuate the legacy of a man whose influence resonated beyond the confines of familial ties. over the ensuing decade, your ambition manifested in the expansion of your news media dominion, casting its net over the vast expanse of australia, new zealand, and the united kingdom. upon your relocation to the bustling metropolis of new york city, your ambitions soared to unprecedented heights. strategic acquisitions ensued, as you wielded your financial prowess to secure influential publications such as the sun and the times, brazenly extending your reach beyond geographical constraints. unfazed by conventional boundaries, you exhibited a keen acumen for embracing emergent electronic publishing technologies, seamlessly transitioning your media conglomerate into the realms of websites and broadcasts. by the turn of the millennium, the behemoth that was your news corporation limited had burgeoned into a formidable entity, presiding over a staggering 800 companies spanning more than 50 nations. your financial ledger bore witness to a net worth surpassing the staggering threshold of $5 billion. at the zenith of your career, you stood as the quintessential embodiment of the american archetype—an icon in the realm of news media. your legacy would be etched in the annals of history as the visionary who erected a media empire rivaling the juggernauts of fox news and cnn, despite occasional lapses in foresight, particularly concerning matters of trust.
THROUGH THE EYES OF MONGKUT “BOSS” SHINWATRA, THE SECOND CEO OF NEWS CORPORATION LIMITED & YOUR FATHER
your subservience to THE BURNING GODS was unequivocally established from the very inception of your existence in this unforgiving realm. emerging into the world bereft of privilege and burdened by a foreign surname, the ascent up the corporate hierarchy became a herculean endeavor without the crutch of external support. concealed within the veneer of a business tycoon was a man clandestinely indulging in the consumption of a tuna fish sandwich, surreptitiously stowed away in his briefcase, devoured during clandestine journeys through the subways leading to the heart of manhattan. a significant portion of your life was shrouded in obscurity—business attire sourced predominantly from secondhand emporiums, shoes a size too snug. yet, every possession within your purview bore the indelible mark of hard-earned merit, a testament to the ceaseless struggle to substantiate your worth. logan merdock, in his unwavering trust, never entertained suspicions of duplicity from your quarter. in his discerning gaze, you epitomized loyalty, an unwavering devotee steadfast in your commitment. the notion of betrayal at your hands or the contemplation of you orchestrating the surreptitious severance of his vital arteries during the nocturnal hours remained inconceivable. following his abrupt “disappearance,” the mantle of CEO was unceremoniously draped upon your shoulders. a transfer of authority that, unbeknownst to many, was an extension of benevolence from those who facilitated your ascension up the corporate ladder—THE BURNING GODS. the accolades, privileges, and responsibilities that now vested in you were the fruits of others’ machinations. the metamorphosis from a mere foot soldier to an esteemed associate seemed an inconceivable leap, yet as you surveyed the cityscape from the vantage point of your towering skyscraper, an ironic smile played upon your countenance. a grin directed at those who had, perhaps erroneously, underestimated your latent potential. little did you grasp, ensconced within the echelons of power, that you were naught but an intermediary, a marionette manipulated by the unseen puppeteers who had bestowed this dominion upon you.
THROUGH THE EYES OF JESSICA PASAPHAN SHINWATRA, THE FIRST BRIDE OF BOSS SHINWATRA & YOUR MOTHER
the gestation period, characterized by its intricate complications, transcended the conventional bounds of difficulty. rather than the anticipated manifestation of a nascent branch of vitality, the sensation akin to harboring a parasitic entity pervaded your consciousness. this life, seemingly estranged from your very essence, surreptitiously pressed against your internal organs, usurping your vitality in a silent but inexorable theft. the cellular genesis within you, intended to be a testament to the continuation of life, emanated an unsettling strangeness. this cellular being did not resonate as an organic extension of your own self, and the realization of impending motherhood remained an incongruity, a role for which you were never inherently predisposed. the matrimonial facade, devoid of authentic love, had evolved into a dispassionate charade—a performative duty staged ostensibly for the scrutiny of the world at large. upon the revelation that your offspring would be bereft of the capacity to perpetuate the familial lineage through the paternal name, a profound sense of futility besieged your maternal aspirations. the meticulous investment in fostering her growth now appeared to be a futile exertion of energy. a latent wish yearned for her premature demise—a prospect that seemed to hold the promise of sparing her from the purportedly wretched travails of existence. amidst the throes of childbirth, a visceral agony eclipsed your cognizance, rendering you oblivious to the fact that the newborn’s entrance into the world had been marked by an eerie silence. in that delicate moment, your surreptitious yearning for a life unfulfilled almost attained fruition. however, the void you felt was not one of fulfillment but rather an overwhelming emptiness as her diminutive voice finally pierced the room. a discordant symphony, the heralding of her existence, ushered forth a profound sense of emptiness within you—a harbinger of the resentment that would cast its lingering shadow over the entirety of your maternal journey.
THROUGH THE EYES OF ANCHALI SHINWATRA, THE PODA OF NEWS CORPORATION LIMITED
the mantle of your father’s favor rests heavily upon you, an ostensibly coveted position that proves, in essence, to be a grievous affliction. the once-palpable animosity emanating from your mother has metamorphosed into a palpable pride exuded by your father. wherever your footsteps echo, a recurring refrain reverberates—a chorus that deems you a mirror reflection of your progenitor, from the resolute handshake to the terse temperament. this ceaseless comparison, rather than flattering, induces a visceral nausea that churns within the pit of your stomach. the lore and fables whisper of your father as a mere pawn entangled in a grand theatrical production, yet such conjectures are left unspoken within the familial confines. the chessboard of politics becomes your stage, and you, an adept player, immerse yourself in the art of discernment, assimilation, and unwavering obedience. it is this silent and strategic dance that has propelled you to the zenith of your current standing. the protective embrace of THE BURNING GODS, while replete with its advantages, occasionally exacts a toll, for the act of covering for those above you is not without its psychic cost, akin to an inexorable vampiric draw that threatens to desiccate your very essence. enduring the maelstrom of appeasing the masses, a grave task, transmogrifies your existence into a semblance of living hell. yet, as the president of domestic operations, you are privy to the inner sanctum where decisions are conceived and executed. news corporation limited burgeons under your stewardship, and you stand poised on the precipice of expansion, ready to take over once your father passes ( which will likely be soon ). fearful of vulnerability, you eschew any candid admission of this trepidation, opting instead to immerse yourself inexorably in the crucible of work, utilizing it as a salve for the soul, a distraction from the gaping void of emotional exposure.
𝐓𝐋𝐃𝐑;
The story unfolds through the perspectives of key characters in News Corporation Limited:
Logan Merdock (First CEO): after the demise of his father, logan takes charge, expanding the media empire globally with strategic acquisitions and technological transitions, leaving a lasting legacy. Mongkut "Boss" Shinwatra (Current CEO & Anchali’s Father): originating from obscurity, mongkut rises to become ceo through loyalty, orchestrated by the unseen power of the burning gods, revealing his transformation and the complexities of power. Jessica Pasaphan Shinwatra (Anchali's Mother): jessica’s maternal journey is marked by the challenges of childbirth, a dispassionate marriage, and a complex relationship with her daughter, anchali. Anchali Shinawatra (PODA): anchali, the current poda, grapples with the weight of her father’s legacy, a challenging familial dynamic, and her role within the powerful but enigmatic sphere of THE BURNING GODS. she seeks solace in work, anticipating the imminent takeover of news corporation limited.

Kendall doesn’t love Naomi, Shiv never loved Tom, Tom didn’t love Greg, Greg didn’t love Tom. Tom stopped loving Shiv. Connor doesn’t really love Willa (did he even notice her whole face has changed?), Willa doesn’t love Connor. Logan didn’t love his pew bench and most of his pew bench didn’t love him or didn’t have time to stop.
Roman though.
Roman loves Gerri, Georgia always told us that and when she talks spinoff it’s Colin, Stewey or Roman & Gerri (and yes, RomanGerri wasn’t Jesse’s, it’s Georgia’s and Tony’s and J's and Kieran’s and Mark’s, but that’s enough!)
Tumblr media
From reading around, I think the finale brought home the depth of Roman’s  feelings from seeing him watch her on film reciting a maybe dirty maybe spiritual limerick and fall to the floor with it. He took from her, thinking he was entitled to ask her jump into bed or on that grenade. This spoilt little puppy prince who had never suffered a consequence. He attempted to climb his Everest, locked up in a cage. But as soon as he steps out of the cage at Logan’s funeral and abandons the poorly worn skin of whomever he was supposed to be for dad, and the reality of his feelings and his guilt and his shame hits, he realises he barely deserved to be at her feet. He’s a bruised, hollow prince who ‘knifed’ the only person who had real adult expectations of him (in every sense of the term - the scripts are part of my canon), for a throne he didn’t even want. How could you not break down at that??
And it morphs into a love that doesn’t need anything to feed the flame. No reciprocity, no touching, no comfort. Nothing transactional. It doesn’t even need to be spoken or told. It simply exists, in those jelly glass eye balls. He hasn’t earned it as it disappears behind screens and glass partitions where the adults are. She’s put her shoes back on and she’s walked out of his glass room.
Tumblr media
Consuming that love becomes the only thing he can do to feel its burn, to satisfy the craving. He won’t be able to give her slow pleasure or any of his fluids but he can partake in hers in some way. Smart people know what they are and God forbid he sullies anymore of her with the oozing blood at the seam big bag of bullshit that he is. But you better believe he can find a way to have her on his brain, his heart, his tongue, his bloodstream.
He steps out of the cage and bids farewell to the toxicity of denying his own heart, he goes from a cage where he could just take, in exchange for pretending to be someone - no consequences but the occasional beating son I promise, to a world where he’s himself, needy and broken, nothing of value to give. He breaks out but the realisation of having fucked his relationship with her is the price of admission into the real world of his real feelings.
Tumblr media
Oh she’d pick up the phone if he called, she’d meet him at the bar (I think he even knows that) but his superego, despite his hysterical cries about how good he looks and you can’t really see how broken he is and that it should be him, has acknowledged the fact that he doesn’t deserve her and wonders why she would take any interest in him if he was no longer this diamond in the rough? Can’t bear her eyes on him, if he’s just the nothing bullshit who fired her and lashed out at her. Which is ironic really because, being mad at Ken’s for his abuse, protecting Shiv, the clarity on his and all of their worth, staying and being the face of the humiliation, signing the deal. These are signs he’s morphing into something with grit, something worthy.
I think. Who knows. It’s day 1. They’re slow but it only lengthens the - excruciating - pleasure. It wasn’t a healthy, happy love story. It was a star crossed First Love meeting Last Love with all the unmatched expectations and maturity it entails, but only they knew it and a few of the people that watch. And really this was the most beautifully crafted thing I’ve ever seen on TV, the depths are almost out of reach. Romey-o Loves Gerri, it’s a feminist show and yes even the fact that Logan didn’t consider his grandkids his bloodline (and of course Roman would hate to have children and of course Shiv didn’t have time to tell him about her pregnancy). All these things are in the show and barely visible and thank god for that.
And you can wonder why the hell he’s in a bar smiling and crying at his cocktail or you may prefer to read it as being only about his dad or only about his sibs or just the company if you can manage the connective tissue. But to me, yes of course, his last second on screen is him ingesting her in some way. I mean, OBVIOUSLY. It’s not because it wasn’t in your face, that it wasn’t the realest thing, the only true romance this show has indulged.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐃𝐎𝐖𝐇𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 would not have attended this hellish event on his own accord . going down to such a despicable place to him seemed like going against the angels , but knowing many that he cares for are attending has forced his hand . logan has pulled one of his funeral suits from his closet ( the one he wore to his little sister's farewell ) and paired it with black shoes and his seraph blade hidden underneath . while he does not like the scenery ( as beautiful as it looks in the snow ) he does plan to try to have as much fun as he can .

The Cost of Cremation In Australia
costs associated can add to the stress on loved ones. With the average cost of a funeral at $8,048 in Australia, this expense is forcing many families to consider alternative options like cremation. Choosing the right services and making careful decisions are essential to ensuring a dignified farewell for loved ones, without placing financial burdens on families.
The average cost of a cremation in Australia is significantly less than that of a burial and can be considerably cheaper when you opt for a direct cremation option. A basic funeral cremation package typically includes transfers into the funeral directors care, a simple coffin or casket and any paperwork required by the Australian Government including a death certificate.
In addition, a simple urn is usually included in the cost of a cremation. More elaborate or decorative urns or those that are plated in precious metal can increase the overall price of a cremation. If you want to have a permanent memorial for your loved one, you may wish to purchase a headstone or plaque, however, you can also choose from a range of memorial gardens and trees, benches and parks where you can scatter your loved ones ashes.
You can also choose to have a green or natural burial which can be significantly cheaper than a traditional burial. This option eliminates the use of a steel casket and allows the body to be buried in one of the dozens of natural burial grounds around Australia. Another option is to be buried on your own land, however, this can involve council fees and is not possible for all properties.
The cost of a cremation can also be affected by the type of service you have, as you may wish to hold a service at the cemetery before or after the ceremony at the crematorium. Alternatively, you can choose to hold the two ceremonies at the same venue and have a dual-service cremation which can be more affordable than a full funeral. Whether you are looking for an affordable cremation or a full-service funeral, funeral directors can provide you with transparent pricing and advice on how to save on costs. You can also find out more about funeral plans and prepaid funerals to see how you can save on end-of-life expenses in advance. after all...you came
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: experiencing the blip and losing your loved ones is a feeling you thought you wouldn't have to experience. Especially when you were in love with the Wolverine.
Pairing: Logan Howlett x fem!reader
Side note: I went back to watching X-Men and I was thinking about what would happen if Logan was dusted and came back????
Enjoy!
10 years after the blip.
the world came apart when their loved ones evaporated into thin air. the loved ones who remained existed now alone, with no one to talk to like they used to, no beloved people to drink coffee in the morning when your day just began, no stolen kisses on the cheek, lips that were felt every single day.
markets crashed, stores were emptied and the social life as everyone knew perished. as for the people that were left they lost their way of socializing scared to connect with people, scared of this happening again. opting at the begging to be alone. after 3 years or so people started to liven up knowing the life they had was lost so they built again. avengers half of them left, held public speeches attempting to bring up people's spirits pleading for them to move on. Charles school was left with a handful of teachers and students feeling more misplaced than ever losing their favorite blue professor/politician/ bad liar at cards Beast, sliver haired woman with a tinge of sass Storm was gone and the Canadian with the smirk and smile that could soon women and men into a trans was gone, Logan, your Logan was gone.
they even held a funeral for them, a small intimate one and in between all of the 20 people, there was Y/N, Logan's love. she stood next to Charles seeing as everyone left, everyone returning to their routine. to move forward and continue moving. looking at the three tombstones Charles asks Y/N treading lightly on the subject
'what are you going to do?' 'i don't know... move?'
'where?' Charles asked dreading what she thought when she said 'moving
Y/N replied smiling at the professor 'i always wanted to see Alhambra.'
'you know, moving on is invariably impossible.'
'and yet we have to go through it.'
Y/N snickers dryly trying to break this conversation that she feels is pulled out of a motivational post on social media. 'I just hope that Logan was fulfilled with his life.' Y/N said sensing the related heart-tightening feeling that hurt her with no mercy. Charles announces his voice steadying her 'whenever he came to work he always came in with a smile, that is all I can say.'
the broken-hearted woman smiles thinking back to when Logan was a professor and each morning he would have a small makeout session with her before he left for work to give himself a minor buzz throughout work and for his woman to remember how his beard tickled, nudging on her skin, his hands holding her in place.
'i was the same.' she replied with a small tinge of a smile
'i need to go, Charles. I need to move away from this place for the moment.' 'when you want to return, you are always welcome.' with that Charles bid her farewell seeing y/n running away from the place she dubbed her home.
moving around the world was something on backpack people did, people who wanted to try new things and see new places, so did y/n...in a way. she moved from place to place, state to state, and continent to continent settling in a small Italian province and buying a small house with the money she spent waitressing, cooking, cleaning dishes for a long time, long enough if you ask her. the house was everything she wanted a secluded house with highlands all around, a neat and fresh garden with vegetables to nourish her, a tiny farm with chickens and a car to drive her to the nearest town. she made it. she moved on from everything else, still contacting Charles now and then checking up on him sending him some herbs she has in her garden, and him sending her back some seeds he uncovers when traveling around the world. she liked it like this. it was nice, the peace, the serenity something you cannot buy.
looking at the tv she sees the title reading it with a sour taste in her mouth.
'the blip is being reversed. people, rejoice!
'ah, I'm jealous.'
turning the tv off she goes out in the pleasant Italian weather pulling her to get another tan on her skin.
ring ring
y/n's phone rings hearing the superior voice she always had a heated discussion with 'hey, Stephen. what do you want?'
'very playful, y/n. I was thinking of visiting you. I was thinking about your fresh tea the other day.' Stephen asked hoping that he is not interfering in her sanctuary 'do. my door is always open.'
'how about now?'
'better than later, Stefan.' y/n giggles hearing the doctor sucking his teeth rather loudly as she hangs up
-2 days beforehand-
'i called sam the other day.'
'What did you say to him?'
'well, I called him and said ''hey, sam, it's bucky I am back. but he thought it was a prank and hung up, then I went to his house and I swear to god he had a heart attack. '
'it's good to have you back, buck.'
Steve grabbed his partners' hand as they entered the meeting room at the avenger's HQ seeing tony hovering over someone giving them a talking to, for whatever reason.
'when you appear the first thing you do is call her! not us! we are the b plot.' tony shouted his cocky tone taking a turn in the sterner direction. 'i know, I fucking know, tinman, but I cannot remember her number.' bucky and steve move closer seeing over tony's shoulder seeing Logan.
Logan!!
he is here and... older? his dark brown hair is now streaked grey, his crow's feet prominent as ever, his beard white and fluffy like a cactus bush with the smallest tracks of black that are barely holding to its place to show. bucky gasps loudly as a telenovela woman who found out she has a twin daughter she didn't know she gave birth to and now sees her 25 years later, as steve only watches feels like fainting seeing his great friend there in front of him when he worried that he lost his bike riding friend forever.
logan in all his 'old man glory' stands up his firey laced tone going around the room 'stark, do you think seeing your face first is something I want. I thought that my girl was here so I came here, if she is not here bring me to someone who knows where she is!!!'
'i know someone.' bucky resolved to give the wolverine some glimmer of hope.
177A Bleecker Street
bucky stood with Logan in front of the door looking at him with a smile 'y/n and Stephen are good friends, he will know where she is.'
'how do you know that?' logan asked being anxious about the answer the door opens and Stephen answers instead of the winter soldier 'i met y/n somewhere in Asia when I was searching for my answers and she gave me shelter. she gave me hope in people when I thought that people are merely walking on this earth with only to burn it .'
'she is special.' logan smiled at the thought of his woman.
'who are you, old man?' Stephen asked his tone turning hostile 'why are you asking about her?' bucky chimes in' this is logan, y/n's boyfriend. the wolverine.'
Stephen looks at him his brow lifting in suspicion, y/n talked about her lover, how he talked, walked, and looked. he checked only 2 of the 3 boxes. ' you look different than she said.'
logan looking at himself, shrugs ' i guess I aged. listen as much as I want to prove to you that I am her man, I need to see her. do you know where she is?'
this man was desperate to find her the same tinge of want to find his lover, the same one he heard in y/n voice when she was asking Stephen to turn back time and tell logan what would happen to him and kiss him one last time. lifting his phone to his ear Stephen smiles as he speaks into the phone
'very playful, y/n. I was thinking of visiting you. I was thinking about your fresh tea the other day.' doctor of the mystic arts looks at logan's face seeing the desire to take the phone and eavesdrop to his lover's voice
'how about now?' hearing y/n giggles the doctor fakes sucking his teeth rather loudly so she can hear him. hanging up Stephen opens a small portal. 'stand behind me. and do not scare her.'
'wouldn't dream of it.' logan pursues leaving bucky behind as he thanks him in a whisper
-now-
strolling out of the portal Stephen saw y/n in her garden, putting in her basket the herbs that Stephen would drink. logan sees her, finally. she is there in new surroundings, with a new car, and she comes across as stable. she managed to get everything they talked about late in the night... she got it... without him. she was stable without him to give her encouragement and give her a helping hand. standing behind the magician he waited for his cue, Stephen trudged forward into the sunlight as logan waited in the shadow.
'y/n!' Doctor of the mystic arts shouted
'Stephen!' she returned her smiles wide as ever, her white dress swaying in the light breeze as the basket now full of herbs shushed as she walked closer to her friend 'as always welcome, how are you?' 'good, I have brought someone for the tea, is that okay?' 'as long as they won't destroy my home I am fine with it.'
Stephen turns to the shadow and logan steps out treading softly into the wooden floor. y/n feels her smile drop on the floor along with the basket. her steps recede once and she looks at the sorcerer her smile quivering 'what kind of joke is this, Stephen? this is-is not funny.'
Stephen answers carefully seeing her eyes brimming with tears 'that is logan, he is ba-' 'no, this won't happen again, I fell for it once not again. Stephen, I am telling you whatever illusion this is, stop it.'
y/n looks at the illusions that felt all too real and tears ensue 'Stephen, please. this is too, too much.'
logan steps once more grabbing her hand softly his finger brushing against her knuckles, her eyes open, the doe eyes he fell in love with now letting tears fall liberty in quantity on her plump cheeks he kissed so many many many times 'darling, I am here. I am back.'
'i don't believe this, this is a dream.' she fired back her voice breaking beyond the point she could only sob. stepping once more closed his hands landed on her waist and his chapped lips landed on her forehead, his nose inhaling the scent that made y/n, 100% love and 100% home. y/n felt her hands grabbing his waist slowly fearful that he will disappear into a dream-like bubble and she will wake up from her nap.
feeling that the two lovers need some alone time Stephen leaves.
'what took you so long?' y/n sobbed into his chest hearing the heartbeat she need to hear when times are tough. 'do you know what i went through, you ass?!' she punced his arms that were still the same as before, muscle on muscle.
'i am so so sorry, bub. I will never leave you again.' logan sworn to keep the words he now uttered as an oath he will never break. she pulls away smiling at him, a small smile going through the layers of tears. her hands land on his cheek as she touches his face, familiarizing herself with the face she loved.
'you have greys.' she touched the facial hair delicately.
'that's the first thing you notice?' logan playfully answers back.
y/n hits his chest answering quickly 'ass!'
leaning down logan swears again to the love of his life 'y/n I am sorry I left you alone, I swear to everything I am that I will never leave you again. I love you, sweetheart.'
kissing her as his life depended on it y/n and logan finally felt at peace.
End.

The complete list of films featured in 2021′s “31 Days of Oscar” marathon
What follows is the exhaustive list of all 403 short- and feature-length films featured on this blog over the last thirty-one days for the 31 Days of Oscar marathon. This number is up from last year’s count of 327 and is the second-highest number of films I have ever featured in this marathon (behind the 410 films from 2016). Despite the number, this remains only a fraction of the nearly 5,000 films that have been nominated for Academy Awards. This year’s marathon was harder to plan than usual due to the fact it was presented in alphabetical order - with the exception of any write-ups I did.
BREAKDOWN BY DECADE 1927-1929: 7 1930s: 44 1940s: 63 1950s: 63 1960s: 46 1970s: 25 1980s: 29 1990s: 28 2000s: 25 2010s: 43 2020s: 30

The bitter end
Written with @despite-everything-exe
Warnings: major character death
Relationships: platonic DRLAMP (anxceit? maybe)
"It's coming," Patton whispered, barely audible as he looked on in fear. Everything was slow- it had been for years now, but it was the slowest it had even been yet. He could sense it, could feel the sand running out of the hourglass, and the sand was almost gone.
They all knew it was coming. Hell, even Thomas himself had been expecting it, but that didn't make it any less sad. Patton lifted his head up, looking at Roman with already tearful eyes to take his hand tightly. "There can't be much time left- ten minutes perhaps," he whispered, audibly shaky and filled with fear. Now was not a time to hide his emotions.
Truthfully, it hadn't ever been, and Patton scorned his younger self. Not that he could help it now.
Roman squeezed back, trying and failing to hide his tears. He couldn't break now, he needed to be strong. He was a prince, brave even in the face of adversity, even facing the end of all he knew and loved. Even though he knew that the bravery was a lie.
"We should find the others then," he said, standing up to gently tug Patton along, heading to everyone's individual rooms. He could feel the familiar feeling of dread rise up in his stomach, curl around his lungs and slowly cut off his breathing. He knocked on Logan's door.
The second Logan came out, Patton wrapped him tightly in his arms, body shaking with silent sobs as a mixture of death and fear squeezed at his lungs. "It's happening," he whispered in his ear, urgency, sadness, and panic curdling together in his voice.
Logan, ever-eloquent as he was, was at a loss for words. "Oh," he whispered, voice falling apart already.
Everything was beginning to feel cold and grey, like the forgotten stone of a weathered grave, no loved ones left alive to lie flowers or mourn.
Roman could feel himself breaking, fear and regret and the overwhelming anticipation of losing his family crashing through him like a tidal wave. A door creaked open from across the hall and he turned to see Virgil, exhausted from his constant worrying, staring at them with a resigned and hopeless expression. "It's happening, isn't it?" He asked, voice already choked up and breaking.
Logan was the only able to nod in confirmation, as Roman looked away at the ground, not wanting to face the others, and Patton had his face buried in Logan's chest.
Virgil used his depleted energy to painstakingly summon the other two sides. There might still be unresolved arguments between them, and unforgiven fights, but the most unforgivable action of all would be to let them die alone.
"What's goi-" Remus started, stopping dead still as soon as he saw the forlorn and empty look in Virgil's eyes. "Oh," he mumbled, just like Logan. Virgil could feel the life seeping out of him- see him turning grey. Janus said nothing, only moving to grip Remus' hand as fear and early onset grief rose in his chest, grabbing his lungs with a desperation that knocked all of the air from his body.
"Let's head to the commons," Patton rasped. He didn't want to spend his dying moments in a dark hallway. Dark holes were where you were supposed to go after you died, not beforehand. You were supposed to die with those you loved.
Well now, they could all die together. The worst kind of party.
They all shuffled to the common room together, a miserable parade heading towards their own funeral. Janus looked around, at the people he had spent his whole life with, the people he considered family. He remembered birthdays and Christmases, movie nights and tight hugs. None of them even felt real now.
He felt his heart sink, his chest feeling like an empty chasm as he yearned for something unidentifiable. They had all known the end was coming, but being face to face with it was a whole different story.
They weren't brave, they weren't happy, and they weren't calm. Panic, sadness, and despair gripped every particle in the air, clinging to their skin as they waited for their death in the cold common room.
Janus noticed Virgil's hand balled up tight in his sleeve, his whole body shaking. He stepped closer to him, Remus following along and gently took Virgil's hand in his, prying open his tightly clenched fist. "Virgil..." He started, a hundred things he wanted to say clamouring for space in his head. Apologies, accusations, memories- there was so much left unsaid between them, and he had no time to fix it.
If only they'd been less stubborn.
Suddenly, Virgil flung his arms around Janus, clinging to him tightly like it was the last time he'd ever get to, only it wasn't a metaphor. "I love you," he sobbed, tears soaking through Janus' outfit and pouring from Virgil's eyes faster than rain in a storm. "I'm so sorry, thank you for everything, and I love you so, so much," he said, voice barely distinguishable beyond the wavering sobs.
He removed his face from Janus' chest to look at the others. "Join us?" he croaked, a fragile sound echoing in the silent grave of a room. At least this way they could all go out together, holding eachother until the bitter end.
Roman nearly fell into their arms, Janus curling an arm around him to keep him steady as Remus took one of his hands, trying to communicate so many things to his brother. He didn't know how to say any of it out loud, so he hoped Roman would understand. Logan nodded and pulled Patton into their little huddle, letting the others wrap their arms around the two of them.
It wasn't particularly comfortable, elbows and shoulders digging into each other at weird angles, everyone pressed just too close for comfort in the cold, dimly lit space. But Logan couldn't imagine a better feeling than all of them together, like this. He wished he had taken more time to enjoy it, to simply spend time with them instead of burying himself in his work.
Regrets seemed a little pointless now- he could feel it all slipping away. Every star in the sky, every fact Thomas had ever learned, the name of every friend. Every moment with the others he'd missed by being too cold and stubborn, fading away. Mistakes he could never amend.
Roman moved a little bit away from Janus to pull his brother into the tightest hug he could- no way was he getting away with merely holding his hand. "I love you. So much," he whispered. "I should've been a better brother, but-" Remus cut him off. "No. None of that. You were perfect."
Regrets, apologies, confessions, and farewells were exchanged in choked-up voices from tear-stained faces. They tied up all the ends they could think of, but of course they were nowhere near a perfect denouement.
Minutes elapsed, sand falling through the glass, fate pulling the time away with its cruel hands, and the reality of the end was imminent.
Thomas' eyes feel shut for the last time and the mindscape went dark, every light switching permanently off. There was barely two minutes left before their world crumbled to dust forever.
"This is it, isn't it?" Roman asked, fear stricken and far from resembling brave or noble. Patton nodded fearfully. "Goodbye, everyone," he choked, recieving a tighter hug from the group and tearful goodbyes in return.
The walls began to crumble, an avalanche that should have been raucous and loud, but everything fell silent.
No noise was made by gasping breaths or falling bricks, and everything began to null.
Their world falling apart around them, they held eachother together in the dark, right until there was nothing.
Right to the bitter end.

* Kacey Musgraves' romance with Dr. Gerald Onuoha is giving her butterflies -- the pair are so happy they found each other and while Kacey, who split from her husband Ruston Kelly last summer, is trying not to get too ahead of herself, her connection to the Nashville-based doc is off the charts and it's got the potential to go a very long way

Page 37: Bindi Irwin says life at home with her daughter Grace Warrior has been positively blissful and her family with dad Chandler Powell is so full of love, adding that the newborn has already met some of the wildlife at the Australia Zoo where Bindi and Chandler live and work and of course she's seen some crocs and really lit up when she saw them -- while the Aussie conservationist is sad Grace won't get to meet her late dad Steve Irwin, Bindi's brother Robert Irwin and mom Terri Irwin have been by her side constantly and Robert is obsessed with Grace and has been helping out so much and her mom has been the biggest guiding light and she's already taught Bindi so much about being a mother, both in how she raised her and by showing her things day by day and Terri is quite the baby whisperer and she's so great a calming Grace down when she's crying -- first-time father Chandler is also a natural with Grace and he's been the most supportive and involved dad and together, he and Bindi make such a great team -- for now, Bindi, who stars with Chandler in Crikey! It's a Baby!, is hoping Grace will follow in her animal-activist footsteps, saying having three generations of strong women working as conservationists is a dream come true
* Jennifer Garner said teaching your kids is a lifelong job, and certainly values are something you have to show them -- Jennifer, who shares kids Violet, Seraphina and Samuel with ex Ben Affleck, is staying true to her word and has led by example when it comes to things like kindness and patience and she won't let anyone in the house to judge or speak ill of people, and she enforces the same wholesome, traditional values that she was raised with and the kids have been taught to be loving, hardworking and fair -- Jennifer has always taken a kids-come-first approach to parenting, and it shows as they bake together, enjoy movie nights, read books and have very active lives and it's a very healthy, happy household filled with laughter and love
Page 38: Gwen Stefani has her hands full with her sons Kingston, Zuma and Apollo with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale, but she wouldn't want it any other way -- Gwen's a tomboy, so having three boys wasn't daunting for her at all, plus she has fiance Blake Shelton by her side to pitch in with parenting duties and Gwen and the boys have a blast at Blake's ranch in Oklahoma where they enjoy riding their ATVs, and they play baseball and football -- it's not all fun and games, though because Gwen is big on boundaries and manners and she doesn't want to raise Hollywood brats and it's important to her that her sons be gentlemen
* Meghan Markle's pregnancy with Archie was no walk in the park, as she revealed during her bombshell TV interview with husband Prince Harry, the couple had concerns over whether or not the royal family would provide security for their son and claimed there were conversations about his skin color -- but this time around, as Meghan and Harry gear up for baby No. 2 at home in L.A., she's doing everything her way, without the royals and Meghan and Harry feel blessed that they're able to raise their daughter in the U.S. and can live by their own rules and make the decisions they feel are best for their children; having independence is the most important thing for Meghan and she's got free rein to be exactly the kind of mom she wants to be -- her parenting style is really like most mothers out there, and she's been craving pasta and doing yoga two times a day as her due date nears and she keeps a lot of art supplies out to foster creativity and healthy snacks around and she's a devoted mom and wants the best for her kids

JAYDEN SUMMERS in PAGE 08: THE HUMOURIST.
GRAY, we both loved and adored jayden from the very beginning. as soon as we started reading about her childhood, her scrapped knees and wild hair, we were in love. she’s not just your typical class clown and we love that, you’ve given her a depth that we know will mesh really well with the rest of the squad!
WINONA BERKELEY in PAGE 09: THE DREAM.
BREN, from the moment we started reading about winona, we were hooked !! everything about her is so, pardon the pun, dreamy. i adored the way her story was woven and her being raised by women was such a wonderful touch. her moment on the page was so heartbreaking and i know from the way you wrote that section that she’ll fit in beautifully at harcourt. we can’t wait to see more of her!
MORRIS “MOE” DRISCOLL in PAGE 10: THE CAREGIVER.
KAYLA, wow! you had us from the moment moe learned he was going to be a big brother. the whole bit about him writing his mother’s farewell letters and receiving one on the day of her funeral? heartbreaking and sublime. moe is a beautiful character and we love how he truly embodies the caregiver. quoting you, he might not need the society but the members need him.
GAIA GUINIVERE LAWRENCE in PAGE 18: THE OBSERVER.
BEE, we’re not exaggerating when we say gaia is harcourt. not just because of the literal bits of her story, but because she embodies everything we feel harcourt is. this is her home and we’re just happy she’s sharing it with us. besides, she has a cult?! a badass bitch. gaia is such an amazing character, we’re just so glad you had time to write that app!
DEVIN DUMA-UG in PAGE 23: THE TRAGEDY.
THIA, i don’t speak lightly when i say devin had us absolutely stunned. you have created such an original and gorgeous character that there was no way we could let her slip away. believe us when we say making the choice for this skeleton was absolutely one of the hardest, but your honesty as a writer and devin’s story along with her potential to grow within the society won us over. we cannot wait to see where you take her!
JUDE ALIRA SUTTON in PAGE 24: THE EXPLORER.
EM, your app was so much fun to read! the format you used to tell jude’s story was so original and fresh and it fit perfectly with what we think of the explorer. also, jude is such a fun character! reading about her lovers, her relationship with her dad and her concept of home, it was just so fun to read. and we love how she feels about the society, it’s def inch-resting and we can’t wait to see how that plays out!
KUN WOLFGANG PARK in PAGE 33: THE REBEL.
LISSA, when i was writing up the skeleton i imagined someone exactly like wolfgang, who despite everything, pushes through. his rebellion is one stemming from something and it makes his fight all the more glorious. thank you for sharing him with us and i have to say the line “but stories have always been the only thing the rebel has ever had, and he will protect them with his life, if need be.” was the cherry on top of the delicious cake! he’ll fit right in at harcourt!
DANIELLE WILSON in PAGE 39: THE SEDUCER.
EMILY, there’s no doubt about it, danielle is our seducer skeleton through and through. she is aphrodite reincarnated, she is the girl who steals all the attention in the room and the breath from your lungs. we loved the format of your app with the rumors, it was incredibly original and fun to read. what you did with the moment on the page was also so clever and everything about danielle’s relationship with the society makes us just wants to see more of her in this setting! can’t wait to see what she’ll do next!
EWAN LARNER in PAGE 41: THE HOTSHOT.
LOGAN, ewan is chaos personified, a rich boy with destructive tendencies? more like our perfect hotshot! we loved the way you presented his bio through key words, and the moment on the page?! the fates?! you got to greek mythos hearts. we are sure ewan will bring lots of drama and chaos to the group and we can’t wait for it!
DANIEL ITO in PAGE 57: THE INGENUE.
ANNIE, the idea that the ingenue is not someone who has to be soft but rather can use that as protection or as a facade was a welcomed one and you portrayed it so beautifully through danny. he is soft despite how he feels about the word, not because he chooses to be but rather circumstances made him this way for survival and i adore that interpretation. we can’t wait to see how he grows within harcourt’s walls! also, the two leo admins understand danny’s need for attention and hate for lion tamers very well!
LYSANDER “LYE” BELLO VASSILIS in PAGE 74: THE KNIGHT.
ALEXA, lye is the prince charming of our dreams! we love that he is not what we would usually expect from the knight, but still, he fits so well into the role. a knight in shining armor to his sister. we’re in love with him! his whole ass natal chart in there was not our favorite bit, but we forgive you because we know lye will bring the drama and the sexy!
BEATRICE “BEA” ANDERSON-YAMADA in PAGE 75: THE LOVER.
ASH, you didn’t have to go so hard with your app, pheeww! it was such a ride. there were some amazing apps for the lover but we just couldn’t look away from bea. she was the one for us. the way she shines warmth and love reached us through the screen. bea is such a beautiful character, to us, she is a lover of life and the people around her, she is light and poetry and we can’t wait to see more of her!
JULIAN ROMERO in PAGE 88: THE UNDERDOG.
ELIZABETH, julian is such a sweet boy, i just want him to succeed in everything he does and i truly am rooting for him. his story was refreshing and the idea that despite him having a harder time than most, he can still do the things they can just in his own way was really wonderful. we are so excited to see him interact with the rest of the society members and be the resident historian! we hope he has the round-frame glasses to match the look!
DOROTHEA “THEA” MARQUIS in PAGE 93: THE WILDCARD.
ELLIE, we both agree that thea is our perfect wildcard! everything about her, from her backstory with her parents, to living with her brother, to her own fall from grace make her an incredibly fascinating character. you just never know what to expect with her, as is only right for the wildcard and we can’t wait to see how she fits into the society and interacts with everyone else!
PHOEBE-MAY LANGDON in PAGE 95: THE CORRUPTER.
S, you probably already suspect it but this was one of the skeletons we struggled the most with as all of the apps were beautiful and each character had such a wonderful take on the corrupter. but phoebe. PHOEBE! we love the way she is lowkey a psychopath and goes through life as if it’s the most normal thing in the world. we have a feeling that she is so completely out of touch with reality, on her own goddess fantasy, that we can’t wait to see how she mingles with the rest of the group! also... did she ever serve time for... you know?
EDISON “EDI” BLAIR in PAGE 103: THE INDIFFERENT.
JAX, edi’s story is so heartbreaking. the way you played with this idea of the controlling parents, doing exactly what they’d done in life in death as well. having the guilt controlling her now and that being the cause of her indifference, a shield of sorts was truly compelling. we’re incredibly excited to see how this will work within the group and what other sides of edi it will bring out!

For many families, the wake is an opportunity to offer their condolences and support to one another. This is also a time for the family to remember good times with the deceased. Recalling funny and appropriate stories can help to ease the pain during this difficult time.
However, it is important to keep in mind that this is a very emotional time and it may not be the right atmosphere for children to be present. It is recommended that children be left with a trusted family member or friend during this time.

Note
So you know how Lo hates throwing out Pat's gifts? So you know how Pat makes flower crowns? Whenever Logan gets a flower crown and it gets wilty, Pat and Lo have a sorta mini funeral type thing where they nicely lay it on the side of the road or in an open area and wish it farewell. They draw a little x in the middle and sometimes they come back to those roads and see that another Pokemon took it, a trainer moved it, or even it's still where it was
Awwwww yeah!!!

Burial Services Gold Coast
A graveside service is a beautiful way to honor a loved one and say your final farewells. It can be part of a funeral or memorial service, or it can take place on its own. It is typically held outside at the cemetery or by a mausoleum, and can be attended by family members and friends. The ceremony is usually very short and simple, and can be a beautiful way to pay tribute to a loved one.
The cost of a funeral can quickly become expensive, and it can be difficult to sift through the many options on offer to find the right one for your situation. Many funeral homes will offer various packages to help families get the most out of their experience, and you should always be open to discussing your preferences with a funeral director. The best way to beat rising funeral costs is to plan ahead, so you have an understanding of the average cost of funerals in Brisbane and Gold Coast before the need arises.
Burial Services Gold Coast
Integrity Funerals on the Gold Coast is a full-service funeral home, offering burial and cremation services in Gold Coast for all walks of life. Their dedicated funeral directors are committed to serving the community with compassion and professionalism, easing the burden on their clients during this difficult time. The team has over 25 years of experience in the industry, and their service is designed to celebrate life, provide comfort and honour your loved ones’ unique journey. The funeral directors also provide pre-planning services, ensuring that your wishes are respected when you are no longer around to do so yourself.
A traditional funeral service consists of a viewing or visitation, a service at the church or chapel, and either burial or cremation. A cremation service is similar but does not involve a service at the chapel or church. A memorial service is a celebration of a person’s life without the need to view the body, and can be held anywhere you choose.
Cremation is the most popular form of interment in the United States. A casket is still available for those who wish to hold a traditional funeral service, and there are many beautiful options for urns that can be used for a graveside service or memorial service. You should discuss your preferences with a funeral director before choosing a casket or urn.
The Alberton Natural Burial Cemetery offers a natural alternative to traditional burial practices. The preparation of the body is completed without the use of chemicals or preservatives, and the body is laid to rest in a biodegradable coffin or shroud. The earth is then returned to the ground naturally, and native plantings are planted around each grave site.
The cost of a Bare Cremation and an optional memorial service is much lower than the average funeral in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. This allows people to focus on their grief and also gives families the option of having a memorial service days, weeks or even months after the cremation rather than having to attend a funeral at such a vulnerable time.
Ruffles Funerals directors provide affordable burial and cremation funeral options in all areas of Brisbane, Ipswich, Moreton Bay, Logan, Redlands, Gold Coast and Tweed Heads. We are knowledgeable about the resources available in your community and respectful of all religious beliefs and customs.

Chapter 12
Story Page | Here. Master List | Here.
Piece by Piece.
I stand with Harry’s fingers tangled with mine, his sister standing on the other side of him.
We are all outfitted in black as the crisp atmosphere surges around us. For late November it is a little warmer than usual but still stiff enough to continuously send shivers down my back.
My heart shatters, not just for Harry but for the divided family that couldn’t even come together to pay their last respects to Logan. He may not have been the best of men out there, he has his fair share of concerns and ill-doing within the world, I am sure, but everyone deserves to be surrounded by family as they are lowered into the earth.
As I look between the four of us: Harry, his sister, the priest and myself. I take a deep breath as I realise that in life, you get what you give and sometimes that just isn’t reasonable enough. I recognize Logan gave more than to deserve a whole four people bidding him farewell for the last time. It disheartens me that this gentleman really did have nobody in his life besides for his work. I couldn’t envision having a life where it was just me. Imagining a life without having family around me or falling in love is a life I would never want to live. Logan didn’t even get to discover the love of his life… He hardly managed to reconnect with his broken family.
I wince at the sound of Harry sniffling through tears while he holds his sister to his side, taking his role of the big-little brother with pride. I allow our hands to part as he moves to embrace his sister. I can only assume regret is to blame for most of the tears that are being shed today. It wasn’t their fault though, their father formulated a mess that split the three siblings, they were all at dead-end roads.
What else would one do when finding out their father created a love child with a woman that wasn’t their own mother? Resentment is an unrelenting drug that sometimes carries over for too long and for the wrong reasons.
The priest says a few words and prayers before the lifeless silence permeates the crisp air around us, nothing but the howling of the wind and the last of the stagnant leaves rustle against the gravel sound. All while accompanied by ravens cackling while watching over us in an eerie manner.
Harry’s arm curls back around me and he draws me closer to him as the wind chill gets colder. I feel him hold me tighter and closer than usual while using the coldness as an excuse, but I know better. He’s holding onto me because I am his safety blanket at the moment— his safe haven you could say. Through thick and thin.
As his vows to me said— I will hold with him as well.
“I promise to cherish you through everything, to be your anchor when you need it, to be the shoulder you cry on, and the one to hold you up when you’re down. On days when you can only give twenty percent effort, I will give the other eighty.”
Today is one of those days where I hold the eighty percent while he musters up the twenty in return. It is days like this where my shoulder is his comfort to rest his head on and my presence is to hold him up while he is down.
*** ***
While my hand is clasped against Harry’s arm, I sense him tense beneath it. He grumbles something under his breath as I detect someone coming into view, leading towards us from the shadowy trees in the distance. He is dressed in black suit pants, a white button up, and a black coat and his hair is Achilles-gold and coiffed to perfection. Despite the tragedy, someone else showing up to pay their respect overflows my heart with a little bit of happiness. It’s pleasing to know that the three of us aren’t the only ones who Logan had contact with besides work colleagues.
The closer the unknown man gets, the more I feel Harry tense beneath my tender touch. “Harry,” the man approaches, offering his hand to Harry, but Harry rejects it, sharply.
The man drops his hand to his side and clears his throat, “Harry-“
“No.” Harry shakes his head, cutting the man off.
It is unusual for Harry to be rugged and edgy with others unless it has to do with business. I can sense a cutting edge between these two men, but I can’t figure out what it is.
Perhaps they’re business competitors that I have no idea about? Maybe they are old antagonists from when Harry was starting out?
“Gemma,” the man glances towards Harry’s sister.
I’m abruptly stumped when I notice Gemma somewhat sinking behind her brother. I’ve never once observed her apprehensive or to be the one to disappear behind her brother, usually, she’s the one having her way with words with people, not today. “Don’t talk to her, she doesn’t want anything to do with you.” Harry is swift to spit out powerfully. “Elise, go to the car with my sister.” Harry commands as he stares at his brothers grave, “I’m not going to ask again,” His voice is austere as I bestow a glimpse towards Harry’s sister and she gives me a nod, signalling to let him be and to go back to the vehicle.
“Elise-“ my wrist is mildly grasped.
I feel the blood hum through my veins and my nerves abruptly spasm at the unexpected touch of the unknown individual. Naturally, I don’t wish to be touched by anyone unless I am familiar with them, it leaves me on edge when I am caught off guard. Quite honestly, it shakes me to my core, especially since that one day I was rammed into a side alley and ambushed by two men.
“Don’t fucking touch her,” Harry’s voice induces me to jump within my skin, my heart occurring to beat fast while I draw my wrist away from the strange man.
Harry permeates the space between me and the man, his eyes darker than I have ever observed them before, “don’t think for a second that you are wanted here. You touch her again and I swear you will be buried next to him. Don’t fucking touch either of them.” Harry gestures between me and his sister.
The man clears his throat, “you seem to forget who you’re talking to.”
“You touch my wife again, it’ll be your funeral I attend next,” Harry speaks through his teeth, doing his best to keep himself composed. “Elle, go to the car with my sister, please.” Harry again indicates towards our car. I glance at Harry, exploring deep within his stare in an attempt to figure out what his next move will be. His brows furrow and I recognize his jaw clench– that’s when I know to just listen to him. “Go, he won’t touch you,” Harry informs me, giving me an unrelenting stare.
The walk is a long-drawn and silent one, our heels tapping the gravel as Gemma and I draw our coats tighter around our bodies.
While walking towards the car, I take notice of the headstones that I pass. Most of the headstones are cracked and withered with the voyage of seasons.
This cemetery has to be notably old, at least over 100 years old. Some of the inscriptions I have managed to take note of are dated back to the 1800’s. These monument stones of cold, decaying cement have presumably observed more people and tears of both melancholy and exuberance than one could probably picture.
It disheartens me that as I escort past all these graves towards the car, I am passing people who have once lived and wandered this very earth.
We reach the car and I encircle the button in my hand to unlock it as I turn to Gemma.
I notice his sister with a few streaks of mascara down her cheeks and it swiftly hits me. Although Harry had very limited time with their brother, she had absolutely none. She was the outsider with the relationship and knew very little about Logan. I’m quite surprised she even knew about him, to begin with. Harry didn’t tell me until that night Logan was snooping for records and I assumed he did everything in his power to keep the secret from his mother and sister in an attempt not to shatter their world. There’s nothing he wouldn’t do for the two of them, he may not visit them very often, but he’d move heaven and earth to keep them felicitous, safe and pain-free.
“Who is he?” I softly challenge, flicking my head towards the man that we encountered.
She shakes her head and wipes a tear away, “nobody important.”
“Do I need to be concerned?”
“I’m not sure… Harry knows his limits with him.” She responds while she opens the car door.
Harry’s sister gets in the back seat of Harry’s car. I can’t help but observe the two men, incompetent to catch anything but several muffled cuss words. I keep my eye on Harry and this man, disregarding the freezing air and the eerie character of the graveyard. I perceive Harry’s hands rise, my breath hitches as his palms hit the other mans chest.
Oh, fuck. No.
“Get the fuck away,” Harry’s speech resounds powerfully, sufficient to not just frighten me but the perching birds in the aged oak trees enveloping us.The trees look skeleton-bare and eerie at times, no matter what way I look at them.  To my surprise, the two men don’t end up in a scuffle, thankfully. Instead, the man strolls away from Harry and exercises towards the car I assume he came in.
I take a breath and watch Harry standing at the corner of Logan’s grave, staring at the beautiful flowers Harry precisely and painstakingly selected out.
I wander towards Harry, he’s squatting now, gazing at the soil. My heart shatters the second I overhear him sniffle as I get closer. It’s on rare occasions I have seen this man weep, very rare occasions. He is a strong man to break down and crack, to observe him with tears of sorrow, it pierces my heart.
The deafening silence is intruded abruptly and without signal by the ghastly screech of a blackened crow. Again, it cries, and again. I tremble as a tingle operates through my body, the character of the crow sounding like nails on a chalkboard.
I benevolently clasp my hand to his back, startling him by accident, “it’s just me.” I immediately assure him as his crystal enchanting, clay-grey eyes glance up at me.
My heart cracks further and if there was anything I could do to fix his despair and grief, I swear I’d do it. I’d do anything to take away the sorrow laced between his eyes and crystal tears, I’d do anything so he never has to feel this ache, this loss, and this grief. He wipes away the few tears and I thoroughly bend down to his level, wrapping my arm around him.
Nothing I say will bring Logan back or change things and I think what Harry is struggling with is not being able to have control. He constantly has control of things but this-this he has no control over.
Harry clears his throat before standing to his feet, advancing his hand to help me back to my feet.
When we stand back up, I open my arms, immediately pulling him in closer to me. I hold him close despite our height differences. He weeps into me as he wraps his arms around me and all I can do to console him is to keep my arms enveloped around him while my hand benevolently strokes the back of his head.
*** ***
We step back to the car and he takes a breath, taking one last glance at where his brother lays, “Let me drive,” I hold my hand out for the keys. I expect him to shake his head and refuse, but to my surprise, he hands me the keys without an issue. He accompanies me to the driver’s side and opens the door for me like a gentleman before I get in.
The drive through town and back to Harry’s childhood home was withdrawn, neither Harry nor his sister spoke a word.
The moment we get back to Harry’s childhood home, Harry disrobes into more comfortable clothes and disappears into the back terrace. His mother and sister both glance at me and I give them a delicate smile while clutching four mugs to make us all a cup of tea, something that is much required. “He just needs to collect himself.” I breathe, wishing I had a better explanation for his unexpected disappearance.
“I didn’t realise Harry was so close to this old friend,” his Mum glances out the back doors, more than likely searching for her son that I presume has gotten lost in that back garden quite a lot while growing up. I am almost positive he and his sister travelled around the garden various times while discovering several hiding spots. “Can’t see him… did he take his journal?” She challenges while looking towards me and Gemma.
I blink at his mother for a moment, scrambling my thoughts to think of whether or not he marched out with anything in his hand. Then I remember, I’ve never noticed him with a journal. Call me a shocking wife, but never once have I observed a journal of any sort in his hands. I know he’s a man of mystery and doesn’t show me everything at first, but I thought I had him figured out. I guess not.
“I didn’t know he had a journal,” I softly comment, feeling incredibly ignorant for not knowing the things my husband has and doesn’t have. “I’m not a bad wife, I promise,” I immediately attempt to justify myself, “he just doesn’t show me everything… he didn’t sing for me until just a few months ago.”
“Elise, it’s okay,” his mother promptly assures me, “there’s a side to him he always closes off… I don’t think he remembers that I even know about the journal.”
I step outside into the frigid air, glancing around and stepping to the right like Harry’s Mum informed me, I follow her instructions and of course, I discover him resting under the tree with his journal in his lap. “Thought you might like something warm,” I propose him my warmest smile while holding the cup of tea towards him. The tree has feathery combs of moss and branches that look like reaching arms.
He glances up, “not really feeling it.”
“It’s just how you like it,” I grin, knowing him well enough to know that he is unquestionably desiring this tea, he’s just too much of an emotional wreck to realize it. “Extra honey and made with love.” I gesture to it and he graciously takes it from my hand.
“Will you sit with me?” Harry’s voice is muffled yet shrieks with a need for affection and love.
I relax myself down beside him, the glucose smell of amber leaks from the tree bark while I grow withdrawn, not wanting to cross any lines that may cause him to become unsettled or hostile. I don’t want to challenge him about the journal and I don’t want to stare down at whatever he may have scribbled in it; I don’t want to invade his privacy. I lean my head on his shoulder and close my eyes, allowing his quietness and the reassurance that he may need. He comprehends just as well as I do that neither of us requires saying anything to reveal that we are there for each other. We both know that if he desires to talk, he’ll do it on his own terms, until then, I will rest by him for as long as he requires and I will keep him company even if it’s during silence and a bitter windchill.
*** ***
It has been several days since the burial. Harry hasn’t been himself since. He has been sleeping a lot more than he ordinarily would and no matter what I do, I can’t manage to get him to smile at anything. Nothing appears to work. It breaks my heart to recognize him like this so dispirited and out of touch with the world. He won’t acknowledge emails regarding the company, he won’t answer Niall’s text messages; I can’t get Harry to communicate with me for more than a few minutes, I just can’t seem to grasp his attention for very long. His enrapturing, loam-grey eyes lose interest and he appears to zone out of whatever discussion I propose to endure with him.
I glance up from my position in his mother’s lounge with my novel, observing Gemma as she saunters into the modest living room. “Hey, my brother still in his room?” she questions and I nod my head, “does he plan to come out? What’s he even doing?”
“He is watching TV and scribbling in his journal… Don’t think he feels like getting up. I’m about to go check up on him,” I smile, laying my book down on the coffee table and standing to my feet, “hopefully he is in a better mood this evening.” I respond over my shoulder as I walk towards the corridor, making my way down to Harry’s childhood room.
I enter and give him a smile as he is resting on his stomach, one arm tucked under his pillow, his cheek caressed to his pillow while he gazes at me with a stray curl falling over his forehead. “Hey, darling,” I greet as I wander in, my heart ceasing for a moment as I witness his lips curl up into a petite smile.
“Hey, sweetheart,” he greets me, “was jus’ thinkin’ ‘bout you,” his voice is muffled and faint while I make my way closer to his bed.
I raise a brow and hum as I relax down on the edge of his bed. I caress my palm to his back and massage it softly and soothingly, “That so?”
“Mhm, always think of ye’,” he replies.
“Do you plan on getting out of bed anytime soon?” I softly challenge, shifting my hand to run through his hair, “Because I think you need to eat, it’s seven… Your mum made a lovely dinner.”
“Did you save me some leftovers?”
“Of course I did,” I acquaint him, “come on, darling. Up you get,” I encourage, withdrawing my fingers from flowing through his hair and standing back to my feet.
Harry murmurs to himself for a moment and gently reaches for my hand, “tha’ felt good though,” he pouts his lips and I give him a small smile, “do I really have to get up and put pants on? Can you be a darl and bring it to me?”
I shake my head, “sorry, darling… Never thought I would say this, but put your pants on.”
Harry groans, “I suppose,” he responds and I step out of his bedroom, leaving him to put on his pants and force himself out of the bed he has lost himself in.
I make my way into the living room where I find Harry’s sister staring out the window intently, “is it finally snowing?” I question, assuming she’s watching the snow delicately fall outside in the first snowfall of the winter. I have to admit, I have always found it more enchanting to watch snow fall while out in the country. There’s something different about the way snow falls and blankets the ground in the country compared to the city. She shakes her head, “can you get my brother?” “He said he’ll be out in a minute… what’s the matter?” I challenge while I walk closer to her, a little apprehensive about the way she’s acting. I’ve seen her in many situations and none of them have I ever seen her with shaky hands and a fragile voice that sounds as though it’s about to crack any minute. When she doesn’t respond I bite my lip before I call for Harry, his name echoing through the house multiple times before he emerges into the living room while pulling his head through his sweater, “What? What’s going on?” He promptly asks while staring at his sister and I. “Sounded like a bloody emergency,” he mutters while stepping around the furniture and making his way towards us. “He’s here.” Gemma’s voice is soft and fragile as she speaks, her eyes looking over towards her brother in a glossy manner. “Who?” Harry questions as he takes his place beside me, towering over his sister and me. I feel my breath hitch in my throat and my nerves pulsate when I overhear the sound of the doorbell chirping through the house as silence breathes between the three of us. Harry’s sister looks up at Harry while her lip trembles, “Dad.” The doorbell sounds again this time sounding more disturbing. “Where’s Mum?” Harry asks as he looks around to obviously find his mother missing. “She went out with a friend… Harry–“ “It’ll be fine, Jus’ stay in the kitchen.” Harry instructs as he gives his sister a quick hug, “I mean it, stay in there.” He gestures towards the kitchen, shuffling the two of us in there before he walks towards the front door.
As usual, I don’t listen to Harry’s orders, not to purposely be obstinate or to piss Harry off, but to make sure that Harry is handling things okay. There will always be apart of me that worries about him in certain situations, primarily ones that revolve around sensitive circumstances such as his father.
He never speaks much of him, just that he was worthless and was never around for him and his sister. His father has scarred him in ways that not even I can begin to fix or even understand, but the man I’m in love with is better off without the man who assisted to create him. Harry has told me enough about the father for me to know that Harry doesn’t need to be left alone with him for too long.
I shuffle towards the front door and overhear a howl that transfers shivers down my back, a voice that echoes all too familiarly. As I get closer, the aroma of whiskey pervades my senses and I feel my body have the impromptu urge to go weak. The voice and scent feel as though they’re etched into my body and soul in a vindictive form that I’d rather disremember.
“Elise… No-Noelle… Cartier!” Harry’s father slurs as he sees me from behind Harry, blowing my cover of attempting to stay quiet and in the distance. I wander closer as Harry turns around, his enrapturing, loam-grey eyes are dark as they stare me down. I observe them burn into my soul and rip me to shreds— he’s pissed— and more than likely it’s because of me not listening. “Such a pretty face,” Harry’s father coughs, “stubborn… jus’ - jus’ - like you.”
Harry turns back to face his father, moving insignificantly to keep me behind him. “You need to leave.” His voice is comparatively calm and I can only assume inside he’s a furious compound ready to explode with fury.
“The fuck I do. My house.”
Harry shakes his head, “No, it’s not. You need to leave.”
“You need to fuck off, mate. Always putting your nose where it ain’t needed.” …
“Go home and drink more Whiskey. ‘Bout the only damn thing you’re good at.” Harry grumbles.
His father makes eye contact with me and I feel myself shrink within my own skin, the man enduring to break down every barrier imaginable with me. His voice, his eyes, and his whiskey scented trail destroy me. Now I know how Harry exhibits when he just speaks of his nerve breaking father. The man is intimidating, the appearance in his voyager-blue eyes resembles nothing less than a shadowy evil that wants to ravage your body and soul.
“Let me say hi to ye’ wife and that sister of yours.”
“Go home.”
“I said, let me say hi.” The father endeavours to shoulder his way past Harry, but Harry doesn’t allow it.
“I said, no!” Harry’s voice raises and he shoves his father back out, causing him to flounder backwards.
“Careful, boy. Ye’ know you’re not as strong as ye’ used to be.” … “ye’ fucking with the wrong person.”
“Go to hell.” Harry spits, slamming the door shut, prompting the frames on the walls’ to shiver before locking the door. Harry swings around, his eyes stare down at me and I feel myself desiring to curl up in a corner. “I fucking told you to stay in the damn kitchen. But you never fucking listen.”
“Harry–“
“No, don’t ‘Harry’ me. It’s like I talk to a brick wall. Goddamnit, Elise! Don’t want you anywhere near that son of a bitch and you just don’t listen.”
I become withdrawn, well aware that he may be enraged but he has a satisfactory reason for it. He doesn’t know how to channel all the emotions he is handling at the moment. He lost his brother and has earned his inebriated father, one he desperately strives to disremember. I can only assume his mind is a furious mayhem waiting to explode and lose control.
“The more I attempt to protect you the more you fuck it up. Is it that difficult to listen? Do you not understand when I speak?” He continues to have an elevated voice while we stand in the midst of the corridor, his back facing the door. “Christ, Elise. Ye’ might as well put an X on my chest and kill me now because if anything happens to you I’ll never forgive myself. So stay the fuck where I tell you to.” He grouses with austere eyes and trembling hands, one of them folded up into a fist. “For fuck’s sake… don’t fucking cry. Damnit.” Harry huffs out of frustration, “come here,” he opens his arm but I don’t step into his embrace, “come here… I’m jus’… he fucking destroys my nerves.” Harry steps closer to me and draws me into him briefly, just long enough to comfort me and stop me from crying before he stretches away. He doesn’t say a word, he just marches away from me.
I compose myself and settle myself back down on the sofa, Harry’s sister perching in front of the fireplace with a glass of wine to calm her down from tonight’s events.
I attempt to get back to the story of my book, but I can’t withdraw my mind from pondering over tonight’s proceedings and previous events of the last few weeks. For every genuine thing that has endured to happen, a downfall has occurred, quite literally. I find it unusual that Harry’s Dad is abruptly making appearances now, it has been almost seven years and I haven’t seen him until now. It is as though he has been in hibernation this whole relationship I have had with Harry and now he aspires to pop up and stir trouble.
If anything, I expected his father to show up once Harry managed to become successful right out of University, but no. I had thought he would at least attempt to show up at the wedding or congratulate his son but I didn’t even see that. I hardly know this man, but Harry is undividedly accurate when he states his father is insignificant. I can’t begin to imagine the heartache that Harry must undergo to go through the torment their father puts him and his sister through.
Part of me wants to know the complete story but at the same time, I don’t think I ever want to hear the profound misery Harry has gone through with his father.
“Do you have to go back to London? Can I just steal you from my brother for a bit?” Gemma questions as she pours herself another glass of wine while the family cat jumps up on the sofa and nestles into my legs.
I chuckle and shrug while I rest my hand to spread through the fluffy fur of the kitten, “I have to go back.”
“When are you coming back? Harry keeps you all to himself.” She pouts and I again giggle, he does keep me to himself but he doesn’t honestly mean to. It’s just how life works out.
“Uh, not sure,” I shrug, “maybe in a few weeks when it is Christmas?” I respond, thinking about how Christmas is just a few weeks away from us.
“Guess I will have to make that drive to see you guys then.”
My eyes flicker over to Harry as he walks in, he rubs the back of his neck and looks at his sister and me.
He clears his throat, “Elle, I need you for a minute.”
I think about turning him down and leaving him to cool off longer but the tone of his voice and the look in his eyes tell me to tend to him. I get up and follow him down the hallway to his childhood bedroom.
He closes the door behind us and I take my position on his bed, “I’m sorry,” he begins as he leans against the old dresser drawers.
I cock my head to the side, “for what?”
“Raising my voice at you.”
“Are you sorry or are you just saying it? I know you just say sorry because you feel compelled to at times.”
He shakes his head, “I’m actually sorry… I shouldn’t have spoken to you like that… forgot you were my wife and not my work mate,” he declares, surprising me by acknowledging that he sometimes speaks to me in the same CEO temper that he uses on his workers. “I jus’ get frustrated… I am sorry…  Once I cooled down, I realised how you were kinda shaking and jumpy with me. I never intended to scare you, Elle.”
“You didn’t,” I inform him. Truth is, him elevating his voice with me wasn’t what caused me to want to cry, it was just a small part of it.
“Oh…” he trails off, raising a brow at me.
“I need to tell you something and I’m not quite sure how you will react.” I lament, deciding now is as good a time as ever to come clean about what has been operating through my mind since he unlocked the door to see his father.
Harry nods, signalling for me to go on. “Your father was a the hospital,”
“After my accident? Surprised the fucker visited me.”
I shake my head, “no… when I was there. He visited when you and your brother were out somewhere.”
“So he visited you while I wasn’t around?… You’re just now fucking telling me this?” His voice suddenly raises towards me and he crosses his arms over his chest, “do you not think that is shit I should know. For fuck’s sake, Elise.”
“Are you done raising your voice at me?” I heavily sigh as his eyes stare at me. He quite honestly views like he wants to kill me.
I would try to lighten the mood by calling him grumpy, but that will only infuriate him even further. “You just apologized for raising your voice and here you are, doing the same thing,” I murmur, gesturing between the two of us
“Because you don’t fucking tell me things, you keep secrets.”
“Look who is calling the kettle black, Mr. I keep secrets for years.” I immediately hiss referencing the family mysteries he has kept that I don’t know about and the ones that I do know about.
“That is fucking different and you know it. Why the fuck did you not tell me he visited you?”
“Well… I didn’t realise it was him until tonight… Stop being an ass to me. You might be grieving but you don’t get a free pass to be a dickhead.”
Harry rolls his eyes, “don’t roll your eyes at me, Styles.” I directly call him out and he takes a heavy breath and runs his fingers through his hair.
“Elise Noelle, you are so fucking infuriating but I love you,” he extends me a smile as he steps closer to the bed. He crawls onto the bed and pushes a few strands of hair behind my ear. “I love you too, Harry,” Harry endeavours to mimic me before leaning in and kissing me softly, “I love you,” he mumbles against my smooth lips.
“I love you too.” I benevolently extract away and cup his face between my two hands, “but you need to stop getting so angry at me,” I whisper as I look into the same eyes that I fall in love with more and more each day.
He nods, “I am sorry, gotta work on it. He jus’, he’s not someone I want near you.” Harry murmurs as I run my thumb smoothly over his stubble.
“Mhm,” I nod, leaning down and kissing him benevolently before I draw away, “what did he do?”
“A lot of things,” he responds, leaning in and kissing me sweetly, his hands moving to rest on my sides while I allow us to share a few kisses.
I extract away and he pouts his lips, “Harry, what did he do?”
He groans at me disconnecting the kiss, the only form of communication we have really managed to have in the last few days of disaster. “I’d rather kiss than talk about him.”
“Harry,” I sigh as he kisses my cheek and I gingerly extend away from him.
Harry sighs and glances away for a moment, “Elle… he’s just a horrible man… Not a man anyone should be around.”
“What did he do?”
He raises his shoulders into a shrug, “a lot of things, love…”
“I love you, but I don’t think it is okay for you to still be so closed off, especially with me.” I benevolently press for him to open up even if it is just a little bit. I don’t think it is good for him to be holding back all these emotions at the moment.
Harry takes a breath and looks down at his left hand before his beautiful eyes flutter back up to me, “you know the scar on my hand?” he questions and I nod while I take his hand to flip his palm over so I can see his scar. I run my thumb over the scar, something I have done many times during our relationship. “How did I tell you I got it?”
“Hmm, you said it was a bar fight that happened right before you and I met.”
Harry shakes his head, “that’s a lie,” he informs me, catching me off guard… I never really expected Harry to have lies and secrets with me. “Before you get mad for lying, I have a good reason… My father is the reason for it.”
“The fuck did he do?”
“Long story short, love. One night, he got drunk and about tried to kill me. So, there’s that reason why I can’t have him near anyone in my family, shall I continue on why I can’t have him near you or do you get the picture?” Harry questions as I continue to run my thumb over his scar.
“He tried to-” I struggle to finish my sentence, appalled on how his own father could attempt such a thing.
Harry shrugs, “he was drunk and didn’t succeed. Maybe one day I will tell you the full story of my father, but right now, I can’t, Elle… Jus’ can’t.” … “I’m sorry for getting so mad but I jus’ don’t need you anywhere near him… I am ending this conversation and heading to bed.”
I nod and decide not to ask any more questions, essentially because I know he will eventually tell me when he feels he is ready.
Now I know why Harry was always apprehensive about children and why I occasionally catch him talking to Niall about whether he will make a good father or not.
Pieces are gradually coming together.
Piece by piece.
Authors Note:  Hello, here is the latest Chapter of the fanfic. It is a bit long, I am sorry. But, I hope you all enjoyed it.

For the week of 23 April 2018
Quick Bits:
Abbott #4 gives us the penultimate issue to the series, dropping all the pieces together to put Abbott on the path to discovery what is going on with all the death and paranormal stuff. The layouts from Sami Kavelä just elevates the storytelling to the next level.

Aliens: Dust to Dust #1 is a fairly visceral beginning to this new min-series written and illustrated by Gabriel Hardman (with colours from Rain Beredo). It starts in terror as Maxon begins seeing violence outside his window and finds a facehugger attached to his mother, and just explodes from there with the colony world of LV-871 overrun by xenomorphs.

Avengers #690 brings both “No Surrender” and this volume of Avengers to an end, serving as a coda to the series, tying up some loose ends, saying some goodbyes--especially as many of the X-Men characters seem to be going back home--and setting up some of the things to come. This has been a great story, with some wonderful art along the way, that well-encapsulated this era of the Avengers while presenting a fairly widescreen epic.

Big Trouble in Little China: Old Man Jack #8 is the big confrontation with Ching Dai and it’s...not what you’d expect. Great art as usual from Jorge Corona.

Bloodborne #3 is filled will existential dread. Particularly with the idea of that unknown, unseen terror hanging above your head, waiting to pounce. And of monsters being everywhere.

Cyber Force #2 continues the slow burn rebuilding and reintroduction of the team and their antagonists, with this issue mainly focusing on Velocity discovering the extent of her powers and revealing the updated version of Killjoy. Like the first issue, much of the story is similar, but the details get fleshed out a bit more and the look of the characters tends to be a bit different. It does highlight the differences in comics storytelling between today and twenty-five years ago. What used to be told in a handful of panels or a throwaway line now takes half an issue.

Deep Roots #1 is another stellar debut from Vault, with absolutely gorgeous artwork from Val Rodrigues and Triona Farrell. The story...is a bit Swamp Thing-y, but not. It’s strange. Dan Watters excels at strange.

Doctor Strange #389 continues this necessary chunk of the “Damnation” event, revealing how Strange exited the depths of hell in order to get back to Las Vegas. Its structure is a bit odd, given that it’s actually told as a flashback, breaking with how the arc has been presented up until now, and it skips over what actually happens in Damnation #4, but it’s still entertaining. Donny Cates adds quite a few bits of reactive humour and the art from Niko Henrichon continues to be astounding.

Doctor Strange: Damnation #4 concludes the event. I’ve enjoyed it overall, with some great moments spread across the constituent parts, but the main series itself has been told in a fairly oblique manner, leaving important details up to the tie-ins of Doctor Strange and Johnny Blaze. I don’t mind, personally, but if you’re only reading Damnation, it would feel a bit choppy. I am hoping that the tease of more Midnight Sons bears fruit. Some great art again from both Rod Reis and Szymon Kudranski.

Dungeons & Dragons: Evil at Baldur’s Gate #1 returns the adventuring party home and has them scatter almost immediately, leaving Minsc and Boo to find their own misadventure about the city. Being Minsc and Boo-centric, Jim Zub opts for a story that’s a little sillier than usual, but it’s very welcome.

Exiles #2 is a rather fun comic, finishing up the gathering of the team, as they hop from realities under threat from the desiccated corpse version of Galactus that is the Time Eater. The differing realities that Saladin Ahmed is playing with here transcends earlier versions with the inclusion of Wolvie, allowing for a radically different interpretation and style of comics not often included in these kinds of reality hopping stories. It gives a nice bit of comic relief and allows Javier Rodríguez to further flex his artistic muscle. Between stylistic changes, layouts, and panel transitions, this is a damn good looking comic. Rodríguez, Álvaro López, and Chris O’Halloran are making the art as adventurous as the story.

Gasolina #7 returns with Amalia and Randy hiding out and playing house with Amalia’s nephew, who is still somehow alive with one of those alien bug things in him. It’s still kind of weird how Sean Mackiewicz is presenting this mix of oddities with a more standard crime narrative, where the aliens/whatever-they-are are just about the least important thing. It’s a nice approach, drawing out the more “normal” aspects comparatively.

Grass Kings #14 drops one hell of a bombshell in this penultimate issue. Matt Kindt, Tyler & Hilary Jenkins are ensuring that this series goes out on a high note.

Hunt for Wolverine #1 is a pretty good start to this event, even if ultimately the premise of Wolverine missing--when he’s been hopping around the Marvel Universe just missing anyone--is a little ridiculous. I mean, if he still has an Infinity Stone, despite the recent flowchart in Infinity Countdown #2, it makes a bit of sense, but otherwise... Anyway, Charles Soule, David Marquez, and Rachelle Rosenberg put together a great lead story, setting up the mystery of Logan’s missing body, and it remains to be seen how and why he actually came back. The second story, from Soule, Paulo Siquiera, Walden Wong, and Ruth Redmond then essentially sets up the spin-off series with the different teams looking for Wolverine.

Ice Cream Man #4 serves up another cone of seriously strange horror. Like if you made beer-flavoured ice cream and topped it with bits of chocolate-covered grasshopper. This one features an outing between an estranged friend and the friend’s deadbeat dad after his funeral and it just gets more bizarre from there.

Jeepers Creepers #1 is not something I ever expected to see. Although the first two movies were relatively successful, at the very least as cult horror flicks, I would have thought the surprisingly released third film and Victor Salva’s reputation killed the chance of this as a viable property that anyone would want to associate with. But here we are. In any event, Marc Andreyko pens an interesting story. Aside from the nods to the films like the Creeper’s truck, we mainly follow a grad student as he searches for connections between the Creeper and Aztec mythology. Not a bad premise, even if it feels like it’s coming from left field. The art from Kewber Baal, with colours by Jorge Sutil, is also pretty nice.

Kill or Be Killed #18 takes a bit of a sidestep as we head toward the series’ conclusion. I love when Ed Brubaker starts laying out the steps in a crime, or in a case as it were, and this issue follows the task force assigned to solving Dylan’s murders, especially in the wake of the death of the copycat they closed the case with. It’s interesting how the clues are presented and followed and as usual Sean Phillips and Elizabeth Breitweiser make it look gorgeous.

KINO #5 begins the second arc, changing tone a bit as the series takes a darker turn with ChrisCross taking over the art duties here. Gone are the throwback styles of old comics and now we’ve got some stranger things as Alistair Meath has realized that he’s in some sort of simulation or...something. It’s an interesting shift, even with the introduction of Meath’s family in the real world, as the series seems to take on a more realistic, and slightly darker, tone, even though the real world sequences aren’t much different from what Joe Casey wrote in the previous issues.

The Mighty Thor #706 is a beautiful farewell to the Lady Thor, with some drop dead gorgeous artwork from Russell Dauterman and Matthew Wilson. This is a wonderful capstone to Jason Aaron and Dauterman’s run with Jane Foster and it will be interesting to see where Aaron goes next with the continuing war of the realms and the return of Thor Thor.

Moon Knight #194 features some really nice guest art from Ty Templeton as Max Bemis pens a tale about a particularly dark period of Marc’s childhood. It’s a good single issue story dealing with some very heavy subject matter.

Pathfinder: Spiral of Bones #2 features some really nice art from Tom Garcia and Morgan Hickman, as the story shifts to Valeros’ predicament of being dead and being mistaken for a particularly nasty individual. I enjoy how Crystal Frasier is expanding upon the Pathfinder concepts for the afterlife and Valeros’ situation is fairly funny, even if dire.

Sacred Creatures #6 was worth the wait. I know this series doesn’t get a lot of press, and often slips its schedule, but what Pablo Raimondi and Klaus Janson are crafting here is some pretty heady stuff, with reinterpretations of biblical epics and an entirely different take on the Nephilim and the Seven Deadly Sins (of which we learn there was an eighth this issue, Vanity, although vanity is usually just an example of pride). It’s good, it’s dense, and it’s beautifully illustrated.

Strangers in Paradise XXV #3 keeps Katchoo on the path to find Stephanie Kelly. I love Terry Moore’s humour and this issue has it in spades.

Thanos Annual #1 is a collection of mostly dark humour stories of Thanos as told by a motley crew of creators, including the recently departed Thanos creative team of Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw, and a number of other luminaries like Al Ewing, Chris Hastings, Frazer Irving, Katie Cook, Kieron Gillen, and more. It’s a fun set of stories, also serving as a bit of bridge to the forthcoming Cosmic Ghost Rider mini-series.

Witchblade #5 goes deeper in the darkness that has rooted itself deep within New York City’s underworld as Alex investigates a dirty cop, unveiling a web of corruption. We also get a really nice reveal at the end of the issue.

X-Men Blue #26 unleashes more of Miss Sinister’s Mothervine plan across the world with secondary and tertiary mutations occurring, along with old depowered X-Men regaining powers. This feels bigger than something that’s just confined to one X-book, which is a testament to the level of storytelling Cullen Bunn is bringing here. While there are timeline quibbles, especially with Venomized going on currently that has already brought the original five back to Earth, it is entertaining to see Polaris’ new team in action.

X-O Manowar #14 is one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking things you can read this week. Matt Kindt, Ariel Olivetti, and Dave Sharpe return Aric to Earth, but not to home.
