In my opinion...jjk should have some filler episodes. Just like aot chibi highschool episodes and demon slayer highschool filler episodes.

Like this panel made me so happy and we get a glimpse of fun, happy and funny sides of the characters. And I would love love to see more interactions of the kyoto and Tokyo students as well as the old students who are now teachers. Also, I would love to see nanami's daily life as an overworked employee and more interactions with the bakery girl🥺 A normal slice of life jjk would literally make me go a little easy on gege tbh. I mean it is a must!! Pls give us a happy slice of life filler episodes!!! To cope with what we went through until now.😭🥲 (Ik it's kinda late thou🥲but we can try?😩🤷🏻‍♀️)

Thoughts While Watching Gilmore Girls, 2/18 “Back In The Saddle” (more glorious filler) Part 1

The episode begins with an uninteresting Friday Night Dinner intro that has nothing worth writing about, except we see Richard again, and I feel like I haven't seen Richard in a really long time. (This is a Richard-centric episode, which is fine with me).

I recommend you all look up a woman named Valerie Campbell on TikTok or Instagram. She worked on the show and shares a lot of behind the scenes stories. I can’t seem to find this specific post again, but if you care to dig around yourself, she had a little story about the crew member that actually designed this sign.

I don't remember it being a particularly fascinating story, but if you want to hear the story of Sign Guy, go on and find Valerie.

I love how blasé they are about their notions that either Luke or Jess could have such gorgeous handwriting. Neither of them are marveling even one bit over that skilled graphic design. Sad lack of shock, wonder, and awe.

Poor put-upon Brad. One day, Brad will rule the world, and the peasants will be sorry. Our usual Chilton crew that consists of Rory, Paris, Madelyn, Louise, Brad, and one rando (some 30 Year Old Archie looking dude) are gearing up for a Business Fair. They have to invent a product appealing to high schoolers. Rory is the CEO, and they have an imaginary 1 million dollars to imaginary market/produce/and distribute it. They also have to find a responsible adult to be their "business advisor". Richard will eventually join them and muck things up. Everyone else's negligent dads are too busy working and Rory's deadbeat dad Crusty is off somewhere trying to impregnate some chick named Sherry and wouldn't know how to Business if his life depended on it, so Richard it is. But this is the 2000s, so surely someone's mother could also have business experience?

Paris and Madelyn suggest Rory's mom, seeing as she "Runs a hotel", but the girls wouldn't know that Rory's mom regularly leaves her shift in the middle of the day to do things like look at coffins. Not a good role model. Joyous filler nonsense.

Rory: LOL yeah I guess. Let’s have someone look at Lorelai’s “books”. The Independence Inn and Stars Hollow are both an accountant's wet dream.

I neglected to include Brad in my poll of Gilmore Girls characters whose quietly bubbling anger will one day no longer stay contained until they snap and murder somebody.

She's definitely not, but Paris threatens her so Rory promises to ask her anyway.

The people of Stars Hollow are incredibly angry and violent. Don't let their sweet faces fool you. Try to take away their coffee or twinkle lights, or fuck up their wedding invitations, and you'll be sorry.

As a little catch up in my oc universe after New War Astrophel is left extremely depressed and fatigued, switching sides to have Orokin Royal Privilege wasn’t so fun was it Astro? He’s going through a lot I shouldn’t say that. Astrophel is so depressed and fatigued still, they do not go with Namid to investigate the Zariman/don’t know if Namid has told Astrophel about it yet. By WitW Astrophel is feeling good enough to go on missions again and reluctantly helped out our favourite Loid, Astro hates Deimos but as long as he’s not outside on the fleshy planet they feel less icked out.

Now to Jade Shadows.

Namid and Astrophel find themselves finally having a slow day and Namid is trying to broach some hard conversations about some realizations they have come to, realizations they had back in New War while Astrophel was under Ballas’ control… those realizations being Feelings. Wow, T4T real?

Namid is stuttering and fumbling trying to get the words to form correctly, flustered and fiddling with their hair braid as they struggle to string a sentence together. Just as Namid’s lips start to remember how to speak— The Stalker shows up, and he’s got problems.

Namid’s eye is TWITCHING and they are mildly going insane that they have to put this conversation off for the 500th time since they got Astrophel back.

Astrophel on the other hand feels an Immediate connection to Jade’s feather. He hasn’t really felt anything since New War. Astrophel offers to find Jade/ connect with her through transference.

Being connected to Jade during the Big Moment awakens something in Astro, a fighting spark, a burning in his stomach to keep fighting. Jade and Stalker’s story and how it mimics his own relationships to Namid and Orion. The power imbalance. For a moment Astrophel knows exactly how it would play out if he were still an Orokin Prince, mid trance he looks over at Namid and sees them distorted, they would not have been able to be together either. His overbearing mothering and coddling, did Astrophel want children? Could he even have them now after how void touched the incident left all the Tenno? It didn’t matter, Astrophel comes out of the transference trance with depression brain fog gone, replaced with a fiery passion, he could not save the Jade he was connected to but he can create the next.

Namid banging their head against a wall cause this ends with them still not talking about their feelings lol.

Also not sure what the Stalker-Jade baby is named in this story 2 Orions existing would be hilarious 🤣

A breather episode might also be filler, but they're two different classifications!

oh god he would. If he had his choice, you'd be having kids/adopting every single chance you get, which seems counter intuitive because who would take care of the farm??? Man would handle all the child care if needed but still, that's a lot for one man.

Filler in cartoons isn’t dead but appreciation for it is very scattered.

What's funny is how if some of shows skipped filler episodes, they'd remove context for later. This is due to how they can feel like episodic shenanigans in the moment but retroactively carry more weight. Take... Amphibia for instance.

Domino 2? She returns to help with the coming army.

Tritonio? Kicks off Anne's swordsmanship and returns to lead the newts against Andrias.

The mushroom hive-mind? Not only does he return for the finale but Andrias utilizes his kind to control the wildlife for his army.

Mr. X? Seems like a diversion but he factors into the finale with Earth being armed enough to help Anne.

These are what I often call "Filler until proven otherwise." Until the show progresses without any callbacks to even a moment in that one episode, it is filler. That said, I do have to ask... so what?

I've often seen advocates for shows to have more filler. Specifically, to have more episodes that are self-contained and are character focused first. Many feel like made-for-streaming series take too much advantage of not fretting about missing an episode. I too miss when you had more episodes like DBZ's driving episode as a calm before the storm.

Now there are still fun filler episodes but where the “filler” aspect is done away with. While the episode might stand on it’s own in terms of its individual storyline, it has elements that will explicitly be set up for the future.

So it’s not lost but packaged differently. There are even stealth filler episodes where act one and two feel like their own thing before something entirely new comes in like a bolt from the blue. Said new thing might be for that one episode at first but will return in the finale.
