Moon 126-Leaf-fall

The Clan cannot escape tragedy.  Although the war with ChaffinchClan seemed to be winding down, the weather decided to take a turn for the worse.  A flash flood washed through camp, destroying dens and taking lives.  Gentle (113) was ill from the poison, and couldn’t move fast enough.  Gardeniapaw (9) and Midgepurr (23) were trying to help him to safety, but all three of them perished.  When the nursery flooded, Cressfreckle (42) and Graysong (39) tried to get Airclaw (68) and Gladekit (2) to safety.  Unfortunately, being so close to kitting, Airclaw didn’t have the endurance to make it.  And Graysong had never been a great swimmer.  The two of them drowned, but Cressfreckle managed to get the kit to safety.  Luckstripe (63) also perished, but got all three of his kits to safety.  Flightkit (5) and Lilykit’s (5)  untrained water magic may have helped them survive.  Bushmask (136), being an elder, required a lot of help to get out.  Flinttooth (27) and Timberfleck (23) were trying to save him, but all three of them drowned.  The last founding member of the Clan was gone. Stonefreckle (109) saw them go under and tried to swim back to help them, but was hit up against the rocks by the current and died.  Finally, just when the rest of the survivors had almost made it to safety, Cressfreckle saw Faiththrift (47) reaching for Yuccastar’s (105) paw.  Yuccastar stepped back, and let the other star-blessed cat get washed away by the flood.  The entire Clan is in grieving-they all lost someone-but Chervilcry (105) is especially impacted by it.  She wishes that she could have done more to stop the flood with her water powers.  But she is just one cat.  Maybe if Shardfrost were alive she would have been able to turn the tides.  But Chervilcry has never been that powerful.  Frostheart (29) and Needlepelt (29) seek comfort in each other, as the only survivors of Brightfalcon and Bushmask’s kits. Cressfreckle curls up with the bodies of his mates one final time, vowing that his loves’ memories will live on through him and Gladekit.  And that he won’t let Yuccastar kill again.  Peakspots (95) is shaken by the loss of his brother.  He seeks out the company of the kits and begins to feel safer with the powerfully star-blessed Lilykit around.  Steppepaw (9) has been made a Healer apprentice instead of a warrior apprentice.  With the loss of two Healers, the Clan will need more.  But she can’t help but feel like the Clan is trying to replace Gardeniapaw.

Meta: Yes, Airclaw was supposed to have her kits this moon. She died before she had them. Also, since Gentle was Steppepaw's mentor, he died and then she became a medicine cat apprentice, her new mentor is Needlepelt.

New Names (short story)

Lilywind was overwhelmed, love swelling in her chest and choking her as she gazed down at her newly born kits. Any movement they made, yawns and rolls and little paws twitching, sent a fresh wave of affection through her body, rocking her even as she lay in the red-tinged nest.

But as heartbeats passed and she watched her kits and took them in, she finally noticed a horrible problem. The warm swell quickly turned to ice. No…no…no..

“They’re here! Oh dear, I’m sorry I missed it!” 

Lilywind jumped at her mate’s voice. The sudden movement made one of the kits cry out, and she was quick to lick between his ears until he settled back down. She used the time to decide what to tell Lightburn, but when she lifted her head and Lightburn purred, lowering himself down to see his kits, all thoughts flew away in panic when he stiffened. 

Lightburn’s pupils constricted to slits. He rose slow and tensely, and when he spoke, his voice was taut with anger. “How long have you known they wouldn’t be mine?”

Lilywind flinched. “They are yours!” she insisted, but she knew it couldn’t be true. Two of the kits were dark brown, a very clear difference from Lightburn’s white-and-ginger pelt. They were different from Lilywind’s as well, and she bit her lip when they curled closer to her belly, the contrast only more clearer when directly against her.

“Do not–! Haven’t you lied to me enough?” Lightburn shouted. Lilywind flattened her ears against the noise, and wrapped her tail around the kits as they began to wail. 

Lilywind dipped her head low. “I’m–I’m so sorry, my love…I wasn’t thinking…I–”

“Don’t give me excuses,” Lightburn growled. “Face the truth like an adult, for StarClan’s sake! You cheated on me, didn’t you?”

Lilywind looked away.

“Answer me!” Lilywind could hear the burning scratches in Lightburn’s throat left by the shout. She began licking the kits as they continued to cry even harder. 

“Yes…”

Lightburn forced her muzzle away from the kits. She tasted the small drip of blood that welled on her tongue. “Don’t bother with those….those things!” Lightburn shook his head, his muzzle wrinkled. “I loved you!” Lightburn’s voice was suddenly despairing. “I was everything I could be for you, and this is how you repay me? You went behind my back and lied to me. What if they all looked like you, huh? Would you have let me believe they were mine forever?”

Lilywind gulped. “I wasn’t sure until I saw them myself. I thought they were yours, I really did!” She couldn’t help but wonder if he was right. Would she have continued to  lie if she had known? She knew that Lightburn had every right to be angry, deserved to send her directly over a cliff for what she had done. But even so, the kits were innocent, and she curled deeper around them. “Please….I love you more than anyone else. You’re the perfect mate, and I know that you can be a perfect father. Just..just give them a chance, please. They’re innocent.”

Lightburn blinked at her for a few long, painful heartbeats. Then he sneered. “If I was so perfect, why did you mate with someone else? Now you expect me to just forgive you, and accept these things like nothing ever happened? I didn’t think even you could be so stupid.”

Lilywind trembled. Maybe if he heard their names, he could see how real they really were. Not just kits, but they’re kits. “They’re not things. I named them. Berrykit for the ginger one, Flightkit for the–” For the dark one–”for the one with the white belly, and Lightkit for the last tom, after you.”

Lightburn shook his head and began to storm away. “No. Not after me. They’re not my kits.”

“Please!” Lilywind begged. “You can hate me forever, but I know you can love these kits. Please don’t leave us–them. I’ll make up for what I’ve done, I will!”

Lightburn paused. He stood for a long breath, then turned his head to glare at her. “I’ll give you a second chance on one condition.”

Lilywind’s heart melted with relief. “Anything.”

“You let me name the kits.”

Lilywind nodded fervently. “Of course you can.”

Lightburn padded slowly back. He stared down at the three bundles of fur with undisguised disgust. “Blisterkit,” he decided, one long claw pointing at Berrykit. “Puskit.” He gestured to Flightkit. “Blainkit,” he chose for Lightkit.

Lilywind froze. “You can’t name them such things!” 

Lightburn shrugged, though his muscles were still stiff. “Accept those as their names, and I will help you raise them. Don’t, and it’s over.”

Lilywind stared at him, ready to argue. She couldn’t let her kits grow up with such names….but could they grow up at all if she didn’t have any help? Wasn’t it better to grow up with an awful name than to not grow up at all? She felt utter revulsion at herself for considering this. Maybe she was weak. Maybe that’s the real reason she agreed. 

“Okay,” she sighed, choking. “Those will be their names.”

New life and almost deaths (Moon 29) Part 2. END.

Lindenstar wearily climbs onto the lichen rock. This moon has been a struggle. But she calls her clan to her anyway. Ceremonies still must be held.

"Flipkit please come up."

She bounds up.

"You are ready to become an apprentice. You will be known as Flip-paw, and your mentor will be Whiteminnow."

He comes up to touch noses with her.

"Flightkit, please come up."

He comes up.

"You will be called Flightpaw, and your mentor will be Shinerfin."

She comes up to touch her nose to his.

"Floatkit come up please."

He comes up to join his siblings.

"You are now Floatpaw, and you will be mentored by myself."

She comes down to touch her nose to his, and returns to her perch.

"Fiddlekit please come up."

He pads up.

"You'll be called Fiddlepaw and your mentor will be Squallflower."

She comes up, sits, and leans down to touch noses with him.

"Flitterkit come up please."

She bounces up.

"You will be called Flitterpaw, you have asked to become a mediator, and you will be mentored by Blewitspore."

Leechbite comes out as ... well, not a tom. Asking others to use It/its pronouns. Every cat agrees and welcomes it happily.

Scallopridge is expecting kits!

Suallflower, Lampreysplash, and Vermillioncloud welcome Robinbreeze into their relationship.

Leechbite gets a mangled leg from a badger after it bumps into the predator while on a walk.

As it walks back to camp, it sees Pathoulileaf walking back as well. His tail dragged behind him. He had bumped into an aggressive rouge.

Embertrail + Longtail

These two met with a clash, lol. Ember helped rescue Longtail´s first apprentice, and challanges the worldview his own mentor instilled in him. They met first at a Gathering, when they were both still apprentices, if only just so, and Ember, child of an adventurous housecat and a Colony Leader, shattered Longtail´s perception of the world.

He´s still the louder of the two, though. She loves him for his wit and his quick paws, and for the love he shows towards their kits.

Embertrail and Longtail are bound together by the wish to escape their heritage into a new, different life. Not irresponsible, just the wish for something new.

The oldest daughter, Sparrowfeather lost her littermate to sickness just shortly after they opend their eyes. She grew up when the Lake territory was new, and it shaped her as an explorer. She wants to become a courier, carrying messages between Lake, Sky and later Forest as well as the Tribe and other colonies.

Rattletail

Ginger mackerel shorthair! He´s genetically solid, but since he´s as ginger as they come, his phenotype shows his mackerel pattern. He´s high on the spotting, too, and has white socks, snout and locket. Fun fact, his stripes look a lot like Brick´s, if he wasn´t ticked.

Rattle was a sickly kit, and his parents were very worried about him. Having a fading kit was one thing, but loosing Flightkit to sickness hit them hard. He´s a bit of a mama´s boy and spends a lot of time with the healers. He´ll probably ends up as a herbalist.

Redwind

Ticked mackerel tabby torbie longhair with white! Looks a lot like grandfather Redtail, but less white and Runningwind´s pattern. The bodytype actually looks more like Pearl than Redtail, and the tone of ginger matches Brick pretty closely.

When his youngest struggles with gender identity, Longtail for the first time talked in detail about his father. Redpaw, who already knew Long and Ember picked the name for one of their fathers, comes to terms with being genderfluid and asks to be named for Runningwind too. Longtail nearly cries when the Clan shouts the name. Running and Red are so fucking proud of their grandchild they are making northern lights.

(I´m not gendering Redwind yet because Redwind has yet to settle on which genders the fluid is moving between. I might never attach a specific gender to the little bugger.)

Halkin

You might be wondering why I bother with Hal and his kin. That´s because in this Universe, several relevant characters - not just villains! - are related to him. Let´s begin.

Hal

Hal is described as a dark brown tabby tom in canon, and I´d be fine with that, except that means I´m either doing mental gymnastics for Russetfur or gingering Featherstorm. Since I´m kinda invested in several of his offspring being ginger, we´re tricking a little. Hal is now a norwegian forest cat, heterozygotus on the e-locus.

Featherstorm

So Featherstorm is described as a dark brown tabby, and I´d leave it at that except she also has kids with Blizzardwing, and one of those comes out ginger. No prob, I´m gingering Blizzardwing under the white. What Featherstorm does need to have is white, because Scorchwind has to get it from somewhere. She is also, again because of Scorchwind, heterozygotus on E.

Aaaand I´m gonna ignore Hal´s other mate until I´m getting to those kits.

I tried out Clangen for the first time today. Made a new clan and got attached to a lil kit named Flightkit. I watched as she grew up and got her warrior name, Flightpelt. She was adorable and I loved her.

And then she died in a flood. Heart got absolutely shattered. I wasn't expecting to lose her so soon.

10/10, would shatter my heart again.

Kittyclan- Clangen game yr 2 update!

Im probably not going to draw much for my clangen games anymore, just bec I want to focus on my warriors designs! But I do want to keep playing my clangen clans and posting about them!

Sooo my plan is to post under my tags #cryptid plays clangen and #kittyclan with little updates as things happen in the game! (I may also start posting about other clans I make as well!)

I think this will be a fun side thing to have on the blog hehe

Now I was going to do another drawing challenge for Kittyclan's second year, but like i said, im not going to do that anymore! sooo instead here's an update on what happened to Kittyclan in their second year! If you want context for what happened previously, heres the yr one post!

Here is the Clan now after 24 moons!

The clan has only had one death, and has gained 7 new cats!

1. Butterpaw and Cheesepaw were born to Milkystar and Fredheart at the beginning of the year! I named them Cheese and Butter bec I thought it would be cute if Milkystar's kits were named after things that are made from milk hehe

2. Lintheather dreamt of a prophecy and Beanzsong helped him work it out... so I wonder what that was about... Also this means Lint may be making friends with someone? Maybe? plz sir make some friends u r so lonely

3. Later Nilesrump, a former kittypet, is found by Lint and joins clan! I wonder if Niles had something to do with the prophecy!

4. Good things did not keep hapening however bec like a moon after Niles joined the clan Fluttershy DIED!! VIA AN ATTACK!!

I think this is a sign that some of the other clans in Kittyclan's forest are not so inviting to this new clan of loners and kittypets... They must be VERY mad bec Fluttershy was a med cat! they murdered a med cat!!!

5. three moons later another attack accured! I have to assume that Beanzsong was attacked by annother clan's angry warriors and that Fredheart had to protect him!

Fred was injured so badly he had to retire to the elders den early!

6. during the same moon, after their father had to retire, Cheese and Butter were made apprentices, and when they became apprentices they both became vengeful cats... I thin k they are very mad about what happened to their father, and they want vengeance on the cats who did this!

Also! Lintheather is Butterpaw's mentor bec the boy deserved to get an apprentice, he's a great teacher and I think he really wanted to be a mentor! And! due to the clan loosing a med cat so suddenly, Jessicapond chose to take on Cheesepaw as a new apprentice! Lets hope Cheese gets over being vengeful bec I have no clue how that would effect his work as a med cat heh...

7. Emitail and Flowerdusk join the clan during the same moon! Emitail is an ex-kittypet and Flowerdust is a disgrased deputy... Maybe Flowerdusk was the deputy of the clan that has been attacking Kittyclan, and he was kicked out for disagreeing with them!

8. In the last few moons of the year Flightkit is dropped off by his mom and Moorstalk, and ex-kittypet, joins the clan!

There are a few updates in the way of relationships too...

Milkystar and Fredheart continue to have the most conflicting relationship ever, do they like each other orrr no? I have no clue... Its a love hate relationship.

Sweetpea also continues to be not close to her leader at all despite being deputy, and continues to be Fredheart's bff

Butterpaw and Cheesepaw are like SUPER bonded, they are very close, which I think is adorable, but also they scare me bec they are currently a vengeful duo

there is also a little bit of drama happening between Beanzsong, Lintheather and Creatureivy bec Beanz and Lint both have little crushes on Creature, and Creature returns both of those little crushes! I want to see if any of those relationships progress bec I would love to have a healthy mates relationship in this clan lol

Also just ignore the fact that Lint has feelings for Jessicapond, Jessica is WAY too old for Lint! So im choosing to ignore that one... Tho I am worried that they will become mates on their own bec they both have feelings for each other :(

Anyways! thats pretty much it so far! Im going to just do small posts as thing happen from now on, but I wanted to catch yall up on what's happening!

This moon will be put into two posts because so much happened.

Moon 125-Greenleaf

When Cressfreckle (41) tells Airclaw (67) and Graysong (38)the news, they are shocked.  And grieving.  Graysong curls tighter around Gladekit (1), determined to protect his son.  The three decide then and there that they will find a way to bring Yuccastar (104) down.  And they also make another decision.  They don’t want to wait any longer for this, as their chance with Yellowcreek was stolen from them.  The three decide to all become mates.  Their relationship may have started because they all fell in love with Yellowcreek, but now they love each other just as much.  And Airclaw’s kits will be as much Graysong’s (and Yellowcreek’s) as Gladekit is Cressfreckle’s and Airclaw’s.  With his mates both in the nursery, Cressfreckle sneaks out at night to sleep with them.  Gladekit wakes up mewling, missing his dead brother and father, and Cressfreckle bumps heads with him reassuringly.  Outside of the grieving family, clan life is trying to find a new normal in its bereaved, war-torn world.  Conepaw (8) is still bossing cats around, annoying Chasingskip (37).  Faiththrift (46) is annoyed with how Graysong’s been acting-it’s like he’s forgotten that he’s also Healer and needs to do his job, not just dote on his kit.  Flightkit (4), despite her previous refusal to have anything to do with Yellowcreek’s kits, offers an olive branch in the form of grooming a hard to reach place for Gladekit.  Fry (32) is shocked by his new Clan’s decision to exile kit.  He argues with Bushmask (135) over whether it was right or not.  He’s not sure he wants his kits to stay in this Clan.  Luckstripe (62), also being new to the Clan, is shocked by the exile as well.  He and Fry have been spending time together and chatting about their thoughts on clan life.  Cressfreckle overhears them talking and wonders if, maybe, they’d believe him if he told them about Yuccastar.  Luckstripe’s kits are star-blessed, and Yuccastar has killed a star-blessed cat in the past.  He would probably want to know.  Frostheart (28), despite knowing better, catches a sick rabbit, leading to herself, Gentle (112), Amethystdapple (52), and Midgepurr (22) getting poisoned.

Meta: I was so upset over the fact that Yellowcreek died before he had a chance to officially get together with Cressfreckle and Airclaw that I manually went in and made the two of them mates with Graysong. And had them adopt Gladekit.

New life and almost deaths (Moon 29) Part 1.

Flightkit wanders out of the camp, Shoalburst notices. She leaves her mate with the other kits, and follows her son. She notices the dog before he does, and leaps over him as the dog attacks. She is grabbed, and she digs her claws into the dogs eyes. It yelps loudly and slings her into a tree before running.

She makes it back to camp, carrying Flightkit and limping heavily.

When she is treated in the medicine den, she watches her paws. It was hard to sit there and let Vermillioncloud work on her with a faraway look on his face while Flametail sobbed over her dying kit. Shoalburst might have come close to losing her son, but Flametail was actively losing hers. Slowly. And everything she was doing to help was failing.

It made her sick to her stomach.

Amberkit is grabbed by a hawk, but Troutflip snatches that bird out of the air before it can properly take off. Dragging it down and snatching his daughter out of its grasp.

There's nothing he can do to save his son, but at this moment at least, he can save his daughter.

Thriftpaw has been seen interacting with a kittypet. He disappears for a few days after that. His parents in particular search the territory and surrounding area tirelessly. He comes back out of nowhere with a collar on and a kittypet trailing behind him. His name is Icy.

Icy is here to ask to become a clan cat. Lindenstar hesitates, but Borageblossom steps up to mentor him.

Thriftpaw is scolded, just, so hard.

Some Warrior OC's based on my wider story that likely won't be written XD. More might become but here are some random ones.

Pinethistle: Light Brown tabby She-Cat, green eyes.

A careing and loving she-cat of Dune Clan more interested in nurturing than typical warrior duties, Pine always was called to be a mother with a permanent place in the nursery than a warrior. Unfortutaly as an apprentice, her once large clan defends against another they share a border with and her dream fade away as even her sister and father are killed. Convinced that her dream is gone, she becomes a warrior. However, a tom named Rattleheart she grew up with (and that she's developed feelings for) confesses feelings for her and promises her the family and role she wanted. They are thrilled to be expecting kits when he, like most of her clan, is killed. That is until Snakenose has her litter, and her daughter Flightkit quickly developes an unyeilding interest in his job. With Snake and Dune Clans leader permission, the plan is set in place for her to become an apprentice under him.

Frogstar found them once, and while no one knows, a moon later she excitedly goes to Pinethistle for help moving into the nursery as a queen before she welcomes their kits, Breezekit and Flightkit. Perhaps it has to do with her litter, along with Pines second litter, are the largest group of young cats growing up in Dune Clan since the conflict with Shore Clan started.
