Flow Wrap Machine: The Future of Packaging Technology
The flow wrap machine is at the forefront of modern packaging solutions. As industries continue to evolve, the need for efficient, high-quality packaging has never been greater. With the rise of e-commerce and the increasing demand for consumer goods, businesses are looking for ways to enhance their production efficiency and packaging quality. In this comprehensive guide, we will explore the numerous benefits, features, and applications of flow wrap machines, and why they have become an indispensable tool in the packaging industry.
What is a Flow Wrap Machine?
A flow wrap machine, also known as a horizontal flow wrapper, is a high-speed packaging machine that wraps products in a continuous flow. It is designed to package a wide variety of items, including food, consumer goods, and industrial products. The machine uses a film, typically made of plastic or other flexible materials, which is wrapped around the product in a tube-like fashion. The ends of the wrap are sealed tightly to create a secure and durable package.
This method of packaging is ideal for products that require high-speed wrapping, such as bars, snacks, biscuits, or pharmaceutical products. It allows for the efficient packaging of products in a range of sizes and shapes, making it highly versatile and customizable to meet the needs of various industries.
How Does a Flow Wrap Machine Work?
Flow wrap machines operate by feeding the product onto a conveyor belt that moves it through the packaging process. The machine uses a combination of rollers, heat seals, and tension control systems to wrap the product in a film. The key steps in the operation of a flow wrap machine include:
Product Feeding: The product is placed on a conveyor belt, which guides it into the wrapping station.
Film Unrolling: The packaging film, which is typically stored in a roll, is unwound and fed into the machine.
Wrapping: The film is wrapped around the product as it moves through the machine. The ends of the film are sealed tightly using heat and pressure to form a secure package.
Cutting and Sealing: After the product is wrapped, the excess film is cut and the ends of the package are sealed, ensuring the product is securely enclosed.
Output: The finished product is then discharged from the machine and ready for further processing or shipment.
This entire process is automated, which reduces labor costs and increases production efficiency.
Benefits of Using a Flow Wrap Machine
The use of a flow wrap machine offers numerous benefits for businesses, including:
1. High-Speed Packaging
One of the primary advantages of flow wrap machines is their speed. These machines are capable of wrapping products at a rapid pace, often handling hundreds of units per minute. Chocolate Surprise - Loki Odinson X Thranduil
Title: Chocolate Surprise
Loki Odinson X Thranduil
Additional Characters: N/A
Requested by Anon!
WC: 860
Warnings: Nothing much, just some kissing, Pocky Challenge, and fluff
Hanging out in Thranduil's chambers, Loki and Thranduil were doing each other's hair, both of them wearing silken robes and jewelry from Mirkwood. Thranduil was sitting on one of the chairs while Loki sat on another chair with his legs tucked under him. The room was filled with music, a mix of instrumental music that sounded like an orchestra of elves playing instruments, magicked up from Loki himself. It was pleasant to listen to. Loki raked his fingers through Thranduil's soft hair, combing it smooth until it was shining in the light coming from the window. Braiding a small section of the Elf King's hair, Loki held the braid in place with a thin piece of leather and tied it off.Â
âDone,â He said with satisfaction. âIt looks stunning, don't you think?âÂ
Thranduil looked at Loki and smiled. âI love it, thank you, Loki. Shall I do yours?" He asked and the God nodded, letting Thranduil braid his own hair.Â
Thranduil brushed Loki's hair, breaking through any knots and whatnot before beginning to plait it into elaborate braids, weaving it together beautifully. He did it very carefully, taking his time, making sure he didn't mess up any strands or anything, before finishing it off by weaving small green and gold gems into the hair and pinning two emerald clasps to the end of the braids. The gemstones glimmered in the soft light.
Looking over to Loki, he grinned proudly. âThere,â He said with a smile. âYou look absolutely beautiful.â He leaned forward slightly to kiss Loki on the cheek. As soon as his lips touched him, Loki felt his magic begin to flow through him and out of his fingertips, his stomach filling with butterflies.
âThank you, my Thrandy,â Loki then sighed happily, before speaking again, "Mmm, I'm craving."
Thranduil's ears quirked up, looking up at his love, "Craving, my darling? What is it that you crave for? Do you want me to ask the cooks to fix you up something? Pudding, cake, bread? Or perhaps Mirkwood's finest wine?"
Loki hummed again, "Mmm, chocolate."
"Ah, yes, choco-" Thranduil paused, his smile turning into a frown, "I, uh, darling, I do not know what 'chocolate' is."
"Oh," Loki looked surprised, "Well, chocolate is sweet, and sometimes it can be bitter, but it's like a treat- a dessert."
"That sounds lovely, my dear, but I have yet to experience such a thing," Thranduil spoke, tilting his head slightly.
"Really?" Loki raised an eyebrow, before using his magic to make a box of chocolate appear, specifically a box of Pocky. "This is Pocky, very common on Earth, in Asia, this is a treat of milk chocolate and sweet⌠Biscuit." He explained as he opened the box and silver wrapper, pulling out a single stick.
Thranduil narrowed his eyes, taking the stick into his own grasp, "It is so... Puny."
"Yes," Loki chuckled, taking a stick for himself, "I had said the same when I first saw it, but it is absolutely delicious!"
Thranduil watched as Loki took a bite, before he slowly took a bite of his, too. The moment Thranduil tasted the treat, he understood why Loki had been so interested in the sweets. It truly was exquisite, sweet, and refreshing. "My dearest," He began, "This is something truly extraordinary!"
Loki smirked, nodding, "Truly extraordinary indeed. I was thinking of selling it. Taking over Middle Earth one chocolate at a time." He spoke in a demonic voice. They sat there for several minutes eating the other sticks in the box in silence, Thranduil enjoying every crumb and drop of deliciousness. "I want to show you something, my love," Loki spoke up, grabbing another stick from the box. "It is a game. It is called the 'Pocky Challenge.'"
"'Pocky Challenge'?" He asked and Loki nodded. âWhat must I do?â
"Yes, well, what you do is place one end of the stick in your mouth, and I place the other end in mine. Then we both eat until we reach the middle, and whoever moves away, loses." He explained to the King, offering the stick to him.
Thranduil's fuzzy caterpillar-like eyebrows furrowed together before he took the end of the stick into his mouth, and Loki did the same. Loki took the first bite, watching Thranduil's eyes widen slightly as he took a bite and chewed thoughtfully, loving the chocolatey goodness. They continued, each taking a bite until they both stopped in the middle, their lips only slightly touching. The air between them was electric, but neither moved. Neither wanted to back down. Instead, they kept moving until they met in the middle completely. Thranduil finished the rest of what was left of the stick, pressing his lips to Loki's as the God wrapped his arm around Thranduil's waist, kissing him hard on the mouth. Thranduil kissed back, wrapping his arms around Loki's neck, tangling his fingers in his long black hair. They finally broke apart, breathing heavily. Loki reached up, stroking his hand through Thranduil's straight platinum hair, smiling softly.Â
"Do you want to play again?" He asked, and Thranduil gave Loki a smirk of his own.
"Yes, I would love to."

The second life of aluminium packaging
We consume products wrapped in aluminum almost every day. This waste most often ends up in the incinerator because it does not fit into the traditional recycling channels. The Liège Metallurgical Research Center (CRM)[1] has found a way to give a second life to small household and industrial aluminum.
Coffee capsules, crispsâ, biscuitsâ, chocolate or coffee wrappers, lasagna trays, medicine packaging, aerosols, hair coloring tubes, wine bottle rims, milk product jar lids ..., the list of everyday consumer products wrapped in aluminum is long.
This waste may be light but, on average, the Belgian throws almost two kilos each year in the dust bin.
And if they are found back in nature, their natural degradation is very slow: around 200 years for a can. If this packaging does not end up in the incinerator, it can end up in export circuits with industrial aluminum waste such as offcuts and shavings left over from the manufacturing process, motors and window frames and are therefore not recovered at their fair value with us (aluminum is currently worth 1800 euros per ton). It is not easy to give them a second life: they are very thin and polluted by glues, varnishes, paints, lacquers, plastic films, oils, foams or rubber.
"We need to make better use of these products and, in a conventional recycling circuit, it is very complicated. This requires special equipment to treat organic materials and, above all, the packaging aluminum burns very easily if we do not take precautions, âexplains Christian Marique, technical director at the Liège Metallurgical Research Center. "It must therefore be conditioned beforehand, mixed with other denser products, be prepared, fragmented and then compacted to be processed more easily. This is what we have put in place."
Metallurgy in reverse
Since three years, a CRM team has been working on designing a process for recycling household and industrial aluminum. This initiative is part of the "Reverse metallurgy" project, funded by the Walloon Regional Government since 2015. "Aluminum was selected as a key product by Reverse metallurgy. A secondary aluminum sector already exists , in which we recover a series of products which are melted then reformatted. When we looked in more detail at the potential of recycling, we wanted to go much further. " The technique from the Liège metallurgy industry collective research centre, doubly patented at European level, is now perfected. It also separates the aluminum from the coffee capsules from the grounds they contain and also allows domestic and industrial waste to be mixed in a single recycling process.
Outside the CRM premises, containers are filled with this little everyday waste.
"We needed raw materials. As early as 2016, the CRM asked its staff [2] to collect this household waste of small aluminum. We gave reusable bags to fetch them as well as a magnet, in order to be able to distinguish them from steel waste (such as certain capsules or boxes), which themselves are magnetic, â says the technical director, who is also the head of the aluminum recycling project. The recycling line is on a pilot scale but the CRM, in collaboration with the Liège-based company CMI[3], has designed an economically profitable factory project in which 20,000 tons of aluminum waste can be recycled per year. The plan foresees a doubling of the volume in a second stage. The project does not only have an ecological impact (in addition to the reprocessing aspect, the recycling of aluminum consumes only 5% of the energy necessary for the primary production sector), it also aims to create a new foundry activity in Wallonia, focused on recycling.
The miniaturized line of the CRM can process between 300 and 400 kilos of waste per day. "They are crushed, fragmented; certain organic components are released and then the waste is compacted into briquettes, with a density comparable to the same volume of pure aluminum, in order to make them easily handled. We knowingly compose them with certain types of waste placed together because we are targeting a particular chemistry ", explains, with a supporting demonstration, Adrien NĂŠlis, engineer and head of the technical part of the aluminum project.
Almost pure recycled aluminum
Then follows the stage when they are put in the oven. The oven is heated to 800 °. After 30 to 35 minutes, the recycled and molten aluminum flows, silvery and shiny, into the mold. Half a day is necessary to be able to handle a cooled ingot. After lithification, samples are presented for chemical analysis. "We can adapt the recycling recipe according to the sectors targeted as customers. We can indeed find iron or zinc in our recycled aluminum, metals that affect the properties of materials, their applications and their quality. Packaging aluminum is quite pure because it does not need other elements to provide mechanical properties, unlike that used to make frames or within the automotive and aeronautical industry. So, in the recycled version, we get very good aluminum. "
Who are the potential customers of recycled aluminum? "We have developed a cooking recipe which makes it possible to target special markets: foundries, the steel industry, a large consumer of aluminum to make calmed steels[4], the cosmetics, pharmaceutical and agrifood industries", details Christian Marique. "And we have other ideas, which are still in an exploratory state. With additive manufacturing[5] which is developing, but what still is very expensive today are the powders of the metals it uses. We could use our aluminum as a metallic powder, after an automation effort. It would be less expensive. New outlets are there. "
There remains a problem to be solved if we want to launch an industrial recycling sector: the collection of this type of waste upstream. "The public authorities will have to organize additional sorting from individuals and collection. If manufacturers are not sure of having all the necessary material, they will not invest in this project", concludes Christian Marique.

In which Todoroki and Kaminari âstudiedâ
Note: HEY EVERYONE, I havenât written in a long time (a year at least?) but I want to dedicate this to @selephi and @foxxhunter44Â âcas theyâve always been very supportive of my fanfics and heck I hope yâall enjoy this!
This hit, that ice cold, Michelle Pfeiffer that white gold⌠This one for them hood girls, Them good girls straight masterpieces~
Todoroki tapped along with the rhythm unexpectedly, unaware of where the upbeat song had seeped from until he saw from the corner of his tired eyes that the boy studying beside him was grooving with headphones on. The music was loud enough for Todoroki to wonder if it would prove any hearing damage to the electric hero chilling beside him, leg propped up.
âAre you even studying?â Todoroki had his cheek pressed against his hand, eyes fixated on the biochem notes Midoriya had kindly lent him. The candy wrappers and biscuit crumbs lay grubbily on the scratched up table and he took a refreshing sip of his ice cold coconut water.
Kaminari didnât hear him, head swaying like he was at the club. Spreading his notes further across the table, Todoroki shook his head in disapproval. He had hoped his classmate would at least try to focus on the upcoming exam. He didnât have to come after all; he was perfectly appeased with reviewing his lessons in the quiet midst of his room. It was really Kaminari who had asked him to join.
Todoroki nudged him with his elbow after emptying his drink. The blond boy unwantedly pulled down his red headphones and curved a brow, steadily shooting Todoroki a questionable look.
âYah?â
Kaminari had the audacity to give him a nonchalant one-word response, seriously?
Todoroki gave a grunt, meeting his golden irises with discontent.
âAs much as Iâd like to stay here and watch you throw your grades away,â Todoroki started, rough hands gathering his notes, âIâm gonna go take a breather.â
Come to think of it, if he left now, heâd probably be able to squeeze in time for the weekly hero special on channel 9 which Midoriya and Iida were for sure going to be watching in the common room. He could already see his best friendsâ eyes unblinking towards the screen and letting out the occasional laugh. Not to mention the scent of Yaoyorozuâs relaxing lavender tea tickling under his nose as she walked by in her comfy robe (yes heâs imagining this too)âŚher soft hair flowing like in her latest commercial andâŚ
Wait Todoroki Shouto. Just stop. Stop whatever youâre thinking.
âAww, come on Todoroki, donât be a bum! I was studying I swear!â
That snapped the duo quirk boy back to his senses.
Todoroki peered at him at the corner of his eyes, hands readying to stuff the papers back into his backpack.
ââŚwere you though?â
Kaminari sheepishly scratched the nape of his neck, legs easing back down onto the wooden floor. Hearing his friendâs challenging tone, he quickly said, âI meanâŚI WILL be studying. Dude, I totally invited you mainly just to likeâŚhang out and you knowâŚget to know each other. This biochem stuff is easy peasy. I could do the test in my sleep.â
âBig words Kaminari. Last time I heard, Jirou hit you on the head âcause you couldnât even draw a water molecule.â
âYou sure that was me bruh?â
âYes. âCause I saw your paper and you drew two oxygens linked to a hydrogen.â
The electric hero stuck his tongue out. âMy bad. Silly mistake reallyâŚ..ANYWAYSâ The blond waved his hand in attempt to change topics, ââŚ.letâs have some bro time.â
Todoroki didnât like the sound of that.
âAnd what does that entail?â He questioned, bending his knee onto his seat.
Kaminari flicked a piece of loose hair.
âOkay question 1.â
âWhaââ
âWho would you choose out of the girls in our class?â
âChoose for what scenario.â
Kaminari smirked. âAs a girlfriend bruh. Girlfriend.â
Todoroki shrugged. âProbably Yaoyorozu. Why?â
At that the fire and ice user felt a shook on the ground as Kaminari slumped flat, rolling in laughter.
âOH MY GOD MINETA SO OWES ME 10 BUCKS. â
The former stared blankly.
âWasnât that obvious, who else was I supposed to choose?â Todoroki tried again to shrug it off.
Kaminariâs eyes beamed, âWaitâŚâ He fished out his phone, finger mischievously hovering over the red button, âCan I record this confession so I can broadcast it to all of UA. Not that it needs broadcasting though since anyone who doesnât have grapes for brains know.â
Todoroki ran a hand through the whites of his hair before he reasoned. âWell, we met before during the recommendation exam. Then thereâs the cavalry battle. And of course our fight against Aizawa. Plus, we worked quite well rescuing Bakugou. Yaoyorozu is the most logical choice.â
âOnly you would explain that with âlogicâ.â Kaminari mocked and rested his chin against the cup of his hand, âThere isnât anything other than you two having that âbondâ that made you say Yaomomoâs name so fast?â
Todoroki actually gave it a thoughtful five seconds before coming up with, âUh..her personalityâs not bad and I wouldnât doubt sheâs the most intelligent student in UA.â
âAnd?â
âI really donât know what else.â
âBro, sheâs nicknamed âGoddessâ âŚclass B calls her âQueenâ. Ya sure there isnât even a slighttttt chance youâd say youâre also attracted to her face?â
Kaminari dragged the word rather mischievously, lips upturning into a cunning yet generous smile. It sent shivers down Todorokiâs spine and not in a pleasant manner. The latter stood up to put away the bunched up jacket that had slid down from the arm of a chair. Oh Thank God. It was something to distract him from saying the wrong words.
âHavenât thought much about it.â He nonchalantly uttered, mouth parted in an exhale. He turned around wanting to say more when he noticed a noise.
Steady three knocks were heard behind Kaminari and he gestured for his friend to grab the door. What stood on the other side was the girl of topic playing with the ends of her hair which had been fixed straight and held with a bowtie clip above the right of her forehead. Her glassy doll eyes happily danced from Kaminari to Todoroki which seemed unusually fixated on her.
It was different. Nice. Ponytails on her were good too, no, it was great! But this was refreshing. Like seeing the sun rising just after thunderous rain. Okay thatâs exaggerating. But heck, he liked it.
âSomething on her face?â Kaminari asked and if Todoroki had eyes behind his head heâd be able to see his annoying grin again.
The duo quirk boy rolled his eyes.
âSorry to interrupt Todoroki-san!â Yaoyorozu did a slight nod to Kaminari as well, âI was wondering if you two would like to enjoy some thumbprint cookies I made?â
At that the electric blond jumped over. Todoroki looked down from her rosy-cheeked smile and saw that indeed she had some baked good in her hands. Circular shortbread with an oval imprint in the middle filled with what looked like raspberry jam.
âThat looks delicious Yaomomo!â Kaminari quickly grabbed a few and popped it into his mouth ignoring all common etiquette. But it was Kaminari so âetiquetteâ didnât compute to him.
The other two watched as he chewed, sweat starting to bead on his forehead while his jaw completely stopped moving. He also didnât swallow.
Yaoyorozu frowned. âIs itâŚnot good?â
Kaminari faked a chortle while his face folded into an ugly grimace.
âAhw no! It zo âŚ.yummmmmmy,â the blond had managed to cough out and nudged Todoroki with his elbows. His voice was obstructed by the mixture of cookie dough and jam that had sat on his tongue. Kaminari rubbed his tummy.
âYYuuummm,â he mumbled again.
The white and red haired boy wanted to roll his eyes again at the thought of how fake Kaminariâs acting was and noticed the girl in front of him slump in defeat, hands lowering the plate of cookies sadly. Todoroki immediately extended a hand to receive the plate and took one of her creations to taste.
Oh god. Now he knew why Kaminari had that expression.
Yaoyorozuâs eyes glinted and sparkled with anticipation, watching his every move.
âSo? Todoroki-san?â
Should heâŚsay something?
A whole 20 seconds had passed before he turned to give Kaminari an awkward look as if they could read each otherâs minds.
Todoroki swallowed.
Man, it felt like sand and tasted like chalk. How he knew what chalk taste like he didnât know. At least the jam was somewhat normal.
âItâs,â He swallowed again just to get rid of the aftertaste, âvery well-done, Yaoyorozu.â
Good thing he usually had no expression âcause now was the best time to look neutral.
âAww thank you!â The girl appeared zealous, white teeth beaming with her lovely façade. She pushed the rest into his hands. âEnjoy these then. And oh! Theyâre great with jasmine tea! Iâll head back out now! Canât have Jirou and Ashido waiting.â
âSure thanks,â Todoroki nodded in acknowledge and waved once as he watched her stroll-skip along the hall back to the elevators, the flutter of her flowery pajamas catching his attention.
Kaminari hurried to push the door to a close and spat out what looked like cookie sludge into the closest garbage can, some missing the target and ending up on the floor.
âHoly crap that was the worst decision I ever made. It tasted like dirt.â
Todoroki sent him a heated glare.
âBro I know you were dying inside when you gulped that thing down too.â Kaminariâs gaze rested on the cookies in Todorokiâs hand, eyes narrowing as if they were poisonous.
âWell I didnât want to hurt her feelings.â
âYouâre in too deep my man.â
Todoroki pretended to not understand what his friend was implying and started to open his tea cabinet.
âWhat are you doing dude.â
âMaking jasmine tea as Yaoyorozu suggested.â
Kaminari could only facepalm and slumped back down onto his previous seat. âDonât tell me youâre actually going to eat the rest of her cookies? Iâll help you flush them down the toilet okay?â Kaminari sent a wink. âAnd Iâll keep it a secret between us.â
Todoroki shook his head. âI feel like she made it with all her effort and Iâm wasting that.â Tapping against the hot kettle that was beginning to bubble from the boiling water inside, the fire and ice user felt a small, appreciative tug along the curve of his lips.
âAnd seeing her this happy? That was worth it.â
He turned around noticing Kaminariâs sudden quietness and found him leaning forward with his phone in hand, his right thumb just releasing from the red button on his screen.
ââANNNNDDD DONE. RECORDED!â
Todoroki froze as he dropped what he was doing
âWhat.â
âIâve just recorded the oh-so-great Todoroki admit his crush like a giddy teenager.â
âI was not giddy.â
âOh, were you not? Okay sorry, Iâll say âlovesickâ.â
Todoroki took a step. His aura begin to build, even Kaminari could feel the heat emitting from his left side. A wave of warmth gradually began to waft over and the blond quickly stood in defence.
âYo, calm down bro, alright I wonât show anybody.â
âThen delete it.â
The blond crossed his arms, teasingly wiggled a finger. âSorry man, this is hard evidence.â
âFine.â
Kaminari felt uneasy. The boy in front of him loosened his expression so quickly that it felt almost ominous. Something was up.
âYou give up quick dude.â
Todorokiâs shoulders slacked and continued to brew his tea, taking it in stride. âItâs nothing. Just remembered that I have a picture of you crying because you didnât know how to write Jirou a confession letter.â
Kaminariâs jaw fell open in a big âOâ.
âWAIT WAIT WAIT HOLLLL UP BRUH.â The electric user stumbled in his steps as he shook Todoroki from side to side. âYOU HAVE WHAT? SHOW ME.â
The former scrambled to find Todorokiâs phone and the duo quirk hero fished it out of his pocket and began to swipe the screen a few times. A smirk finally formed on his chapped lips.
âYeah. Still here. I forgot to delete it after Bakugou sent it to me.â
âBAKUGOU?!â Kaminari pulled it off Todorokiâs hands. An embarrassing picture of him, eyes red, holding a piece of paper and pen in hand in the corner of the dorm lobby surfaced on the 6 inch screen.
âGuess weâre even then.â Todoroki shrugged. âYou can keep that and Iâll keep this.â
Kaminari fell onto his knees in defeat.
âNO PLEASE.â
âToo late.â
âIâll delete your recording! Come on!â
âNope.â Todoroki took a heavy sip of his tea as the aroma tickled his nostrils. He grabbed a cookie. Mmm, it was better with tea for sure. Or was this what petty-ness tasted like?
His heterochromic eyes fixated on Kaminariâs frantic expression as he instinctively pulled it back into his pocket.
âTo be honest, I donât even care if you showed what I said to other people. It was a comment Iâm not ashamed of and heck, everyone knew I voted for her for class president. Itâs not shocking Iâd support her in any way I can.â
Kaminari finally came to his senses and forced a sigh.
âFine. You win. But I swear to all that is holy, Todoroki Shouto, if you EVER show Jirou this I will not hesitate.â
Todoroki almost outright laughed. âOkay, okay.â
âBro date over now.â Kaminari slogged out the door, sounding unappeased, âGoodnight.â
âOh, already?â Todoroki teased.
Kaminariâs head swung low as he head towards the hallway and Todoroki mumbled a short âMm.â before helping him close the door.
Good thing he didnât mention that Bakugou had sent it to Ashido as well, Todoroki thought, or else heâd worry if Kaminari could even sleep tonight.

Title: The Voice in Your Head Author: @notcoolhajime For: @himanochi Rating/Warnings: T, for discussions of anxiety, trauma and suicidal thoughts. I can only hope this is done gently enough, but safety is priority, so please be careful before reading. Prompt: Komaeda has been haunted by the images and voices of the people that died because of his luck for years. He tries to keep it a secret, but Hinata finds out anyway. Authorâs notes: I love these two⌠ah. This prompt stuck to me immediately, though there were so many cute ideas, it was hard to settle. This plays with so many themes I love, though, so I hope you like it!
(ps. i love your fics, and "Tumbling Through the Remains" is a fave of mine âĽÂ i hope this finds you well!)
The first week was a little worrying, but it wasnât anything anyone wasnât used to. Everyone was still recovering, after all, and there were times that one of their classmates would disappear into the ether- or god knows where- before reappearing at the dining room like nothing had happened. It wasnât until Komaeda had been gone a second week that alarm bells started ringing, and a search party was sent out.
When Hinata opens the room door, heâs not sure what to expect. The old motel on the third island had avoided the notice of their search party. Souda said heâd checked it but apparently he hadnât done a good enough job. It wasnât until Hinata realised all the blinds were rolled down that Hinata decided to check for himself. The blinds were usually all half-closed, but the way they were closed now was too intentional. Hinata doesnât recall things ever done so immaculately- how neat it was screamed hide me.
Opening up into each room was darkness, and the smell of musk and mould that permeated the motel after years of neglect. Seeing each room abandoned and dusty called for some airing out. Before Hinata left each room, he gave the blinds a roll up and opened the window for sunlight to enter. The smell and old air would be replaced by the summer outside. There were condom wrappers, and Hinata crinkled his nose at the condoms when emptying the trash. He had no idea how long theyâve been there, or who on the island was irresponsible enough to let these biological materials fester. Â
Itâs only when he exited the third room that he picks it up, a kind of low murmuring from the end of the corridor.
His heart rate picks up, and heâs walking in two-step paces until he reaches the door, but by the time he gets there itâs mysteriously silent. Hinata gives the door a knock, and there is still silence. He gives it one more knock before deciding- to hell with it. He turns the knob, and pushes the door open to another dark room.
If one didnât focus hard enough, or if they decided only to have a peek, the stillness could have masqueraded as deception. But because the door is wide open, and the dim light from the corridor shone into the room, vaguely, he sees the shadow of a boy tucked into the bed looking straight at him.
âKomaeda.â Hinata says, reaffirming to himself that it is indeed Komaeda. Hair paler than his skin, messily strewn in all directions.
He stares at him for a few seconds. The other boy lay still as a statue. Finally, maybe after realising that Hinata wouldnât disappear anytime soon, Hinata hears a shuffle as Komaeda starts to sit up.
âŚ
âThey were here yesterday. They were around the curtains there, in the corner of the curtains- no- over there- Hinata-kun.â
âWhat were?â
âThe apparitions.â Komaeda says. Each syllable enunciated deliberately, like a man getting used to his own voice.
âHallucinations?â says Hinata. Now that Hinata has closed the door upon Komaedaâs request, the room is dark inside, and Hinata can hardly see anything for the drawn curtains. Small rims of light appear around it, but it only lights clouds of dust. There is a figure in shadow to his left, nestled into the bed. He is now sitting upright, blanket folded around him like a half cocoon. The voice came from there.
âTheyâre apparitions, Hinata-kun. Theyâve been here for days. You shouldnât disrespect them.â Hinata can hear the small pitter patter of fingers along the quilt. It was like Komaeda was playing piano in the dark, a private performance, meant for himself that Hinata has walked in on. âAh, look. Sheâs angry at you-â
âAre you playing around with me?â If Hinata had any more patience, perhaps heâd be calmer⌠but to find Komaeda for the first time in two weeks, wrapped up in the dingy motel? His initial fear was turning into impatience. On his way into the room, Hinata kicked over a bin bag overflowing with crisp packets and biscuits. A few cans of half-empty blue ram cans stood on the bedside stand. If Hinata bothered to look around the room, he knew there would definitely be more. Whoever drank it wasnât good at finishing carbonated beverages quickly.
Komaeda gives a solitary chuckle. On a normal day he might have strung him along a little further. âMaybe.â Komaeda says, with a small shrug. âJust so you know, Hinata-kun, they were actually here before. Theyâre just not here right now.â Â
âThe hallucinations?â
âApparitions.â Komaeda corrects, with one finger pointed up, swirling around the top a little. âYou shouldnât insult guests. Would you be happy if someone pretended you didnât exist?â
A strange swirling pools in Hinataâs gut, the mixture of discomfort and sympathy. âKomaedaâŚâ
âWhat are you here for?â Komaeda quips, immediate, like heâs afraid to lose direction of conversation.
âIâve been looking for you.â Hinataâs brow is furrowed. âI mean- we all are- weâve all⌠look, Saionjiâs not gonna say it, but weâre all concerned.â
Komaeda laughs. âThatâs unnecessary.â
âItâs been two weeks, and no oneâs seen you. God, have you been here alone all this time?â
âIâm not alone, Hinata-kun.â
It takes Hinata a second to figure heâs talking about the spirits.
Itâs enough to start him walking towards Komaeda, though he stops halfway to consider that Komaeda came here to hide. As much as he wanted to, he couldnât flip Komaeda over to search him for injuries, even if not knowing what the man had been up to for 2 weeks made Hinataâs stomach curl.
"Have you hurt yourself?â Hinata resists the urge to pick up Komaedaâs arm, ask him to remove the blanket heâs wrapped in, survey him for injury. It wouldnât be appropriate, especially as heâs had to get through barrier after barrier to get here. Komaeda obviously hadnât wanted to be found. Heâd come into himself, purposefully, to the most unlikely place he could think of to feel⌠safe?
But Hinata looks around, at the cans and dust and empty crisp packets, and the mountains of pot noodles he starts to see hidden under the desk at the end of the room.
He wonders if Komaedaâs really safest here, with only himself.
âNope. Iâm well, Hinata-kun. I appreciate you looking for me, but Iâm sorry to waste your time. You can leave if you want to.â Komaedaâs smile is as unconvincing as ever.
âWhat if I donât want to?â
It draws Komaeda aback slightly. Komaedaâs finally looking right at Hinata, and not running away like he has been all this time. âWhy would you want to stay?â He says, as if the thought is unimaginable.
Like the idea of leaving Komaeda alone was ever a comfortable one. Hinata had left on Komaedaâs suggestion twice, and the second time, heâd ended up dead. Discomfort still gripped at his chest, at memories of the stomach-churning horror heâd felt upon seeing Komaeda tied up on the ground, spear ripped through his stomach, eyes open in terrorâŚ
And then to learn, afterwards, it had been inflicted by himself?
Itâd happened once. It wouldnât happen again.
Hinata settles on a firm âI canât just leave you alone.â
As if something clicks in his head, Komaeda nods. âAhah⌠right, of course. It makes sense you wouldnât trust me, after everything Iâve done.â Komaeda gestures to himself, lifeless arm pointed to his chest. Enoshimaâs arm, sewn onto Komaedaâs missing one sloppily, though somehow the blood vessels had managed to connect by luck, and blood flowed through keeping the hand fresh - albeit useless. Hinataâs eyes follow it. Heâd have to do something about it eventually. Komaeda continues. âBut I can assure you that I have no plans similar to back then, in this state. Not when everything is going so well, and everyone is happy, and I-â The hand flops, and Komaeda does two blinks, as if heâs processing what to say. âAh⌠excuse me. I just canât figure out if you visiting is good or bad luck, Hinata-kun. You should really leave soon.â
Hinata feels his brow furrowed in frustration. âWhat do you mean?â
âHinata-kun, Iâm happy as ever. Everyone else is happy- things are as they should be.â
âNow youâre just being cryptic. Thereâs no way I can leave you now.â
Thereâs hesitation, as Komaeda contemplates those words. His mouth quirks into a stiff smile, like itâs something heâs kept in that wants to come out, but canât. âIf I tell you, Hinata-kun, you definitely wouldnât leave.â
Hinata drags a stool beside the bed, and props onto it, reaffirming that he was serious about staying. This keeps Komaeda fidgeting on the bed. He fidgets for a few minutes with his fingers, and leans back into the bed-rest. Hinata almost thinks Komaedaâs forgotten about him, before suddenly he speaks again.
âIâm really sorry that you had to walk into this, I really wasnât expecting any visitors. Usually cleanliness is all thatâs good about me, so this must be disappointing, huh? It makes me embarrassed that youâd see me like this.â
Hinata waits for him to spill his mind. He can tell Komaedaâs anxious, from the way he dances around the topic.
When it finally comes, Komaeda sighs, and goes quiet for a bit.
âThey say voices appear at your deathbed, you know, Hinata-kun? I used to wake up at night, and another patient would be screaming there was someone above their bed. They always came to my room when there wasnât much time left. Do you think maybe, finally, itâs time I couldâŚ?â Komaeda says, peacefully. Komaedaâs fingers are fiddling above the blanket, and Hinata notices that theyâre locked as if in loose prayer. Â
âDie?â Hinata says. How Komaeda sounds so wishful and hopeful eases over Hinataâs shoulders, into his breath, wrapping around his lungs and heart. When Komaeda nods, it squeezes his chest tightly. It hurts him. âKomaeda⌠it hurts when you say those things in that kind of tone. Is this what you were thinking about? All by yourself?â
Komaedaâs face morphs from one of feigned seriousness, to one where his eyes fall to nowhere and a smile graces his lips. Komaeda looks gentle in the way he does when heâs left his will to the wind. Heâs in one of those moods where he talks, and whatever slips through his lips is a filtered, warped version of whatever he was feeling.
âHinata-kun, for everything I did, fate is already too kind to me. These are all things I deserve. I have these feelings because itâs everything Iâve taken from others, and theyâre still waiting, here to watch the end of the trainwreck.â
Hinata winces out loud, and blue-gray eyes dart to him.
âItâs for the best.â Komaeda laughs. âI hadnât expected to make it this far. There were so many times, I could have died at any moment. But I havenât! Iâm so lucky. It could have been on the plane- but instead, it claimed my parents. I was told I had six months left to live, and my nurses died before I did. But now that everything is peaceful, I can finally hear them.â
Hinata can only stare in horror.
âItâs so much clearer than before, Hinata-kun, which means itâs closer now! And theyâre telling me thisâŚâ Komaeda leans closer, closer, and Hinata only budges out of courtesy. Itâs a flurry in his head, trying to capture everything Komaedaâs telling him, puzzle it together in real-time. The boy hooks a finger into Hinataâs shirt, pulling him closer, like itâs a secret. âGathered together with you Ultimates- itâs you, or me. Stuck on this island, finally, my luck has nowhere else to go. Iâm waiting for it- for something to happen. Theyâre waiting for me, itâs time for me to-â Â
âFor gods sake, donât insult us!â Hinata tugs himself off Komaedaâs grasp. âDo you really think you can think about all this by yourself and not tell us? And weâd just let it happen?â
âAh, I knew saying these things would come off wrongâŚâ Komaeda scoffs, eyes lowering knowingly, unimpressed. He sighs, like heâs processing heavy regret. âItâs impossible for kind people to sit back while something like me speaks.â His voice is steady- steadier than before- so matter of fact it shouldnât belong to someone who had just invited his own death. Confusion lingers within Hinata, until Komaeda speaks again.
âIn that case, itâll please you to hear this was just a joke! Just leave now, Hinata-kun. Iâve appreciated your time.â
Oh. Yeah, right. As if he hadnât heard that one before, the first time heâd told him about his history. A story so unbelievable, the Hinata back then had taken him for his word. Seeing Komaeda here, trembling in his words⌠it was obvious it hadnât been a joke back then, too.
Like hell heâd believe that again.
âItâs not that easy, Komaeda! You canât just leave us like this.â
âWhy not?â
âCos shit happens- but do you really think dying would rid the world of despair? Solve world hunger? Make our lives better? You think taking everything that happens and turning it in towards yourself really helps anything?â The casual, distant tone with which Komaeda talked about this, like he was deciding what to have for breakfast or what to wear to the cinema, was scary. âOur lives are better because weâre all together.â
Komaeda purses his lips, stares at Hinata to ask if that is really the case. Hinata stares back, until the realization hits him.
âWeâre not gonna disappear so easily.â He murmurs.
âHow do you know?â
âI⌠I donât. But no one can.â It doesnât convince Komaeda, listening calmly. Hinata can imagine, now, a younger boy with tousled white hair, too young to be anywhere close to knowing what death meant, waiting as the doctor gave his diagnosis. The first time. The second time. Maybe even a third and fourth. âBut the thing is⌠I know I donât want you to die. I canât imagine our lives being better without youâŚâ Hinata bites his lip. âThe world outside is in chaos. I think itâs pretentious to think itâs all because of you. To act as if there were no other factors involved⌠no offence.â
"You always act like itâs your fault that fate played you around itâs finger, the way Enoshima played us around hers.â Hinata continues. âI mean, youâve done⌠things, but we all have. It doesnât mean you deserveâŚâ Hinata grits his teeth, upset. At what, Hinata doesnât really know. At fate? The way itâd handled what had happened to all of them? What had happened to him? What had happened to Komaeda? "It doesnât mean you deserved to be in pain, Komaeda. Lifeâs not this kind of equivalent exchange bullshit. Itâs probably hard for you to understand, butâŚâ
"Lifeâs not really about all the things that fucked around with us and put us where we are. Itâs about all the things we have the power to control, and where we end up after that.â Hinata says. Itâs only after this that he realises itâs just as much to his himself, and his head, as it is Komaeda. Â It wasnât as if his whole past was clean. He had blood on his hands, from a string of bad decisions heâd made, that placed him at the heart of a nightmare. He was still alive now. That fact didnât come lightly. There were still times he wondered if him being allowed a second chance was a mistake.
âOur own thoughts are a hard one.â Hinata whispers. The room is suddenly chilly, as if a ghost had run down his spine. After all, if Komaeda had demons, they all did. âItâs a hard thing to control, I mean. I bet it must be hard, to have ghosts talking to you. Itâs hard enough having them telling you to die, you donât need your own telling you that too.â
Komaeda gives a dull laugh, but he softens. âYou talk like you have experience. Perhaps⌠you hear them too?â
It was a logical conclusion, after all. In every way, their whole class was far from innocent. Unspeakable things had happened that involved every single one of them. A team-effort.
âI⌠I mean⌠â Hinata stammers. âJust one.â
âJust oneâŚâ Komaedaâs eyes widen at that. âAh- how silly of me, Hinata-kun. Of course Kamukura-kun-â
âNot Kamukuraâs. Kamukura doesnât really tell me anything bad. Or good, really. He just kindaâŚâ Hinata takes a deep breath, stretching out his back a little, scratching at his head. âItâs kind of cliche, but⌠I donât think anyone could ever hate me more than I can.â
Komaeda blinks, as if the notion of anyone hating Hinata is the most absurd thing heâs ever encountered. Regardless of his reserve course student status, what had impacted him at all was truly Hinataâs doing, and not Kamukuraâs. And despite his hand in the destruction of the world, Komaeda finds, itâs hard to blame such a thing on him. It hadnât been Hinataâs choice, or intention.
Just⌠unfortunate luck.
It slips from his lips, before he can catch it. âAh⌠I donât see why someone as wonderful as you should feel that way.â
Hinata groans, waving it away, hoping to wave the flush in his face out too. âStop it.â
âEven if you were a Reserve Course student, you-â
"Please.â The pouty glare Hinata shot at him was almost comical. How Komaeda could make him feel both embarrassingly flattered and embarrassingly lame at the same time was astounding.
âAh, Iâm sorry,â Komaeda smiles, solemnly.
They both sit in the dark, thinking. Now that the tension is out of the air, it was comfortableâŚ
For the first time in a few weeks, Komaeda realises the room is silent. His eyes move over to Hinata, making faces at the ground like heâs trying to fight the flush in his face and soul. A fondness washes over himself too, for everything Hinata is, and for the things he feels when heâs around him.
For a reserve course student, serenity really did follow him, and it melted into Komaedaâs veins. Itâs something heâs relatively sure hadnât come up in the small moments he had with Kamukura, so the feeling was really all his ownâŚ
Komaeda is happy, though he wouldnât admit it to himself, that Hinata had bothered to find him. That hadnât been a lie. He was used to his words- almost as uncontrollable as his luck- frightening others away. Though everyone was kind enough to be civil around him, there was always a fear that one day everyone- and especially Hinata-kun- would come to his senses, and hate him.
It was a selfish feeling, to want Hinata to come and leave simultaneously. It was as contradictory as wanting to live with others, and needing others to be safe and happy as well. To be alive was to consciously hurt others, butâŚ
Why would Hinata hurt if he died?
Itâs not a possibility that had ever occurred to him. Itâs not something he really understands, and heâs not sure if he wants to, but it pulls at his heartstrings like everything did about Hinata.
Like always, and always, and always.
"What you said about it hurting, Hinata-kunâŚâ Hinataâs eyes turn so calculatedly, like theyâre trying to decipher how much Komaeda has found out, what road heâs taken or if heâs reached a dead end. The attention makes Komaeda blush, so he looks up to the ceiling, because itâs more comfortable to have the unimpressed blank wall staring at him than whatever Hinata was trying to do - has always been trying to do - ever since the first day heâd met the ordinary boy. Like he was trying to look through his surface, straight at his heart and extract information Komaeda couldnât afford to let out. âCan you still hurt?â
For the first time since Hinataâs started talking today, Komaeda can sense a flinch. Nothing physically, in the unsurprised still figure of the boy sitting beside of him, but almost as if something within him shook.
âI think so. Of course.â Hinata says. âI⌠I mean, I know what I do and donât want. I try toâŚâ Seeing Hinata, ungraceful and pained, looking from the floor to the ceiling, out the window to anywhere else but him.
It sets his mind at ease.
âEven with everything I am, you still donât want me to disappear?â
âOf course not.â Hinata retorts. âWeâre⌠friends, right?â
Friends. The word sends a shiver down Komaedaâs spine, and he clutches at himself. Hinata leans over in worry, but Komaeda shakes his head, a shuddery smile on his lips. âYou make it so hard, Hinata-kun.â Hinataâs eyes fall on Komaeda, hunched over the blanket.
From the first day heâd met him on the sand and agreed to be dragged around so messily, when heâd known that death was a good option he could take at any opportunity, but the other boy had messed things up and made it fun.
From the day in the Neo World Program when he was in the hospital bed sweating and sure he was going to die, desperately and embarrassingly reaching out just one last time because Hinata had made him realise that death was terrifying. Back then, he hated himself because he should have been relieved to die from Despair Disease- heâd be a good person for it⌠but still heâd selfishly tried to ask him to stay, even if his words were slurred and beyond comprehension.
And then finally, right before heâd taken the spear in his hand, and Hinata had stopped him, remembering how hard it had been to turn him away, even with the realisation that the boy was anything but the Ultimate Hope. Hinata was a common boring reserve course student devoid of hope or despair⌠It was that day heâd found out he still had emotion, instead of the sheer faith in hope he preached.
Emotion. The word rung in Komaedaâs mind, because heâd cast it away long ago as useless and dangerous, because everyone heâd ever loved had died. And even now, with the boy beside him with such an ordinary body, a disordinary brain but the most extraordinary soulâŚ
âYou always make everything so hard.â
âHeyâŚâ Hinata places a hand on Komaedaâs shoulder, finally, and Komaedaâs gaze lingers on the contact.
Komaeda sighs, fiddling with the bottom of his T-shirt. âWell⌠if weâre friends⌠and if you donât hate me, then perhaps I do need to do something about the voice in my head after all. At least one of them.â
âAt least your own.â Hinata says, smiling. Itâs the first time Komaeda sees Hinata really smile today, because of something heâs said. It makes his heart so bright Komaeda probably doesnât need the sunlight once Hinata leaves. Itâs like heâs gone outside, and he feels refreshed despite being cooped in the room under three layers of dusty blankets, sweating the sheets. âKomaeda, I hope they stop.â Hinata starts to settle in his chair, leaning back. âAre you sure I canât stay?â
âAh⌠Hinata-kun, youâre really asking too much of me. To ask my mind to shut up, and to have me not worry if youâre in the room while I sleep?â Komaeda chuckles. âPlease donât say things like that, Hinata-kun⌠it gives me hope.â
âIs that a bad thing?â Hinata presses, inching closer in a way that makes Komaedaâs voice skip a beat. âIf youâre so stubborn, and you really canât wait for me to leaveâŚâ Hinata grimaces, as if a particularly painful memory passes his mind. Komaeda feels a sense of deja vu, though Hinataâs getting a bit too close for his mind to work hard enough to decipher quite what hazy image is forming in his mind. âIâll just have to leave something with you, I guess.â
Before he knows it, arms reach over his shoulder, and heâs hugged against a warm, firm embrace. One of Hinataâs hands is digging into the bed, but his other is firmly tucked around him. Itâs warmth that beats the blankets around him, or the summerâs day, no question. Then, the other reaches out to wrap around him too. Itâs not just warm. Komaedaâs wondering if heâs sick with disease again, because he feels his internal body temperature rise.
Komaeda wants to warn him, wants to push against him, wants to tell him heâs contagious, contaminated, that the ghosts will travel to him, Hinata-
âItâs okay.â Hinata says. And when he says it so reassuringly, how can Komaeda even react. Itâs so self assured and calm. He feel Hinataâs deep breath, and the shudder of his sigh against his chest. âKomaedaâŚ?â
âHinata-kun?â
âI know itâs hard to control your thoughts, and I canât hear what goes on inside your head. And I donât know what the ghosts tell youâŚâ Hinata pauses. âBut Iâm-â
It feels like time stops. Komaedaâs eyes widen.
 Iâm âgladââŚ
 Komaedaâs heart beats.
 Iâm glad âyouâreââŚâŚ
Hinata speaks, over his shoulder. Itâs a single line, and it leaves Komaedaâs chest beating and glowing in a way that almost hurts.
 Iâm glad youâre âŚâŚâŚâŚ
 "alive.â
It doesnât process immediately. Even after Hinata pulls away, the words echo in his head. The particular combination of words were confusing, confusing, misplaced? Confusing. Confusing? Confusing?
Glad heâsâŚ?
Shifting awkwardly from leg to leg, now standing upright, Hinata clears his throat. âI⌠Uh⌠Iâm sorry if that was awkward.â
Komaeda shakes his head, the warmth lingering around him, as he pulls the blanket over himself, to fill the empty air. But itâs warm, warm. Warm. Up his neck, in his face. The sun wasnât this warm. The sun wasnât this warm, but Hinata was.
âIâll⌠come again tomorrow. Iâll whip something up, too, so youâre not just eating crisps all day. I-if thereâs too much in your head⌠I get it, itâs tiring.â Komaeda doesnât look up at Hinata when he speaks, but heâs relatively sure despite his voice that Hinataâs heart is racing too, from the sighs the man tries to hide, trying to keep his voice stable.
âAre you⌠really serious about this, Hinata-kun?â
âI donât make half-promises.â
âDo you know what youâre getting into?â
âIâm just bringing you a sandwich. Itâs no big deal.â Hinata notices Komaedaâs eyes watching him, unwavering uncertainty. âIâll be back. I promise.â Hinata holds out his pinky, and Komaeda doesnât know how such an innocent gesture can be so intimidating. âEspecially if youâre gonna make that face every time I come.â Komaeda was frozen. What face? Was he making a face? What kind of terrible expression could he possibly be showing right now? Trembling, exposed. Probably ill. âYou just have to promise youâll be here too.â
Komaeda brings his hands up, hesitantly. Itâs Hinata who is offering, showing no intention to retract, but Komaedaâs eyes still flicker to his hand. When he finally hooks his pinky around Hinataâs⌠itâs a childish thing, a pinky promise. But it feels important.
âI can never tell if youâre stupidly brave, or brilliantly stupid.â Komaeda pouts, eyebrows knitting together in almost challenging unsureness.
âWell⌠I have a man so bored he memorizes cereal box nutrition-labels in my head. I agreed to a lobotomy to put him there. What do you think I am?â
âProbably both.â
Hinata gives the curtest, stiffest nod he can get out there. âProbably.â Hinata mumbles. âYouâd think having someone filling up your brain would be the least bit entertaining, but itâd be good for me to have a good conversation too.â
âThereâs always everyone else, Hinata-kun. People enjoy talking to you. Youâd never be alone.â
ââŚYou think so?â Hinata says, like his popularity is unknown to him. Komaeda wonders how someone so tuned-in to others can be so clueless about himself. If only Hinata could see in himself the unplaceable feeling that Komaeda could sense from the man- that captured the rest of the class the way it did. The sense of serenity and life within himâŚ
He wonders if even someone like that couldnât love himself, how anyone could possibly be able to.
âI mean⌠everyone else isnât⌠you. Itâs just not⌠the same.â Hinata turns away, face turning the faintest shade of pink even in the dark. âI like it⌠spending time with you. Even if weâre justâŚâ Hinataâs gesturing into the air. âYou know.â
âIâll see you tomorrow, then?â Komaeda asks, as Hinata reaches the door.
âYeah.â Hinata chuckles. âIâll see you again tomorrow. Have a rest, yeah? I hope itâs quieter, tonight. If the voices come back, just remember, Iâm-â
âI know.â Komaeda waves.
Hinata turns away, but he still looks unsure, somehow. âW-well⌠if you need me..? You know where Iâll-â
âHinata-kun.â Hinata freezes, and Komaeda chuckles. âI think Iâll be fine. Thank you.â The light of the corridor is shining into his eyes, and itâs blinding, so he canât help but squint before settling under the blanket once again⌠and then, with a click of the door, Hinataâs gone.
Itâs just him, the darkness, and history. For the first time in weeks, it was silent but for the hammering of his heart. If the ghosts werenât back, they would be eventually.
 Heâs tired.
 Tired.
 Tired.
So in the end, Hinata had known, that coming wouldnât have made them disappear, huh?
Komaeda had nightmares, sometimes. He was sure theyâd be back sooner or later, as the warmth drifted over his body, and the exhaustion from his beating heart dragged his limbs to sleep one by one, and his eyelids closed.
But for now, for the first time in weeks, it was quiet in his head.
There was just one voice- Hinataâs voice- that stood in his mind.
 âIâm glad youâre alive.â
Even with hundreds of voices crowding his head, as long as Hinataâs was there, at least he didnât have to deal with them alone.
One day, maybe Hinataâs voice could strengthen his, and he could say that about himself as well.
But for now, itâd do.

Corner of Love
Ship: Royality, Analogical mention, mayybe future LAMP? idk I havenât fully fleshed out the story yet oop-
Warnings: one word is all caps, I think thatâs it?
Iâm planning to include this as a short filler chapter in my Filipino!Patton fic Iâm working on, so take this as a sneak peek I guess?
âŤ
It was another one of those nights where Patton and Virgil had chosen to switch dorms yet again (which was now every night, but they chose not to notice) so that they could stay with their respective significant others. Well, Virgil and Logan werenât together just yet, but Patton and Roman had snickered about how they might as well be on more than one occasion.
Patton lay horizontally on the bottom bunk, his head just barely hanging over the edge, while Roman sat on the floor against the bed, cross-legged, chortling at a pun Patton had just made. The night so far had been joyful, the two having shared jokes, small talk and cutesy exchanges that would have made oneâs teeth rot had they been there, as well as some biscuits from Pattonâs hometown, left half-eaten in their container on the floor next to Roman. A biscocho or silvanas would be plucked from their jar from time-to-time, satisfying the two lovebirds dwelling deeply in each otherâs presence.
The laughter quieted down, and Patton took a butterscotch from its plastic bag. Slowly tearing apart the wrapper, he pondered on what to say next. He held up the butterscotch against the light, crumpling the wrapper in his fist. Patton counted the nuts he could see - a fun little habit he liked to do before eating one - and popped the whole thing (yes, the whole thing, despite past experiences warning him not to) into his mouth at the same time an idea popped into his head.
ââEew, couwd I bway sowâ âewsic?â Patton asked, his voice muffled by the sticky treat.
Roman looked at him, soft amusement carved into his face. âHm?â he responded.
Pattonâs eyes widened, and he sat up straight to properly swallow the butterscotch. âSorry!â he apologized, letting the last of the snack go down his throat.
âItâs okay, Bubbles,â Roman said, turning to face Patton. His bangs shifted as he tilted his head slightly. âWhat is it?â
The smile on Romanâs face still made Pattonâs heart flutter, no matter how many times he saw it. He blushed and stuttered a bit before continuing his sentence.
âCould I play some music, Deer?â Patton inquired meekly.
Romanâs eyes brightened, the violet coloring his eyes seeming to illuminate for a second. âOf course!â He stood up and held out his hand to help Patton off the bed, despite the latterâs protests. Still, Patton took the offer, and stood up, keeping their hands together for a few more moments before detaching.
âWhat did you have in mind, Blossom?â Roman continued.
Patton beamed at Roman as he walked over to the messy desk strewn with projects and scratch paper covered in doodles. âI canât be all three of the Powerpuff Girls, Ro-ro,â he teased.
âHm, true,â Roman mused, walking up behind Patton. âYouâll just be Bubbles then.â
âYou can be Blossom!â Patton grinned at Roman. âVirgil can be... Buttercup.â
âWouldnât that better fit Specs, though?â Roman queried. âVee can be Bliss.â
âWhoâs Bliss?â Patton looked back at Roman, quizzical.
Roman gasped. âYou donât know Bliss?â
âIs she from the reboot?â
âYeah, her powers are really hard to control and are connected to her emotions. Super anxious about them, you know...â Roman waved a hand vaguely. â...destroying everything.âÂ
Patton hummed before turning back to the desk. âHonestly, that does sound like Virge,â he giggled.
Roman grinned. âGlad you agree.â
Patton lifted a stack of papers (it was hardly a stack, really, more like a small heap) to find his collection of CDs he moved temporarily (read: permanently) to Romanâs room in case he ever felt the need to listen to them while there. Under another stack of papers was Pattonâs portable CD player. He smiled and picked up his CDs first, picking through them to find the album he was searching for.
Roman rested his chin on Pattonâs shoulder. âWhat are you looking for?â
Patton suddenly came across what he was looking for, and brightened. He popped open the lid of the cover as well as the playerâs, and inserted the disc. Patton shut the lid, pressed play, and turned to Roman, basically shining.
âBasil Valdez,â Patton chirped, holding up the CD container to Romanâs face. âOne of my dadâs favorite singers, as well as mine. I havenât been able to listen to him much since I moved here.â
The music started up, and the deep voice of Basil Valdez emanated from the playerâs speakers.
Rivers belong where they can ramble
Roman perked up. Wait, wasnât that...?
Eagles belong where they can fly (Rivers belong where they can ramble)
Patton noticed the look on his boyfriendâs face. âRo? Whatâs up?â
Roman looked back at Patton, eyes wide. âPatton, is that what I think it it?â
âWhat?â
Iâm not a river or a giant bird that soars to the sea But if Iâm tied to anything, Iâll never be free
Roman glowed, a large grin forming on his face. âPatton, heâs singing Corner of the Sky!â
âYeah, why-â
âThatâs from Pippin, the musical by the brilliant Stephen Schwartz!â
âIt is?!â Patton exclaimed, incredulous. That was a new piece of information!
âIt is rather different though,â Roman noted, his hand on his chin. âI donât seem to recognize these words.â
âIt is a cover,â Patton said, shrugging.
Everything has its season Everything has its time
âOh, I know this part!â Roman gleefully stated, confidence building up in him. âShow me a reason, and Iâll show you a rhyme!â
Patton watched lovingly as Roman sang his heart out to the lyrics. The energy he was giving off seemed to flow through the room, blanketing everything that dared witness it, Patton included.
Cats sit on the window sill Children sit in the snow Why do I feel I donât fit in Anywhere I go?
âRivers belong where they can ramble!â Patton suddenly interjected. âEagles belong where they can fly!â
Roman laughed, and held out his hand for the second time that night, this time with a different invitation. And this time there were no protests or hesitation. Patton took it right away, and was immediately swept into a dance.
Iâve got to be where my spirit can run free Got to find my corner of the sky
The dance was sporadic, with no real direction. The two held each other and twirled around the room, keeping in time with the instrumental. Laughs sounded as one spun the other around, as they jumped and hopped from one point of the room to the other.
Every man has his daydreams Every man has his goal People like the way dreams have Of sticking to the soul
Thunderclouds have their lightning Nightingales have their song And don't you see I want my life to be Something more than long...
Of course, they sang the song all the way through. Sometimes they would pause to laugh or just to catch a breather, but they would always continue. And Patton drank in every moment of that experience. How the music seemed to bound about the room like a cheerful dog, filling every crevice. How Roman was so graceful yet energetic. How his hair bounced and his eyes shone like stars. How Roman seemed to shine, to stand out to Patton. How beautifully their voices melded together.
And every move - every twirl, hop, jump, even every single simple step - brought Patton closer and closer to Nirvana.
Got to find my corner...
The song slowed down, and so did Roman and Patton.
of the...
The two grinned, basking in the presence of one another. They were together.
The music built back up again, and they simultaneously belted the last note:
âSKYYY!â
The song ended, and the two collapsed onto the bed. They let out breathy chuckles, and smiled at one another.
Roman took Pattonâs hand in his, and kissed his knuckles. âThank you for that, sweet Lilac. You are truly amazing.â
Patton blushed, and beamed wider. âIkaw din, aking diwata,â he responded.
Roman booped their noses together, and they both giggled. âWhat does that mean?â
âYouâll find out soon enough,â Patton assured, cuddling up to Roman.
âWith Youâ started playing, and the couple soon dozed off with peaceful smiles on their faces.

Flow Wrapping: Basics & Machinery
Food items to cosmetics, gadgets, etc., everything needs packaging to become ready for retail. Traditionally, glass, metals, and plastics have been popular packaging materials. However, today's industries demand customization and economical packaging solutions. That's when flexible packaging comes to the rescue. As the name implies, flexible packaging generally includes those materials that are non-rigid. One of the major examples of flexible packaging is flow wrappers.Â
What is flow wrapping?
Flow wrapping is a process in which the product moves in a horizontal conveyor belt and is then wrapped in a thin plastic film and sealed at the end by the machine. This setup is also known as the horizontal flow wrapping machine. These packaging films are also called flow wraps since they technically wrap around the products to form a bag/pouch/packet. Flow wrappers have gained significant popularity in food processing and other industries because of the following benefits:

These packaging films are also called flow wraps since they technically wrap around the products to form a bag/pouch/packet. Flow wrappers have gained significant popularity in food processing and other industries because of the following benefits:
Protects the product â Since the flow wrap packs the product closely, it allows minimal movement. Thus, the product inside the packet is not disturbed and stays intact in optimum storage conditions.
Fast production â The flow wrapping follows a simple form fill and seal mechanism, which makes the operation smooth and fast. It is ideal for high-volume production.
Easy customizability â The flow wrap can be clear, printed, or in a single colour, making them highly customizable.
Printability â Flow wrapper machines often come with photocells and print centering, which makes printed packaging easy.
Reduced wastage â Flow wrapping typically uses limited material, leaving no long tails and excessive wastage.Â
Flow wrapping machine
Horizontal flow wrapping machines are the ultimate life savers in most small to large food processing industries. This machine consists of a conveyor belt, a packaging and sealing machine, and a computer. A typical flow wrapping machine mechanism looks like this:
1.     Firstly, a conveyor belt feeds the product into the flow wrap machine.
2.     Secondly, the product is wrapped with a set material length and width (rectangular or square).
3.     Lastly, the ends are sealed or crimped to create a pouch/packet/pillow and then cut into individual packets.
Nowadays, electronic flow wrap machines have made the function easier by introducing computerized control. It allows you to print the packages simultaneously and offer several other customizations.Â
Conclusion
Today, most packets, including chips, biscuits, baked goods, and even non-food products, are packed with flow wrappers. It is reliable, fast, and economical. Twice reaction to their s/o cooking the breakfast in the morning
âWarnings: none
JihyoÂ
âWhat are you doing in here?â Sheâd come up behind you and wrap her arms around your waist. âWait, are you cooking me breakfast?â Sheâd release you, and smack you playfully on the arm as you carefully placed every food item onto the plate.Â
âHey, watch it! You almost made me drop some yogurt.â Youâd laugh at the childish pout on her face. âCutie, whatâs the problem?â She wouldnât respond to you right away. Instead, she would simply slap your arm (in a weak way).Â
âI wanted to be the one to cook you breakfast.â
âToo bad.â
âYah! Youâre so rude to me!â Sheâd say as she let out a fake cry. You softened a little at the sight.
âI-Iâm sorry, cutie.â She looked up at you with her sunshine smile on her face.
âIâm only messing with you, (Y/N). You know I love you.â
Jungyeon
Following the wonderful scent, Jungyeon marched straight into the kitchen and towards the food, pushing you aside. âYou are so incredibly beautifulâŚâ Sheâd mutter to the food as she picked up a nearby fork and shoveled a bit of bacon into her mouth. âYes, itâs so good!â She looked like she was about to cry.Â
âI-iâm glad you like it, Jungyeon.â Jungyeon smiled down at you and caressed the side of your face.Â
âMy dear (Y/N)âŚ.â The way your name slipped off of her tongue was enchanting. You loved the way she made it sound; almost like it was your boss telling you he was giving you a raise.Â
âJ-jungyeon.â You replied back to her. Her smile grew even wider at your response. She could see the hearts in your eyes, and god⌠you looked absolutely adorable to her.
âYouâre going to clean this all up, right?â
NayeonÂ
âWhatcha doing?â Nayeon would come up from behind you and peeked over your shoulder. âAre you cooking? I didnât know you could cook!â Sheâd jump up and down as her eyes lit up. In that moment, she was the most child-like you had ever seen her as. âCan I try some?â
âIn a moment. Itâs not done yet, Nayeon, be patient.â Youâd laugh. While the eggs cooked, you prepared some of her most favorite tea, setting our her favorite cup with a few biscuits on the side.Â
âYou sure know how to please a girl.â Nayeon would say with awe written all over her face. You couldnât help but smile at that. You loved impressing her; she always wore the most adorable expressions when you did.
âOnly because youâve lectured me about it every five minutes.â
âYah!â
Dahyun
You tore open the wrapper, removing the chocolate and placing it into the pot. âLet the chocolate melt in the pot, mixing it every few seconds.â As you read the instructions out loud, you copied exactly what it asked you to do. âMix, mix, mixâŚâ While mixing, you didnât realize a certain someone had walked into the kitchen. They stood at the island in the center of the room, making sure that they werenât in your way. A look of amusement and curiosity flashed in their eyes. Were you trying to cook them breakfast?
âCut off the stem and nothing more.â You said as you chopped off every stem on the strawberries. âI hope she likes what Iâve prepared for her.â Finishing it off with a nice cup of milk, you place everything on a tray and turn around, taking a few steps before noticing the figure in front of you. Startled, you slip, fall, and drop the tray with everything falling onto the floor.Â
âOh no, (Y/N)! Are you okay?â Dahyun runs over to you and makes sure you arenât hurt.
âYeah, Iâm fine.â You say with a restrained voice. âBut the breakfast I had prepared for you..â
âItâs okay, (Y/N). We can just go out to eat!â You nod at her in understanding. Youâre a little disappointed that the meal you had made her was ruined, but accidents happen.
âAlso, chocolate for breakfast? Thatâs not very healthy.ââ
âSays the person who ate five chocolate bars yesterday for dinner.â
Chaeyoung
The plate you held was aligned with many different fruits and vegetables. A fine cheese spread was displayed in a circular pattern in the very center of the plate, something you had to spend minutes on due to how shaky your hands were. It was the first time you had ever prepared breakfast for Chaeyoung, and you were honestly very nervous.Â
Setting the plate down on the bedside table, you gently shook Chaeyoung awake. âChaeyoung⌠wake up, silly! Iâve prepared some food for you.â Groggily, Chaeyoung sits up. Her eyes are still closed and her hair is a mess. She doesnât say anything to you. Instead, she simply open her eyes halfway and looks up at you. Catching onto what sheâs trying to tell you, you pick up a slice of banana and pop it into her open mouth. She lets out a simple hum of content before proceeding to open up her mouth again. You repeat this process a few more times, allowing her to take her time waking up.
âYouâre the best. Everything I couldâve asked for in someone.â
Sana
Instead of only you preparing the food, both you AND Sana made breakfast. While you worked on the hashbrowns, she worked on the eggs, cooking them to perfection. She tried to sneak a bit of her most favorite hot sauce into the eggs, but you caught her and took it away from her. Sana managed to finish before you, so while you cooked, she stood off to the side, admiring the look of concentration on your face.
âAll done!â You said with a happy tone. Sana dished out the hashbrowns and eggs onto two plates. However, before she could pick them up, you stopped her and did it yourself.Â
âWhat- You know I can carry them just fine.â Sana said with confusion laced into her words.
âI wouldnât say that.â Sanaâs frown deepened at your words. She was confused. What made you think that?
âIâm sorry⌠what?â You gave out a long sigh.
âIn the past few days, weâve broken over thirty plates, and need I remind you who broke them?â
âNever mind, you can get the plates.â
âThatâs what I thought.â
Mina
Mina was practicing a dance for the next Twice comeback in the other room. While she was distracted, you thought it was the perfect moment to cook her something good for breakfast (instead of going out to eat like you two had for the past few⌠well, forever). You washed the rice before placing it into the cooker. Grabbing the bok choy from the fridge, you sliced it up, throwing the bits of bok choy into a bowl of vegetables right after. You hummed Signal while stir-frying the vegetables, happy with how well the entire process was going.Â
Little did you know, Mina was done practicing, and upon coming out of her room, she was greeted with a lovely scent. Following the scent out into the kitchen, she found you, humming along to one of her songs while hovering over a pan. She smiled at the sight; she had never seen you this happy before.
Once the food was set, you put everything onto a plate and began walking towards her practice room. Completely entranced in your own little world, you didnât notice Mina was standing right beside you. You walked down the hallway until you reached the familiar room, but when you opened it, you noticed she wasnât in there. âMina?â You called out.
âRight here.â She said as she came up behind you. Startled, you nearly drop the plate, but luckily Mina was there to catch it. She gives you a soft smile as she looks up at you. âThanks for the meal. Iâll be sure to pay you backs sometime with one of my own.â As she walks off, a light blush dusts your cheeks and a smile forms.Â
âYou sneaky devil.â
Momo
âIâm so tired.â Momo would whine as she stumbled her way towards your figure, resting her head against your shoulder once she did. âCarry me.â
âI canât right now. Iâm cooking you breakfast.â You said with a laugh. Momo was always like this in the morning; she was more clingy than usual, and she complained. A lot. Giving the slices of beef a few more tosses in the frying pan, you cooked the meal to perfection, making sure the food was good enough for Momoâs praising. Momo watched you with delight. She absolutely loved watching you work hard at anything. Seeing you put all of your love into a meal for her made her day.
âOuch!â She was brought out of her thoughts by your loud cry of pain. Confused and startled, she looks around the room, trying to find where the sound came from. When her eyes land on you, she notices your finger is in your mouth, and she instantly becomes worried.Â
âAre you okay?â Momo asks, taking your finger into her hand and wrapping her fingers around it.
âYeah, I just burned myself on the stove.â A blush makes its way onto your cheeks as you look into her eyes.
âBe more careful next time, okay? If this is what you get for making me breakfast, then I donât want you making me food anymore, alright?â Momo tells you as she bandages up your finger. In that moment, you had fallen even more for her.
If that was even possibleâŚ
Tzuyu
As Tzuyu slept soundly, you woke up, got up, and headed to the kitchen. Since Tzuyu always wakes up early, you had to wake up extra extra early in order to avoid her. Ever so quietly, you got out a pan, a pot, and a serving plate. You knew you had to hurry, so you got everything prepared beforehand in order to make the process faster.Â
Chopping away at a few vegetables, you began to wonder when Tzuyu woke up. You knew she woke up early since she was always up at the crack of dawn, but you didnât know what time she woke up. Deciding that you should hurry up just in case, you chopped faster. Once the chopping was done, you threw the vegetables and chicken into a pan and sauteed it. In the pot, you began to cook some ramen. Yes, this wasnât the most healthiest of breakfasts, but it was cooked with love, something the local diners could not give her.Â
The cooking was done, and now all you needed to do was put the food on a plate, take it to the bedroom, and place it down on the bedside table before Tzuyu woke up. You decided to add a few touches of salt and pepper in order to bring out the flavor of the dish. Before you could take it to her room, however, a voice suddenly speaks up from behind you.
âTrying to surprise me, huh?â A string of curse words flow from your mouth as you realize who it is. Turning around, you flash her an innocent smile.
âI donât know what youâre talking about.â You say this, but the stains on your shirt say otherwise. Instead of saying anything, Tzuyu comes up and gives you a hug.
âThank you⌠jagiâŚâ
