Easter Flowers by Benjamin Noblitt Via Flickr: Back on Easter Sunday of 2021 we spent the day at my mom's house. We had family in town so we spent a bit of the day just hanging out and visiting. My mom has always had quite the green thumb so her and Dennis have kept the house fully stocked with flowers. Flowers in the garden, flowers on the patio, flowers in hanging baskets, etc. There was this small little flower that was sitting near the entrance of the house in this little pot on the ground that I thought was pretty interesting. Coincidentally, I just so happened to have my camera gear in the car with me. This is fairly rare since I almost never have my camera gear just sitting in the car - its either in the house or we are out on a photo-specific trip. I must have either planned on using it or just finished using it? I'm not sure. Either way, I decided to bust out the camera gear and attempt to photograph this little flower. Fortunately this little guy was in the shade, so no harsh shadows or hotspots to deal with. Somewhat unfortunately though, was that it was oh-so-slightly windy and a little bit dark in the shade. This meant that I had to use a slightly slower shutter speed for proper exposure and just had to hope I timed it well enough to avoid any motion blur from the wind. I set up my composition for a simple photo stack. I rattled off a few different stacks with the hopes that one of them would have enough sharp frames to get the image that I was looking for. As you can see here, one of them turned out! The image that I liked ended up being composed of two flowers lined up front to back. I focused on the front one in the foreground and then had the second one be the blurred out background. Its a little bit abstract, but I do like it that way. It looks like I shot a stack of 100 images but only used 45 to make this photo. Given the already narrow depth of field of this image, the individual images where extremely narrow! Since this is only a stack with no panorama, it is the same size as a standard 45.4 megapixel image out of my D850. I have tried to do focus stacked panos of very small subjects (macro photography), and its a really mixed bag for me. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and its hard to predict the outcome. Either way, I am happy with this photo and I hope you all can enjoy it just as much as I do.

Both images focus stacked with ChimpStackr, free open source software usable on Linux, Windows, Mac. These are pretty lame compared to the example images on github, but I just went out this morning to find a test subject by road side. First is 28 images and second is 26.
These are done with a Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar 50mm (M42 helicoid for macro), and focus rail on a tripod but wind was moving flowers a fair bit. I think I should have come up higher on second one too. Software is very easy and fast to use. Select files to load, click go. Export finished image and adjust levels/colour in Darktable.
All my photos are processed in Darktable on Linux and have been since 2008. I bow not to the Adobe/Microsoft monster no matter how much they try to entice me.

So, while I am happy that Sinners is/has been receiving so much love and acclaim, drawing in a big fanbase and such, a discussion needs to be had. While I normally don't go telling people what to write, there's something deeply unsettling about how certain fics for Sinners are being made. While I don't necessarily mind Remmick fics, as I see the appeal, it's deeply uncomfortable to hear about some writers creating a Remmick x reader, who is the daughter of a slave owner, or having the reader be a part of the Klan (this is wild just to say alone). Sinners features a predominantly Black cast and has a large Black fanbase, some of whom can be found on Tumblr, so imagine this being the case and coming on to this app and seeing someone write such a thing. That, on top of how many instances there are with the Black characters, who are the main characters, being pushed out or written in ways that go past mischaracterization to borderline dehumanizing/stereotypical (the Sammie/Remmick fics being in more abundance than Sammie/Pearline, who often gets ignored or is villainize....tale old as time, but disheartening none the less). Don't even get me started on the incest fics. There's something deeply disturbing about, again, a predominantly Black movie with majority Black characters, being, not only, misinterpreted but also sidelined for the minor white characters, especially when Black people already struggle with attempting to get representation as a community in fandom spaces, let alone on the big screen. And for a movie like Sinners, which holds deep historical ties within the narrative, it makes it even worse to see.

Okay, so, it's not like we don't have this problem all the time, but the week we spent with literally 87 books on the back ledge of our couch did not help. Welcome to our neurodivergent polycule finish a book challenge.
