that wouldn't really work aslo is a full monster (half boss). aslo more so represents Asriel and Asgore's poor naming conventions. (Asriel is a combo of Asgore and Toriel)

its a nice thought tho! by your logic if chara were to have a kid they'd be name Manny (human) or Monty (monster) since they're not human anymore

someone else asked about when you think Chara fell and adjacent thoughts about the UT timeline and it got me wondering: how old do you think the characters are? I’m of the opinion that a lot of monsters we come across are closer to human ages, though I know there are probably incongruities with actual canon if that’s the case

I'm the same as you, actually! my take is something like "developmental times are the same up to adulthood, monsters just live longer once fully developed (i was thinking 40-50 years age range) and die later compared to humans".

as for the main characters, my headcanons are roughly

papyrus: 20 (coolskeleton95)

undyne: 24 (strongfish91)

sans: 32 (28 in deltarune)

alphys: 27 (just vibes)

mettaton: uhhhh ghost. he's been a robot for 1-2 years so far though

toriel: mid 40s when she stopped aging, several centuries old by now, but not quite a millennium yet, maybe in her 700s

asgore: same as toriel, but he was a couple of years younger than her before they stopped aging

chara: 11 when they fell, 13 when they died, but they spent more time with the dreemurrs than it seems via resets, which is why they were so attached to them even if only two years had passed

asriel: died at 12, spent a LOT of time resetting and exploring his newfound powers as flowey, but it didn't exactly contribute much to his development from a psychological and mental perspective. I'd say he's a bit closer to being mentally 13-14 by the time we meet him in canon, but nonetheless, he is EXTREMELY immature, and still obviously a kid

I did not quite understand. Why did Asriel stop growing up? How it works?

(This was something I sorta invented specifically so that Asriel would remain a kid between Frisk's arrival and Chara's.)

The basic idea is that since: 1. monster magic is very emotion- and intent-dependent, and 2. boss monsters only age as their children grow (sorta lending their life force and magic to their kids) — then Asgore and Toriel having a falling out (their family connection breaking) would mess up the whole aging process for their family unit. Consequently, Asriel only starts aging again when his parents reconcile.

Frisk is wearing an all-black button-up cardigan closed halfway. Underneath is a purple t-shirt with the Delta Rune logo in white like Toriel's dress, only slightly visible. They're wearing white sneakers. For legwear, wearing a knee-length flared skirt of any dark color that fits the rest of the outfit. They also have a bag between their right arm and body, with the strap on the shoulder. There are three badges on the bag: one with the non-binary flag, one with the asexual flag and one that's the Mercy button, much like the real-life one from Fangamer (www.fangamer.com/collections/undertale/products/undertale-mercy-or-fight-enamel-pin-set). Finally, accessories: a small non-brand band-aid on the left cheek and a silver heart locket around their neck.

Chara is wearing a black hoodie closed all the way, but slightly peeking out from the bottom is green fabric similar to what they wore in game. The hoodie has a badge for the transgender flag and a badge with a red heart, much like your soul in UT, on the right side. They're wearing brown/beige chino pants with a slightly faded color, signifying use. They're also wearing black sneakers, much like Frisk. They're wearing a brown backpack with the right strap on their right arm, hanging loosely. For accessories, they're wearing a gold heart locket around their neck, matching with Frisk.

The scene takes place on a road in a walkable city. The road has lines of trees on the sides, but from the camera's perspective, only one row of trees is visible. Furthermore, there is a road behind the line of trees. No one else is on the road.

I'd also like to mention their bodies. Neither of them have any prominent sex characteristics, so no breasts and no facial/body hair. Hey yeah so now it's official. Fallen Royalty lives on as a Visual Novel named New Royals. I'll still be posting updates here as well.

[id: Frisk, Asriel and Chara rest next to each other on a white background. The page is predominantly white. I've thought long and hard about this... I've decided to discontinue the comic. I want to reboot it as a visual novel. NEW ROYALS will be how this story will be continued, and some day, concluded. There's many reasons to why I've decided to follow this path going forward. I want to see these characters come to life and at their fullest. This comic started as an askblog on Tumblr. This version started as a redraw. But I want to start this story fresh and untied to the 6 year old original. The reboot will tell the same story but will have a stronger foundation and pacing. I want the premise of: “Everybody lives, see how the fallen children grow up” I feel it loses it’s impact with Asriel as a teenager. While I still feel Asriel growing up faster because Of his time as Flowey is a powerful narrative, I feel that story can be told without that metaphor. I would like to give the kids more time to be the same age and have more down time. The original (and redraw by extension) runs too quickly from plot point to plot point. Life changing event to life changing event. Character lose focus and screentime because the plot needs to move forward. It’s a problem that has put chapter 3 in a tough position to write. I feel a fresh start is necessary. And while I could just start the comic again, I would prefer it to be less confusing to explain. I already am making a fangame and know how to code decently. I would like to see what this can be like as a game, And realistically I have to chose one way to tell this story. So I chose the visual novel and the reboot. I hope you all can understand and stick with me as we start this journey over again One last time... text ends, showing the kids happy and drawn in color. id end.]

TWIN RUNES - FAQ

What exactly is this AU about? Twin Runes is essentially a comedic crossover AU between the universes of Deltarune and Undertale. No fancy nicnacs. Just the characters being their chaotic selves. But there might be some darkness lurking up ahead... ____________________

When is the next comic? The comic updates most Sundays at 6:30 PM Central European Time. ____________________

Why is this AU called Twin Runes? The name is more or less a play on the typical naming format of most AU's by featuring the "Runes" part. There are no literal Twin Runes. The whole name is more of a stand in for Undertale and Deltarune as parallel worlds. Hence the "Twin" part. ____________________

When does Twin Runes take place? This AU takes place between a hypothetical Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 of Deltarune. On the Undertale side of things, it takes place post neutral route just as Frisk was about to deliver Undyne's letter to Alphys.

How many pages are there going to be? The script for this comic estimates that the comic is going to be 137 pages long (if I don't make any major changes). ____________________

Is the Player a thing in this AU? The Player(s) lost control over both human children as soon as Frisk entered the world of Deltarune. Essentially, the reader takes the role of the Player. You have no influence on the outcome of the story anymore. All you can do is watch. ____________________

Is there going to be a Weird Route? Due to the lack of Player, all choices made by Kris are now their own. How to engage in battle all depends on Kris, and not the Player. Because of that, there are NO DIFFERENT ROUTES. There is only one route and that one is based on Kris' choices. Because of the lack of save points, there is no "what-if" scenario. ____________________

When Chapter 3 and 4 are released, will it affect the story? Any chapters after Chapter 3 won't affect the story in the grand scheme of things. Twin Runes created a new timeline so to speak. ____________________

How old are the characters in this story? Frisk appears to be around 9 years old. Kris thinks they're 14. (Both Frisk and Kris don't know their actual age.) Chara died when they were around 10-11. Susie is around 15-16 (she was held back once) Ralsei appears to be the same age as Kris. ____________________

What's up with Kris' and Frisk's hair? The red bits of their hair is more or less a representation of their souls. That in turn is also why Chara doesn't have that feature. They are soulless. It's a stylistic choice. ____________________

What's that thing on Kris' chest? It's a scar they got from tearing out their soul.

And why do they have weird lines all over their body? Both Kris and Frisk's anatomy resemble that of ball-jointed dolls. They appear just as markings across their bodies. Think of them as elaborate birthmarks. Kris and Frisk are still made of flesh and blood, but are in fact hypermobile. The reason as to why they do is still a little secret :) People here like to refer to these markings as "puppet limbs". You can get a better look at them and the scar in this artwork

Why does Kris have braces? This is why:

Why is Dark World Frisk green? Frisk changes their main sweater colors with Kris when they enter the Dark World.

Can other ghosts see Chara? (pre Darkner transformation) No, only Frisk and Kris are able to see Chara. ____________________

IS KRIS NOW FRISK'S COUNTERPART OR CHARA'S???? :) ____________________

So, was Chara in the locket all along? No, Chara possessed the locket to become a Darkner. ____________________

Where are Jevil and Spamton? Are they in Castle Town? The Fun Gang have already fought these two in the previous chapters and added them into their inventory. Outside of that little dream sequence, neither will be making an appearance. ____________________

Is anyone from Undertale Yellow gonna make an apperance? Outside of a tiny cameo from Clover (that has no greater bearing on the story) no one from Undertale Yellow is going to make an appearance. ____________________

Is (insert character here) gonna go to the Dark World/underground? With the way the story is going to play out, only the main group will be heading to this new Dark World. The rest of the story will be taking place there. ____________________

How did you come up with the idea of Twin Runes? Twin Runes is an offshoot of a separate script I wrote. It's a similar concept but turned on its head. The funny moments in that script made me just continue what now is the start of Twin Runes. I pretty much just wanted to see if I am actually capable of drawing a comic to begin with. So... in a way Twin Runes is my first attempt at a comic ever. If I ever finish Twin Runes, then I know I can tackle turning that mammoth project of a script into a comic too. In the grand scheme of things these two projects are sister series. They have A LOT in common and even share similar plot elements. When Twin Runes is over you will automatically also know certain mysteries of The Other Script. ____________________

What is The Other Script? As of this moment I call The Other Script: "Lost in the In-Between". At its core it's an inverse of Twin Runes. I.e. Kris falling into the underground and being aided by Frisk on their quest to return home. The story and jokes are a considerably more grounded than in Twin Runes and so are the characters. Though they do have their moments from time to time. The overall mood of that script is a lot darker in nature and it's a 200+ page passion project of mine. ____________________

Am I allowed to make fanart? ABSOLUTELY! You are very welcome to make fanart if you feel like it. After monsters were sealed underground, many fell into despair. They all had to grow up and face the reality—They'd never be free again.

It was dull, a hopeless and bland land. Monster children were forced to give up their childhoods to help research a way out, and the adults were stressed out of their minds.

Everything was so tense, so serious...

Until a human fell.

The human was a teen, messy brown hair with fair skin and soft pink eyes. Rosey cheeks and stress visible on their face.

Chara.

Their son Asriel found them, and brought them home. The human... acted childish, after they awoke. At first it confused the royal family, but not necessarily... made them feel bad?

No, no... if anything, it awakened a new sort of emotion in them.

Care, they wanted to care for them.

The human's SOUL was a soft pink, the same colour as their eyes. It had a warm glow.

Wonderous. It had the trait of Wonder.

And from that day forward,monster kind was shown a new way to cope.

Age regression, or dreaming. Petre as well, along with their caregivers. There suddenly wasn't such a rush to grow up, and everyone seemed more than happy to exist while enjoying the joys of youth.

Years went on, and while progress on a way to break the barrier was slow. It was much easier to handle, now that they had some sort of escape.

Extra lore under cut!

In AgereTale, age regression/dreaming, pet regression/dreaming, caregiving—It's all very much normalized! Shops that carry baby supplies also keep adult/teen sized little/middle gear!

Another thing, Monsters have hearts on their face, each meaning a different role!

Pink means the monster is an Age regressor!

Blue means the monster is a Pet regressor!

Purple means the monster is an Age dreamer!

Green means the monster is a pet Dreamer!

And yellow means they're a caregiver/babysitter!

Monsters can have all five at once, or a mixture of various colours!

The hearts come and go as suited. So a monster that recently became a caregiver will have a yellow heart appear on their face!

Here's an example of having all five hearts, like Papyrus!

Also, the fallen human Frisk is a teen as well! And they also have the pink trait, Wonder!
