Sweet Home Indiana Part 1
Hello! And welcome to this fun little fusion that I came up with here. If anyone can find the post about gay legal troubles after gay marriage was legalized (I think was originally about polyamory divorces) let me know so I can link here, too.
Summary: Eddie is a successful tattoo artist in Seattle and is engaged to be married to Chrissy. Only there is one problem. Well, technically three. You see, back before the Supreme Court ruled that gay marriage was a right and not a privilege Eddie had gotten married in a couple of different states to different people. But now that's it's legal, he's a bigamist and he has to get his exes to divorce him. Which is easy enough for two of the three, not so much for the third. You see the third just isn't just any ex, it's the ex. Steve Harrington. So now he has to go down to Hawkins and try to convince the person he thought he was going to spend his life with to divorce him. Something much easier said then done, especially when Eddie finds himself falling back in love.
EDDIE IS GAY IN THIS BUT THERE ARE REASONS OKAY!
****
Eddie’s life was good. Let it be said that it was really good. He knew that. But he had regrets. Didn’t everyone?
He regretted how his band broke up. It wasn’t his fault, but he hadn’t seen the cracks when they had started to show. He hadn’t seen how tired Jeff was getting or how fucked Gareth was. He hadn’t seen that Brian was only phoning it in every night.
So when it all fell apart after a concert in Seattle, he was left holding the pieces of his band and his broken heart. He had gotten a job as a tattoo apprentice and had worked really hard to get his own chair.
He had friends. Good ones. Jeff had stayed in Seattle, too. Gareth had gone into rehab and had moved to a small village in the south of France. Brian had gotten married and moved back to Indiana where he became a teacher and lived a quiet life. The life he had always wanted.
Then there was Chrissy. He loved her so much. They had met when she came into the tattoo parlor to get a tattoo covered. She wanted to cover the name of her ex-boyfriend with a purple violet. Eddie had smiled at her when she asked.
It was some of his best work, if he was honest.
She was a legal assistant that had just gotten her paralegal degree and was trying to get a work visa.
She had come over to the USA from Barbados. A little island country in the Caribbean.
He didn’t know how she could stand living in damp Seattle after being born on sun-soaked shores under glistening palm trees. But Chrissy was adamant that she loved being in Washington where it rained almost all the time.
Eddie was on a mission. One that he had sworn to Chrissy that he would do today.
He walked into the county clerk’s office and applied for a marriage license for him and Chrissy.
“I’m sorry Mr. Munson,” the clerk told him, “but our records show that you have not one, not two but three marriages in three different states.”
Eddie’s eyes went wide.
“What?” He would remember that, surely.
“To a William Hargrove in Hawaii, a Thomas M. Hagan in New York, and Steven J. Harrington in Massachusetts,” the woman said, holding up her reading glasses in front of her face to read off the list.
“But those were only legal in the state they were preformed in, right?” he asked, furrowing his brow in confusion.
The woman shook her head. “Not since the Supreme Court ruled that it was legal for gays to get married. It’s cause a lot of trouble for a lot you people, let me tell you.”
Eddie knocked his knuckle on the counter and licked his lips. “Shit.”
She grimaced sympathetically. “I’m sorry, but before you can get a marriage license in the state of Washington, you’ll have to provide divorce decrees from all three of your exes.”
Eddie pounded on the counter this time with his open palm. “Thanks.”
He walked away and he heard her call out, “Next!”
Shit, shit, shit.
This was going to be hell, he could feel it.
****
Chrissy had fast food waiting for him when he got home from work.
“Did you get the license?” she asked, handing him his food and drink.
Eddie buried his head in his hands. “No, because stupid gay marriage legalization made all gay marriages legal, no matter what state you preformed them in.”
“Oh.”
She sat down hard. “So your three marriages suddenly count?”
“Yeah,” Eddie murmured. “I don’t even know where any of them are. Like I assume Steve’s still in Hawkins, because he’d never leave, but the other two? I have no fucking idea.”
She patted him on the shoulder and said, “We’ll find a way. The law firm has investigators on staff for this very reason. It might take a while, but we’ll find them.
Eddie nodded. “I’m sorry.”
She wrapped her arms around his neck and sat down on his lap. “I’m not. You didn’t know. Otherwise you would have taken care of it when Obergefell v. Hodges went through the Supreme Court.”
Eddie nodded, but he pursed his lips, his hands up around her waist to hold her steady.
“Let’s just eat and I’ll start work on it tomorrow,” she murmured. “Okay?”
“Mmk,” he muttered.
****
Three weeks later, Eddie had in hand two of the three annulments. Billy had sent his back with a little note that said, “With pleasure.” Tommy had merely sent his back without comment.
That was a relief. He was no longer bound to either of those two assholes. He wasn’t even sure what possessed him to marry them in the first place.
Well, okay. He did. He was far away from home, lonely and willing to connect with anyone who would fuck him.
He was getting ready to call Chrissy to her the good news when the phone rang under his hand.
Eddie frowned at it for a moment, before he picked it up.
“Hello?”
“Eddie? Eddie Munson?” the familiar voice sounded through the cell phone.
“This is he,” he replied, still confused.
“If you want to divorce me, you asshole,” Steve spat, “then have the fucking courage to tell me to my face.”
“Steve?” Eddie asked, his confusion still there, but for a different reason now. How did he get his number?
“Yeah,” Steve hissed. “Remember me? The man you left for fame and fortune? How is that going, by the way?”
Eddie gritted his teeth. “You know full well we broke up, I know Dustin still talks to you.”
He could hear Steve snap his fingers. “That’s right. You broke up. And until you tell me to my face you want to do the same, you take your annulment and shove it up your ass.”
“Stevie...” Eddie pleaded.
“Don’t ‘Stevie’ me,” Steve growled. “Fuck you.”
And the phone went dead then Eddie turned his phone around to see that yes, Steve had disconnected the call.
“Fuck.”
****
Eddie called Chrissy with the news. Two yeses and a ‘fuck you’.
“All right, Ed,” she said. “There is more to this than you’ve been telling me, so you are coming over to my apartment with the annulments you got and you are going to spill. Capeesh?”
“Yes, ma’am.”
“Good,” she huffed and then hung up.
Looked like today was hang up on Eddie day. He sat down at the table both annulments spread out in front of him and buried his head in his hands.
After a few minutes of allowing himself to break down, he picked up the papers and grabbed his keys, wallet, and cell phone.
Time to face the music.
****
Chrissy opened the door with a scowl, but softened when she saw how miserable Eddie looked.
He handed her the annulments and she put them her bag to take to work so that they could be filed with county clerk.
“Tell me about Steve Harrington.”
So Eddie did.
He told her about how they had bonded over a bunch of kids. Kids Steve had used to babysit, but once they got into high school came under Eddie’s wing as leader and DM of the D&D club called The Hellfire Club. How they had gotten together and when Massachusetts made it legal, him, Steve, Jeff, and Steve’s best friend Robin all drove out to Boston and Steve and he got married in a little court house.
“My Uncle Wayne was pissed he wasn’t there,” Eddie said. “But it was spur of the moment thing. We drove all night and got there that afternoon. We put on little suits and let the judge say his words.”
“That sounds sweet, so what happened?”
He let out a shuddering sigh. “Gareth graduated from high school and we got an offer to record an album in New York.”
“Why didn’t he go with you?” she asked gently.
Eddie rubbed his nose. “Because the kids still had two years left of school. He wanted to be there for them. A couple of them didn’t have good home lives and he wanted to make sure they had someone they could count on. We fought about it. Hard.”
“I’m sorry, cher,” she whispered giving his arm a squeeze.
“God,” Eddie said, his voice cracking. “The things we said to each other. It was bad, Chris.”
“And now he won’t sign the papers?” she asked.
He shook his head. “He told me the only way he’d sign anything is I came back to Hawkins and handed it to him myself.”
Chrissy nodded. “All right,” she said, “here’s what we’re going to do. I’m going to get a proper divorce degree written up, making sure it’s worded so he knows you won’t be going after any assets he has and then you are taking a week off of work and going down there and facing him. Because holy fucking hell, Ed, he deserves some kind of closure as do you.”
Eddie let out a heartbreaking sigh. “I don’t know if I can face him, Chris. God, I put everything else before him and broke his heart. He always wanted this big wedding. A beautiful reception where all our friends and loved ones were there. A beautiful grey morning jacket with a proper boutonniere and saying his vows across from the one he loved. And instead he got an empty court house and broken promises from a screw up like me.”
She wrapped her arms around him and let him sob into her shoulder.
“Which is why you need to go down there and give him that closure,” she murmured, “so that he can have all that with someone else. Someone who isn’t afraid.”
Eddie nodded. “Yeah, just let me know when it’s ready and I’ll take one of my vacation weeks to go to Hawkins, Indiana.”
Chrissy winced. “Maybe don’t sound like you’re going to your funeral, yeah?”
Eddie scoffed and rolled his eyes. As far as he was concerned he was going to a funeral. Maybe not his own, but the death of the first real relationship he ever had and if somehow he made it out alive, he was never going to be the same again.

With the kindness of strangers, they were able to escape.
“They were taken in by strangers, even housed in a barn along the route of their escape.”
They were refugees, fleeing for their safety, fleeing for their lives, trying to find a new life.
The war-torn country they were living in had been invaded, and they knew they had to get out.
Fortunately, according to the National Endowment for the Humanities, the couple were able to obtain Brazilian passports.
Others trying to escape to the United States, like Anne Frank and her family never made it that far, according to the History Channel, hindered by “American bias against accepting . . . refugees”, which halted most immigration from Europe.
But, first they had to get out.
“On May 10, 1940, Adolf Hitler sent three million troops through the Low Countries into France, according to the Smithsonian. “Parisians fled by the hundreds of thousands before the Germans captured their city on June 14. Among them a young couple, German Jews who had been living in Paris for just four years. They had waited too long. There wasn’t a car or a bicycle left in the city. The husband bought every spare part he could find and built two bikes from scratch. At 5:30 on the morning of June 12, they rode out of Paris with a monkey hidden in the basket.”
Although the couple had previously owned two marmoset monkeys, they did not have an actual live monkey in their basket.
Writer Sarah Stewart Taylor explains further, after the couple got aboard the train:
Hans Reyersbach and his wife, Margarete Waldstein “tried to remain calm as the official came through the train car packed with refugees fleeing Nazi-occupied France and asked for identity papers. When the official saw the stacks of papers inside Hans’s bag, he became immediately suspicious.
“But when Hans . . . pulled out a manuscript for a children’s book entitled ‘The Adventures of Fifi’ . . . the official smiled and passed them by.
“Nearly a year later, after a harrowing wartime escape and journey to the United States”, the couple were able to publish their book “about a mischievous and curious monkey who was always getting into trouble.”
Immigrants Hans Reyersbach and his wife, Margarete Waldstein, used pen names and changed the monkey’s name. Their pen names were H. A. and Margret Rey and the monkey’s name was changed per their publisher to reflect a more American name. “Curious George” would become “one of the most popular children’s books of the 20th century.”
This is a new story for the Peace Page.
~~~~~
According to Taylor, “The Reys were living in Paris when World War II began on September 1, 1939. As news of the Nazis’ advance through Belgium and Holland reached Paris, the Reys began to accept that, as German Jews, they were in danger and would have to leave their adopted country. They were able to secure updated Brazilian passports and collect what they would need for the trip.”
“The Reys boarded a train for Spain in Orleans, France on June 14, 1940, the day the Nazis marched into Paris. On June 23, they arrived in Lisbon. Three months later, after a stay in Rio de Janeiro to secure visas, the Reys arrived in New York. They would live the rest of their lives in their adopted country.”
“The Reys were taken in by strangers, even housed in a barn along the route of their escape. They arrived in New York with almost no money, with their main luggage gone,” according to Rivka Galchen of The New Yorker.
“Little was publicly known about the Reys’ wartime experiences until a 2005 book, ‘The Journey That Saved Curious George,’ written by Louise Borden and illustrated by Allan Drummond. A journal entry of H. A. Rey’s from 1940 included in that book tells us something of Hans’s temperament: Work was going “very slowly on account of events,” he noted, of the week the Nazis breached the French border. A letter of intent to publish ‘Curious George’ from the English publisher Chatto & Windus specifies plans to publish the book barring any international ‘incident involving force majeur.’ And later, a 1944 New Year’s card written from New York reads, ‘Let us think of the future; that’s where we shall spend the rest of our lives.’”
~~~~~
“So far 75 million copies of the Curious George books have been sold worldwide in over a dozen languages,” according to writer Jeff MacGregor.
“You can find the day-to-day, even hour-by-hour notations of their escape in Hans’ meticulous notebooks, saved at the University of Southern Mississippi, in a collection that bears the couple’s pen names: H. A. and Margret Rey.”
“A series of lectures and programs sponsored by the Rey Center and the New Hampshire Humanities Council has put the Reys and their work in the larger context of American history and children’s literature, focusing on U.S. immigration policy,” according to the National Endowment for the Humanities.
“The Wartime Escape: Margret and H. A. Rey’s Journey from France” has attracted a lot of national attention, says Audrey Eisenhauer, executive director of the Rey Center. “This has opened it up to the world,” says Louise Borden of the exhibit. “It has let people know about these perilous times and made them imagine a world without Curious George.”

The relative few children in Gaza who have been able to get out for treatment have ended up in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Italy, France, Malta and the United States, among other countries. But not the United Kingdom.
British doctors and charities, including Kandiah's, who are part of an initiative called Project Pure Hope, told Middle East Eye that they began efforts in January to bring four siblings and their cousin from Gaza as a "test case" to see what would happen.
Three of the siblings, whose parents were killed, had suffered traumatic amputations and required further medical treatment, which pediatric hospitals across Britain were prepared to provide.
Over £500,000 ($636,000) was raised, enough to cover their treatment, and arrangements were made for the children's aunt and grandmother to accompany them, according to those involved.
The issue was visas.
"We literally were asking to bring a handful of children," said Dr Omar Abdel-Mannan, a British-Egyptian paediatric neurologist and founder of Health Workers for Palestine.
Abdel-Mannan has worked at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, one of the world's leading facilities treating children, during a time he said upwards of 100 Ukrainian children were being treated.
"The double standards are very clear for anyone to see. I'm sad to see my own NHS, which is helping patients day in and day out, is unable to do this, not because of [a lack of] willpower from medics, but at a political level," he said.

About citizenship post what if they don't know they're being used
How about they get married and after darling get citizenship she wants to divorce them?
I’ll be frank right now, dear reader: YOU AIN’T getting that divorce.
But let’s break down how that happens. (Also probably not my best work but here we go. I didn’t want this sitting in my ask box forever in purgatory)
America
You’re going to have to be a stellar actor/actress because that's a facade that will be difficult to maintain if you don’t love him. He does demand a lot of affection from you & just because he’s bubbly most of the time does not mean he lacks a bullshit detector.
Alfred will want to know what's up & why you’re being so cold towards him. If you’re unable to dispel his doubts, he’ll know that divorce is a possible outcome. Before you can even get to that, he’s going to play mind with you. He will be hot & cold. Alfred will say offhanded and unprompted things like:
“You know it's a shame that this one married partner here wasn’t able to naturalize since they divorced so soon… & it was later found out the marriage was fraudulent.” A playful hand wandered up your arm as he got close to your ear and said:
“Then they were arrested and deported.”
That sent fire to your ears. Fear rushes into your heart, making it run at high speed. An ice bucket splashed over your head, sending a shockwave down your spine.
‘Deported?’ Not after all of your hard work….effort…and being able to manage a man while fun to be around; you knew he had a terrifying underneath even though he doesn’t usually let it show.
“Living with you is like a daydream Y/N. I never want it to end.” As he places pointed kisses at your cheek.
He’s toying with you. Making sure you stay on edge.
If you do somehow manage to fool him long enough to get divorce papers served to him….OOOOOHHHH boy, there will be hell to pay. You’re going to be hunted down. Your lawyer who assisted you will be given an undisclosed sum to throw your case out & forget they ever met you.
England
When the papers have been served Arthur’s blood will be boiling like the water he uses to make his tea.
There are many factors to the visas but I’ll stick with the two that are the most important.
The Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) & the Spouse Visa.
You have to obtain the Spouse Visa first before you can obtain the (ILR) status.
Your ability to stay will be dependent on your marriage, and he will make sure that you don’t even know what your (ILR) status is. Arthur has always liked having the upper hand. He’ll maintain it by monitoring you constantly.
There will be trackers in your car, and he will keep close eyes on your browsing history, credit/debit card transactions, etc. He may even lightly interrogate you over afternoon tea if he feels you are beginning to stray away from him. Since you’re in a different country from all of your close bonds (friends, family, co-workers, etc.), isolation is relatively easy. He’s also going to demand that you spend more time with him so that the relationship can work. Depleting most if not all social time with others you have in England. You won’t have time to build bonds to talk to others and maybe catch red flags that would go unnoticed.
You will be blamed for any of the issues you have within your marriage or your feelings will be undermined.
“Y/N darling! You’re overreacting! It’s just a cat! We can always get another! You smothered it too much that’s why it’s run off!” He’ll kiss your forehead in an attempt to comfort you and then continue to tell you why you’re weak and failing to uphold your part in the marriage. Of course, he’s not going to take responsibility for the short comings in the relationship; that’s what he’s married you for.
And if you try to run away: Congrats his secret agents will be all over you within mere hours. It won’t be long till you’re brought back to him. Then it will be a long time before you see the light of day ever again.
France
He’d done all that he could so that getting a “visa de long sejour valant titre de sejour” (VLS-TS) was seamless & easy for you. Francis also ensured that you were aware of the renewal dates, had the money you needed, insurance, and whatever demands the French government had in order for you to stay in his country, he ensured you could meet them exceptionally. So when he receives divorce papers on his desk…tears, apologies, fancy dinners,  flowers, and make-up sex will be among his first line of defense to make you stay.
Francis will do anything for you to reconsider your decision to divorce.
He will interrogate you on what he’s not doing right.
Was their a habit that he had that displeased you? He can change!
Is it his performance in bed? He can do better! He can learn!
Not enough kisses to the neck and cheeks? He can do more!
What is it? He NEEDS to know!
Francis will corner you in the kitchen as you’re making your morning coffee.
“Y/N please….” He approaches you from behind and brings you into a hug. “What has made you this way? What did I do? Was it something I said?”
Francis is going to want to get to the bottom of what made you want the divorce. He will force you into couples therapy. Yes, it will be a therapist who has some unscrupulous morals. They’ll tell you why you should stay together and how the two of you are “Perfect” and “Soul Mates”. The therapist will gloss over any complaints you may have during the session & that you be okay with Francis’ Yandere tendencies.
Germany
12-Weeks, like all the others, is how long it will take to obtain your visa. You’d been fully integrated into his structured lifestyle that he’s slightly adjusted to accommodate you. Normally, he’s up at 5 am to go for his early morning jog to 6 am. He will help you make coffee just so you’d be able to get more accustomed to being up so early.
Since you must function within his rigid structure, you’ll have to be sneaky in various ways.
Emotionally, it's the delicate way you treat him, take care of him, make promises you keep or don’t keep, and hug and kiss him that matters. If subtle changes compound over time, he will inquire about them at some point if he feels that the changes have become too great. He will interrogate you about it while you’re vulnerable, like in his lap, and he has a death grip on your thighs.
Physically, I know I mentioned hugging and kissing already, but how intentional, how often, and how much passion there is? He will notice the lack when it comes to you not feeling it in bed. He will pause in whatever the two of you are doing & will ask “What’s wrong Y/N?” while his stony cold blues will pierce your eyes. If you don’t have a satisfactory answer you will be handcuffed to the bed as he will search the room for evidence of infidelity & divorce papers.

Hello, folks! I am Bhargav Modi from Edugo Abroad. At Edugo Abroad, we present the most recent and most dependable information about studying abroad.
On our YouTube channel, we regularly share tips, bits of knowledge, and updates to assist you with arriving at informed conclusions about your education and professional opportunities overseas.
Today, we are tending to a typical misconception, the off beam beliefs on studying, working, and settling in Europe. This could not possibly be more off-base! Europe offers open doors for Indian students to study, get work insight, and eventually secure permanent residency (PR).
So, let's explore the top 5 European countries where you can study, work, and settle successfully.
Let us start with France, the most popular country in Europe.
1. France
Study
France is a great place to opt for education because it has some of the best business schools and famous Grand Ecole programmes. These schools provide a rich learning environment by combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice through internships. France also has the most Triple Crown schools, which adds to its image as a place where people can get an excellent education.
Work
France is a great place to get professional training after studying because it is an excellent place to work. The country lets students work part-time, which helps them become financially independent and gives them experience. As graduates you can easily apply for a 2 year post-study work-based visa (APS), which can help you land good fashion, luxury, IT, and manufacturing careers.
Settle
There are good ways to settle in France, and you can apply for permanent residency (PR) within three to four years through the Blue Card system. The country is also suitable for families to settle in because spouses and children can accompany them once the principal applicant gets a job. Overall, France is becoming an appealing place for work, school, and long-term living.

Dear,
I hope you are well.
I am reaching out to ask for your help. My name is Imad Abunada, a Palestinian from Gaza currently pursuing a doctorate in France, focusing on Palestinian art and culture. I expect to complete my thesis in two years.
I work part-time to finance my studies, rent, and living expenses. My employer had promised to help my family obtain visas and bring them to France once they leave Gaza. To cover the costs requested by smugglers, I launched a Gofundme campaign and borrowed €30,000.
My family, consisting of 8 people, is now in Egypt without any income. They need $350 per month for rent, plus daily expenses, all of which I am trying to cover while repaying my debt, paying my rent, and financing my studies.
I kindly ask for your help in sharing and promoting my fundraising link. I am willing to provide any necessary documentation or proof you may need.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Sincerely, Imad ABUNADA

"Wake up", said your classmate, laughing at the faces you were making trying not to fall asleep.
You had been trying to pay attention all morning, but it was hard when you had barely been able to get any sleep the previous night. After the semifinal win for Argentina, in which your boyfriend Julián scored a brace, the adrenaline in your body made it impossible to fall asleep. And you also spent two hours on facetime with him once he was back in the hotel.
Because of university, you knew you couldn't go to Qatar from the beginning of the tournament but you really hoped to be there for the final if the team reached it. It was then that you were told there were visa problems that made it impossible for you to travel over there. The disappointment was hard to hide but you did your best. Julián had enough to worry about.
"Good luck", you heard your professor say when you walked past him on your way out of the classroom.
"Excuse me?"
"For the final", he added, pointing at the Argentina shirt you were wearing.
"Right. Thank you. We'll need it".
"I'm sure the little man will work his magic and get the cup. See you next year".
"See you then".
Not being able to go to Qatar meant you were travelling to Argentina a week earlier than you would have on a normal uni year. The team was going to travel there anyways and both you and Julián had plans to spend Christmas with your families in your hometown.
The two of you had known each other since you were babies. Born two months apart and being neighbours your entire life, even though you hated each other when you were kids. Everyone could tell the change in your relationship once you got a bit older and it was a couple of years ago that you proved their theories right by starting to date.
Now you have followed him to Manchester but not to Qatar. The last time you were away from each for so long was probably ten years ago. But the wait was almost over now. You were going to see him in a couple of days.
                                      **
"Another penalty?"
Your family house erupted with all types of colourful insults dedicated to the referee who had just given another penalty to France, which meant they equalized again and the match was ending in a penalty shootout.
Julián had already been taken off, so that meant he wasn't going to take any penalties. A part of you was glad, even if you always trusted him to score it. But the thought of him missing it and getting abuse from people broke your heart. And he'd also blame himself after a great tournament, forgetting every good performance he had before. So maybe it was for the best he was on the bench right now. Even if you knew he wouldn't be happy about it.
It only took a couple of minutes for the penalty shootout to be over, but to the entire country, it felt like it lasted several hours. But they had done it! Argentina were the world champions! Your boyfriend was a world champion. It was hard to believe. It seemed it was only two days ago that you were playing with him and all the other kids in your neighbourhood after school. And now there he was, champion of the world. It wasn't the first trophy he had won but it was the biggest he could ever win.
Even though you knew he wasn't going to get access to his phone for a while, you immediately sent him a text congratulating him and telling him how proud you were and how much you loved him. He always read your messages first even if he had to scroll down to find them because you were always the first one to text.
Your family decided to go out and join everyone celebrating on the streets but they couldn't convince you to go out as well. You wanted to be away from the noise when Julián called you.
When you heard the ringtone, you sprinted from the kitchen to the sofa to get the phone.
"Hi! Oh my God, you won! I'm so proud. I love you so much. Look at that medal! I can't believe you are a world champion. Can you believe it?"
He just laughed at how you couldn't stop talking. That was what you always did when you were nervous or very excited about something. And while he found it adorable, he knew he had to wait until you were done before he could say a word.
"And Leo winning the world cup now…he's just the best. Well, second best. You are the best. You should hear what people are saying about you in England. Everyone is praising you. It's so nice they finally could see how good you are".
After that, you took some deep breaths signalling you were done with your monologue and Julián just said a simple te amo before telling you all about the match and parading the phone around the dressing room so you could congratulate everyone.
"I gotta go. We'll continue the celebrations in the hotel. See you tomorrow. Finally!"
"Yes. Finally", you said, rolling your eyes and making him laugh. "Te amo, mi campeón" (I love you, my champion).
"I love you more".
                                     **
Between the jet lag and the anticipation of Julián being back in a couple of hours, you couldn’t sleep at all. So you decided to go back to a habit you had at the beginning of your relationship and that you didn't get to do as often nowadays. You took a piece of paper and wrote him a letter. Most of the time, you just wrote about random things. Someone you saw on the street and that made you laugh or the exam you had to do that week. But the longer letters were those where you poured your heart out to him. This time, it was going to be a very long letter.
After a quick breakfast, it was time to go meet the team. They had planned on seeing their families briefly and then going to the huge parade that was taking place in their honour. The entire city was full of Argentinians waiting to see their heroes.
You only had one hero that you needed to see, but when he finally appeared, you couldn’t move. It was the weirdest sensation and something that had never happened to you before. But you just stared at him while the rest of the family kept running in his direction.
Julián was looking around trying to find you and when he finally spotted you, it was his big smile that finally made you move and run to hug him.
"I missed you", he whispered.
"God. I missed you more".
People kept bumping into you two while moving around the very crowded room, but you didn’t care. You could have stayed like that forever.
"Do I have to go to the parade?"
"No", you said, laughing. "You have to stay with me and never leave again".
"As much as I would love to do that", he said, pressing his forehead to yours, "I still need to leave. I can't say it won't take long but after I'm back I'm not separating from you for longer than 5 minutes every day".
"Okay".
After a long kiss that felt too short for both of you, he was taken back with the rest of the team. But the good thing was that now that you had seen him, you could join in the celebrations.
                                     **
"I can barely stand", said your mum when you finally sat down after hours of dancing and singing.
"Same".
"Is Julián going to meet us soon?"
You looked down at your watch. "Soon-ish. If they can escape the crowd".
You both laughed at that, thinking about how the bus could barely move because of how many people were there.
"There they are!", said your dad, pointing at the group of players approaching.
It didn't take Julian long to get to where you were all waiting. He lifted you in his arms and started to spin you around, making you laugh.
"Stop! I'm going to be dizzy!"
"I already am dizzy with happiness and love", he said, making you laugh again.
"And drunk".
"I only had a beer".
"Then you are really cheesy", you said, giving his lips another peck.
"Says miss love letters", he taunted you. He loved your letters but also loved teasing you about them.
"Speaking of that", you said, opening your bag to get the one you had written to him this morning.
"Should I wait to read it?"
"It's long, so better save it for when we aren't surrounded by so many people".
When he was about to give you another kiss, someone tapped him on the shoulder to ask for a photo. Great, more fans had gotten inside what was supposed to be the private area.
"It's ok", you told him when he looked at you, a question on his face, "take the photos. I'll wait".
Once people saw one of the players taking photos with fans, they all thought they could get one. It was then you started to notice people pushing you so they could get to Julián and to other players.
"Be careful!", you said to someone who pushed you so hard, he almost made you fall.
"Shut up", was his only response.
You were about to tell him a couple of things when you saw Julián noticing what was going on.
"Hey! That's no way to talk to her. Apologize right now".
When the man heard Julián's words, he turned red. His embarrassment was punishment enough but he turned back to apologize to you.
Julián ignored everyone else so he could get closer to you.
"You ok?"
"Yes. It's just too many people in such a small place and you know how much everyone's been drinking too".
"Let's go", he said, grabbing your hand and leading you to where the cars were.
"We don't have to leave yet", you complained. You didn't want him to cut the celebrations short because of you.
"I want to. Really. I rather spend time with you than stay here", he said, caressing your cheek.
"Ok then".
                                   **
Back home, he was getting the same amount of attention but from family members this time. Even though Julián never stopped holding your hand and moving you closer to him, he had to pay attention to at least 10 people at the same time. It looked like they were taking turns.
"Finally!", he said, falling down into your bed while you closed the door.
"How tired are you exactly?", you asked, laying down next to him and putting your head on his chest.
"Exhausted. But I don't want to sleep".
"What?", you laughed. That didn't make sense.
"I want to stay awake and spend all my time with you. I can't believe we survived a whole month away from each other".
"I know", you agreed, closing your eyes and holding him tighter.
After a couple of minutes, you remembered your mum was making some mate and asked Julián if he wanted some. When he said yes, you went to the kitchen to get it.
He sat up in the bed and remembered that you had given him a letter earlier, which he still hadn't read. So that's what he did while waiting for you to be back with the drinks.
"My love, telling you that I missed you would be an understatement. But the pride I've felt this whole month made everything more bearable.
I've been thinking back to the times when we played in the park with our friends. How you were always teasing me and how I told my parents you hit me with the ball on purpose, when it was actually me hitting you. I remember the day we confessed our feelings to each other, when you told me all the teasing was you trying to get my attention because you already liked me. And then I had to tell you that I was doing the same…but in a more aggressive way.
I love that we still are those silly teens. I love that we are not afraid of making fun of each other because we know it all comes from a place of love. Even if some people don't understand it. Like your new teammates. They probably think we are really weird in Argentina.
We once said we'd be together every step of the way while we make our dreams come true. That's why I moved to Manchester with you. That's why I felt guilty for not being able to be with you during this World Cup, but didn't want to tell you so you wouldn't feel bad. I never wanted to be a distraction. But I felt guilty. I can finally say it. And I felt so sad when I realised I wouldn't be there when you won the tournament. I guess you'll have to win it again to compensate for it.
But the biggest thing that this month away from you has shown me is that I never want to experience this again. I never want to be away from you again. I want to spend every day of my life with you…".
You got back to the room before he finished reading the letter but he had read enough. He got up from the bed and took the drinks from your hands so he could put them on the table.
"What?"
But he didn't let you say more. He kissed you, holding your face gently, as if you were made of glass.
"Me too", he said, smiling.
"You too what?"
"The letter. I want that too. I want to spend every day, every second, with you".
"Good, because I wasn't going to take no for an answer".

UK won't give visas to injured Palestinian children for treatment!!!
Tumblr media
The relative few children in Gaza who have been able to get out for treatment have ended up in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Italy, France, Malta and the United States, among other countries.
But not the United Kingdom. British doctors and charities, including Kandiah’s, who are part of an initiative called Project Pure Hope, told Middle East Eye that they began efforts in January to bring four siblings and their cousin from Gaza as a "test case" to see what would happen.
Three of the siblings, whose parents were killed, had suffered traumatic amputations and required further medical treatment, which pediatric hospitals across Britain were prepared to provide.
Over £500,000 ($636,000) was raised, enough to cover their treatment, and arrangements were made for the children’s aunt and grandmother to accompany them, according to those involved.
The issue was visas.
“We literally were asking to bring a handful of children,” said Dr Omar Abdel-Mannan, a British-Egyptian paediatric neurologist and founder of Health Workers for Palestine. Abdel-Mannan has worked at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, one of the world’s leading facilities treating children, during a time he said upwards of 100 Ukrainian children were being treated.
“The double standards are very clear for anyone to see. I’m sad to see my own NHS, which is helping patients day in and day out, is unable to do this, not because of [a lack of] willpower from medics, but at a political level,” he said.

Surgeon worked in Gaza feels “criminalised” after being refused entry to France
A British surgeon who testified about Israel’s war on Gaza after operating during the conflict said he felt criminalised after being refused entry to France at the weekend, The Guardian reports.
Prof Ghassan Abu-Sitta, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon, was due to speak about the war to the upper house of the French parliament on Saturday. However, after arriving at Charles de Gaulle airport north of Paris on a morning flight from London, French authorities informed him that Germany had enforced an all-Schengen ban on his entry to Europe.
Abu-Sitta said he was unaware that German authorities, who had previously refused him entry to Berlin in April, had imposed an administrative visa ban on him for a year, meaning he was barred from entering any Schengen country. Abu-Sitta said on Sunday:
“What I find most difficult to accept is this complete criminalisation.”
He added that he was previously told by authorities he would be unable to enter Germany for the month of April.
Yanis Varoufakis, former Greek finance minister and leader of the leftist MEPA25 party, commented on this situation on X:
“Banning an eyewitness from testifying before the French Senate, thus protecting Israel’s right to commit genocide with impunity, is a new low for the EU. The impression is that the EU authorities are doing everything they can to justify Brexiteers. Unprecedented stupidity in action!”

THURSDAY HERO: Gino Bartali
Born in a small town near Florence in 1914, Gino grew up extremely poor. He escaped his difficult life by riding his bike from dusk until dawn around the hills of Tuscany. Building up exceptional strength and endurance, Gino started competing and winning races. Only a few years after his first race, he went professional. By the early 1930’s, Gino was a household name throughout Italy. Everywhere he went he was mobbed by fans. When he won the Tour de France in 1938, at age 24, Gino was hailed as the “King of Cycling.”
Gino wasn’t able to defend his title at the 1939 Tour because of worsening relations between Italy and France. He was drafted into the army and worked as a military bike messenger. In 1943, Germany invaded Italy and immediately began rounding up and deporting Italian Jews. A friend of Gino’s asked him to help save their Jewish brethren. Though married and with a young son, Gino did not hesitate. He immediately committed to doing whatever he could to save lives, whatever the risk.
Gino sheltered a local Jewish family in an apartment he bought with cycling money. He then embarked on a dangerous mission smuggling fake identity papers around Tuscany and Umbria, enabling Jews to assume false identities and escape deportation. Using his training routes between Florence and Assisi, Gino made 30-40 trips, saving at least 800 Italian Jews. He carried exit visas in his bicycle frame. Wherever he went, Gino was surrounded by fans, preventing German policemen from looking too closely at what he was doing. On the few occasions he was stopped and searched, Gino insisted that his specially-made bike was too delicate to be touched. A devout Catholic, Gino often traveled from Florence to Assisi and back in one day – a 200 km trip. In Assisi, Catholic clergy ran an underground railroad to hide Jews and provided them with Gino’s fake identity documents.
Gino was extremely modest and rarely spoke about his wartime heroism. He once told his son, “If you’re good at a sport, they attach the medals to your shirts and then they shine in a museum. That which is earned by doing good deeds is attached to the soul and shines elsewhere.” It wasn’t until after his death in 2000 that his family began speaking publicly about what Gino had done. In 2013, Gino was honored by Israeli Holocaust Museum Yad Vashem as “Righteous Among the Nations.”
For using his talent and fame to save hundreds of lives, we honor Gino Bartali as this week’s Thursday Hero at Accidental Talmudist.
