honestly i hate how that “maybe the curtains are just blue” post has become shorthand for anti-intellectualism and shit bc as someone who has an utter passion for media analysis now, I WAS THAT PERSON IN HIGH SCHOOL ENGLISH CLASS.

english class never taught me how to analyze stories, it taught me how to remember what things the teacher said were “symbolism” and how to take quizzes where we had to match a quote to the character who said it. i didn’t give a shit about any of it, bc literally why should i. it was bullshit.

there’s this idea online that people are forgetting or rejecting what they learned in english class when they’re bad at media analysis, and maybe that’s a little bit true, but i think the much bigger problem is they never learned it in the first place. cinemasins & “maybe the curtains are just blue” aren’t convincing people to abandon an intellectualism they already had, they’re filling a void.

when all you learn in high school is to write on the test “blue = depression”, why is it surprising that so many people don’t give a shit about the curtains.

i remember the first time ever i listened to SO i was like pfft rap? get out. (i was cringe) and then when i gave it a listen again a few months later i was a changed person... so i binge listened to their entire discography immediately and was genuinely shocked because how could ALL of their songs be bangers, like i couldn't believe it was possible it was surreal........ i wish i could turn back time (lol) to experience that pure shock again

ough I’m editing my September garden video and when I was filming in the garden I bumped into my parents so we walked around together, sooo many of the clips have commentary from them pointing out things that they’ve spotted or chatting or just making random comments and while that makes for very bad video audio it makes me very fond :’)

Ok so I’m playing Prey (2017).

M. Yu is the goofiest person in any story driven game ever.

:Spoilers for a 6 year old game if anyone cares:

They literally thought “Aliens have powers so let’s shove the aliens in our head and hope we get powers” like W H A T.

The game is set in a universe where Kennedy wasn’t killed but I didn’t think that his boner for the space race would transfer to everyone else.

Like the world building is amazing and the power system along with the aliens is cool in its own right but how could they think this was smart.

They literally invented a gun that shoots a massive glob of goop that stops electricity, puts out fire, AND HARDENS INTO A SUBSTANCE THAT CAN SUPPORT A GROWN ASS MAN’S WEIGHT. Hell they invented a taser that shoots electricity without damaging the body itself.

After all this technological development, his security measure for if the ALIENS THAT THEY ARE SHOVING INTO THEIR HEADS TRYS TO ESCAPE is to SHOVE MORE ALIENS INTO HIS HEAD AND HAVE A ROBOT WITH HIS VOICE TELL HIM TO BLOW S H I T U P.
