Was someone going to tell me that the retake of the national high school history exam in 2023 included the complaint tablet to Ea-Nasir??? Or was I supposed to find out myself which I just did?? This is the whole complaint in Dutch, including a question on how this shows that Ur was an early urban society.

Behind the Meme: Complaint Tablet to Ea-nasir
In 1953, explorer Sir Leonard Woolley discovered and acquired the tablet from what is believed to be the ruins of Ea-nasir's home while on an expedition to the city of Ur. Several other similar tablets complaining about poor copper quality were also recovered, suggesting Ea-nasir frequently sent his customers poor-quality goods. The tablet is currently held at the British Museum.
A few of the most viral Tumblr posts about this meme: https://probablybadrpgideas.tumblr.com/post/171826102481/your-players-are-faced-with-an-ancient-sumerian https://brightwanderer.tumblr.com/post/645195882465230848/ea-nasir-is-that-you
Translation of the tablet:
Tell Ea-nasir: Nanni sends the following message:
When you came, you said to me as follows : "I will give Gimil-Sin (when he comes) fine quality copper ingots." You left then but you did not do what you promised me. You put ingots which were not good before my messenger (Sit-Sin) and said: "If you want to take them, take them; if you do not want to take them, go away!"
What do you take me for, that you treat somebody like me with such contempt? I have sent as messengers gentlemen like ourselves to collect the bag with my money (deposited with you) but you have treated me with contempt by sending them back to me empty-handed several times, and that through enemy territory. Is there anyone among the merchants who trade with Telmun who has treated me in this way? You alone treat my messenger with contempt! On account of that one (trifling) mina of silver which I owe(?) you, you feel free to speak in such a way, while I have given to the palace on your behalf 1,080 pounds of copper, and umi-abum has likewise given 1,080 pounds of copper, apart from what we both have had written on a sealed tablet to be kept in the temple of Samas.
How have you treated me for that copper? You have withheld my money bag from me in enemy territory; it is now up to you to restore (my money) to me in full.
Take cognizance that (from now on) I will not accept here any copper from you that is not of fine quality. I shall (from now on) select and take the ingots individually in my own yard, and I shall exercise against you my right of rejection because you have treated me with contempt.

Legolas x elf reader
A/n: I just finished the lotr for the 4 time and wow I forgot how long it is
⚠️:battles, fluff, PDA, gender neutral reader. Let me know if I missed anything
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You are a elf from a different region
You were sent to help and the moment legolas saw you
He almost died
You had a different look than most elfs
Your hair was styled non traditionally and your ear had cuffs on them
His first words to you were "hello you are gorgeous"
"Thank your not to bad your self" you said giving a hand for a hand shake
You Because close after you help him with herbs that are from your region that he was unfamiliar with
He found out you were one of the descendants of elfs that broke away thousands of years ago and you loved in the forests with monsters
You help him with monsters and different languages
He helped you with fighting and cooking
It was a very balanced thing
When you confessed was after you almost died in battle
He immediately found you and confessed his love
Nothing really changed after that but more PDA and he was more protective
Gimile lives to tease him and not you
So he will try not to hurt gimile but no promises if you're not around
Over all you love him and he loves you

My brother and i were watching two towers and debating which creatures we could take in a fight and he's confident he could take an orc. I myself doubt I could take even Gollum, could take Frodo but would not survive retribution from Sam, and then he asked me if i thought i could take Gimil and I'm like 💀 in what world do you think I could beat Gimli son of Glóin in a fight. Are you thick in the head.

2022 reread: I've totally and utterly lost count of how many times I've read this book, but two things struck me this time:
-Frodo's Age: I'm getting closer and closer to Frodo's age when he begins this epic and personally destroying adventure, and I find myself seeing Frodo in a whole new light. You see his calmness, his wisdom, his love of the younger Hobbits, the agony of knowing the burden he bears, it all takes on a new weight when you look at it from the perspective of a 50ish-year-old man instead of a 20ish-year-old young man. The journey has more solemnity to it, and you understand the upheaval it brings to a more settled, tired point in life. You understand that he is closer in age to Aragorn than Merry and Pippin. This is another area where I think the movies lost something. The movie Frodo is far too young. Going on an adventure as a person in your 50s is way different than going on an adventure in your 20s.
-Gimil's Gift: The whole Lothlorien scene is still one of my favorites in the book. It is so elvish, more elvish than anything else Tolkien wrote. You can truly sense the beauty, timelessness, magic, joy, and sadness of these beings. Gimil's gift always makes me cry, but what struck me this time was how it brought the elves and dwarves full circle, uniting them back together. Dwarves murdered Thingol in Doriath. Thingol was kin to Celeborn, and Galadriel lived with them in Doriath for many, many years. If anyone has a right to hate Dwarves it's Celeborn and Galadriel, and yet, Galadriel goes out of her way to welcome and heal much of the rift between elves and dwarves, which is probably what makes way for Legolas and Gimli to be such friends. That relationship starts in Lothlorien. What delight must it have brought Tolkien to write some of those scenes, even knowing that his readers at the time wouldn't grasp their depths, and how thankful I am for the Silmarillion.
I love it!!!
Also, speaking of the movies, Gimli, Merry, and Pippin are all such more well-rounded, solid, courageous, and wonderful in the book. Just saying. And don't get me started on Aragorn.

The Unseen Princess
Chapter Four: The Journey to Rohan
Chapter 3
Normal PoV
It was after the council meeting and  y/n was trying to find a hobbit she hasn't seen in a while. When she found him she smiled then called out to him.
"Bilbo." She called and he looked up to see her and he had the biggest smile he had given to anyone.
"Y/n Cormyth, my what a pleasure," Bilbo said as he stood up and went up to her and gave her a hug once she was on her knees.
"It's so good to finally see you after everything that has happened in Ornarta Casmasto. I apologise for not being able to go to your birthday party." Y/n said as she moved away from Bilbo and gave him a small sad smile.
As Bilbo was saying something to her about it being fine, similar to Elrond she saw something terrible happening to her homelands and she fell to the floor from the shock. They stumbled upon a room that was forbidden to not just people outside the realm but their own people.
"Y/n! Y/n! Wake up!" Bilbo started to shout. "Someone help!" He continued as he was next to her holding her head.
Just by chance Elrond and Aragorn were walking by and they quickly made their way over to them. When Elrond touched her he saw what she had and he saw that the king had gotten them out as well and the doors were locked and is to be guarded all hours of the day. Elrond did a healing spell for when she hit her head and Aragorn helped her up once she woke up. Elrond did not speak of what it was that the orcs were after from her people he just showed her to a room to get ready. Once there she began to get ready like everyone else was. She still never once took her mother's crown from her head.
The next morning they set out on the adventure that was going to change the future. As they were making their way through the mountains they were discovered by Saruman and they were focused to use the mains of Moria. As Gandalf was trying to get in y/n was looking at the water in front of her.
"It's a riddle," Frodo suddenly spoke up "What's the elvish word for friend," Frodo spoke as Pipin was throwing stones into the late just before Gandalf said Mellon, Aragorn stopped him and they walked in.
As Gimil was telling Legolas about dwarfish food, y/n was still looking at the lake just then there were shouts of Frodo's name and when she turned around she saw him being dragged by a big octopus and as she was about to go and help she was grabbed by one of its tentacles and throw up in the air and caught again. As she tried to get away from its tentacle she was suddenly let go and fell through the air and into someone's arms and carried into the mains of Moria alongside everyone else. Once inside the door collapse onto the octopus and y/n was put down on her own feet. When she looked up she saw that it was Legolas that had helped her. She said her thanks and they began to make their way through the mains. When they were walking around to get out y/n could hear someone following them, but did not speak of it to the others. As Gandalf was deciding which way to go Legolas went to talk to y/n.
"If you don't mind me asking but why did your people go into hiding?" He asked and her whole body went tense.
"That is my doing. I was born more powerful than the rest of my kin and because I am the princess the Orcs thought it would be wise to try and kidnap me and use me against my own kin. But they forgot that there is a spell that can save another but risk their own. It was used that day to kill all of the Orcs that dear to come into our realm." Y/n explained as she was looking at Gandalf.
"Who used the spell? If you don't mind me asking." Legolas carried on.
"And because of that I never got to know my mother." She whispered and it flutter in the air as at that moment everyone had gone quiet. "Oh, it's that way." She said as she pointed to the tunnel on Gandalf's left.
"Ah! She is right, the air isn't as foul down there." Gandalf agreed with her.
They began to make the journey deeper into the mains and when Gimil ran to a burial of an old friend, y/n was listening to what was happening when they were reading an old book until Pippin touched something he wasn't supposed to and immediately y/n pulled out her sword. When the others put there's away, she did not. The others looked at her questionably until they heard Orcs and were thrown into battle with them. At one point they had got away from the Orcs by killing them all but they were then surrounded by them. Next things happened so fast that she didn't know what was going on until they were standing outside of the mains. The only thing she remembers is that Gandalf had fallen protecting them. Aragorn then lends them to the Lothlórien forest where they were caught by Haldir and taken to see Lord Celeborn and Galadriel, Lady of Light. When there Galadriel talked to all of them, but not y/n as she could see what was happening to Gandalf as it was in front of her own eyes. When the others were dismissed Galadriel opened her arms for her. She did not hesitate to run into them with a small smile on her face as she hugged them as if her life depended on it.
"Godmother how I missed you two," Y/n said as she looked at Celeborn and hugged him as well.
They talked for a while until y/n went to rest with the others. When she was gone she did not notice that Galadriel had taken her crown to add to it and take something off of it. She looked to Celeborn and he already knew what she wanted to do and nodded in agreement and took the crown for it to be done.
When the time came for them to leave everyone got a clock that will help them and a gift for each of them, but when it came to y/n she smiled at her.
"I apologise for taking this without your permission, but I wanted to add some very special gems that will help you on your quest. If you ever find yourself in the dark do not fret, because you are strong where it counts. You know where that is." Galadriel said as she was given her mother's crown and placed it back on her head where it belongs.
She looked at her and smiled as she thanked her for returning it to her as she had thought she had lost it. When they set out on the river she was smiling as they left, but when they stopped to rest she heard the song of the trees from far away which had not been heard for thousands of years. As she was listening to the song she heard the horn of Gondor and she ran to where it was and saw Boromir fighting the Orc's breed for war. She did not get to him in time and he was killed and Pippin and Merry were taken as she was fighting the one who had killed Boromir. She was knocked down to the floor but as she kicked him Aragorn came and finished him off. She was pulled up to her feet and she could hear Frodo and Sam leaving to finish the ring. She thanked Legolas for helping her up, then looked to Aragorn already knowing where he wants to go.
"So, shall we stand around all day or should we go find us some hobbits?" She asked Aragorn with a small knowing smile on her face.
He chuckled and began to lead them on to find their hobbit friends. On their way to find their friends, they came across the riders of Rohan who told them of the hobbits. While trying to find the hobbits they came across someone they did not expect to come across.
"Gandalf." Aragorn had been the first to speak out of the four companies.
They spoke before making their way to Rohan where Gandalf had told y/n to keep her hood on and not take it off unless he has told her so. She listened to what she was told and as they made her way into the throne room all she could feel was the presence of the darkness surrounding the king as he sat the looking dead. When Gandalf broke the spell and the snake who was controlling him was gone, he then let y/n pull down her hood. When she did, King Theoden could not believe his eyes.
"It is not possible, for the sun and moonlight elves are long but left this earth." He had said when he had seen her.
"I would have to say you have not been told the truth as my people are still on this earth fighting to keep their lives along with every other living creature upon this earth." Y/n had told him as she had looked to Gandalf who had nodded in agreement as he had known her father long before she was born.
"You do not know but her life is worth more the many since she has been through hell just to keep her life since her mother had to sacrifice hers to keep her alive and so many others." Gandalf had told him as he stood next to y/n.
"If her life is worth so much then why is she putting her life on the line now to help you?" Theoden had asked them.
"My people would be dead alongside men if this ring is given to its rightful owner, so if it must end in my life instead of the innocence of my kin, then so be it because I would rather be dead than let the races of men, elves and dwarves be a perish into the forgotten world of the dead like so many others who have sacrificed so much more for me. Then I would gladly pay with my life then hide behind the walls and protection of my kin." Y/n had explained then walked out of the room.

for the ask meme— 1, 6 (surveillance series!), 23!
1. What fic of yours would you recommend to someone who had never read any of your work? (In other words, what do you think is the best introduction to your fics?)
I think Wedding Cup is fun and short and kind of representative of things I like to do in fic like bits of letters and outside POV and humor and courting traditions! I wish I had a new Legolas/Gimil fic idea. I want to write something new for them so much.
6. What’s one fact about the universe of [insert fic] that you didn’t get a chance to mention in the fic itself?
I guess at some point I was going to have there be a public reveal that Kon was also Lex's son because I wrote and saved this line for Lex to say to Tim 😂
“It wasn’t enough to poach my company assets?” Luthor asks, drawling. “You also had to date my son?”
23. What’s a trope, AU, or concept you’ve never written, but would like to?
Hugely disastrous thing happens and someone has to time travel and fix it!

Wait I wonder if why people don't expect the villains named stuff like Frank "the evil orphan killer" Thomas because all those names are retroactively added during the retelling of the story
I mean consider a narrator going "and here Gimil-Sin made a stop in the lovely Dilmun to purchase copper from the scam artist known as Ea-'the liar'-Nasir" like that sounds exactly what someone who had beef to pick would say. So what I'm saying is: slighted narrator who's super pissed at some totally normal guy specifically because he turned them down for a date that one time and they're being really extra about it
