On Thursday, after teasing a massive announcement the day before, former President Donald Trump unveiled a series of $99 "trading card" nonfungible tokens, or NFTs — images of himself backed by cryptocurrency technology.

The announcement was widely mocked — however, one slightly less discussed detail is the nature of the company making the cards.

It isn't Trump's campaign, nor is it the Trump Organization. Rather, it is a mysterious entity known as CIC Ventures, which, according to Ken Bensington of The New York Times, has a lot of overlap with Trump.

"The company that licensed Trump's image and likeness for the $99 NFT trading cards appears to be one founded in 2021 by former Trump advisor Nick Luna and current Trump lawyer John Marion," wrote Bensington on Twitter. "Its mailing address is the same as the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach."

"Little is known about CIC, but a little digging shows that a manila folder seized from Mar-a-Lago by the FBI in August was marked 'Serio Contract' and contained a contract with CIC Ventures and Gold Ventures, per a federal court filing," Bensington continued.

Even some Trump supporters grumbled about the NFT announcement, complaining that the cards on offer were "worthless" and a "scam."

This comes as Trump has suffered setbacks with his 2024 campaign launch, with some polls indicating he is losing the lead among the Republican base to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis — which Trump took to his Truth Social platform to rail against this week.

The way the Red Rising Reddit always wants to hate on Lyria makes my blood boil. Either it’s somehow her fault for being oppressed, or she’s ‘too whiny’ or she’s being white-washed. Like there’s literally a whole, very beautiful scene where Mustang acknowledges that way the Republic failed people like Lyria and her family. And I still love Mustang—lord knows I’ll always love Darrow, the Telemanus family . But they have privilege, and it can make the root of the problem become harder to see the farther up they are. Pierce, specifically points out these flaws, we don’t have to guess at them. At every turn he validates Lyria concerns and addresses them. So why is it so hard for people to get that? Lyria is powerless. She’s a reflection of the Darrow we saw in the beginning of the story: bright, brilliant, but unable to reach his full potential. It was always about the access to the resources. It was always about including people in the story who are directly affected by the system as it is. I don’t expect Pierce to be an expert as race relations, or to expertly tell the story of the marginalized; he is a white man after all. But he has made the effort to not alienate the purpose of these characters struggles. This is still a story about the little man. Why is it so hard for people to understand the plight and the struggle Lyria faces. The real and justified rage she feels at our favs. She’s always been right, and even Mustang sees that.

something i find interesting about the loot table with the trail ruins rn is like

theres 7 pottery shards to find there so they did a lot with pottery in this culture

the dyes and dyed items dont match up, no candles that are the colors of the loose dyes you find, no brown or green glass panes [colors of the candles], no orange or blue (only light blue) glass panes [from the loose dyes]

theres only oak and spruce hanging signs no matter the biome theyre generated in, im suffering the implications of why theres only those two to find, did they just not use any other wood or are those two the only ones to survive the test of time
