Doing grad school, without a computer.
Let's start off with this is a privileged ass blog post. When I graduated from high school, I bought my first laptop. a Macbook Pro with insanely amount of power & memory.
That bad boy lasted me a whole 9 whole years, can you believe that? A Macbook Pro lasting almost a decade. Community college, bachelor's degree, and almost my master's. old reliable, forreal.
Well, a couple of Mondays ago, while I was playing the role of an executive assistant, my screen lit up....... but instead of displaying my screen it was a dark, faint, blue. It was as if I had to turn on my brightness, but nothing worked.
I am a second year grad student, a professional, a coach at times, and for 20 hours a week, I'm a personal assistant (unknowingly). I am stressed because people depend on me to get emails sent, documents handed in, and manage things. I live in a world that you cannot do school without a computer.
This was a known fact but the experience of not having a laptop, using an outdated pc in a library that's on campus, and having endless deadlines regardless of circumstance, was undeniably one of the hardest and humbling experiences of my professional career.
A new Macbook would cost twice my rent plus more. It would take take a month and a half to make what a new laptop costs (that's including my very underpaid school job).
Isn't that fucked?
And yet, the world keeps turning. The deadlines keep piling. Not having a laptop only makes my life harder. In fact, doing graduate school without a laptop is nearly impossible.

Another day of learning, another day of adventures!
I started teaching religious education yesterday: At least, I would have, if any of my kids had shown up to class! I have to send an email out to the parents introducing myself. As of right now, there are only three kids in my class.
I need to prepare today for two job interviews that I have tomorrow. Both are with eating disorder treatment places near my house. I doubt I'll get a job offer due to how recently I've been in treatment, but I'm feeling a really strong pull to continue exploring a career in mental health treatment.
To-Do
Finish book two of De Doctrina Christiana
Read Apologetics and Catholic Doctrine, chapter 10
Read Apologetics and Catholic Doctrine, chapter 11
Watch Fundamental Theology lecture 6.1

Review Resume

15-Day Language Challenge
Day 4: The most challenging thing about your target language
Each language has a language-specific challenge (something I find hard specific to the language) and a personal challenge (something I find hard about the language due to my learning disability).
I find Spanish a relative easy language to study. Because I've heard it my entire life, a lot of the properties come intuitively. As I advance in my studies, I notice that I have trouble with the more complicated verb tenses, as well as the conjugation of haber. Those are the language-specific challenges. My personal challenge is that I have aphasia (an inability to recall words), which hinders my ability to name objects in my original and target languages. When I can't put words to the images in my mind in Spanish or English, it presents some obvious difficulties, which are more pronounced when I speak Spanish.
My main language-specific challenge with Hebrew is the lack of Greek or Latin cognates. When I can use cognates, it makes learning vocabulary a bit quicker because I can draw comparisons more easily between languages. Without them, I'm learning entirely new terminology for languages.

Decoding Your Job Offer: What's Really in Your CTC?
Hey everyone!
So, you got a job offer! Congrats! 🎉 You see that big number, the CTC, and you're thinking, "Wow, I'm rich!" But... is it really all yours?
Let's talk about CTC, or Cost to Company. It's the total amount your employer spends on you each year. Sounds great, right? But here's the thing: it's not all cash you'll see in your bank account.
Think of it like a big pie. Your basic salary is a slice, allowances (like for rent or travel) are another, and then you have things like health insurance, retirement funds, and sometimes even meal vouchers! All of that adds up to your CTC.
I remember when I first got my offer, I was so excited about the CTC number, but then I realized my take-home pay was different. It's like finding out your birthday cake has a layer you can't eat! 🎂
In my latest blog post, I break down all the components of CTC, show you how to calculate your actual salary, and explain why it matters. It's super important, especially if you're a student or recent grad, to understand this so you can make smart decisions.
Don't get caught off guard! Check out my blog post to learn how to really understand your job offer and plan your finances.

MA In Sanskrit: Course, Fees, Admission, Syllabus, Career
The MA in Sanskrit is a post-graduate program that focuses on examining the linguistics and ancient history of India. Sanskrit, prominently known as the conventional language of Hinduism with ties to Buddhism, has its origins dating back to 1200 BCE. This language serves as the original medium for religious texts and Vedas in Indian culture, offering an extensive study of these ancient subjects.

I realized that one of the reasons I have a hard time in academia is that I struggle to think linearly. Open questions don't follow an A then B then C format. Open questions are explosions that branch out in ten different directions and three different academic fields at the same time. There's no telling how far any branch will go, or how long the explosion will take to coagulate into a solid, mostly static form. It could take weeks, it could take months, it could take years. When this 3D monstrosity becomes static, I can begin to make connections between the various branches. I can begin to map out a route that goes "A then [] then 9" to any given point. I can start to see parallels in the structure or across different branches. It then takes me additional months to translate these findings into a linear format that fits within an academic paper and can be communicated coherently to other people. In sum, because I really struggle to think linearly, I take more or less triple the time to finish anything. The only benefit, if people have been patient with me, is that I tend to make relatively novel leaps in my research, which (I think) make for more interesting papers.

How to write a dissertation: A Step-by-Step Guide for Beginners
Are you a student looking to write a dissertation but feeling overwhelmed and unsure where to start? Don't worry, we've got you covered! Here's a step-by-step guide to help you through the process:
Choose your topic: Your topic should be something you're passionate about and have an interest in researching further.
Conduct research: Use academic journals, books, and other reliable sources to gather information on your topic. Take thorough notes and keep track of your sources.
Develop a thesis statement: Your thesis statement should clearly state the main argument or point of your dissertation.
Create an outline: Organize your research and ideas into an outline that includes an introduction, literature review, methodology, results, and conclusion.
Write your first draft: Start writing your dissertation using your outline as a guide. Don't worry about perfect grammar or spelling at this stage - just focus on getting your ideas down on paper.
Edit and revise: Once you've completed your first draft, go back and edit and revise it to make sure it's clear, concise, and well-organized.
Proofread: After you've edited and revised, proofread your dissertation carefully to catch any errors in grammar, spelling, or punctuation.
Get feedback: Have someone else read over your dissertation and provide feedback. This can help you catch any areas that need improvement and make your dissertation even stronger.
Submit your final draft: After incorporating any feedback and making final edits, submit your dissertation and celebrate all your hard work!
Remember, writing a dissertation takes time and effort, but with these steps, you can break it down into manageable tasks and create a successful dissertation.
