Gothic fiction at its finest
The Last Heir to Blackwood Library by Hester Fox is one of the best modern-day examples of Gothic fiction. The heroine’s name, Ivy Radcliffe, reeks of a Gothic story as it exudes innocence and privilege. Then it takes place on the Yorkshire moors because of course it does. All that aside, Ms. Fox’s story is fantastic. She cleverly uses certain aspects of her story to keep you guessing.…

Sabretooth War part 7
this was a big waste of a book. not of time, but of potential
Tumblr media
Lavalle is the lead? really now, sorta felt like it had Percy's fingerprints more...then again the last book felt the other way, so yes they were co-writing i guess after all
so we pick up where we left off last time. Victor besting up Logan after zapping him with the no-powers gun
Tumblr media
heh his narration box border is cute
anywhos, beating him up, lamenting about things not being rough and dirty enough, yadda yaddda, yadda
we cut to Laura breaking out of her box and having lots of internal thoughts as she crawls through air vents
cut to the Pit Gang lamenting tehir dead, and Nekra saying nuts to all this i'm getting ride of Sabretooth and fighting with Oya
cut to Quiten's Cuckoo girlfriend who's resting back at the Green House?? (was she incapacitated? it's so hard to remember or care). Quinten laments that he's a head and how Vic's gonna make him whammy Logan
(i may have mixed up the order of operations on those....again so hard to remember or care)
cut back to Vic making Quiten whammy Logan. he's down for the moment but then Nekra swoops in and uses the Death Seed McGuffin from the first part of the trilogy and...
Tumblr media
it summons Audrey Two to eat Victor. ok.... (i mean good timing with the eclipse, but...wut?)
we cut to the SabreSquad (or what's left of it) with the Graydon reveal...
Tumblr media
he's as melodramatic as always, yeesh. and (AoA Graydon) Horror Show was a way better name. Graydon can sync to the ship's bluetooth so he's got the clone army on his wifi plan again
Tumblr media
oh hey look, someone remembered that there were OTHER female!Sabretooths in the clone army
Savage gets called away to go find Laura and...
Tumblr media
the title cover fight is this. Laura yet again, just kills one of the more interesting members of the SabreSquad with one swipe. i...i love Laura, don't get me wrong, but SERIOUSLY???? this is such a waste. now all three from the second part of the trilogy are dead, and we've only got the new guy Camo that no one cares about. and Savage was the only one left with a braincell, so yeah whatever plans they got going on are out the door for sure now. this is bad. just...uhg
Tumblr media
isn't Jefferies their ship?? i think he's allowed to be annoyed with you for forgetting that
but anyways, the Pit Gang escapes with Logan. he's not dead, but says he needs some new toys because depowered and what not
Graydon catches Laura after she phones home and he's all "haha good i want more people to come here" because he too is an idiot (but that is par for the course for him, so it's fine)
this was bad and a waste of so much potential. the Logan and Victor fight was over in a blink, the Laura and Savage fight was over in half a blink, and Graydon isn't impressive and cyborg-Conan. the Quinten detour slowed things down, but this was like the fist time i felt like the Pit Gang served a purpose in fulfilling what was started in the first parts of the trilogy; they trapped Vic in the Audrey Two...now what?
Three parts left, and i'm at a loss. idk where this story is going, there doesn't feel like a resolution is even in focus. i just don't know, and for the third time, it's so hard to care at this point.

Willow 2022 and The Wizard of Oz
This idea was born from the simple fact that the four villains we meet in the first episode are "The Gales" and the primary heroine of the Oz books is Dorothy Gale.
Four Gales. Four witches of Oz. (Also Four cardinal directions, Four winds, Four elements...that's all well and good and worth an analysis post by someone else.)
During the story, one of the four is destroyed. In Oz Dorothy drops a house on the Wicked Witch of the East. In Andowyne, Gradyon disintegrates the Dag.
Tumblr media
Dorothy is separated from her family and whisked away to the Land of Oz. Graydon is flicked away into the Realm of the Wyrm.
Dorothy traveled with her friendly dog Toto, Graydon travelled with his friendly mudmander Kenneth.
Dorothy traveled with a cowardly lion who had more courage than her thought, Graydon traveled with Boorman.
Dorothy traveled with a scarecrow who had more brains than he thought, Graydon traveled with Elora.
Dorothy traveled with a tin woodsman who had more heart than he thought, Graydon traveled with Kit. (and Jade I guess, not sure where she fits)
Dorothy met a Wizard who acted like he had more power than he had, Graydon met Willow.
Dorothy faced down the Wicked Witch of the West and won by trying to save the scarecrow from fire, Graydon faced down the Crone and failed to destroy her with a direct attack (instead of just trying to protect Elora).
It's probably nothing, there weren't two "good gales" in willow and two bad ones. But if season 2 rolls around and Graydon gets something I can equate to the ruby slippers then WATCH OUT!

Book Blurb: "Ciao for Now was an absolute delight to read from start to finish, but a quick warning: This book will make you hungry for pasta, a vacation in Rome, and a lot of steamy romance."  Erin De La Rosa, author of For Butter or Worse When an American interning at a fashion house in Rome butts heads with her professor's surly son, sparks fly! With her thirties rapidly approaching and a mountain of student debt looming over her, Violet Luciano’s dream of finishing design school and working in fashion has cost her everything. So when she lands an internship at an up-and-coming fashion brand in Rome, she brings her A game to Italy. With nothing left to lose, Violet plans to win the competition among the interns for the ultimate prize—a job at a New York label. But when a coffee run goes wrong and Violet accidentally destroys a stranger’s laptop, all of the apology Americanos in the world won’t help her. Because it turns out that the man from the café is Matteo, her professor’s eternally grumpy son, who thinks she’s a clumsy American…and maybe a stalker. Their animosity (and undeniable chemistry) grows as together they’re forced to face a summer of chic parties, adventures through Rome and sharing a home…with the person they can’t stand the most.   The more time she spends with him, the more distracted she finds herself. With her chance to win the competition slipping out of her grasp, Violet has to decide whether to say ciao to Matteo—or ciao to her dreams.
Review:
A summer internship in Italy for a fashion student soon turns into something more when she has an unexpected run in with the grumpy son of her professor. Violet Luciana is in her thirties and has finally decided to chase her dreams, after being dumped by her long time boyfriend for “not being ambitious enough” its time for a change. She is now pursuing her dream of becoming a fashion designer. She is given the opportunity to intern at a fashion house in Rome but she has an unfortunate run in with a cute but grumpy guy at a cafe... who later turns out to be her professor’s son who is going to be living with her and the other two interns for the summer. After accidentally destroying his laptop, and getting a bit of a rough start, what starts off as tricks and banter soon turns into something more as Violet and Matteo spend more time together and begin to not only go on cute dates but get to know each other. This was a cute and fun read, I think it would make the perfect summer read and it really made me want to book a trip to Rome and possibly meet a cute stranger in a cafe. Violet and Matteo were cute, they know how to tease each other but also support one another. Overall, it’s a cute read and perfect for the summer!
*Thanks Netgalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing, Graydon House for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*

The Book Swap by Tessa Bickers
US pub date - 9/3/24
Show me a book about books and I’m there, ready to read it.
Though marked as a “romance”, this is more of women’s fiction with some romance. It’s a book
of trauma, growth, and healing.
I loved the nods to so many classics but I had a difficult time connecting with the characters.
I enjoyed this, but didn’t love it.
Thank you to Graydon House and NetGalley for the DRC
