Yes yes yeah but Chakotay (alternate) has now spent more time with HJ than he ever did with Captain Janeway (also alternate I guess lmao???). So uh riddle me as to why he would give a care about (prime, denoting superior lol) Admiral Janeway no more 🤔
Dw I'll lift up the rug, you sweep s2 under there.
Don't boo me you know I'm right!

Hi! I just read your post about Mateo recently. If I may, can you give me any specific instances in the narrative of the show where Mateo isn’t called out as heavily as they should have? I’m just curious?
During the Shuriki returns arc in particular, Mateo makes some pretty glaring mistakes that I feel like he should've gotten much more flack for (and based on what we see elsewhere in canon, I feel pretty confident that if Gabe, Naomi, Isa, or Esteban at least --and possibly even Elena-- had made these mistakes, they wouldn't have been swept under the rug nearly as quickly as they were for Mateo).
While it's unfair to completely blame Mateo for Carla's manipulating him during the "Rita" arc, I feel like it's reasonable to hold him a *bit* accountable. He did after all blab highly confidential information (on more than one occasion) to try and impress a pretty girl with how clever and important he was. (Something tells me that if any of the others had done likewise, they would've been called out for it. But because it's "beloved" Mateo, we don't even get "wait, you told Rita how to get into your workshop? And you've known her for only a few weeks? What were you thinking, Mateo?") Moreover, he never even apologizes for this or promises to do better/be more careful with such important, sensitive information in the future.
Even more aggravating is his behavior in "The Scepter of Night." Mateo is so eager to play the hero and claim all the glory for himself that he twice (!) disobeys a direct order/abandons the plan and goes looking for the scepter piece on his own. This directly leads to Fiero and Victor finding the scepter piece and (temporarily) stealing it. And it's really only due to luck and very conveniently-timed infighting amongst Shuriki's allies that Elena and co. are able to get the scepter piece back. While Mateo does receive some (brief) criticism, it's nowhere near the level that it should be.
Also noteworthy Elena doesn't really get particularly "mad" at him (especially considering how angry we see her get at other characters even for more minor things) . She's not truly, actually angry at Mateo (and Gabe and Naomi are only a bit angrier); she's just a little frustrated and disappointed at him in the moment. And apart from a (very short) little "do better next time" speech, Mateo doesn't face any real consequences or lingering resentment unlike other characters who do.
When Isa obeys direct orders in "Sister of Invention," she has to face consequences (Elena grounding her). Similarly, Elena holds a grudge against Esteban for days (if not weeks) after he interfered with the Feast of Friendship (a much lower stakes mistake than Mateo's imo). Moreover, it's possible to interpret Esteban's staying behind in Avalor when the others go to see the Norberg Lights as a punishment (either self-inflicted or imposed by Elena) for his actions in the previous episode.
In contrast, Mateo just gets a brief "I expected better from you" speech from Elena and Gabe jokingly assigning him push-ups as punishment (which he immediately takes back when Mateo tries to do them). I'll give Mateo a little bit of credit for actually apologizing this time (which he doesn't always do). But it's still frustrating that everyone is so ready to forgive and forget Mateo's missteps immediately while this same courtesy is seldom shown to others.
I think it's worth directly comparing a few Mateo-centric episodes with a few more similar ones that focus on other characters so that we can see how there does seem to be a noted narrative bias in his favor compared to the others.
Let's start with two "feeling kind of insecure" episodes: "Spellbound" for Mateo vs. "Naomi Knows Best" for Naomi. In the former, Mateo expresses doubt that he's capable of rising to the occasion as royal wizard. No one (except Gabe and he gets over it by the end of the episode) blames him for not having reached his full level of confidence and potential right away and not being able to immediately solve the problem. And Elena in particular (and by extension the narrative) gives him so much validation and support. Whereas in "Naomi Knows Best" (and to a lesser extent "Finders Leapers" and the "Carla-as-Rita" arc as well) the narrative "punishes" Naomi for her feelings of self-doubt. We're told that *if only* Naomi had trusted her gut instincts and stood her ground right away, Elena and co would not fallen right into the trap and that Naomi needs to screw her head back on straight and embrace confidence ASAP to fix her mistake.
When Mateo feels insecure, the narrative gives him every reassurance about how capable and special he is, that he can learn at his own pace, and his insecurity isn't really such a problem after all. When Naomi feels insecure, the narrative encourages her to get over her doubts as quickly as possible because unlike with Mateo, there's "no time" for her to wallow in self-doubt and actually the fact that she even had said doubt in the first place is what "caused" the disaster.
On a slightly different note, Naomi is also called out for taking a little free, fun time for herself in "The Last Laugh" when the group needs her, and yet somehow I have a feeling that Mateo would've been allowed to take a day off if he wanted without any protest. He complains about long hours in "Movin' on Up" and Elena gives him the big royal wizard's chambers for him to relax and unwind in. Naomi asks for one (1) day off to spend with her childhood friend for her birthday , and suddenly it's big drama. (And at the time, Naomi asked for said day off, all Elena needed from her was help doing paperwork. The Team Ash stuff came up unexpectedly.)
Similarly whenever Gabe and Mateo get their little rivalry on ("Spellbound," "Party of a Lifetime," "Captain Mateo" and a few other examples) , the narrative either presents them as equally at fault or Mateo as the only one in the right.
When Gabe brings in Bronzino to train the Royal Guards in magic, it's specifically because Mateo failed to explain how and why he was training the guards in the way he was. If he'd just explained how they were going apply the seemingly basic exercise they were doing to real magic, Gabe likely would've allowed Mateo to continue the training at his own pace.
(Also like. it's super hypocritical imo for Mateo to get annoyed at Gabe feeling impatient/impulsive about their apparent-lack-of progress when Mateo himself is easily the second most impulsive character in the show after Elena.) Mateo feels entitled to keep important information to himself (or blab it to a cute girl he barely knows) even when its no one else's best interest. He's only okay with being "cautious and patient" when he specifically is the one setting the pace. And yet, Gabe is the only one who is called out for his behavior in this episode--even though he might not have acted as he did if only Mateo had trusted him and the guards with an explanation in the first place.
And then there's just a few other "dude not cool" little moments that never really get acknowledged/Mateo never apologizes for. For instance, there a two low-key terrifying Mateo moments in "Captain Mateo" that are not only not acknowledged but are also framed in context as Mateo being just "so funny and quirky". Near the end of "Should be in Charge," Mateo magically gags Gabe so he can't protest anymore about Mateo taking over as leader of the mission. And this is after having already enchanted one of the stationary suits of armor to come to life and fight Gabe. (Gabe admittedly does lightly shove Mateo out of the way during his parts of the song, but that's still a far cry from literally drawing a sword on Mateo as Mateo does via magic to Gabe.)
It's played for laughs (The Grand Council is just smiling happily in the background throughout the scene which is so yikes), so it's easy to overlook what's actually happening. Frankly, it's pretty horrifying that Mateo's natural instinct upon his experience/authority being questioned is to literally attack and then silence. (And attack and silence someone who is supposed to be one of his best friends and closest allies at that!)
Rather than the narrative acknowledging that maybe it's a bad idea to immediately grant power to someone to someone who is so retaliatory against fairly minor criticism, the Grand Council just gives Mateo exactly what he wants and doesn't even offer a "maybe next time, let's not gag or attack our friends, okay?" alongside it. I mean sure Mateo does step down as captain at the end of the episode, but it's very specifically presented as his and Gabe's voluntary choice and not an order from Elena/the Council.
#elena of avalor#eoa salt#it's not mateo that bothers me so much; it's the double standard that nearly every other character is held to while he is not#gabe is the only one who ever seems to call mateo out on his shit regularly#and most of the time; it's framed as petty jealousy and/or gabe being unreasonable#even when gabe is the one talking sense#i feel like i've heard that mateo is one of the writers' faves and dang does it SHOW!#we were owed a dark mateo arc tbh#mateo thinks he's the next alacazar but I don' think it would be all that hard to turn him into the next fiero instead#it writes itself and honestly i would've liked him more that way#instead of just presenting him is as the specialest; cutest; quirkiest magical boy instead#let him go dark for a short time before realizing his mistakes and then have to work hard for everyone's forgiveness#esteban has to sacrifice his life in order to earn forgiveness for an (admittedly huge) mistake he made 40+ years ago#yet it's apparently too much for mateo to get more than the mildest rebuke over a (also big) mistake he made less than an hour ago?#also like whenever esteban or gabe are really proud/cocky or naomi gets single-episode acquired situational narcissism in “my fair naomi”#the narrative absolutely punishes them for it#whereas mateo is free to be as over-confident and braggy and vain as he wants and seldom gets called out on it#because i guess he's genuinely as 'cool and special' as he claims so he deserves the right to brag?#whereas the others' apparently aren't and don't?#anti mateo de alva

You're supposed to ask for help. If you don't ask for help you're never going to get help and you will be condemned for being useless and taking no actions to help yourself. If you ask for help. no one is going to help you. you are not allowed to wish that anyone help you or expect anyone to help you or you are a selfish piece of shit. you are not allowed to wish things were better. You're not allowed to ask for help actually because you are selfish and you didn't think about how others might feel being put in the vulnerable and intimate position of being asked for help. your friends did not consent to being asked for help or explained why you've been having problems and you should have thought about the way they felt before you forced them to read your texts asking them for help. I'm not even joking I should just kill myself because there is actually genuinely no such thing as getting better or getting help or being a good friend ?
#I swear to god I could text you assholes 'i just got stabbed can you please call an ambulance' and you would reply three days later ':/'#you fucking cunts. what is wrong with you#Didn't anyone ever teach your stupid ass how to be a good fucking friend#Stupid stupid stupid stupid#'you can't expect everyone to just drop everything and help you :/'#Look at me. look in my fucking eyes. what is wrong with you#I'm so upset I'm so desperate for any amount of anything please help me what's wrong with me#Why was I specifically built to crave what is apparently not even a thing ?? People aren't friends anymore ?? Like societally ????????#'It's so hard to wake up in the morning I wish someone could knock on my door to wake me up for finals so I don't miss them :('#'awww you want them to bring you food and do your test for you and drive you there and change your diaper too?'#i want to take a long swim in acid. why live. what is the fucking point.#I am nothing. I'm literally insane.#I think I actually genuinely have schizophrenia and none of this is real I've been engaging the delusions a lot because I have no one else#Have I for my entire life just invented friendships that didn't exist. are any of you real. am I even alive.#I'm so angry I just want to be talked to#At the bare minimum. you don't have to love me or like me or help me or care but just talk to me#I'm so angry I feel like a cuckoo chick. born a huge monster who takes and hurts and kills before it can even open its eyes#it didn't know it's a monster it just acts based on instincts.#it was not supposed to be here and it killed the innocent and actual good children in cold blood.#that's what my twin brother was in the womb. i killed him. i was a mistake and a disease and he wasn't strong enough to stop me.

Went to the beach shirtless with my family for the first time in my whole life and all my mom had to say about it was, "so if I get a double mastectomy, can I go shirtless, too?" And I said "yeah" but then went on to say you could anyway, I used tape before etc. and she just did this little sarcastic cheery "embrace the patriarchy!!" in this tone absolutely dripping with malice.
it wasn't worth defending myself then and there in particular but even MY GRANDMOTHER (her mom lol) caught this comment and texted my auntie to say "(mom) is being SUCH A BITCH to jimmie!!!!" and then Grammy texted me later to say how happy it made her to see me shirtless bc she could tell how complete it makes me feel. Thank goodness for her and my aunt. I know so many people who only have moms like this with no aunties and grammies to make up for it.
when your mom is such a transphobic bitch that even grandma can pick up on it 😩 lmao

Hope comes Knocking
Babycorn, Babycorn, Babycorn. Sphene had heard that name before. Only once.  During the first few days after Zoraal Ja’s arrival she had heard him talking to himself. Most of what he said was about where he had come from so Sphene was a little curious about it. She had tried her best to hide herself and listen in.  Of course most of what she heard made no sense to her. It was just names and places she didn’t know. What was she expecting? Something that did give her pause though was how Zoraal Ja wished he could have had one more chance with someone named Babycorn.  …Wasn’t that a vegetable?
ffxiv write day 22 (free day): pinky promise
Dawntrail spoilers!!!
babycorn has some sort of existential crisis and decides to rope sphene into it in a way
After walking around Solution 9 for what felt like forever Babycorn had shyly asked if they could
take a small break. The break came right after she had made a passing comment about how cool a motorcycle on display was.
So the pause coincided pretty well with her resting and Butter running up to try and buy a motorcycle with the gil he had on hand. All while Lunya tried to convince him that buying it at full price wasn’t going to impress Babycorn at all.
One of the only reasons Babycorn hesitated in asking if they could stop was because she hadn't wanted to interrupt Sphene’s tour. What if Babycorn made her mad? She really wanted to be Sphene’s friend.
After everything, Babycorn needed to feel like she had more than anger in her heart.
There were so many thoughts floating around her head that she hated coming from her own head. Back in Tuliyollal she had been scarily close to losing her temper and charging Zoraal Ja for what he had done to Gulool Ja Ja.
She had been mad before, there was no doubt about that, but she’d never been so mad that her body started changing.
Babycorn scratched at the bandages wrapped around her arms. After the attack Tuliyollal on had ended she had told everyone that she had injured herself and that Cherrypit had helped her wrap bandages on her arms.
Cherrypit at the time had been confused why his sister was lying to their friends but Babycorn practically begged him to play along.
How was she ever going to face her friends again when her arms were growing more mouths and eyes on them?
Eyes on the palms of her hands were easy enough to hide at first but after what happened in Tuliyollal they started traveling upwards, burning her arms to a crisp as they did. Thankfully they didn’t hurt, just as Cherrypit’s arms didn’t hurt him.
Maybe her and Cherrypit were more alike than she thought? That was her first guess.
But then why had she sprouted horns and a tail too? Cherrypit wished he could always have those but could never get them to stay on him permanently.
There were more pressing matters at hand however, and Babycorn’s journey of figuring out what exactly was wrong with her and her little brother would have to wait till later. Much later.
Until then it would be just fine to not think about it. Out of sight, out of mind, as Babycorn once heard someone say. If she just hid away the parts of herself she didn’t want to think about, it would be just fine.
Though her arms were able to hide just fine, and the horns were somewhere she couldn’t see, her tail was a whole other matter. Whenever Babycorn almost tripped over her own tail she felt like hiding under a rock and never coming out.
Why was it so hard to be normal? All her entire life she had wanted nothing but that!
Babycorn sighed and looked down at Cherrypit. He was sitting down next to her on the floor, playing with a small doll he had bought during the tour. It was a doll of Queen Sphene, complete with accessories that Cherrypit was too young to play with. Choking hazards and all.
“Speen! It’s Speen!” Cherrypit waved the doll in the air before sticking it in his mouth. That meant he really liked it.
Babycorn was so fixated on watching her brother play that she failed to notice someone sneaking up right behind her.
“Hello? Excuse me?”
Babycorn screamed and leapt up in the air when she felt someone tap her shoulder. The urge to run away was almost overpowering but Babycorn had to be brave! For her little brother! “Who’s there?!” She ran to grab Cherrypit and hide him underneath her arm, sort of like a football.
Cherrypit thought it was really funny. “Haha! Yaay!” He cheered, wiggling his arms and legs around.
Babycorn looked up, expecting to see something horrifying beyond belief, despite their current location. Instead she was almost face to face with the Queen of Reason herself. “O-Oh!” She put Cherrypit down on the floor and watched as he sat right down. “Hi Miss S-Sphene!” Babycorn nervously greeted her.
Was this how you were supposed to greet royalty? A ton of her other friends were royalty too! Had she been saying hi to them wrong all along and they were just too nice to say anything?! Maybe she should just die.
Sphene, unaware of Babycorn’s current inner conflict, continued to speak with her. “Babycorn was it?”
“T-That’s me…” Babycorn answered her. At the same time she was shivering and shaking like a small dog.
Sphene knelt down to try and be on the same level as Babycorn. “Are you feeling any better? I know you said you were tired.” It was easy to tell, considering how far Babycorn had fallen behind in the group.
“I’m fine! I’m feeling fine!” That wasn’t entirely a lie. Babycorn had needed to stop and catch her breath for a few minutes, but now she was feeling a lot better! Aside from the feelings that she was turning into an irredeemable monster but surely those would go away on their own.
Sphene sighed in relief. “That’s good. I was worried my tour had harmed you.” She stood back up looking away from Babycorn. There was no way Babycorn could have seen the guilt ridden look on Sphene’s face. “The last thing I would want to do is harm you or your friends.”
At the mention of friends, Babycorn felt a tug. A burning question that had been bothering her ever since they first stepped into Solution 9.
“Um…Sphene? We’re friends? Right?”
Sphene looked almost shocked to hear what Babycorn had asked her. “Of course!” As if there was any question about it! In Sphene’s opinion anyone would look at them and think they’re friends of course! “Despite our short time together I think of you as a dear friend. My only wish is that you think of me as a friend as well.”
Hearing Sphene tell her that felt like a weight had been lifted from Babycorn’s heart.
But at the same time, there was this odd feeling of obligation. “And friends tell each other everything…”
“Hmm?” Sphene hadn’t quite heard what Babycorn had said. “What was that?”
Babycorn took a deep breath. From what she learned about friends over the years was that trust was a big part of it. Even so she still wasn’t quite sure what it really meant. Of course now that she thought about it–maybe it had something to do with keeping secrets.
And Babycorn had quite a big secret. A bit of a life threatening one considering past events.
If Sphene was going to be her friend then she would have to trust her. Just like all the others were saying before, to make sure that Sphene didn’t have any ulterior motives.
“Miss Sphene? Can I tell you a secret?”
The very second that Sphene gave her the okay–Babycorn told her everything she could think of. About Starsingers, about what happened to her and Cherrypit when they were younger and how they had grown up. At first Babycorn was worried that telling Sphene everything would take much longer than it would.
But as it turned out, explaining to someone you had infinite power inside you coupled with the ability to change the world’s fate and bend it to your will was pretty simple actually.
“...And my name is Chelinka Starsinger!” Babycorn explained at last, “But everyone just calls me Babycorn!”
Sphene was speechless. To think that the universe entrusted that much power to just two people was unbelievable. If not a little unnerving considering the two people that had it. Neither Babycorn and Cherrypit were exactly poster children for makers of good decisions. That much was clear even in the short time they had known each other.
“Chelinka Starsinger…” Sphene repeated Babycorn’s true name to herself. No wonder Babycorn considered her powers a secret. If other people knew about it there was no telling what kind of things she would be forced to do.
Sphene’s gaze grew dark, whispering under her breath. “Had I that power I could…”
“But it’s a secret so you can’t tell anyone! Okay?” Babycorn reminded her. Not that she thought Sphene needed reminding. Someone as nice as her must have a lot of friends and secrets all over her kingdom! It was only natural.
“My lips are sealed!”
Babycorn had no idea what that meant but it sounded reassuring. Even so, there was one way she could make sure that her starsinger secret wouldn’t spread. Not unless Babycorn wanted it to. Babycorn held out her hand, sticking her pinky out.  “Can we pinky promise on it?”
At first Babycorn was worried that because her and Sphene were from different worlds she would have to explain what a pinky promise was. Thankfully Sphene copied her hand movements exactly. “I would gladly.” She nodded.
Babycorn beamed, smiling wide. “Then it’s a pinky promise!”
“It’s a promise! Chelinka.”

Delilah's language (part two)
Previous | Master Post | Next
"Tomorrow?" Danny repeated, glad he had set his cup down.
Mr. Wayne smiled, relieved Danny hadn't completely brushed him off. "yes, it's tomorrow. Damian, my son, is a huge conservationist. he gets it from his mother."
Danny blinked but before he could cut in, Mr. Wayne continued, "Oh! not that I don't care about the environment and stuff, it's just-"
"I get it," Danny reassured. he did not want to get stuck listening to Mr. Wayne try and fail to 'fix' his self-perceived mistake. "but I still don't really understand why you want me there..."
like sure, the kid's a fan of Danny or whatever (he was still trying to wrap his mind around that one.) but would the kid actually want Danny at his party? wouldn't that be like... he didn't know, weird? to just have this random guy from Illinois show up?
"Right!" Mr. Wayne coughed, scratching his face in embarrassment. "once Damian learned that the purple back gorillas would be in Gotham, I suggested we have his birthday party at the zoo. He told me he wanted to know everything he could about their species. so, I invited all the scientists working with the gorillas to the party so he could talk to them."
Danny nodded in understanding when Mr. Wayne glanced at him, even if Danny thought that that was the most fruitloop way he could have gone about it. then again, Danny's pretty sure all billionaires were fruit loops...
"He started digging into their history once he learned about them, and after some digging, he discovered that you basically saved their species. He has declared that he must meet you at all costs. something about needing to know their language?" Mr. Wayne trailed off, looking at Danny as if to see if he knew what his son meant.
If the kid was looking to Danny so he could learn the language then that meant he read the same paper Danny had. the scientists that had dedicated themselves to studying Delilah had printed one claiming that the purpleback Gorilla language was apparently hard to learn. (Even if Danny had been able to understand it pretty easily and told them so.)
they had listed Danny as the only person fluent in it so far, which now that Danny thought about it was kinda rude. they hadn't asked to put his name in there and now look at him! being visited by Fruitloops looking for him to be at their son's birthday parties.
anyways.
so, if the kid, Damian, read the same paper, he must have concluded it would be easier to learn the language from someone who was already 'fluent' than try and teach himself. (something Danny can't blame the kid for, but still.)
"KIDS!" Dad's voice bellowed from downstairs making Mr. Wayne startle and turn to glance down the hall. "IT WORKS! IT WORKS!"
...
"so, when do we need to leave?" Danny asked, all previous paranoia and reservations thrown out the window.
mr. Wayne slowly turned back, his brows furrowed in confusion. "we, uh, we'd have to leave in," he glanced down at his watch, his eyes widening a little, "an hour. I have to leave in an hour."
mr. Wayne then frowned as he looked back up at Danny, "I just need your parent's permission and you can come with me now, or I can arrange for another flight for you later tonight or early tomorrow?'
danny did not want to find out how they were going to test their new machine, so, he turned and cupped his hands around his mouth as he shouted, "HEY MA! CAN I GO WITH MR. WAYNE TO HIS KID'S BIRTHDAY PARTY?!"
it was silent for a second before she shouted back, "SURE! JUST BE BACK BEFORE WE LEAVE FOR OUR TRIP!"
oh, right. his parents had a trip planned for their anniversary. something about a huge ghost or demon trap in Wyoming they wanted to investigate.
"YOU'RE LEAVING TOMORROW THOUGH!" Danny shouted back, "DAMIAN'S BIRTHDAY IS TOMORROW! I CAN'T GO IF I WANT TO BE BACK IN TIME!"
"OH! UH, THEN JUST BE SAFE! TAKE YOUR BLASTERS WITH YOU!"
Danny blinked, then shrugged. He could do that. turning back he found Mr. Wayne staring at the floor, his brows raised and furrowed in concerned confusion. Danny didn't know someone could make a face like that, but seeing as Mom had finally gotten Mr. Lancer to curse in front of him last year, it wasn't that surprising.
"let me pack my bag and then we can get going," Danny announced, standing up and grabbing his cup from the table, silently offering to take Mr. Wayne's as well. the man handed him his full cup and watched as Danny walked away.
well, at least Danny had already told the other ghosts to leave him alone for the rest of the week. they shouldn't get into too much trouble while he's gone. speaking of trouble, Mr. Wayne lived in Gotham, a place riddled with crime and violence.
dupping the cups into the sink, Danny turned and rushed up the stairs. unplugging his phone, Danny sent Sam and Tucker a text to let them know he wouldn't be in amity for the rest of today and tomorrow. he also let them know he'd keep them updated.
once done with that, Danny turned to his closet and rummaged around until he found his old backpack. pulling it out, he dumped the contents onto his desk and made quick work of packing his essentials. Clothes, phone chargers, and ectoplasm in case of emergencies. Mr. Wayne said he'd pay for the travel fair and hotel expenses, so Danny only needed to worry about food.
glancing in the mirror, Danny finally noticed he was still dressed in his pj's. he took a second to debate whether he really cared enough to get dressed properly or not before shrugging. Mr. Wayne's already seen him in them and they're comfy, no point in changing.
zipping up his bag, Danny tossed it over his shoulder and quickly ran downstairs. Mr. Wayne was walking around the room, studying a few of the leftover project pieces that his parents had left lying around. man, Jazz was going to be so annoyed once she learned they hadn't been picking up after themselves. again.
"Alright, Mr. Wayne. I'm ready when you are." Danny greeted, stepping into the room. the man turned to look at him, a strained smile on his face, "Just Bruce is fine."
"Alright, mr. bruce then." Danny agreed, gesturing for the man to start making his way to the door.
mr. Bruce heaved a sigh, shook his head in resignation, and turned to walk out the door. digging his keys out of his pocket, Danny turned to shout into the house one more time, "BYE MA, DAD! I'M LEAVING! HAVE FUN ON YOUR TRIP!"
not waiting for a response, he closed the door and locked it. turning around, he found Mr. Bruce studying him. lifting his brow in confusion, Danny started making his way down the steps and over to Mr. Bruce's fancy car. why the man had a fancy car when he said he'd be flying Danny didn't know, but he's pretty sure it has something to do with image or something.
Vlad did the same thing after all.

OKAY REAL TALK. i'm on episode 5 rn. if this keeps up the way i think it is then this show is such a fucking genius adaptation, and i never would've seen it coming
like yeah, an animated scott pilgrim series authentic to the comics and the story bryan originally wanted to tell would've been amazing too. but when you think about it, SCOTT'S story has already been told to us more than a few times now. even if the live action movie took a different turn by accident, the overall message of "well-intentioned people can still make, and should still take responsibility for, mistakes that hurt those who care about them, and indifference will only end up hurting them back" still sticks for the most part.
but it's mainly been from scott's perspective. which makes sense! he's the main character, so, obviously!! but here's the thing: ramona has ALWAYS served as a reflection of scott's issues. ngl i think this is one of the most consistent things in the entire franchise, and it's why i love ramona so much. as we dive further into her backstory we learn just how much of a wall she's built around herself, how she's afraid of trusting people, but especially that, as sympathetic as she is, she's also caused so much (unintentional) damage herself. although she's introduced as someone literally too good to be true and unreachable by scott's standards, it becomes more and more apparent how similar scott and ramona are, and so they're perfect for guiding each other towards a brighter path.
and what better way to highlight this than to flip the tables completely, putting RAMONA center stage aka making the audience intimately familiar with her immediately, making SCOTT the mysterious damsel in distress/goal at the finish line instead, driving ramona to face the 7 evil exes and making amends with them in a way scott never could???
also can i just say. HUGE SHOUTOUT to the marketing team for hiding this reveal SOOOOO well. like seriously, i was worried they were showing TOO MUCH in the trailers BUT I WAS WRONG. WE GOT PLAYED SO HARD
