How to Resolve Conflicts in a Relationship Without Hurting Each Other
No matter how perfect a relationship may seem, conflicts are inevitable. Disagreements don’t mean your relationship is failing—they mean you are two different people with unique perspectives. One of the things that hurts the most about Roy smacking the fork out of Jamie’s hand at Ola’s — aside from the show wanting to play for laughs what was an incredibly jarring moment. Like, there would have been other ways to accomplish the same joke of ‘haha, Jamie doesn’t know what he’s getting into’ without resorting to as violent a gesture that Jamie — with his known history of abuse and habit of flinching away from sudden potentially violent gestures — had to flinch and protectively cover his hands against his chest, reminding us, the audience, of that history of abuse. Roy could’ve pulled the plate and the fork away. He could’ve eaten the meatball Tom Wambsgans-style. He could’ve even glared him into putting it down.
But no, what hurts the most about that scene at Ola’s isn’t Roy snacking the fork out of Jamie’s hand. Or the waitress admonishing him like making a mess and wasting food was the problem. Or Roy apologizing to the waitress and then telling Jamie to clean up the mess
What hurts the most is in the next cut to him, Jamie actually has cleaned the mess off the wall
#roy kent#jamie tartt#this show’s relationship with abuse is so fucking weird man#I do wonder sometimes if the show thinks of abuse as an extension of the Problems with Masculinity#Rupert’s relationship with Rebecca? abuse. Jane with Beard? played for laughs#Jamie and his dad? well his dad was ‘tough’ and ‘pushed him to dominate’#but there’s an argument to be made that the show doesn’t necessarily think of his dad’s behavior as abuse#so much as an example of ‘how toxic masculinity harms people’#….the show also has weird things to say in how it handles alcoholic dependency and alcoholism in general#so you mix those two things and it starts to make sense how the writers thought a montage moment of reconciliation at rehab was a good idea#because in a show with a handful of examples of characters being abused and other people witnessing or knowing about the abuse#they sure will walk through a variety of metaphors and similes to avoid saying the word#‘he locked you in a tower’#jamie likening his fear to being followed by Freddy Krueger’#Higgins showing concern for beard but then turning it into ‘does Jane make you a better man’#anyways#this got long

Sorry guys I gotta speak my truth on this one
I'm not kidding when I say that I think that blaming shit media literacy from fans on shipping/shippers avoids the actual root of the problem to throw people you can easily throw under the bus (simply because it's not unpopular to consider people who post about ships or ship characters in media as having lesser or derivative tastes by default)
And here's why.
I think when you blame people who are "shippers" or "consume media through shipping lenses", the true root of it all is a mindset problem.
In actually, putting on shipping lenses can be helpful when trying to analyze a piece of media. When analyzing media you're supposed to approach it through a number of mindsets and put on different lenses (both to deepen your personal understanding of the media, and to pick it apart and see what you can find there (whether intentional or not on the author's part)), and different ships can be some of those lenses
When it comes to ships between main characters (for those who are genuinely willing to see what the narrative is showing with their relationship and what it's doing), there are times when analyzing it from a shipping lens may be helpful. As someone from KH fandom, I have seen people come to deeper understandings and pick canon apart in the process of analyzing a relationship that is genuinely integral to the story (platonic or not). I've also seen people get into rarepairs of characters who barely interact or who just suffer little screen time, and I've seen them come to better understandings of those side characters and how they potentially fit into the world of the media simply because people are now focusing on these characters and how they fit into the narrative.
Frankly, I resent the idea that the only way to truly objectively analyze a piece of media is by turning off the part of your brain that gets excited over relationships and individual characters. Don't get me wrong, that is a way to approach a piece of media and a valid one at that, but the truth is that we cannot be free of bias.
For instance, I was watching House MD with my parents circa last year. At some point I started heavily tuning into what was going on with House and Wilson's relationship. My parents, on the other hand, were largely watching casually. They're not thinking of character relationships or getting heavily invested in most characters, they're watching because they like watching. One of them in particular did try to analyze things that were happening in the show as they happened. However, when it came to the scene late in the series where House threw out Dominika's letter approving her American citizenship, my parents could understand that he was doing that because he didn't want her to leave, but not much beyond that. I ended up explaining to them that House's fake marriage for Dominika was an explicit parallel to when Wilson was living with House in the early seasons. Both situations started with House being none too happy about it but ultimately letting them stay, spending a considerable amount of effort getting them to leave/getting this situation to be finally over so he didn't have to deal with it anymore, and then by the time a piece of news comes through that would mean the person in question actually leaves, House hides this news as long as he can. Because he doesn't actually want them to leave and has grown attached. And by doing this he became a self fulfilling prophecy. By reacting to the truth of Wilson and Dominika leaving him the way he does, he seals his fate and they ultimately leave anyways. Maybe I ship Hilson, but becoming open to how their relationship was handled allowed me to transition to doing character studies and recognizing patterns/parallels that I wouldn't have noticed if I didn't particularly care about the characters or their relationship.
Likewise, I've seen mutuals complain about how people who don't like or don't care about certain characters often overlook these characters (what they're actually like and their place in the narrative), while the mutuals in question (by default) are able to come to deeper understanding of what the writers/story is trying to do because they care about this funky guy
You can't eradicate bias when you're engaging in media analysis, but you can consciously put on a range of lenses and observe the media through different povs with the goal of understanding the media better or bolstering your reading of it. And those lenses/povs can include focusing on specific relationships or the perpective of certain characters
And this is why I say it's actually a mindset problem. Shippers and people who have this one blorbo they like a lot aren't inherently terrible "fandom brained individuals" who are the root of media analysis problems. The problem only arises when people's readings/analysis of a piece of media are inherently restrictive/narrow and self centered. Your problem is with people who view a piece of media through a ship they like but don't keep an open mind about it, and whose "media analysis"/views on canon cannot be split from fanon and their comfortability levels. These are the people whose "media analysis" starts and ends with justifying their fanon as canon, whose views on media revolve around sorting characters and relationships into categories they personally enjoy rather than trying to understand what's going on.
Here's another example.
Here we have a fictional ship we'll call uhhhh...Blanebin. this fictional ship I made up on the spot for characters that don't exist named Blane and Corbin
Person A is super into Blanebin. They're part of the main cast of characters and canonically childhood best friends, so person A (as much as they enjoy fanart and fic) is also enjoying analyzing how narratively important to each other they are. Recently, Corbin started dating another character in canon, but Person A is enjoying watching how Blane is reacting to this. "Is this potentially a tell that Blane is jealous or is having complicated feelings about this? What if he was, how would that contextualize his behavior this season? Here's what I think based on how Blane dealt with explicit jealousy last season in a different situation". It's not impossible that person A is still missing further understanding due to their obsession with Blanebin, but at the end of the day this obsession has allowed them to start picking through the characters both in and outside this relationship. It has allowed them to see potential subtext and theorize on what might happen next with these characters' relationship. Not to mention that with addition of Corbin dating someone else, instead of trying to erase this fact or state that Corbin canonically isn't into that person, Person A is trying to factor in how Corbin's current dating life affects his relationship with Blane (irregardless on personal views on the nature of Corbin's relationship with the person he's dating).
Person B is also super into Blanebin. They really enjoy fanart and fic of the characters, love obsessing over their moments together, and just feel like there's really something between the characters. To person B, every moment between them is just further proof that the writers are ship teasing them. But Corbin getting together with someone else this season? Oh that pissed person B off. They cannot believe that even though Corbin and Blane are CLEARLY gay for each other the writers had Corbin get with someone else this season. Perhaps, they think, it was even a decision specifically made to spite fans. How evil of the writers to tease a perfectly good ship and then have them not get together first? They must have been just doing those teases to get views from Blanebin shippers those scoundrels. To Person B, since Corbin started dating someone when he obviously has some chemistry with Blane (even though the series is far from over) means that Blanebin can never get together now and Corbin x person he's dating is ruining Blanebin by existing. In fact, they think, this is terrible writing for Corbin to be dating someone else because they don't like that relationship and don't see the point. Obviously if the writers were good then Corbin would have started dating Blane instead because this was supposed to be the Blanebin show.
Person C despises Blanebin. Don't get them wrong, they've always enjoyed the character's childhood friendship, but they actually have always thought Blane would have been better off with Victoria. They have a lot of moments too! But they're tired of seeing people ship Blanebin. Corbin just got together with someone else, so obviously that's not gonna work out. Plus Corbin and Blane totally has always given person C bro vibes. In fact, person C thinks, sure Corbin and Blane have a close friendship, but people shouldn't be shipping them. Person C likes Blanetoria and Blanetoria can't be canon if Corbin is in the way of it. So Person C likes to read Blanebin as siblings anyways. Sure they're canonically friends, but obviously their friendship turned into brotherhood. This means that nothing can be in the way of Blanetoria and Corbin can keep dating the person he's already canonically dating. Actually, now Blanebin just straight up makes Person C uncomfortable. Don't the pesky shippers understand that Blanebin are sibling coded because they're childhood best friends and that they're important to each other because they're brothers? It's obvious to anyone with eyes.
Sure, ships are involved here, but is the root of this problem shipping? Character A isn't as knowledgeable of other characters in the plot due to this lens they're using, but at the end of the day they're dedicated to analysis. Their love of the characters is pushing them beyond what they like or dislike to try to understand what might be happening through their lens. Not perfect, but they are slowly broadening their horizons. But Person B and C's problems here are their restrictiveness. What is or should be canon to them is tantamount to what they personally like or find comfortable. Is person C actually analyzing the this fake show when they decide to "read" Blanebin as basically canonically siblings (and this all of their moments are totally a bro thing) just because they don't like Blanebin and the idea of them getting together over Blanetoria makes them uncomfortable? Is person B actually analyzing this fake show when their "analysis" of Blanebin goes only as far as asserting it's being ship teased and deciding anything short of canonizing Blanebin is a targeted attack or "bad writing" because it's not what they wanted personally to happen?
This is what I'm talking about. This is the mindset. Shipping isn't the problem. The problem is when people marry fanon and canon to the point where they have a vested interest in superimposing their fanon over canon as "a reading" and trying to make "collective decisions" on what is canon (or what canon is trying to say) based on what does or doesn't make them uncomfortable. The problem is people being restrictive and centering their own likes and dislikes in the conversation, so they can only interact with canon "analysis" wise by deciding what is canon or should be canon "as obviously agreed on by everyone". You can't simply claim you like media analysis. To be able to analyze media and bolster your views on any given canon, you must be open to looking at it through multiple povs, to studying characters without trying to pretend things you don't like don't exist or do like do exist. There is a balance that must be kept between trying to keep objectivity and putting on specific focus/bias based upon the lenses you're putting on. You have to be willing to try to figure out what a media is doing or saying, not saying you're trying to figure out what it's saying while in actuality trying to define the narrative around what people believe it's saying in ways that suit you.
Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
#fandom wank#on the flip side it really just doesn't all happen with shipping#doesn't this go the same way when someone hates a character so they brand them with terrible terms and act like they're terrible without#actually taking a second to analyze them simply because they dislike that character?#Hell I've seen people get really invested in platonic relationships on the fanon side‚ start labeling them as siblings because the idea of#people shipping them makes them uncomfortable‚ and then when new canon doesn't fulfill their hopes they still act like those characters#being siblings to each other is canon because it makes them uncomfortable if that's not true#I've seen people watch a trailer for a piece of media before it comes out‚ build up an entire story in their head based on that trailer#that they've designated as their perfect idea of how to handle concepts presented in the trailer‚ and then when canon doesn't end up going#that way they decide that it's bad writing simply on the grounds that this wasn't the story they wanted. so they unironically act like#writers can only be good writers if the writers play into their specific wants as the audience or things they as an audience member thinks#would be great#genuinely even if people turn off the ship side of their brain or the side that gets obsessed with characters they can still be one of those#people who acts like they love media analysis but ultimately are shit at it#I didn't put this in the body of the post cause it didn't really fit but I have to say this too#I think that 'There are multiple readings one can glean from a text and no reading is the 'true' one‚ and this is okay' and 'not every#reading is a valid one or a good one' are statements that can and should coexist#There is a difference between genuinely reading into a piece of media based on what is happening in it and purposely miscontruing and#twisting canon in a direction that contradicts text so you can then quell all criticism by saying that it's just 'a reading' and#'all readings are valid'#What I'm saying is that if you see a blue car‚ the way you get 'valid readings is people who are determining what shade of blue it is or#what it being a blue car means or the author's intent making the car blue or even speculation as to why it's blue and not potentially other#color. A case of an 'invalid reading' in this case is if someone pointed at the blue car‚ said it's canonically red and the author obviously#intended it to be red and it's canonically red‚ and then when people point out that the car is very much not canonically red (that you#can see it is a very clear shade of blue) this person doubled down and started saying that the 'haters' are being rude by implying that#their personal reading of the text is invalid (in other words 'no you can't get mad at me for saying the blue car is red because it's my#reading of the text and all readings are valid no matter what!')#anyways sorry for going off there#it just pisses me off when people repeat the argument that people who like certain things as fans are inherently unable to perform good#media analysis and are the root of fandom media illiteracy.

i like that we see hints of a sort of intuitive rapport in this scene between mensah and pin-lee! that little forearm touch especially made me go 👀👀
#murderbot tv show#murderbot spoilers#murderbot tv#murderbot gifs#gifs#they way they react to and interact with each other here is so lovely#other moments in the first two eps with them did kinda take me aback/disappoint me like writing-wise i think#it seems like maybe their working relationship is kind of new in the show and p-l is only just coming to start to respect mensah#i wanted p-l to be a little pining and deferential/respectful and it was hard to see them so harsh on mensah in multiple moments#esp since they were so sweet with various other chars.. why are they so aggro/rude and argumentative with her specifically? :(#like okay because they feel comfortable doing so but..that feels..? esp since mensah feels kinda fragile it's hard to watch a little for me#like ik they are stressed but. okay anyway also i am new to gifset making so i'm trying to get better but if these suck i am sorry 😭😭😭#anyway i really hope things will be better between them interpersonally in future eps. i need more of this kinda stuff!! 🥺💛#btw the acting is amazing!! mensah obviously is perfect in every way. & pin-lee is so perfectly acted despite writing elements that i like#a bit less. but like it is so clear that tv pin-lee feels and thinks in a very similar way to book p-l which is super cool#it's just the handling of the interpersonal stuff/dialogue that made me have a kneejerk what happened to my blorbo moment i think#eta okay i have more thoughts and i may write a fic about it but i think some of it is a parallel & contrast with p-l's dynamic with arada#and illustrating that p-l has an immature/unhealthy way of navigating power dynamics/people having diff forms of power over them#and it's easy/safer to push back against mensah (p-l not knowing abt mensah's anxiety or seeing self as harmful/rude) but not with arada..

A few people in the tags on my Agatha romance plot line poll are voicing the same sorts of thoughts I had. I did not like her romance plot line because she had all these lines in the two previous books that, to me and many others, were implying her aromanticism. To have a chapter from her POV where she expresses feeling broken due to a suspected inability to feel that type of attraction only to later have this “resolved” by her finding the right person was extremely frustrating and disappointing.
Even beyond an aro reading of the character, it’s disappointing to see her coupled up at the end of the third book. So much of the first book was about subverting the expectations that come from these types of stories. One of these expectations seemed to me to be not just that the chosen one gets the perfect girl, but that all the characters are neatly coupled up by the end and have romance as a part of their story. In the first book not only is Agatha not with Simon, the chosen one, her supposed destiny, she’s not interested in coupling up and fulfilling that expectation placed on her by the world in which she lives and by the type of story she inhabits, at all. It feels like backtracking on her character growth to watch a romance play out for her in the third book.
#this is made worse to me that Penny also has a romance plot line in the final book#so we’ve gone from book one where some characters couple up#one starts and ends in a relationship that isn’t important to the story or her personal character arc#and one chooses to run off on her own#to book three where all main characters have romance arcs#not my favorite! when I loved the way the first book handled romance plot lines so much#I do think there is an argument to be made that ignoring an aromantic reading#agatha ending up with a woman does not necessarily walk back character traits and development from carry on#because she’s running away from a heteronormative world#but is too trapped within those expectations to yet realize#she may experience attraction to women instead#but 1. when she talks about wishing she had a crush on a girl because it would explain things about her#that feels pretty clearly aromantic to me#and 2. I HATE when a character feels like something is wrong with them because they aren’t falling in love#and the resolution to that conflict is them falling in love#makes my aromantic heart very angry#I don’t say any of this as a dig at people who did enjoy it . Just my thoughts on the matter#Simon says#agatha wellbelove#fine tooth comb

wait. my next fic should be on the theme "its not my fault, but its my responsibility"
and its just a fanfic of kaveh falling for a scam, alhaitham stopping him. kaveh and alhaitham fight about empathy or something. alhaitham very alhaithamly tries logical reasoning to someone very clearly upset that wants emotional support and not a lesson. alhaitham isnt running simulations all the time sometimes he short circuits. his directive to keep kaveh from doing dumb shit pierces through and he forgets hes not supposed to make decisions for a grown ass man. thats stealing autonomy and thats wrong. his own standards btw. mistake 1.
kaveh says something rude to him. alhaitham isnt particularly bothered because emotional people in compromised states tend to do that. he sees kaveh just storming off INSIDE their house and hears nothing heavy moving so no packing to leave, so alhaithams like whatever. kaveh was angry within normal parameters so its fine. the routine will continue.
kaveh unexpectedly has a flashback to their thesis fight and gets really sad and starts spiraling thinking he has irreparably done something to alhaitham again. self blame. good stuff.
alhaitham insight: he wasnt too bothered by the words that kaveh said to him in that fight. he was bothered by the fact that kaveh actually left. and then the words gained meaning after that action. alhaitham had already run the simulations and found that the words in that moment couldve varied but that outcome wouldve been the same. hes had like a decade to process that. every simulation he ran in that time. just to make sure. because that simulation, no matter how it hurt, kept kaveh alive in his memories. its not what looping does to you, but what it can do for you. haha. might as well take advantage of it. if its gonna torture you.
kaveh apologizes. alhaitham thinks its only a minor deviation from their routine and doesnt want it derailed it anymore. kaveh insists on apologizing. alhaitham gets irritated and tells him to drop it. mistake 2. kaveh goes quiet instead of getting louder
alhaitham starts processing because he cares about kaveh and knows he didnt get enough friction and now hes gonna wallow in guilt. so he starts planning the best and most subtle way to be an asshole to kaveh to snap him out of it before he passes the "i deserve it" threshold where he will add onto the blame if alhaitham is rude.
so basically race against time to calculate and execute. high stress. because he loves kaveh. hes voluntarily taking stress because he wants to fix this situation. because he can. because he cares. so he should. thats his morals. his standards. he doesnt care what people will say if they hear about this or what his friends will say. HIS MORALS, aka the ultimate binding factor. autonomy. hes free of any emotional blackmail or anything. but he wants to (remember to nail down hes choosing this)
keypoint: there is no "resolution". it just mutually fades after the routine is brought back into acceptable parameters and it can resume so it concludes.
keypoint 2: it is NOT kaveh's fault. emotion first types do that under high stress and his response is within reasonable bounds
keypoint 3: it is NOT alhaithams fault either. its just circumstance and two beyblades.
that fits my overall theme of exploring normal life. domestic spats are pretty normal.
#avo pls dont start now please please#i still havent done my script for my presentation later today#back to the theme of this fanfic.#yeah the biggest lesson in my life in regards to relationships was that sometimes being right is being wrong#id assume alhaitham already learned that from the thesis argument so this wont be a learning arc kinda fic. its more of application#of this core and very internalized lesson#ooooo this fic will be part 3 of my 'the other side of humanity' series#im so excited to write this but im not supposed to i have so much work#but i want to SO BAD#STOP ME#compelled to create and im the one jacking off to this I WIN IM SO BACK#its ambitious because i dont write long fic#because im stupid and i dont know how to handle multiple scenes in one story#but i want to give it a go

i don't wish to cramp the style of the arcann girlies & i'm glad they're having fun. on the other hand i can't treat arcann as a serious romantic option whatsoever. like he got out of dictator rehab six months ago. emotionally he's kyle, 15, who just weaned himself off of putting his fist through his bedroom wall when he loses at dejarik. the thought of him trying to carry on an adult relationship is very very funny to me
#has he even had sex before? i don't believe it#he had too many extracurriculars going on#i can't even think of who he would have been friends with outside of his literal siblings#does he surf the zakuulan holonet? go on zreddit??#i don't think he would be able to emotionally handle a normal adult argument about something#like if the commander was stressed & got a little short with him i think he would freak out and assume they were breaking up#which is fine btw. like i absolutely think arcann could learn normal interpersonal skills & become a complete person#but a mature romantic relationship right out the gate?#with the commander of an autonomous paramilitary organization??#he would have an anxiety attack#swtor

have finished scott pilgrim takes off!!! i have many thoughts
#random thoughts#scott pilgrim#okay first off: where's stephen stills' boyfriend :[#like i get the main point of stephen and joseph's relationship is to show how self centered scott was#like one of his main friends had a whole gay revelation and got a boyfriend and he didn't even notice because he was caught up in his stuff#and since the show is a diverging timeline and they don't even end up recording the album for sex bobomb there's not really anything for him#to like. do. both plotwise and thematically#but cmon :[[[ i miss joseph he's such a bitch i love him#i still think matthew's characterization is a little questionable but overall i think he's an enjoyable character#the main problem i have with him is he has that chaturbhuja-inspired powerup because he's indian#but 1. him being indian never really influences his character or backstory beyond 'he was the only poc in school so i dated him'#and 2. none of the other characters have powerups related to their race or ethnicity? the closest i can think of is the vegan and veganism#is a CHOICE dude? and the whole 'he used his mystical powers to defeat the jocks' thing still makes it sound like his powers#are BECAUSE he's indian rather than just a part of the worldbuilding like the others#wait hold on back to joseph. wallace had his whole moment in the eighth episode where he met mobile#why didn't stephen and joseph get a moment :[[[#overall i like scott pilgrim takes off but i do think the weakest part narratively is scott himself#like the reason i like the og comic is because you get to see scott act all shitty and selfish and then you see him grow#like he represses and rewrites his own memories because he can't handle being a bad person#but in the show he disappears so fast and continues to haunt the narrative so you don't get to SEE him do anything bad really#yknow beyong cheating on knives with ramona which ramona never confronts him about#like in the comic that's a big moment which leads to her disappearing and their eventual reconciliation#but in the show they never really have any big arguments? beyond ramona doubting whether she should date scott in the eighth episode#their relationship lacks ANY conflict despite being the thing which incites the main conflict of the show!!!#plus they really damper scott's relationships outside of ramona to make it seem like scott and ramona's relationship is this big thing#to make it so ramona's pursuit of this guy she went on ONE date with make sense for plot reasons#like ramona's whole thing is running away why does she want to keep scott so bad??? obligatory sparks#maybe it's because scott's the one who did the disappearing. idk#anyway wallace was done dirty by the show. why'd they make him so mean to scott#in the comic he's scott's main enabler!!! he's the one who suggests many of the bad things which scott does!!!

No but I said I should take a break from Turning-verse because I didn't know if I could handle the angst coming up but. I remembered we're approaching the MS arc.
And. and. god that's. that's just so PERFECTLY appropriate a backdrop for their issues with secrets and risk and personal lives and shame and everything and I can imagine EVERYTHing ughhhhhh
(Like!!!!!! there's literally a scene where Josh is trying to rattle off polling numbers and figure out how to discern EXACTLY how to reveal the ~secret~ for minimal damage and CJ just! laughs!!! because 'dude none of that matters. he lied. nobody is going to forgive that. we're done.' !!!!!!!!!!)
#theyre gonna have to be ADVISING THE PRESIDENT on how to handle this PR situation#meanwhile one time they got into a SHOUTING ARGUMENT over exactly this same kind of situation involving their candidate!!!!!!!#and like theyre not in their 20s and in an extremely dysfunctional relationship anymore lmao#BUT#oh my god. oh my god the conflict of INTEREST#ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh#tww

Babygirl, this is Brucie Wayne we're talking about. You honestly think no one has hit his kids with that shit before? The first time Clark does it, he gets the instant clapback of "Yeah? Well, so has half of Gotham. You're not special, bitch."
Clark is speechless.
Bruce and Clark start dating and Clark finds himself spending more time around the batkids and whenever he's losing an argument he just says "yeah? well I fucked your dad."
It's very effective.
#he thought he had a trump card#but those bitches hit him with a uno reverse#like#not to slutshame or anything#but brucie wayne has been slutting it up long before he even knew clark kent existed#its unrealistic to think his kids never had to deal with someone trying to use that against them#plus we all know our favorite himbo has literally no shame#those kids have seen some shit#clark thought he could play with the big boys#but he shouldve known he could never out petty the batfam#little does he know theyve all been going easy on him this entire time because they know he wouldnt be able to handle any real heat#its how they show their approval#selina genuinely feared for life in the earlies of her relationship with bruce#clark is just mildly inconvenienced by increasingly petty arguments

Susannah: Yes. Yes, he did risk himself. We all did. A lot of it... OK, a bit half-assed but at least... some of it will stick! You have to try. It's not going to work any more, running for the same old burrows... we're rafting off into space - God! Frank sees it. He said to me one day, 'Suse... you know what's going to do for us all? Not the failure of intellect, moral, muscle - but the failure of imagination! They're all too busy with their snouts in the trough to smell the fire.'
Crystal: Yeah, he says some really daft things.

Pam Gems, Loving Women (1984)
#100plays#pam gems#loving women#modern drama#theatre quotes#1984#Gems was known best for her adaptations of older works and for her biographical plays (including the phenomenally successful Piaf in 1978)#but she consistently produced original work too‚ tho with less commercial success. this comes from her middle period and is often described#as a comedy about a love triangle; which it is‚ really‚ but that somehow feels like a dismissive way to describe a play that can just as#often raise challenging questions about the nature of activism and social change‚ the complicated way that personal relationships and#polemical discourse can influence one another‚ and the inadequacy of passion alone (both in love and in politics) without a solid#foundation. neatly split into three sections at different points in the characters' lives‚ the first and third might more easily be#described as romantic comedy; the majority of the second scene‚ however‚ is a vicious argument between idealists at odds (or a#revolutionary and a lapsed revolutionary‚ maybe). our three characters are Frank‚ an activist social worker who has recently (at the#beginning of the play) suffered a nervous breakdown‚ his radical coworker and lover Susanne‚ and Crystal‚ the working class hairdresser who#has agreed to nurse Frank in return for a roof over her head. the first scene sets up the love triangle and suggests the disharmony to come#but it is the second scene‚ one year later (and with Frank having left Susanne for Crystal‚ apparently without even breaking up face to#face) (Susannah! sorry not sure why i keep writing Susanne); anyway this is the standout scene‚ a furious showdown between the newly#domesticated Frank and the woman he spurned. there is personal enmity on Susannah's part of course‚ as well as entirely reasonable#frustration at how Frank handled the affair‚ but the argument quickly becomes centred on issues of political dogma‚ his perceived betrayal#of 'the cause' (as well as her) and what he perceives as her naivety and tunnel vision in approaching the work they once shared#it is a shamelessly intellectual segment‚ full of angry‚ verbose tirades on the state of the nation and the futility or necessity of#radical action and subversive agitation‚ sparkling dialogue that demands to be spat with venom (and contrasted completely by a much gentler#meeting between the 2 characters a decade later in the final scene). part of Gem's beauty‚ tho‚ is that she never entirely loses the humour#of the piece‚ allowing for amusing asides like the one above (Crystal enters and leaves several times throughout the argument‚ clearly#uncomfortable with the situation). on the surface it might seem like Crystal is a mildly patronising character‚ unable to keep up with the#idealogical slant of the conversation‚ but as Frank makes clear‚ in many ways she's the most real of the three of them; not having the#privileged middle class background of the others‚ her seeming disinterest in revolution is borne of necessity‚ the necessity of first#staying alive (ie. feeding herself‚ finding a roof to sleep under‚ etc) leaving her little time to engage in the largely theoretical#grandstanding of the two socialists she's fallen in with.

restless nights.
you get into an argument and they become restless without you by their side.
angst with comfort. apologies for any ooc moments and stubborn mc/reader.
sylus

"I'm not taking you with me."
His words left no room for anymore rebuttals. No matter how persistent you got and what reasoning you gave, Sylus continues to reject your request to join him for the upcoming Onychinus mission.
He's never had a problem with you tagging along before, so why now? You've learned from Luke and Kieran that Sylus will be dealing with one of the most dangerous men they'd ever met, so you wanted to support him. When you brought the topic up to him, all he said was that the setting will be too much for you.
You reassured him that you can handle anything, being a hunter who's familiar with the messiest, most vile types of environment, but regardless of your reasonings, he fully intends to go to this mission alone.
"Okay."
The moment he watched you calmly closed the door on your way out of the room, Sylus knew he fucked up.
You avoided him all afternoon, and it didn't take long for loneliness to strike him hard.
He hated the silence.
Knowing you're under the same roof and yet you're deliberately ignoring him... he'd much rather have you screaming at him.
Sylus remained at his working station to continue modifying a weapon that he'd recently purchased; however, his distracted state prevented him from making progress.
The face you made before walking away from him keeps haunting him.
The disappointment in your eyes made his chest unbearably tight.
He tried to push the uncomfortable feeling away, telling himself that his response to you is for the best, but it didn't work at all.
It was difficult to concentrate on anything else.
He wondered what you were up to.
What if you decide to leave because you can't stand to be near him?
Just imagining you rush out of the house while angry caused Sylus' hands to become unsteady and accidentally crossed some wires that weren't supposed to touch.
And so, the weapon sparked and caught on fire.
"...great."
He decided to move on to boxing, hoping to release some anger — not at you, but for his enemies that he'll be seeing for the upcoming mission. If they weren't so... filthy and gruesome, he wouldn't have to worry about keeping you away from them.
After two minutes of hitting the punching bag, Sylus' eyes started to repeatedly glance towards the entrance of the gym, checking to see if a certain someone would walk in for their weekly boxing lessons.
Your boxing gloves are in the usual place, untouched. He recalled the day when you two bought it while shopping: you were so excited about using it, you woke him up early just so you could start boxing while wearing them.
But now, you won't even step in the gym because he made you upset.
Suddenly, Sylus was no longer in the mood to box.
You didn't join him for dinner.
He wasn't surprised, though he felt another pang at his chest when he sat down on the empty dinning table.
He learned from Luke and Kieran that you had already eaten a little earlier while ranting to Mephisto, who was your only companion for supper.
The crow gave him a questioning look as he flew by and parched on the empty chair next to him, where you usually sit.
"I know. I'm working on it."
Sylus went to his bedroom, hoping that you don't run away and that you hear him out.
But when he opened the door, a cold breeze hit him along with a lonely feeling. The room is empty, and you're nowhere to be found.
He knew you're still somewhere in the house; otherwise, Mephisto would've told him already that you'd left. You staying means he's not totally screwed — not yet, at least.
The only other place he thought to check is the room where you used to sleep in, before your relationship became official.
And sure enough, after calming down his nervous, hitched breath, Sylus knocked on the door.
No response, but the room is unlocked.
He dared to take a peak inside and immediately softened at the sight of you sleeping on the bed. His feet acted before his mind and walked up towards your side.
He sat down on the mattress and his eyes slowly traced the ravishing features of your face that he missed, despite the argument being only just several hours ago.
He yearned to touch you, just for a second, to feel your warmth and softness. His right hand carefully reached towards your face, knuckles aiming to brush against your cheek.
But then, you opened your eyes.
Sylus froze for a moment, waiting for you to tell him to leave and stay away from him, but instead, you just blinked at him with curiosity and a hint of amusement.
"What are you doing?"
"...caught me redhanded." he chuckles. "I was looking at you. Because you wouldn't let me do it while you were awake. Sorry to disturb your peaceful sleep."
You watched his hand that was about to touch your face slowly retract, and you wanted to grab it and embrace it.
"...who said I was sleeping peacefully?"
Sylus looks at you with confusion.
"It's hard for me to sleep whenever we have arguments." you murmured, sitting up slowly so you can look at him properly. "I wanted to see you, but..."
You were sulking all afternoon.
You grew tired of arguing with him and thought you'd eventually find the right words to tell him later on, once you've calmed down.
"Me too." Sylus slowly reached for your hand, almost afraid that you'd pull away, though he relaxed once you intertwined your fingers with his. "Let me tell you why I'm against you accompanying me for this mission."
He told you about the shady people he'll be visiting. They are nasty criminals who have done unforgivable things to people, and everything about them is just disgusting — physically and figuratively.
As much as he wanted your company and assistance, Sylus doesn't want them setting their filthy eyes on you. He doesn't want them to know about your existence at all.
Mostly, he doesn't want to waste your time and energy on people like them. He knows you're strong enough to be by his side and help him take them down, just as you have done a few times before, but he'd much rather keep you away from their dirty hands.
"I understand now." You tightened your grip on his hand. "And still.... I want to go with you."
Though his brows furrowed as a silent reply, he stayed quiet and allowed you to fully let out everything you want to say.
"I appreciate your concern for me, truly. But ever since the twins told me about them, that they're dangerous and full of dirty tricks, I can't help but worry.
You're strong and you definitely don't need me, but still... I asked to go with you because I want to support you, just like how you sometimes help me out with my missions."
Sylus was met with the familiar look of persistence and determination in your eyes and realized he was never going to win this argument.
You've always been stubborn.
But that's just one of the reasons why he's so infauted with you.
You win.
"I should have known better than to try to leave you out of something like this." he sighs in defeat, shaking his head and pinching the bridge of his nose.
You grinned at his tone. "It'll be fine. And fun — maybe. If not, then I'll suffer with you."
He clicked his tongue and poked your forehead. "Fine. But before we go, you have to prove to me that you're capable of fighting them."
"Hmm? Prove to you, how?"
"You'll have to join me in the boxing ring tomorrow, kitten."
You gasped and your eyes lit up. "My gloves! I've abandoned them! Let's go boxing right now!"
"...weren't you just about to sleep?"
"No way! I wanna hit something now! Come on!"
Sylus allowed himself to be dragged out of the room and brought back to the gym, where the boxing ring awaits.
Unlike earlier, the gym appears to be warmer and much more lively.
At last, Sylus can breathe easily.
zayne

Getting scolded by your lover was not how you were expecting your trip to the hospital to go.
He never raised his voice, but the coldness in his tone was what struck you in the chest.
He reprimanded you for being too reckless and careless at work, stating that you need to pay more attention to your surroundings and not throw yourself in danger at any chance you get.
Maybe you caught him in a bad mood, or maybe he was fed up with all the times that he has to see you with injuries. Either way, you didn't feel like being around him for a while.
Later that night, you fell asleep earlier than usual and missed a call from Zayne. You knew you probably should've called him back once you woke up in the morning, but the memory of him scolding you like a child made you throw your phone aside and momentarily avoid him.
Zayne is wide awake and his eyes are glued to the screen of his phone.
For once, he doesn't have work to keep him up late at night. Instead, you're the reason why he's unable to sleep.
You haven't been returning his texts and calls.
He knew you're upset because of what he did at the hospital. He shouldn't have spoken to you like that. You were already hurt. The last thing you needed was for him to give you a lecture over something you don't have much control over.
Zayne wanted to apologize to you.
He considered going to your apartment so he can properly give his sincere apology, but with the way you've been deflecting his attempts to communicate, he figured you wanted some space from him.
It's understandable that you'd feel that way, but still, Zayne can't ignore the aching in his chest. The other side of the bed feels colder than usual, and the silence of his house was uncomfortable.
You should've been next to him, resting your head on his chest while showing him funny memes and videos of cats after playing silly games on your phone, then you'd randomly come across an interesting article that would be your discussion until the two of you fall asleep.
This time, all he can do is keep checking his phone, just in case you decide to text or call him, and he'd answer in a heartbeat.
He wanted to hear your voice just so knows that everything is going to be okay, and that he doesn't need to worry about the possibility of losing you. Unfortunately, he wasn't granted that wish.
He eventually fell asleep with his phone on hand resting on the empty side of the bed.
Zayne was right.
You really are careless.
Showing up at the hospital twice in a week, just two days after your previous visit, is embarrassing at this point. You admit that your mind wasn't as awake and alert as it should've been, and so you've landed yourself another injury while fighting a Wanderer.
You did your best to hide from Zayne.
In fact, you tried going to a different hospital but Tara dropped you off here and fled instantly, so you have no choice but to go in with your slightly injured shoulder.
It just so happens that Doctor Greyson was the one that treated you, as he was the only one currently available.
You thought you'd be able to leave without seeing Zayne at all, but Greyson was unaware of your current situation so he informed him that he just finished fixing you up and you should be free to leave now.
Zayne just finished a long surgery, but once Greyson passed such valuable information to him, he rushed to your assigned room.
He caught you just as you were about to step out.
"Ah!" You put a hand over your racing heart. "You scared me!"
"Sorry." Zayne paused for a moment. "May I ask you to join me in my office?"
Your stomach shifted anxiously. "Sure..." The walk to the location was filled with nothing but awkward silence, which hurt to think about because it's Zayne.
That's the man whom you love more than anything else.
The last thing you want with him is an uncomfortable silence.
At the very least, you were able to gather your courage to own up to your mistakes.
Once he closed the door...
"I'm sorry!"
Zayne was caught off-guard.
"What?"
"You're right. I've been careless lately." Your shoulders sagged as you accepted defeat. "Like my injury today could've been avoided if only I was a little more cautious. I really do need to work on it better. I'm sorry for ignoring your texts and calls. I know you're just looking out for me."
Zayne let out a breath of relief.
He failed to stop himself from pulling you into his arms, so tight that you let out a gasp, though you didn't complain so he didn't release you just yet.
He desperately needed to hold you.
He was afraid that you might not want to see him anymore because of the way he had spoken to you, but it seems he'd gotten a chance to correct himself.
"I'm sorry for talking to you so coldy." He backed away just a small distance so he could look you in the eyes, though his hands remained locked on your elbows. "There are much better ways to express my concerns for you. I won't make the same mistake again. But also..."
He took your left hand and kissed the back of it. "Please don't ever try to hide your injuries from me whenever you do get hurt."
"Ah...." you wondered how he found out you were trying to hide from him today. "Sorry. I won't."
Zayne smiled and kissed your forehead.
"I'll accept your apology, on one condition...."
"What?"
"You have to spend the night and the whole weekend with me now. To make up for the times when you weren't by my side."
caleb

"I did it to protect you."
"And now, the fleet has all the access to the information that I was supposed to get. But yes. I was so fortunate that The Colonel came to my rescue. Thanks."
Caleb sighs as you shut the door and locked yourself in your own room of his house in Safehaven.
It's true that he interfered with your mission and you failed to do what you were sent for, but the man you were interrogating was equipped with a weapon that could've left you permamently injured.
What was he supposed to do?
He wasn't going to just watch and wait for you to get hurt.
The man just happened to be a common enemy of the fleet and the hunters association, and it seems that you've crossed paths for a race on whoever could capture him first.
While you technically reached him first, Caleb was the one that took him away and had him in captive with the fleet.
He figured he could just find that man and get the information you need, though it seems your mission was time sensitive and you were supposed to report to the association by tonight.
While he feels bad about you failing to accomplish your mission, he doesn't regret barging in to stop the enemy from hurting you.
His priority has always been you and it will always be you.
Everything that he's ever done is to protect you, even if you're against it. That's why this isn't the first time you've fought.
Ever since you were younger, you'd sometimes get mad at him for doing something that was intended to keep you out of harm's way.
It's nothing new.
Still, no matter how many times it happens, Caleb will always hate the feeling of you being upset with him.
He especially cannot stand it when you pretend he doesn't exist. He'd rather you hit him as hard as you can than act as if you don't see him. Otherwise, what other purpose does he have, if not to provide for you and be by your side?
Caleb made dinner for two, but he's the only one in the dinning room, sitting across an empty chair. It's dead silent aside from the noise of the flying vehicles roaming around outside his house.
He already put food in your plate and filled you a glass of juice, just in case you give in to his attempt to lure you out with the delicious smell of tonight's meal.
Caleb took his time eating. He had sent you texts, with lots of stickers, telling you that dinner is ready and that you can come out of your room now, though not a single message had gotten a reply.
His eyes would constantly dart to your closed door, hoping that it would open and you'd stubbornly come out with a pout on your face, just like what you always do ever since you were little.
He wasn't so lucky tonight.
But that doesn't mean he'll let you starve. You can be mad at him, but at the very least, be angry with a full stomach.
Caleb picked up your plate and drink and set it down on the floor right outside your room.
"Pip-squeak." He knocked a couple of times. "It's fine if you don't want to see me. You don't have to forgive me, but please eat something before you sleep. I'll leave the food outside the door."
He paused for a moment, as an apology almost slipped out of his tongue, though he wants to do it properly when you're face-to-face, so he will wait for a better time.
"Goodnight."
Afterwards, Caleb took a long bath before going to bed. You two had plans to watch movies tonight after your mission, but that was definitely not going to happen now. He had no idea things would end like how it did, and now he's staring at a wall feeling empty.
Around midnight, you quietly stepped out of your room. You brought the dirty, empty dishes back in the kitchen so you can wash them and return them in the storage.
Five steps in the dark kitchen and you almost drop the fragile items on your hands.
There's something lurking in the shadows.
"Ah!"
Your right hand swung up to hit the figure that started to walk towards you, ready to hit them with the plate.
The object was caught easily and snatched right out off your fingers. The light switch clicked and soon your eyes had been greeted by bright white light.
And you learned that the figure that had been bathing in darkness is none other than Caleb, who looked just as freaked out as you.
"Why are you still awake?!" you screeched, putting a hand over your pounding heart. "Why are you out here just standing in the dark like some demon?!"
"I wasn't standing in darkness. I was sitting." he huffs, putting the plate on the counter table. "And I should be asking you the same thing, Pip-squeak. Why are you awake?!"
His eyes suddenly widened and his shoulders stiffened.
"You're...not gonna leave, are you?"
He looked like a sad, kicked puppy that made you feel like a super villain.
"No, I'm not leaving." you replied softly, taking a step closer to him after setting down the empty glass of juice on the counter table. "I was just going to wash these... dinner was delicious.... by the way..."
Caleb let out a sigh of relief before a smile came to his face. "I'm glad you liked it. If you still have room in your stomach, wanna go for dessert? I still have some of the ice cream that you bought last time."
Your eyes lit up at the mention of the sweet dessert. "Yes!"
As the two of you enjoyed the ice cream, Caleb took the opportunity to talk about what happened.
"I'll admit that I don't regret interferring with your work to save you from getting hurt." he started slowly, watching you just in case your mood flips again. "But I am sorry for getting you in trouble."
You shook your head. "I'm over it now, but... you have to remember that I'm also capable of dealing with dangerous guys. I may get hurt, but it's part of my job. You don't have to jump out and save me every time, even though I appreciate it and you, every time."
Caleb sighs, recalling you repeating similar words to him before.
He really does jump out of nowhere to save you a lot — in fact, anytime he can, he does it.
"You're right. I know you've gotten strong, Pip-squeak." he grinned, patting your head. "I'll be sure to remember it. But also, you have to remember... worrying about you is part of my job. That'll never change, even if you become the greatest superhero of the deepspace."
"Heh."
You can't help but laugh because it's true.
That is just how Caleb is.
And it's one of the things that you love about him, despite all the times he pissed you off by being over protective.
"If I become the greatest superhero of Deepspace, will you bring me more ice cream?"
Caleb laughs at your empty bowl. "All you have to do is ask and I shall obey, Pip-squeak."
Once drowsiness finally hit you, you returned to bed and this time, Caleb made sure to cling to you the entire time.
rafayel

You'd been extremely busy for almost two weeks because of a big, intricate mission. It left you very little time to rest, and absolutely no time to go out with your lover.
But once you finally got some freedom, the first thing you did was give him a call, asking him out for lunch.
"It's okay, Miss Bodyguard. You don't have to see me if you don't want to. I know you've been really busy to make any time for me."
Maybe he was just joking or being dramatic as usual, but something about his tone rubbed you the wrong way.
"Okay then. Bye."
The moment the call ended, Rafayel wanted to throw his phone at the wall.
Why did he say that?
He'll admit that he has been sulking, disappointed that he hasn't seen you for days; however, he knows it's not your fault. You're just doing your job, after all.
His mood hasn't been the best lately, and he ended up saying the wrong thing to you. Now, he scared you away from him even more.
He wanted to see you and apologize, but you sounded quite mad and he's certain you don't want to see him at the moment, so it's probably best to leave you alone for now.
Thomas entered the studio and almost tripped over a paintbrush on the floor. The place is even messier than before.
He found Rafayel lying on the couch, wide wake and staring at the ceiling.
"Your studio's getting way too messy. Maybe you should clean up a little."
"It's fine. No one's going to come over anyways."
Thomas was quick to notice his dispirited tone. Rafayel already seemed lonely last week, but this time his mood seems worse.
Another proof of that is the lack of progress on the paintings.
"You haven't started anything new yet?"
"I haven't had any inspiration."
The one hint that Thomas got about what was bringing Rafayel down is the yellow bird plushie right next to him, who he may or may not have been talking to.
"So, it's your Miss Hunter, isn't it?"
It's happened a couple of times before. You two have gotten into arguments before and it usually ends in the same way, with Rafayel sulking like this. This time, it might've lasted longer than usual.
"I don't know what happened, but I suggest seeing her and talking it out."
"I know that. But if she doesn't want to see me.... what if she starts screaming and hitting me when I'm there?"
Or worse, you tell him you hate him.
His stomach tightened with discomfort just by thinking about it.
Thomas chuckles lightly. "So what? You can take it, can't you? Then again, she is a hunter.... and she could kill you...."
Rafayel frowned and froze for a moment.
Then, he suddenly rolls over and drops to the floor before jumping to his feet. "Thomas, you're a genius!" he exclaims, grabbing him by the shoulders and shaking him vigorously. "I don't care if she stabs me with her sword! I'd survive. but... if I go on another day withour seeing her, I might actually die for real..."
"Hh — sure, I guess..."
"I'm gonna go see her now!"
Thomas watched as he started to scramble and sprint out of the room. "Wait, you should clean up first before — "
"Ow! Who put this paint brush here?!"
You opened the door and Rafayel immediately shields his face with his hands, as if to protect himself from you.
"....I don't know what's going on but I'm a little offended."
You wanted to laugh but you reminded yourself that you're still mad at him.
Or at least, you were.
The moment Rafayel showed up at your doorstep, all you want to do is hug him.
"If you're gonna stab me, do it quickly but at least wait until I say sorry first so it doesn't sound like I'm using my last, dying breath to make it up to you. I mean, I would do that too if I must, but I'd prefer if I don't sound pathetic and gross."
"...what?"
Rafayel pulled himself together and held both of your hands.
"I'm sorry for what I said. I promise I didn't mean it at all. I just missed you a lot and... I.... I might've been...a little grumpy because of it... but I still shouldn't have spoken to you like that. I'm really sorry."
You softened and held his hands tighter. "I'm sorry too, for snapping so fast and running away. I also wasn't in the best mood."
Rafayel didn't waste another second before pulling you into his arms.
"Let's not do that again. It's stupid and silly and boring."
"Agreed."
He buried his face against your neck and held you tighter for a little longer while your fingers brush his hair from the back.
Rafayel took a moment to feel your warmth.
You're here, right in front of him, after days that felt like months.
Letting you go will be extremely difficult.
"Miss Bodyguard...."
"Yeah?"
"Do you wanna come to my house? Reddie misses you...
"Just Reddie?"
"...well, I missed you way more, but you can spare him five minutes of attention. But that's it. The rest of your time is mine."
xavier

For your latest mission, Jenna paired you up with a new hunter that just joined your team. She said she wanted him to learn from you, so he became your temporary partner.
Xavier wasn't quite happy with the captain's decision.
Jenna never said he couldn't join you, right? The new guy can keep following you, but that doesn't mean he has to be alone with you.
Fast forward to the end of the mission, Xavier had been so focused on making sure the new guy keeps a fair distance from you, and the newbie almost got hurt.
You took responsibility and jumped in at the very last moment to save him, leaving you with a minor scratch on your left arm. Nonetheless, the mission was a success.
You confronted Xavier afterwards. You didn't care at all about the scratch, but you were more concerned with him letting his jealousy get in the way of the mission.
Captain Jenna scolded him about not following orders. Although she never specified that he couldn't join you, he still messed with the plan that the team discussed early on. Luckily, he's not deeply in trouble: he'd only been warned not to do it again.
You mostly repeated what Jenna said, but you also told Xavier that he shouldn't have gone out of his way to physically keep your temporary partner away from you, and that you wished he trusted you a little more, especially in a professional environment.
Xavier was unable to come up with a response and like always, whenever he's jealous, dark clouds appeared all around him as he sulks.
You didn't feel like cradling him at the moment, mostly because you felt tired from the mission, and you needed to cool your ahead after all that happened.
You went straight to your apartment after work. Soon after taking a shower, you landed on your bed and welcomed a nap.
Xavier anxiously paces back and forth in his apartment.
He knows you're sleeping because of the fitness watch app that you both use. He decided that he'll wait until you wake up before apologizing, so at the mean time, he's practicing in his head what he'll be saying to you.
You two rarely have arguments because he'd learned to be more straightforward with his thoughts and feelings, but when jealousy comes into play, he still struggles to contain himself. He's working on it, but he's having quite a slow progress.
He'll admit that he might have gone a little overboard today, and he hated that his actions led to you getting hurt, even if it's just a scratch. If only he hadn't gotten in the way.
"...I'm going now."
Unable to wait any longer, Xavier teleports out of his apartment and appears on your balcony — it's become a habit of his.
He found you sleeping on the couch of your living room.
Xavier walked up to you quietly and covered your body with the throw bunched up by your feet. He knelt down on the carpeted floor and admired your features.
He knew he shouldn't get jealous so easily, but how could he not?
He's so deeply in love with you, he can't help but act irrationally sometimes.
But even more, he despises whenever you're upset with him and because of him, so he knows he can't keep behaving drastically all the time whenever another person who shows an ounce of admiration for you comes around.
"You smell like burnt cookies."
Xavier snapped out of his thoughts only to realize that you had woken up.
He took a whiff of his white hoodie and confirmed your observation. "I tried to make you some cookies to make up for earlier but I got distracted and forgot about them...."
And by distracted, he means pacing back and forth across the kitchen while writing his apology speech in his head.
"Pfftt.."
Xavier scratched the back of his head while you laughed loudly. His eyes lit up at the sight of your joy on your face.
"I'm sorry about your cookies." he sighs. "And I'm sorry for acting the way I did earlier. I promise I'll... try not to get jealous..."
You laughed again, this time softer as you leaned forward to brush his hair with your fingers. "The truth is, I don't mind that you get jealous sometimes. Even I get jealous too."
"Really?"
"Really."
He never notices you secretly being bitter whenever someone is clearly attracted to him, though you never act out on your jealousy because he always reassures you that he only has eyes for you.
"It's normal to get jealous." you told him. "But next time.... just make sure not to step out of line and get yourself or anyone innocent in trouble."
Xavier nodded and kissed the palm of your hand that had been combing his hair. "I promise I'll be more responsible from now on."
You smiled and pecked his nose.
"The smell of cookies really got me. Wanna try again? I'll help you this time."
"I'd like that. But first...." he rested his face onto your lap. "Can we just stay like this for a little while? I think I need to recharge."
Your hand returns to combing his soft hair. "Of course."

HOW TO HANDLE CONFLICTS AND ARGUMENTS IN A RELATIONSHIP/MARRIAGE1. Don't expect your partner/spouse to know he/she has offended if you don't say it. Stop holding your hurt inside you; if you do, you will resent your partner/spouse thinking he/she doesn't care, or he/she will find you hostile without understanding why2. Control your temper. A hot temper will make you say or do something you will regret3. Talk about the issue privately, away from children or the public4. Find out all the facts, don't jump into conclusion. Listen to your partner's/spouse's side of the story or the sequence of events5. Do not attack your partner/spouse. Listen to him/her6. Start talking about the issue with the words "You know I love you. I don't like it when..." or "You know I love you. I have noticed that..."7. Handle the issue quickly before it grows into something that is difficult to manage. Put out the fire when it is small8. When talking about a present issue or conflict, don't introduce a past issue or conflict that was already resolved9. No matter how mad you are about what your partner/spouse did to you or you did to each other, ask him/her to pray with you. As you pray, tell God how angry you feel as your partner/spouse listens, ask for peace. Prayer humbles both of you and gives the peace and guidance to resolve the matter10. Acknowledge your partner's/spouse's pain and hurt. Let him/her know he/she has every right to feel angry, hurt, offended, disrespected or ignored; depending on the matter, and you are on the wrong11. Be quick to apologize. Say sorry. Say sorry even when it was something you did right but your partner/spouse interpreted it as wrong12. Be quick to forgive. How serious you are about your relationship/marriage will be seen by how quick you forgive13.Don't try and justify your actions if you are clearly on the wrong. Sorry is not sincere if you try to decorate your mistakes. Own up to your mess14. Don't compare your partner/spouse with other people, saying, "Why can't you be like so and so..." Never make the one you love feel not good enough15. Don't discourage your partner/spouse by not recognizing his/her effort. Be patient if your partner/spouse is making progress on an issue16. Don't tell your partner's/spouse's shortcomings to outsiders. When he/she feels covered by you, it makes it easier for you two to work it out17. Don't threaten to divorce or break up in order to scare your spouse/partner into action. The more the thoughts of separation will be entertained, the more the likelihood of separation18. Don't tell on your spouse to your spouse's parents or your parents in a way that makes it seem you are treating your spouse like a child. Bringing the parents to the matter should be a joint decision19. Don't cut off communication. Pick up your phone when you spouse calls you, don't run away, don't give silent treatment. This is the time when communication is needed the most20. Don't bang doors, spit, insult, punish your spouse by failing to play your role as a way to show contempt or rebel. Marriage is not for child's play. Stop being a child and talk about the matter21. Don't use sex as a weapon. Never play games with your sex life22. Don't focus on the issue that you both forget the bigger picture; how far you two have come, how much you two have been through together23.,Don't sleep in different bedrooms or move out leaving your spouse. You two should never get used to being apart24. Agree on a way forward to avoid the matter repeating itself
