something. about. the horror of being sent on an impossible (death) quest and obligations and hospitality politics. the trauma of not having a home, and then the trauma of being in a house that becomes actively hostile to you, one that would swallow you whole and spit out your bones if you step out of line. all of this is conditional, your existence continues to be something men want gone.

it's about going back as far as I can with the perseus narrative because there's always a version of a myth that exists behind the one that survives. the missing pieces are clearly defined, but the oldest recorded version of it isn't there! and there's probably something older before that!! but it's doomed to forever be an unfilled space, clearly defined by an outline of something that was there and continues to be there in it's absence.

and love. it's also about love. even when you had nothing, you had love.

edit: to add to the above, while it's not about Ovid, because I'm specifically trying to peel things back to the oldest version of this story, Ovid is fine. alterations on the Perseus myth that give more attention Medusa predate Ovid by several centuries. this comic is also not about those, either! there are many versions of this story from the ancient world. there is not one singular True or Better version, they're all saying something.

It's really depressing that the only real Jedi centric and Jedi positive show in existence is written for preschoolers, while many of the more "adult" shows are edgy and about morally ambiguous or straight-up evil characters. As if lessons about being kind and selfless are somehow not important or relevant to adults just as much if not more than they are to children.

It feels like characters who are unambiguously good are seen as only enjoyable by the very young and adult viewers will only actually appreciate characters who are cruel and selfish (and the requisite "tragic backstory" that always goes with it to help excuse their cruel and selfish choices).

It's just really sad and disappointing.

I wanna talk about Weak Hero Class because I saw this on twt where Hyunwook talks about Sooho's relationship w Sieun and it's making me cry.

So basically I wanna talk about Sooho and how, for the whole show, he always emphasizes not crossing the line. From his first introduction of his fight with the baseball team, he told the dude that he crossed the line so he punched him. But before that he was mostly fighting in self defense and his attacks weren't too harmful (playful smack with a book for example). I think for Sooho, 'crossing the line' means harming someone severely and with malicious intent. Like those baseball dudes had intent to harm, sure, but Sooho never saw it that way and was even being playful. But the moment the baseball dude acted with the intent to really harm Sooho with the bat, thats when it was 'crossing the line'

The next instance was at the end of ep1 when Sieun was about curb stomp the shit out of Youngbin but he stopped him. Idk why he didn't stop him before that (if he was asleep through that then wtf..how??) but let's assume he woke up during the fight. He probably let Sieun handle it for a bit because he might have recognized how Youngbin deserved that but knew that if Sieun went any further, he would've been severely hurt. (Yeah he got a broken nose but he looked fine by ep 5 or 6 and STILL didn't learn his lesson so...if Sieun kept going, he would not have been walking around and shit)

Even when he was training Sieun, Sooho told him to run instead of 'finishing off' the opponent (which Sieun ignored obviously)

Every fight scene with Sooho before ep 7 have been either in self defense or defense of others and to me, I never saw it as him fighting just to fight or hurt but more to assist or defend. He's never sought out violence or harmed others maliciously...until Sieun got hurt.

(I would analyze all of Sooho's fight scenes but I don't have the words to articulate it and this post is getting too long)

We can also argue that he was defending Sieun when he lined up all the bullies and punched them in the gut one by one but Sieun wasn't there to witness this and I don't think he ever found out. Like this Sooho wanted to HURT those dudes. He wanted them to feel the pain that Sieun felt. Still, the Sooho in ep 7 was a vengeful one. The moment he saw Sieun and was hiding his cast from him, Sooho was on a path of revenge.

Then he sought out Yeongbin and broke his fingers and arm and was sending really threatening texts towards Bumseok. If I watched that scene out of context and without subtitles, I would assume Sooho was the bad guy. And then when he hit Bumseok, he probably would have kept going if it weren't for that other ufc dude interrupting. And tbh, I feel like the only fight that didn't cross the line was w that dude bc it did kinda feel like a spar for Sooho, like they both even wore the gloves. Like I don't think Sooho came in there wanting to hurt that dude, only Bumseok, and it was more like a sidequest for him. If the other bullies didn't get in the way, Sooho deffo would have won then he probably would've reverted his attention back to Bumseok.

But the moment he crossed that line, Bumseok decided to cross that line as well and then in ep 8, so did Sieun (until he faced Bumseok in the end and held back but that's another thing)

Idk what I'm really getting at here, just know that Sooho's fights in ep 7 were to HARM others intentionally whereas the fights before were not and maybe you could say it cost him his life (I know he's not dead but....yknow..)

I just need to take a word and say just how much My Hero Academia means to me

I can't believe it's been 10 years, I remember practically growing up with it, so it's always been a large influence on my life (〃´∀`)

It's how I met the majority of my friends here, and it's what kept me drawing and writing (and what influenced me to want to become a mangaka sometime in the future ˶˃ᴗ˂˶)

I know it's dying down now that it's ending, along with various complaints about the current plot or the animation, but I will always be biased in a way since I can't find it in myself to dislike it despite (´∀｀)

It's always and will always be my favorite anime, happy 10 years MHA! ٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و

They created a special short film for this, and it honestly only drills in the love I have for this show

I've been seeing the "endeavor is the best written character in BNHA" take for a while and regardless of if that's true or not (because that's an opinion, not a fact) do the people saying this not think it's questionable or off-putting that the "best" written character is a middle aged man discovering after over two decades that neglecting, abusing, and overall traumatizing his wife and children is BAD and he wants to be a better person now???

normalize your villains. writing wise. i think everyone knows villain behavior irl would get you a ticket straight to the highest security prison out there. but this is about building a fictional world. for context, i've recently been on a rewatch for the show once upon a time and this time, i've tried to stay impartial to the characters storylines. the villains seems irredemable in the first season and frankly, i'm disappointed that this changes. hear me out !!!!!

my version of wednesday addams is for the most part chaotic neutral. wherever the current sails, she'll follow. sure, wednesday has the potential to grow and have (somewhat) healthy relationships in her life, but at the end of the day, she's not a hero. she's not even the anti-hero. sometimes it plays out like that and she might look the part, but she's not good goddammit.

for the crimes that she've committed? guilty as charged. for all the people she had hurt? guilty as charged. for all the misery she'll cause others? you guessed it, guilty as fucking charged. i'm not going to water her down.

in my mind, the addamses were always the outliers, but with the bestest of intentions. morticia and gomez welcomed vile strangers into their homes and tried their very best to make them feel comfortable in their home. they have a skewed perception for the world, something that's unusual, morbid, downright grotesque. edgar allan poe, which netflix glorified and here i am doing a shoutout to train my beloved, would tremble had he known of the addamses. morticia and gomez are kind, in their way. but you know who never really was?

their kids. in the comics (both by the og author and some others icr the author, but more closer to our time), pugsley was the devil incarnate. he showed no remorse, he was clearly thrilled by the suffering he caused others. but i suppose the directors changed the storyline and made wednesday the brand new puglsey in the 90s movies. she showed no emotion, she was a okay with murdering her own, even if she knew as luck as it, their younger brother pubert would live. this time around, wednesday was the devil incarnate.

and i agree with the canon, she can be incredibly intelligent and even more ruthless than she is intelligent. but one thing i've noticed is that, she notices her parents being taken for granted. she is aware that others will use morticia and gomez's kindness against them. sure, they can take it, that's their thing after all. but wednesday noticed everything since she was a kid and she remembers.

and guess what?

just because someone went through hell and back (even if said hell is not the worst that could happen), that doesn't mean someone will come out kind and good. wednesday will forever doubt anyone in her life and she will push them away, just as she'll try to give them the world. but no matter the good she does, at the end of the day, she is the villain. it's not the addams family, it's just the kids and i say that because pugsley and pubert have the same rights as wednesday does.

at the end of the day, being evil after witnessing evil is okay. fiction wise, i feel like reminding. some characters are irredemable. just because they do good things sometimes that doesn't make them good. just like doing bad things sometimes doesn't make them bad. but here's the catch with the addamses. they always, always own up who they are. wednesday no exception to the rule.

wednesday, the villain, can do good things. she can save your muse, she can enjoy your muse's company, she can love your muse. but all of this, all the good things do come from a villain. did she deserve the awful treatment she and her family got in canon? of course not, that we can all agree on. but it doesn't matter what happened, what matters is what choices they make afterward. wednesday will always choose herself. wednesday doesn't pick good, she willingly chooses evil.

sure, a villain is capable of love. a villain is capable of both good and bad. but look at how it always ends. wednesday is a villain and she will suffer, your muse too if you dare to come too close. it's not fair, i know. but this is just my theory, vero's theory. and, you may expect it by now,

please, normalize your villains.

totk really is one of those games that make me go "ok thanks for the characters, setting, and general plot, but ill take it from here <3" because the entire historical timeline had so much potential for interesting and nuanced story telling but they just went with the old zelda story formula and YES thats how theyve always done it but botw was such a reset in terms of gameplay that they couldve overhauled how they handle story in totk. but they didnt

Egotober Day 15: Strong

Strength came in many forms, not just physicality. Strength of character, of heart was just as important. Being a hero, Jackie had strength in spades. But it was times like this that tested it, as he stared unflinchingly up into toxic green from where he was holding up the wall of a building to let the inhabitants get outside.

He should’ve known Anti would show up, he always did when there was trouble or things had been too calm. The hero had to grit his teeth in a low growl as the glitch’s face twisted with that demented Cheshire grin of his and he giggled.

“Having a bit o’ trouble hero?~”

Jackie huffed out a breath and he bit his tongue, as much as he wanted to snap at Anti he had more important things to worry about right now. He felt the integrity of the wall crumbling more under his hold, more weight added onto his arms. He exhaled as he heard the bricks hit the ground, the startled shrieks of the crowd from the impacts. The sound of the rescue workers rushing as fast and safe as they could inside to get the civilians out.

He tensed, hair rose on the back of his neck as he heard crackling electricity close to his ear. He shuddered and felt his heart pick up in adrenaline fueled nerves as claws curled around one shoulder.

“Ignorin me now are we? Tsk, tsk, tsk~ Ye know t’at’s a bad idea Jackieboy….I t’ought ye had learned by now. Might have to teach ya anot’er lesson.”

Jackie felt bile crawl up his throat and resisted the urge to gag at the thought of another ‘lesson’. The last one had left him coughing up blood and his ribcage ached in phantom pain. He didn’t move, he didn’t acknowledge Anti. He couldn’t afford to have his focus split-pain lanced down one arm as those deadly claws sunk into his shoulder.

He grit his teeth as muscles spasmed and tightened, he held back the instinct to twist his arm to dislodge them. He dug his fingers into brick and mortar instead in an attempt to stay singular focused. The glitch hummed, the sound brought a smirk to the hero’s mind as the only kind of warning he got.

Then everything lit up in white hot agony.

Jackie clenched his jaw as tight as he could not to scream, his body wanted to convulse but he didn’t let it. He held himself in position as the wall creaked and groaned, bricks tumbled down around him onto the street. His heart skipped beats and stuttered in his chest as his ears rang with the sound of harsh static mixed with panicked screams, the racing footsteps in the building. He felt like his teeth would crack under the pressure as the voltage amped up in response.

Anti didn’t want his attention on anything else but the pain, but him as he struggled to keep his hands still. He couldn’t falter, he couldn’t let go, he had to be strong. His vision swam and began to blur, thoughts fuzzed and tormented. The hero didn’t know how long he could take this, the pain just kept coming and it increased with every second that passed- the force of nature hissed smugly against his skin like it read his mind.

“I can stop Jackie, make all t’e pain go away~ All ye gotta do is one little thing~”

Anything, he’d do anything if it meant the pain stopped. There was a pleased hum that brought to mind a cat with prey before a twisted croon against his ear.

“Say my name Jackieboy~ Say my name and it stops~”

Jackie barely remembered his own name, he couldn’t think- the pain was so bad. His muscles locked in place from his stubbornness not to move, not to scream. His senses all transmitted suffering, torment, the crackling and hissing of the lightning the only sound he heard above his own heartbeat. The hero couldn’t focus…everything started to dim. His eyes fluttered and he caught a flash of feral, wicked neon green…he felt a hand on his cheek, claws softly traced his face and teased the edges of his mask. It felt like his mouth moved on its own and his voice forced itself out barely above a breath. Only heard between the two of them.

“Anti.…”

The pain stopped instantly, he started to sway midair as his body began to go limp. The wall crumbled and collapsed against his body and he hit the street hard, unable to hold himself up. As Jackie slid into the darkness of unconsciousness there was a chuckle among the shouting of civilians and workers who scrambled to his side to tend to him.

“Sleep well hero, see you soon~”

thinking about how there's a window of time where Tim and Cass basically had the same haircut and like, I know I've mentioned the Concept™️ of them getting mistaken for biological siblings as civilians before but now I'm thinking about like.... what if various goons and villains thought they were bio siblings, but like, in-mask. obviously nobody puts together Black Bat/Orphan and Red Robin with Cassandra Wayne and Tim Drake-Wayne, but Red Robin and BB/Orphan have the same color and style hair, same slight, narrow build, and pretty similar combat styles — is it really a stretch to think that some people might think the two of them are related by more than just paperwork and a father's love?
