Billy hides in his room like a spooked cat at first.
Hopper tries his best to be patient. The boy has been through a lot, he reminds himself. He needs time.
The first of Billy's things Hopper finds outside of his room is some hairspray in the bathroom.
Billy is still hiding.
But slowly, there is more stuff lying around. His sweater, a few earrings, some books Hopper or El definitely didn‘t buy.
Billy shows up in the living room more often. They watch cheesy movies together both of them deny to like.
One day, Hopper comes home and finds a topless Steve Harrington drinking a soda in the kitchen.
"Hey Hop! Billy said you would not mind, if I stayed for dinner?"
Hopper finally realizes that Billy trusts him.

Hopper, casually ruffling Billy's hair: You did good kid! I'm proud of you.
Billy, bewildered: The hell did you just do to me?
Hopper, lowering his hand: I just tousled your hair. Ain't nobody ever done that to you before?
Billy, grabbing Hopper's wrist: Keep. Going.

One week after being taken in by Joyce and Jim, Billy's found it hard to kick his old habits.
He's found himself rather dependent on drugs and alcohol. So, he does what he usually does to deal with time at home— he gets high and drunk.
He always did it to numb himself, mind and body. So he wouldn't feel the punches. So the screams wouldn't sound so loud. So his body could still feel relaxed in frightening situations. So he could still sleep at night after facing the waking nightmare which was Neil hargrove.
He didn't need to do it anymore, but he still did.
Jim wasn't trying to smother the boy. Eighteen's still an adult, even if he's a kid in Jim's eyes. So he just...waits for Billy to eventually come home, hoping to God he doesn't have to go out looking for him.
10:30 PM...11:42...12:20...1:35...
2:32AM, Billy finally stumbles in the house, quite noisily. His keys hit the floor, he mumbles curses under his breath, he bumps into the coffee table because he's not used to navigating this house in the dark just yet.
He sighs in annoyance and just plops down on the couch. He's already feeling a little uneasy because he made so much noise.
Jim surfaces from his bedroom and sits next to Billy. He shines a flashlight in his face, answered by a groan and the quick reflex of Billy slapping the flashlight away.
"You're wasted, aren't you?" Jim assumes. "Joyce has been worried sick about you. I stayed up all night waiting because she sat by the window waiting to see you park in the driveway."
"Mmh." Billy groans. He's not coherent enough to respond, to apologize.
"How the hell did you drive like this?!" Jim questions.
"I do it all'a time. S'no big deal."
"It's a big deal. Are you crazy? You could've gotten yourself killed!"
"So what?"
"So what?! Billy! How do you think we would feel if something happened to you?"
"I'unno. I just got here. Wouldn't matter."
"It would matter. Jane loves you. Will and Jonathan really like having you here, and Joyce, psh, forget it. You're her baby, just like her other boys. She knows what you went through and all she wants to do is take care of you."
Billy whimpers in response before a soft sniffle can be heard.
Jim places a comforting hand on Billy's shoulder. "Don't cry, alright? Let's sober you up so you can say goodnight to Joyce."
"M'kay." Billy nods.
Jim makes him a cup of coffee and a sandwich.
"Listen. You don't have to check out whenever you come home. Things're different now. It'll be nice if you're present so we can feel like a family."
"You don't need a screw up like me in your family."
"We're all screw ups, Billy. We've all screwed up in one way or another, or been screwed over by life. That's what makes our family so great. We understand each other."
Silence filled the kitchen. The kitchen clock ticked and the lightbulb above them softly buzzed.
"Sorry." Billy finally said. "I'm not used to this."
"I know. You want some cookies and milk?"
"I'm not a kid." Billy rolled his eyes.
"You're my kid. And you can have cookies and milk if you want 'em."
Billy chuckled. "I guess I do want them."
"Atta boy." Jim excitedly opened up a pack of Oreos and poured himself and Billy some milk.
They'd eaten nearly half the package when they heard someone clear their throat.
They both turned to see Joyce standing in the doorway, her arms folded over her robe.
"Having a late night snack, are we?"
"Sorry." Jim apologized. "Did we wake you?"
"No. I was already up. I went to check Billy's room to see if he'd come home and...here he is with you, eating all the snacks."
"I'll replace the oreos." Jim promised.
"I don't care about the oreos, honey. I'm just glad you're home." She said, smiling at Billy. "I was worried you wouldn't come back, then I wouldn't know if you were safe or taking care of yourself."
Billy frowned. "I didn't mean to worry you. I-I swear I won't do it again."
"I hope not." She approached him and kissed his forehead, then snatched the oreo out of his hand and dipped it in his milk, before shoving the whole cookie into her mouth.
Billy laughed as she strutted away, bidding a quiet goodnight before returning to bed.
"I guess I'd better turn in too." Jim said with a stretch as he stood. "What about you?"
"Yeah. I think I'm gonna do the same."
"Goodnight, kid."
"G'night dad."
They looked at each other wide-eyed. Billy didn't mean to call him dad. Not this soon.
"Sorry was that...that was weird, right?"
"Not to me. Whatever makes you feel comfortable."
They smiled at each other before heading to their rooms.
Billy snickered at the pajama set Joyce had laid out for him on his bed. He hadn't worn a pajama set since he was 8 years old, but the red lounge pants and matching cotton shirt were so soft, and the made bed was even softer.
He didn't want to feel numb anymore. He wanted to feel the comfort of his bed, and the warmth of his loving family.

No thoughts but El dressing up as Billy because he's her hero- (it was supposed to be shorter but you know how it is)
TW: scars, descriptions of anxiety, insecurities, depression (it's fluff overall though)
"Well, I'm no nerd, but that sure as hell doesn't look like Wonder Woman, kid," Billy observes, the corners of his mouth quirking up into an amused yet fond sort of smile. He hadn't really smiled in ages, and he didn't think he could ever get used to it. It felt strange. The good kind, though.
El snorts a laugh, and his smile widens. She's an odd girl. Quiet, too. But she's the only one who doesn't treat him like he's a freak. She doesn't baby him, either. "Guess."
"Mmmm..." He taps his chin in thought, humoring her. "Bonnie Tyler?"
She shakes her head, the curly blonde wig hanging onto her buzzed head for dear life.
"Joan Jett?"
"Joan Jett has black hair!"
He looks at her costume again; a dangling earring, light pink lip gloss, denim jeans, and a stained wife beater hanging off her frame.
"You've lost me, kid."
El frowns, giving him a look that she gives Mike when he's around Will. The "I'm tired of your shit" look. It's eerily similar to Joyce's momma bear face.
A loud honk, followed by Hopper's empty threats of getting his gun, makes them both jump; Steve, Argyle, and Jonathan must be here to pick the kids up.
"You're gonna be late for trick or treating with Steve. Don't wanna make him wait, do ya?" he says, forcing a smile. He'd be lying if he said he didn't want to join them. However, there was no place for a scarred shell of who he used to be. Not that he missed the anger and the bruises (at least they faded away in time), but he wasn't like Steve or Dustin or even Robin.
He could be taken out of the equation, and... no one would care. He looks away, avoiding El's piercing stare.
She holds out her hand, and lightly tugs the tip of his fingers. "I'm you."
A startled laugh emits from him, and he shakes his head. He ought to clean his ears when she leaves.
"I'm dressed as the man who saved my life. My hero," El says, and those words combined with her voice, full of stubborn love, give a new reason to the growing lump in his throat. "Robin even added your scars on the shirt, see?"
He does, in fact, see. The scars don't look anything like the ugly jagged ones on his skin. They look... almost like decorations.
El gives him a knowing smile, not letting go off his hand. "Steve came up with the description. He said that they reminded him of flowers. The mark of a survivor. A hero."
There's that word again. Billy's eyes glaze with tears and he grabs his leather jacket, heading for the door, dragging El along.
She sends him a confused look.
Cheeks damp and stretched wider than ever, he takes out two cigarettes and passes one to her. "Now we match."
El puts her cigarette into her mouth, at the same time he does. "Bitchin'," she says gleefully.
He straightens her wig, and fluffs it up a bit before grabbing his keys. "Now, let's get going before all the good candy's gone, and all that's left is fruit snacks."

Stranger things / the black phone
<Crossover au>
Summary: hopper as three adopted children and all of them are a hassle, it’s like the minuet one thing is solved another starts. At least this time the knock at the door doesn’t mean the end of the world (One of the kids get into a fight and an angry parent comes knocking)
(Billy 16, Vance 14, Jane 13)
My kids
Knock Knock Knock.
Hopper sighed as the banging at the door continued, seeming to only get louder and more aggressive as he tried to tune it out.
Knock. knock. knock.
Dammit! Was it so hard to have a nice meal after a hard shift with all his kids?
Knock. Knock. Knock.
Yes. Apparently it was. Hoppers eyes gazed around the table, briefly locking on each one of his children. They all seemed to be able to ignore the noise, Jane was chatting happily to the boys whilst shoving massive bites of food into her mouth , Vance seemed to be trying to have a subtle foot fight with his big brother under the table. Billy was smirking as he easily switched between listening and talking to his new little sister, and annihilating his little brother with one swift kick after another.
Hopper smiled, if the kids weren’t bothered he could probably ignore it too. Hopper huffed a breath as he went to lift his fork to his mouth.
KnockKnockKnock!
That was getting really irritating. He should probably- no. No its family dinner time. Ignore it and it’ll go away.
KnockKnockKnock!!
Oh come on! If the door isn’t opening leave!
KnockKnockKnock!!!
Vance turned to Hopper, who looked like he was trying to lift thousands of tons with one arm.
“Someone’s at the door” he shrugged
“You think!?”
KNOCK KNOCK KN-
“ALRIGHT GIVE ME A GOD DAMN MINUTE” Hopper yelled, pushing his chair back with such force it slammed into the ground, surprising all three kids and ending the irritating knocking.
Hopper marched towards the door, his brows crossed and his eyes blazing as he almost yanked the damn thing off it’s hinges. That would stop any future knocking.
“WHAT!” Hopper practically growled and yelled all in one.
One Mr Sam Davis, a generally calm and pleasant man, stood on the door step, his hand locked onto the collar of his seventeen year old son Hunter and his furious eyes pinned on Hopper.
“Well chief, it looks like one of your kids go into it with mine”
Hoppers eyes trailed over to Hunter, taking in his black eye and bloodied nose. God, it really was one thing after another. If it wasn’t possibly world ending monsters, psychopathic men or just about any other damn thing the universe could throw…it was teenagers.
Hopper closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose as he took a deep breath.
“Right. BOYS!” Hopper tuned and yelled back into the cabin.
A moment later the sound of three chairs rubbing against the wooden floor could be herd, footsteps fallowing right after.
Billy and Vance stepped out to stand by Hopper, Jane choosing to stand by the doorframe watching everyone in silence.
Hopper tuned to his boys, Vance was smirking at Hunter whilst Billy looked totally unbothered. Once upon a time, that would have been enough damming evidence for him, now it didn’t mean shit. Hopper took another calming breath. Just get this done and they can go back to dinner.
“Ok so who did it” Hopper tuned back to Mr Davis, his eyes looking the man up and down.
Davis turned to his son and huffed.
“Well boy, which one?” The man seemed rather annoyed, be it at the situation or his son for not already telling him, Hopper didn’t know or care.
Hunter was known around Hawkins, more than either Billy or Vance had ever been, as being bully, a provoker, and a down right little shit who Hopper had had the misfortune of escorting home a few time. How ironic that it was now Hopper being informed of his kids misdeeds.
Hunter opened his mouth, waited a moment, before shutting it again, crossing his arms and looking away . Great. Hopper tuned to his boys again.
“Billy?” He asked.
“I didn’t do shit, I was working at the pool” Billy shrugged, picking at his nails. Right.
Hopper huffed, tuned to Vance and raised his eyebrow.
“Vance?”
Vance looked Hunter up and down, as if appraising a pice of work or a fucking collectible.
“Tsk, Nahh this ain’t me” he huffed a small laugh.
Hopper tuned back to Mr Davis and Hunter, an unimpressed look painted plainly on his face.
“Well who is it kid” it was quiet.
“Look there was no point in coming here if you can’t tell me which kid it was” Hopper stated blankly, his muscles tightening in annoyance.
The silence continued for a moment.
“I did it”
All eyes snapped to Jane in he doorway. Her shoulders were pulled up to her ears and her face bowed in shame as she stepped forward.
She slowly shuffled until she stood between Hopper and Vance, the latter wrapped his arm around her shoulders.
“It was me”
Everyone was still quiet from the shock. Hopper had expected Billy or Vance to have done it,everyone would have, it wouldn’t have exactly been surprising. They were getting better sure, but learning to control anger this late in life was hard, hell everyone had setbacks, even him. Hopper had speeches prepared for when Vance or Billy did stuff like this, but Jane? Sweet Jane? He had no idea what to do with that.
“Is that true?” Hopper tuned back to Hunter, who’s face seemed to be a few shades darker and a whole lot redder. Hopper almost couldn’t stop to smirk as the boy nodded.
Before Hopper could say anything else Mr Davis’s outraged voice cut in.
“Really! The little sister!? “ Mr Davis was astounded at the stupidity of it all.
“You didn’t pick a fight with the fist fighting maniac” Billy smirked, finally looking interested.
“Or the knife wielding delinquent” Vance grinned at that. He’d never hurt someone with the knife but it sure as shit made a statement.
“Oh no! You picked at fight with the little sweetheart!” Janes sad face lifted slightly.
“They’re all younger than you! And you fought the smallest and still lost! Coming home yelling to your mother about the chiefs kids and getting her all in a worry! What’s wrong with you!?” Hunter seemed more embarrassed than anything, and Hopper had never seen Sam Davis this angry since someone made his girlfriend (now wife) cry in middle school.
As funny as it was to watch, Hopper wanted to get back to dinner.
“Well then, Jane I think you owe-“ Hopper was cut off before he could even think the words to finish the sentence.
“Oh no chief, no need for that. My son is years older and should know better than to pick on the little ones. Sorry for interrupting your dinner chief, Linda was all frazzled and I guess that just go me going.,” Mr Davis suddenly sound tired as he rubbed his temple, giving the chief and look that Hopper recognised all to well. Oh the joys of fatherhood.
“And you little lady” Mr Davis tuned to Jane, a small smile that Hopper was used to seeing, decorated his face as he knelt slightly.
“If my boy gives you trouble you come tell me and I’ll sort him right out” Mr Davis said calmly, Jane only nodded. Hunter was mortified.
“Sorry again for the disturbance Chief” Mr Davis nodded to Hopper and dragged his son off back to their car, yelling about how he was go into to ‘tell your mother your picking on the chiefs little daughter’.
Hopper was almost in a haze as he walked inside after the kids, well , he was not expecting that. Whilst it was great that Mr Davis wasn’t angry anymore, he still had to deal with the fact Jane hit someone enough to give them a black eye and a bloody nose. Great. Hopper sighed as he turned towards his daughter who was looking at her feet, his boys were all staring at him, almost as confused as he was, Jane was never in trouble for something like this. It was like the world and flipped upside down.
“Why’d you hit that boy?” Hopper kept his voice calm, it really was weird not being in a yelling match already.
“He said we weren’t a real family. That your not my dad and their not my brothers” Janes voice was soft as she spoke.
Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. How was Hopper supposed to tell her off for something he would probably have done too.
It was quiet again.
“Did ya cheat?” Billy asked, his voice light and curious as Jane turned to him.
“Cheat?”
“You know, use you mind-powers and all that?” Billy gestured with his hands.
“No” Jane shook her head “no powers” at lest she followed that rule.
“Sweet, how’d you do it, he’s like, taller than me? How’s you reach?” Vance, just like Billy, seemed rather interested.
“Stepped on his foot, kicked his leg, when he got low I hit him, like you said, ‘if they’re bigger than you, make them smaller’ he fell over and I ran” Jane tilted her head innocently as Vance beamed at her.
“Oh nice!” Vance held his hand up for a high-five, Billy smacked his brother upside the head, before he also gave Jane a high-five. Jesus, what was going on here!?
Jane was smiling wildly, all shame seemed to have left her as she turned back to Hopper.
“Fighting is bad you know that. All of you know that” her smiled dimmed slightly.
“But. Your a first time offender, and I didn’t like that kid anyway. So here’s what we’re gonna do” hoppers voice was serious as he locked eyes with Jane.
“Your going to go into your room, put your pjs on, brush your teeth then sit on that couch, in fact, all of you are now sentenced to movie night with your old man.” Well, he could always parent later.
Janes megawatt smile was back as she dashed over to her room. The boys all turned to him with cheeky grins he had grown used to seeing.
“So does that mean next time I-“ Billy started, humour drowning his words.
“Yeah not a chance hotshot. Now go put your pjs on” Hopper crossed his arms, his own smirk threatening to breakthrough.
“Ouch, the favouritism” Billy grinned as he held a hand to his chest and staggered back dramatically.
“Oh like you wouldn’t let her off, she’s too adorable to be punished! Besides, if that’s why she’s fighting, I can’t even be mad” Vance practically giggled. Billy only nodded as Vance dragged him off to their shared room.
Well that went better than Hopper thought. But next time he would have to lay down the law.
Jane was the first to come back. Well this was Hoppers chance to at-lest try and make this a learning moment.
“Jane” the little girl turned to look as him with her big eyes.
“Next time, you go find me, or even one of your brothers ok? Your my little Angel, but don’t let that fool anyone because you’ve got too curly haired devils fighting for you okay?. Besides, I need at lest one well behaved child.” Nope, screw teaching moment. But definitely next time though.
That night , with dinner cold and forgotten on the table. The little makeshift family all huddled together on the couch, plates and bowls of popcorn and eggos littering the table, and smiles all around as they watched their movies together.
The end.
•••
I had this in my head and I thought it was cute, idk if anyone would like it but i did so I thought id put it here! I just love the family feels.

Jim Hopper has just come back from his date with Joyce and is in a good mood. He’s in a good mood a lot these days. Maybe he‘s getting soft caring for a psychic girl and an angry boy.
Suddenly there is a hard knock against the door. It’s midnight. Fearing the worst, Jim opens the door and stares at a flushed Steve Harrington.
”Is he here?“ he asks, a bit out of breath.
”Yeah, he‘s in his room,“ Hopper says when he hears Billy mumbling ”I‘m not home“.
Steve shoves past him with that much force Jim stumbles back. He tries to open the door.
”Open the door, you coward!“ Steve shouts.
Billy doesn‘t answer.
”You can‘t kiss me and then run away, Billy. That‘s not fair,“ Steve says. ”We have to talk about it!“
What the fuck. That‘s unexpected. Hopper grabs a beer can out of the fridge. He‘s not drunk enough for this, he only had a half a bottle of red wine tonight.
”He‘s probably climbing out the window,“ he informs Steve. He knows how many times Billy fled from a possible conflict, afraid Hopper would hit him. Which he never did, of course.
”But I - I have to kiss him back!“ Steve runs out of the cabin.
”Tell him I don‘t care if you kiss each other,“ Hopper shouts after him. ”But he still has to do the dishes.“
He downs his beer. Great, another uncomfortable conversation and teenager drama awaiting him. He‘s too old for this shit.

Billy knew that he would be in huge trouble when he got home. His father had told him to be home by midnight and he was slowly creeping closer to the house at 4am. He swallowed the fear down before parking the car in the driveway and closing his eyes. He wished to the high heavens that no one was awake and that he would be able to go to bed and no one would ask about anything. Luck was not on his side. He parked a good block from his house and walked back home. He opened the door as quietly as he could, but as he entered the house, a beer bottle crashed next to his head. He jumped slightly and turned to see his father staring him down.
“Where the hell have you been? I told you to be home by midnight and here you are walking in four hours late!” Neil stood from the chair and started walking closer to Billy. Billy tensed up and started biting his tongue. “I am sorry sir. My car broke down and I couldn’t get a hold of anyone.” Billy lied in hopes that his father would give him a harsh warning and leave him alone. That’s not the case, ever. Neil grabbed Billy’s arm a little too tightly that Billy yelped.  Max and her mother came running down the stairs in hopes that they could calm Neil down before he did something harmful to Billy. Max got to the bottom of the stairs only to watch Neil slam her step-brother against the wall, his hand around Billy’s throat.
Billy felt his body collide with the wall and everything went blank. His father was screaming at him  with one hand around his throat and the other hand hitting him harder than he remembered ever being hit. Tears spilled down his face as he held his lips shut. He refused to cry out knowing that would give his father a known pleasure for beating him. When he couldn’t feel the onslaught of beatings, he looked up to see Max and Susan pushing the man out the door yelling at him and him yelling back. Max ran to his side and pressed her hands against his face. Tears fell down her face and landed on him, making him blink away the expressionless look. “M-Max?” His voice sounded hollow and broken from how hard he was restraining his voice.
“I’m here Billy. Neil’s gone. He won’t be coming back for a while.”
Billy shook his head and sobbed. He sobbed for the first time in years. “I-I can’t take it anymore M-Max! I have bruises and welts from that man! I can’t live here anymore.” He cried out in pain. Max pressed her forehead to her step-brother’s and closed her eyes. “I know. I know. Mom is gonna do everything she can to get him away from you. She’s gonna try and adopt you.” Max whispered softly. Billy stopped his movements and looked at her with wide eyes. “A-Adopt me?” He asked. Billy looked down and tried to process what Max just told her.
Max nodded her head. “Yes. My mother would adopt you and you would become my actual brother, not that you being my step-brother is bad, but you would have a mother again and you could feel love again.” She said, a smile appearing on her face. Billy narrowed his eyes. He wasn’t even remotely ready to allow love into his life at this point. He had been hurt so badly by his father and his mother that he shut himself off from love. He had detached himself from love and feelings the minute his father laid the first fist against his stomach. He could remember tasting blood for weeks. He couldn’t even go to the hospital as it would risk him being found out by his father.
Billy slowly stood from the ground. He straightened his shirt and looked at Max with tears falling down his face. “I’m sorry Max, please forgive me for everything that I ever did to you, or your friends. I-“ he could finish his sentence as he just bolted out the door. He ripped his keys from his pocket and climbed into his car. He gave one last look to his sister and saw her standing on the porch with tears streaming down her face as she screamed his name out. Billy slammed his hand on the storing wheel before he turned the car on and sped out of the driveway and down the street. He shot off the world as he drove to the only place that he knew he would be safe again. Your house.
{With Y/N}
You were currently in your kitchen making dinner, spaghetti that is. Yes it was 4:30am and yes you just got home from work and you were starving. You put the finishing touches to the food and you were about to sit down when you heard knocking on your front door. You wiped your hands off on the towel before walking to your door. “Who is it?” You called out. “Please open the door Y/n, I can’t take it anymore.” You gasped and threw open the door to find Billy, in tears, blood gushing from his lip and his eyebrow. He had a black eye and was shivering. You quickly pulled him into the house and sat him on the couch.
You grabbed your first aid kit and started to go from the smaller wounds to the much bigger wounds. Some were open wounds and needed to be stitched but you didn’t have time to get him to the hospital. You had graduated high school early for your age and immediately went and applied for a CNA position. You grabbed the needle and thread and very carefully began to stitch the wounds that needed it. Billy grimaced when you started, but he was thankful that you had numbed the area before. It was quiet for a while before you spoke up. “I’m calling Hopper and Joyce.” You stated, giving no room to argue.
Billy sighed but nodded his head and lifted his not occupied hand and pressed it to your face. He traced over your nose and eyes before they landed on your lips. He smiled softly before his intrusive thoughts blew his walls down. “She could be with someone so much better than you.” “You don’t deserve her kindness.” “You deserve to live in the pits of hell for what you have done.” “Why would she want someone as broken as you?” “You know she is only with you out of pity.” The voices in his head were thrown off balance when he caught you staring at him. Your  eyes were half lidded with a determination to stop whatever was going on in his head. You gently grabbed Billy’s face as you stood up.
“Don’t you DARE belittle yourself.” You said, anger flashing in your eyes. The anger, he realized, was not directed at him though. It was directed somewhere else. You grabbed the phone from the wall and punched in Hopper’s number. You waited and after the fourth ring, Hopper’s groggy and sleep filled voice echoed from the phone. “Hello? Who is this?”
“Hopper, It's Y/n. I need you, Joyce, and the kiddo’s to come to my place. I know they are staying at your’s and Joyce’s place for a sleepover.” You said. Hopper snorted but you could hear him shaking someone awake and standing up. You turned your head when you heard a fantic knock on your door. “We will be over in thirty minutes, kid.” Hopper said before hanging up the phone. You hung up the phone and walked to the door. Opening the door, you saw Max with her hands on her hips and breathing hard. “Is…Is Billy here?” She huffed. You nodded and moved out of the way so she could walk in.
“I can’t do this anymore. I can’t…” Billy could feel his breathing start to quicken and his body was slowly shutting down. “Y/n please make the pain leave, I can’t be here. I can’t live anymore. I want to die.” Billy grabbed your hands when you walked closer to him. Your eyes filled with tears as he kept mumbling how badly he wanted to die. You dropped to your knees and his eyes followed you. He was struggling to breath as his body shook violently. “Baby, look at him. Breathe.” You said as you took a deep, slow breath.
Billy copied your movements and found himself slowly relaxing. You gently took his still shaking hand and pressed it to your chest when your heart was. The steady thumping pulled Billy from his mind and allowed himself to be grounded. Max scooted closer to Billy’s side and laid her head on his arm. You turned to Max, “Can you go next door and get Steve, Eddie, Robin, Jonathan, and Nancy?” You asked. Max nodded her head and gently pulled away from her brother.
You slowly stood up and walked to your room. Billy panicked when he saw you leave. “Don’t worry baby. I’m just grabbing something from my room. Ok?” You whispered. Billy slowly nodded his head and watched you disappear from his sight. A few moments later, you came back with a guitar in your hand. You smiled when you saw him stare at the instrument. “What’s that for?” He asked. “Just listen for a little bit. Playing always helps me calm my mind down, so maybe it can help you.” You whispered. You strummed the strings to make sure it was still in tune before you began playing a melody your mother and father always played for you when you were little.
Don't listen to the voices inside your head
You're doing just fine
You're trying your best
And no-one ever told you it's all gonna be okay
We're just people never sleeping over stupid shit
We won't remember in the morning
Yeah, we're gonna forget
And no-one ever told you it's all gonna be okay
When you lose faith in everything you ever knew
Don't give up on you
When life gets overwhelming
Relying on yourself is hard to do
But don't give up on you, no
If you've been lost and lonely
Ashamed to be alone with only you
And no-one left to lose
If it's the last thing that you do
Don't give up on you
Billy’s eyes widened as you sang. The sound of the guitar sounded so calming to his ears. The words seemed to stick with him as you sang.  He tuned out the rest of the words as he listened to your voice. You opened your eyes and turned to see Max walking into the room with Steve and the others. You could even see Hopper waving at her with the others. She smiled and continued to sing. Billy closed his eyes and bounced his head to your singing.  Eddie came and sat next to you with a grin. You kept singing and playing knowing the song was almost done. You stopped playing when the last note played and you placed the guitar against the couch.
“Billy.” You called out. Billy opened his eyes to see everyone seated on the floor with you or next to him. Hopper raised an eyebrow. “Kid, why are you covered in bandages and why do you have stitches over your eyebrow and arm?” He asked, walking closer to Billy. Billy told him everything that happened. You watched Hopper’s face grow from tired, to full blown rage. He placed a hand on Billy’s head and noted the way the boy flinched when he did that. You moved and sat on his lap while Hopper walked into a different room with Joyce to talk with her. Billy’s arms wrapped around your body and held you tightly.
“You have nothing to worry about anymore Billy.” Eddie’s voice called out. Everyone turned to Eddie. “I’m serious. He’s a part of us now. He gets to enjoy life like the rest of us now.” He said. Everyone still looked at him with raised eyebrows. Eddie groaned and threw an empty bottle at Dustin. “What the hell did I do?!” He yelled with a smile on his face. Dustin threw the bottle back at Eddie causing a small playful fight to break out. Billy watched before he started laughing with everyone else. You smiled at him before turning to watch the chaos unfold in your living room.
“Why do you love me?” Billy’s sudden question made everyone stop. You turned and stared your boyfriend down with a look of betrayal. “You dumb idiot. I love you because you let me be my goofy ass self and I know you won’t look at me differently. They love you because you keep them on their feet with your weird ass impulsive nature. The two of us together, I have heard from a little birdy, are and I quote Steve and Eddie, “A FREAKIN MENACE TO SOCIETY.” You laughed when Steve and Eddie tried to refuse that statement.
“We love you Billy, because you are you. Cheesy as that sounds, it's a hundred percent true. Plus, you befriend us means you get an army of gremlins and ex-criminals to protect you.” Robin said. Everyone burst into a fit of laughter. Billy laid his head on your shoulder before tilting his head and pressing a kiss to your neck. “I love you. Thank you for saving me.” He whispered so only you could hear it. You smiled. “Anything for you baby.” You whispered, pressing a kiss to his forehead before turning to see Hopper and Joyce.
“Billy, how would you feel if me and Joyce adopted you and Max?” Hopper asked. Billy’s eyes widened and Max practically jumped for joy. “I could teach you what a real man is and help undo what your old man did to you. If you’ll let me.” Hopper said. Billy smiled a genuine smile and nodded his head. “I honestly would love that. Thank you, dad.” Billy said. You grinned and pulled your boyfriend in for a hug and Hopper grinned. “Alright, it's settled then. I will get statements from you and Max tomorrow morning and get adoption paper’s set up.” Hopper said smiling. Joyce walked over to Max and Billy before pulling the two in for a hug.
“Welcome home.” She whispered, causing tears to spring into Billy’s eyes. “I’m home.” He whispered back and Joyce smiled, pulling him into her as she hugged him tightly.  “You don’t have to worry about anything anymore.” Joyce said before pulling away and smiling brightly at him. Billy grinned from ear to ear before turning back to you. “I love you.” He said laying his head on your shoulder and closing his eyes. You smiled softly. “I love you too. Sleep well Billy. We have a big day tomorrow.” She whispered. Everyone eventually just crashed in the living room with you  and Billy sleeping on the couch. Yeah. This was a big family and you wouldn’t change a thing.
