Tumblr’s Core Prodct Stratgy

Here at Tumblr, we’ve been working hard on trying to keep our sinking ship afloat for as long as possible. This means desperately trying to copy every new fly-by-night social media app that some multi-billionaire sh*t out during their daily Peloton routine. What follows is the strategy we're using to accomplish the goal of user growth. If you find the things we say here worrisome, please understand that is our exact intention. You've outgrown our target demographic. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

The Diagnosis

It's lookin' pretty bad y'all!

After somehow losing hundreds of thousands of users during the great pr0n purge of 2018, we started to wonder if anything could be done to get back to where we were. We even brought in a management consultant who charged us a ridiculous amount of money. It would make you sick if you knew how much, but we got a few nice meals out of it at least. Anyhow, we handed this guy the app, and HE HAD NO IDEA HOW TO USE IT! It was f*cking hilarious! But suddenly it all clicked -- our users are a bunch of stupid idiots who can't even do basic arithmetic. I mean, they spend all day looking at their phones, so what do you expect?

Tumblr’s best feature is its unique content and vibrant communities. But who cares, right? We're just as happy getting traffic from people sh*t-posting memes, vague-booking, giving out-of-context hot takes to news events, and spewing whatever random thought is in their head at the moment. Plus that stuff doesn't p*ss off Apple.

To keep this thing going we need new people. And by "people" we mean teenagers, like we used to have back in the good ol' days. Unfortunately we're all in our 40s now, so we have no idea what they want. But teenagers are so cool! Imagine if they talked to us like we're one of them? We're getting hard just thinking about it.

Our Guidng Principls

To make Tumblr cool again, we must address these huge glaring issues.

People can look at a blog without logging in. How is that fair to all the poor schlubs who had to fill out forms to get an account? Also we haven't figured out a way to force ads onto the personalized pages yet. But we swear that's not the main reason.

People can see content they are looking for or linked to. People can keep up with blogs they follow. But the problem with this is, people don't know what they want. We know what they want! We're smart. We wrote this damn site, remember?

Promote posts that incite pointless conversations. Posts that are guaranteed to bait every troll into responding. Isn't that why all your Magat relatives love Facebook so much? We can do that!

P*ss off your content creators in every way possible (see #2).

Create algorithms that throw an unending barrage of irrelevant content in your face. Have you seen Instagram lately? We could do that so easy!!!

The app is slow. The website is slow. Obviously this is because of GIFs. Facebook and Instagram don't allow them, so why should we?

Conclusion

Our mission changes on a day-to-day basis. Right now we're super jealous of all the attention that new Threads thing is getting. We're still not sure what it is, but we're gonna download it after work.

And then, in Los Angeles, 2018, Eddie had met Buck. Then, huddled over a man with a bomb in his leg, Eddie had needed gauze and Buck’s hand had moved. Then, in the parking lot bathed in the light of an ambulance on fire, Buck had inhaled and Eddie's lungs expanded. And, well, that was that.

This description felt too long for ao3 but here’s what I pitched to the Big Bang server:

“In a world where certain individuals are capable of sharing their own instincts and feelings — and even occasionally physical strength — with their likewise capable partners, Eddie and Buck, and Hen and Chim are what people sometimes call congeneric minds. It comes in handy in a high stakes profession like firefighting to have two people in such synchronization, able to warn each other of danger without ever having to waste time opening their mouths to speak.

Being so in sync with someone doesn’t necessarily mean smooth sailing communication however. Recently back at work after taking time off post-shooting, Eddie worries about Buck and how he’s been dealing with the events of the last year (last several years, really) but doesn’t know how to bring it up when he himself has always kind of encouraged them to move past life changing events with little discussion. While Hen and Chim are getting along just fine, Chimney and Maddie are dancing around each other and their recent breakup, and Hen feels trapped between disappointing her mother or her wife while being roped into backyard wedding planning.

With danger ever present on the job and turmoil seemingly always bubbling outside it, will everyone find the right words before it’s too late?

About the future

Are my efforts writing this text in a language I don’t master even worth it? Or is this post gonna get three likes and then be forgotten like all my other posts? Is there still people here?

Every day, I gain more followers. 2-3 a day once I blocked the bots. I used to gain about 10 followers a day in the past. And even if I get more followers, I get less and less notifs. I see the amount of people interested in my kink lower as time passes.

And I totally understand! Who wants to masturbate on some misogynist content when there are more and more actual misogynists being elected and fighting to strip women’s rights away? I feel misogyny kink isn’t a way to escape the real world anymore.

Some days, it’s hard for me too. I feel bad for reblogging misogynist stuff, I get original posts ideas but don’t post them because I don’t want to look like I’m encouraging it.

So I’m reblogging. But now I add more and more posts about consent, women’s rights, about trump and his asslickers. I miss the days where I felt like I didn’t have to justify my kink. The days where my kink was too absurd to be an actual belief.

I believe in the importance of consent and aftercare. Don’t put words in my mouth. And I definitely should have taken the habit of talking/reblogging about it earlier. What I miss are the days where actual misogynists didn’t have a voice and a president. The days where incels were isolated on 4chan and not partying in the streets.

I love doing education. I love giving people a safe space where they can discover a new kink and learn how to enjoy it. But sometimes I also like to stop educating, just give in and enjoy my kink. Because as much as education is necessary, it can be tiring. And if I started loving misogyny at first is because it allowed me to disconnect from the real world.

It doesn’t allow me to do this anymore.

I’ll keep going, don’t worry. I won’t delete my blog. Because I started being on tumblr for my own pleasure and even if nobody interacts with my blog anymore, I can still interact with others and enjoy myself.

Also, I sometimes am an optimist. Yeah, the world is going really bad right now. But it can get better. We have to work for it to be better. And once the world is better, maybe more people will start enjoying my kink again. I hope all of this will be like the tumblr porn ban of 2018 (for the 3 of us who endured it and are still here). It was harsh and violent at first, but then slowly came back to something more acceptable. Maybe one day I won’t scream into the void anymore and the void will answer to me.

But how long do I have to scream in the void? How long do I have to be on my island before people want to visit me again? How long do I have to keep posting in the hope one person gets interested and learns about themself thanks to me? How long before it’s obvious that what I enjoy is only a kink and not my actual beliefs?

So, for the 5 of you who took the time to read all of this, I want to say thank you. You make me feel like this void I’m screaming in isn’t totally empty. I’ll keep fighting and survive in the hope of better days to come.

Tom and Zendaya are so adorable❤. I wonder what it's like to have this kind of connection with someone, wish I could experience just once in my life.

Anyway there's a comment on the post that says "they are always so in sync. This is me and my sister" and someone replies that she and her brother and sister-in-law are the same. And it just made me think about all those anons who love coming onto people's blogs to tell them how they are wrong to think there's something romantic between Jimin and JK because "I do what they do with my brother/My sister and I always behave the same way."

Tomdaya are engaged to be married and there are strangers who compare the way they are with each other to how they are with their blood-related family..

This is what I've been trying to say since 2018; that a certain type of dynamic or bond or whatever you wanna call it can exist in many different types of relationships. Just because you watch Jimin and Jungkook and see some aspects in their relationship that remind you of the relationship you share with your sibling or friend, it still does NOT cancel out the possibility of Jimin and Jungkook being more than friends (and vice versa, of course). Friends, siblings, cousins, parents & their children, and LOVERS can ALL be in sync with one another, share the same unique sense of humour, always be lost in their own little world and finish each other's sentences. It's not only exclusive to one type of relationship.

I always find those anons so stupid and frustrating. And it's not only them, unfortunately. To this day you'll still find "this is like me and my brother, shippers are so weird for forcing a sexual/romantic relationship on these boys" comments under Jikook videos. Like okay you are siblings and you do that, but that doesn't mean it's the same for all other people who do it as well. Life doesn't work like that.

You could be right about them only being just like brothers (we don't know) but people should really stop try and stop judging the world based on their own personal lived experiences and thinking just because one thing is true for them that it's definitely a Universal truth.

This is something I’ve said countless times. Relationships don’t follow a single, set dynamic. Some couples have a “best friend” energy, while others might even give off “sibling energy” depending on the day..and both are completely valid.

I find it amusing when people try to assign specific qualities to certain types of relationships, as if those traits are exclusive to particular relationships. For example, arguing that two people must be in a romantic relationship because they’re “soft” with each other, or dismissing others as not being romantic simply because they play fight or roughhouse, is far too simplistic.

If you’re viewing relationships in such a narrow, rigid way, it likely points to a lack of experience or maturity in understanding how human connections actually work. Relationships are nuanced, varied, and deeply personal…they rarely fit neatly into predefined boxes.

A single relationship can embody multiple dynamics that come to light at different times. Couples aren’t confined to always being soft and tender with each other, just as siblings aren’t limited to roughhousing or being playfully mischievous. These behaviors can exist in any type of relationship, regardless of its nature. Relationships are fluid and multifaceted, and it’s those variations that make them so rich and authentic. If some people still refuse to understand this, then I don’t know what else to say.

In many ways, I blame romance movies, novels, and the way the media has portrayed certain types of relationships for so long. A lot of people haven’t had the chance to witness or experience the wide range of dynamics that real relationships involve, so they latch onto these idealized versions and genuinely believe that’s how life and love are supposed to work.

This is why people are so quick to dismiss relationships as “less ideal” when they’re confronted with the complexity and nuance of reality. They’ve been conditioned to expect picture-perfect romances filled with softness and fluff, without any room for the challenges, growth, or tough love that real relationships often require.

It’s honestly a bit sad when you think about it. That narrow view not only limits their understanding of life and love but also prevents them from appreciating the depth and beauty of relationships that don’t fit the fantasy mold.

hi anon! <3 i have no idea how much you know already, or if you basically don't know anything related to these three, or any of them. i will say that i have no screenshots concerning the things that i mention, but searching their names up on tumblr and/or scrolling through blogs like @/shit-talk-turner and @/alexstorm will make things more clear.

this whole thing started when louise posted a screenshot yesterday of an am fan saying some dumb shit about her in the comments and bringing up alexa (i still can't believe she posted this). she posted this with some equally stupid words (i don't have the screenshot - you can find it on twitter/tumblr/ig/tiktok/wherever), and matt then reposted her story, jumping to protect her (maybe amanda did too, i don't know). then she managed to screenshot some nice comments and posted those too, saying that 'love always wins' or something similar, and that haters can kiss her ass (this definitely didn't come across as her craving and asking for some compliments; she definitely doesn't need people babying her in order for her to feel good about herself) - which reminded me of something similar that amanda said like a year ago, that they don't pay attention to the haters anyways, of course after posting a long paragraph paying attention to them (makes me laugh just to think about it).

there are so many other hysterical and foolish things she does, like posting pictures of a messy bed (look, i'm fucking alex turner!), selfies with suspicious rings, other pics hinting at alex's presence, calling paparazzis to take pictures of them on the beach, pretending to be jane birkin and alex to be serge gainsbourg, going off about how independent she is while living off of alex's money, somehow managing to make matt's and amanda's marriage about her (with amanda encouraging her), 'accidentally' always doing these when miles has important things going on, etc etc (the fact that her and miles never interacted in real life is also deeply concerning. alex, dear, you should always trust your best friend when they don't like your partner, they always end up being right - especially knowing that miles was always on really good terms with alex's exs). it's clear that she's deeply insecure and adores when the attention is on her and when people are talking about her, and if she goes for a long period without this, she just has to pull something that will get fans talking. she's trying so hard to fit in and be the sexy rockstar girlfriend that she just ends up looking stupid.

about amanda... now, if i remember correctly, amanda had a blog dedicated to her music, and people dug up some screenshots in which she replies to someone and uses the n-word, and then another post where she's being racist. these screenshots are somewhere in the depths of my phone and it would be impossible to find them, and regardless, these screenshots are so old that she could've well changed for the better since then.

the problem with her is the fact that she's having arguments in the comments with young fans (asking stuff like did they have brain tumours for breakfast and other ridiculous things...or was that louise?) and posts even more ridiculous stories in response to people bullying louise, and protecting her like she's a toddler who can't take care of herself. the pure arrogance and self-importance with which she communicates her ideas is just mental, she thinks that she's on the top of the world, and encourages louise to act the same way. it's baffling that two 40-ish women think that bullying 14 year olds will achieve anything other than encouraging other 'fans' to act the same way.

the thing about matt is just basically the fact that ever since he's been with amanda, he acts the same way as her. now, i know there's been some issue about some idiots commenting about his daughter, which made him deactivate his ig account, and i have absolutely no words for the people who dared to say anything about that poor, innocent, completely blameless child. but even before this, he turned to the same kind of arrogance as amanda and reposted all her stories concering louise. the way that they need to say over and over again what a good person louise is, how much alex loves her, how great their relationship is, how beautiful and kind and caring she is... makes you really question if she really is indeed all those things (especially if you opened those links i posted). more importantly, what exactly do they plan to achieve arguing with teenage girls? it's so childish, my god, they are only adding fuel to the fire. god knows what they're telling alex and also god knows what he thinks about it all.

there's something that i'm not 100% sure about, but i'm gonna say it in the hopes that someone will see this and will tell me if this is wrong or not: matt cheated on breana when both her parents died (this one is definitely true), and left her with 1 year old amelia, and fucked off to live with another woman (amanda denies being the woman in question, i have no idea). she was solo parenting for a while (breana said all these in a podcast), then matt woke up and decided that he wants something to do with his daughter after all, and ever since then he takes care of her too - good job love, you're still horrible though.

in short, l&a's insanely childish antics dragged matt into the whole thing too. they're constantly throwing hissy fits, in hopes to achieve god knows what, and then they feel proud of themselves for telling teenage girls off. which makes you think, what would happen if am would be 10 times more popular than they are know, and louise would get 10 times the hate she gets now? or even better, what would happen if louise would get the same amount of hate miles gets on the daily? she said in her screenshot that she knows that it's only a minority of the fandom that leave such mean comments - then what's the point of paying attention to it? all this just shows another reason why these two definitely don't like each other - miles has brains, the other one... well, i'm sorry. i tried my best to like them and look past their mistakes,but i just can't do it.

For question 12:

Vian - Birthday is December 17th (i think. i have it in a blog post somewhere on my main but that sounds right). In terms of character creation he’s been around for ~2 years? I assign birthdays of characters based on vibes rather than the day i made them lol. He thinks celebrating his birthday is kind of a waste of time, considering he’s immortal.

Koi - April 5th. He’s one of my oldest ocs in my current lineup next to Kate and TBR. He’s existed since maybe 2018? 2019? he started as an oc on roblox royale high (i’ve since stopped playing) and existed like before the beach house was even added on there if that helps the timeline at all. he existed between divinia realm removal and beach house ok. he came before the mardi gras update. god that game is so ingrained in my core memory. it makes me feel sad to look at it now. Anyways he likes celebrating his birthday :) he does get a little stressed over it though because he feels uncomfortable about the fact that he Can’t really age and hasn’t been aging for a while.

Rosé - Also in December but I don’t think I assigned a specific day. I think he chooses to celebrate himself on Christmas Eve though :). he definitely goes all out because he grew up in a community that didn’t really celebrate birthdays (he probably doesn’t even know when his actual one is) so having the privilege to have a day for him is something really special to him.

For question 15:

Vian - Vian’s an only child. Originally he had two younger siblings but they weren’t my characters and i’m no longer in contact with the person who they belong to, so I’ve since scrapped that. Also he doesn’t really have older sibling energy anymore lol. His extended family is practically nonexistent beyond his parents. He lives alone (Ray stays in the D.A. Sanctuary), but visits his parents often.

Koi - Also an adopted only child! Why are there so many of these? Who knows! His only currently alive family member is his mother and probably a few aunts and uncles he’s never met. I haven’t really decided if he should live 100% on his own in current canon or not since there is another character he originally lived with but i’m kinda struggling to like,,, find them compelling now if that makes sense. so as of right now he lives alone.

Rosé - Any family he’s ever had is long dead. Not that he’d consider them family. In the community he grew up in the children were kinda shared between adults. He was never close with any of them and seen more as a test from God.

Vian:

TBR would describe him as hardworking. A good kid. More isolated than he should be, maybe, but he’s got a good head on his shoulders.

Octavia would describe him as kind. Maybe a little socially awkward, but polite.

Zee would describe him as a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He’s a spineless coward and a creep.

Ophelia sees him as an easy exploit. Extremely easy to blackmail. she knows he has more skeletons in the closet than he lets on, and sees right through his professional demeanor. Fortunately for him, the few secrets of his she keeps are enough to keep him in her debt, and her satiated.

Koi:

TBR would describe him as malleable, but not the brightest. He’s useful, but he’s not someone he’d set expectations for.

Hollywood would describe him as a loyal friend, but a guy who definitely needs to start getting his shit together.

Rosé:

Aisling would describe him as lonely. He’s terrifying, yeah, but Aisling thinks that at the root of it is someone hurting. Someone who needs company. and he’s not wrong. he’s not visiting him just out of pity though. he’s lonely too.

What's your take on fedole?

Hi anon! I'll start off with a shameless plug because one of my takes on Fedole can be found in the 16k oneshot I wrote about them a while back :) I made them get along better than the fandom usually does because I thought that was something new to contribute and it's the kind of story I feel comfortable writing, i.e. "A slow burn, 'getting to know and learning to live with each other' story." as I phrased it at the time. But there's certainly a lot of potential for drama in their dynamic that I like to read about too!

If you want to have a look, I've talked about Fedole before a bit, for example here and in the tags of this post I made about Roger's retirement and 'Twelve Final Days'. (Everything is still tagged "nole and roger" on my blog currently. One day I'll get around to adding the ship name tags but for now that's how you should be able to find posts about Fedole there.)

The dynamic between them is fascinating to me and lends itself very well to interesting stories, what with Roger (sometimes strongly and very openly) disliking Novak and being dismissive of him but Novak clearly looking up to him at the start of his career (albeit while also quite confidently stating his intentions to beat Roger, which pissed Roger off further), the fact that they both are very charismatic but from very different backgrounds, and while one of them chose to shy away from any and all controversies the other often does quite the opposite, the fact that they have had somewhat similar roles in the sport (at different times and at different points in their career, but still) to the point that some fans like to call Novak Roger's "heir", their very different views on tennis politics (players' council conflicts, Nole establishing the PTPA and Roger speaking up against it etc.), the fact that they both were friendly with Rafa for a couple of years until the relationship between Rafa and Novak pretty abruptly got less close...

There's just a lot of very interesting aspects to this relationship. Add to all of that backstory the sudden entente cordiale at Laver Cup 2018, where they're joking around with each other and playing doubles with each other and giggling during the slightly tipsy winner's press conference where Roger straight up tells the journalists that his favourite moment was "spending time with Novak"?! And then Roger's retirement where Roger seems a bit apologetic towards Novak and really unsure of where they stand and Novak is his usual exuberant and sentimental self and somehow during the retirement ceremony Roger ends up telling Novak something important which has Novak literally clinging to him and sobbing in his arms?! They have been pretty cordial with each other since then, see e.g. Roger greeting Novak with "Hey! old man" in Shanghai (and he had previously called him "brother" before at LC 2018 as well...) and Roger watching Novak play there for the first time and from his reactions pretty clearly rooting for him...

I often wish there were these "actors on actors" style conversations between tennis players where they interview each other - surely the Novandy instagram live during the pandemic has shown how intersting that could be? Well, if this format ever makes it into the tennis world I would love to see Novak and Roger have a chat. It could get interesting.

There are a lot more things to say about Fedole but I'll leave it at that for now. Basically, to cut a long post short: I think the dynamic is absolutely fascinating and there should be more fics!

all right, i guess that's a wrap, if not just for now, then perhaps for this blog, given the direction of the people owning the site. i guess i still do have some closing thoughts. this is the first time i've ever closed something i've done long term like this, so i'll be floundering a bit. i'll start somewhere short before i probably keep rambling into a keep reading...

October 2018, huh? six 'n' a half years of this blog. that's- it's wild, now that i try and conceptualize it. i've been doing this for almost a quarter of my life! i did it because the switch could only hold 100 videos on hardware, and there was yet another limit of 1,000 videos on SD cards, and i was like, "that's not enough." so i decided to stash them on my laptop, and figured i might as well post 'em somewhere at that point, and now, this blog has 17,173 posts. the vast majority of those being vids! and like, i had to have clipped WAY more, when you think about how many i've edited together, especially recently with longer games and stuff. nuts. i'm just not over that length of time. i haven't enjoyed, or chosen to do something for that long before. good way to spend my 20s, really. and it's kind of the reason i got a girlfriend, so y'know ;p

one reason i'm choosing to stop now is that i'm plain ol' getting tired, and i don't want to try and fill the queue in hopes that i can figure something out before that runs out. just make it a break i can ride out until i get the itch to continue down some road. i do like this whole video thing on the whole, so i'd probably continue it, and it'll probably be on youtube? kinda by default, really. i feel kinda wishy washy on trying streaming, so more likely to just keep being videos. always did want some longer form stuff, maybe some voiced. i do hope it'll be under the same name, i love being HazelsLuck. this last MRD thing has me more interested than ever in trying my hand at mashing, so maybe a bit of that. eh, i should be going full stop, full stop, and stop spitballing for now. if the blog is still up when i get going- and i assure you, taking it down is not something i will choose to do myself- i'll be sure to post some links here.

i want to give a thanks for everyone who passed by here and added something every now and again, reblogged or liked any clips i ever posted. i can only hope that others, in some way or another, liked or appreciated some facet of any of these clips or the words i put with them. this was an amazing time, and again, thank you.

Hello! :] I saw your post recently regarding the pervasive feeling of shame in newer fans re: Danganronpa, and it really resonated. I wanted to offer my two cents as a fandom old/armchair fandom archeologist that's hopefully a little heartening:

I remember back in 2012/2013 when Danganronpa was beloved, during the height of the SomethingAwful TL days. It was a genuinely fun time to be into things, especially as people were getting excited for an EN release, something that I do think the fandom deserves a little credit in making happen. I was there for the UDG release, DR3 anime, and the lead-up to v3's release, and unfortunately, I think the fact that all three of those entries were in some ways polarizing effectively memory-holed a lot of people into believing Danganronpa was never "good" to begin with, which makes it a lot easier to pick out its flaws and give it a bit of a weird reputation now.

(As a tangent, but some more context that might help: Danganronpa also got really big on my neck of the woods in Tumblr during one of the big Homestuck hiatuses. Back in the day there was a lot of fandom crossover, which I don't really think is the case nowadays, but I think for people that were either in both fandoms and had negative experiences, or people outside who disliked either/or, they've been inextricably linked together as part of a particular "time" in Tumblr/internet history that isn't remembered fondly. So, I have a theory that a lot of secondhand Danganronpa disdain comes from misplaced disdain for the other Big Thing at the time.

This also overlapped with the tail end of the big SuperWhoLock era to my memory, which is usually much more focused on which discussing Tumblr history. Which is a shame, because I feel like this particular transitional era of Tumblr "fandom" history has been underdiscussed because of it!

None of this is excusing some of the things I've seen said about DR fans and the ways people have been iced out for liking it, but I find trying to understand the factors at play always helps my mind figure out how to process these things.)

However: time moves on. This isn't permanent. Having gone back and re-experienced the whole series some 5+ years removed, I was able to find joy in parts of the series that, while I was in the thick of a shift in fandom attitude, didn't appreciate as much as I think I should have. I didn't absolutely love everything, but I had so much fun, it almost felt like I was experiencing things again for the first time.

I want to believe the same thing will happen as we get some time removed, as people get nostalgic for things and get older and understand that you can love something flawed, criticize it, and not feel shame for it. I always welcome fresh faces discovering something for the first time, but I think that some day, a lot of older fans can come back and embrace it as well. Sometimes you need time and life and a few extra years on you. I'm living proof of it! :P

Of course, this is just one person's perspective from one slice of the fandom. But I remain hopeful. There really is nothing else quite like Danganronpa for me, warts and all. You don't have to post this publicly or anything if you don't want to, but I wanted to offer a little hope to go with your thoughts. :') and I hope you have a great day!

Oh man, I really really appreciate this message. I am really interested in the perspective of fans who have been here for so long, and I always feel a little out of my depth talking about old (read: 2018 and before) DR fandom because despite seeing a Lot of it in my blog-diving, I still wasn't there. It's genuinely wonderful to hear that it was beloved like that, even if only fully for the first two installments.

I HAVE noticed a weird amount of homestuck/dr crossover in my searches, so that totally makes sense! Hell, my first exposure to DR on tumblr was a homestuck blog I followed back in 2017/2018ish (for the artstyle, I haven't read homestuck) that also posted a lot about Kazuichi. That's super cool!

While I feel like today, there is at least a little bit of fondness (even if it is a little ironic) for superwholock days, I see very little talk of homestuck. And when I do, it is usually with the same flavour of "Wow that fandom was so crazy" as old-DR.

I think there is usually this reactionary retrospective on site-wide popular fandoms to some degree after they start to wane in size. I saw it when I was in the TMA fandom. That thing was a monster, and over all I felt more stressed there than I ever feel now with DR. And after it ended, and really even During those last few episodes, you could feel a level of distaste for the piece of media growing. Although it never really reached critical mass like DR.

Maybe its even more apparent with something like Steven Universe- when it was actively coming out there was so much disdain for it (from some people) and for the fandom. I was there, on the sidelines, but I saw it all and it wasn't fun. But after its finale and a couple years of silence, people now seem to have come around and realized, whoa, so much about all that discourse was way overblown. I feel like a couple years ago there could still have been this sense of "cringe" posting about steven universe, while today its a lot more neutral.

Of course, it's kind of weird to compare DR and SU, and the nature of outside of fandom perspectives on them is not the same. The level of disdain for people posting SU never reached the point of DR either. But if it's anything to go by, I feel like there is hope eventually for people to stop having an immediate knee-jerk reaction to it. To look back and realize, "hey, that was actually pretty good," or "I didn't really appreciate this the first time." Or even just "It's fine actually to have nuanced take on this piece of media I don't like that concludes with them still liking it." I feel like we already got a mini-version of that in 2020, but since that's when I joined I can't speak too much on it.

Small tangent aside, I really appreciate this. I also hope people can come back around to it, or at least appreciate that it made them or other people happy at the time c:

Algorithms of Oppression - Blog Post #3

What are some long-term consequences of Technological Redlining that Noble mentions? In the book, Algorithms of Oppression, the author, Safiya Noble defined the term technological redlining to highlight the oppressive social relationships and forms of racial profiling that have been coded into our digital algorithms on the internet. The author first wants us to recognize who is creating these values and types of digital decisions that are reinforcing racial and sexist inequalities. Regarding long-term consequences, these are already happening in our world and continue today. One large issue has been the workforce widening the wage gap for women and Black folks by upholding the standards for hiring White men over other marginalized groups. Our digital world and access is not neutral or objective but reflects the actions and behaviors of who set it up and for what purpose the programs were set up for. This is an attempt to forcibly remove access for women and people of color and ultimately reinforces racist and sexist oppressive systems when simply applying for jobs. Another long-term issue that continues today, is the objectification of Black women, for example when googling “Black girls” pulls up pornography websites for racially marginalized women, reinforcing other concepts Noble has coined, “Algorithmic oppression”. We need to understand that the digital world is created by humans, assumingly White men, and if this is the result of simply searching up “Black girls”, then what does this tell us about how they view Black people? These create further harmful long-term consequences that negatively limit marginalized groups from equal access as simple as getting hired and reinforces their views on Black bodies as objects and dehumanizes, to be considered less than human beings(Noble, 2018, p.24-33). 

2. Why should we be concerned about popular search engines like Google?

I believe globally people are blinded by the intense overarching access the internet like Google has provided us, and forget how dangerous and weaponized these engines can be used for. This is especially true for White, male, cis/het, and high class identity groups that are responsible for the creation of such algorithms and aren't impacted the same way due to our harmful social system and power structures. Google is one of the most famous search engines globally and used all the time for day-to-day simple tasks, but we need to remember who coded and created these algorithms. As Noble says in, Algorithms of Oppression, “Google Search is an advertising company, not a reliable information company(Noble, 2018, p.34)”. This search engine is responsible for multiple racially oppressive forms by reinforcing racial and gender inequalities, like supporting the false idea of Black folks being facial recognized as “apes” and/or “animals”, limiting hiring access based on gender and race, and continuously “pornifying” women of color to name a few. Through all these negative consequences of oppressive algorithms, Noble urges the need to fight back, and raise voices of concerns in order to impact and change public policy on how marginalized groups are being constrained and negatively viewed in the digital world. As educated individuals we should be spreading this information and awareness to find search engine alternatives that don't reinforce systemic inequalities and discriminatory behavior(Noble, 2018, p.24-36).

3. Why does something as simple as your name hold more weight and potential consequences for racially marginalized groups?  

In the book, Race After Technology, by Ruha Benjamin starts the chapter, The New Jim Code, discussing issues and concerns on naming their child as a Black and Arabic parent. As we know our names are important titles of our own personal identities that depict our families history through religion, nationality, gender, race, and ethnicity. Something as simple and empowering as naming your child for marginalized groups holds more concerning weight due to the extensive amount of racial profiling and discrimination, like when going to the airport, getting a job, or getting into schools. Benjamin shares a research experiment depicting the difference in callbacks for jobs depending on White-sounding names versus Black-sounding names examined the stark difference in racial treatment. “White-sounding first names received 50 percent more callbacks from employers than job seekers with Black-sounding names. They calculated that the racial gap was equivalent to eight years of relevant work experience, which White applicants did not actually have(Benjamin, 2019, p.22)” It's a difficult decision for racially marginalized parents to choose a name they know will systematically impact the way their child maneuvers through a binarily opposed world(Benjamin, 2019, p.16-22). 

4. How can White folks further understand their own racial identities to further prevent racist behavior and thought?

As a White American of Euro-Welsh descent, I find a lot of my White family, friends, and peers to understand racism and racial inequality but always struggle to fully define their own racial identity and culture. In the book, Race After Technology, by Ruha Benjamin, she mentions how her White students failed at understanding their own racial identity saying their name is “normal” and that they are “cultureless” as a White person. The author states, “Invisibility, with regards to Whiteness, offers immunity. To be unmarked by race allows you to reap the benefits but escape responsibility for your role in an unjust system…Whiteness works for them like an armor and force field when dealing with the police. A “normal” name is just one of many tools that reinforce racial invisibility(Benjamin, 2019, p. 21)”. The fact that there are White people who don't consider themselves to have “culture” or “race” further widens the gap of racial inequality by ignoring heightened racial privilege in this world. By truly understanding and shaping your own healthy cultural and racial identity is one of the first steps for acknowledging the harmful ways marginalized folks are treated based on race and ethnicity. White folks should spend time learning and understanding what makes us White, what privileges and advantages does Whiteness bring to our lives, and how we should be using these privileges to help and protect marginalized groups from the unequal systemic powers. Unfortunately due to our history and present systems of power, White Americans hold more advantage in this world, so instead of feeling guilty about it, or hiding behind it, we should be actively fighting back against racially oppressive systems by using that advantage. I really enjoyed Benjamin's quote about how it's the White person's responsibility to fight back in the racially oppressed system. Just recognizing racial privilege doesn't solve anything but further prevent us, ourselves, from unnecessarily harming marginalized racial groups. We need to be educating our family, friends, and peers, updating them and teaching them by doing the hard work ourselves, to prevent racist behavior, thought, and action(Benjamin, 2019, p. 16-22).

The similarities between closeted right-wingers and Chris Evans

Recently, I saw how Chris Evans met Joe Biden. For people who don't know. Chris Evans has a political online platform called ASP. This was not the first time he met a famous politican but meeting the president of the United States is something else. It should be clear by now why he does that... Anyway, it reminded me of the gossip I found recently:

As I mentioned in my last big blog post, about Chris' potential boyfriends, I am not really a fan of marvel and didn't know much about him during his time as Captain America. I only got interested after he started the cringeworthy PR relationship in November 2022. In 2018, I was made aware of how many closeted celebrities exist and Mr. Evans being so clumsy with his Portugal bride gave me the perfect opportunity to uncover this Hollywood facade.

As you can see, I have also been asked by a lot of people why I think Chris could be closeted (either gay, bi or a straight guy who doesn't want to commit and just sleeps around). I will answer these questions in relation to today's topics: I. The Portugal PR relationship is mostly done for his future political career (or that was the plan before the backlash) II. The behavior of closeted right-wingers resembles Chris Evans' III. Portugal Bride was not the first PR relationship rumor but why does a rich, attractive and alleged womanizer like Chris need PR relationships all the time? As I always say. Everything on my tumblr is alleged. I merely summarize what people speculate online and give my own opinion on that.

Tim Scott, a failed GOP 2024 candidate and alleged closeted gay man, announced on X that he got engaged to a woman:

As you can see from the screenshot, no one's buying it. It is rumored Tim Scott is doing this because he will be chosen as Trump's vice president. People online claim that Tim Scott being gay has been talked about way before the first "Why doesn't have Tim Scott have a girlfriend" articles:

I heard about Tim Scott being gay and being pressured to have a PR girlfriend around the same time Chris pretended to have gotten married in September and that made me think... I can't find the comment anymore but I remember someone of Chris' fans on the LSA forum suggesting that Chris' "A starting point" political platform isn't just for shits and giggles. Apparently, he wants to go into politics after his acting career. No idea how successful he will be now with that after his latest movie flops and the Portugal relationship having led to lost followers on his social media accounts because it made him appear as a "dollar store Leonardo DiCaprio" but in general..., this idea isn't too far off. Remember the Terminator aka Arnold Schwarzenegger? An action hero became the Governor of California and with Chris Evan's fake Captain America image, pretending online and in interviews to be like Steve Rogers, he could sway a lot of people too!

Remember. The alleged marriage wasn't the first PR relationship of Chris Evans. At least according to his fandom, when they explained how he and Portugal Bride met, he was involved in several other PR relationships before:

According to this person, the relationships with Christina Ricci and Minka Kelly from long ago, were planned by a PR team too and it adds up with a blog post I found years ago about how Minka is allegedly a beard for my back then favorite actor Jake Gyllenhaal. So his PR team not only allegedly had several options next to the Portugal Bride (like Monica Barbaro) but they were apparently also responsible for his faked relationship with Lily James? It is rumored that Lily wanted more from this PR arrangement from back in 2020. Possibly real love? The social media site Icons+ reports that "Lily James left Chris Evans to be a millionaire's "other woman"". She basically publicly "cheated" on Chris and many gossip sites reported on it. Did Lily do that as revenge because Chris solely wanted PR and rejected her? Kinda like "if you don't give me real love, I ain't giving you positive PR either". It makes me wonder though. Why would a heterosexual man privately reject a pretty woman like Lily James after wanting to be seen with her in paparazzi photographs after all? Odd.

Yes, Chris' alleged personal Paparazzo with the name Jesal basically admitted that he was called to do the pictures with Lily back in 2020 (Nowadays, he seems to be busy with the Portugal PR relationship as you can see from the screenshot, where he was called for a christmas party Portugal Bride and Chris attended). This reminds me of of another failed 2024 GOP candidate who is rumored to be closeted. There is a medium article regarding Ron DeSantis called "Is the GOP gossiping that Ron DeSantis is gay?", how most if not all of the GOP party know about his alleged homosexualty:

As you can see, not just his own party but the general public thinks so too. In fact, they speak about Ron DeSantis' being closeted the same way some people speak about Chris being allegedly closeted:

The replies to this dailymail article about Chris' and Portugal Bride's relationship-reveal, demonstrate that people think that both Chris and Ron overplay the alpha male macho tough guy image, solely to cover their true sexual orientation.

But PR relationships can also have another function. As I pointed out on my blog before: There are many heterosexual men I know who just wanted to sleep around but because of societal pressure, they pretend to be monogamous. The latest political example of that seems to be Gavin Newsom who has been in the news for being an alleged serial cheater. He was already caught cheating back in 2007. On X I found this summary of his latest shenanigans: (TRIGGER WARNING: mention of SA)

Why do I mention Ron DeSantis and Gavin Newsom in relation to Chris Evans? Because they all have one thing in common. A fake stable married man image. Look at the header picture of DeSantis and Newsom on X. Newsom holding his son in his harm. A few weeks ago, DeSantis had a header picture of holding his children's hands and the latest picture, you can see right now, also shows his wife and kids again to portray the family man image while allegedly being someone completely different (a closet case = Ron, a cheater= Gavin). Sorry not sorry but when I saw those header images combined with the rumors I knew about those two guys, I immediately though that Chris is not so different. He also calls the paparazzi, so he can be portrayed for the public as a guy who has a stable relationship and doesn't randomly sleep around in all kids of places.

As someone pointed out on the Lipstick Alley thread called "Chris Evans Relationship Theories 5", he used to go to parties similar to the ones seen in the movie "Eyes Wide Shut" but these rumors were allegedly scrapped by his team when he became Captain America. Why did they worry so much about this specific gossip? Was it true after all? Apparently this goes back as far as 2006:

I have no problems with that because I am pro sexual liberation. I actually point this out so we can normalize this and let people be who they really are, so that they don't have to do these fake relationships anymore.

I mean, remember the screenshot from my "Chris Evans possible boyfriends" post? The user ShellyT20... how she described that a lot of PR relationships in Hollywood exist because the male actors either sleep with each other, have p-word scandals and/or are serial cheaters "but post fake romance stuff on IG and other public platforms. It gives a fake sense of normalcy and stability and shuts fans up for the most part as well as acting as a distraction." When I read this I got reminded of the public "beyond the blinds podcast" episode you can listen to on spotify. The one about the Hemsworth brothers. There it was alleged that Chris Hemsworth is constantly cheating. I wasn't surprised. He isn't my type but I can't deny that he is what most consider super attractive + tall + rich = in no way is this guy monogamous as a famous hollywood actor (LMAO the audactiy to even thinkt hat)... Sadly, when I confront some people with that... for instance Evans fans on LSA or X, most roll their eyes and don't believe that.... They were like: "How can a guy like C. Hemsworth, who posts social media posts about loving being a father and being married for over a decade possibly be such a bad guy"... ... ... ... ... Well and this the reason why Hollywood still fools you with PR relationships because most of you are gullible. You want to see men married with children and as long as the women are age appropriate, you eat it up. And all this goes even beyond these Hollywood celebrities and politicians the general public is aware of. Apparently, even e-celebs are in PR relationships/fake image relationships these days. The youtuber TheQuartering, who said he was partying with right-wing e-celebs said this about them last year: (TRIGGER WARNING: transphobic slur)

Just like how Chris Evan's fans are disappointed that he wasn't the internet boyfriend after all (his fake image for the 2010s) and started to date random young women like Leonardo DiCaprio and Bradley Cooper, TheQuartering was disappointed too with his right-wing colleagues, who pretended to be committed husbands with children while actually being a closeted pride parade. The right-wing commentarors TheQuartering talks about are: Elijah Schaffer, Jack Posobiec and Mike Cernovich. When I found that out I was shocked. I was like "So even these e-celebs are basically "their own Hollywood club" and need PR relationships to function publicly". It really shows how deep gender roles are still ingrained in our society. That even internet-famous people have to have a family man image and portray themselves in a certain way to become "e-celeb-A-list". And if they don't, they will be denied that status.

I know it hurts that your favorite A-list stars are also wife cheaters and that their activism is most likely fake only so that they can continue participating in Hollywood orgies (Which apparently already happen on the e-celeb level). But at one point it had to come out and isn't it better to accept reality than to participate in and support these fake scenarios only to feel better about the world? Cause it is not just TheQuartering who exposed the fake image of the right-wing online community. Blaire White, a right-winger herself, pointed out the same. As people say, where there is smoke, there is fire:

Lastly, one of the most famous right-wing e-celebs is Steven Crowder. On his channel he had a video where he once admitted that he had a bisexual phase... a phase..

He also went so far and basically created beard twins. I remember clearly the video where he announced the pregnancy of his wife. He held up a picture into the camera from an ultrasound. It was like "See, I am hetero after all. Are you happy now?". That's at least my opinion on how the video looked like and it adds up with what peole usually say about him:

Honestly, if someone had told me that this text is about Chris Evans, I'd have believed it and so now we have come full circle. While I only know about Chris Evan's since the pandemic (As I said, I don't watch super hero movies), I am still disappointed. In some interviews, he appeared so adorable, awkward and different from other men in Hollywood (like when he was interviewed about his "Lightyear movie announcement" tweet on Jimmy Kimmel). But in the end he is no better than the closeted republicans. Portraying a conservative image of marriage while behind closed doors it is worse than a sitcom trying to convince you that canned laughter makes everything funnier.

Yes, there have always been rumors that his real personality is being "weird and awkward" and that he is not just acting in movies but also in most interviews. It goes so far that someone claimed he had been rejected on a date and that's why some people assume it is actually him who initiated the Portugal PR relationship and basically paid for it because he can't get someone himself through normal means. Are some people punished with their good looks?

IMO just like with the married right-wing e-celebs who do orgies all the time, it is also a bad idea of Chris wanting to become a father (at least according to his "sexiest man alive" PR narrative from 2022 which seems to be in the trash can now too).

But let's assume his PR team has that still on their minds: Not only would it be solely for his image (which would make this situation PR either way, even if the marriage were real) but according to all his alleged wild ways, he is also unfit to parent, it would be a disaster actually. Controversial commentator Pearl Davis described it very well. How some people just shouldn't be parents:

And according to Hollywood insider and daughter of famous TV personality John Walsh, a lot of times, one partner of the arrangement is suffering. Is this really what you support? I don't and that's why I uncover all these PR relationships of the entertainment world because as a true progressive, I don't think that people should be judged based on outdated gender expectations like marriage and monogamy.

The closet kills... your real personality. I mean honestly, what do you gain from being remembered after your death as someone you never were? As Joan Rivers jokes at 0:43 in a short clip from 1966. This so called bearding has been going on forever. I don't think we need a 100th anniversary of this shameful practice. So please help me to expose this so that in the future, celebrities can become famous for truly being themselves.

Thirty entries, one a day minus a single make-up day where I did two. I wrote for four characters, one of which was never meant to be more than a background character in the first place. I don't have a word count and I'm not sure I want one - but I sure did write a lot. I've discovered that my comfy place right now is dialogue. I love writing snappy lines and character interactions, and I'm not as good with lengthy introspection or action scenes. This is a contrast to prior years, when I did write more long-form introspection.

Glad my art has been enjoyable for years...! At this point, I've got so many 'eras', it pleases me to think people can revisit specific time periods of my work and still feel strongly about it, even if long since past... Art is amazing, isn't it? ( °ヮ° )

I am still into Adventure Time, yes. 100% truth!! Amusingly enough... recently, me and my wife have been rewatching the series from the start! We're currently on season 5 of our rewatch. Amazing how many episodes still hold strong for me, a delight from start to finish.... I get so nostalgic with the memories of what it felt like watching episodes for the first time, my earnest reactions, and what still holds true... and what emotions have evolved over time.

In a way, I feel like I can't emphasize enough how often me and my wife rewatch AT, and parrot lines at each other. We have a kind of obsessive memorization of the series... The whimsy of the world building still feels unique, inspiring... When there is a long pan across, The Land of the Dead, or the Nightosphere, it is incredible, how much there is to observe, there's so many microcosms of circumstance, many strange magics, creatures... I like how often you can suddenly be presented with a concept mid episode that is jarring, disorienting, and also quickly brushed past -- simply another aspect of Ooo... The characters accept so much as Simply the way it Is. So you're immersed into the wordless acceptance of crazy stuff. And uhh, frankly we enjoy even the sillier things lol, like it's just so AT when you are meeting a guy named The Farm and he's got a barn for a body and deposits barn animals mysteriously from his body. It's good back to back with the more haunting things, like the Lub-glubs in Beautopia...

That's all the broad appreciation... More specifically, we love FINN so very much, he is the perfect boy lol, amazing protagonist. I do not think we could love AT so much if it weren't for Finn being incredibly charming. Love watching him in his naivety in early series, voice cracking shrieky boy, and him mellowing out a bit as he goes through things... But never really losing the edge of, passion, instability, just is a thoughtful learned boy via experience. Dumb as a brick often enough too... kawaii.

I think I will always have an appreciation for AT as a result...

(I want to be mostly positive so I won't linger on this, but I should mention that my heart mostly lies with early AT, esp S1-3... Absolute favorites. I feel less about late AT, because it kind of loses what loved about its direction originally. I didn't like the finale... and I refuse to engage with any of the spinoff material. I feel like that's important to know... Er, just for clarification. I don't want 'I like AT' to be extrapolated as liking the Other Stuff. Because I Do Not.)

.... *smiles placidly* but uhh I do not really have any more art or HCs for FinnFern, I pretty much Got everything out that I wanted to, back in 2017-2018. Like uahh, everything in my pixiv stacks & posted on my AT blog, was all I had inside me for FinnFern. It was a stimulating ship at the time, but ultimately not my main interest... Selfcest tends to be like that for me. >>; Sometimes I play in the space, buut for Fern I found myself really saddened by his arc & unsatisfied by canon. So in the end I wish he could assimilate back into Finn, or, ideally, never come to exist in the first place... He is a Finn, so I wish he could live the Finn Life, without having to be bisected like that...

I believe the last romp I had with Fern, was conceptualizing him bonding with Marceline, and then having a kind of 3way dynamic in Finn/Marcy/Fern. Which was very fun and I still enjoyed. Though I haven't revisited that eitherrrr...

Ultimately, my heart lies with muh OTP that I've shipped since 2011, FinnMarcy...~ And their episodes are my absolute favs....~ Marceline is my Other ultimate perfect favorite character, playful bully girl, immature, displaced... tragic, unstable as well! Aching form abandonment... I love her interplay with Finn the mooooost... You get episodes as lovely as It Came From the Nightosphere, and as silly as Marceline's Closet... and, early series tomfoolery suchas Henchman. Go With Me man...... It still hits...... So my modern day rumination, new HCs and such, are for those two ww... *trails off...*

So-!!!!! I have no followups to FinnFern... and I do not think I will ever revisit it, but I still like the work me & my wife did for it back then... I hope that simply pouring over it is enough for everyone. (´･ω･`)
