Feeling very bummed out that I missed the grant application for struggling comic creators. It would have allowed me 500 usd breathing room. That's what I make in a month. I've been struggling to finish my personal comic for almost two years now. I couldn't make a new portfolio in time because I couldn't afford the 4 usd monthly adobe fee. And I don't want to give Adobe or wix any money. A lot of sentiments right now in the wake of David Lynch's death is how a lot of people who pursue art cannot afford to be artists. I am one of those artistic people who spend my days drawing other people's ideas because mine is difficult to monetize- both emotionally and just in general. I just wish there was another way to live.

Howdy! I am considering submitting manuscripts I've written to a publisher or possibly self publishing. The publisher states on their website that authors must maintain an active social media presence. I'm not normally a social media type, Tumblr is my only one. What would you reccommend for such? Is it worth it to pay someone to make a website for me? Thanks and many virtual kisses for Dot and Deebs!
Honestly, I haven't submitted to a publisher since before a lot of modern social media existed. :D
It is my understanding, but this is secondhand information, that publishers want you to have either a twitter or a tiktok, preferably both, where you're frequently active and have a high follower count, because they want you to be able to publicize your book on it. One of many reasons I don't even consider trad publishing anymore is that I don't want to spend a significant chunk of my time filming videos for the sole purpose of hawking my books.
Now, as I said, that's an inference I've drawn; you may want to speak to someone who has been trad published recently to get the inside scoop (readers if you work in publishing or have been published recently, feel free to add commentary; remember to comment or reblogs, as I don't repost asks sent in response to other asks). I do have an author website but I built my own; I don't know what the going rate is for paying someone to build one these days but most website platforms are pretty intuitive to use -- I built mine on Wordpress and I'm building a new one on Wix currently, and at this point both are very drag-and-drop oriented. I do think a website is a good thing for an author to have, but I wouldn't pay someone to build one for you until you've taken a swing at DIY and decided it's not where you want to spend your time and energy.
In terms of self-publishing, the good news is that none of the rules apply; this is also the bad news. :D Because the thing about selfpub is that you either pay or DIY for...everything. It can be very inexpensive; when I publish a book the only direct monetary cost is what I pay for an ISBN and a proof copy of the book, which I will make back in the first 10 sales or so. However, I am "paying" in man hours in terms of typesetting, cover design, uploading the PDFs to lulu.com, proofing the initial copy, correcting the proof and reuploading (which usually involves further typesetting), and of course all the publicity -- website design and redesign, copywriting, tumblr posting. And while my profit per copy sold is well above what most authors with traditional publishers will make, that's because the publisher is doing a lot of the work for you. And, because I don't have an active twitter or tiktok or a publisher, my books are not very widely publicized. Undoubtedly I sell fewer copies than I would if I had a robust twitter following, but catch me touching that rancid wasteland without inch-thick gloves on.
So -- I think it's probably pretty important to understand that I have deliberately rejected trad publishing for good but not lucrative reasons, and I'm considered at best an iconoclast and more commonly a crank for having done so. If you can go the tradpub route, I would, but I also wouldn't put any money you're not prepared to write off as a loss into that pursuit. Definitely I would see if there's anyone in the industry you can reach out to who can answer these questions with a more thorough understanding of what publishers look for in an author and how to go about achieving that than I possess.
In any case, good luck! It's a journey regardless and I hope you enjoy your time on the path wherever you end up. And I'll give the cryptids a special cuddle for ya.

Let's talk about the spending bill they are proposing and i'll break it all down for you. Right now they are proposing to cut medicaid/medicare by $880,000,000,000 dollars, yes with a b. Food assistance programs like food stamps and wick by $230,000,000,000 dollars. And a $330,000,000,000 dollar cut to education when America reads on a 6TH GRADE LEVEL. 54% of the population in the U.S. reads on a 6th grade level and they want to cut down on the education system when people can't even read or write a proper paragraph. Also only 47% of the population can name all 3 branches of the government, this is scary. Now let's talk about what they are putting all this money to, these funds will be allocated to $4,500,000,000,000 dollar tax cuts to the ultra rich. Now how do we know it's for billionaires and not us? The US senate a couple days ago was going at it until around 4 am over a budget resolution. That conversation (and I use that word lightly) between the democrats and republicans in the senate showed who this tax cut is for. Connecticut senator Chris Murphy said in a tweet around 4am. “It's 4am - still debating republicans’ billionaire tax giveaway. We offered an amendment to say no tax cut for those making over $10m. Every republican voted no., so we tried $100m. Every republican voted no. So we tried $500m! Every republican no. see what's going on?” Now who does that leave? Billionaires. The house of representatives proposed a spending bill that's all public knowledge just goes on congress.gov. So they wanna cut 880 billion dollars from the committee of energy and commerce. Now while that is a large number just please understand that the committee of energy and commerce has the broadest jurisdiction of any committee in congress. Basically they oversee a lot, examples being: food and drug safety, public health, also medicaid and medicare. Now because their focus is very broad that it can be argued that medicaid and medicare isn't what they are going after, after all 90 million americans are on medicaid or medicare. Specifically, cuts to medicaid/medicare would disproportionately impact red states. Red states receive more federal funding than they have ever contributed in general so cutting any sort of federal funding is going to have a detrimental effect on the people, specifically health care though. Red states have higher proportions of low income aging populations that rely on medicaid. So shutting it down is not only going to stress those red states and republican communities but it's gonna hurt their children who overwhelmingly receive medicare more than any other type of state. It's also going to hurt hospitals that rely on medicare/medicaid people, those hospitals that serve disproportionately low income families (who usually have bare bones medicaid). You would think Tr*mp wouldn't hurt these maga men, women, and children right? Well the evidence says otherwise, he would and is. Like right now he is. Please understand this. His very first day in office he rescinded an executive order that was written and law by Biden that actually strengthened the protections of medicaid. In tr*mp's first term ever he had tried many times to hurt medicare/medicaid funding so don't think that this is a new thing, he's been trying for a long time. Often many red state people are blinded by racism over it being called “obama-care” when that said obama care has been saving them. Red states are willing to lose access to healthcare over the fact that it has been labeled as “obama-care”. $230,000,000,000 dollars is getting ready to be cut from the committee of agriculture, now this doesn't just include farms and such but it is food stamps, SNAP, and wix. Now lemme mythbust real quick, the welfare queen myth. It is found that white people are the largest recipient of food stamps, snap and wix. And it's by A LOT. white people are counted for 60% of the population on SNAP, while all versions of poc are put into one category together that can be broken down even further with black people only taking up 27% of SNAP via the U.S. census.

hello! I am a 23 year old self-employed, disabled, transmasc creative living in the us faced with rent and bills I can't pay due to “unemployment” and refusal of disability payments by state and federal government. i need to raise money and get a job asap because I don't have enough to pay to survive.
rest of description and health update below the cut ↓
I need to raise/ make $250 USD before the end of January, and I'm hoping at least half of that can come from donations, as with recent developments, I'm in a near complete shutdown. it's hard to do anything because my brain is making my body go into survival mode, and I'm constantly bombarded with body pain and headaches and nausea. I'm scared for my friends. family, and myself, and want to give up
I make art and write poetry full time, but marketing with no way to pay for advertising online doesn't get me very far, so please share this if you can. I have some examples of my work available and more if you shoot me a message, but my creative skills are mainly in freewritten poetry, acrylic painting, mix media collage/ collage poetry, anthro character design and artwork, graphic design/ logo work, and minimal web design (not the coding side, but like wix and such). I'm also experienced in tech writing, blog/ article writing, customer service, sales, and more.
I am offering lowered rates on all custom work for a limited time, with traditional media pay rates dropping from $70/hr to $45/hr and digital media from sliding scale $30-50/hr to a flat $25/hr. I'll run discounts on any finished pieces that spark interest. I don't have an hourly rate for poetry, I'd do something like $5/15 lines or send a document with 5 premade poems for $5
if you have any leads for remote work, or you yourself could use some load lightened that you could pay me to do, please reach out. my state's minimum wage is $15/hr, but depending on the work, I'd be hoping to work closer to $20/hr based on experience and education. I really only need to make $150 a week to survive, so a part time gig or two would help me at least afford food, bills, meds, and doctors
thank you for sharing and supporting me at this time. donation links available on request, message here or DM floraternum on discord for more information

physical & mental health cw!!↓
as far as my health goes, I have a bug right now, my tummy is uncooperative, my head hurts all the time, my back and neck and hands hurt all the time. this on top of the aches I'm always dealing with, it's rough. and between my anxiety about the anti trans stuff going in in the us and tension and problems on this planet, the OCD, autism, ADHD, bipolar, etc are all aligning to make the most unbearable and just LOUD depression of my recent memory. brain is just a lot to deal with and I don't know how I'm supposed to support myself through much more than surviving rn.

I'm curious, why have you chosen Neocities to host your comic, as opposed to a mainstream webcomic site such as Webtoon or Tapas?
Well actually, now might be a good time to mention that I will also be posting the comic to Webtoons.
I haven't said anything about this before, and that was because I wasn't sure I wanted to post on either Webtoons or Tapas. The main reason for that being that I'm using the classic page-by-page format, and Webtoons and Tapas are both built for mobile apps and are better suited to the infinite scroll format.
I know you can still post single pages or even a sequence or pages on those comic apps, but the format just doesn't lend itself well to that, and I wanted to go with a more page by page format like indie comic websites do (like gunnerkrig court, daughter of the lilies, etc.)
However, I will be posting the comic to Webtoons just to help with visibility (I'm going with Webtoons just because I'm more familiar with it than Tapas). It's just a little harder to find out about an indie comic if it's only available on some random website. But even still, I want to have my own random little website.
So why go with Neocities then? The short answer is: I hate working with corporations.
In our modern day, big companies call the shots and tell us what we can and can't do. If I post my comics to Webtoons, some executive higher up can just decide that they're "moving in a different direction" and dump me and my comic out on the streets.
I used to work for a company that seemed to have actual people's interests at heart. I was skeptical at first, and then I grew to love working there. But just over the course of a year and a half the company changed so drastically that I was forced to resign. It was all about making more money, shoving out more products, and they simple stopped listening to anyone who complained. Not even any of the managers liked this either, and they had no way to voice their concerns in any way that mattered.
I know this sounds like an angsty back story, but you seriously cannot trust companies for anything. One of the reasons I want to be an independent comic artist is so that I don't have to rely on a company for consistent pay. Companies aren't built for people, they're made to make more and more money in an endless cycle.
Neocities is different. it's almost like a workers union for internet freedom. They feel to me like a group of rebels united against the conglomerates. A rag-tag group of people who still believe that you should be able to do what you want to do, how you want to do it, (within reason of course) without having to ask some company for permission and paying upfront first.
Neocities lets you customize your website to make it look exactly the way you want it to, and they let you do it for free. I tried looking into making a website with Wix (what I determined was one of my better choices for a websites builder) and I was bombarded the whole time with little pop-ups trying to make me use their Ai assistant to do everything for me. What is even the point of making my own website if I have to follow some set template and use an experimental technology to set it up?
But all this to say, I want to have more freedom in how I publish my comic to the world, I've been burned by companies before, so there's no way I'm entrusting them with my labor of love.
TLDR: I chose Neocities because I wanted more freedom, but I will be posting SotF to Webtoons for more visibility.
Thank You for the ask! :D

Hell on Earth January Update!
I have promised updates about Hell on Earth, and I am delivering it with a bitchin' new poster! First, a quick TLDR for those of us who don’t want to scroll through the whole post:
Issue 2's script is awaiting editing. Issues 3 and 6 is currently being beat-sheeted. All of the issues' general plots have been beat-sheeted.
Thumbnailing has begun for Issue 2 and Issue 6. Concept sketches for the covers have begun. Character reference sheets will come out within the next month or two.
Because I don't fully trust myself to get sufficient content completed by the end of the year, I may push the official release days to December 2025. The quarterly release schedule will stand no matter what.
Issue 1 will be pre-released at the Small Press and Alternative Comics Expo in April 2025 — along with The Book of Haborym.
Tumblr media
What is this comic? How did it come about?
Hell on Earth was initially my senior capstone, but I got really attached to it and wanted to make more. Unfortunately, I kept writing the same plot over and over and kept making the same mistakes, so I got really depressed and tried to scrap the whole thing in favor of a new plot. Ove winter break, I made an entirely new plot, cast, script, and thumbnails. I was ready.
Then on January 8th, 2024, I was dragged down a hill by one of the family dogs and I fractured the two bones in your ankle that will not heal on their own. Surgery was required, I was forced to pull out of what would have been my final semester, and I relearned how to walk over the summer. It was a mess, I was a mess, it was horrible.
However, it did give me an opportunity to pay more attention to the capstone. With that time I spent being unable to walk, I started to move back to what I'd originally conceived, now having a fresh start and read all the Walking Dead comics and watched Romero's Living Dead films. And now I've created something that I am not only obsessed with, but am dying to share with the world.
What can we expect from Hell on Earth?
Zombies! Zombies lurking around, stalking us, looming in the background. Because at the end of the day, this is a zombie story. Hell on Earth is going to be a relatively slow burn for the spook side of things, but it will be showing more and more of its face as the story goes on.
I'm planning to do six issues per story arc, and as of now I only want to start with one or two. I have enough material for a second and third run, and if all goes well, I'll get more of my plot ducks in a row. This first run is like an introduction to the world, but it's also a story that can be read on its own.
Where will Hell on Earth be sold?
I'm still figuring that out. I have yet to update my own personal website (I love that Wix wants me to shell out $30 a month to sell things on my own damn site), so I'm open to suggestions and currently searching for a place to sell it. I'm leaning towards selling it on Amazon (boo, hiss) until I have enough money to sell it over my Wix site.
You mentioned pushing the release date back. Why?
I don’t know if I trust myself to finish enough issues by the release date. ADHD is hard to manage on its own, especially when you’re trying to force yourself to get five more issues done over the course of a year and three months. I’m trying hard, but aside from the wonderful pro bono help of my editors, I am making this thing entirely on my own. I’m doing all the writing, penciling, inking, coloring, lettering, and printing, and it's all coming out of my own (jobless) pocket. This is going to take a while. The bottom line is that I want to deliver a quality comic and I want to figure out the workflow that will help me get this done in a timely manner so I’m not turning this into another Book of Haborym.
Why are you still doing the prerelease if you think you'll push this back?
Issue 1 is completely finished. Like, absolutely 110% done. This isn’t a Book of Haborym situation where I’m sorta done with it and still touching it up so I can sell it. It’s done. And since I've already posted about this, I figure it's not worth making people wait more for a thing that's already finished.
I'm lucky enough to have been given a table at the Small Press and Comics Expo here in Columbus with the rest of CCAD's comics seniors. A certain amount of Issue 1 copies will be sold there, along with copies of The Book of Haborym. Yep, that's right. I've finally finished up that goddamn book!
Thank you to everyone who’s supported me in the journey of creating this! I have very high hopes for the way the series could go. And just so y'all aren’t scrolling for nothing, here’s some sketches for future covers!

I've been developing new trauma from exposure to images and videos of terrorism lately, and have been hyperfocusong on BG3 to cope. It's had the effect of bringing back my ability to daydream and soulbond? So now I've got a little paracosm and an Astarion riding on my shoulder to keep my sanity intact.
Unfortunately, it's also brought me back into the struggle with myself I always have when I embody myself as Wix in Faerûn -- racial dysphoria.
My body here is light brown and has curly hair and small brown eyes. The other me is icy blue, with straight white hair, and huge blank eyes. Both are racially persecuted and have trauma around how we look. But I spent so much time and effort and money and put such pain and anxiety into trying to make my body look like Wix's. Bleached and straightened my hair till it was damaged as hell, avoided the sun so I would have as little melanin as possible, thought about contacts that i would hate wearing, and even half-seriously considered giving myself argyria to make my skin blue.
Now I've learned to embrace my tan skin, my curly brown hair, my small brown eyes. But then I find I cannot change Wix to fit that, even as a changeling, because their true form means as much to them as mine does to me. We can never look the same.
There's so much emphasis in fictionfolk communities sometimes about ways to be more like, and to look more like, one's fictotype. I wonder if there is room for other discussions about how that is impossible for some of us, and how to embody a kintype you will never look anything like and that it would actually be harmful to change yourself to look like.
Maybe the similarity, for me, is in the claiming of the true form itself rather than having that true form look the same? Claiming the truth of one's phenotype without hiding it or changing it for the sake of conforming to bigoted standards?
What else is valuable besides just looking the same?

Hey Lauren! I've just finished writing my first novel, I'm also the writer/creator of the audio series Life & Death on the Rim (Star Wars fan audio drama), and I've started my own company Galactic North Productions. What I really want to understand is how other writers/creators who are successful and profitable got there. If there are any insights you can give me I'm all ears, whether that's associations, conventions, marketing, etc etc I just really want to learn. Very determined. Thank you!
hey!!! first off, HUGE congrats on finishing your first novel, that's an incredible feat and you should be unbelievably proud!!!! secondly, I hadn't heard of this podcast before but as a huge fan of both star wars and fan works, I am absolutely putting it on my tbl list right now!!!!
so. this is a great question. and a hard question. and one that I'm probably going to spend way too many words answering, if I know myself at all.
I think this question, in part, depends on what you consider successful and profitable! for me, it's meant being a jack of all trades - a lot of my work has come from being someone who knows how to make a podcast from soup to nuts and from being a person who a lot of people know. you've already done the hard thing: making something. that's your resume, now get the resume out there!
I wish I could give advice about marketing and finding an audience, but honestly it's changed so much since I started out that I hardly know how to find an audience anymore. but the basic approach always stands I think: don't promo, build community. be authentic and enthusiastic, and hang out in online spaces that you're already excited to be in. share your passion with people. clearly you already know how to do that, making a fan podcast!
in terms of getting to know your peers, I always recommend people join the WGA Audio Alliance discord to get to know who else is working in the space and hear about events. I did meet a lot of people at events early on, but unfortunately a lot of those things don't exist anymore (or were one-offs to begin with) or were smaller, invite-only things. if you're in NY, LA, Chicago, or London, there are vibrant AD scenes, so seek those out and go to (or organize!) a meet-up.
knowing your peers is the single most important thing for getting jobs. with the exception of one cold outreach, every job I've ever gotten has been because I met somebody and vibed with them. stay in touch but not too much - don't email your industry contacts all the time, but every 8-18 months, reach out to folks and do a catch up zoom or coffee. but don't network just to network! get to know people whose work you really like. getting to know peers at your same level is just as - if not more - important as networking to those who are further along in success than you.
be incredibly findable. having the facebook page, instagram, etc. is great, but if you're a production company hoping to make money through providing services like producing, directing, writing, etc. (which is primarily how I've made a living - I don't really make money directly from my original podcasts), having a website is a must. if you don't want to pay for squarespace or wix, you can make a website through tumblr and then just buy a url and have it redirect (I wrote about this a bit in my production guide). same deal if you want to be hired as a writer - having a website or some kind of resume is huge. I'm not saying you need to have an instagram detailing your personal life or anything (for me, I get personal about my thoughts on social media, but I never post my family/partner/non-industry friends/etc. some creators have had massive success building mystery (lemony snicket, the team behind midst), but I have no idea how to do that lol
this is already too long, so to summarize: build a community, both in your audience and your colleagues, be very clear and open about the skills you have/services you provide, and, ideally, do a lot of different things that put you in front of a lot of different audiences. try a lot of things and stick with what works.
to speak more on my personal journey, just briefly: 90% of being successful in the art and entertainment industry is luck. I know that people always say that, and it sucks as advice because it's not advice at all, but it is just true. luck and timing. the only way to improve your chances are to make stuff, meet people, and be easily accessible.
I know that's all exceptionally broad advice - if you'd like to share more specifics about your career goals, I'm happy to get more specific too!

Teen And Up Rated Fics (2) Masterlist
Links last checked: June 4th 2025
part one
5 times it wasn’t a hug and the 1 time it was - parkrstark T, 31k
Summary: 5 times it wasn’t a hug and the one time it was.
Or…
The one where Tony has a habit of not-really-but-kinda-sorta hugging Peter and finally gets it right when it matters the most.
All The Leaves Are Brown (And the sky is gray) - AvocadoLove steve/bucky, pepper/tony T, 17k
Summary: The Winter Soldier’s mission is nearly complete. Howard and Maria Stark are dead, leaving him to dispatch their four-year-old child. One quick twist of the neck is all it will take, but the Soldier finds he cannot do it.
So instead of killing Tony Stark, the Winter Soldier takes him away to raise as his own.
A Parent Apparent (ao3) - happyaspie pepper/tony T, 528k
Summary: In which the author indulges herself in some shameless Irondad/Spiderson with fluff, angst and everything in between because she needs more of that in her life.
OR
Just another one of those, oh so overdone, fanfics where Tony and Peter’s relationship grows into more of a father/son relationship after an accident involving Aunt May (who lives)
Changing Fate (ao3) - Wix bucky/tony, loki/tony T, 27k
Summary: Tony dies in Siberia under the hands of Captain America, but fate doesn’t leave it there. He opens his eyes several years earlier amidst the threat of Loki’s invasion and the first assembling of the ‘Avengers’. Tony may not understand why he got this second chance, but he’s going to do better with it - and he’s decided that he’s going to share it. With a Winter Soldier who could really use a different hand than he was dealt.
Never let it be said that fate doesn’t have a sense of humor.
Clint Barton’s Super Secret Snipers’ Club (ao3) - sara_holmes clint/bucky, steve/tony T, 67k
Summary: Clint Barton’s Super Secret Snipers’ Club. (Invitation and pending mental health evaluation required.)
“When Steve brings Bucky back to the tower for the first time, Clint’s first thought is that Tony Stark’s pride and joy is quickly becoming a less of a very tall and expensive ‘fuck you’ in the faces of investors who don’t believe in self-sustaining energy, and more of a superhero rehabilitation center.”
Boyfriends, compromises and learning to like oneself.
Distracted by a Dime (ao3) - happyaspie steve/tony T, 56k
Summary: Peter Parker thinks he has everything figured out. Where he can eat, sleep and make a little bit of money. What he needs to do in order to continue attending Midtown High and being Queen’s friendly neighborhood Spider-man. How to keep his entire situation under wraps and most importantly, who he can trust.
Then, along comes Tony Stark with an offer he can’t refuse. The plan is to remain professional, to not get too close to the Stark-Rogers’ family. Not getting comfortable means not slipping up and saying anything that he can’t take back.
…but for Peter- things rarely go as planned…
Detonation Imminent (ao3) - KairosImprimatur pepper/tony, clint/natasha T, 61k
Summary: Peter and Rocket decide it’s a good idea to snoop around Stark Tower before introducing themselves. Clearly there’s no way this could go awry.
Endgame (ao3) - YunaYamiMouto tony/stephen T, 196k
Summary: The rouge Avengers are pardoned under the influence of King T'Challa and it is up to Tony to 'welcome’ them back. But as he and his new team are at the private airport, an unexpected fight breaks loose and the fate of the whole universe is changed when a wizard places himself as Tony Stark’s protector.
It’s a Secret to Everybody (ao3) - Snapdragon_in_the_Snow pepper/tony T, 97k
Summary: “I have kids,“ Clint said. "I know dad behavior when I see it.” Tony blinked multiple consecutive times, processing the statement. “Excuse me?” “Tony,” Steve said now, “how long have you had a son? And how come we’ve never known about him?” “Yeah,” Clint spoke again, “I thought I was the only one with a secret family. Turns out you’ve had one longer than me!” ——- Peter gets to spend all summer living in Avengers Tower with Tony. When the Rogue Avengers get pardoned and come back to live at the Tower too, they’re confused as to who Peter is. However, once they see how Tony acts around Peter, that confusion goes away, as they know for certain who Peter must be - Tony’s secret son. Tony and Peter decide to make the most of the situation, and play along. They hope they can keep up the act all summer. But they soon learn that they barely have to act at all.
Language (ao3) - SailorChibi steve/tony, clint/phil T, 30k
Summary: This is how Tony fixed the team and the damage he’d done, and in the process learned how to start fixing himself. Well, maybe the latter might take a little help from Steve.
Making The Best Of It (ao3) - dentalfloss clint/phil T, 33k
Summary: “He’s not telling us everything,” Fury reached out and shut the projection off, “I’m not comfortable with this.” Coulson didn’t respond, didn’t need to. “Let Rogers know I want Barton watched; he doesn’t go anywhere alone until we understand exactly what’s going on. I’m not losing him to some egotistical mind-f***ing blade-dancer who has mentor issues and wants to take it out on our asset.”
Phil nodded efficiently. He couldn’t agree more.
maybe we can’t be okay (but maybe we’ll try anyway) (ao3) - impravidus, notapartytrick steve/bucky, pepper/tony T, 68k
Summary: The Avengers thought it would be a simple mission. Kill the giant, sixty foot worm monsters, head home and maybe take an hour long shower to get the worm guts off. But when they come across a hidden town in the depths of the forest, the last thing they’re expecting to find is a secret underground base and a fourteen year old boy sticking to the ceiling.
The team finds themselves becoming a dysfunctional family to the teen while he learns how to find a life out of captivity.
Featuring dolphins, puzzles, and frosting art.
Oh, Hey There, Mister Blue (ao3) - iguessyouregonnamissthepantyraid T, 75k
Summary: There are certain things one learns to expect when dealing with the Mad Titan. Ending up on an unfamiliar ship surrounded by a bunch of aliens is one thing. Loki can handle that.
Ending up on an unfamiliar ship surrounded by a bunch of aliens who are actually on his side is quite another.
Oh, My King for a Kingdom (ao3) - STARSdidathing loki/tony T, 14k
Summary: The blood and betrayal of an Afghanistan cave formed Iron Man. The blood and betrayal of a Siberian bunker formed something else.
peter’s stars (ao3) - IronPengu, parkrstark steve/tony T, 175k
Summary: Steve and Peter lose their apartment and are kicked out on the streets. Steve has to juggle between jobs to earn whatever money he can, take care of his son while resfusing to let him realize how much they’re trouble in, and keep them warm and safe on the city streets in winter.
So, he really doesn’t have time to date the billionaire that flirts with him everyday as he buys his cup of coffee. Even if he did, he can’t let himself fall for the man. Because if he knew that he lived from a backpack and showered in a public bathroom there’s no way he’d still want him…right?
The Puzzle that is Peter Parker (ao3) - Neuropsyche pepper/tony T, 279k
Summary: Peter is reeling from the after-effects of the spider bite and seeks out Tony Stark. If anyone can teach him how to be a superhero, it’s Ironman, right? Tony isn’t impressed at being stalked by an eight year old
Time After Time (ao3) - fancylances tony/stephen T, 47k
Summary: Tony Stark is unstuck in time. Stephen Strange might just be the only person in the universe qualified enough to help.
Unwanted Celebrity (ao3) - Kryptaria, zooeyscigar steve/bucky T, 72k
Summary: Fifteen years ago, a skinny kid from Brooklyn went to an arts summer camp, where he met child movie star Jimmy Barnes. Their unlikely friendship faded as the years passed. But now, a threat to Barnes’ career brings Steve back into his life, in the most unexpected of ways. Or, the one where Bucky is a smooth celebrity, right up until Steve the snarky photographer shows up, and Bucky’s whole world gets blown to pieces.
Winter Undone (ao3) - DCAngst steve/bucky T, 74k
Summary: What if, after the Endgame battle, Dr. Strange used the time stone to save Tony and undo 80 years of Hydra for Bucky? In other words, 1945 Bucky ends up in 2023 and has to come to terms with…a lot.
Z to A (ao3) - memoriaeterna wanda/vision, pepper/tony T, 88k
Summary: The moment of disorientation was nothing compared to the next thing he saw. He was standing in the midst of an airport, looking directly at a girl with the familiar red leather coat. The mutual recognition was instant. Leipzig. Or, Peter and Wanda sent back in time to stop the inevitable. Good news: they are not alone. Bad news: who and from when.

Was gonna reblog the post to ask but now I can't soo I'll just ask here:
I'm genuinely confused how Nintendo licensing some company to open a store in Israel back in 2019 equates to them supporting Israel? Especially if Nintendo themselves don't even consider the store official.
In addition, I believe the BDS have gone on record to state that you should only boycott what they've officially announced boycotts for, as boycotting things willy-nilly won't work in the long-term if there is not a dedicated effort behind it.
you're right that BDS isn't about individual consumer boycotts and the BDS targeted boycotts will Always be most important. however, BDS does not say that people cannot or should not engage in their own consumer boycotts.
"Many people are personally boycotting brands that have stated support for apartheid Israel, and that’s great – but we want to stress that consumer boycotts are most effective when taken as a collective action, and BDS isn’t just about consumer boycotts." -BDS Guide to Strategic Campaigning for Palestinian Rights
the BDS movement has also recognized some of the organic boycotts that have shown up since oct. 7th, such as the mcdonald's and wix boycotts. (source)
in my post i tried to explain the reason that boycotting nintendo was important for me, personally, and might be something other people would want to do based on the information i had found, was that i frankly don't usually purchase most of the products on the BDS list anyway. my post wasn't meant to declare nintendo a strategic target for boycotting and i apologize if that was what anyone took away from it. my point was, for those of us who games are a significant hobby and we tend to spend money on games as opposed to any of the BDS list targets, we might want to be aware of what one of the major game companies is supporting so we can withdraw or limit our spending on their products. i am not trying to call an organized boycott on nintendo, only make information available.
i'm still trying to piece together the timeline on what happened with the tel aviv location and why it was announced as a landmark, official location but no longer seems officially recognized by nintendo. it's possible that nintendo realized the controversy of opening an israeli location and hoped to dodge that controversy by letting a different company manage the location and letting it essentially fall by the wayside. i don't know! i do know that it is using official nintendo branding and they are profiting from that. there are multiple kinds of ways a company can support israel, in this case i mean that they are economically invested/in a mutually beneficial economic relationship. trying to sever economic ties between companies and israel is part of trying to get the company to divest from israel. it basically makes it clear that doing business with an apartheid state is unprofitable and isolates and puts further pressure on israel. (once again, this is the case with Larger scale boycotts. just trying to explain the strategy behind why people might boycott companies who "just" do business in israel without directly contributing to the larger human rights issues.)

Part One: The King of the Rats
Knockturn Alley; October
For years now, Mathis had been dreaming of ways to murder Maeko Burke.
“Wouldn’t do, for recruitin’ to your cause,” Nezza had warned him. Repeatedly. It’d send a statement to all the underlings and urchins who haunted Knockturn Alley, to be sure. The rats who ran crime in this town would all know who their leader was.
But offing a Sacred Twenty-Eight legacy brat would lose Mathis the respect and—more importantly—the business of the wizards with real means, those in power and with pedigree that meant they had deep pockets and a need for others to do their dirty work. Those at the top would always lean on the seedy underbelly that held up the precious world upon which they stood—but they’d never risk scuffing their shoes, sullying their good names, with just any unknown criminal to rise up in the ranks. The people who mattered would only ever trust a name they knew, to get their hands dirty. The King stayed the King.
And Mathis had no intention of being King of the Rats.
Still, as Maeko Burke spent year after year holed up in the known seat of criminal power for the city, turning up her precious little nose at the vermin all around her who were clawing and scraping for a fraction of what she’d been handed on a silver fuckin platter, willfully ignoring the heaps of privilege that could have seen her rise to the position her father had laid out for her with a snap of her fingers and refusing to cede the seat to someone worthy, someone who actually fucking wanted it—Mathis watched, and resented, and stewed.
Every time she stumbled home from the pub with her little friends, late at night, Mathis thought about how easy it would be to walk right up and slit her pretty white throat, to stain the grimy cobblestones with liters and liters of Maeko Burke’s pretty pure blood. He thought about squeezing her neck with his bare hands until it snapped, until he’d wiped that sanctimonious smirk off her face, until her bonny blue eyes bulged out of her daft empty skull. He thought about stringing her up by her fine raven hair, like a noose, and letting her rot away as she dangled at the entrance to the alley—a warning to any other pious pureblooded brats who thought they were better than him.
But Mathis knew Nezza was right; he'd gain nothing but satisfaction from slaughtering Maeko Burke in the street, no matter how simple it would be, how much he longed to do it.
Still, Mathis hadn’t come to Knockturn Alley just to give up and turn tail, nor to blindly accept the status quo and be content as a low-ranking slumlord, quietly taking his scraps. No, Mathis hadn’t done all he’d done to get here, to force the loyalty of those that followed him, to strong-arm his way into lucrative alliances, to slowly edge out Aldon, just to give up now, when he was so close to that slow drip of power that he could nearly taste it—thick and black like tar.
Mathis was willing to play the long game, to wait for that elusive something that would give him the edge he needed.
And then, that something finally came. It was a boy.
***
What wizard-folk didn’t understand about the have-nots who’d been born outside their cushy magical world, was that those without would do just about anything to get that which they didn’t have. Everything had its price—even magic; that was something that wix knew well enough, when they’d empty their pockets for the rats in Knockturn Alley to acquire the fix they desired, or shake hands with agreeable co-conspirators making off-the-books deals in the dark. For wix, there was always a quick fix to be found, if you were able to pay the right price.
But Mathis had truly come from nothing. The hedge witches in Coventry where Mathis had learned all he knew didn’t have an excess of anything—not magic, and certainly not money. When it was time to pay up, the coven dealt in flesh. Some used their bodies as a more carnal sort of collateral. But Mathis, who had never been pretty or desirable in that way, had given up his ear the good old fashioned way—the way that had later earned his old coven the moniker The Cannibals.
Eventually, he’d outgrown the meager criminal earnings he could exploit from hedge witches; they were all thieves and addicts from the jump, the types of have-nots who would never have anything, and thus would never have the means to pay a debt that was worth collecting. So Mathis set his sights on the haves—the big leagues, the high-and-mighty wizards who sought out their illegal dealings in London's infamous Knockturn Alley. Mathis knew he would have to shed his old skin as a hedge witch like a snake; if he wanted to turn a real profit in the magical underworld, he would need to deal only with magical folks who had a good wizard’s family name, who brought with them a wizard’s full coin purse.
But he still had contacts in Coventry. The Cannibals still traded in flesh and in skin—sometimes they’d send body parts, for distribution and sale in a more lucrative market. Sometimes a wizard politician would get word to Mathis—who’d built his reputation in the criminal underworld on being able to procure whatever you want, as strong as you want—that he desired some pretty young thing off the books to boost his morale, and the Cannibals would be efficient in trafficking one of their chattel. Sometimes, if an enterprising discipline emerged amongst their ranks, the hedges from Coventry would send Mathis a hedge witch to work under him, in exchange for regular cuts off of whatever they earned.
It was the latter that happened, when a scrappy little waif of a boy showed up at Mathis’ hideout in Knockturn Alley. He’d been sent from Coventry, he said. And he had a discipline in unweaving wards.
***
After having the kid prove himself in a few small-time B&E jobs, Mathis set him to the much more important and complex task of meticulously unweaving the ancient blood wards that had, for centuries, protected the reigning seat of power for the magical underworld—13B Knockturn Alley—from being seized through mutiny.
It would never have been possible, no matter how powerful the discipline, were it not for one peculiar day in Knockturn Alley, in September, when all her residents had noted an unknown disturbance in magic coming from 13B, the former Borgin and Burkes. The aura around the ancient place had been noticeably glitchy, more and more so ever since that day.
And it was only that minuscule weakness, in a fortress that had stood for hundreds of years, that allowed the kid to begin his painstaking task, like chipping away at a solid stone wall with a dull chisel. Pebble by pebble, bit by bit, thread by thread—for months, the boy would be at it.
And all Mathis had to do was sit patiently and wait, as he had done for years. Until the wards on 13B Knockturn Alley finally fell, and Mathis could walk right through the front door, and drag Maeko Burke by her hair kicking and screaming from her own wee bed.
To be continued...

If you are from my yakuza/other fandoms brainrotting account...
Hi
I think you guys might like this mess of a guy, Danny An absolute sleaze bag. (His toyhouse account is fucked up in the layout. Use pc for better results ahrkjehr) . Info down below.
Quick Info:
Danny is a man of little good qualities. He is short tempered, sleazy, doesn't understand human emotions, lacks overall empathy and sympathy, and is a bit of a narcissist. His short temper can cause him to become irrational and reckless, getting himself into worse situations than he was originally.
And yet at the same time, he does have some redeemable qualities. Once he got into a relationship with his current husband Wix (bf's oc), he showed more of his softer side and learned to be a family man to both his husband and his two adopted cryptid sons.
He is capable of feeling some love and does have the ability to learn from his mistakes if the mistakes end up hurting the very few he cares about. Of course it is hard for him to make such deep connections, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Usually he just ends up finding value in that person in some way.
He is also loyal guy to the end. Mainly to his friends, husband, and kids and will stick up for them if he needs to, depending on the situation. If they are doing something silly or reckless though (yeah he's a hypocrite), he will just tell it how he sees it.
Additional Info:
His love language is not the usual cuddly affectionate "I love you"s. He can and has done that to his husband, sure, but it is not his true signature way that he shows he has an emotional connection to someone. He shows it through financial and physical support, lending money and buying things for those he cares about. He also lends places to stay even without invitation, give food, essentials, and provides protection to those close to him.
What exactly does he do?
Danny works as an organ harvester and makes- illegal medicine on the side. The bodies he gets for his work are not ones he gets himself. He is just a pawn in a larger scheme and gets a cut of the money… and sometimes the people are still alive.
The group that he works with has given him a chance to get through college and granted him basic immunity from other certain shady people (not all of course) and overall law enforcement. But not the news if word gets out. Word getting out of his connections can mean life or death though. For him and anyone that tries to blow cover.
On the outside he appears to work in an old antique shop, but to be honest he is rarely seen behind the counter. The shop belonged to his adoptive father. This building still has all he needs to complete his real job as well as his living space upstairs, so he never felt the need to move. (Also he hates changing things he is so used to. Including escaping the criminal life he has slide into.)

Stats
5.4 million people living in Palestine in 2023.
The median age in Palestine is 19.6.
47.3% of Palestine is under 18.
Israel has killed over 12k people in Gaza (the second largest city in Palestine) since October 7.
Regardless of what side you think is "right", there is no justification for the deaths of so many people when Israel has received at least 3 billion dollars in 2023 and is requesting an additional 14k, all from America. The Israeli forces could easily afford to train and equip a special forces team to go in and handle only Hamas with minimal casualties if that was what they were after.

What should I have in my assassin's bureau?
Most Bureau's function as news post and informational military base, which means you can live there. It can be a place to store weapons, food, drink and waters/wines (not to dine on but medicines and also flame lighting materials), as well as other medicines, bandages and cots for sleeping and or blanket rolls for sleeping.
A List of Needs:
Thread, twine, string, flax, needles
Cloth, bandages, sheets, linens
Glues, pitch, nap (a type of black pitch), saps, salves, ointments
Foods, nonperishables (rare), bread, cheese, wines/liamints (fruit juices)
Candles, wax, tonement (for sealing wax, clays, pottery), pottery bake (cornstarch, baking soda (medly), flour, meal
Bed rolls / blankets / mats / cots
Wood, firepots, pits, snap (kindling), fax (fat for burning/oil), and Fax is a templar word.
Fishing net / fishing cap. You could take an old shirt, and cutting small holes in it would filter water, you could "dress" the shirt onto two poles and it would be propped up in a place to let water filter through it. Or people would take a longer sleeve shirt after dressing the two poles and tie the arms together to make a net, and fish would be gathered from inside the shirt they swam into.
Brooms / rock salt for floor (kept bugs and pests at a mini), and sometimes people knew how to weave a floor mat from twine or grasses. (Not pretty things)
Cooking oil from foods gathered for lamp oil and candle making. Lasted anywhere between 35 mins to 3 hours depending how it was made. People would take red wine, and mix it with the oils, and it would last over a period of hours if the flax wix or wood wick was long enough. Only noble people had white wines.
Most bureaus are brave enough to post the assassin logo somewhere on the or about the property. In some times past, it was Illegal to have the insignia on the wall, door or roof or sign, in front or around the side of the buildiing or in the back. Bureaus then resorted to the use of the Jerusalem Cross in order to signify they were good people of the mark. Many also took to create a cross on their robe or uniform. Usually a red, or white emblem with yellow or black trim and some white.
Pope Clement III basically told bureau's they could not post signage of any logo or establishment, or they would be fined money, he feared "briganides" moving against him. This lasted until the middle of the 1200's, and in the north did new bureau's start to post signage out-front and also on their roof.
It is important to note that early bureaus were modeled after Monasteries. The idea of a home, peace, prayer and help in the monastery was greatly admired by early Assassins. If you study this article, you will see that this is true:
Rule of Saint Benedict - Wikipedia
It is also clear up from Pope Clement III's death the Catholic Church instigated most of the wars of the lands until and past Pope Gregory's IX rule.
