Elevating Your Game: The Science Behind Sports Nutrition

In the realm of athletics, athletes are constantly seeking ways to improve their performance and gain a competitive edge. While rigorous training and skill development are essential, one often underestimated factor in achieving peak performance is sports nutrition. Behind every successful athlete is a carefully crafted nutritional plan that fuels their body and supports their athletic endeavors.
Understanding the Science of Sports Nutrition:
Optimal Nutrient Intake: At the core of sports nutrition lies the concept of optimal nutrient intake. This entails consuming the right balance of macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, and fats) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) to support athletic performance and recovery. The science of sports nutrition delves into the specific metabolic needs of athletes and how nutrient timing and composition can influence energy levels, muscle repair, and overall performance.
Metabolic Processes: The science behind Sports Nutrition also encompasses an understanding of the body's metabolic processes during exercise. For instance, carbohydrates serve as the primary fuel source for high-intensity activities, while proteins play a crucial role in muscle repair and synthesis. By optimizing nutrient intake before, during, and after exercise, athletes can enhance their metabolic efficiency and sustain peak performance.
Applying Scientific Principles to Performance Enhancement:
Nutrient Timing Strategies: One of the key principles of sports nutrition science is nutrient timing, which involves strategically consuming nutrients at specific times to maximize performance and recovery. This may include consuming carbohydrates before exercise to fuel workouts, protein-rich meals or snacks post-exercise to support muscle repair, and adequate hydration throughout the day to maintain optimal performance.
Individualized Nutrition Plans: Another aspect of the science behind sports nutrition is the importance of individualized nutrition plans. Every athlete has unique physiological characteristics, training regimens, and performance goals that necessitate personalized dietary strategies. By working with qualified sports nutrition professionals, athletes can tailor their nutritional plans to meet their specific needs and optimize performance outcomes.

saw a new doctor who like. actually took it a little more seriously and asked questions when i said that i think i'm autistic (and i answered them terribly bc i wasn't prepared and am Terrible at expressing myself the way i need to). but it still boiled down to "even if you are autistic, even if you could pull up a binder of evidence for it, i'm not qualified to diagnose you" and just continuing on with my medication, counselling, and coping tools that i'm trying to develop and use.
still better than the "well you're sitting here communicating with me so even if you are autistic it's clearly not impacting you severely" but still. kinda frustrating in a "i hate the fucking medical system" sort of way lmao,,,
#i keep hoping someone will be able to like. refer me to someone who CAN diagnose me#but what's already the smallest sliver of hope that there's someone out there who ISN'T a private practice that will charge me $5000#is getting stomped on every time i talk to a new doctor about it 🙃#he was good tho he actually asked like. some good & important questions for once.#anyway. cursing the medical field for the way they've gone about autism research for the billionth fucking time#autistic kids grow up to be autistic adults!!!!! whether they get diagnosed young or not!!!!! can we PLEASE start recognising this????#ok now i have to drive thru the mountains for another hour to get to my pharmacy for my script refills#then another 45 mins home after probs an hour wait for the meds to be filled.#might actually be more wiped than i initially expected by the time i get home so idk man idfk#i'd like to write but we'll see where my spoons are at#hope everyone's having a good wednesday i love u all stay hydrated#💜💜💜#━━ ˟ ⊰ ✰ ooc ⋮ don’t @ me.

The Sip-Chug Combo You Never Knew You Needed

This is your reminder to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate
The average person doing no strenuous physical activity and not experiencing extreme heat should drink 1/2-1 fluid ounce of water PER POUND OF THEIR BODY WEIGHT. That means 100 lbs=50-100 oz of water per day. 200 lbs=100-200 oz of water per day.
If it is hot out or if you are doing more physical activity than getting out of bed or eating or things like that, you need to be drinking even more.
Drink your water throughout the day so it can all be absorbed into your system. Your urine should be almost clear and you should need to urinate at least a couple times a day.
Your body WILL let you know the consequences of dehydration and they are not fun.
Hydrate or diedrate
Love you all <3
#self care#hydration#water#health#I am currently suffering the effects of mild dehydration#and I am practically confined to my bed because of it#To be fair my current circumstances are unusual#but still#Not at all fun

Coffee will also not dehydrate you!!
Hydration is more important than drinking "the correct liquid"
If you're like me and can't drink a lot of water, it's FINE AND GOOD to drink anything else (non-alcoholic) as long as you drink enough!
I had a friend who was diabetic and had kidney disease. She had to drink 4 liters every day to prevent failure. She could never get there with water. The only thing she could drink enough of was soda. She talked to her doctors and even with the diabetes, hydration came first! Her diabetes meds could be upped if needed, the most important thing was enough liquid!
And here's the thing: soda and juice et al aren't evil. They're just as liquid. Sugar is also not evil
Please stay hydrated, especially now that summer ramps up!
PSA: i keep seeing posts about staying cool in extreme heat that include advice like "gatorade is bad actually!" and "don't drink fruit juice it'll just dehydrate you!" and neither of these are true!
regarding fruit juice: there's apparently a misconception that Any Sugar At All will dehydrate you, and that's simply not true. yes, sugar will make you pee more when consumed in large amounts, but 1) the natural sugar in fruits won't do this to you 2) great news! a lot of fruit juices exist without any added sugar in them! 3) honestly even having a glass of the fruit juice with added sugar won't completely dehydrate you as long as you're also drinking water throughout the day. if its hot you deserve a cold treat of a drink!!! can't go wrong with fruit juice!!!
regarding gatorade: maybe this isn't an every day drink, but guess what: if it's 110F/40C or hotter outside, and you don't have AC, or you're moving around a lot outside of the AC, and you're sweating buckets: that's when you drink a gatorade.
gatorade exists to replenish all the electrolytes (salt) and glucose (sugar) that you sweat out. YES it is meant for athletes to drink during intensive work outs and not necessarily for people who aren't doing that kind of exercise. BUT GUESS WHAT! when you're sweating buckets because you had to walk to the bus in extreme heat, that's intensive exercise. please feel free to drink a gatorade after that! that's its intended use case!!!!
no: neither of these drinks should be a total replacement for water. but drinking a lot of water and then treating yourself to a fruit juice with lunch is a good idea!!! drinking a gatorade becuase you just had to walk for 20 minutes in the heat is a good idea!!!
Please Stop Spreading Misinformation About Drinks!!! It's fine if you drink things that aren't water!!!! Yes you should probably always be drinking water but drinking something else As Well isn't going to hurt you!!!! okay!!!! its fine!!!!!!
honestly so long as you are consistently getting Any (non-alcoholic) fluids in you, you're doing great!!!!!! okay!!!! i love you stay safe <3
#Hydration#PSA#Also I'm a bit eh#Sugar is sugar#The sugar in fruits is practically the same as the one in soda
