haikyuu boys: how you met <3

this includes hinata, kageyama, sawamura, sugawara, kuroo, tsukishima, and kenma. let me know if you want any more added and i'll do a part two! this is also going up on my wattpad under the same username ^^

shoyo hinata

you were a distance runner on the karasuno track team. when the gym had a leak, coach ukai told the volleyball club to take a beach trip and play beach volleyball instead as a fun activity. when the team reached the beach, they realized the track team was having a bit of a beach hangout to celebrate their successful season. at first you weren't with the group, out jogging on the shoreline. after a few minutes you came back, having ran to the pier and turned around.

while tobio spiked a ball to him, shoyo had been put off by the sand in his shoes and missed the ball. chasing after it, he grabbed it... only to realize the ball had rolled right to your feet.

"oh, sorry!" he apologized for getting in your personal space. you assured him it was fine and told him that he was good at volleyball. "why don't you watch me for a bit?" and so you did, tanning on your beach towel and listening to spotify while you watched a ginger play volleyball.

tobio kageyama

tobio wasn't the most studious guy. he struggled in school, particularly in english. it wasn't his native language, so why was he required to learn it? "kageyama. if you don't stop failing your exams, you're not going to pass the first year." his counsellor warned. tobio's eyes widened. not passing first year would mean he would be cut from the volleyball team. he opened his mouth to say something before his counsellor interrupted him.

"i know volleyball is important to you, so i've gotten you a tutor so she can help you on your days off. she's the top in your year." damn, he had to have a tutor and it's a girl? how much worse could this get?

he soon found out that it could get much worse.

"yeah, but why are they spelled the same if they mean different things?" he groaned, staring up at you. you sighed. he was quite stubborn, and refused to listen to a word you say.

"look," you started, "my goal is to get you to pass english. try and work with me here."

he glared at you. this would be the start of quite the entertaining relationship.

daichi sawamura

it started one day when you ran into the gym to talk to kiyoko, the manager. you were rosy-cheeked, with pom-poms shoved under one arm and a glittery bow in your hair. you had a cheer uniform on, identifiable by the short skirt and tight top.

daichi didn't pay much attention to you at first, but when he glanced over to see what the giggling was about, he dropped the volleyball.

"who's that?" he asked koshi sugawara, his co-captain.

koshi smiled. "that's (y/n). she's the captain of the cheer team. kiyoko-san is her best friend." he said politely.

"oh." was all daichi had to say. he was starstruck by the cheerful look on your face and the way you laughed. he hated to admit it, but he was disappointed when you dashed back out of the gym.

koshi sugawara

koshi and you had been friends ever since he moved next to you in kindergarten. you had a treehouse in your backyard, and once you became friends you had your parents attach a second ladder that dropped down into koshi's backyard so he could climb up.

"(y/n), i brought snacks from my kitchen!" koshi would exclaim every time you guys hung out after school. he loved the way your face would brighten up when he brought snacks or a game to play.

"let's play knights and princesses, (y/n)." he suggests one day.

"who's gonna be the dragon?" you questioned, seeing as that was how that game worked.

"uhh... i could get my little brother to be the dragon." koshi replied, looking at the knight helmet he had brought up from his room.

"okay!" you agreed, and put on a plastic tiara.

from then on, you were his princess.

tetsuro kuroo

stuck-up on the court and friendly on the streets, tetsuro wasn't the type to even go looking for a girl. he'd rather let them chase after him, which they had all been doing.

except for you, of course. you didn't even spare him so much as a glance. he stared into the back of your head in class, asked your friends about you, with no response.

it was getting annoying how you wouldn't pay attention to him, and frustrating how much he wanted it. it was starting to affect his schoolwork, even.

his eye twitched as you laughed and talked with your friends, careless about the volleyball captain's feelings.

"hey, (y/n)." tetsuro called out, giving up and just asking for attention. "did you do the notes?" he asked after, coming up with a reason to talk to you.

"oh, yeah." you said calmly.

"can i copy them?" he asked. he had already done his own notes, but...

"sure." you handed him your notebook. "bring it back to me tomorrow, k?" then you skipped off with your friends, ignoring when they teased you about him wanting your attention.

he opened the notebook and stared at the handwriting on the page. it was neat and bubbly, with doodles on the edges and all through the paper. dang it, even your notes were cute.

kei tsukishima

it was absolutely stupid how the second you walked through the door all eyes were on you. it was dumb how every guy thought about how cute you were all the damn time. it was definitely ridiculous how rosy your cheeks were and how you always seemed to trip over stuff. how short you were. how you always skipped through the halls. how you always gave that closed-eye smile when you were happy. it was all stupid.

kei hated that he wanted to talk to you so badly. he never thought he'd ever be interested in a girl, let alone one as popular and extroverted as you.

"do you have a pencil i can borrow?" his thoughts were interrupted by a soft voice. (y/n).

"uh, yeah." he handed her a pencil, slightly flustered that you had asked him of all people for a pencil.

"it's just a pencil. don't freak out." kei muttered to himself, trying to calm his racing heart. this was so dumb.

after class, you walked up to return the pencil to him. "thanks for letting me borrow it. hey, your name is tsukishima-kun, right?" you said with a warm smile.

in reality, he thought you were annoying. always talking, always laughing and smiling. what a bother.

Kenma is an obsessive yandere and he's also self aware

Even though this boi is OBSESSED with you, poor bby's really nervous about approaching you and blowing his first impression with you. So, he'll watch and admire you from far. And THAT means, he's basically like your secret admirer 

Though he might not seem like it, Kenma is a VERY perceptive person. He knows and understands what exactly a person is going through and their feelings. He cares for his friends a lot and YES, that ALSO includes a certain raven haired rooster ;) But these feelings are a bit.... different when it comes to you. He's never experienced love before and he has trouble understand these new feelings. He just can't understand HOW in the HECK you can make his heart flutter with your smile and his tummy become a zoo when you laugh. Sure, he's played games on love and all that before but he didn't bother going in depth about it but after he saw you, he made it like his mission to learn and know EACH and EVERY single thing about it

His confusion towards his feelings will most likely be manifested in dark, sinister and twisted feelings of love and obsession towards you. He's content with just watching you from far and if you speak to him, he'll be a stuttering mess. Poor bby

Doesn't like it when you hang around other people, ESPECIALLY Oikawa. He really hates how close you are with him. And he really wishes he could do something to get rid of those annoying little gnats you call 'friends'. Can't you see? They'll desert you one day and they'll NEVER love you like how Kenma does

If you're an author on any of these sites, he'll find a way to login with your username and password after he reads them off from your secret diary, and he'll LOVE every word you've written. As much as he creepily stalks the HELL out of you, he will respect your privacy and your personal space. He isn't a pervert to watch you take your showers and he drinks and DROWNS in his respect women juice like Kuroo

favourite movie/show: godzilla. nuff said. he's kind of a jojo's bizarre adventure fan. ok he's actually a huge jojo's fan he just likes to LIE and say he's just a "casual" enjoyer.

favourite subject/grades: literature/academia/history. he's really interested in reading but he can't stand writing essays. his grades are good, everyone thinks he's naturally smart but he did pretty awfully in elementary school until he got his act together lol.

Things progress quite quickly after your meeting. It seems that time is intent on passing, relentless in its pursuit of your union. Both kingdoms agree that the engagement period will be spent in Prince Kuroo’s castle, with an entourage and dedicated chaperone from your own kingdom following of course. During the short week Prince Kuroo had spent on in your castle, you dutifully escorted him around the castle, showing him the library and having tea together in the gardens. No time is spared to spend with Sir Matsukawa, Sir Hanamaki, and Toru in the forests behind the castle. They offer your concerned, questioning glances when you pass them in the halls, but you walk by with no acknowledgement, continuing your chat with the foreign prince. 

And Prince Kuroo is kind and funny. You think with time, you could even be friends. But there can be no furthering of the relationship beyond that, not when your heart is already set on your first and last love. Prince Kuroo is also shrewd and intelligent. Your sighs, bleak looks, and often daydreaming goes noticed and he has bluntly diagnosed your afflictions as love sickness. He has told you as much. You had neither agree nor disagreed but it mattered not because you both knew. 

The week had passed and Hajime had not shown himself once. You are too tired for disappointment anymore as you watch your trunks get packed away onto the carriage. In a great show of understanding, your father allows the knights and Toru to offer you an embrace for goodbye. They whisper their well wishes and your brother kindly brushes away the tears gathered in your eyes. 

“Hopefully, this isn’t the last time I see you before you’re married, little sis.” 

You only shake your head sadly. 

Waving a final watery goodbye to your only friends, you take the proffered hand to mount your carriage only to find it belonging to the one man you have been longing to see. You have no words for him as he guides you up the final steps. His armor-clad fingers are on the door handle when he finally addresses you. 

“Your Highness, I will be accompanying you on your journey as your guard.”

The trip to Nekoma is long and tense. You had been secretly glad that the journey to Nekoma would provide you time away from Hajime, giving you a chance to forget. Irrational anger floods your veins as you see his earnest face from inside the carriage, focused on riding right alongside your vehicle to ensure that he is the closest to you should danger befall the congregation. Even when leaving for another nation, you cannot escape the reminder that he is your guard and your guard only. 

However, your anger cannot hold out against the exhaustion that seeps into your bones from the measly one week you had to plan your travel, the same prolonged week that dragged for what felt like days when thinking about your beloved knight. 

Your arrival at the Nekoma castle is marked by a hand gently shaking at your shoulder. Hajime’s face fills your vision when you come to, only for him to immediately move away when he sees your eyes blink open. You take his offered hand to dismount and he leads you to where Prince Kuroo is offering his elbow. He is quick to retract his hand and step back three full steps, torso bending to a full bow in proper respect. 

Prince Kuroo takes your now vacated hand into his crooked arm and offers a reassuring smile. Inside the palace, he gives you a quick tour of the main chambers including the drawing room, dining room, kitchen, library, and your bedroom. He quickly offers to send maids up to help you prepare for bed upon noticing your poorly-hid yawn and promises that a full tour will be waiting for you tomorrow.

Surprisingly, you adapt quickly to your time at the Nekoma residence. Prince Kuroo has given you free reign to wander into any crevice of the castle; nothing is off-limits. The freedom within the palace is foreign but oddly disquieting as someone who has been conditioned to maintain the correct facade within the boundaries of a royal residence. 

His personal knights are the most comforting, you’ve found. The young knights, Sir Kozume and Sir Haiba are silly and scatterbrained, but easy to converse with. The experienced Sir Kai is soothing and gentle, often showing you around the gardens and beautiful bonsai he is currently caring for. You enjoy watching Sir Yaku and Prince Kuroo bicker, a painfully sweet reminder of the relationship between your Seijoh knights and brother. Contrary to your bleak outlook when you had first arrived, the members of the castle treat you like family. 

However, no matter how kind everyone is, it is no easy task to forget about your first love and heartbreak, especially when he hangs around you like a storming rain cloud. You expect Hajime to be pleased that the castle treats you kindly, but you often hear him muttering his complaints, ranging from how they should be treating you with respect to propriety and decorum expected of knights. 

You ignore his musings in favor of spending time with Prince Kuroo, which you reason has nothing to do with avoiding spending alone time with Hajime and everything to do with your duty of bettering your relationship with the Prince. 

It’s the afternoon of your second week at Prince Kuroo’s castle when he, uncharacteristically serious, broaches the topic of marriage. Sir Kozume stands a distance away behind the prince’s chair while Hajime stands equidistant away behind you. 

“Princess,” he begins. “There is no easy way of saying this, but I want to be sure I am nothing but honest with you regarding our union.”

You listen thoughtfully. 

“As you know, our marriage is based upon mutual respect and purposed for political gain for both of our nations. However, I believe you and I are both aware that we are not marrying for love. While the time we have spent together has been thoroughly enjoyable, I think we are both of the same opinion that we are meant to be friends.” 

This catches you by no surprise. Prince Kuroo is enjoyable company and while handsome, your heart belongs to someone else, something he has known since the first time he met you. 

“So, what does that mean for the marriage?” you prompt. 

“I propose we carry on to get married.” 

You hear clanging of armor behind you. Prince Kuroo’s eyes dart quickly behind you, but he carries on. 

“However, this will be nothing but a political union. You are free to have discreet lovers and hobbies while I will do the same. We can be friends who are married in name,” he finishes. 

You ponder this for a bit, but have no strong opinions. You have already resigned to give up on your chance to be Hajime’s partner, and having him as a lover will never be in the cards. All that’s left to get as close to happiness as you can is to marry a respectable man your parents approve of and live out your days in peace. Your time in this castle has shown that it’s attainable. Further, hearing Prince Kuroo address the topic so frankly is a symbol of his respect for you as a Princess and representative of your kingdom. And while your father has all but left you no options, this perhaps is the best scenario for you to live out the rest of your life as your father wishes but equally as you wish. 

With that, you are about to nod and agree with his proposal, when you feel a stiff, cold hand on your shoulder. 

You have not heard Hajime address you directly in so long that his raspy voice startles you. 

“I apologize for my interruption,” he starts. He sounds angry. “But, may I consult with the Princess before we agree to your proposal?” 

“We?” you echo. 

“Yes, your Highness,” his eyes bore into yours. “We need to discuss this matter.” 

“Ha-” you start. No, you should no longer address him by his given name, especially not in front of your betrothed. “Sir-” No, that does not feel right either. 

“There is no need to discuss any further,” you say instead. “My decision has been made.” 

“Your Highness-” he begins to raise his voice. 

You would be surprised by his lack of decorum if you were not exhausted. Completely spent and wrung out from heartbreak. The time spent with the lively knights of Nekoma have only just revived your spirit. Even if you have vowed to never fall in love with another again, that does not mean you do not want a chance to be free from the anguish of seeing your lost love’s face everyday. Prince Kuroo’s offer also comes with respite from seeing Hajime everyday. Your mind is made up and the two weeks of silence from Hajime has only made your heart firmer. 

“There is nothing to discuss,” you repeat, louder. “I accept your proposal.” 

“Princess!” Hajime protests. 

Prince Kuroo looks curiously at your knight. In your time spent with the prince, you have come to understand his instigative nature. You eye him suspiciously, hoping his does not pick a fight with Hajime just because of his tendency to provoke.

Hajime bows stiffly. “Respectfully, your Excellency, I cannot and will not leave the side of my princess without King Oikawa or Prince Toru’s permission.” 

Prince Kuroo arches an eyebrow. “As the future husband of Princess Oikawa, I am authorizing your discharge and ordering you to return to your kingdom.” 

Standing firm, Hajime meets his eyes to contradict but you grab hold of his arm to stop him. 

Addressing Prince Kuroo, you say, “I will speak to him.” 

Your fiancé thankfully steps down and you drag Hajime to your chambers. 

Upon shutting the door, Hajime speaks first. “I will not be leaving your side, Princess. Further, if I may speak frankly-” 

“You may not. I have no desire to hear your opinions about my future husband-” 

“Princess,” he raises his voice. “He does not respect you nor this marriage! He plans on gallivanting off with other women whilst you are wed. This union will not bring you happiness!” 

“As opposed to what?” you ask slowly. “I have told you where my happiness lies and you have denied me. I am only doing what is expected of me, like you have reminded me. This is my duty as Princess.” 

“Princess, I expected the Prince to be a respectable man who would treat you well. He has not proven himself as such!” 

“Enough!” you bellow. “You have made your intentions to be my guard and my guard only very clear. I have made my decision and as your liege, you will respect that.” 

“Princess!”

“You will return to Toru’s side while I remain. This is an order.”

ok so some of the history lesson portion of this may be a little off, it's been a hot minute since i've done much research into this lol. but final haikyuu quest first appeared as a spread in one of the bonus pages in the manga! throughout the manga's run were occasionally drawings of the characters in little fake movie posters, one of them being an action/fantasy movie called final haikyuu quest:

this first poster and the original character designers are drawn by furudate! from there, it went on to become a mini bonus game in the haikyuu 3DS game, which is kind of crazy if you think about it too hard.

there's a playthrough uploaded on youtube here, but it's obv in japanese and i don't think there's been a translation of the game. there's a translation of part of it here on tumblr, but i don't think it's complete. poster from the 3DS game:

from there, it went on to be a CD drama (videos 8-10 on this youtube playlist, with subs), which is super neat. it's also one of the haikyuu light novels, but i have yet to find a full english translation of that.

i haven't read the novel or watched the videos with the CD drama audio myself, so i'm not sure how much it differs from the 3DS game. i assume they're pretty similar though.

so the premise at its most simple is that hinata and his party of adventurers are off to defeat the demon king oikawa and his henchmen! those are the basics.

the "canon" characters in hinata's party are hinata, kenma, aone, iwaizumi, and kageyama. on the opposing side we've got oikawa (the demon king), kuroo, and kiyoko. kiyoko has servants in the form of tanaka and nishionoya (they don't care for oikawa, they're just there for kiyoko). there's also michimiya, who is in the "fair princess kidnapped by oikawa" role that hinata & co. are trying to save. the full character profiles can be found here (everyone in game) and here (heroes only)!

now this whole premise is like. a little silly. the whole deal is a little silly. this is a volleyball manga.

with THAT being said, though, sometimes the most fun to be had is when you take the silly thing and make it devastating. and it's so easy to do that with FHQ. so let's talk abt iwaoi now <3

so in the story, oikawa is the demon king. because the premise is so simplistic and boiled down to good v. bad due to, like, this not being a real piece of media, oikawa is objectively on the "bad side." iwaizumi, on the other hand, is a knight, presumably human, and "oikawa's (former) friend."

iwaizumi being oikawa's former friend is literally his speciality and i think about that all the time btw. for context, kageyama's specialty is "prodigy" and hinata's is "strongest decoy." and fucking iwaizumi is out here like yea hey guys i used to be on the bad side but im mad at oikawa so now i'm with y'all. also my specialty in this fantasy universe is that i used to be oikawa's friend :)

like. what the hell. as you may imagine, the iwaoi angst potential here is ENORMOUS. iwaizumi who has betrayed oikawa and joined the heroes' side to take him down, iwaizumi whose greatest strength comes in knowing oikawa in and out, because the villains you love are both the hardest and the easiest to destroy. iwaizumi who loves oikawa, and who cannot save him.

(**side note, there's a lot of kuroken angst potential involved in this au as well, but let's focus on iwaoi for this post and save kuroken for another day)

so, as i said, the game's interpretation of all this is pretty simplistic and pretty silly. but personally i love thinking too hard and finding depth in things that are so not that deep. and it seems like most fhq fans also employ this as a favorite hobby because holy shit the angst people put in this au is INSANE.

the way i've interpreted it myself has been that iwaoi were besties/lovers/unclear situationship until oikawa kind of "fell into the dark side," because this is an au of every fantasy trope possible, and his reign over aoba became corrupted and "evil." iwaizumi betrays him to join hinata and take him down--save the world, at the cost of the demon he loved so much. but that demon, who oikawa was, is gone already, isn't he?

one of my favorite comics about them is here by @/ichigomaniac, where oikawa falls to the dark side and iwaizumi kills him to save the kingdom he loves. another FAVORITE similar one is here by @/hawberries! the premise of a lot of fics/art in this au run along these lines <3333

another super fun interpretation is a 5 part comic by @/duskisnigh, where oikawa and iwaizumi are running a kind of underground rebellion/safehouse in a world demons are oppressed by the human race. but as oikawa sees more and more evil on the behalf of humanity, he gets more and more unhinged until iwaizumi feels that he no longer knows him--and runs away with kageyama, with the intention of taking oikawa down.

personally i think the BEST aus are where iwaizumi--so loyal, so in love--is forced to leave because he can't stand to watch oikawa fall to more darkness, while oikawa himself is so devoted to iwaizumi that it's his love for iwaizumi that is corrupting him.....

in the fic i wrote, it's a story about forbidden love and how oikawa just wants to be allowed to love iwaizumi and he'll fight a war in order to do it. but iwaizumi can't watch oikawa fight this war anymore, because he's getting more and more dark as the war rages on. so he leaves, and was any of this ever worth it?

When sleep does not come, and it does not come, you resort to doing these few things:

Drinking some hot decaf tea, because Kuroo had once sent you a whole box from his travels abroad for the JVA, and because he’d told you that a warm drink helps wind the body down.

Closing your eyes, and remembering the last time you spoke, which was only a few hours ago, but god does it feel like forever — and you both knew long distance would be hard, but you were also both willing to try. Because what other choice was there than to try?

Calling Kuroo, smiling when he picks up on the second ring, his voice lilted into that teasing smile he knows you love as he says “What is it baby? Can’t sleep again?” And when you tell him yes, he tells you that he wishes he were there with you, wishes he could hold you, wishes he could distract you from the insomnia monster (because what else is it, if not a monster; and what else is he, if not your ever-loyal knight).

Closing your eyes (again), as Kuroo chats to you about his day, the depth and cadence of his voice as deep and clear as a sunrise sea.

Taking a few deep breaths, and telling him that you’re starting to feel sleepy, but that you don’t want him to hang up. “Alright then, I’ll stay on the phone with you for just a bit longer. But… if you start snoring —” “I don’t snore!” “Yeah, sure you don’t.”

It never takes long after that, because your body knows, perhaps better than your mind, that so long as Kuroo is here, it’ll always be safe to fall asleep.

“kuroo?” you duck your head out from the door, trying to hide your barely covered torso from view. he quickly turns from his post, shock covering his features before he put on a stone cold mask — one that you were all too familiar seeing. he did this anytime he showed you a fraction of emotion and it was slowly driving you insane. you had to hold back your pout as you continue on. “my handmaidens are unavailable right now, could you—?”

you trail off as you motion towards the room, suddenly a little nervous at your request. it had been your idea all along to have your girls run off for a few hours so you could make your move. even though it was juvenile and completely inappropriate, you wanted to feel the rush of having an intimate moment with the one who truly holds your hearts affection.

“of course, princess.” he offers a small smile but that’s it as he walks into the room. you press the corset against your body, holding it in place so it doesn’t slip off — to both of your disappointment. he shuts the door and takes three long steps to the other side of the room. you follow suit and turn around, letting him have a go at it. “i’ve never done this before.” he admits.

“it’s okay,” you whisper, your voice just above a breath. the corset was hardly on you and yet you feel like it was starting to suffocate you. “just do what feels right.”

he nods to himself, steeling himself for what he’s about to do. if anyone had found out about this, he’d be thrown into the dungeon for who knows how long. but it was worth it. your tantalizing smell drew him in, the perfume he loved so much filled his senses, causing all his thoughts to spiral. he swallows thickly as he comes to the realization that he’s never been so close to you.

his fingers lightly trail down the back of you corset, a feathery, ghostlike touch that you weren’t even sure was real — or if your mind was just playing tricks on you.

his strong hands grab the ties at the bottom, pausing briefly as he gazed at the back of your head, trying to decipher what thoughts were running through it. his voice escapes him so all he can do is tug at the strings, tightening your corset.

his hand steadies you when you wobble at the force of him tightening it. he had never done this before and might’ve been a little too rough with it, but you didn’t seem to mind, only letting out a small squeak of surprise that will sweetly haunt his mind until the end of his days.

part of him wants to do it again to see what other noises he could pull from you, but logic quickly takes over, shoving that thought far down with the other forbidden ones he holds dearly — only for you.

he pushes the top half of you down just a little, to get a better angle, he tells himself. not because he wants to see like what you would look like sprawled out under him, bent over the bed that he’d never be able to lie in. the one meant for you and your future husband.

he roughly tightens the string at the thought, getting softer with his touch each section before he slowly makes his way back down to the ties hanging off of you, tying them in a small bow. it takes everything in him not to spin you by your waist and pull you in for a kiss that would leave the both of you breathless — one that would change the course of fate itself.

all the air was sucked out of the room, and it wasn’t because of the corset pressing down against your ribcage. he was intoxicating and it took every morsel of self-control to not turn around and start something you’d never wish to finish.

“it’s done.” he whispers, not even daring to trust his own voice. you straighten up and slowly turn.

“how do i look?” you ask, the words barely coming out of your mouth. he looks down at you, something filling his eyes that you can’t allow yourself to decipher. he slowly leans down into your space so his breath fans against your face as he speaks.

“you look absolutely divine, my princess.” he says, the smallest smirk dancing along his lips as his cheeks liven up in a pink hue. “i wouldn’t be surprised if your beauty stole every heart at the ball tonight.”

“even yours?” you ask before you had a chance to think it through. the question catches you both off guard, and you’re scared he’ll take off and leave you standing like a fool. or worse — laugh right in your face.

“you’ve had mine long before you put on this corset.” he smiles, something more sincere that fills your heart with hope. his hand reaches up as if he wants to touch the corset, run his hands along it and follow the curvature of your waist. but he snaps it back down at his side like he had just got badly singed.

your eyes follow his movements and before you can really think it through, you play your next move. your lips have a mind of their own as you lean up closer to him, ready to plant themselves on his in a union that had waited far too long to commence.

his eyes flutter shut right after yours as the space between you grows smaller and smaller. you could almost taste the sweet, smokey scent that radiates off him. the ghost of his lips almost meeting yours before cruel fate gets it’s last laugh.

three knocks on the door pull you further away from each other, your widened eyes mirroring his own as your thoughts catch up to your actions. were you really about to risk it all for him? and why did you feel so okay with that fact? he takes a step back and clears his throat.

he knows what he had to do. he knows he needs to march over to the door and walk away from this. but he can’t move, his feet betray him as his eyes give away his true feelings. lust and something softer pools in the hues of his hazel eyes, darkening the longer he looks at you.

you’re too scared to breathe, too scared to move — to do anything that would burst this bubble. all you could do was stare back at him as the person at the door starts to pound against it.
