I both hated and loved the fact that they shot the sex/intimacy scenes of Criston and Alicent detrimental. Criston is already disillusioned with the rules of morality because he has already been "tainted" once. Once at the point of committing suicide, now he knows there is no absolution or forgiveness for what has done. He has seen how hollow all the ideals of chivalry are through years, transforming from an honourable young knight in shining armour into an empty, nihilistic and cynical man who does not hesitate to soil his white cloak, the only thing he once had, again and again.

Alicent feels dirty and sinful for having sex outside marriage and enjoying the act. This is due both to her religious beliefs and because she was groomed to believe that what a proper lady should do is lie quietly, spread her legs and give birth to a child later. Ever since she became a teenage bride, she has been so isolated from her body, her desires and wishes that she cannot accept the fact that she has sexual needs like everyone else. She even thinks that Gods are punishing her for it.

Criston and Alicent's past sexual experiences are pretty bitter. It symbolises betrayal for one, duty for the other, and being used for both. They both know that sex is a method of control, and their relationship is not based on pure love and lust, but on the desire to keep each other dependent and controlled.

They are both utterly, completely alone in their own ways. They use sex to hurt themselves, to hurt each other, to strengthen the dependency between them, to unite in their shame, and to be able to overthrow all the rules they are powerless to dispose of, even if only for a while. When I think about all this, I can understand why these intimate scenes leave a bitter taste.

anyway she goes outside and hears his “so you find my smiling pleasing?” comment and right when kate goes to leave, lady danbury comes around the bend of the bush and is like “well miss sharma, i see you’ve made your own introduction to lord bridgerton”

let the chaos ensue in which kate does all to discourage his pursuit of edwina while lady danbury does all to push him and kate together instead and it’s like a three way battle of wills lol

part of me wants to be like ‘lady danbury forces them to get married because of them being alone at the conservatory ball’ but i think she’d give anthony a few warning shots with her cane in reality and a lecture about propriety with a warning that the next time is marriage
