the defenders saga, wasted friendship potentials, and a potential fix-it
marvel’s defenders saga had so much potential in creating friendships outside of canon-typical ones. although we did get duos like misty & colleen and luke & danny, we completely missed out on pairs like colleen & matt, danny & matt, karen & jess, and so on.
soooo in an effort to a) indulge in my defenders brainrot and b) not let all these fantastic characters go to waste, i am likely going to invest time into a defenders fix-it fic!
everyone cheer ‼️
it’ll function in the same way books like six of crows does in the way that it’d be relatively lengthy and have multiple perspectives and plotlines going on at once. the main difference would be that it would focus more on oneshots with developing plots/relations throughout the chapters, rather than spending the bulk of the story focusing on one major plot.
although i already have a couple pairings / plots in mind, i’m always open to ideas or requests. if anyone does actually request smth and i follow through with the fic, credit will obviously be given. (you can request either by replying here OR doing to that little “ask me anything” thing)
more info to come if this is something that i don’t end up deleting, haha. 🫶

Spider-Man & Ms Marvel: Love & War
By: Reborn Dark Phoenix
OMG THIS WAS THE BEST FANFIC I HAVE EVER READ! Is so WELL WRITTEN! You won’t be able to find it as it is delete. This is more of people who like Spider-Man comics where he is OLDER And People who might like Peter x Carol which depict here make a great couple.
Also we won’t be able to find this fic as it is deleted 😔 will post more soon!
Chapter 1: Minimal
If there was one thing Carol loved about having super speed, it was that she could race from her house to the edge of the atmosphere in less than five seconds to get to space. And if there was one thing Carol loved about space, it was how blissful and awe-striking it was. Despite having seen the beautiful view every day since she took up this habit three years ago, she was always struck with wonder when she saw the Earth from space.
And her most absolute favorite thing about space? Free-falling.
As she allowed herself to plummet through Earth's atmosphere, she felt the heat of the massive kinetic energy consume her body, as it warmed her and her body absorbed it. She loved this feeling, the heat nipping at her body; it was so tingly and pleasuring. She loved being able to do this every day, just flying up and plummeting back into the earth, and almost hitting the Atlantic Ocean before maneuvering herself to race to Manhattan.
This... this was probably the best thing to happen to her because of becoming Ms. Marvel.
Well, actually, Peter was... this was a close second, though.
As she arrived at the shores of Manhattan, people looked nonchalantly up at her form; superheroes had been around the city for almost 20 years now; showing up worldwide less than 10. This was a common occurrence, and flying deeper into the city, people didn't even give her a second glance, if they took a first glance, even. Carol was grateful for that-she was having a good start to the day, and the last thing she needed right now to ruin it were ogling eyes looking at her. It was one of the reasons she preferred flying high above the buildings and at super speed. Although, she did enjoy the lower, slower flights she had when she and Peter travelled through the city... well, enjoy wasn't a good enough word, really.
Suddenly, something jumped onto her back and her eyes were covered by a pair of hands. Now normally, she'd knock whoever this was into the atmosphere, anticipating an attack and then a battle, but this set of hands was all too familiar to her, and she simply smiled, waiting to hear his voice.
"Excuse me, but is this the ferry to Staten Island?"
She laughed as she flew up to a nearby building and landed. The person jumped off, and Carol turned to see her most favorite person in the whole world smiling at her: the Amazing Spider-Man.
"Enjoying your week off?"
"Eh, I guess," the Webhead replied with a slight shrug. "Yeah, I'm off the team for a while, but all these thugs just won't let me take a break, y'know? All the regulars like Doc and Rhino and such are locked up on the Raft at least."
"There's something," Carol said as she sat on the ledge, Peter joining her. "What've you been up to these last few days?"
"Well, the lab's needed me more than usual, Jameson's having me freelance more and more, and I'm visiting Aunt May tonight. Kind of dull, really, now that I hear all that out loud." Carol let out a small giggle at that. "Oh, c'mon-that's what you laugh at and not my jokes and quips?"
"They've been kind of failing in quality as of recent, babe."
"Yeah, name one time they've-actually, don't respond to that, it'll hurt my already fragile ego, and the bad guys depend on my fragile ego to help me mock them while I beat them up every day."
"The team says hi, by the way-Logan, Cap, Jess, Falcon, Luke & Danny especially."
"They miss me?"
"Nope, they've really enjoyed the quiet; they've asked me to tell you to take more vacations."
"Ba, humbug," Peter said as he rolled his eyes. "Remind me to pull a joke from my bag next time I see them."
"I'll be sure to do that," Carol purred as she brought his face to hers and began slowing and lovingly kissing him, letting herself get lost in the passion until...
"Captain America to all on duty Avengers, report to the Mansion for emergency mandatory meeting."
"Noooo....," Peter sighed as they separated at the sound of Cap's voice on Carol's comm.
"Sorry, Spider, duty calls."
"Fine," he pouted before smiling, giving her a warm hug. "Let me know what it's about & tell 'em I said hi."
"I think that in their book, that'd break the happy silence."
"Aren't you a bag of laughs..."
*Avengers Mansion, 10 minutes later*
Carol touched down on the mansion grounds at the same time her best friend Jessica, or Spider-Woman to SHIELD & the rest of the world, did.
"Carol!" Jess cried as she embraced her best friend. "What's new with you, huh? I haven't seen you in forever!"
"... Jess, we saw each other two nights ago; before you, Tasha, Clint and Bobbi were called in by Fury for that mission in the East. Remember?"
"Yeah, but that seems like forever ago," the British Avenger/SHIELD agent replied with a smirk. "Oh speaking of which, can you keep a secret? Guess what I found out. Bobbi is crushing on Clint."
"Wait what? But Clint's-"
"With Natasha, I know, and that really is upsetting for her. She asked my advice about it on the mission. Oh, don't tell anyone, ok?"
"Such a good friend you are, Jess," Carol smirked as the two made their way down the mansion hallways to the conference room. "But my lips are sealed."
"What's the seal for?" Logan's voice came as he joined them from his mansion quarters, walking with them to the meeting. "Actually- don't wanna know; better if I don't so I don' have to get involved in any way." The two women chuckled as the three of them entered the conference room and took their seats at the massive table.
Captain America, Tony Stark (Iron Man), Thor, Bruce Banner (the Hulk), Yellowjacket, Wasp, King T'Challa (Black Panther), Hawkeye, Black Widow, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Falcon, She-Hulk,
Hercules, Tigra, Namor the Sub-mariner, Nova, Mockingbird, Wonder Man, Luke Cage, Dr. Strange, Iron Fist, Noh Varr (Protector), General Ross (the Red Hulk), Daredevil and now Ms. Marvel, Spider Woman & the Wolverine. The full roster of the pantheon of Earth's Mightiest Heroes was now assembled. The only one missing was the Amazing Spider-Man.
"Alright, everyone," Stark began. "Thanks for meeting here on such short notice."
"What's this about, Tony?" T'Challa interjected.
"There's been some... complaints as to how the Avengers are operating." At his words, everyone at the table was shocked.
"Who's been complaining?" Bobbi Morse asked. "I haven't heard anything from SHIELD, and Hill would definitely make sure that Clint, Natasha, Jessica & I would've known about this kind of thing-you know how she isn't so fond of us."
"Bobbi's right," Clint Barton added. "Fury may be in favor of superheroes and the like, but Hill still is against the notion of unsupervised superhumans and vigilantes-we'd have heard something." Carol couldn't help but notice that Bobbi slightly went a bit pink at Clint agreeing with her.
"Are governments and nations complaining about how we handle threats, how we operate?" Simon Williams asked.
"It's not so much as governments or the UN or even SHIELD," Steve Rogers spoke up. "More like... one government."
"This is about the motions going on in Congress," General Ross interjected. "I've been hearing the rumbling about this for some time."
"What rumblings?" Cage asked. "And what's going on in Congress?"
"Remember back when we took the Hood's Syndicate back last year in Los Angeles when Moon Knight asked for our help?" asked Stark. The whole team remembered-that had been a more difficult fight, one of many times the team's full roster had had to be called in. "Well, I'm sure you remembered that one lady who was kind of badly hurt during a tussle between Grey Gargoyle and Wonder Man, and she had come to us to pay for her medical expenses. The way she saw it, it was our fault that she ended up injured and that we should've been more careful. Naturally, I felt kind of bad-" at that the entire team rolled their eyes-"oh come on, I can be human too; anyways, the point is Stark Industries paid all her expenses in full, me taking the responsibility."
Vision cocked his head sideways. "I am not sure I fully understand how that relates, Iron Man."
"Well, it was supposed to be kept on the down low, Vision. But a few months ago, word got out... and suddenly, Stark Industries is bombarded with letters from the courts and lawsuits across the country, not just from regular people, but from businesses. It's starting waves of lawsuits against almost everything we do. The government got wind of this, and since then, Congress has been brewing up a storm on superhuman and vigilante activity across the country-how it's slowly becoming reckless and dangerous. They're even talking about mutant problems again."
Logan, Wanda, Namor & Pietro groaned at once. "I'll always be amazed at how it's always America who seems to have the problems with mutants, yet no other country seems to have it as bad," Wanda exclaimed.
"How bad are these lawsuits?" Banner asked.
"Not too bad; in reality, most of them aren't even accurate or founded in truth-and I'd like to thank Jenny and Matt here for their expertise in law for helping me and the company with that. The major problem is the government's response," Stark continued. "They are motioning for the Avengers to take more responsibility for the actions we take
as a team; and it's not just us they're going after-they've got their eyes on various heroes in the States-Moon Knight in LA, Scarlet Spider in Houston, those New Warriors, the FF, Punisher, Black Cat, other independent heroes....they're associating all of them with the Avengers, being we're the face of heroes on this planet."
"How's their stance on the X-Men, Stark?" Logan asked.
"I'm not exactly sure, but they seem to be moving against the various teams you guys have going-X-Force and those New Mutants-"
"Hey; X-Force rarely does anything in America without Slim's or my approval... well, I can't speak for Deadpool, but you know what I mean. The New Mutants are just kids we're raising and training up to be the next generation of heroes. We've made sure up to now-"
"That's what they're worried about," Ross interjected. "Up to now; from what I've heard, they're questioning the Avengers having mutants on the team, especially Namor and Wanda, being how powerful they are."
"They dare question my motives? They should tread carefully," the Atlantean monarch mumbled.
"Not just you Namor-they're worried about the number of mutants taking residence up in San Francisco since the mayor opened it up as a safe haven; they're worried the X-Men may lead them in some revolution."
"Look, that's just one of the problems," Steve continued. "Congress is looking at all our past incidents here in the nation-Hulk's mind control under MODOK and his resulting rampage in Vegas, our LA Syndicate grudge match, our last battle with Magneto's Brotherhood; and they're also looking at other incidents... like Spider Island, the FF's near accidental destruction of Manhattan, the time the New Warriors almost blew up Stanford in their fight against Nitro..."
"There seeking to control us, aren't they?" Dr. Strange asked.
"I think so."
"They can't do that!" She-Hulk said. "The Avengers are an internationally supported team, and we have authority granted by the UN; we're backed by SHIELD & SWORD! Hell, the mansion grounds are considered international territory. Alpha Flight & Excalibur aren't bothered with this kind of thing. They think they can try to control us?!"
"In essence, they can try-the majority of us here are still US citizens. The only ones they can't touch are Thor, Hercules, Namor and Panther; maybe our resident SHIELD agents can get away, since... well, they work for SHIELD."
"So is that an alternative?" Carol asked. "We have to work for SHIELD to avoid all this?"
"No." Cap's voice was firm and commanding. "The Avengers work for no one. We go anywhere in the world where we're needed, even if it's Latveria. The government has no right to try and control us, because what we do is give back to the world best we can with what the world's given us." This seemed to calm the team down a bit.
"I just want to ask everyone that they be a bit more careful out there, avoid as much collateral damage as possible and whatnot, and just be overall the best you can be," Stark said. "It's getting annoying to deal with all these lawsuits. Carol, I'm sure I can count on you to relate this to Peter, right?"
"Yeah of course; although," Carol said, a smile creeping onto her face, "knowing him, he's probably already messing it up somewhere." At that, everyone laughed.
*Somewhere in the Lower East Side, NYC*
"I'm sorry... what?"
"You heard me-I want reimbursement! Someone's gotta pay for what happened to my restaurant!"
"Dude, why are you asking me? I just beat the bad guys up! Don't you have insurance for this kind of thing? I mean, it happens, like, every day out here."
Spider-Man was having a bit of a problem-swinging to Midtown, he happened across a robbery in progress, and being the responsible hero he was, came in and taught the thugs a few manners. Of course, they tried to fight back, shooting and stuff, but Peter was just too damn quick for them, and in only few minutes and jokes later, the thugs were taken down. Police were now taking them away, and he was just about to be on his way... when the restaurant owner demanded he pay him back for all the damages.
"You should be telling those guys to pay you back!" Spider-Man said as he pointed to thugs being pushed into the armored vehicle headed for Ryker's. "They DID try to rob your store!"
"Yeah, but they weren't shooting or anything! They were just taking money and they'd have left-then you show up and ruin everything, they shoot the place up and trash my restaurant! I should sue you!"
"Right... ok. Listen, I got to go now, so you keep suing passing heroes that save your life and I'll just go back on my way." With that, Peter swung off, with the restaurant owner yelling after him, "THE BUGLE WAS RIGHT ABOUT YOU, WEB FREAK!"
'Sue me? What's there to sue me for?,' Peter mused to himself as he arrived at Midtown and ducked in an alley to change to civilian clothes. 'I barely have any money to my name; I'm doing overtime at Horizon and freelancing as much as possible for Jolly Jonah to get enough money for this.' Exiting the alley and mingling with the populous, he checked his jacket pocket. 'Ok, envelope & cash are still here. Ok, Parker, time to go hunting.' With that, Peter began his third day of searching through Manhattan's best jewelry stores.
*Avengers Mansion, an hour later*
Carol and Jess sat in the lounge, watching a rerun marathon of one of the most popular shows in the country, based off one of the world's most popular comics.
"I loved T-Dog," Jess frowned. "He was awesome, and that was just a bad way to kill him off. I swear, those stupid prisoners... but I still love The Walking Dead."
"Can you imagine if a zombie apocalypse actually broke out in real life? The chaos that'd be caused; what if some of our own were infected?"
"Oh come on, Carol, like THAT'D ever happen; Wolverine heals from everything, we have two gods on the team... must I go on?" The two laughed, realizing that if a zombie apocalypse did ever happen, it wouldn't stand a chance against the superheroes of Earth. "So, how's my male counterpart?"
"He's alright, doing his thing, being bored out there, being all mine," Carol answered with one of her rare luminous smiles; Peter's name always brought a smile and happy memories to her mind. "He's visiting his... aunt tonight."
Jessica was quick to notice the faltering in Carol's voice. "Carol, don't tell me the woman still makes you nervous?"
"She's so sweet and loving, don't get me wrong, and we get along just fine-but that warning she gave me the first night I met her... I've never been so scared in my life. Seriously, if it was you, you'd feel the same way."
"I doubt it; I'd just manipulate her into liking me instantly."
"Of course you would," Carol replied with a smirk. "You always want to take the easy way."
"I'll have you know, Ms. Danvers, that I am very-"
"Ho Spider Woman, Ms. Marvel." Both women turned to see Thor standing at the doorway, his hammer in hand and a fierce grin on his face. "There is trouble brewing upon the streets, and the locals have asked for our assistance. What say you, maidens, are you ready for a battle?"
"Oh yeah, Thor," Carol replied, her eyes glowing. "I'm ready for some action."
*Avengers Conference Hall*
Steve and Tony had remained behind in the conference hall, looking at the various documents, forms and digital files of every lawsuit, complaint and government ordinance that Congress had sent them about their activity in the country.
"Tony, I know what I said to give the team a bit of support," Steve remarked. "But to be honest, I have a bad feeling about where this is headed."
"Honestly, Steve," Stark replied somberly. "I kind of feel the same way."

I was tagged by @hotchnerobsessed to post 8 TV Shows to get to know me! Thank you for thinking of me! Here are my 8 TV shows and I will add my favourite men to it as a twist :)
Criminal Minds
Most definitely one of my favourites. That shouldn´t surprise anybody seeing my profile. For sure Sir Aaron Hotchner, SSA, Boss baby, babygirl, daddy.
Tumblr media
2. Hawaii Five O
Shouldn´t surprise anyone else. It´s probably the second most talked about series on my profile. Who am I kidding, Danny and Steve it is.
Tumblr media
3. Murder She Wrote
It´s an all time classic and definitely my favourite. I can rewatch it over and over again. I love it. I actually do not have one, it is a to old of a series for me to stan them, but breakfast with Jessica? Yes please.
Tumblr media
4. Gilmore Girls
Gilmore Girls was definitely a Covid watch for me, which I managed to grow so hard in love with that I had a whole exam about it. Luke. Luke, Jess and Finn. But if I had to pick one? Luke. The grumpy to my sunshine.
Tumblr media
5. 21 Jump Street
21 Jump Street is a childhood hit for me, I raced back from school to make it infront of the TV in time. Officer Tom Hanson. My man, my boo and my favourite actor in one.
Tumblr media
6. Haikyuu!
Haikyu!! is the first anime I´ve ever watched and I rewatch it once a year. Azumane Asahi, the brown long haired tall ace. I see you.
Tumblr media
7. Peaky Blinders
Also a Covid Watch for me and I loved to see the rough boys get even more rough, more emotional, more blind. I am still not able to choose between Tommy and Arthur (I do have a thing for broken men).
Tumblr media
8. Bleach
It was a hard pick between Bleach and Castlevania as I love both most dearly. But I picked Bleach because it was there before Castlevania. It was the second anime I watched and for sure Renji Abarai is my boo.
Tumblr media
There are most likely even more but that should do it for now ♥ Also who am I kidding, in every single one of those I can pinpoint a fictional character I would date and they would all fall in the same one or two categories.
I can already tell you that it hurts that I couldn´t put Midsomer Murders, Agatha Christie´s Poirot, Castlevania, Free!, Agatha Christie´s Miss Marple, there are just so many good ones.

[Glitter on the Wet Streets: Part 12] We’re All Chrome
Loose ends are tied, a Fourth Rule is made, and Eddie enjoys New Year’s Eve with Matt’s weird superhero friends.
Chapter 12 of 12.
I’m not a Karen-basher, but I definitely came away from Daredevil feeling like she and Foggy hadn’t actually accepted Matt’s vigilanteism and acted more like it was a thing he did that they would tolerate.
Warnings:  Canon divergent based on the MCU.  Oblique spoilers for Black Widow, Wandavision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Hawkeye, Daredevil, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and Luke Cage.  Brief ableist language (‘split personality’ is broadly considered pejorative and outdated).  Matt’s enormous martyr complex.  Talking things through like well-adjusted humans.  Jess still isn’t fooling anyone.  Language: PG-13 (primetime TV plus s***, f***, and one use of g**damn).
Pairing:  Matt/Eddie, past Eddie/Venom (plus background Foggy/Marci, Luke/Claire, and Danny/Colleen).
Timeline:  A year after the events of No Way Home, but (kind of) concurrent with the events of Hawkeye (told you it was canon divergent).
Disclaimer:  I doesn’t owns the movies or the characters.  Or the assorted objects of pop culture reference.
We’re All Chrome
The day after Christmas, Eddie and MJ get to sit in an interrogation room with Matt and Foggy while a detective named Knight asks them questions about their articles and the evidence they’ve gathered in relation to Fisk’s laundering schemes.
Eddie can tell she’s seething—getting more and more frustrated as the minutes tick by.  She’s one of those who thinks it’s more important for her to know and be in control of everything than for the desired outcome to be achieved.  He’s more than used to mob interrogation, so an unofficial police interrogation is pretty mild; MJ, of course, is a Woke Teen, so she knows her rights without Foggy having to say a word.
“Look, Detective, we’re obviously on the side of good,” Eddie says in placation.  “That’s the whole reason we’re providing official evidence instead of just printing everything and letting the public do what they please.  But revealing sources can harm us financially in a major way, not to mention the possibility that you’ll spend taxpayer dollars putting away impoverished and unhoused folks for victimless crimes.  Nobody likes that kinda bad press—you don’t wanna look like a bully, and sad people don’t buy newspapers.  On the other hand, we’d love to write about you busting each and every one of these crooked businesses, because angry people buy a lot of newspapers.”
“We want to help,” MJ agrees.  “But we will not reveal our sources, and without substantial proof that our sources are endangering the public, we cannot be compelled to.  The evidence we’ve gathered should speak for itself.”
Knight frowns like she wants to punch all four of them.  “Murdock, just smile if I’m right,” she whispers.  “This is something you and your little superhero team pulled off.”
Matt smiles.  “I think we’re done here, Detective.  Our clients will gladly provide the fruits of their investigations, but not their informants.  I’m sure Eddie’s recordings, in particular, will prove extremely useful in pressing criminal charges.”
Knight heaves a sigh and opens the door.  “Thank you for your help—Mr. Brock, Miss Jones.  We’ll be in touch.”
Randall, who has been waiting outside, immediately starts shaking Foggy’s hand.  “Thank you so much—Jeri Hogarth spoke so highly of you, and I can see why—”
“Oh, no, sir, really,” Foggy says with a stiff smile. “There was hardly anything for us to do here except look stern and official.  Mr. Brock knows his work very well, and he’s teaching your daughter all the right habits.”
“Now, whether or not she’ll learn them, hehe…” Randall jokes, slapping Eddie’s back.  “Ouch!  What on earth?”
No touchy!
“Hm?” Eddie asks innocently.
“Hit something pokey.”
“Izzat so?  Huh.  Must have a safety pin buried in my hoodie somewhere—thanks for the warning, Mr. Watson.”
“Uh, yeah, of course…”  He stares at the back of Eddie’s hoodie for a few more seconds before shaking his head and smiling at MJ.  “C’mon, sweetie, let’s get some ice cream to celebrate your first big scoop!”
In the cab to the law office, Matt says, “That wasn’t very nice of you, V.  Good boy.”
“I don’t wanna know,” says Foggy.
Eddie shrugs and says, “Let’s just say, if he wasn’t MJ’s dad, he’d be missing a hand right now.  Also—any word on the Fat Man turning himself in?  V’s got his scent now, so it ain’t like he can hide.”
“How does Claire not go insane?” Foggy wonders aloud.  “Every other word out of you hero-types is borderline nonsense.  Bulletproof guys, zombie ninjas, rich boys who punch holes in mountains with their glowing fists, women who throw cars around…now a guy with a split personality whose alter is part bloodhound.”
Back at the office, Karen has finished making copies of all their evidence—forensic accounting, deeds, all the info on Sloan, the associated info on Bishop Security, Eddie’s recordings, Jones’ photos (she’s got the negatives), MJ’s pics of Rafa taking the bribe.
“It’s enough to get a lot of warrants,” the blonde says happily.  “Tower is over the moon.  We’re gonna rip out the rest of the roots this time, and Miss Jones-Watson—”
“She doesn’t go by Watson,” Matt interjects.  “Knowing who her father is, it’s probably to escape any implications of nepotism.”
“—Miss Jones,” Karen corrects with a nod of understanding, “is going to have her pick of papers to work for—I recommend the Bulletin.”
“Good,” Eddie says, nodding.  “Great.  I mean, hopefully she’ll be off to school soon instead, and then maybe she’ll get a job with a science publication, but…”
“Deep breath,” Matt orders gently.  “She texts you twenty times a day and casually put you up in her guest room without even bothering to tell her father, let alone ask permission.  I guarantee you those kids will still be obsessed with meddling in your life while they’re in Boston.  And I’m not a terrible consolation prize.”
Eddie nods again.  “Eh, I guess you’re okay,” he jokes, earning himself a pinch to the ribs and a kiss on the lips.
“New Year’s won’t be like Christmas,” Matt assures him.  “Worst case scenario, they’ll all judge you for dating me and tell you at great length what a train wreck I am.  As for V, he’s hardly the strangest thing they’ve seen.”
“Sounds kinda nice.”
“Oh, yes,” Karen says, and there’s a little edge in her voice even though her smile is wistful.  Then the edge gets a little sharper, and the softness to her expression vanishes.  “Claire is much nicer than those three boys deserve.”
“Wow, fuck you,” Eddie says, feeling his hackles rise.  “It’s one thing to say it like you’re complimenting her, but that’s not how you meant it at all.  I don’t know this Luke guy, but Danny did us a favor he didn’t have to do, and Matt is a goddamn saint compared to half this city.  Keep your complexes to yourself, Miss Page.  Happy fucking holidays.  Let’s get outta here, baby.”
“Eddie, what the hell?” Matt hisses as Eddie drags him back out the door (or as he lets Eddie drag him, more likely).
“She doesn’t get to talk about you like that to me.  She can say whatever she wants when I’m not around, but I ain’t about to just sit and smile while she heavily implies that she thinks you and your friends—who might not think I’m a complete freak show—are pieces of shit.”
“Karen doesn’t think that.”
“Yeah, well, you didn’t have to see the look on her face, like you betrayed her trust once and that’s all you’ll ever be to her.  That face she made is the same face I make when I’m talking about my old man, and I somehow doubt you used to slap her around.  But correct me if I’m wrong.”
Matt pulls him to a stop halfway to the elevator.  “Eddie…”
“Don’t,” Eddie says softly.  “I know you said you promised them you’d stop, but that’s a shitty thing to make someone promise.  Did they ever even accept that it’s part of you?  Or did they just kinda stop talking about it because they were glad you weren’t dead?  They set you up to fail, and now, years later, she’s still pissy about it?  Fuck that.  It’s not fair to you.”
“Life’s not fair to me, Eddie.”
“You and your—your fuckin’ double-standards!” Eddie growls.
rule two, eddie
All at once, the anger and tension just drain right out of him.  “Sorry.  I’m so sorry, babe.  Rule two.  Okay.  You want to make my life better, and I love that so much.  But you keep trying to stop me from making your life better, and that hurts.  I want good things for you.  Do you not trust me to give them to you?  Or do you really believe you don’t deserve them?”
Matt gives a long sigh.  “Those are inherently unfair questions.”
“If you don’t deserve good things, does that mean you don’t deserve me?”
“Our relationship is not about what I deserve.”
“It is, for me.”
They stand in silence for a moment, Matt’s eyebrows furrowed as he tilts his head.
“I love you.  I want to help make you happy.  I want to make your life easier, brighter, better.  I want you to be able to be somebody’s hero without getting scolded for it like a teenager who snuck out after curfew.  I think you deserve all of that and more.  You saved me, remember?  You gave me a home in your heart.  So right here and now, I’m making rule four:  if you get to make my life better, I get to do the same for you.”
Matt nods, then clears his throat.  Nevertheless, his voice is hoarse when he says, “Okay.  Fair enough.”  And he gives a little smirk.
Eddie pulls his stubborn boyfriend into a hug.  “Okay.  Let’s go home.”
Things get easier after that.
Fisk turns himself in, Knight gets to barge into every Sloan property, a tentative court date is set (and Eddie will no doubt be called upon to talk about attempted extortion), MJ proudly shows him a draft of her first follow-up article.
Rule four crops up a few times, and Matt tries to resist at first, but help comes from an unexpected quarter—Karen invites them to a nice café for lunch with Foggy and Marci, apologizes for the day after Christmas, and says that she’s glad Matt has someone so feisty looking out for him.
Eddie accepts her apology and explains their four rules, and Foggy is such a fan of the idea that he steals rule two and rule four to use in his own marriage (which prompts Marci to make silly lovestruck faces at him).
“It’s about goddamn time someone made you accept kindness that isn’t based on a livestock barter system,” Karen says.
“There’s definitely some kinda story behind that,” Eddie declares.
Foggy proudly tells a story about accepting chickens—live, flapping, clucking chickens—as payment for a case.
CHICKENS
Eddie refrains from rolling his eyes.  “You guys still get any chickens, from time to time?”
“Ah, not yet,” says Karen.  “But I’d never rule it out…we’re kind of known for being bleeding hearts.”
Also delicious!
Metaphor, V, she’s being metaphorical.
bah.
They go to Claire’s New Year’s Eve party over in Harlem.  Eddie and Venom are both introduced, and no one seems particularly put off (Colleen even starts asking a slew of questions about the existence of extra-terrestrial civilizations).  Jones shows up with a boatload of projected nonchalance, like a cat pretending not to want attention, and brings her friend, some semi-famous radio show host with a pretty smile.
A few drinks in, Trish is telling stories of Jones’ youthful misadventures and Danny is leaning heavily on Luke’s sturdy shoulder.  Venom and Colleen have moved on to favorite YouTube stars.  Matt and Claire are catching up on the state of various friends and family since the end of the Blip.  On the TV, the Times Square feed is on low volume.  Eddie just holds Matt’s hand and relaxes and lets it all wash over him.
Maybe having the Scooby gang go off to college won’t be so bad.
Danny has dozed off by the time the countdown starts, but he snaps awake in time to sleepily say, “Hap’ New Yer,” with Jones and Trish and Venom as Claire kisses Luke and Colleen takes a hilariously awkward photo (because Danny looks like a drunk third wheel hanging off his married best friend).  Eddie smiles into the kiss he’s sharing with Matt while fireworks thud through the sky downtown.
Yeah, having grown-up friends could be nice.
EDDIE.  Trish and Colleen say we should get an AIR FRYER.  It is not for frying air, despite its deceptive name.
I have much more interesting plans for tonight than shopping for an air fryer.
what could POSSIBLY rival FOOD COOKING APPARATA?
Eddie projects a few mental images.
oh.  well.  that is much more interesting than an air fryer, though i could contend that it still technically involves feeding me.  it won’t take all night, will it?
Eddie definitely means for it to take all night.
“We should get going,” Eddie says very unsubtly.  “Early to bed and early to rise, yadda yadda.”
“Early to bed, huh?” Luke teases with a wink.
“Well, take care, then,” Colleen says, elbowing the big man.
Trish waves.  “It was great meeting you, Eddie!”
“And nice finally seeing Matt again…” snorts Danny.
They share a round of mixed hugs and handshakes.
“Matt, you smell like gummy worms!” Claire says after kissing his cheek.
“I know, right?” Jones agrees.  “Happy New Year, trash babies.”
They laugh their way outside and down the hall.
“She loves us,” Eddie decides with a grin.
  .End.

Stony for 30 or 40? I LOVE U SO MUCH UR FICS GIVE ME LIFE 💛💛👏
AHHHH YAY LIFE!!! you and an anon both requested #30, so here’s some classic tony!angst and protective!steve :3 — I PROMISE THERE IS A VERY MUSHY, VERY HAPPY ENDING
#30: “You’re not worth it.” (TW: child abuse, references to alcoholism, Howard being a shitty human being [but what else is new])
***
It’s Wednesday, and Wednesday means movie night at the mansion. A time-honored tradition that goes all the way back to the Avengers’ inception, back when Steve was still finding his way out of the ice—literally and figuratively—and Iron Man and Tony Stark were two different people.
It’s been a long time since those early days, Tony thinks, watching the new team assemble on the couches, loveseats, beanbag chairs, and blankets strewn around the in-home movie theater. The screen isn’t excessively massive, per Steve’s wishes, but the sound is as good as it gets, per Clint’s; Tony updates the hardware year over year to keep up with the times, especially as film goes the way of digital (much to Steve’s chagrin).
But tonight is Steve’s pick for movie, and Tony wonders if it was planned that way the moment Luke Cage asks what they’re going to watch and Steve gets that glint in his eye. The one that Tony can recognize from a mile away now without even trying, the one that screams “Steve Rogers is a little shit” and that very few people seem to be able to hear.
Tony groans the moment Steve grins and says, “Home movies!” while revealing two armfuls of reels from behind his back, some of which are so dusty and small, Tony wonders if they’re Steve’s.
The team settles in with enough snacks to put a rhino in a coma while Tony and Steve head to the back of the room where the vintage projector Tony pulled out of storage for the occasion awaits.
“Next week, you can pick the movie,” Steve whispers conspiratorially, bumping Tony with a friendly elbow. Tony has to hold himself back from leaning into Steve in response, the way his body feels primed to do and has done for literal years, ever since—god, since always. But Tony knows his interest and affections are very much one-sided, and Tony doesn’t need to flagellate himself over it any more than he already does with everything else in his life. Plus, watching Steve with each of his girlfriends is more than taxing enough.
He’s had years of practice keeping his feelings for Steve from the man. He can handle an elbow and a wink. That shit’s practically child’s play.
“If footage from my sweet sixteen made it into this lineup, we’re watching all three Die Hards,” Tony replies with a saccharine smile that makes Steve blanch.
“Tony, no.”
“Tony, yes.”
“The last time we watched Die Hard, Clint wouldn’t stop talking with a fake German accent for a week.”
“I know! It was hilarious, and I want to get it on camera this time so I can send it to Alan Rickman. He’ll hate it.”
Tony giggles at Steve’s huff, which is really a laugh disguised as exasperation, another one of Steve’s tics Tony knows by heart. The pain and joy of knowing that secretly splits Tony right down the middle—the joy of knowing Steve is a much bigger troll than anyone realizes, the pain of wanting to grab him and kiss him for it—but he hides it all with an elbow to Steve’s ribs and a muttered “jerk” under his breath.
He’s spent the past ten years and change like this—halved by a love that makes him feel whole, which is an equation that shouldn’t work, but does, because Tony’s math is always right—so what’s one more night? In the grand scheme of things, not much, and every second of it is more than Tony could have ever hoped for.
Together in the darkest part of the room he and Steve work in tandem to load the first reel onto the projector and let it run: it’s early footage of the first Avengers team, recorded off of a news broadcast. Down in front, the rest of the team throws popcorn and jeers, laughing themselves hoarse at the costumes, the villains, the dialogue—“‘He’s a real ball of fire!’” Clint wheezes from his beanbag before Natasha pelts him with Milk Duds—while Steve and Tony sit back behind the projector, shoulder to shoulder, running their own private commentary all the while:
“I miss that armor.”
“Shut up, no you don’t.”
“It’s true! Anyways, isn’t vintage all the rage these days? You should bring it back.”
“I’m not bringing back Pointy-Faced Iron Man and his Roller Skates of Doom, Cap.”
“Not even for me?”
Tony slides Steve a look out of the corner of his eye, face still directed toward the screen, a classic are you fucking kidding me? if there ever was one. Steve bats his eyelashes in response, because of course he does. Unfortunately for Steve, Tony is mostly immune to that tactic by now.
Mostly.
“Let us watch Die Hard next week and I’ll consider it.”
“Ugh, Tony…”
“Hey, heart-eyes! Next reel!” someone (see: Bucky) shouts. Not for the first time, Tony’s glad to be concealed in relative darkness back here—even Steve’s enhanced vision won’t be able to make out the blush Tony’s knows is all over his face right now. He also gets a reprieve from sitting so close to Steve, hyperfocused on his warmth and all of the sensory trappings of home that come with it, while he swaps out the old reel for a new one. New-er, rather. He doesn’t look at the case or look at any frames before feeding it through the projector.
“Alright, you rabble-rousers, pipe down,” he shouts as the image on screen flickers to life.
“‘Rabble-rousers’?” Steve quirks an eyebrow at him as he sits back down. Tony folds his arms over his chest and shushes him.
“Don’t start.”
“Ooh, is that you, Tony?” Wanda coos from her place on the loveseat next to Vision.
“Look at all of that hair! Danny Zuko’s got nothing on you, Stark,” Clint laughs. Tony nails him with a popcorn kernel right in the ear.
The footage unspools, harmless—albeit embarrassing—at first: it’s a home movie from when Tony was young, no more than eight or nine. He’s wearing what looks like the remains of what was once a nice suit, something his parents forced him into, probably, but devolved into undershirt and slacks and suspenders hanging down past his knees. He really was a gangly kid, wasn’t he?
Tony laughs along with everyone else, warmed by Jarvis’ voice offscreen telling “Young Master Anthony” to show off his latest invention for the camera. He feels Steve’s eyes flicker over to land on him whenever young Tony smiles at the camera or laughs at something Jarvis says, but Tony ignores it. Mostly.
“He reminds me of Steve,” Bucky tells the room when young Tony is shown with a replica of Cap’s shield, posing triumphantly to the sound of Jarvis’ delighted laughter. Jess aww’s.
“He does, kinda, doesn’t he?”
“How have I never seen these before?” Steve whispers, leaning closer as he does. Tony swallows hard against the shiver that ricochets down his spine hearing that low voice in his ear.
“A lot of things of mine you haven’t seen, Cap,” he replies, too late to stop the innuendo from slipping out. He looks at Steve after he says it and almost, almost lets out a gasp: when did Steve get so close? And why is he looking at Tony like that? All intense and considering?
“Oh, here’s someone else I remember,” Bucky laughs. Tony turns away from Steve, grateful for the excuse, and starts to release the breath he hadn’t realized he was holding.
It gets caught in his chest the moment he sees himself filling up the screen, young Tony standing alone in Howard’s office, having perched the camcorder on the big oak desk to record himself with Cap’s shield—the real one this time, not a toy. On screen, Tony has his back to the camera, the vibranium shield clutched in his too-small hands. He has to perch it on the floor, its weight just enough to counterbalance Tony’s, but holding it…even now, he remembers the thrill of that first time. The cool touch of vibranium humming under his fingers, the knowledge that he was holding his hero’s greatest treasure…his adult fingers clench against his thighs at the memory.
But then, the image shifts into a sharper memory still, and Tony feels something old and awful claw its way from somewhere deep in his chest, remembering all too well what comes next. It tastes like bourbon and cigar smoke and the metallic taste blood leaves on the tongue after you’ve been smacked in the mouth. Tony’s hands fly out to clutch the sides of his chair and stick there; he can’t move them to stop the projector in time. It just keeps playing out, each frame worse than the one before.
Of course he remembers this moment. He remembers it perfectly, because it was the first time Howard really hurt him. Not with his hands, although the bruises did linger longer than usual, after.
This was the moment when Tony, so tender and impressionable even at that “advanced” age, learned what his father really thought of him.
That old, awful feeling feels a lot like drowning when he thinks of Steve seeing what’s about to happen, let alone the rest of the team.
“I’m Captain America and I’m here to save you!”
“You’re not saving shit, boy.” Howard stumbles into frame like a bad Vaudeville performer, slurring Tony’s name like an expletive. “Put that down, you fucking brat. You’re not worth it.”
The blood rushing in Tony’s ears drowns out the sound of voices past and present. All he can see is Howard filling the frame in that horrible tan suit, gripping a bottle of bourbon by the neck. The image catches on young Tony’s terrified expression, the way he hides behind the shield that’s almost as big as he is. He watches his own mouth move—Cap will save me, he’d cried, so confident, so certain that his hero would come and put Howard through the wall and carry Tony away to safety—and then down the bottle comes…
“Turn it off! I said turn it off!”
Something hits the projector hard enough to not only knock it off the table it was sitting on, but send both hurtling across the room. They smash to pieces against the far wall with a noisy clatter that almost stops Tony’s heart in his chest.
For a moment, the only sound in the room is the thwap-thwap-thwap of film smacking the floor as the reel spins on and on until coming to a feeble stop. He can hear breathing, heavy and labored and sliding quickly toward panic, and he realizes with a shuddering gasp that it’s him making that sound.
Tony looks up and sees Steve standing where the projector once was, cradling his bleeding hand. The man looks stricken, pale and horrified, worse than if he’d seen a ghost; behind him, the team has inched closer, all of them wearing varying expressions of distress and pity and guilt and sadness, and suddenly Tony can’t bolt out of his chair fast enough. He can’t get away fast enough. He follows his feet out of the room into the corridor and down, down, down to the workshop where it’s safe, where he can’t get in, no one can, not unless Tony lets them.
Someone is calling his name, but Tony disappears down the stairs before he can figure out who. He bursts through doors he can’t see and staggers over to the closest workbench, sucking in deep, ragged breaths like he can’t catch up to them. Is that a screw loose in his chest cavity, he wonders, gasping, because that rattling sound seems to indicate something has come undone that shouldn’t have. Howard’s dead, Tony reminds himself, over and over again. It’s a fact as true as any algorithm, so why won’t it take?
JARVIS’s voice moves gently through the noise in Tony’s brain: “Sir, Captain Rogers is asking permission to enter.”
Steve.
Tony can’t decide if the thought of Steve seeing him like this helps or worsens the rattling in his chest. Either way he feels like shit, but only one of those ways ends up with Captain America pitying him, or worse.
He’s so caught up in thinking about all the ways this could backfire he doesn’t realize JARVIS has let Steve into the workshop, regardless of Tony’s feelings on the matter. The realization sets in when Steve’s voice appears close to his ear, soft and low with a frisson of urgency, like he too is slightly out of breath.
“Tony, it’s just me. It’s okay. I’m going to put my hand on your back.”
Warmth spreads from Steve’s fingers through Tony’s shirt and into the skin high up on his back between his shoulders. Steve can probably feel how fast Tony’s heart is racing, but spares him his overt concern and instead keeps telling Tony what he’s going to do before he does it: a hand on Tony’s forehead, an arm around his back, asking JARVIS to turn the lights down to thirty-five percent.
“I’ve got you, it’s okay.”
Tony sags into Steve’s touch, his large, warm hand cradling Tony’s head like something precious; the deeper dark quiets the room around them, makes it less overwhelming, less full of ghosts waiting to cast their own opaque shadows on the empty walls. Tony and Steve are left standing in a dim light Tony knows makes him look sallow; he wavers on his feet, left to borrow from Steve’s strength because he can’t find his own. Lucky for Tony, Steve is right there, braced and ready for anything. Like always.
The rattling has settled somewhat, but Tony still has to rely on Steve to tell him when to breathe and how deeply. He forgets, sometimes, that Steve has experience dealing with panic attacks, which so often came before an asthma attack. Steve once told him that even years removed from his sickly days, he still remembers what it’s like to lose that grip on reality, feeling the heart too acutely as it beats against too-brittle ribs.
While Steve draws on those memories often enough with others on the team, it’s a rare occasion for Tony to be on the receiving end of Steve’s nursing hand like this. Jokes or angry silence over cuts, breaks, and bruises, sure, but this? Tender hands and a voice pitched low and soothing, lullaby-soft, speaking words of gentle encouragement? Tony’s head feels light with it.
“Do you want to sit down?” Steve asks. Tony shakes his head against his palm. “Okay,” Steve whispers, his voice the only one in the room, which makes for a funny kind of one-sided conversation. Then, before he can think better of it, Tony turns toward Steve, wraps his arms around the man’s impossible waist, and hugs himself close to Steve’s radiating heat. He’s too gone for shame, and too weak; a soft, gentle Steve is hard to resist, even on good days. And this just became a no good, very bad day.
Fucking Howard.
Steve, for his part, takes the hug in stride like they do it every day. Tony likes to imagine it, touching Steve like this whenever he wants to, but that’s all it is—a fantasy. Just like being with Steve is a fantasy, one Tony has entertained for far too many years to count. He satisfies himself with Steve’s friendship, tells himself it’s enough, and if he happens to sleep with the occasional look-alike, that’s nobody’s business but Tony’s (and JARVIS’s, and in one deeply unfortunate instance, Pepper’s).
Strangers want Tony Stark, the celebrity; Steve wants Tony as a friend and teammate. That’s all. So Tony steals his nice, platonic hug as he trembles and breathes his way out of a panic attack, being careful to avoid nuzzling the soft notch at the base of Steve’s throat the way he wants to. Badly.
He’s so preoccupied with holding all the disparate parts of himself together and hiding them so Steve can’t see, he doesn’t notice Steve’s hands start to rub his back in long, soothing strokes until Tony is half-melted in his steady arms, weak-kneed at how comforted he feels. Steve doesn’t say anything—just keeps moving his hands, up and down Tony’s back, across his shoulders, along his arms, and over again. He can’t remember the last time someone touched him like this, without motive, ulterior or otherwise; his skin feels warm down to his toes.
“Better?” Steve murmurs. Tony nods against his chest. He doesn’t let go. Neither does Steve, who seems to fold himself over Tony until they’re more like one person than two, standing there breathing together in Tony’s darkened workshop.
Slowly, thoughts of Howard, of hurt, start to melt back into the shadows. In their place is Steve, filling up all of Tony’s empty spaces with light, even some of the ones he didn’t know he had. For such a strong man, Steve is unbearably gentle, handling Tony the way he might handle spun sugar or thin glass. Tony has never felt so genuinely cared for, and the fact that he can’t pull back and thank Steve with a kiss smarts a little in the face of it.
That is, it does, up until the moment he feels Steve brush a kiss against where Tony’s hairline meets his forehead, soft and uncomplicated, but lingering, like Steve wants to stay there. To do more. Tony knows that move because he’s imagined doing the exact same thing to Steve, god, thousands of times.
Tony wants so much. Too much. Asking Steve for this would tip things precariously toward the latter. But the question is taken out of Tony’s hands the moment one of Steve’s perches itself under his jaw and tilts his face up.
“I’m sorry,” Steve says.
“It’s ancient history,” Tony replies, maintaining eye contact through sheer willpower when all he wants to do is look at Steve’s mouth, now so close to his.
“Not to you, it isn’t,” Steve counters, and there’s not much Tony can say to that. “I’ll talk to the team. They might have questions, and you shouldn’t have to answer them. Not tonight, anyways.”
“I know you’ve got big shoulders, Steve, but you don’t have to take on my baggage on top of everything else.”
As they talk, their bodies never move an inch apart; chests pressed flush against each other, Steve’s fingers splayed along the side of Tony’s neck. All of it—the proximity, the tenderness, the intimacy—feels as natural as the breathing they just did together. Ten-plus years of friendship will do that. But then, the way Steve is looking at him doesn’t really scream friendship.
It kind of screams I love you.
Steve gives him that little smirk and says, “Maybe I want to.” Tony scoffs, flicking one of the shoulders in question for good measure.
“God, how are you still such a horrible liar, Cap? Is there something in the serum that makes it impossible for you to keep a good poker face?”
“This is my good poker face,” Steve replies, and there it is again, the same look Steve gave him earlier before the night spun out like a race car with its wheels blown off: intense, considering, and so, so close.
Tony swallows nothing but air. Steve, never breaking eye contact, cards his fingers through the hair on the back of Tony’s head and holds them there.
“If I kiss you right now, will you have another panic attack?” he asks quietly. Not even a blink. The part of Tony’s brain—a scant centimeter, at best—that isn’t currently blasting a hundred sirens at full volume is actually kind of impressed.
“I doubt it,” Tony replies evenly. “I’ll probably just pass out.”
The smirk becomes a full-blown grin. Steve squeezes his other arm around Tony’s lower back and hums, deep and resonant, in his chest as he leans down to brush his lips feather-softly against Tony’s.
“You fall, I’ll catch you,” he whispers before dipping in for a proper kiss that floods Tony’s head with incandescent light. It’s chaste and measured and burning with mutual restraint, tastes faintly of the buttered popcorn Steve ate earlier, and the only way it could be better is if it never ended.
Tony tightens his arms around Steve’s waist, and when Steve pulls away to speak, he doesn’t go far, seemingly content to stand there in Tony’s embrace in the middle of the dimly lit workshop.
“Still breathing?” he asks. Tony smiles; Steve smiles back.
“Takes a lot more than that to knock the wind out of me, Cap.”
The way Steve’s eyes darken at that little remark is definitely something Tony intends to investigate further, later. For now, he leans into the hand now resting on his cheek and sighs.
“We’ll test that theory another time,” Steve husks before leaning forward to press a kiss to each eyelid. Tony hums happily, sinking further into Steve’s arms. “Can I carry you to bed?”
Tony gives him a look. “I’m heavy,” he says.
Steve just smiles, kisses Tony like he’s been doing it forever, and replies: “You’re worth it.”

More Daredevil stuff, maybe another crossover? I'm not big into Prodigal son but I really liked how you wrote Matt and Foggy in the crossover so I think it'd be fun to see them again
Aw thanks! I’m glad you like my stuff! You didn’t specify what you wanted to see crossovered with Daredevil so I took my own path and chose Lucifer since I’ve been rewatching it.
I hope you like it!
__________________________
Matt wasn’t coming back.
Foggy felt numb when he thought that, but the three sullen faces of the other Defenders told him enough.
Even Jessica wasn’t enough of an asshole to try to pull something like this.
Midland Circle.
The building had come down on top of him as he stayed back to make sure the others could get away and that Elektra, the overly pretty ex Matt never got over from Law School, the one Froggy could never understand or like, to surrender, but he was too late.
The Defenders had won the battle against the Hand, hopefully ending their reign of terror for good, but it had cost them Daredevil’s life.
Matt’s Life.
“I need to make a call,” He felt himself say, pulling out his phone as he tried to ignore Karen’s sobs next to him.
The ringing blurred in his head before he heard it shift to pounding club music.
“-llo? Is someone there?” The voice on the other end finally broke through his muddled brain.
“Lucifer,” He forced out of his throat, “It’s Foggy.”
“Ah, Franklin!” Lucifer greeted gleefully as the music grew quieter, “Always good to hear from the Eastern Seaboard! What can Old Scratch do for you?”
“Matt, he...” His voice cracks as tears finally prickle in his eyes.
“Franklin,” The club owner's voice shifted, concern echoing through the receiver, “What about Matthew? Has something happened to the little devil?”
“He’s dead, Lucifer,”
The line was silent for a long moment as Foggy tried to stave off his own tears as Karen’s started to shuffle off behind him, energy-draining from her, “Where are you right now, Foggy?”
The dark note to his voice made Foggy shiver, “My apartment,”
“Is it the same address as last time I was there?”
“Yes but-”
“Good, I’ll see you soon.”
The line went dead. The others were staring at him confused.
“Who was that?” Luke asked.
“Matt’s brother,” He answered, earning a watery smile from Karen.
“Or Uncle,” She added shakily.
“Or Cousin,” His laughter was on the edge of hysterical.
“Or we could tell the truth instead of those ludicrous stories Matthew makes up to see if I can keep up while not lying,” A dry voice announced from the bedroom doorway making the room jump, the vigilantes flipping around and dropping into defensive positions.
Foggy and Karen just smiled at the lean male leaning against the door as he raised an eyebrow at the three in front of him, especially at the Chi swirling around Danny.
“What on earth is a member of the Order of the Crane Mother doing this far from K’un Lun? Let alone its champion?” The Brit asked in bafflement, as he pushed himself to stand upright
Danny froze, and the others shot him questioning gazes, “You know about K’un Lun and the Iron Fist?”
“Well of course,” Lucifer grinned, “Who do you think named the bloody role, Fan Fei wanted to call it something that loosely translates to the Fallen One’s Flame. Rather unfortunate how English muddled the name we came up with. Then again the things she and I would get up to...”
Foggy snorted, through his tears, “If someone told Matt that they were the Fallen One, he probably would have kicked their ass on principle alone,”
“Then complained to Lucifer about how he’s a menace to everything breathing,” Karen added scrubbing her eyes with the heel of her hand, “Thanks for coming so quick, Lucifer,”
His smile flicked down into a scowling mask, “Yes, about that, Karen. What is this rubbish about the little devil meeting his untimely demise?”
“What do you mean rubbish,” Jess snapped, “Look asshole, I don’t know who you are, how you got in here, or why you know about Mr. Glowy Fister over here-”
“Hey!”
She continued as if Danny hadn’t interrupted, “But we all watched Daredevil stay in a collapsing building to give us enough time to escape from the bastards at the Hand. The building came down and Daredevil didn’t make it out. He is dead.”
Lucifer frowned, and in a blink of an eye, he was in Jess’s face, eyes flaming, bathing her face in an unnatural light, “If Matthew had died I would know. He would be in my domain, the little bugger made sure of that with all of his Catholic Guilt. I never felt his soul leave the earthy plane. He. Is. Not. Dead.”
Jessica’s fist swung out but he was no longer there.
“Oh quit it,” Lucifer huffed from behind her, “Matt couldn’t beat me in hand to hand, I doubt even with your powers you’ll be able to land a hit. Nor would you accomplish much since the Detective isn’t here, but never mind that. If Matthew attempted to play the Martyr card, and believe me I’m not at all surprised after raising the stubborn little brat for as long as I did, we simply need to locate him.”
“What the Fuck are you!” Jessica snarled, attempting to take another swing at the man only for him to easily duck under her arm and continue speaking as if she wasn’t trying to take his head off. Foggy wished Matt was here to witness this. He may grouch at Lucifer’s nonchalant shows of power, but he loved having fun and laughing at Lucifer messing with people.
“Either way, I’d suggest telling me where Matthew went missing. Maze and I can track him down so that he can be healed because I imagine getting a building dropped on you is quite unpleasant for mortals. Matthew may have a bit of celestial healing, but I doubt it did anything other than stop an unplanned visit from his Auntie Rea-Rea. ”
“Midland circle, West 44th Street, it’s mostly a smoldering crater now but..,” Foggy told him easily, “Please…”
Lucifer smiled softly, “You have the devil’s word that I will find him and bring him home, Franklin.”
“I’m sorry, but I’m lost,” Danny broke in, “who are you?”
The being smirked widely, “Why I’m Matthew’s family, of course! Lucifer Morningstar at your service.”

shipping ask for Betteinelli, Luke/Jessica, Dinahollie, and Timsteph (if you ship it)
Bettenelli
when I started shipping it if I did: A while ago lmao
my thoughts: I am one of this ship’s pioneers. It was upon this very blog that Bettenelli found its life. I think that should explain how much I love them
What makes me happy about them: The endless potential between them, the way that Helena will literally acknowledge that Bette’s a good fighter, the way that they went from a violent fistfight to trying to be friends so quickly, literally everything about them
What makes me sad about them: They have shared exactly two stories together. That’s all the canon material we’ve got. Sad
things done in fanfic that annoys me: Nothing, I see a fanfiction about them, I adore it
things I look for in fanfic: For it to exist
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: For Helena, Renee, maybe Dinah, for Bette, Hank, Dawn or Charley
My happily ever after for them: Kickass vigilante ladies take down Spyral because they’re cute like that
who is the big spoon/little spoon: Changes!!!! If Bette has a nightmare about the Hook, she likes to be the little spoon and since Helena generally likes being the big spoon, this usually works, but if Bette has a nightmare where Helena was hurt, she’s gotta be the big spoon
what is their favorite non-sexual activity: Crime-fighting and if not that, cooking
Luke/Jessica
when I started shipping it if I did: Back when I was reading Bendis’s New Avengers because I wanted to understand what the HECK Dark Reign was
my thoughts: Okay okay I’ve got feelings about these two like I love them. I do. I adore them. The endless love and support, the way that they get each other, the unconditional love.... uggghhhhh these two DORKS
What makes me happy about them: Absolutely everything they’ve ever done
What makes me sad about them: We never gotta see them properly get together in the Netflix series & goddammit Marvel, I want Dani Cage already!
things done in fanfic that annoys me: oh, acting like they’re perfect & never argue (they do!!!!! But they always work it out!!!!), literally any fic that acts like Danny & Jess got along when they first met lmao
things I look for in fanfic: For them to be the main pairing... appearance by adorable angel Dani Cage
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: For Jess, IDK... I know some people say Carol but eh. I don’t know if they’re really endgame for me. If you say Trish I am legally allowed to murder you. For Luke, it’s Danny, that’s not even a question
My happily ever after for them: They don’t get dragged into the Avengers shit
who is the big spoon/little spoon: Oh, you think they spoon? You think that Luke hasn’t fallen asleep on top of her? You think Jess hasn’t done the same? Fool. They are sleepy, stupid, good people
what is their favorite non-sexual activity: Spending time with Dani it’s my fault they love their daughter endlessly. Judging Matt Murdock’s life decisions. Being some of the few valid Avengers
DinahOllie
when I started shipping it if I did: when I was 10 & watching JLU
my thoughts: THEY’RE IN LOVE THEY LOVE EACH OTHER THEY ADORE EACH OTHER THEY WOULD GO TO HELL AND BACK FOR EACH OTHER I LOVE THEM SO MUCH ACTUAL SOULMATES HERE
What makes me happy about them: Any time that Ollie lifts Dinah up like... I love them they’re soft. Also, the quality banter
What makes me sad about them: DC Comics
things done in fanfic that annoys me: people who act like Ollie cheated on her
things I look for in fanfic: Good Ollie writing. Dinah, people tend to get, but Ollie.... it’s very hit or miss and most of the time, it’s a miss
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Dinah, it’s Babs or Helena, for Ollie, Hal. Just Hal. They’re already in love with each other
My happily ever after for them: All of their kids are brought back into canon
who is the big spoon/little spoon: Changes very night
what is their favorite non-sexual activity: Ollie enjoys torturing his amazing wife with his ungodly cooking

Day 8 of the Lightening prompts.
Prompt: Everything is fine.
*Sorry I missed Day 7, y’all. I was wedding dress shopping and it really took it out of me.
------
Everything is fine, Matt told himself as he valiantly did not suffocate under the combined weight of Jess, Danny, and Luke.
We’re good.
Never been better.
Perfectly fine.
“Oh my god, Murdock, are you alive?”
The rush of everyone to get the fuck off of him was gratifying.
“I’m great,” he wheezed.
He couldn’t see the shared grimaces, but boy could he feel them.
--
As his present (bruised) position was not technically his fault for once, Foggy and Karen were actually sympathetic. Annoyingly so. They kept?? Cooing??? At him?
“I’m fine,” he growled as the twelfth cup of something medicinal-smelling scraped its way across the coffee table in his direction. It sat in line with its brethren, the other concoctions that Matt refused to engage with in any way—especially orally.
“You’re not,” Karen said. “This is the second establishment that’s fallen on you.”
“It’s a team, Karen,” Matt griped. “Not a building.”
“I know, that’s why I said ‘establishment,’ dipshit.”
Oho.
Those were fighting words, Ms. Page.
“I’m not scared of you, Mr. Murdock,” Karen said primly.
“I’m the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen,” Matt reminded her.
“A puppy,” Foggy announced delightedly from the kitchen.
Matt felt a little of his soul crack.
“A devil,” he barked Foggy’s way.
“Hurt puppy. Wounded duck.”
“A devil!!”
Karen snickered and Matt realized that he’d crawled half over the back of the couch in desperation for Foggy’s submission. He righted himself. Cleared his throat.
Be cool. Play it cool. No one will notice.
“Puppy,” Karen whispered.
Right, no. Fuck this.
He lunged.

Desolation
For @iampietromaximoff
Written for the Daredevil/Defenders Exchange, for the prompt, ‘Desolation.’ This also fills the ‘It’s nice to see you again’ square on my Daredevil bingo card @daredevilbingo.
Read it here on AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/21435688/chapters/51076810
“Are we done, Detective?”
“You’re free to go, Miss Jones. But don’t go too far. And tell us if anything pertinent comes to mind.”
“I know the drill.” She pushed up from the table. “I’ll let myself out.”
In the hallway. “Jessica.”
She shoved straight past, not looking at Danny. “No. I’m done.”
“Jess. Jess!”
“Let her go.” That was Luke.
Just walk. One foot in front of the other. Through one set of doors then the next. Down the steps, towards her apartment. Scuffing, sometimes, on the uneven sidewalk. This was not how it was meant to go. Just once couldn’t it be okay? Couldn’t everything just fucking work out? She walked away from the precinct as fast as she could, without drawing attention. There was plenty of action, a few blocks away people, ambulances, police cars. All clustered around that building. But what was the point? The damage was done. He was gone.
She wasn’t fucking going to cry over some loser she’d only known a couple of days.
Not a loser. A person with a life. Fuck.
She needed something normal. Like bourbon. And a blackout.
A week later, she got a text.
Hey Jess, Luke & me R going 2 meet up, maybe meditate then spar. Wanna come?
He must have been fucking high.
She rolled over and shoved her phone away. When she woke up, she blocked his number.
Luke found her, eventually, weeks later, in a dive bar.
“How many places did you search in, asshole?”
“How are you, Jess?”
“I do better without small talk.”
He nodded. “Mind if I stay here and drink?”
“It’s a free country. For the moment, anyway.”
She swirled the pisswater in her glass and threw it back. It seared in her veins. She kicked idly at the bar and focused on the task at had. Which was, of course, forgetting. Always trying and failing to forget.
“You know,” Luke started, but she cut him off.
“What do you want with me, Cage? Cos I don’t have anything for you. Nada.” She spread her hands, showing him her empty palms.
He turned towards her. “Jess,” he said, quiet and low. Then he stopped and dropped his head, breathed in and out. “I don’t know. I don’t know that I want anything, I just…”
“Say hi to Claire for me,” she said, voice flat. She slipped off her stool and threw some crumpled bills from her pocket onto the bar. Pam swooped in without seeming to move, sweeping away the money, giving the bar a cursory wipe and vanishing again.
“She left.”
Jess shrugged. “People leave.”
“How’s Trish?”
“We’re not doing this.” One foot in front of the other, out the doors.
Out into life that never gave her a fucking break. Life that startled her with its beauty, with its hidden depths and its sheer persistence. It might be just chance and time that allowed life to start in the first place, but once it started and had a toe hold it was really hard to snuff out. Life of infinite, branching variety.
Life that gave and took away. Life that gave Trish the ability to help people, the brains to do that wisely, and the mother to screw her head up.
Life of cruelty.
Life that fucked over the one person Jess really loved.
Jessica couldn’t save her.
Jess stood there on that bare and freezing dock, watching the helicopter disappear, and she felt herself, paper thin, tear in two.
When she finally saw him, she froze for an instant in shock. She had heard he was back, impossible not to know. But he was also in her dive bar, just outside the kitchen. It wasn’t by accident.
He didn’t acknowledge her presence as she slid onto the bar stool beside him and nodded at Pam, the bartender. It was only after she had a glass in one hand and the bottle on the bar in front of her, and she’d taken her first slug, that she swiveled to face him.
“I could have used a lawyer who wasn’t completely deranged.”
Matt laughed hoarsely, didn’t turn her way. “That might have ruled me out. It’s nice to see you again.” He had one hand resting on his cane, folded up on the bartop. That didn’t seem sanitary.
“You’re fucking hi-la-ri-ous.” She swiveled back.
“You kiss your mother with that mouth?”
“I might, if she wasn’t dead.” She stared at her own reflection in the grimy mirror above the bar.
Matt shook his head and turned part way towards her, face tipped a little down.
“I’m sorry, Jess.”
“Your dead dad. My dead mother. Whatever.”
“No, I mean I’m sorry. For everything.”
She breathed in sharply through her nose, held it, breathed out slowly. Shrugged. Drank. “You’d better not be a zombie ninja. Cos I have had it with that shit.”
“Not a zombie. The ninja part?” He tapped his fingers on the cane.
“Yeah, well, I think we both know better than that.”
“Stick,” he began, swallowed. “And Elektra. They…”
“There’s a lot of people in that club.” She held up her glass, and he clinked his against it.
“Do you really need a lawyer? I’m practicing again.”
“I know you are. And it wasn’t for me.” Jess emptied her glass. “It’s too late, anyway.” Her traitorous heart was beating hard in her chest, and she knew Matt could tell. She topped up both their glasses, slopping a bit on the bartop.
They drank in silence for a while, and slowly Jess relaxed. Her chest hurt a little, but he was so warm and alive and he wasn’t expecting anything of her. Occasionally, he’d tilt his head and half-smile to himself.
“Hear anything interesting?” she asked.
Matt huffed. “Depends on your definition. But, since you ask, want to get out of here?”
She turned to study him, the cocky smirk, one elbow leaning on the bar. Why the fuck not. “Sure. My place. Yours gives me the creeps.”
“Yours got roof access?”
“No.”
“Damn.”
“We can’t all be lawyers.”
“Thank god for that.”

As most know the Teen Titans is my favorite team in the DC universe and have been since the  Marv Wolfman and George Pérez era. Heck, I even somewhat based the Gravity Heroes off of them.
Now I love the cartoon, but It seems that people (DC included) seem to think of them or Damien’s little brood as the Teen Titans. I know there is the Titans comic and the live-action Titans tv series, it still seems like they focus on the same Titans (Robin/Nightwing, Starfire, Beast Boy, & Raven). I’m not saying this is bad, they are easily my third favorite iteration of the team (the post Countdown team & the Atom’s team take the first two spots). I’m just reminding people that there are more Titans then those four.

Omg do u know which rarepair ur gona do for the marvel bang. As for ficlets u have anything defenders gen I miss them together
I am gonna do poly Matt/Elektra/Foggy — there’s literally two whole fics for this on AO3, lol, so it is Very Rare. Still waffling between two potential plots though so like. If anybody wants to vote...?
Also pls have some goofy Defenders shenanigans and a, er, bare... devil?
The real problem with no longer wearing body armor, Matt considers, is not actually the higher risk of injury. It’s that sometimes even when you don’t get hurt, you still end up mostly-naked in an alley that smells like day-old Chinese takeout. And also that sometimes your new team (“You know it’s ok to refer to them as your friends, right?” Foggy had said. “Seriously I know it’s hard to tell with Jones but they do actually like you back. I’m pretty sure Danny is making you a friendship bracelet right now this minute.”) is there to witness it. Danny’s very politely looking away, based on the sound of his breathing. Jess has no such compunctions.
“Cover your shame,” she insists. “As nice as your ass is I’m pretty sure you don’t want to go down for public indecency. And no, I’m not lending you my scarf to turn into a skirt, use your mask like an adult.”
“The mask stays on,” Matt growls, with as much gravitas as he can muster when he’s got no shirt and barely enough pants left to cover his front.
If he took his hands off the fabric at his hips, he’d be naked. Comments about his ass are bad enough, he does not want to know what any of the others have to say about his dick.
“Fine. Give him your hoodie,” Jess orders Luke.
Luke’s response is completely flat.
“You do realize it’s full of bullet holes.”
“Please, Murdock’s always looking for an excuse to show off his tits, he’ll wear it,” comes Jess’s unconcerned reply.
There’s a sigh and a rustle of fabric as Luke shucks his hoodie.
“Alright, Matt, at your ten,” he says. “And you, give the man some dignity.”
Jess huffs and stomps as she does it, but she turns the other way. Luke’s good at getting her to do whatever he asks. It’s something Matt envies deeply. He drops the pathetic scraps which are all that remain of his clothes, and grabs Luke’s hoodie. It only takes a second to tug on, and falls well past his knees. The sleeves hang over his hands. Matt’s weirdly reminded of bundling up in his dad’s boxing robe after his death, and has to shake the association before it settles in. Instead he thinks about how much Foggy’s going to laugh at him when he comes home wearing a mask, combat boots, and Luke’s enormous bullet-hole-riddled Swiss-cheese of a hoodie.
“Are you decent?” Danny asks.
“Never,” Matt replies, because at this point his sense of humor is all he’s got left. “But I am covered.”
Danny laughs. It’s a nice sound. New. They all have their issues — enormous, horrible issues — and the first time they’d teamed up, their loose partnership had been fraught with them. But Matt thinks maybe... Maybe now that they’ve had time to get to know each other, to meet as people in peaceful settings, to learn the layout of each other’s fault lines — Jess’s rape, Luke’s incarceration, Danny’s ten different flavors of child abuse, Matt’s not-brief-enough flirtation with suicide... Now, maybe, they’re making each other better. And it’s not about erasing the past, or ‘fixing’ one another, it’s just that things get a little easier when someone has your back. That’s something Matt learned from Claire and Karen and Foggy, and he’s... Elated, actually, although it’s a word he’s only very rarely associated with himself; he’s elated to be able to witness the way being a team, a real team, brings out the best in all of them.
“Come on then, Hornhead,” says Jess, breaking Matt out of his train of thought. “Let’s blow this fucking popsicle stand. Midnight brunch is on Nelson tonight and I was promised waffles.”
“The man does make a mean waffle,” Luke agrees, stretching — there’s a couple of pops and a relieved sigh.
“Did you get the blueberry syrup I sent you?” asks Danny. “Is there some left?”
It‘s organic and heavenly and probably worth more than Matt makes in a month, and he’s tempted to say no just to hoard what little is left to himself. But... Well, ok, yeah, the other Defenders are his friends, so he might as well act like it.
“Yes, there’s still some left.”
“Sweet! I call dibs!”
“I’m pretty sure the rule of the kitchen is first come first serve,” Luke points out, sly and a little too pleased with himself.
And so begins the race back to Matt’s place, where warmth and good food awaits. He loses miserably due to a loss in maneuverability caused by his his lack of pants, but Matt still can’t stop smiling.
