Yet Another Package Editor

Download the latest version here

YaPe is a modern package editor for DBPF (.package) files

Features:

Why make yet another package editor?

Simply said, because SimPe can be kind of cumbersome especially on Linux, and package editors other than SimPe (s3pe, s4pe, iLive's Reader etc.) do not support Sims 2 resources.

To illustrate, I timed someone shrinking a texture (convert RawARGB32 -> DXT1, shrink 2x) in both SimPe and YaPe:

SimPe + GIMP: 1m 30s

YaPe: 10s

Originally this started as just a way to easily test if my DBPF library was doing the correct thing, but over time it has grown to become a half-decent editor suitable for more general use.

Tutorial / usage tips

Here I will explain how to shrink and convert textures in YaPe because that's what I imagine most people will use this program for right now, but of course you can use it for other things as well.

Let's get started by getting the program to look the way you want to: use the options in the top left to change the scale of the interface and switch between dark and light mode.

Now drag a package file into the program (don't worry about closing the sims except when you save the package), a list of resources in the package will be visible. You can find out what the abbreviations mean by hovering your mouse over them; in general I try to add tooltips like this to buttons or options that are unclear.

Don't be afraid to mess around and make changes! The changes you make are never saved unless you press the save button, so if you simply drag your package file into YaPe again without saving you will get your original package back (there is currently no undo function, but it is a planned feature).

All these resources are great, but we're only interested in the textures for this tutorial so let's set a filter. Right click on a texture (TXTR) and select "Filter on type".

Great! Now you can only see the textures we're interested in. You can disable this filter by unticking the "filter" option at the top.

Now click on the "TXTR" to open the texture, it will open a new tab in the lower half of the window by default. If your window is not very big (like mine is for this tutorial) you might have trouble seeing the texture and all the options. You can drag the tab around and put it somewhere else in the program, I'm going to put it on the right and make it a little bigger so we can see what's going on.

Okay, now we can see all the options, and well... there's a bunch of them. We'll go over some of the options that you'll likely want to use but feel free to experiment of course.

First, let's have a look at the texture viewer at the bottom: you can zoom in on the texture by holding control and scrolling, and you can change which mipmap is displayed by clicking the radio buttons above the texture.

But wait, this texture does not have enough mipmaps to show up in game! (post by @pforestsims) Let's fix that right this instant by clicking the "Add missing mipmaps" button in the middle.

Okay, now the mipmaps will show up in game, which is good... except that this mipmap is really blurry. (post by me) Luckily we can fix this really easily, just click the "Recalculate all mipmaps" button.

Much better!... except that we've created a new hidden problem: the leaves will disappear when zooming out in game (blog by lisyarus) but even this problem can be fixed. We can actually preview what the texture will look like when zoomed out by switching the format to DXT1 since DXT1 has binary transparency, just like alpha tested textures like leaves and grass.

Right, so the leaves have a bunch of holes that don't look right when zooming out, let's change that. Above the "Add missing mipmaps" button there is the "Preserve transparency" slider: try changing it to something like 120-170 and click "Recalculate all mipmaps", you can see that the transparency changes, if it's still too thin/transparent set the value higher and recalculate again and so on.

Have a look at all the mipmaps (zoom levels) and once you're satisfied with the transparency change the format back to DXT5.

This texture will now look great in game! But it is also quite large, so we can reduce the size 2x smaller without sacrificing very much in terms of looks (sorry to all the cc authors who love their large textures). Click the "Remove largest texture" button, which will make it so that the first mipmap becomes the largest texture effectively reducing the size by 2x. Like mentioned it does use the first mipmap so make sure to fix any blurry mipmaps first.

You can repeat the same process for the other textures in the package, and then we're done. Save the package by clicking the save button in the top bar, and have a look in game at your beautiful textures.

Another option is to drag images/textures you've made somewhere else into the program (with special support for dds files), for a full lists of supported image formats you can look here. (image-rs documentation) The image/texture will currently go into the firsts open texture resource tab because of UI framework limitations.

Who will teach you what is "normal"? LUKA is older and understands this better - he looks up with his eyes, drooling on his sleeve, and you just gently snuggle closer to him so as not to disturb him. he is so gentle and small, even if he is taller than you - when did he become like this? he was always so little...

you do not notice at what point you are really inseparable. his hand is in your hand, he is hanging on you, you are almost wearing him, his shoulder is in your shoulder, he is on your chest, you are on his chest, lying together under a tree, lying with your head on each other's shoulder, cuddling, cuddling another, putting your head on your head - over time, personal space becomes more less and less, both in quantity and in time. he's got his heartbeat under your fingers, your own beating to the beat. ... it's so weird when he keeps snuggling up to you - and you to him so you're probably no better - even as you get older. he already looks different, children's cheeks and fat disappear, exposing chiseled elegant features full of some gentle sadness of a luxurious but little-lived butterfly, mixed with longing for something long lost and forgotten, and... sun. some kind of sunstone. there is less of that gentle, childlike softness in him, more like fresh milk, - and more of that silent severity, even sharpness. his face changes, he stretches out, his gaze is no longer the same, he no longer drools, does not look into the distance with the same face, does not cling to you like a lost chick, does not look like someone abandoned and unable to survive on his own, the name of which is spinning in your head, but you can't tell, when he puts his head on your chest, but now it doesn't feel like that. it's still your LUKA, but not your LUKA, and you don't know how to explain it to him, especially when he's still looking up from the bottom, as if thinking about something, but now it seems so... strange and distant.

you are not uncomfortable with his touch or proximity, but seeing him like this seems unfamiliar. his gaze changes, his body changes, he is silent with a completely different meaning, and you realize that he has been through too much - now you are old enough to understand this - but you still do not know what you can say or do. you can no longer protect him, give him a portion, hide him in your hands, promise to always be together, kiss him on the forehead, hide behind bushes so that no one finds you while you huddle together as if for the last time - none of this will work.

and you get even more disgusted - from yourself, from the situation, from him - when he tells you "don't worry. I will protect you. I guarantee your safety." with a direct eye-to-eye look because you don't want protection - you want time back, hiding in the bushes and wet spots on you or on his sleeve from saliva. you want to lie under the trees again, tell him about your day, draw and laugh.

you don't want that.

... you only get the point when you watch some person die on stage, but LUKA doesn't look affected, scared, or shocked.

he's the best of his kind - you know that yourself, everyone know it - but it all looks funny and ridiculous when you don't just see strangers dying, but you see your LUKA on that stage.

and you are disgusted and ashamed that the only thing you are happy about is that you are not this dead man on stage and that you are not LUKA's opponent. because you know that no one has a chance.

... well, almost no one.

HYUNA has been special since childhood, and if you could not expect such a performance from LUKA, then you expect everything from her.

Your posts make me happy whenever I see them because one day, I would like to become a teacher. I want to teach possibly kindergarten or first grade. Also, I think your posts can be applicable in non-school settings too in some cases. Thank you for such a wonderful blog! <3

If you have a bachelor's, I recommend you try substitute teaching. Look up the school district that you live in, check the careers page, and see how they hire their substitutes. Usually, it's done through a contract agency. Most schools near me use ESS. Typically it's $150/day in New Jersey, and it's very easy to get hired so long as you go through criminal background screening first.

I have about 15 different jobs in my career history, spanning many industries. Teaching has been the most meaningful and rewarding by far. It's also been the most difficult by far. Do not go in unprepared.

Do not go through an education program until you have ample experience in the classroom to see if you are a good fit for the job. That's what I did, and it did not work out. You want to see your strengths and weaknesses in the real setting before you invest your time.

And it's worth it if you can stick the landing.

Taking a break from amphibianaday soon and may or may not return

Day 1821 is coming up soon, marking half a decade of amphibians! After day 1821 I will be taking break to re-evaluate if I'm still drawing because I want to or because it's become a habit. Between fulltime work and hrt turning me into some kind of extrovert I have a lot less free time now. I guess I'm figuring out how I want to spend it?

I don't want to promise any kind of return but I also can't quite commit to deciding to stop for real yet. So. I'm waiting until day 1821 so I can end on a good milestone if I don't decide to keep drawing! :D

It's been part of my life for so long, it's hard to imagine not drawing every day now. But my life is in such a different place now than it was when I started, in so many different ways. When I started I was living with my parents, working a part time job I hated, hoping to study to become a game animator. I had only barely figured out my gender situation after years of questioning and denial. Since starting this blog I have:

come out as trans

got accepted at my dream school

changed my legal name

moved out

realized I didn't want to be an animator actaully

fell in love with rigging and programming

graduated and started working as a professional technical animator

started HRT

got top suregery

Kind of wild to think about how drawing amphibians has been with me quietly in the background through all this. I'm sort of moving away from bein An Artist™ (at least professionally), but drawing all these amphibians so far has been awesome and improved my art so much. I've made lots of art I'm really proud of!

Alos gotta take this time to say a Huge thank you to anyone who has ever said something nice in an ask, dm, reply, tag, etc. I read and treasure every kind message and it's always made my day to hear my art has brightened someone else's, or been an inspiration :)

Kaiser would be estatic about having a goth girlfriend. Considering he's more eccentric and enjoys eccentric things. He'd enjoy showing you off, always having you send fit checks to him, and even letting you decorate his things like his car, room, and even phone aesthetic.

He adores your aesthetic, giving anyone death glares who choose to look at you the wrong way.

Even a small glance Kaiser is already memorizing the person's face, body structure, and clothes. You don't normally care much but whatever you're laid back about he is more high strung for.

"Michael enough, I know that look."

You would stare at him unamused as he sends death glares at a small child who was just mindlessly staring up at you. Sighing relieved once the kid walked away with their parents.

Back to decorating his room, it was simple Kaiser wasn't one to decorate much considering he often travelled due to matches. So whenever you were over you'd leave something in his room. He had many plushies ranging from gloomy bears, gothic looking bunnies, and even light pastel cats.

Polaroids of the two of you hung from his walls, considering you preferred to take material photos than just keep them tucked away in your phone.

During his birthday you never knew what to get him, you also knew very well he didn't like recieving gifts so you decided to make him things instead of buy him knick-knacks.

Adding to his new decor, crocheted blankets and small plushies were now on his bed.

Kaiser became some what of a softy after getting with you. Sure he threw his tantrums from time to time and had an attitude. But you noticed a change in him, you calmed him down even though he wouldn't verbally admit it.

"Don't move." You ordered one hand gripping his chin as the other applied his eyeliner almost perfectly onto his skin. This had become part of your routine whenever you stayed over at his place, which was often.

"Liebling, how does it look?"

"It'd be better if you didn't move so much."

"I can't help it, I love having my eyes on you~"

Kaiser gave you the attention you never thought you'd want. And sure enough, he grew on you quite quickly.

Rin didn't think much about having a goth girlfriend, to be fair he never thought much about relationships in general. He's lowkey the type of guy who doesn't care about how people look or dress. Will he give weird stares? Hell yeah. But it's not like he's going to fully hate someone for it.

When he got into a relationship with you everything was chill. Sure you didn't watch much football, you only knew of the blue lock program due to theory videos on the internet.

So during one of his breaks, you ran into him at an arcade the guys had dragged him to. He was hella nervous. You wore large platform boots, a ton of makeup, and had piercings. Rin wasn't really expecting someone like you to come up to him, the aesthetics clashed- plus he had no idea who you were.

"You're part of blue lock right?"

Rin thought it was a hassle but decided to answer your questions. He just wasn't expecting for you to ask him about brain washing and if there were tunnels under blue lock.

To put it simply he thought you were crazy.

Few months into the relationship and he still thinks you're crazy. Doesn't mean he doesn't love you.

"Please Rin let me do your eyeliner! Just this once!"

You often begged him to try out some things you enjoyed doing. He always said no after you asked to give him piercings. That one hurt you bad when he said no.

"Fine, if it'll make you stop whining."

You squealed and began doing some rubbed out eyeliner on his waterline, grinning from ear to ear as your smiley piercing was on display.

"He loved seeing your smile, the tension in his body melting away as he patiently let you do his make up.

You and Rin were the definition of loser bf and goth gf; while you collected small random figures of skeletons wearing animal costumes he was collecting action figures and football cards.

Just like with Kaiser Rin was heavily over protective with you. Whenever Otoya or Shidou commented on him having a "goth baddie" for a girlfriend he was always 0.2 seconds away from knocking their lights out.

He would do it even if they didn't say anything, knowing you always cheered him on no matter what.

── .✦ Sae Itoshi

Sae had known you for a while, way before you chose your aesthetic and way before he left for spain. Childhood friends you would say whenever someone asked how you knew the red headed football player.

To say he was shocked that you were goth would be an understatement but it didn't necessarily bother him. He found it quite unique, he loved it.

He enjoyed going on shopping sprees with you, not minding that he had to quite close to thrity minutes to an hour for you to get ready. You were laid back and he was aswell, you never rushed to be anywhere.

"You're beautiful Blossom."

Sae would say smoothly watching you get ready using your light up mirror that had bats carved into the wood. You would be painting on your eyebrows, one halfway done as you turned and blew him a kiss.

The press was quite shocked to hear Sae had a unique girlfriend, but he loved showing you off. Your sense of fashion always blew the press away.

Even on dates you often took him to thrift stores, he was used to the idea that he'd need to spend a fortune on his significant other, but instead you made your own clothes and jewerly, and preferred to thrift.

The most he normally spent was on concert tickets. Which he didn't mind considering he got to watch you get all dolled up.

Sae got used to your antics quite quickly. For example, he normally expected to be sent a playlist at 3am from you. The message saying "This playlists reminds me of us" or just a playlist full of song recommendations.

He loved how passionate you were about things even small things that most wouldn't glance at. It made him want to become passionate over football again, it was just the effect you had on him.

And even though you didn't force it on him you tried subtly to bring him and his young brother together again. You spoke to Rin often as he went to you for most things whether it was him asking about Sae or just being agitated about anything and everything.

Of course Sae was aware of this, even hesitantly asking to see any pictures Rin would send you or ask about his brother.

It started with Sae sending check up messages to Rin—he would either get left on delivered or left on seen—but now he has short conversations with Rin.

It's slow but it's something. And he had you to thank for that.

── .✦ Seishiro Nagi

Nagi would not care about how his significant other would look or dress. He'd be quite indifferent about it, considering he probably looks for whoever wouldn't be a hassle.

Reo on the other hand was probably shocked to see his white-haired friend with you. Questioning how exactly Nagi got a girl like you considering how lazy and laid back he was. Was it the height? The looks? Dare he say personality??

You had met Nagi at a costume store, looking for new decorations for your apartment as Nagi was dragged to go shopping with Reo—who was in a completely different store—he just wanted to come in for air conditioning...

He ended up walking out with a scheduled date.

You found Nagi immensely attractive, though others might say otherwise. He seemed like he didn't care about his looks. His hair was messy as if he just got out of bed, his clothes kind of thrown on yet still looked relatively presentable. Not to mention his height and lazy sleepy eyes.

He was just your type.

On the other hand, Nagi wasn't expecting some goth chick who barely met his height with her platform shoes on to walk up to him. If he didn't know any better, he'd think you worked at the shop.

In his eyes he thought you looked like a video game character. Specifically, from a horror game.

Being the blunt man he was he voiced his thoughts. To anyone's surprise you took it as a compliment and asked him out.

The two of you often lazed around together and played video games. Mid way through walks you would remember tiktok trends and decide to do them.

"Nagi just stand there." You would direct before walking up to him and stepping on his dirty converse before kissing him with your hands cupping his face.

Nagi also seemed to enjoy staying at your place more than his own saying "It's cozier" whilst having his head buried into your cleavage. With your black out shades and dark lighting in your bedroom, it was the perfect nap atmosphere.

To say Bachira loved having you as his girlfriend would be an understatement.

Hey so, just a friendly reminder. I have not, and will never use generative AI to write my fics.

I've made my stance on the use of generative AI pretty clear, I think it's a huge waste of energy and time, and in its current form, both text and image generation is built off of plagiarism in massive amounts. It's completely unethical, to me, to use these programs in creative works. Especially in creative works you post as yours.

I will continue to never touch these programs for the rest of my creative career. I got this far on my own hard work, and I will continue doing so. I have zero interest in letting a machine do the one thing I find joy in.

I write, both fanfic and original, for the joy of sharing stories. I create to share a bit of myself with others. A machine could never understand that.

It's a losing battle, I know. So much of our writing, our drawings, our own photos, have been fed into these machines. It's becoming inescapable no matter where you look. I continue to post online knowing that with each update, I'm feeding this machine unwillingly. Fanfic is fed directly into character ai, our tweets and blogs are getting scraped, everything. And I desperately want people to understand that if an artist who has been creating for years, puts something out that looks kinda like AI, to stop for a moment and consider: maybe it does because that person's whole archive has been devoured and regurgitated over and over.

Of course some people have pivoted to using it and vigilance is key, but don't just blindly accuse someone without damn good proof to back you up.

And no, this isn't a "wow, you're so edgy and misunderstood" post. This is a dissertation of pure, unadulterated Tumblr rage aimed directly at your pointy little head.

First of all, the aesthetic. Let's be real, the whole hellfire and brimstone thing is tired. It's been done. We're in the 21st century, Satan. Get with the program! I'm talking, like, pastel goth hell. Think lava lamps, but filled with glitter. Think demons in ripped fishnets and platform boots. Think a color palette that's less "burning souls" and more "strawberry shortcake meets the apocalypse." You're a fallen angel, not a grandpa!

And speaking of fallen, what about your social media presence? It's abysmal. You're supposed to be the ultimate influencer of evil, and yet your tumblr feed is just you sibling for jesus and begging for attention. Where's the relatable content? The "tag a friend who's definitely going to hell" memes? The aesthetic vision boards for different levels of eternal damnation? You're missing out on a HUGE opportunity to corner the market on edgy teens.

Don't even get me STARTED on your employee benefits. I heard that soul-crushing paperwork is the only thing that hasn't been automated. The lack of dental is appalling. I was able to find "Cars Origins: Storm Chasing" available to borrow on the Internet Archive. If you don't know, "Storm Chasing" was a middle grade novel Jackson Storm's rise to fame. It's told from the point of view of his crew chief, Ray Reverham.

I get the impression few fans have actual read it. Not surprising since, again, it's a middle grade novel that's been out of print for years. Because of that, it's one the things I'd like to discuss on this blog. Granted, I don't know if I anything new to add to the discussion; I only just got into the fandom There's years of discourse and discussion I've missed. So if I'm just rehashing worn out talking points...well, sorry, I guess. Forgive me, for I know not what I do. All I want is possibly discuss this book with follow fans, even if I'm not saying anything groundbreaking or new.

Anyway, one of the most interesting aspect of the book is how Jackson, during his time training to be a race car, and right up to the day of his first Piston Cup race, is ridiculed and dismissed for his esports background, with some cars implying, or outright even stating, that Jackson isn't a real racer because of it.

Most people are probably aware of Jackson's esports origins, so I'm going to glace over it. In short, prior to becoming a professional race car, Jackson made his living winning video game tournaments. One fateful day he won a tournament hosted by billionaire Axle P. Biggs. This victory led to him being recruited into the Bigg's Piston Cup racing program. Upon arriving at Bigg's racing facility, Storm wastes no time making enemies of everyone around him, including the team captain, Tim Treadless. Storm immediately insults the dude upon meeting him. After Storm drives out of ear shot, Tim has this to say about his new teammate:

Now to be fair to Tim and the others, Storm's arrogance and complete unwillingness to work as a team player do him absolutely no favors in this regard.

Mainly, I find this interesting given how he treated Cruz. If Jackson was a nicer, more empathic person, these experiences might've lead to a feeling of kinship with her since she also came from an unconventional background and they've both have been treated like outsiders. But, no, instead Storm very...Storm about the whole thing. Personally, I wonder if Jackson's trash talk towards Cruz may actually be a reflection of his own insecurities. I doubt many people agree with me though. lol

hi hi! Thank you for the questions 1. Clip Studio Paint, my comic pages' size is 1600x2900 pixels when I'm working on it, but that includes empty space on the sides where my lines can go over the limits when needed

2. "HP Simplified Hans Regular"... I sort of want to hand-write all of my text tbh, but I thought I shouldn't make things too energy-intensive for myself

3. Depends what you want the structure of your story to be like. For me the important part was the setting that was generated for me so the moons going forward & the brisk pace that that gives you have less importance for my story than they would for most Clangen stories, and therefore I didn't go very far in the moons before I started sketching down pages

I think looking for uniqueness itself can be kind of a trap, and i think it's most important your characters are distinct from their surrounding cast of characters than them looking unique when looking at the wider art community. Any kind of design can be recognizable if it makes an impact. I think using patterning especially can be something people might fall back on too easily to make characters distinct. These are the other ways I like to try make a cat character recognizable and interesting (among their cast): - Experiment with different, even subtly different whiskers, ear sizes and shapes, fur texture (sleek, puffy, curly, spiky, flowy etc) and where that fur might be most prominent in each character (one fluffy cat might have a huge puffy chest fur, another long hair cat might have their long coat look more heavy and pulled by gravity, another cat might have the puffiest tail but less in the chest, etc). Also of course the usual, like different eye and nose shapes. - Use color contrast to make the character demand more attention to itself. If a cat has a big white patch on their face when the rest of their body is dark, it immediately brings your attention to their face. I often like to play up and heighten the contrast of a warm-toned body against cool-toned eyes like Whisperingpaw's reddish body against his deep blue eyes, but it works just as well in reverse or with other color contrasts. This can be muddied though if the design is full of highly contrasting small elements in unimportant places of the body which instead can just become confusing to the eye. It's why I don't really like designs from for example Genshin Impact

^ Whisperingpaw, I even made his grey pawpads more cooltoned than usual for some extra contrasting details - Try designing two characters at once instead of one at a time. When you design two at once, especially if they have some connection to each other, you can already start laying out some opposing or just different physical traits to them. If you make a huge cat next to a small cat, both of their sizes are immediately noticeable traits about the cats that you can perceive and build on. If you only drew one huge or one small cat, you might not really even register their size as part of their design because there is nothing to compare it to. Let their relationship & direct comparison be something that contextualizes them and gives them something more than an empty paper to relate to - Continuing on the "let the characters have something to compare to", a character will always look more beautiful if they are surrounded by more bland or even "ugly" characters. A character's intricate patterns will be more noticeable if surrounded by very simple-style characters. Use this to your advantage and let things like beauty or cuteness be character-specific traits instead of something expected of each design. This is just another benefit to having a diverse cast, it doesn't just give representation to less charismatic styles of characters (which already has so much value by itself), it lets the "beautiful" designs be more convincing to the eye.

I'll focus on various dating styles your characters can have. You can have fun matching one style to another to create various relationship dynamics!

Flirty: Throwing cheezy comments without batting an eyelash, teasing, having fun watching the other turn into a tomato

Mother/Father: always nagging their partner, giving advice, putting up with their bad days with patience (not in a toxic way, please run from people who actually tries to be a parent rather than a lover)

Grumpy: Someone who always complains about what their partner does/tries to make them do...but does it anyway with actual effort.

Sunshine: Generally naive, upbeat characters who makes their partners smile.

Nerdy: Lost in their own thoughts, can talk about their interest for hours on end but will listen to you also, you can never be confused about what they want for their birthday.

People Pleaser: Someone who believes they need to adapt themselve to the other person to make the relationship work. They're nice, funny, comfortable to be around but once you try to unveil their true self, things will get complicated fast.

The Committed Robot: Look, they might be a little slow to picking up the subtle cues, but if you program them right, a reliable output for each input is assured... They WILL cry with you, even though they're acting with a mindful of question marks.

Independent: They don't believe in relying on their partners and prefer to be given time to sort through their problems. Sometimes, maybe a little too compulsively.

The No. 1 Fan: They will love and cheer you like a fan would love their favorite artist. Compliments and support during the hard times, trusts more in you than you do in yourself.

I'm sorry if my blog has become very politicized, but considering that my favourite game is about the Cold War and that my biggest interest so far is history, it's very difficult to disassociate these topics from politics. I don't care what political ideology you think I follow, it's something I don't plan to share in the near future.

Having explained that, I'm going to explain why I hate Adler and anything related to the CIA, therefore, why I am worry that a part of this fandom is becoming an endless tangle of disinformation about the Cold War and the washing of the CIA's image. It's not a blog specifically made to discredit anyone, rather I think it's a good introduction for anyone who is a fan of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and wants to have more historical context about the plot, and also about my opinion about it.

All the information that I will share here was taken both from books that I own, and from articles on the subject.

Also English is not my first language so probably you will see many grammatical errors and most of the information I'm going to reference will be in Spanish.

No, I don't have the excuse that it's just a game when obviously the story of this one is inclined to a very specific position. It's not like it's a non-politicized game like Minecraft would be. The main plot of the game is about a group hired by the CIA to stop a secret organization operated mostly by Soviets that wants to take down the West, in this way, the Americans illegally infiltrate several countries and commit crimes within them. That in itself sounds super-political and morally questionable.

To me, Adler is the image of everything America wants in a model citizen; a man, white, blond, soldier and loyal to the country. It's literally America turned into a man. His morality is obviously questionable, but the fact that he is so loyal to the CIA even knowing what the organization does make to me a very negative point of the character. Both the U.S. government and its intelligence and defense agencies are imperialist and do not care about anything in order not to admit defeat. This is something we could notice with the beginning of the Vietnam War in 1955.

The only reason I can find the fact that most of you ignore, do not know or normalize all this information is because of the CIA and FBI program where they have spent decades investing millions of dollars to control, recruit and finance university professors from all over the world, both within their own borders and abroad. You can find more detailed information about this in the book entitled "Spy Schools: How the CIA, the FBI and Foreign Intelligence Exploit America's Universities". I, on the other hand, will summarize it as best I can; In recent years, schools have become a disturbing line of fire for espionage, trying to recruit allies and gain access to sensitive military hardware. The FBI and CIA look for their sources in international students and faculty with close connections to government, business, and technology. Even a former Pentagon agent admitted that professors, graduates and even students are coveted by all sides, and that universities are the best places to "recruit" and that they favor intelligence work. This type of relationship between the academic and intelligence worlds translates into more or less rigged conferences, a perfect environment for recruitment. Sending their own agents or organizing everything from the shadows, from private companies, since they do not want the name of the CIA to appear anywhere. In some cases, they organize "fake" meetings with the sole motive of reaching a potential defector from an enemy country. Conferences in academia are very important because it is where these "intellectuals" exchange information. If any of that information is rigged to swing to what one organization wants, it results in many of the people who attended the conference believing what they say and then doling this information out to their students or co-workers. This basically translates into the fact that they have been rigging the teachings promoted by dozens or hundreds of teachers around the world for decades. Teachings that you or I can easily receive in the present, past or future. This program is not something that died at the end of the Cold War, but resurfaced more strongly than before after 9/11.

Returning to the subject of the Vietnam War. Vietnam was the most humiliating defeat the United States had against a communist country, but within the game they tried to make it look like the United States was winning, even more, making it appear that what they were doing within a territory that they invaded was correct (although obviously what we saw were memories of Adler implanted inside Bell's head and not as such canon, but in other games of the Black Ops saga we can see the same, since other characters such as Woods, Mason and Hudson were also in Vietnam). In this case, what Hanoi Hannah said in her broadcast in South Vietnam for the American troops were truths, and not just propaganda to lower morale. It really was like that. U.S. troops in South Vietnam were ill-informed of the development of the war. The high command did not communicate the truth to them, many of them believed they were winning, when in fact they were not. They died in vain for a country that does not care about the integrity of its citizens.

"Nothing is more confused than to be ordered into a war to die or to be maimed for life without the faintest idea of what’s going on.", was one of the things Hanoi Hannah said in her broadcasts.

The United States could not win the war and still dragged it out for 20 years because of its pride, reputation and money. The Vietnam War lasted from November 1, 1955, to April 30, 1975. War is good business and the United States knows it, there is a reason why it has been at war with low-income countries for decades. The most recent have been against Libya, Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. We can see a pattern in these four countries.

And another thing to note, the Vietnamese army did not have as many resources as the Americans did. Most of them were not even capable of war. They were people who were trying to defend their territory. The Viet Cong army was made up mostly of peasants. The United States invaded their crops and they had no choice but to defend themselves. An example of this was the Mỹ Lai massacre, a war crime that consisted of the mass murder of civilians by U.S. troops. Vietnam represented the high point of the struggle for national liberation of the colonial peoples. I'm very sorry, but I can't defend or want characters related to something like that. My morals prevent me from doing so.

Vietnam since long before the war was an oppressed and colonized country. Its conquest began in 1859 and ended in 1888, being renamed French Indochina, along with Cambodia and Laos. I'm not going to explain the whole history of Vietnam because that would be too long, but you just need to know that the anti-colonial movement in Vietnam had been expanding since long before 1930. Communist expansion in Vietnam was the only way they had to free themselves from imperialism and the only reason the U.S. intervened during the revolution was because they wanted to prevent communist expansion in Southeast Asia. Dude, are you going to tell me that instead of being happy that a people is achieving independence, you go and ally yourself with the French colonizers and create a fucking war against them just because you don't like that what motivated them to the revolution was communism? Call me crazy, but I'm totally against it.

Project MK Ultra, sometimes referred to as the CIA's mind control program, is the code name given to a secret and illegal program designed and executed by the United States Central Intelligence Agency for experimentation on human beings, without their proper consent.

It was a CIA project, it was not something they didn't know about or chose to ignore. It was something financed by them, and for what? To ruin people's lives? Because this project ruined the lives of many people. Not only of the victims, but also of the relatives. The CIA only cares about winning, no matter the methods, the consent, the integrity of its citizens, nothing.

Fidel Castro was not even a communist at the beginning of the revolution. Literally the only reason Fidel Castro said his revolution was a socialist revolution is because the U.S. ran over him to do it. Fidel never believed entirely in ideology. He was an opportunist and saw in communism an opportunity to defeat the United States with the help of other socialist powers. The one who really believed in the ideology was Che Guevara, assassinated with the help of the CIA on October 9, 1967 in Bolivia when he tried to start a revolution, in which we remember that Bolivia was being oppressed at that time. Many of Cuba's communist policies were implemented by Che, not Fidel. And Cuba's current situation is not even Fidel's fault, but the United States and its embargo operation that began in 1958. The only reason Cuba didn't end up the way it is now much earlier was because of the Soviet Union and its aid to Cuba. Castro did everything possible to keep his people free, but the United States prevented it in every possible way.

I don't think Adler is a Nazi just because he worked in the CIA, but there is a very big possibility that he collaborated with Nazis during his service in the CIA, since in 2001 the CIA published 10.000 documents acknowledging how the Americans "reconverted" without hesitation a whole series of agents who served Adolf Hitler for the espionage offensive generated during the Cold War. Which makes me think that it would not be strange if one of the dozens of researchers within the multiple laboratories spread throughout the United States of the MK Ultra project had been a Nazi, although this has not been confirmed, since many of the research documents were destroyed by order of the director of the CIA in 1973.

If you live in Spain you will know the famous case of Otto Skorzeny, who went into exile in Spain and lived there comfortably while organizing for the CIA the Carlos V Legion, an army of renegades and veterans of the Third Reich ready to assault the USSR. These are not even isolated cases. It's not as if the CIA just did it once, there are thousands and thousands of cases, and there are still thousands and thousands of undeclassified documents that God knows they will contain.

After all this rambling, I am going to attach some of the human rights violations that the CIA has committed since the founding of its organization.

Clandestine detention centers (Black Sites), war crimes and extraordinary surrender. They sent prisoners to be tortured by other governments. Admitted by Bush in 2006. In this case, the destruction of the CIA interrogation videos in 2005 also occurred. There were many tapes in which they applied "enhanced interrogation techniques," a euphemism for torture. The training was provided to the so-called anti-communist regimes, regardless of whether or not they were dictatorships. The CIA's training included topics such as counterinsurgency techniques, the use of weapons and communist ideology. The CIA has admitted to knowing, providing support or being involved in assassination attempts or assassinations actually committed, of foreign political leaders such as Fidel Castro, Patrice Lumumba, Ngo Dinh Diem, Abd al-Karim Qasim or Rafael Trujillo. There are a lot of names attached to this point that I prefer to omit, as there are too many and it would be impossible for me to add them all.

As a final part, I want to add the issue of late capitalism in post-Soviet countries. This is a little-known topic, as the problems of non-Western countries are often very little known and poorly informed, and were overshadowed by many other events during that time.

As a way of summing it up a lot, late capitalism is a term popularized by the Belgian Marxist Ernest Mandel, although it was first used by Werner Sombart in 1902. This term describes the stage of capitalism characterized by the expansion of the process of accumulation(increase in machinery, plants, education, training, professional development, experience, etc.), internationalization(division of a company's production processes into different countries to lower costs, gain market, have better supply or better state policies in favor of transnational corporations) and centralization of capital(wealth is concentrated in a small group of capitalists), the introduction of automation in production and the reduction of the turnover time of capital. This for post-Soviet countries was mostly chaos, since the economy and the people could not keep up with this industrialization, since late capitalism not only affected the capital of the country, but also colonized the economic, social, education, art, science, history, architecture and etc. sphere of the population.

The fall of the Soviet Union was a misfortune for many and a victory for others. The euphoria that some of the ex-Soviet countries once had when the Soviet Union fell, ended up turning into pessimism and misfortune, since many of these supposedly promising countries ended up becoming anti-liberal and even authoritarian governments.

While the countries of Eastern Europe are, in fact, richer today than they were in 1989, achieving that situation entailed immense economic suffering and social dislocation: the transition to capitalism generated the largest and longest-lasting economic collapse to affect any region of the world in modern history. It should also be remembered that in 1989, the Soviet Union was going through an economic and social crisis, so the assessment is not very fair. For this reason, we should not always rely on assessments based on simple measures, we must also understand the context within countries during the aforementioned times. During this transition, more than 10 Eastern European countries suffered an increase in poverty never experienced before, even when they were part of the Soviet Union they had never suffered anything like it. 45% of the population lived on the threshold of extreme poverty on less than 5€ a day.

Inequality of income and wealth skyrocketed, resulting in the transition, a very marked division between social classes. It would be one thing to plunge into extreme poverty for the first time, but it's quite another to suffer it while watching people around you living with wealth never seen before.

On top of all this, emigration, alcohol consumption, death and crime rates (both homicides, suicides, heart disease and etc.) skyrocketed in these countries. Fertility also plummeted. Many Eastern European countries experienced demographic declines similar to, or even greater than, those experienced by countries involved in major wars. It was undoubtedly unprecedented.

The reason why today we can see that many people in these countries hate anything related to communism and the Soviets is because of the strong intervention that the United States had in them. A similar case could be found in the intervention of the United States throughout Latin America for centuries. The disinformation campaign they had in these Eastern European countries was immense and in the end, successful. My theory of why people (mostly young people) in these countries associate extreme poverty with the Soviets is because of what they suffered in the transition to capitalism, believing that this was the way they lived when the Soviet Union was still standing. Let's think that 34 years have passed since the fall of it. It could also be because of the great program of decommunization that some of these countries had, turning them in some way radically against anything related to communism. The biggest example could be the decommunization in Ukraine, where they went so far as to ban any communist symbols, historical people related to them, books and etc. Reaching the point of arresting people.

The United States intervened in these countries with tactics such as alleged humanitarian aid and admissions to international organizations because of the extreme situation they were suffering. In this way they blackmailed and bought off several governments.

I added this point to give an example that even though the Cold War ended, the United States did not stop its tactics and interventions in other countries.

As a point in the topic; between 1946 and 2000, the United States tried to influence 81 foreign elections, comparing it to other countries such as USSR/Russia, with 36 attempts to influence, we can note that the number is much higher.

In conclusion, I want to remind you that this blog is informative. I have written some of my opinions and theories, but I have done that in an easy to understand way so that you do not think that it is part of what really happened, but to imply that it is a personal opinion. I don't try to influence the opinions of others or impose my own on others.
