It's kind of a shame that the "anti-filler" mentality has reached a point where a lot of writers (and fans) assume that if a show isnt constantly moving the plot forward and establishing lore, its basically filler and wasting space. Personally I think its good, if not necessary for a show to slow down and just have characters hang out, or deal with smaller conflicts.

It feels like a lot of stories just want to rush to the emotional scenes with barely any build up to really make it feel earned and satisfying. I've seen fans pester creators to rush the story along and reach the next big set piece rather than take the time to really know and appreciate the characters.

Why should I care about the emotional stakes in episode 2 when I barely know a character's likes and dislikes? how they handle conflict, their approach to relationships both platonic and romantic. etc,

#txt #it seems to be a problem in both indie and professional settings #i have a lot of mixed feelings on steven universe. but one thing i always appreciated was the clear prioritization of character focused #episodes. its why i never agreed with the take that season 1 is bad or the 'worst season' because it had 'too much filler'#the latter fantastic episodes from seasons 2 and 3 would not hit as hard without the amount of time and hours spent really getting to know #these characters.

Keeping you all on your toes with the quality of my work in this series.#I had to fire off some expectation-lowering shots to rebuild my energy.#I enjoy opportunities to experiment with formatting and challenge myself B*) I really like how this came out!#In this case; I have been thinking about this comic for nearly a year! The reunion scene!#The start of the festering! The longing LWJ feels contrasted against the reality that WWX has been fundamentally changed.#This is the shape of someone you knew. This is no longer the person you had in your head. Maybe that person never existed.#We build up expectations of who we want people to be - but they are never *who* that person is.#Loving the JC & LWJ parallels with this concept as well; they are both self-inflicted victims of pushing their expectations on WWX.#But we are who we are. We cannot become the idealized version of ourselves that lives in another person's head.#And I love how WWX comes back a little (a lot) horrifying. In his actions and appearance - he has changed. Maybe for the worst.

I wonder :)#But generally I read it as him having grown up <3 They've both matured so beautifully by that point it's just ah- such a treat to read #Their transition from their childhood to their teens and young adulthood into themselves is just jdlksafhdsfd it's incredibly well written!#I say ''I wonder'' quite a lot lol but that's just speculation - watching them grow into themselves is So Incredibly satisfying <3 #It feels so natural to watch them become themselves ♥ It's beautiful ♪♫#And their sibling dynamic is truly unrivaled <3 They support each other! Where one stumbles the other catches him!#I love them so much ahh #Papyrus' emotional intelligence gets me so bad <3 The sweetest lad #I feel like it would bother Sans that he/they have Gaster's memories and not their own #It makes me especially sad to think about everything he missed of them - if only you hadn't fallen behind on the footage Gaster! >:0 #They already have some pretty incredible identity issues just throw being pieces of him in every sense into the mix #They're grown from him and even when they got away and built themselves that still got subplanted with memories that aren't even theirs!#It's a rough spot #Papyrus though ♥ Always knows what to say hehe #Reaffirming that Sans is the most important person to him - that they are to each other - that no matter what they're brothers #And that no matter what - even having Gaster's memories or being without memories at all - that Sans is a good person #That it's not out of self-preservation or trying to do it for Papyrus' sake (even if that is a lot of it haha)#That /Sans/ is the one making that decision of his own volition and his own morals and beliefs #And that he loves and supports him no matter what <3 #''I know you can be a good person. I imagine there would be a Lot of variations #and well. at least in spyre we don't see non-human mixed heritages so far... #laishuro #laios touden #i make a lot of jokes on here since part of the fun of this blog for me is limiting myself to only expressing ideas via drawings #as much as I can to try to see what I can try to convey in the limited time I have to draw each day which is sometimes like 15minutes #but laios idea of who shuro was to him and who he continues to be and how it ties into his own feelings of self worth and self hatred #not to mention being so thoroughly defined by having never been indulged before by the men in his life #are so compelling to me #and then of course you mix in toshiros own mind prisons #and their established dynamic of him begrudgingly putting up with him because he feels he has to and bc hes cursed with obedience #whilst laios genuinely thinks shuro does it because he likes it and likes laios because why else would anyone act like that #when everyone else in his life has not hesitated to Let Him Know #this is what is so fun about relationships like this…forever passing by each other’s true feelings like ships in the night #sometimes i get embarassed how deep i get for some of the characters in this series it really is that deep sometimes but not always #but WHATEVER #i never even engaged in or was interested in shipping the several years i read dunmeshi EXCEPT laishuro lol #which i sadistically wanted to stay one sided and miserable forever. I rarely get fed such genuinely fraught dynamics as their one in manga #so i became obsessed #and walked through the desert alone for 40 years and then checked in as anime started airing that other people ship this and gaf #and decided to unleash the jokes and ideas that my like 2 friend who like anime previously suffered alone as though they were jesus christ #now tho as much as I still enjoy tragedy and pain and emotional suffering I’ve let love and peace and requited fulfilled yaoi into my life #with laishuro. and its great!#my comics

Some quick Linkin Park thoughts:

I hope Rob is doing okay. I entirely respect his decision to step back from the band. I think it's fair for fans to be sad about this, but ultimately whatever he feels comfortable with for him and his mental health is best.

I need people to be respectful and normal to Emily Armstrong. She has stepped into an impossible role. It is okay to be upset about LP continuing with a new vocalist. Trust me, I get it. It is not okay, however, to spew hate at this woman. We need to rid this scene of misogyny, and we need to treat all artists with compassion.

In general, I think everyone needs to have empathy for the fact that we're all going to process this change differently. Not everyone is going to feel comfortable moving forward with the band in this new era, and people who are excited for the band's return need to understand that. Overall, just be kind to each other. Like we know the band is trying to, let's all work to Make Chester Proud.
