I watched Starship Troopers tonight.

#personal #dumb #my art #immediately after finishing i was pumped to watch some analysis vids on it #cuz i heard a lot of the drama about the original author being a pro military fascist and the director going “fuck that” and making a satir #scrolling through youtube search results was not promising. lots of male film buffs i would Not trust even on a first glance.#“The Critical Drinker” (pfp of a bearded man drinking alcohol) lol.#and then I saw cinemawins did a video on it and was like oh nice i haven't seen his stuff in a while but he's a pretty leftist creator #scrolled through the comments #second panel face #this sucks i'm outta here.#just leagues and leagues and leagues of anime pfps and right leaning people dogpiling on him for “not understanding what fascism is”#idk it's pretty alien and weird to me watching this movie and going “wow yeah that was pretty obvious huh” like literally the from opening #to the teacher preaching militance and only giving voting rights to “those who serve their nation first and earn it”#and then seeing droves of people online going #WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? It's not anti-fascist and even if it was it's #the director's fault for desecrating heinlein's incredible sci-fi epic vision. ermm media literacy is dead.

As I begin my umpteenth rewatch of fullmetal alchemist brotherhood I am once again reminded about how amazing it is that this show actually exists in the form that it does like can you imagine if a show like fmab was released today an almost 100% faithful adaptation of the source material not squeezed into 8 or 10 or 12 episode blocks so it can fit a season but given just the right amount of episodes needed to tell the complete story start to end

#fullmetal alchemist #fma #fmab #and i know some people do have issues with the beginning #as they speed it up #and took out some stuff #as theyd already adapted it in the og anime #but i am not one of those people #mostly bc i like the og anime #i think its worth a watch if you haven't already #but yeah just thinking like outside of how amazing the story of fma is #the way it was adapted #even after it was already adapted once #and people liked the og anime at the time #but they still went we can do better #fullmetal alchemsit brotherhood

I think MAPPA has ruined an entire generation of anime watchers.

Yeah.

People should NOT be expecting their level of animation when you have brutal scheduling and low budget. No, I'd say watching the TV series of Neon Genesis Evangelian should be mandatory, not for the story, but what to expect when a show is running out of money and time.

Yes, you should be expecting a "slide show", aka a bunch of stills when you give staff a month or less to complete an entire episode. There should be shots of still characters with their heads turned away from the camera so mouths aren't even animated when you give an animator a day to a week to get a shot done. There is a REASON limited animation is used. But now people expect more and more without there being a change to anime scheduling or pay. Like every episode needs to be full of sakuga every second or else.

People are getting burnt out and the whole damn industry is collapsing, y'all.

The urge to watch W*A*L*T*E*R and rewrite it so that Radar becomes a Zoo Keeper instead of a cop. I've read the plot summary of the pilot and a review and I have thoughts.

My hatred for cops aside, I just physically cant see him being a police officer?? Hes too big hearted and soft.

Let him be a clerk for a zoo while hes studying to be a proper keeper. You can keep the part about him not being able to be a farmer cause he cant bring himself to sell the animals that's fine. Let him be a zoo keeper!! Please please please he'd love it I'm sure!

#i was feeling really bad and dysphoric so i picked up the crayons. as you do #and this evolved out of it and it got me thinking about a “return to animal” type sentiment #like i was watching videos of apes last night and thinking how different it must be to simply exist in your body #without hiding it in clothes and gender conformity and such #and then i was thinking about the idea of “returning” to a state of being you haven't even existed in #couldn't exist in. because you are a product of what came before you etc #(and ofc apes are almost as different from the common ancestor as we are so it wouldn't be returning to ape but like yknow #the abstract idea of the beings we were before we were humans.)#and like why do we call it returning if we ourselves were never there? how much of ourselves actually exists in the past?#why is it that we feel enough kinship to the past that we say “return” when we think about existing there?#anyway. rhetorical questions mostly. this drawing isn't exactly about that train of thought #but i felt i needed to put it somewhere. and this is where i thought of it and i like the way the caption looks #this drawing is sort of about the feverish desire to rid myself of physical discomfort #griffffdraws
