Julius and Ruby Kane aren’t good parents. Not because they aren’t capable of being good parents but simply because they care more about the world than their children, in this essay I will—

Entry 19: The One Where I Perform Mis-Directed as a Three Act Comedy, Act I
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The main characters star in a television series adapted from bestselling romance novels…
Tumblr media
…called Leicester Square.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hattie Murton plays Iris Pinkerton, “[a] living ghost of a person, so unimportant that she could walk amongst them tonight… She was simply beneath their notice, which made her to all intents and purposes invisible. It was terribly convenient.”
Tumblr media
“Anthony [Rafe] was six feet tall and had a swimmer’s build. All lean elegant muscle.”
Anthony plays bad boy, Victor Del Vayo [sp], whose signature look includes – don’t say “pirate coat!” – no, a long cape.
Tumblr media
Anthony also has a crazed fan...
"She’d turned up uninvited at his old flat a week later and bribed the security guard to let her in. He’d made it extremely clear to both of them that if the occurrence was repeated, they’d each be departing in a police car or a body bag."
Tumblr media
Oh, and there’s a character named “Jake,” whose sexual chemistry with Hattie is described as “sparks in a damp firework,” a point that is driven into the reader repeatedly. The Jakolas “would have probably preferred it if this was a euphemism.” Alas, it is not.
Tumblr media
Actual sparks fly between Hattie and Anthony during their scripted love scenes – although, based on the text, they are both drawn to each other before the filming of their season even starts.
Tumblr media
“The fans have got you to where you are. We’ve been listening to what the audience is asking.”
Tumblr media
“Lady Iris was getting a proper romance arc. Not just a series of mad sexual exploits and single episode infatuations with passing guest stars. A full on – and sweet Christ – a long-running affair beginning with a surprise kiss scene on Monday. Iris was about to fall madly and reluctantly in love with Victor Del Vayo.”
Tumblr media
Oh, and did I mention Anthony had “grown up in Mayfair?”
Tumblr media
Let’s not forget Anthony is also a writer…
Tumblr media
And that Hattie’s loves some “[g]ood ol’ Irish tradition…” because her dad is from Galway.
Tumblr media
Then there's this: “’The very sweet Sergeant Llewellyn,’ [Hattie] reminisced. ‘My personal favorite of Iris’s lovers…’”
Tumblr media
And, of course, every single mention of Pride and Prejudice...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“[Hattie had] accidently seen [Anthony] in a production of Julius Caesar at The Old Vic last year during their summer break…He’d been arresting, engrossing, heart wrenching.”
Tumblr media
Anthony’s character, Victor, wears a signet ring: “The ring was heavy silver. A human skull in profile with a ruby eye that could be spun in its socket.”
Tumblr media
Okay, enough about the main characters.
Let's move on to those intimacy scenes…
Tumblr media
“Everything felt off today.”
Tumblr media
“If Stevie had thought they’d been lacking chemistry in round one, perhaps she’d decided to gift them with a bonding experience. A shared case of fake snogging and induced lockjaw.”
Tumblr media
“And now suddenly… you’re touching for the first time in all these years. Lo and behold, caught off guard by the explosion of chemistry.”
Tumblr media
“A nerve twitched under Anthony’s firm mouth. He’d well and truly lost the air of bored idleness now and when he put his hands on Hattie’s corseted waist and slammed his body up against hers, pressing her into the wall, there was nothing disjointed and indolent about the maneuver or the way her breath left her in a rush. The actual mechanics behind the lift and spin were controlled and almost shockingly gentle. He concealed one palm behind her back and took the full force of the collision with his own body."
Tumblr media
“Hattie found herself treating that drop of perspiration as an almost spotting point, like a ballet dancer keeping their balance during a fouette.”
Tumblr media
“A muscle in her neck was starting to cramp, as they paused there artfully for the cameras. She adjusted arching her back in an unscripted gesture that pressed their bodies closer. As her belly rubbed up over his and his sheltering arms flexed, a coiling full-bodied zing shivered through her like the subtlest flooding of spice and warmth and then a jolt of pure fizzing adrenaline… As Hattie watched, still oddly transfixed, his pupils dilated, just a bit."
Tumblr media
“For once, or maybe the first time ever, [Hattie] wasn’t excruciatingly conscious of everyone’s watching eye. She felt frozen, distant from the surrounding scene yet conversely hyper aware of every angle and shiver and prickle of her own body…"
“The hallway, the cameras, the rest of the world, it all ceased to exist. Seconds were slipping into minutes.”

Since my last post got so many notes (thank you!!), I thought I’d share more scenes from the performance. This is a collage of key moments from Julius Caesar, staged at the Curia of Pompey on March 15—exactly where and when it happened.
The video starts with Lucius, Brutus’ servant, announcing: “Oggi è il 15 marzo.” (Today is March 15.)
Then comes the assassination scene.
Next is Mark Antony, standing over Caesar’s body, delivering one of the most devastating monologues in Shakespeare:
“O pardon me, thou bleeding piece of earth,
That I am meek and gentle with these butchers.
Thou art the ruins of the noblest man
That ever livèd in the tide of times.
Woe to the hand that shed this costly blood!
Over thy wounds now do I prophesy
(Which like dumb mouths do open their ruby lips
To beg the voice and utterance of my tongue)
A curse shall light upon the limbs of men;
Domestic fury and fierce civil strife
Shall cumber all the parts of Italy;
Blood and destruction shall be so in use
And dreadful objects so familiar
That mothers shall but smile when they behold
Their infants quartered with the hands of war,
All pity choked with custom of fell deeds;
And Caesar’s spirit, ranging for revenge,
With Ate by his side come hot from hell,
Shall in these confines with a monarch’s voice
Cry “Havoc!” and let slip the dogs of war,
That this foul deed shall smell above the earth
With carrion men groaning for burial.”
And finally, the funeral oration—the moment Antony lights the fire of revolt in the Roman people:
“Hath told you Caesar was ambitious.
If it were so, it was a grievous fault,
And grievously hath Caesar answered it.
(…)
He was my friend, faithful and just to me,
But Brutus says he was ambitious,
And Brutus is an honorable man.
He hath brought many captives home to Rome,
Whose ransoms did the general coffers fill.
Did this in Caesar seem ambitious?
When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept;
Ambition should be made of sterner stuff.
Yet Brutus says he was ambitious,
And Brutus is an honorable man.
You all did see that on the Lupercal
I thrice presented him a kingly crown,
Which he did thrice refuse. Was this ambition?
Yet Brutus says he was ambitious,
And sure he is an honorable man.
I speak not to disprove what Brutus spoke,
But here I am to speak what I do know.
You all did love him once, not without cause.
What cause withholds you, then, to mourn for him?
O judgment, thou art fled to brutish beasts,
And men have lost their reason! Bear with me;
My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar,
And I must pause till it come back to me.”
(I love those last lines. The way grief physically overwhelms Antony, the way he can’t even finish speaking—it gets me every time.)

i don't think anyone can actually excuse how nickel treated suitcase actually
sure, you can say "he was trying to protect his team from balloon who he perceived as EVIL" but also no??? nickel didn't give a flying FUCK about suitcase's feelings. we know this. everyone knows this.
he shouldn't get forgiveness from suitcase nor should they be friends and it pisses me the fuck off whenever i think of it EUGHHH
and this is not at all discouraging people from shipping them but ffs just know how ooc it would be of suity patootie to forgive nickel
but back to the point; nickel needs to apologize to suitcase in s4 because even if he didn't like balloon and MAYBE he did it as a way to "protect his team" (he didn't) that doesn't excuse the fact that what he didn't wasn't okay. like at all. he was bordering on being abusive towards suitcase (and even baseball) me thinkies.
that's it. i used to really like nickel, he was my first ever trans hc but now i think i actually despise him because of how some folks characterize him with suitcase (esp in a shippy way) what did they do to you nickel and suitcase ii...

Sunderland's Royal Jewel Vault (55/∞) ♛
↬ Princess Ruby's Vifte Tiara
Despite once being a prospective queen, Ruby Dewitt Claypoole never amassed a large jewelry collection like her mother and sisters-in-law. Married to the ill-fated George, Prince of Danforth in 1938, Ruby’s brief marriage was largely overshadowed by the Second World War. Despite not entering the war effort until early 1942, Sunderland had entered a period of austerity amid the global economic downturn. The dazzling receptions and state visits that dominated the royal court in previous decades had disappeared. Nonetheless, Ruby’s fiancé gifted her a small tiara in the lead-up to her wedding. A slender, fan-shaped tiara with delicate floral motifs and lozenges of yellow diamond. Ruby wore the tiara as a necklace when she accompanied Queen Anne and Princess Elizabeth to the premier of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The press reacted to Ruby enthusiastically, eliminating palace fears that she wouldn’t be accepted due to her American heritage. However, Ruby stopped visiting the cinema, becoming more invested in international affairs. Ruby and her husband took a keen interest in the war effort and were quickly adopted as symbols against fascism. The prince and princess travelled extensively across North America, venturing as far as New Mexico. In 1941, she broadcast to women and children evacuated to Sunderland from Europe. Ruby also trained as a nurse, a practice she kept secret as Queen Anne, who was traumatized during her stint as a Red Cross nurse during World War One, did not approve. Member of Parliament Julius Sirrey believed Ruby to be more “pro-Liberal” than other members of the family. Queen Matilda-Mary once snarked that Ruby wanted to make a “communist heaven” on earth. “Dear Ruby, so bewildered and bright-eyed,” the declining queen remarked, in German. “I do love her.” George was assassinated by a member of the Sunderlandian National Socialist League in 1943. Ruby herself barely escaped death when the assassin fired a dud bullet at her. George II’s biographer described her as “the royal family’s only war widow”.
Following her husband’s murder, Ruby lived at Woodbine Castle, only venturing outside to inspect the cadets of her regiment. The princess allegedly carried a revolver in her handbag, going as far as to learn how to shoot, but agreed to give up the weapon upon the urging of the defence minister. By the time the princess returned to public duties, it was 1946 and the war had ended. Her first official appearance as Princess Dowager was for the christening of her nephew, Prince Louis of Woodbine. Just twenty-six at the time of her widowhood, it was widely expected that Ruby would remarry, with some courtiers suggesting she marry Prince Michael, George’s youngest brother. However, Ruby remained unmarried and resumed royal duties with an increased enthusiasm in 1947. She again travelled extensively, representing Sunderland as “the King's beloved daughter-in-law.” In 1949, she visited Greece and Turkey. Ruby visited Egypt in 1951, 1963, and 1970, having developed an “obsessive fascination” with Egyptology. By 1954, she was Colonel-in-Chief of half a dozen regiments within the Royal Army, appointments she had been racking up since 1939. When asked if she had plans to start a family in 1958, Ruby replied, “I do have a family.” As a state representative, Ruby began wearing her vifte tiara again. It was appropriate for white-tie events, while also small enough to not overshadow her sister-in-law Katherine, the new Princess of Danforth and later queen consort. She wore the piece to several high-profile royal events. Notably, the Wedding Ball of Louis, Prince of Danforth and Lady Irene Wynn 1968, the Enthronement of Louis V in 1970, Sunderland’s bicentenary celebrations in 1982 and countless state events between 1953 and 1997. When Ruby died in 2006, the tiara returned to the vault, although rumours that it was inherited by one of Ruby’s numerous godchildren persist to this day.

Beauchamp Family Tree (extended version)
technically, a large portion of this version has existed in separate parts through different fics, but I never got around to compiling it in one post. So below is an attempt at such.
Meet the Beauchamps, Aelia's side of the family.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Same tree, 2 different versions. The one on the left feels fitting for a family of jewellers, while the right takes a bit more of a genealogical approach.
Siblings shown left to right, eldest to youngest.
Additional lore and backstory on naming:
In this family, the business is inherited in full. It's never split between heirs. Typically favours the eldest male.
Granatus and Adamus were both named for words that specific gemstones might have their names derived from. For Adamus, this would be diamonds; for Granatus, rubies.
Granatus died of diphtheria in his early 20s, leading his younger brother to inherit.
The store Lavinium is named for Lavinia, both out of love for his wife and an attempt at rebranding the business to show that it was under new management.
Adamus took bold choices in his jewelry designs, this was also reflected in his children's names, neither of which are taken directly from Latin or Greek. Beryl can be traced back to being derived from the Greek word Berūllos. Jules is the French version of the name Julius, and in English, the name sounds like 'jewels'.
Adamus had a favourite child. Despite this and her apparent talent, he would not break from tradition to appoint his daughter as his successor to the family business.
Beryl eventually married into a family of pearl merchants, she started a family whose line continues to tbosas times. She is not close with her younger brother or his descendants.
Jules disliked his father’s naming approach. If anything, he thought it made it hard to network and move up in society due to his name. To correct this, he named his children following the more traditional Capitol preference for Greek or Latin names.
Aurelius and his sisters were the first in their family to attend the Academy.
The current head of Lavinium, Aurelius, has no intention of ever marrying, much less having children. This leaves Lavinium with 2 possible heirs, depending on who you ask.
While Clemensia is Jules' eldest grandchild, Pentheus is his only grandson.

have been wonderfully tagged by @chthonic-cassandra to post the first sentences of my last 10 fics! which span back pretty far to 2022…I don’t post a lot.
The night of the crowning of Pope Innocent XIV, Thomas has a dream about Benitez on the cross.
Deposition, Conclave, one sided and dreamed-about Lawrence/Benitez
At first I think she is a man, the way her shoulders are thick with muscle and her body rugged and strong; salt-crusted, bruised, bleeding, naked.
Princess, the Odyssey, one-sided Nausicaa/fem Odysseus
Glauke wakes sitting upright.
you’ll pay for that, Medea/Glauke
Alcibiades woke with a headache and a mouth drier than salt.
Alcibiades had gotten staggeringly drunk, as expected, and clung to Socrates’ arm desperately as they exited.
stupor, Alcibiades/Socrates for @/kebriones - this fic has two halves that can be read in either order hence the two lines.
It was easy to say Our body, our skin, to be grand about it, to be beyond the flesh, but there is nothing grand about filth and infection and now it is just her body and her skin and her bones hunched frail over a library computer.
Rubies, Measure for Measure, one-sided Duke/Isabella and both sided Isabella/Francesca
I’m not stupid.
Jocasta, Oedipus Rex
Of course Brutus’ weak stomach turns and it is Cassius who accompanies his wife to the hospital.
Curl, NTL Julius Caesar but I don’t even like that production I made it better in my head, Cassius character study with some Cassius/Casca femslash for the people
The three of them feel like a society: doors locked in the pitch of night, windows open but curtains shut.
sea anemones, Julius Caesar, modern au, Brutus/Cassius/Portia
The coat is lifted; she is free.
combat jacket, The Tempest, Ariel character study with some Ariel/Prospero (femslash)
i shall tag @kebriones @blackcatarts @brechtian @hotelsongs @ickeoresteia but I’m sure I’ve missed people, please do this if you want and say I tagged you :)

Happy holidays, @watermelons-dont-grow-on-trees!
From your gifter: I absolutely adored this story so much that I felt like none of my ideas would really do it justice. To be honest, I'm not great at either drawing or poems, but they mean a lot to me. I tried to show how genuine my love for this story is.
I have been in a whump reading slump for a while to be honest, unable to find any new material that I really got into. But this? Reading it felt like I got my present early.
Such phenomenal work. I feel like even this letter isn't explaining how much I liked it. I often pace around the room when I'm really excited and believe me, there was a lot of pacing done this past month when I re-read this over and over.
Julius is such a compelling whumper and the way you write the mind controlling is just so good. His POV is also so much fun. I like the way he thinks about things.
It was an honor to be able to make something for this and I hope you like them. Also, there will probably be more fanart to come.

No Safety:
A knife was in the monster's hand.
He beckoned her, a controlling compulsion.
She couldn't say no, couldn't fight, couldn't escape.
And there was no safety in the moment.
At the monster's command, a painful smile stretched over her face.
Skin pulled too tight over bone, a deception, a ruse.
A way to hide the to the horrors happening in that corner.
The light of the restaurant touches her, pets her, like precious sunlight.
The wood of the table and chairs are like mighty branches cradling her.
But there is no real sun here.
There is no wooden death buried in the monster's heart.
And there was no protection in the moment.
Hand over hand, knife over meat.
And the metal dug inside and tore out its treasures.
Like glittering rubies, it flowed into the cup.
And there was no wholeness in the moment.
And the monster was victorious.

Hey you, you should check out “Abnormal Nights in Gotham”!!
Hey guys, I’m Roy, one of the main producer behind my new DC story podcast called “Abnormal Nights in Gotham.” Honestly, every night is an abnormal night for Gotham but you want to know what’s even more abnormal? Our production team!! No actually please someone save me they have so many eyes and legs I think my production team actually are monsters someone help me-
For people who aren’t so sure of if they’ll like this story, here’s a quick summary for you to get a taste of what we are all about!
“Terf Day” is coming up in Gotham. Every year, on New Years Eve, all the criminals drop their territories and fight for new territories. This keeps peace between them all, and anyone who goes against this system usually end up dead. This year, there seem to be some changes. All the gimmicked criminals are loose, Arkham Asylum is almost fully empty, and alliances are being made between criminals.
28-year-old Dr Ernest Ruby-Blu is a new psychologist at Arkham Asylum, wanting nothing more than to help the criminally insane. But he soon finds out that’s not how things are run in Gotham. Most believe they can’t be cured, and Arkham Asylum has just became another corrupt jail. He is now dead set on a mission to show Gotham that these people can be redeemed and he will go any lengths to prove that.
Meanwhile, a familiar face shows up into town after an absence in the criminal field for over 7 years. Elijah Clystone, aka “Ellie”, isn’t exactly a new criminal. He is known more as an urban legend, a man who knows too much and asks for bloody favors as payment for said information. No one knows exactly what his intentions are, but rumors around town say he has some new plans for Gotham.
Former district attorney Harvey Dent is battling against Two Face, being business partners with Oswald Cobblepot (more known as the Penguin) for more than 3 years by now. Harvey still wants to help Gotham after all these years, as Two Face wanting nothing but a false sense of harmony through violence.
Edward Nygma’s (formerly Edward Nashton and now known as the Riddler) spiral into madness continues and his hatred towards Jervis Tetch (now known as The Mad Hatter) only grows. He doesn’t know how long he can keep his peace with Oswald and Harvey, so he starts looking for new allies with others such as Dr Jonathan Crane (formerly a Arkham Asylum employee now known as the Scarecrow) and Julius Day (now known as Calendar Man).
Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, and Vicky Vale seem to have their own plans for Gotham. A new act called “Feldzeig’s Follies” comes into town at the cabana in Chinatown. Killer Moth is back into town as well? Scarecrow has been absent for a while. Allies are formed, schemes take shape, and betrayals are planned every day. Terf Day is coming up fast, how will Ernest prove to Gotham he can help the infamously unredeemable? Who will survive? Who will fall?
I’ll be making more posts about our crew and the podcast in general, but I hope you all enjoy our little show! In the end, we are just a couple of buddies who are having fun and voicing some characters! (Also if my grammar is wack and this all kinda sucks, I’m really sorry I’m still trying to figure out tumblr and I literally suck at writing things without making 1027202729 grammar mistakes 😭)

So I made a brief post talking about Ruby and Julius Kane being bad parents and uh... here's the essay.
(quick side rant, omg this post is going to be long)
honestly I really should make a series about it, because after really thinking about it, the Kane Siblings have a severe lack of any good parental care in their life. This isn't exactly abnormal in the Riordanverse, but compared to the other series, which have minimal adult characters (that aren’t dead or immortal), the Kane Chronicles have many adult characters and many of the important ones were there to take care of Sadie and Carter.
Yeah that didn't work out.
I mean there's a lot of facets to the Kane siblings relationships with parental figures. From the... interesting and like definitely racist environment Sadie had to deal with while living with her grandparents to Carter's mental state and identity(?) while living with his dad. there is so much I could over analysis, and I'm not a fan of these books to sit around and reread all day so uh, I'm gonna over analysis all of it.
Eventually, but this post will be long even talking about the more aspect I want to talk about with out dragging the rest of the things I find interesting into it soooo.
When first reading the Kane Chronicles, Ruby and Julius actually seem like good parents. they certainly made mistakes but they do love their kids. and even now, I don't doubt they love their kids. It's just an incredibly interesting scenario where the parents, no matter how much they love their kids, are capable of putting the well being of the world first.
And that's the crux of the issue. Ruby and Julius are capable of being excellent parents, but in the situation they were in, they decide it was either the world or Carter and Sadie and they didn't hesitate to choose the world.
In fact, I'm pretty sure Bast said something very similar to this.
Anyway, I'm gonna start with Ruby and Julius's deaths. Personally, I think saying they abandoned Carter and Sadie isn't actually wrong here. I'm definitely not saying someone dying is abandoning the people they love, but it's the way Julius and Ruby both die and how both situations are almost planned.
Now there's not a lot of cannon conformation about Ruby's death, but I, personally, inferenced that Ruby and Julius predicted that it was a very likely scenario that freeing Bast would mean Ruby's death. Or at the very least they definitely knew the dangers of it.
Unlike Julius, Ruby didn't choose to die, but she did put herself in a situation where it was likely. Did she do it with the best intentions? sure. But I find the whole "we had no other choice" thing dumb. Diviner doesn't seem like an incredibly reliable source of information, and unlike the greek pantheon I'm not aware of any being in Egyptian Mythology that specifically controls fate (feel free to prove me wrong here). The idea that they couldn't have done anything else, is kind of absurd.
I mean they convinced Iskander that banning gods was wrong so like? maybe they should have leaned more into that angle.
Also like, they freed Bast, which good for Bast, but doing that sped up the process that allowed Apophis to get free. Ruby had a couple of visions and the two of them spent the rest of they're lives deciding to not just prevent the apocalypse, but to put that burden on their children's shoulders.
Personally, I think Ruby's death was while unfortunate not a surprise to either of them, considering she didn't really seem to try to survive, denying both Isis's and Bast's help. Maybe she wouldn't have been able to handle the power, but like, she could have tried.
Now the bigger Issue I have is Julius's death, cause Ruby's is mostly speculation on my part, I could be wrong, but uh, Julius planned his death. He brought to kids into what was going to be an incredibly dangerous situation. And yes, he did ask them to stay out of the room, but the idea that he used them to help him accomplish this which would leave them without their one living parent while also implicating them of any potential crimes the mortals might decide had happened (which is canon) is horrible.
Arguably, We have no idea weather or not Julius planned on releasing Set, and having Carter and Sadie host Horus and Isis (though those amulet are suspicious). Personally I believe that he had some idea what was going to happen, he's not stupid, but similarly to Ruby's death he decide to take that chance anyway.
Was it for the good of the world? sure. Was it for the good of Sadie and Carter? no, absolutely not.
Even if the situation hadn't thrown Sadie and Carter head first into a deadly quest it would've have severely traumatized them. They could feel guilt for helping their dad commit a crime (especially if they had no idea what was going on) or get himself killed. It doesn't help that Sadie already had abandonment issues due to him.
But more importantly, (not to say his relationship with Sadie isn't important, but his death has a far larger impact on Carter), he left Carter with no one. Besides for maybe Amos, but not only are the two of them estranged but I can't really think that Julius would've thought Amos would take Carter in. And honestly living with the Uncle you barely remember isn't much better than living with stranger, there no one for Carter to go to.
Julius was Carter's single guardian and his only form of stability and familiarity for six years. Do I think he was a good support system of Carter during those six year? not really, but the fact that Julius was willing to throw Carter to the wolves (the government and the foster system) isn't a good sign.
so yeah, the fact that both Julius and Ruby basically went willingly and knowingly to their deaths is kind of abandoning their kids.
I wish I could say (that's a bad way to phrase this) that Julius had planned the quest to defeat Set but I kinda think that would be speculating a bit to much.
Luckily, it's basically canon that they expected Sadie and Carter to save the world so anything I might say about that isn't at all a stretch.
My biggest problem with them though is that neither of them even mentioned the idea of being magicians to Carter or Sadie. And it;'s not because they're to young, because many magicians learn what they are at a very young age.
It could've been to protect them from The House of Life, but considering how violent and uncontrolled they're magic can get with zero knowledge of it it's seems weird that they wouldn't try to teach them how to control it.
(also It was denying Carter and Sadie a large amount of knowledge about their family and even culture to some extent)
Both of the parents fully understood that Sadie and Carter would have to save the world, and yet despite that both of them died without even hinting at Sadie and Carter's abilities.
And there's a big difference between this and what many of the better parents in the Riordanverse did by trying to avoid telling their kids about their heritage. People like Sally and Natalie Chase did it with the intention of trying to protect their kids as long as possible. Sure, it didn't help but they either weren't given a chance to fully explain when the kids were old enough or tried to but it came a bit late (for reasons they couldn't control), Ruby and Julius fully understood that Carter and Sadie would be put in a lot of danger and didn't even inform them of that the gods existed.
Yeah technically most of the Riordanverse parents did that, but there is a big difference in the lives of demigods vs magicians. Telling a demigod about the greek god would also mean having to explain the fact that they being hunted down by monster, which is not something you should tell your seven year old, especially if the real danger is going to come a bit later. Magicians don't actually have a lot of danger associated with them, Carter and Sadie are sort of an exception to that. Like sure, don't tell them about the saving the world part until they're older (Not that Julius even tried) but like tell them about the magic part, my goodness.
Sadie and Carter learned all of this on a really dangerous quest, while trying to save their dad who had planned his death, and in the end they were forced to make a decision between their dad and the world. A decision they didn't really get to make because of the situation and Julius's plan had already made it for them.
Sadie and Carter were shoved into a dangerous world with arguably less help than any other Riordanverse character (excluding the MC series, cause they all died to find out about Norse gods). Like at least the demigods had a camp to go to, Carter and Sadie had a world wide society on their heels, a possessed uncle, a clay person having an identity crisis (which wasn't even over the fact she wasn't real) and a single cat goddess who was forced to ditch like half-way through the book.
Julius legit went "Hey sorry I planned on dying, why don't you almost die to try and save me even though it's useless and than find out me and your mother planned out the worst way to give you the burden of saving the world along with a bunch of responsibilities you don't want *cough* Carter wanting nothing to do with being in charge *cough*.”
I could complain that they also encouraged and helped Sadie and Carter do dangerous stuff (give them a dangerous criminal while knowing he would escape) but unfortunately that’s a common thing parents in fantasy books do.
Like, if they’re kid is already in a dangerous situation and they can’t get them out of it or the kid has to much of a guilt/ hero complex, then better they try to help their kid as much as possible to try to protect them, then forbid them from doing anything which will lead to the kid trying to do everything themselves and getting into more danger.
course the reason Carter and Sadie are in so much danger is because of their parents.
actually Ruby and Julius have a lot of similarities with the gods when it comes to parenting. Cause problems, help your kid a minimal amount after forcing them to fix the problems you caused for you.
Are Julius and Ruby bad people? No. In the end they’re doing what they think is best for the world, which no one can really blame them for that.
they simply faced the love one vs world challenge and had to choose the world.
The thing is being a bad or good person doesn’t usually have anything to do with being by a good or bad parent.
a bad person is capable of being a good parent and a good person is capable of being a bad one.
Trying to save the world does make Ruby and Julius good people, but at the expense of their kids mental, emotional, and physical health. And no matter what the reason, anyone who willingly chooses to put their kids in that type of situation, isn’t a good parent.
anyway, that was really long, so any of you that actually read that entire thing, thx for reading my over analysis.

★ Main Story | Act 13 - Budding Spring | Chapter 30 - Record of Sorrow
Tumblr media
Giorgio: “What? Neither of you brought your beloveds with you?”
Alessandro: “We could say the same about you, Giorgio.”
Bruno: “My parents have been telling me it’s time to start thinking about my future, but it’s not that easy.”
Giorgio: “It’s not easy being an heir. That’s why it’s easier being a second-born son.”
Alessandro: “I guess it’s not easy being a lord’s chamberlain either.”
Bruno: “I hear all sorts of rumors all the time.”
Tumblr media
Giorgio: “Well… I won’t get into the details here.”
Bruno: “Smart.”
Alessandro: “I hear the Guelphs have been growing in numbers and activity lately.”
Giorgio: “The Guelphs, huh? I hope things don’t take too radical of a turn.”
Bruno: “I can understand their side, and they seem to have quite the following in bigger cities.”
Giorgio: “You shouldn’t say that in front of my lord.”
Alessandro: “Regardless of which side wins, Verona’s future is secure. We’re here, after all.”
Bruno: “You’re as confident as ever, Alessandro.”
· • —– ٠ ✤ ٠ —– • ·
Tumblr media
Gildo: “They say they were both bright, talented, and had promising futures. Then one day, the incident happened.”
· • —– ٠ ✤ ٠ —– • ·
Alessandro: “One of the Capulet family’s heirlooms was stolen!?”
Bruno: “It was a necklace that had one large ruby surrounded by small sapphires that was given to our family by a king in the past. There’s no other like it in the world.”
Bruno: “The whole house is in an uproar at the moment. There’s been talk of getting the Montague family to help in finding the culprit.”
Alessandro: “Of course, we’ll help. We’ll find who did it, I swear on it.”
Giorgio: “My lord is making his move as well. We’ll find who did it soon.”
Bruno: “I can only hope…”
Soldier: “Which of you is Alessandro Montague?”
Alessandro: “Huh? That would be me.”
Soldier: “You’re under arrest for stealing from the Capulet family.”
Tumblr media
Alessandro: “Me!? I did no such thing!”
Soldier: “We have a witness. You can’t escape this.”
Giorgio: “Alessandro would never do something like that.”
Bruno: “T-That’s right. There must be some kind of mistake.”
Soldier: “If you try and cover for him, you’ll both be arrested with him as accomplices.”
Bruno: “You--.”
Alessandro: “It’ll be okay. I didn’t do it. I’m sure they’ll realize this is all just a misunderstanding soon.”
Giorgio: “Alessandro…”
· • —– ٠ ✤ ٠ —– • ·
Gildo: “In the end, Alessandro was executed as a major criminal. And not long after, someone assassinated Bruno as well.”
Gildo: “Rumor had it that the Montague family, out of hatred over their loss of Alessandro, decided to take him from the Capulets with their own hands…”
Gildo: “To this day, no one knows what the truth really is.”
Romeo: “That’s…”
Julius: “Have you ever heard that story before?”
Tumblr media
Romeo: “No, never…”
Gildo: “That’s actually not too surprising. In order to avoid conflict between the two families, the matter was strictly kept hushed by the lords, and the truth was kept in the dark.”
Gildo: “However, from what I’ve heard, this only added to their mutual suspicion and hatred of one another, further deepening the feud between the two families.”
Romeo: “Who would’ve thought it was because of something like that…”
Julius: “It’s still too soon to trust what he says.”
Romeo: “But--.”
Gildo: “You two are welcome to believe my story or not. I myself only found out about it while reading my grandfather’s diary after he died.”
Gildo: “When he was alive, he hardly ever talked about his time in Verona.”
Gildo: “That’s why when I heard your names, I actually thought that my grandfather had been accused of some crime and that you were here to get your revenge on him.”
Romeo: “It really was just a coincidence.”
Gildo: “...My grandfather wrote in his diary that he still believed in Alessandro’s innocence.”
Gildo: “...He said he wasn’t the kind of person who would steal.”
Gildo: “And apparently both the Montagues and the Capulets mourned Alessandro’s death.”
Gildo: “He said they never would’ve done something like kill Bruno.”
Gildo: “I think my grandfather always regretted what happened to the two of them. But in the end, he died without ever figuring out the truth.”
Romeo: “...Then let’s find the real culprit.”
Gildo: “What…?”
Julius: “Hey, what are you going on about? We don’t even know if his story is true yet.”
Romeo: “Then let’s figure out the truth about that too.”
Julius: “You act like it’s just that simple…”
Tumblr media
Romeo: “We can do it. As long as it’s you and me, Julius.”
Julius: “Haaah…”
Gildo: “...Please. It has to be fate that I met the two of you like this. If things are just left as they are, my grandfather will never be able to move on.”
Gildo: “They apparently never found the stolen Capulet family treasure. Please find it.”
Romeo: “Leave it to us! Just get some rest and let your leg heal, Gildo!”
Julius: “Hey, Romeo, wait!”
Gildo: “Take my grandfather’s diary with you. It could be of some use to you.”
Romeo: “Thank you!”
*Door closes*
Gildo: “Those two are the future you dreamed of, aren’t they? …Right, Grandpa?”
· • —– ٠ ✤ ٠ —– • ·
Julius: “So what exactly is your plan to find the truth? If we go back to Verona, we’ll be arrested on sight.”
Tumblr media
Romeo: “We’ve still got Father Lawrence, don’t we?”
Julius: “I have been keeping in touch with Father, but I’m not sure we can get him to help with something like this… Ah, but if we asked Mercutio and Tybalt--.”
Romeo: “Yeah! I’m sure they’ll help us!”
· • —– ٠ ✤ ٠ —– • ·
Mercutio: “Achoo.”
Rosaline: “Do you have a cold?”
Tumblr media
Mercutio: “Nah, must just be someone talking about me. Thank you for today. I’ve got some business to attend to at the church. See you.”
· • —– ٠ ✤ ٠ —– • ·
*Door opens*
Mercutio: “Good afternoon.”
Father Lawrence: “We’ve been waiting for you, Mercutio.”
Tybalt: “He called you here too?”
Mercutio: “You too, Tybalt? Does that mean…?”
Father Lawrence: “These are for you two.”
Father Lawrence: “They are letters that arrived from Romeo and Julius.”
Mercutio: “From those two!?”
Tybalt: “I knew it… So they really were in contact with you, Father Lawrence.”
Mercutio: “You knew?”
Tybalt: “No, but knowing Julius, I figured he must’ve been keeping in touch with someone.”
Mercutio: “Huh, Romeo would’ve never thought of doing that.”
Tybalt: “Evidently.”
Mercutio: “Your brother complex is showing.”
Father Lawrence: “Please read them.”
Tybalt: “The cause of the feud between the Montagues and the Capulets…? I’ve never heard about anything like this before.”
Tumblr media
Mercutio: “Me neither.”
Father Lawrence: “This must’ve happened before I came to this city.”
Mercutio: “If this turns out to be true, and they’re found innocent, maybe both families will be able to get along a little better.”
Tybalt: “I think I can help with this.”
Tybalt: “Although the previous lord is dead, I’m sure there are records from that time at his mansion. I’ll start doing some research.”
Mercutio: “I think Rosaline’s father was in and out of that place all the time when the previous lord lived there, so I’ll ask him about it.”
Tybalt: “Speaking of that, you should tell the both of them about her sooner rather than later.”
Mercutio: “Ahh… Well, I’ll tell them about it when this is all sorted out.”
Tybalt: “Don’t come crying to me when things go south.”
Father Lawrence: “Please be careful, you two.”

A3! Main Story: Part 4 - Act 13: Budding Spring - Episode 31: The Story Continues
Tumblr media
Izumi: (With the information he gets from Rosaline’s father, Mercutio seeks out the former lord’s subordinates…)
Elder: “My answer won’t change no matter how many times you come here! I have nothing to say to you. Please leave.”
Mercutio: “In that case, then please read this, at the very least.”
Elder: “What’s that?”
Mercutio: “Giorgio-san’s diary.”
Elder: “Giorgio… It can’t be…”
Mercutio: “Giorgio-san. Who attended to the lord around the same time as you.”
Mercutio: “He left Verona, and later passed away. But he was never able to forget about this incident.”
Elder: “I see… Giorgio, too…”
Elder: “*sigh* I did something unforgivable. I gave a false testimony in order to incriminate Alessandro.”
Elder: “My baby had just been born, and I needed the money.”
Elder: “It may have been an order, but it was a horrible thing… I had never thought it would lead to his execution.”
Mercutio: “Then, Alessandro really was innocent. Who did that order come from–”
Elder: “I absolutely can’t say that. Forgive me…”
-
Izumi: (Meanwhile, Tybalt uses his position as the lord’s chamberlain in order to continue searching through the mansion…)
Soldier: “Handle the items in the treasury carefully, please. Let me know when you’re done.”
Tybalt: “Understood.”
Tybalt:  The medal I was asked to bring… Should be this one.
Tybalt: “Hm? This necklace…”
Tybalt: “A ruby stone and sapphires… There’s no mistaking it. This is the Capulets’ family heirloom. But why is it in the lord’s mansion…?”
-
Julius: “The previous lord’s subordinates accused Alessandro with false testimony, and the Capulets’ family heirloom was found in the lord’s mansion, which means…”
Romeo: “What does it mean?”
Julius: “There’s no doubt about it. It was all planned by the previous lord.”
Julius: “The previous lord had his subordinates steal the family heirloom, frame Alessandro, and then executed him.”
Julius: “Bruno’s assassination may have also been an order from the lord.”
Romeo: “But why would he do that…”
Julius: “... This is just my speculation, but he might not have been very fond of the unity between the Montagues and the Capulets.”
Julius: “That was the time when the feudal lords’ power was weakening.”
Julius: “He probably thought that his position would be threatened if the two families connected and amplified their strength.”
Julius: “According to Tybalt, the previous lord was a coward and flighty.”
Gildo: “... Grandpa may have been aware of the truth, at least vaguely.”
Gildo: “And yet, he probably blamed himself for not being able to bring the truth to light, or stop the incident from happening to begin with.”
Gildo: “That’s why he left Verona by himself, and settled here quietly.”
Romeo: “It’s not Giorgio-san’s fault.”
Julius: “Exactly. The blame lies with the previous lord.”
Romeo: “Let’s put an end to this ourselves. I’m sure Alessandro-san and Bruno-san would like that, too.”
Gildo: “Please do…”
Izumi: (It might be because of how long they’ve known each other and their attachment to their roles, but their acting is very natural.)
Izumi: (The stiffness and discomfort Yuzo-san had criticized them about has completely disappeared. Their roles are coming alive on the stage.)
-
Guard A: “Romeo Montague!?”
Guard B: “Did you come all the way back here for your execution!? Capture him!”
Romeo: “Sorry! I need you to let me through! I’ve got something important to discuss with the lord!”
Julius: “Step aside if you don’t want to be hurt!”
Guard B: “Julius Capulet is also being charged as an accomplice! Don’t let them pass no matter what! Stop them!”
Romeo: “I’ll try to make sure I don’t injure you, but– I’m sorry if it hurts! Haa!”
[Sword clanging]
Guard B: “— He’s fast!?”
Julius: “Hah!”
[Sword clanging]
Guard A: “*groans*”
[Romeo and Julius start running while parrying attacks]
Izumi: (This is the intense sword fight Tsuzuru-kun added later… It’s much more powerful than the scene in the debut performance.)
Izumi: (But you can tell Sakuya-kun can perform it with ease.)
Izumi: (Masumi-kun is also increasing his speed to match Sakuya-kun’s, and they’re completely in sync. They’ve both improved so much.)
-
Lord: “To think my grandfather would do something like this…”
Romeo: “This is the Capulets’ necklace. We also have a witness.”
Julius: “The crime Romeo was accused of also has its roots in this incident. Please, be so generous as to release him of his charges.”
Lord: “... Julius is right.”
Lord: “You are acquitted, Romeo.  Return the Capulets’ necklace back to its rightful place.”
Romeo: “Thank you very much!”
Julius: “That’s great, Romeo.”
Romeo’s father: “To think such a thing would happen…”
Julius’s father: “You mean to tell me we were made for fools this entire time… How could this happen…”
Tybalt: “I believe we can simply build a new relationship from now on.”
Mercutio: “I agree. And with that cleared up, Romeo and Julius can come back home, too.”
Romeo: “Well, for now, we plan on continuing our journey. Right, Julius?”
Julius: “Right.”
Tybalt: “Don’t you think you’ve traveled enough? You can come back home now.”
Romeo: “This and that are different.”
Tybalt: “You be quiet, Romeo.”
Julius: “This incident made me realize the importance of going out into the world and expanding my knowledge. I have to see more of this world.”
Tybalt: “Julius…”
Mercutio: “You should return home sometimes. Everyone’s waiting for you.”
Romeo: “Yeah. Thank you.”
Father Lawrence: “The bond between the two of you has cleared away the darkness caused by these long-held regrets.”
Julius: “Thank you so much, for always watching over us.”
Father Lawrence: “I look forward to your letters. May your future journeys be blessed.”
Romeo: “Thank you very much!”
Rosaline: “I’m so glad.”
Mercutio: “It’s all thanks to you and your father.”
Romeo: “Eh…”
Julius: “Rosaline…?”
Mercutio: “Ah… Um…”
Romeo: “Mercutio?”
Julius: “It can’t be…”
Tybalt: “That’s why I told you, you should tell them as soon as possible.”
Mercutio: “I did think of telling them, but, look, so much happened, and there’s that thing we call timing–”
Romeo: “That’s what’s been going on, Mercutio!?”
Julius: “This is the kind of guy they mean when they talk about useless friends.”
Mercutio: “W-Wait, you two! There are a lot of reasons behind this!”
Mercutio: “Rosaline’s previous lover was an awful guy, and I just happened to save her by chance– And anyway, she’d already rejected the two of you–”
Romeo: “Don’t rub salt in our wounds!”
Julius: “No delicacy whatsoever. You should choose your friends better, Romeo.”
Mercutio: “Please listen to my side of the story, Romeo, Julius!”
Tybalt: “Haha.”
-
Gildo: “... Grandpa, I wonder if you’ve finally reunited with Alessandro and Bruno.”
-
Yuzo: (Seems the Newborn Spring Troupe’s style of acting has finally returned.)
Yuzo: (Reminds me of when I saw their debut performance, and thought maybe…)
Yuzo: (That dream of seeing MANKAI Theater’s seats filled and booming with applause once again could come true.)
Yuzo: (You lot should continue moving forward in your own way. I also have to make sure I don’t lose to you.)
-
[applause]
Sakuya: Thank you very much!
Masumi: Thank you very much.
Citron: Thaaank yooouu!
Chikage: Since it’s the first day, how about the leader gives us a greeting for the New Fleur Award?
Sakuya: Huh!? W-What should I say, I haven’t thought of anything.
Itaru: There are things that can only be understood when they’re said directly by the actors who are on top of the stage.
Sakuya: I see… That’s true.
Sakuya: — Thank you very much for coming to the first day performance of “Romeo and Julius ~Rosso e Blu~”!
Sakuya: It’s been a year since we were awarded the Fleur Special Award, and since then a new era has started.
Sakuya: MANKAI Company will continue working in tandem and aim for the Fleur Award!
Sakuya: We will continue working hard, without ever forgetting the moment we stood on stage together during our first performance of “Romeo and Julius”!
Sakuya: Please continue supporting us. And once again, thank you very much for coming!
Tsuzuru: Thank you very much!
Chikage: Thank you very much.
Itaru: See you.
Towa: — —
Towa: (Amazing. The Spring Troupe sparkles on stage even more than they did when I simply met and talked with them.)
Towa: (My heart feels like it’s about to burst. I want to sparkle the way they do…)
Towa: (It might’ve been a trial run, but I stood on that same stage during the workshop…)
Towa: …

A Big Question to @mambamorananewaccount .
What do you think would happen if Cartoon Cat and Julius The Cartoon Cat ever met?
What do you think would happen?...
Would it be a big all cat fight or they just look at one other Annoyed?
Also: ruby would be in this because I think...Julius, being himself starts to follow Her around and follows her to the toon woods/Toon Forest.
And this would be where Ruby met Mamba again and Julius just be confused at first but curious about what going on.
And maybe Julius would probably showed himself to ruby again and meeting Mamba.
And out of nowhere that where cartoon Cat also showed himself too.
And maybe Julius and cartoon Cat would be like: "huh?? Who the fuck are you???" To one other.
I just imagine ruby being like: "oh...shit....why did Julius had to follow me here and why is cartoon cat here too?....🤦‍♀️"
The rest is up to you.
But this is what I think would be how Julius would meet mamba and cartoon Cat....

Note
One Question: do you think that Ruby's and Julius's relationship at first would be like Tom and Jerry's Relationship? :^
I just want to know...that is all...😅
I think it would start off with Julius wanting to murder her before he gets bored of her.
