I don't like reactive headcanons. "Other fans write Character as X, so I will write him as even more Y!" I get the impulse behind it, especially when X feels very hostile to the nature of the character, but it still feels flat and shallow to me. Which means that there comes a point in the "Joe is a sweet sweet ball of sunshine" characterization where I nope out. Yusuf al Kaysani will slit a man's throat and wipe his sword off on the dying man's clothes. He has a temper. He has chosen a life of violence. He is also very warm and loving, and an artist, and a confused red panda when suddenly awakened, and an incurable romantic, and he makes corny jokes to defuse tension. I love him, and I love all of him, including the parts that aren't soft. I love that he's a complex character.

(None of this is meant to throw shade at the Soft Joe fans. Like I said, I get where that's coming from, and I prefer that approach to the one they're responding to. But it's not for me.)

I've seen some people put together some headcanons for Vickie and thought I'd share some of mine!! I love her so much Vickie my beloved blorbo...

First and foremost: truckgirl Vickie truckgirl Vickie truckgirl Vickie!!!!!! She drives a burgundy 1977 GMC Sierra she fixed with her dad over summer of '84, and she loves it. It's her baby. She has probably seriously considered becoming a mechanic as a career, and she loooves getting her hands dirty.

Has definitely named her truck. Can do that cool trick on flat roads where, if you shift gears smoothly, the car will keep rolling without gas! She uses this to woo Robin!! I know it in my heart!!!

I saw a post ages ago about drag racing in Hawkins because there's nothing else to do in bumfuck nowhere and tbh I see Vickie doing that too. Maybe her and Steve have bonded over driving fast or what have you?

She can do french and Dutch braids on herself, but gets a bit mixed up when trying to do others!

Her clothing aesthetic is sort of all over the place but she loves patterns. Classic patterns like houndstooth and paisley or more modern colour block or squiggly patterns. She probably mismatches patterns but colour coordinates.

I also think she likes long heavy skirts in winter, and sundresses in summer. Jeans and trousers are good but don't have the same patterns. Probably owns a few coveralls for working on cars. I see her rocking an overall look too. Anyways point is she's cute cute cute!

Idk if I want her to have siblings or not maybe she's either an eldest or the family baby?

Listen...I would probably say this even if Amybeth wasn't in AWaE...but also. Vickie loves Anne of Green Gables. The sense of wonder and delight in everyday things really speaks to her. She's a simple small town girl, and sometimes it's complicated but sometimes it really isn't.

She knows she likes girls, but it's easier to only like boys. So even though she's had crushes on girls before she hasn't really done anything about them until she got a crush on and started getting vibes from Robin!

She thinks Robin is funny and charming. Like Robin will blurt out some sassy remark and Vickie have to stifle a giggle. Robin says goodnight to her trumpet as she puts it away and Vickie is like 😍😍

Lots of people whisper about Robin and Steve being weirdos but Vickie thinks they're cute! Yeah maybe they're incomprehensible in terms of whatever their deal is, but Vickie is entranced by this odd behaviour and wishes to know more. When stobin have silent conversations solely through eye contact and eyebrow movement at bizarre times Vickie's first thought is not "what is wrong with these freaks?" (derogatory) it is "what is wrong with these freaks?" (wants to put them in a jar)

animal: genuinely ive never kin assigned him any animal hes just always been a teen boy to me but i said hare bc ... i recently saw bunny!fugo fanart but he is not a cute rabbit he is something a little more square than that. and a hare seemed right. i think they're also a bit shy lol which is also very fugo to me, actually quite timid

Torao is the kind of character where you're like "literally why is he in the main cast when everyone else is a banger" and then you realize that his arc is just 4-5/6ths of the way into the story and you go Oh. Oh. I get it now. That's him. That said, I want to blast him with a fire hose.

Haruka Isumi: (IDOLiSH7)

Haruka was my discord pfp for several months and I think that says a lot already. I love him so much, he's like. so bulliable and he should be bullied. Dramatic ass teenager baby that dresses like an e-boy. I love him so much and every time he bleps (:P) in official art I want to Die. Prime blorbo material.

Nagi Rokuya: (IDOLiSH7)

I'll admit outright that, as someone who had Ouran High School Host Club change my brain chemistry forever when I was a child, and with i7 having a main character named Tamaki, I CONSTANTLY called Nagi "Tamaki" during the first season just because he was the silly blond weeb guy!! I was like holy shit there's two of them. And then I got to parts 3 and 4 and I was like Oh Holy Shit they're even more similar than I thought :'). Nagi is a BELOVED character of mine but it took a moment for me to grow into loving his character. I wish I saw more fan content of him because he fucking rocks, but he's also just on a different plane from a lot of the more popular characters and I get it. I love how everyone respects him as they should though. My king forever and ever.

Haruhi Fujioka: (Ouran High School Host Club)

SPEAKING OF OURAN HIGH SCHOOL HOST CLUB. Haruhi's arc in the anime and manga is a little different, and obviously the anime wasn't supposed to end where it did, but with the changes the director and writers made, I truly believe that it would be impossible for the animeverse to end the same way the mangaverse did. Anyways Haruhi is a really funny character because she's supposed to be the straightman in a lot of the jokes, but she's just as dramatic and silly as everyone else. And it's great. 10/10 protagonist, every time I think of her I think of that tumblr post about her with the big brown eyes and I go Yeah. yeah.

Jason Todd: (DC Comics; Batman)

Jason was NOT my favorite DC character or even Robin for a long, long time. I only really got into his character when I started working on my fic, Beyond Imagination, and had to start analyzing what a younger Jason was like and how he would interact with the world in a modern day and age. All of the Batman characters get flanderized and mischaracterized by fanon and canon a lot, so it's hard to figure out what was generally agreed upon as canon unless you read yourself, but Jason's got a strong story and personality that really shined with his resurrection. I'd say it's one of the best uses of reviving a character thought to be dead, and every time I think about his death and like. both the in-universe and real life events that lead up to it, I get emotional. Great character that makes me deeply ill to think of from a meta-perspective.

Maya Amano: (Persona 2 Innocent Sin & Persona 2 Eternal Punishment)

Okay so. You may have noticed I tagged two Persona games for her and that's because, spoilers for Persona 2, the first Persona 2 (Innocent Sin) is a timeline that fails. The game with you resetting the timeline because you fucked up that badly, and the second Persona 2 (Eternal Punishment) is your second shot and doing things over. HOWEVER. Maya changes with the timelines because she was doomed to die with how things were set up in Innocent Sin, and fixing that to give the timeline a shot in Eternal Punishment changes her as a character. This bingo is more about Innocent Sin Maya, who is a 23 year old girlfailure reporter that makes me Deeply Deeply Ill. Hornet (for the character ask thing)

oooh hornet my beloved <3 i'll do this with my au hornet in mind, though i suppose most of it still applies to how i see her in general

Sexuality Headcanon: lebanese. in all seriousness, she's definitely not straight in my eyes. i see her as a lesbian, although with how angsty she is and how she pushes away the idea of close relationships out of fear of losing them, it would be easy to assume that she's not interested in anyone

Gender Headcanon: she's canonically female, but i personally see her as quite gender non-conforming. she holds no attachment to gender, though at times she seems to reject femininity (for example, she would react negatively to others calling her old cloak "a dress", which is why in my au design she has a much more gender neutral outfit). i wouldn't go as far as to say she's enby though, just that she prefers to present herself in a more neutral way. i like to think that this could be one of the results of pk raising her on his own. throughout her childhood, she would mostly look up to him and grimm, whenever he visited the palace (i love the idea of baby hornet seeing him as a role model). that, and she hated all the royal dresses that the white lady forced her to wear, so that certainly had an impact on how her dressing preferences now hahah

A ship I have with said character: at this moment? none. lacenet seems tempting, but i want to wait for silksong to release first. there is a very good possibility that they continue their rivalry with no possibility of anything else, but if by any chance they're on good terms by the time the game ends? yeah i'd be very open to exploring their relationship further, since i do think there's good chemistry there

A BROTP I have with said character: ah, my hornet is a bit of a shadow the hedgehog kin and doesn't really have many friends. she's afraid of becoming close with anyone since she fears that they'll leave her or die, so it's difficult for her to open up to anyone. as of now, i actually see grimm as the closest thing to a best friend. now, before you ask "but doesn't she find him annoying?": she does. he can really get on her nerves, but it's all banter. whenever he's not teasing her, he can be incredibly fun to talk to if you share interests, and i love the idea of both of them being fans of reading. that, and there's still some attachment she holds for him from her childhood. so their relationship is a mix between "good friends that like to annoy each other" and "dad and daughter but they won't admit it". outside of that? i could see her becoming friends with bretta, mostly because holly spends a lot of time with her, so hornet tends to hang out with them. though i'm very tempted to have bretta develop a crush on her, so that could be very interesting. other than her, maybe myla? that could be a fun friendship, if hornet decided to cheer up and stop being so moody, that is

A NOTP I have with said character: for reasons stated above, and because i see them as having a dad and daughter kind of relationship: hornet x grimm. grimmnet or whatever that ship is called. it's always had weird vibes to me so i was never a fan, but now i actively avoid it as it makes me uncomfortable

SUKKI!!! One of the few canon ships that I love. They're so sweet together, and Sokka deserves someone who can beat him up and make him look good in drag.

heyyyy, you are very courageous to activate this topic since I've been currently busy with the scarvi dlc, but my all time fave's

NOIVERN

I don't even remember when I used it for the first time and how I fell so in love with it (it definitely wasn't the anime tho, I barely watched it). I just know I saw this funny bat and I fell in love.

Usually when thinking about Noivern I think about my Noivern oc Wydra, who's just a little chaotic berry thief of a threat. Very silly, bery casual. but i did a flying-type only run of pokemon Y not so long ago and Cloudburst the noivern I used there was also a fun one to play with (alongside Acerbus my beloved (mega)aerodactyl)

Noivern might not be on the same level as many other dragon-flying types, but it's the best one in my heard, and with a very good speed, decent special attack and a powerful boomburts, plus stabs, and fire coverage, it does hit quite well. And thus I often want to include one in my playthroughs of games, but I try to moderate it since I want to diversify the pokemon I use (that's the reason I did the flying run in Y; perfect excuse to have both Noivern AND aerodactyl and other pokemon in my team).

A few of my other all-time favs are the delphox and primarina line (I do have a weakness for the furbaits, sorry not sorry). Swampert was also my first pokemon and i'll always carry some special fondness for it.

alolan ninetales and togekiss also have a special place in my heart, for oc and playthrough reasons. Togekiss is very fun to use on an adventure team and I have one old alolan ninetales oc (I will probably never talk about them here because it's not something i'm too proud of, but maybe if I revamp them fully?). Also a shiny Eevee I randomly got in pokemon legends arceus is The Shiny Eevee for me. It's level 100, but I refuse to evolve it. it'll be my wonderful little baby eevee forever <3. ALSO Giratina. I shiny hunted one in ultra sun and this little baby is my beloved

Paldea right now is also making me have a lot of fun with the new pokemon.

I LOVE Meowscarada, Glimmora, Chi-Yu and Walking Wake. these four are setpieces of my ultimate team in scarlet. they're my little blorbo's. I liked him with Kelly lol. Never thought they should be endgame or that she was someone he could fall in love with but she seemed exactly like the easy stress-free relationship he needed, at least at first. (he definitely never should've let it get that serious though knowing how he felt for Amy what were you doing my boy lol) Also, their entire relationship was worth it for the scene where she "stabs" Jonah, it's truly one of my favorite scenes, it's so funny

Jonah/Amy duh. They're just. I don't even know how to put it into words. But I think they're really underrated amongst the sitcom will-they/won't-they canon. And I think it's cause there's a realness and messiness to them that a lot of other sitcom couples don't really have. There's nothing fairytale or meant-to-be about Jonah/Amy which I think is why they're not as popular but it is why I love them and keep coming back to them. I really like that grit they have.

(They're so interesting! But maybe you have trouble pinning them down, or keep getting distracted by another blorbo...) - Olwë. As I always refer to Elu and Elmo as my fictional brothers, I would naturally do so with Olwë as well. Plus he IS an extremely impressive character, I was always so awed by his reaction to Fëanor's request, when he basically tells him 'I love you, mate, but you're just way out of order at the moment. Calm down, and all's good.'. Plus he's been through so much and still is kind and forgiving and a beloved king to his people. I WILL write my piece about him one day. 🍌 In your opinion, what's the funniest joke/reference/pun you've made in a fic? - uuuhhhh, that's a tough one, and I'm afraid also one I'll fail to answer. My English, while largely sufficient to write my stories, is not quite good enough for intentional puns. I think the funniest scene I've ever written was still this chapter of 'And a high doom was before him'. Baby Lúthien's obsession with braiding her parents' hair at the most inconvenient times is still something I laugh about myself. (And I'm sure once I've written this post, all the joke-worthy scenes come sneaking into my mind. ah well)

Seattle Kraken, because of course! They're my beloved blorbos, my home team, the reason I am a hockey fan at all. They had a terrible first season but my love has never wavered.

Colorado Avalanche, because I bandwagoned very hard last playoffs and also developed a feral sort of love for Nate, Cale, and EJ. Also Pavel Francouz is very, very handsome.

Toronto Maple Leafs, for two reasons. One is Steve Dangle, and the other is that last year's trade deadline really hurt (everyone had been saying we would lose Gio all year, and I knew it was going to happen, but it still hurt, and what helped me get through it was that first Steve Dangle reaction to Gio being traded to the Leafs), and I still love Gio. And now, here I am, saddled with this curse. Oh, well. I was raised a Cubs fan. I can handle it.

Ottawa Senators for the vibes, because they have Claude Giroux, and because they had a really spectacular glow up in the 2022 off-season, thanks to the Melynk sisters! And also because they picked up Magnus Hellberg and I love him.

Boston Bruins, because of the goalie hugs, but we are reaching the point in the list where I mostly love teams for their goalies. :D And since Boston has two wonderful goalies and they support and love each other and are clearly soulmates, I will round out the list with them!
